My new video on Alison Bechdel’s “Are You My Mother?”, the complex relationship between moms and queer daughters, and the difficulty of making yourself a subject as a woman.

I often forget that Alison Bechdel isn't as mainstream as I think of her to be. I was scrolling down to the comments of an interview where I feel like the man interviewing her was talking too much to see if anyone else thought the same. No comments. This video is 8 years old!

Alison Bechdel always manages to get me in such a weirdly specific way. reading Are You My Mother has been a revolutionary experience for me, both in terms of the content and intended purpose of the book, but also because of this exact concept. she details so many tiny things in her life and I'm still left paralleling it to my own experiences and contrasting how we processed similar experiences so differently and it turned us into different people.
we are so eerily similar and I'm sitting here reading her book in the middle of trying to start my own writing career and I think that's really fuckin cool. and I get to feel this way because she wrote for herself. thanks Alison 💖
