(TW) So I was thinking about the skyscraper speech...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It makes me think of a lot of scenes but if one in particular comes to mind, it's definitely the cage scene, where Ragyo is shown molesting Satsuki on screen to get a rise out of her as Satsuki is defenseless to do anything about it since she's in chains and stripped of her kamui, completely unable to fight back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The meaning behind a "skyscraper in the mind" is implicant of learning to detach oneself even through suffering.
Tumblr media
Even as Ragyo is touching and molesting her, Satsuki refuses to give her the reaction she wants. She's keeping her skyscraper in tact, effectively looking down on Ragyo from the top of the castle.
This after credit scene just perfectly portrays "A skyscraper built in the mind will never crumble.":
Tumblr media
Because even if she's been humiliated, violated, and technically beat, her will is still in tact. Sadly this very much implies that Ragyo was probably doing this crap to her since she was five, but she's long since learned to stand above it. This scene, this Character, this show... is just phenomenal. Satsuki is a person many can relate to, and she's an inspiration, she's strong and learned to rise up above and against her circumstances. She endured so much suffering and abuse under her mother and she came out stronger than ever as a person despite it.
She may not have had the endurance to the life fibers in the same way like Ryuko and Ragyo had, but she more than made up for that by pushing herself twice as hard even to the point of severe exhaustion and it's so inspirational. Most people in Satsuki's position would have snapped, but she didn't. She remained strong and it's something I feel many abuse victims can be especially drawn to, rising up against ones oppressor and it's so moving.
Edit: Another thing that was brought to my attention is the "a castle that blows away" could partly be referring to her innocence. She could have been violated already, but it just meant she had to harden her will and that way by looking down on Ragyo from the top of the sand castle she could never truly be hurt by her again.

So, I’m currently in the middle of bingeing Kill la Kill, and I think the most satisfying thing I’ve ever seen in a fictional work--more than Voldemort’s defeat or Rebecca Bunch accepting her mental illness or Carol Peletier blowing up Terminus or even Joffrey’s death--is when Satsuki stabs her mother in the back and screams that she’s been against her the whole time.

My poster for my parody spoof of Kill la Kill
Synopsis: The story and characters you know and love gets a character-recasting makeover and comes to life in a whole new way in an epic, thrilling remake/character-recasting adaptation of Studio Trigger's original hit anime from 2013 of the same name that shook the streets of Honno City, Kill la Kill. Experience and relive the saga of Ryuko Matoi (Go Go Tamago/Lady (Devil May Cry)), a fierce, vagrant woman who crosses paths with the undisputed, iron-willed Student Council president and ruler of Honnoji Academy, Satsuki Kiryuin (Fa Mulan). While transferring to the academy and searching for the murderer with the Scissor Blade who killed her father, Ryuko demands answers from Satsuki, but she is chased away by the students equipped with Goku Uniforms that are infused with mysterious alien-like matrial called Life Fibers. Just when Ryuko was at her lowest and at wit's end, she awakens a living, sentient uniform called a Kamui that may be the key to humanity's future. Sensing Ryuko's anger toward everything, the wisecracking, larger-than-life Kamui bonded with her and the two became the most unexpected, lethal roadblock Honnoji Academy has ever seen (Like Venom). But just as Ryuko and the Kamui she named Senketsu (Bruno (Marvel's Future Avengers)) form an unlikely, symbiotic bond, Satsuki has also awaken and bonded with another Kamui of her own as well -- Junketsu (Namaari (Raya and the Last Dragon)).
Soon, Ryuko and Senketsu are dragged into an epic battle for Honnoji Academy and the fate of mankind that is ravaged with rebellion, action, drama and heart, ultimately resulting in Ryuko and Satsuki's rivalry, the shocking truth about their connected past, and the war against the Life Fibers. With the help of their friends and allies, including the energetic, hyperactive Mako Mankanshoku (Sofia the First) and her family (Wreck-It Ralph, Adult Wendy Darling, Spot/Timothy Templeton, Dante (Coco)); the Elite Four of Honnoji Academy's Student Council (Joshua Sumter, Aladdin, Milo Thatch, Vanellope Von Schweetz/Ashley Spinelli); and the anti-Life Fiber organization Nudist Beach led by undercover homeroom teacher Aikuro Mikisugi (Flynn Rider), Ryuko and Satsuki - with both their bonded Kamuis - will have to figure out how to put aside their differences...and reunite as long-lost sisterly siblings to stop and foil the plot of the sinister CEO of REVOCS and director of Honnoji Academy -- their birth mother Ragyo Kiryuin (Eris (Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas)).
The special cast of characters includes...Gogo Tomago (Big Hero 6) with Lady (Devil May Cry) as Ryūko Matoi, Fa Mulan (Mulan) as Satsuki Kiryūin, Sofia the First (Sofia the First) as Mako Mankanshouku, Bruno from Marvel's Future Avengers reincarnated as Kamui Senketsu, Namaari (Raya and the Last Dragon) as Junketsu, Joshua Sumter himself (ME!) as Ira Gamagōri, Aladdin (Aladdin) as Uzu Sanageyama, Milo Thatch (Atlantis: The Lost Empire) as Hōka Inumuta, Vanellope Von Schweetz (Wreck-It Ralph) with Ashley Spinelli (Recess) as Nonon Jakuzure, Hiro Hamada (Big Hero 6) as Shirō Iori, Wreck-It Ralph (Wreck-It Ralph) as Barazō Mankanshoku, Adult Wendy Darling (Return to Neverland) as Sukuyo Mankanshoku, Spot (The Good Dinosaur) with Timothy Templeton (Boss Baby) as Matarō Mankanshoku, Dante (Coco) as Guts, Mankanshoku family's pet pug; Flynn Rider (Tangled) as Aikurō Mikisugi, Will Turner (Pirates of the Caribbean) with Jann Lee (Dead or Alive) as Tsumugu Kinagase, Grimsby (The Little Mermaid) with Alfred Pennyworth (Batman) as Mitsuzō Soroi, Eris (Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas) as Ragyō Kiryūin, Larxene (Kingdom Hearts series) as Nui Harime and Nebula (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Rei Hōōmaru
Based on "KILL la KILL" screenplay by Kazuki Nakashima

Thoughts: Brand New Animal
Just finished BNA: Brand New Animal.  It’s now my second favorite in the Trigger catalogue.  It’s no Kill la Kill, but it still reminds me of it in a lot of parts: the zaniness, the worldbuilding, and the way they explore themes like tolerance in a sweet, crunchy cartoony shell that only Trigger can animate.
My favorite episode (aside from the last few) was the one with the dolphin Beastman influencer.  Her interaction with the humans was perfect.  That praise and understanding followed by deadly and controlling ignorance captures the show’s portrayal of the way humans treat those who are different from us in a far more nuanced and in my opinion, important way than any other episode.  It’s one thing to show the anti-Beastman faction literally hunting Beastmen, but it’s also important to show how that sentiment of dominance grows from behind a veneer of generosity and tolerance.  It’s not even just that the partygoers were trying to help her; they were showing dominance over her by deciding what she wanted.  People like that may not even understand their own motivations.
The real reason I’m posting about this, of course, is the infamous Trigger twist.  The point in many Trigger shows where they change what the show is about, often revealing that it was aliens all along.  I was waiting for it.  At first, I thought the Nirvasil Syndrome reveal was the big twist.  If that was it, I thought it worked really well.  But no; there was honestly a really sudden and unfortuate Trigger twist in the last episode.  At least it wasn’t aliens though.  Spoilers under the cut, but honestly I felt it was brief enough that it didn’t ruin the finale.  It’s like they knew that it was a risk, so they really rushed through it.  Everything else played out like it should, and everybody got their resolutions, so I still really like the ending.
It’s not a bad thing that Alan was a purebred Beastman all along, it’s just that as usual, Trigger neglected to build up to it properly in favor of making what should have been a sizable portion of the story into a twist ending.  It comes unfortunately close to the VIRM reveal in Darling in the Franxx.
At first my reaction was that they ruined it.  While Alan seemed bland at first, they actually built him up to be a pretty good old-school anti-villain who insists on fixing something he doesn’t understand.  The fact that he just tells Michiru the truth several times does a lot to develop this version of him; and when it turns out he was manipulating everyone, that just makes him even better.  At one point in the finale, his calmness and derision towards Michiru even reminds me of Ragyo.
That said, the show tried to have its cake and eat it too.  As the show was, with only a little more than ten episodes, it would have been perfect without Alan’s big reveal.  The thing is, Alan still would have worked as a purebred Beastman if the show had more episodes.  They could have Alan embody both human prejudice and then redefine that as pureblood prejudice later.  This part of the storyline even makes Shiro’s powers make more sense.  The rest of the story doesn’t really explain how the other Beastmen pooled their energy together and gave it to Shiro.  But Alan’s reveal does establish that Beastmen can get more powerful by gathering the blood of other Beastmen.
All in all, Alan’s reveal wasn’t terrible.  It could make for a really good arc, and it even gives the show sequel potential   It was just executed really badly, which shows that despite the excellent quality, the show had to have been rushed at some point in the process, crunching the last storyline into a few minutes.  This is a bad habit for Trigger lately that shows up in Darling in the Franxx and SSSS Gridman.  The show never talked about Beastmen interbreeding with humans before Alan mentioned it.  And it doesn’t even make sense with what we know.  If Michiru’s human-Beastman DNA cures Nirvasil Syndrome, then why would the Beastmen that interbred with humans solely get the syndrome?  Shouldn’t they be MORE immune to Nirvasil Syndrome?
Not only that, but only a few minutes after Alan claims this, it’s proven wrong when he gets Nirvsil Sydrome, rendering the whole topic moot.  I feel like if this was extended into its own storyline, this would be a big reveal, that he was lying, and purebreed Beastmen are actually the ones that get the syndrome more, and the interbreeding was actually the way to go - just like it would be in reality, where mutts are stronger against sickness.
I also wanted the Sylvasta drones to finish Alan off after he came down with Nirvasil Syndrome, since they were only aiming at Beastmen who went out of control.  It would have been a fitting way to end his arc, by taking away his purebreed status.  The story also wouldn’t have changed; Shiro would have still spared his life and Alan would have still survived, he would just have gotten his comeuppance.  But maybe they’re leaving him alive just in case they get the chance to do a proper sequel.
Other notes:
Boris revealing how creepy he really is.  It was definitely satisfying to see Nazuna punch him into next week and declare her name  And um - how is he a gorgon/bundle of snakes?  I assumed Michiru and Nazuna were only mythical creatures because they were special - what’s Boris’ deal?  Is he also a Beastman hybrid?
Anima City really respects its seedy underbelly.  All the underprivilaged and the “bad guys” came out to help save the city in the end.
They were rushing through dialogue and exposition WAY too fast in the finale.  The Mayor literally analyzed Michiru’s blood in a split second and concluded it really was a cure.  This was barely better than Alan’s big exposition dump about “the truth” later in the episode.  He was talking as fast as one of those medicine commercials listing the side effects for their medicine.
Michiru manifested Shiro’s powers!  That was a surprise.  A fitting conclusion to her escalating ability to morph, but again it doesn’t make much sense with the lore.  I mean, wouldn’t this show Alan that Beastman DNA only gets more powerful when mixed with humans?

This isn’t something I should have edited together.
But here it is: all the messages I’ve received in the last month or so that are mean spirited and/or really hurt me (no matter how well intentioned they may have been).
After all my years of feeling invisible and like no one cares, I think I’m finally getting somewhere. I’m not just being insulted behind my back anymore.
Tumblr media
A Tweet: sometimes following the klk tag is good and nice and sometimes you get an essay on why ryuko and senketsu are in love
by the same blog, who is upset that this is not a popular ship
I’m more worth it than ever to be insulted straight to my face.
Transcript under the cut.
EDIT: I’ve explained my reasons for posting this collage here.
“You realize some of us don’t have Tumblr accounts, we’re coming over from what we heard in the Discord, right? Surprised the self-professed shirtfucker lore god didn’t think of that. Don’t trip over your massive brain since you ‘write stuff, at times’.”
“Ragyo’s bath scene was anti-fanservice. She’s disgusting, but it’s meant to turn the gross ass men off from her that would normally be pulled into that. As much as Ryuko and Satsuki are independent, strong lesbian women, so is Ragyo. She’s completely on the wrong side, morally, but geez Goop. Get it together with your points on her. I get that she’s not Senketsu but c’mon. Disappointed because I expected different.”
“senketsu raped ryuko in their first scene together. shipping them is gross.”
“If you have to outline the technical definition of ‘rape’ as it applies to a ship, it’s a bad ship. I thought you were better than this, Goop :(”
“on the fence about whether you have any fucking brain cells at all at this point”
“goops, you’re starting to stoop to the level of those that are bugging you. your last reply came off as super patronizing. i love you dude, but seeing you become as big headed as the haters is disappointing. get well soon.”
“’to quote steven universe’“
“no wonder your headcanons are so unpopular. This whole blog is a bad take
All of the women (except Sukuyo) are gay coded in that show, including the villains. It’s completely unrealistic to except them to cater to your clothesexual Kindergarten bullshit. You watched a different show than the rest of us.”
“You’re so butthurt about this Ragyou thing. Get over yourself. So what, your takes on her are shit. Talk about what you know you can write about successfully then.”
“Senketsu was made using pieces of Ryuko’s DNA. Shipping them borders on incest, it’s pretty fucked.”
“Some of us lesbians want diversity in our representation. We don’t want them all to be perfect, and we accept that we can have representation that isn’t moral just like every other sexuality. You can’t speak for everyone, especially as a non-lesbian, and declare Ragyo unfit for being a gay character. Go back to talking about the talking shirt.
LET US HAVE RAGYO WHAT THE FUCK
your latest take really hurts me, goop. i started following you awhile ago because i love kill la kill. but as a lesbian and someone that loves ragyo (while not excusing her) your claim that she is ‘too evil’ to be representation for me and my people really turns me off of this blog.
Should’ve stuck with what you know. You obviously aren’t aware of the symbolism behind Ragyo and anything about her beyond her calling Senketsu ugly.”
“Goop, giving a Tumblr link on the topic of gene splicing is the equivalent of getting your degree from the back of a cereal box. I have to agree with the other anons on Senketsu/Ryuko.”
“I can assure you no one thinks you’re a man lmfao”
“That feel when senketsu will still inevitably die at the end of the series and ryuko moves on like she’s intended to, because girls can’t wear their sailor uniforms forever. And then she goes on a date with mako.”
“we don’t give a shit if you think ryumako is intended because it’s clear you and your writing are incredibly biased and angled to support your own ship. nice try.”
“usually i agree with many of your takes, but your recent ragyo one is Not That Good, goop”
Sent on October 17th, 2019, at 9:45:45 am: “You could play cringe bingo with this blog, omg. Tag yourself, I’m marginalized Senketsu”
Sent on September 22nd, 2019 at 6:12:00 am: “She shouts his name because she’s talking to him.”
Sent on September 27th, 2019, at 8:31:37 am: “🚂[train emoji] - the sexual assault theme when senketsu forces himself upon ryuko when they first meet. inb4 you come up with some headass explanation as to why it isn’t a sexual assault-geared scene lmfao”
Sent on September 21st, 2019, at 6:47:06 pm: “SENKETSU BEING OPPRESSED AND MARGINALIZED? how many people actually know he exists? not enough for him to be oppressed. comparing this to what the anons were talking about before, idk what you think oppression is.”
Sent on September 23rd, 2019, at 5:47:32 pm: “yeah right, and you have a degree in journalism and creative writing. fat chance on tumblr. at least find something published with actual citations if you want to use it as gospel. but then again, sloppy writing through some heavy ass shipper goggles, what a surprise.”
Sent on September 21st, 2019, at 6:40:42 pm: “comparing the attractiveness of a human versus a piece of sentient clothing? that’s beyond apples to oranges.”
Sent on September 22nd, 2019, at 3:31:08 am: “You tagged them as being the most canon a few posts ago, Goop. Maybe you should take a rest, some of these replies are getting convoluted.”
Sent on October 17th, 2019, at 4:57:52 pm: “AU where you have good takes”
Sent on October 14th, 2019, at 4:43:14 pm: “’Face me in klk IF’ cringe”
Sent on October 16th, 2019, at 1:28:30 pm: “ryuko is physical with senketsu because he’s her fucking shirt. this is getting hilarious, holy shit. they were right.”
Sent on October 29th, 2019, at 7:40:48 am: “You’ve been too busy sucking your own dick to post anything too embarrassing probably.”
Sent on October 14th, 2019, at 6:11:04 pm: “’Demonization of men’ we have gone full headass now, there’s now turning back.”
Sent on October 16th, 2019, at 2:37:06 pm: “Not everyone sends you comments because of the Ragyo issue, don’t lump everyone together. Some of us have just seen this all go downhill and feel like voicing that.”
Sent on September 22nd, 2019 at 3:35:13 am: “you’re not going to explain how senketsu’s supposed oppression is on par with human racism because there’s no evidence that it’s as overwhelming except in your mind, since you’re the only person who would ever try to say what senketsu experiences is on par with what marginalized humans go through.”
Sent on September 22nd, 2019, at 3:09:13 am: “Not to be that guy, but if you see Senketsu as a child and still ship him with Ryuko we have a huge problem.”
Sent on September 22nd, 2019, at 2:55:57 am: “Wait a minute, you just said Senketsu is a ‘literal child’, but also ship Ryuko with him and think they’re canon? That’s pretty pedophilic what the fuck”
Sent on October 16th, 2019, at 7:12:02 pm: “You ever wonder why we’re here?”

lol how do you never like the protagonist of the show? you have interesting taste
I find the motives of the antagonist more interesting, because protagonists’ motives are always the same. This antagonist killed my parents, or they’re just good by nature, like I love knowing about the motives of an antagonist because it’s usually very ambitious and selfish. I like learning about these not because I project on them or anything, it’s just really interesting to me because it’s always different for every antagonist. Although, this is why I also love Light Yagami and Lelouch because they’re an anti-hero. I would also really like an anti-villain given that they’re executed well, a prime example of this is… Satsuki Kiryuin whose actual plan was to create an army in order to defeat Ragyo. Gosh, I love my also troubled daughter. Plus, there is, of course, Zuko whose execution was good also.
I guess it’s why I never got so into any of the antagonists in LoK because they weren’t as fleshed out. In ATLA, I actually like Ozai if you make him a complex character and not dismiss him as “an asshole.” Because you know who’s just “an asshole?” It’s Unalaq, and that makes it very hard to actually like him. There’s also Amon who I actually liked, but was just hypocritical. There’s Zaheer too, who I liked the idea of, but just didn’t really like the execution. I wish he was fleshed out more, then there’s Kuvira. Kuvira’s the only one I actually like who had a backstory that made sense, that wasn’t hypocritical to her motives now.
Point is, I don’t like just any antagonist, I don’t like them when they’re just assholes. I like them when they’re complexed characters, like Ozai and Azula. I might have liked the LoK villains if they had just been fleshed out. Honestly, the only villain that felt fleshed out to me was Amon(despite hypocritical) & Tarrlok, and maybe even Kuvira, which is why they’re the ones I might have actually liked.
I also actually like the protagonist of the show, like Aang! He’s one of my favorites. But I really do just tend to lean more on understanding complicated characters, a primary example is my obsession with Azula. I don’t just like her for her aesthetic, but because she’s such a well-written villain and her writers don’t even realize.

4.  Saitama Vs Boros – One Punch Man
Tumblr media
6.  Team Dai-Gurren Vs The Anti-Spirals – Gurren Lagann
Tumblr media

Tapi akhirnya Kogami membunuh Makishima hingga membuat seorang Tsunemori kecewa terhadapnya. 10.  Reigen Arataka Vs Claw - Mob Psycho 100
