cars for dummies (or: dark can’t give a straight answer to save his life)
Summary: the ego/car content you all crave
Pairings: none
Warnings: this is niche as hell
Length (Read Time): 881 words (3m40s)

my ko-fi
You know fuck all about cars.
Honestly, your experience has been what is cheap, has decent gas mileage, and won’t break down at the drop of a hat is the car for you. Anyone starts talking about make and model and you just kind of... glaze over.
It isn’t that you don’t want to care, it’s just...
Beyond you.
But cars... they seem to reflect their owners. At least, in your recent experience.
The Barrel is yours, for example. Homey, comfortable on the inside, if a bit quirky. An unassuming outside but quite the history inside.
And you live in the thing, so it kind of has to reflect you on principle.
Mark is... flashy. Grandiose. He likes the latest and greatest, the impressive- new tech fascinates him, and he’d never turn down a status symbol if he could help it.
It makes sense that he’d go for the Tesla. Sleek and modern and expensive, just the thing he’d want.
The tendency towards cracks in the glorious facade and unpredictability make it almost ham-fisted.
Illinois has his jeep. Red and rugged, a broad and strong thing meant for an adventure through rough terrain.
Flashy, too, and with the jeep owner personality trait- full of themself, convinced of their charm and superiority. He keeps it in fantastic shape and crumbles at a scratch.
Most of the others don’t bother with cars. They don’t often need to travel, and if they do, it’s via other means: plot holes or simply walking, hitching a ride here and there.
Wilford will never set foot in one unless he thinks it’ll be funny.
You’re most surprised to learn Dark has a car, though.
It comes up during some conversation between tasks, something off-handed about an appointment for maintenance from one of the Googles.
“Wait-“ You look to Blue, astonished. “Dark? Doesn’t he just... you know? Warp around?”
Blue regards you impassively before the smallest smirk crosses his face. “I can’t be surprised, but I understand how unexpected that is. Yes, he has one.”
“Why?”
It doesn’t make sense. Dark just- he just appears where he wants to be, doesn’t he? You’ve seen him warp away and back, miles in an instant. Why a car?
“I don’t pretend to know. Or care.” Blue sniffs. “If you want that answer, you’ll have to ask him.”
It’s easier said than done, because-
“It doesn’t matter.”
Dark is as cool and flat as ever, just the slightest glitch to show something seething underneath, eyes just narrowed.
You think Blue might have set you up. Perhaps you should have asked Yellow, he likes people. Relatively.
“It might not matter,” you agree carefully, “but I’d still like to know. What draws you to a car? Do you just like them? Do you have a warp limit?”
Static. Oh dear. “It is not your business how I get around. Do you pester everyone like this?”
For a second- it almost looks like a fond smile at the edges.
“Other people aren’t so enigmatic,” you point out. “It only seems... interesting. I’m not going to judge. What kind is it?”
Dark lets out a breath. It could be a laugh, maybe, if you strained your ears. “The kind with four wheels that takes me from place to place. Does that suffice?”
You glare. “You’re being obtuse.”
“And you’re being stubborn. A match made, truly.”
As he stands- there! There, a real smile, just a little, with a flicker of blue.
Maybe he likes this conversation more than you thought.
“If we’re a match, will you show me your car?” You give your most winsome smile.
Dark eyes you.
Then, he vanishes.
Son of a bitch.
But it has to be something fancy, right? Dark is old, he puts on this air of an old money gentleman, of being distinguished and expensive.
It has to be something sleek and black and old, the same kind of hamminess Mark likes but in a different tone.
A Cadillac, maybe. The kind of car people think is sexy.
Not that you think Dark is particularly-
Anyway.
It bothers you, keeps you up and following him around where he goes.
Dark probably knows, considering the edge of blue around his outline, the corner of a smile when he just turns, but you never catch him with the car.
Until you do.
It wasn’t on purpose. You weren’t hunting him, for once.
It was just a coffee run, really, you swear. Warfstache Tonight was going to shoot and everyone needed some coffee or pastry or what have you, and as the PA it’s your responsibility. Somehow.
So you step out of the Barrel, a list in hand, and-
There’s Dark, a cup in hand. Black coffee, expensive beans, you know it has to be because he’s a snob.
But the car-
“You drive a Civic?” You blurt, eyes locked on Dark’s over the silver roof.
He stares back at you. Then, without a word, he gets inside and drives off.
You can’t hurry to get him a shitty bumper sticker fast enough, grinning with delight as you slide a ‘I like my coffee black, just like my soul’ sticker across the desk.
You didn’t know he could burn things with his mind.
You learn something new every day.

Info dump #5: Digital Reincarnation Naming Lore + Arts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Been a long time since I’ve done one of these but, I wanted to explain a little thing that will be in the future, since I have posted a series of pictures over the past months, that have taken me longer and stressed me out more than they should have, unfortunately I should add, but that’s my will of starting new things over finishing WIPs, and series of drawings, if consistent make me want to move away rather than not, but that’s me and it’s not what I wanted to talk about.
I wanted to talk about the reason why I chose certain names, some may be pretty obvious, since they are canon, trust me, Yoko Taro said so, but others may be a little spoilery for now.
So if you want to read, do so at your own discretion, they’ll be further down, I’ll start with the canon ones.
As we know, the four YoRHa girls protagonists of the musical had a promise with Rose, even though she didn’t make it to the end, like most of them, that promise never took place, but in an interview and a twitter post, that Rose’s actress (and anime VA too now) Ui Hinagata had been thinking about naming the girls, and revealed it, and as she said the names Yoko Taro plainly declared them canon.
The meaning of the flowers may not be accurate, they’re the most popular meanings online.
A2’s name is Freesia. That flower means trust and friendship, possibly given to her due to the fact that she decided to have faith in Rose and her group, that started everything.
A4’s name is Amaryllis. The flower means pride and determination, possibly since she is always determined to fight no matter what, also may be due to her false memories, she was a school girl that spoke about having a lot of friends that gave her the strength to face a difficult test.
G16’s name is Lycoris. The flower is otherwise known as a spider lily, the meaning seems to be death and goodbyes, possibly tied to her violent nature and for the fact she’s always the first to throw herself in battle.
S21’s name is Cattleya. The flower means beauty, grace, and love, though I do agree that she’s beautiful and graceful (I’m biased as it’s probably obvious she’s my favorite of the four), possibly the name might have been given due to the meaning about love, because as we know personalities of the Number 21 are very caring about the people around them, and their dreams is to have a family.
These were the canonical ones, now the ones chosen by myself, though I did ask for help and an opinion of other friends who love Nier.
2B’s name is Luna, which is short for Lunar Tears, as we feel it’s a flower that would fit her well, ties in the lore of the game, and its meaning is hope in a dying world, which also fits her very well.
6O’s name is Sunny, short for Sunflower, means positivity, admiration and loyalty, personally I feel all three meanings fit her, she’s a happy person, she admires the people close to her and is loyal to them.
These two are a little more niche and tied to the lore of the story, and particularly, tied to Robin.
9S’ name is Clover, though the flower means gentleness and good fortune, he is gentle with 2B, and also he’s lucky and blessed between women as we say, but he’s mostly tied to Robin as if you know her, with Professor Clover. 9S is curious and like him he’s been killed (multiple times) because of his forbidden knowledge. 2B still calls him Nines.
21O’s name is Olivia, olive branches are a symbol of peace, all that YoRHa want, but, much like 9S, if you know the lore, Robin’s mother’s name is Olvia, but as you can see it’s not the exact same, this is because 21O refuses to have the exact name of her mother, even though she feels like one, she doesn’t want to take Olvia’s place. To Robin’s insistence, a letter is added, turning the name to Olivia, keeping it similar yet not the same, and keeping the same flower/plant theme.
These were the ideas, there’s nothing more to this than that.
The chapter will be out a while in the future, the naming is not too far away.

18, 22, and 29 for the fic asks, please!
18 - Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?
Oh this so, so depends on the fic, in part because every once and a while an excellent title descends upon me early in the process and also if I'm working on a fic for a while I have more time to think.
Usually my fics start out with placeholder titles that are whatever came to mind when I first saved the document; I'm yet to have one of those graduate to being a final title but that's partially because they're all things like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...and are often tonally different than what I'm actually going for.
As far as where my titles end up actually coming from, poems are a common culprit; I've got one or two song lyric ones, and some inspired by various other cultural references (ranging from like... pop cultural to Biblical). I tend to try to work in some wordplay, irony, or symbolism where I can, and love a title with layers.
Breaking down a couple recent ones:
Beharren ist eine Kunst -- German for "Persistence is an art," stemming from the longer proverb "Anfangen ist leicht, Beharren eine Kunst" (Beginning is easy, persistence an art), works particularly well for a story about an artist where "Kunst" doubles as a bit of a play on words.
Stemma Codicum -- A textual criticism term referring to the chart that can be drawn of different manuscripts relationship to each other (what was copied from what, where changes entered into the manuscript transmission process, and etc). Worked really well for a Pentiment fic about three "alternate timelines" all branching from a single change at a specific point in canon -- manuscript transmission as a metaphor for those critical points in people's lives that manage to change everything!
Long Upon the Land -- A tongue-in-cheek reference to Exodus 20:12, which reads ""Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee"," as a title for a fic in which a character with an overbearing abusive father contemplates art and things that can outlast us across generations. Really loved the irony with this one, it's one of my favorites I've come up with in a while.
Needless to say they draw from all over the places, but I feel like between them it's pretty easy to get a feel for what I like in titles.
22 - Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)
I don't want to say there's for sure something I won't do, just because it seems like there's exceptions to everything (Pentiment wrung a "Major Character Death" warning tag out of me which is a new one!), but in general I am pretty allergic to most romance tropes. I'll write romantic relationships -- although my fics rarely center on them, but that's one of those things I'd be willing to assume might have an exception one day -- but when I do, they tend not to be particularly trope-y. There's just a lot of amatonormativity steeped into ideas like soulmates, fake dating, etc, and I'm not interested enough in them to consider ways to rehabilitate them in my own writing. I am but a tired aro and while it means I'll never write the most popular fic in any fandom I'm in, I get by perfectly fine in my little gen niche.
I'm also not a big fan of writing in first person (reading can go either way! I'm less into it in fic unless the canon itself is in first person, but fine with it in original fiction), but even that one has an exception on the horizon! If and when I finally write my TOH Sherlock Holmes pastiche, it'll probably be in first person, to mimic the original source material. So really that's a great example of why I have a pretty solidly "never say never" stance on most non-romantic tropes and devices.
29 - What’s your revision or editing process like?
I have a horrible confession to make. I edit as I go. My terrible perfectionist brain struggles to make peace with messy first drafts, and while I'll often give things a final, editor's eye read-through once I've finished writing, the bulk of my editing happens on repeated re-readings of the material throughout the writing process.
This is not a good way of doing things and I would love to break the habit, particularly since I think it would result in me writing more and faster. Do as I say, not as I do, everyone.

What is your approach to writing smut and how has it evolved since you started writing fic?
This is a really good question! Thank you for asking it. 💕
Ok, so, when I started writing fic (nearly three years ago!), I made a rule for myself: I wasn’t allowed to shy away from writing anything that I enjoyed reading. If I read smut, and I read smut, I had to be willing to write it.
The techniques I’ve picked up since then are all in response to making myself face it. If something makes me nervous or embarrassed, I ask myself why. Does it feel too personally revealing? Do I not feel like I have enough information to write it convincingly? Is there some cliche or trope associated with it that I don’t enjoy? Figuring out the root cause of that anxiety helps me decide how to handle it—sometimes something too personal can be satisfied by writing “drawer fic” that I never publish, or by grounding that thing in a character’s personality or a story’s themes, so that it’s got multiple bases for existence. Information can come through more research, and often that weakness means I need to go more slowly with whatever I’m writing. Wanting to avoid cliches or tropes forces me to consider why I dislike them, because perhaps I can like the thing by changing up the standard language, or maybe I can divorce two elements that are assumed to go together and find a version that I really love. Some examples:
A Sense of Self in Decline started as an omegaverse AU fic, which is a set of tropes I don’t love when all bundled together—but I really enjoyed an idea I’d seen proposed somewhere about two alphas fucking instead of fighting one another. I wrote the first chapter based on that, then went back and revised everything so that it fit in a setting that I preferred. But the core idea of fuck instead of fight was really hot to me, and I let that inspiration drive the smut writing even though I knew I wouldn’t ultimately want to publish omegaverse AU for reasons of broader trope disagreement.
Changeling initially embarrassed me because it needed to be piss kink, a fairly niche kink often viewed as gross. But it was the correct kink for the job: the cup horcrux, symbolized by the acts of drinking and profane baptism, demanded it. So I spent a lot more time reading and thinking about piss kink in order to feel more comfortable with it as a normal thing, and my breakthrough came because, after priming myself to accept the kink, I found connections to other aspects of the fic. (The Doors—Jim Morrison and public urination—see the title.)
Most of my smut is vanilla sex, for some definition thereof, and not especially fraught in the wider context of fandom smut. I do try to include kink when I can, because I enjoy it, but one final note I’ll make is that part of interrogating my own preferences and interests and comfort as a writer is making peace with the fact that I’m just not into power differences in my sex scenes, and that’s mostly how I see kink manifest. I think that’s why the kink I have written tends towards aspects of the body (clothes, parts, functions, fluids) and notably less in the way of roles, language, and restraint. For me, writing smut is an exercise in asking myself to reinvent the wheel. It’s a space in which I spend a lot of time trying to break the act down into component parts, to build a scene from first principles rather than pre-existing set pieces. New words, new associations, new attempts to describe the actions and parts and emotions of fucking. It’s imperfect. A cock’s a cock. But this helps me to be satisfied with my sex scenes, even if they cover only vanilla acts. At least they feel hot, and novel, to me.

Day 22. Time travel
I hate time travel as a plot device. It makes no sense half of the time. The other half of the time it just makes everything needlessly convoluted. I haven't seen a time travel plot done well outside of very niche, high-concept sci-fi. Anyways, have two people who are the same person but are almost nothing alike anymore yell at each other.
The graves were symbolic. Of course, she knew where all of their bodies were; she had that chronicled. When you're the one to outlive them all you get a choice: forget or carry a piece of each and every one of them with you at all times.
“Another year, you aren’t missing much Barney, nothing ever changes.” "Oh man, so that's how it goes huh? Immortality really is a bummer." A familiar voice came out of nowhere, startling her. Her magic ignited in one palm while the other reached for the grip of her rapier. "How did I get jumpier with age? Are you somehow more stressed now than in high school?" The person behind her was herself. The other Norma looked at her with a critical eye. "So it's true you don't grow much after puberty." She sounded disappointed. "Hey." Looking at herself, or rather, at a version of herself she'd considered dead and gone, was a bit shocking. "What the fuck?" "Long story, I think we're currently destroying multiple timelines actually." She seemed pretty cool with that. Okay, so that wasn't exactly "her". It should've been obvious from the start. They wouldn't have been able to interact in this way unless… "You're doing something very stupid and very dangerous." "I know." "Do you now? You can't jump forward without derailing your original timeline, you can't just hop over to the next fork and pretend it's fine!" Even in her own reckless youth, she'd never reached this level of unhinged. Starting a multiplanar war was nothing in comparison to whatever this brat was doing. "I never said it was fine." The kid huffed. "We're combing through the splits to find the one where the world doesn't end. We want to see how the other versions of us prevented it and copy their solution." "That's the most creative way of admitting you ran out of ideas I've ever heard." She was beginning to lose patience. "Sometimes everything goes to shit and there's no way of fixing it. Burying hundreds of other timelines under your misery is beyond selfish." "You don't get to talk to me about selfishness." She almost spat that sentence out. "You're a vampire, there's no way you haven't done stuff you regret." What a cheap gotcha, they really were from completely different worlds. "Go back home, Norma. Exactly a second after you left. Every moment you aren't in the stream of your timeline you create a split. Go back and figure your problems out." She turned away to face the graves again.
Time is unforgiving, and while its nature isn't exactly linear, the cause-and-effect chains bind everyone and everything in the moment. Pulling one element out inevitably unravels the whole structure, breaks it down, and creates paradoxes. Nothing good ever came from time travel. "This timeline isn't a total mess." "I told you to go home." "No. I need to ask you something first." The gravel crunched under her combat boots as she approached. "How did you do it?" "I'm not letting you copy my homework." This was what having a younger sibling must have been like. Poor Ana. "Just tell me how to save the world and you'll never see me again." "No, but if I tell you how I've done it, you'll be seeing me sooner than you'd like."

what does wee lees yes mean? I've always wondered
Hey, anon!
Wee Lees Yes is up in my bio as my safe/encouragement tag. It started out after I joined a Rock Lee Discord and found out it was…mostly teenagers. XD
After a bit of fluster and asking them if it was still okay for me to be there, we became friends.
Broad ranges of age groups aren’t that uncommon among my friends. My oldest friend is Ninety and I’ve known her since I was about eighteen. My youngest friends are about sixteen. Plenty of people my age have children, and some of them are teens by now, and it just…kind of happens when you mostly hang in niche groups by interest, or do stuff as groups in places where your families are. The kids join in or the parents join in pretty organically if you tabletop game or do board games. (I’ve got like. Two seventy year olds I follow on tumblr and their fandom posts or crafting posts are always *Really Interesting*. Different generations consume content and produce content in different ways but that’s…digressing.)
Since I used to have a cluster of minors following me, I started making a tag specifically for them full of Safe Things.
Usually these involved animals (like capybaras—usually chilling in the presence of other animals. Which seems to be…my designated symbol on the part of the Wee Lees.) or useful life posts of things I wish I’d had when I was a teen or…dad jokes. (Because I’m “Dad”. Which is…another long story.)
The three remaining Wee Lees, Frange, Alu, and Nino are all in their twenties now, but I still have all the infrastructure for encouraging posts or…posts that would be safe for a minor to follow if they stumbled on my blog and wanted a hand-tailored tag that’s safe for them.
It’s…basically rooted in the same reason my unsafe tag is “Wee Lees No” and not one of the more common unsafe tags.
Tumblr over the years has had a habit of deleting or restricting certain tags, so I wanted to be sure a less safe tag would still be searchable but also very clearly marked so people could avoid OR seek it out. (Tagging things as NSFW for a while meant they didn’t show up at all.)
I also trigger tag things by request so sometimes you see a whole tag for something like “Not Safe For Cams” in addition to “tw: arachnophobia” because the viability of the more commonly used tags fluctuates depending on current censorship on the site.
Redundancy tends to keep people safe when you don’t know if you can trust something common, but unusual tagging also gives people the option to consume content without necessarily following me as long as they understand my intentions and want what the tag has to offer.
It also means people don’t have to reveal their ages or personal info for me if they’re just trying to take or consume what they want. Because…I’m from that kind of generation of internet safety, and I’m really not that reliable at bio-checking anyway.

1 and 12 for the fic writer ask game thing!!
Meg!! I’m so happy when I see you in my askbox ❤️❤️❤️
1. What part of the writing process is the most enjoyable?
Answered here, so I’ll do 2 instead
2. Talk about a favorite comment you received.
Well, I am blessed with incredibly thoughtful readers who’ll leave me amazing comments that I all cherish and enjoy so I don’t really have a favourite, but there’s something very special with a certain type of comments where the reader starts by explaining that they thought at first they wouldn’t like the story but they gave it a try and actually enjoyed it? I got this kind of comments on rather “niche” fics such as the Nursing Home or the Ghost AU (and some of the Dean POV-ish stuff lol), and it always feels like a testament to my writing that I managed to suck people in, who didn’t think it would be their thing, you know?
12. What is your favorite theme/subject matter/trope/ship to write about? Why?
Grief. (Shared) Trauma. Pain. Physicality. Symbolism. Healing. Sexual tension. Characters in denial. Oh moments. Caretaking. Hugs and other physical manifestations of affection. Kisses. Absolute Crack. Whatever ship that sparks for me.
As for why, there's a short answer which is that it just speaks to me, and a long answer which I believe is perhaps too personal to share with the room 😘
Happy ramble

Get To Know You tag meme
Thank you @blind-the-winds for the tag!💛
Relationship Status: Single, and thriving! With where I’m currently at in life and being busy with school, work, and hobbies (and coming to terms with identifying as Aromantic and Demisexual), I just am not interested in dating or relationships. Just let me be with my silly online mutuals, my silly characters, my silly stories, and my silly books! Just... just leave me in peace with my Bob Odenkirk simping... is that too much to ask?!😩
Favorite Color(s): Yellow is my ultimate favorite color, but I also love burnt oranges and warm brown shades!
Favorite Food: It’s hard for me to pick a single food that I like a lot, but I’m a whore for fries, sushi, and BLTs. OH!! And my inner Wisconsinite loves cheese curds and tater tot casserole. 🥺
Song Stuck in My Head: Nightmare by Tuesday Knight. I keep listening to it for Those Red Nights inspiration! It’s a song that fits Selene, and the kind of character she’s been developing into!
Last Thing You Googled: What jasmine could be symbolic for... it’s relevant to The Monster and the Butterfly.
Time: 5:47 PM.
Dream Trip: Visiting my best friends out west, visiting Prague in the Czech Republic, visiting Bucharest and Transylvania in Romania, visiting London.
Last Thing You Read: Content Warning: Everything by Akwaeke Emezi, a book of poetry I read for an LGBTQ+ poetry class. SUPER GOOD!!!!! But lots of super heavy material (please, please, PLEASE bear in mind the title if you ever decide to read it) - personally, my religious trauma made some bits hard to process.
Last Book You Enjoyed Reading: My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix - so, so so GOOD!!!!!! The next book of his I want to read Final Girl’s Support Group!! He is easily becoming a favorite author of mine!
Favorite Thing to Cook/Bake: I can make a mean spaghetti and meat sauce, ngl. I also love baking peach and apple cobblers!
Favorite Craft to Do in Your Free Time: Drawing!! I’m not crafty whatsoever and, funnily enough, am not good with my hands at all, so I just like drawing. XD
Most Niche Dislike: I think it’s just general chewing sounds?? It’s a lot of auditory stuff for me, but literally any mouth sounds that aren’t talking always make me feel agitated??? Like the sound of chewing, swallowing, licking lips, clicking tongues, etc.
Opinions on Circuses: Love the aesthetic, the glamor, the spectacle!! But it’s kind of the ethics surrounding animals and circuses that make me feel a little ick about it ngl. But the history of circuses and such can be interesting--and dark, too.
Do You Have Any Sense of Direction: Yes! If I am in a place I’m familiar with, I can navigate stuff super well, and I’m pretty good with direction!
I tag whoever wishes to do this!!!!!💛

30 Day Fictionkind Challenge: Days 11-25
11). Have you ever met other fictionkin? In real life or online?
Yes! I have a group of online friends who are fictionkin, as well as people who I’ve met through forums and social media. Real-life though I’m not sure, I’ve had friends who claimed they ‘kinned’ characters but never really elaborated on that.
12). Have you ever met canonmates? In real life or online?
No canonmates, but I know a few sourcemates online. I don’t really put much weight on either of these things or look for people to fill character niches.
13). Have you ever met doubles? In real life or online? How did it go?
Yes, online. I don’t like it very much but I’m not going to attack someone for being the same guy as me. I’m uncomfortable with it but I’ll just remove myself from the situation. If they’re a dick to me about it that’s their problem I don’t really care.
14). What are shifts like?
We have a similar personality as it is, I see myself as Vergil but if he had better morals and was ever so slightly nicer to be around, so I don’t really get distinct mental shifts. I have phantom shifts of his Devil Trigger form though. Horns, clawed hands and feet, tail, and mandibles are the main parts I feel.
15). How do you deal with kin for fun?
If they’re not being rude to me for taking ‘kin seriously, I have no issue with them. I keep to my own space.
16). What are your thoughts on symbols, flags, etc.?
Not for me personally but if it makes other people happy go for it.
17). Does fictionkinity connect to spirituality for you?
A little. I’ve never been that into spirituality for myself, but some things do point towards that explanation. I don’t believe it’s reincarnation in my case but misplaced soul perhaps? It’s definitely possible.
18). Does fictionkinity connect to neurodivergence for you?
Yes, I think a big part of my fictionkind identity is that it lets me see the world through the eyes of a character and not through my own. It gives me a grounding force to hold onto, someone to see myself as. Not in a copinglink way, but it does help me to cope, it’s hard to explain.
19). Do other people notice your similarity to a character or species?
Yep. I’ve been compared to him a few times, either in physical appearance or in personality. I think most people who know him and know I either am him or like him see me as him.
20). How do you express your fictotype? Clothes, merch, cosplay, maybe even name?
We have the same name, not really used that much irl (other than close friends) but it’s my main name online. Other than that I don’t really do much? I have the same white hair, and I wear more blue than usual now I guess.
21). What’s something about the fictionkind community you wish was different?
There was a post about it a while back. I wish we had more serious writing and experience sharing on tumblr rather than just kincalls and moodboards. I also wish there was more of an active fictionkin presence on forums so there’s more threads and discussion and questions being asked.
22). What’s something about the fictionkind community that you appreciate?
How different all of our ‘types and sources are, and how different and unique our experiences can be. I enjoy hearing about other people’s thoughts and feelings on their fictotype and their memories or things they know about their source.
23). How do you approach consuming your source? Analytically, obsessively, casually, reluctantly, etc…
Obsessively, ‘tis the autism. I want to know everything about it and play every game a million times, I want to become an expert and an encyclopaedia of knowledge even if I don’t enjoy it or parts of the source upset me.
24). What’s the worst anti-fickin take you’ve seen?
I don’t know tbh, that kind of thing doesn’t really stay in my mind.
25). What’s the best anti-fickin take you’ve seen? Respond to it.

hello i wanna be annoying and stay hanging around here bc i can’t talk to any of my irl friends rn skfkgkd
can i ask abt why diluc is beloved? like more than just bc he’s hot?🦈
UR NOT ANNOYING DW <3
i can't talk for every diluc enjoyer out there but. i have many reasons to love him (mostly platonic tho, i just want to kiss his forehead and tell him he's doing so good but he can take a break now. SOBS) and his looks are really just an added bonus to me tbh. anyway
- his personality. ngl it's actually the 1st thing that had me hooked, not even his looks. he seems kinda rough but he's actually one of the most gentle souls in the whole game, and it's hard to see at first bc in the beginning quests he was a bit cold/reserved, which is understandable bc we had just met him. however when you look at his voice-overs, he's so caring and soft, in little things like saying u can use an umbrella, and that the only thing that matters is that you're safe at night etc
- game-wise, he's way stronger than people make him out to be, and therefore became kind of a niche dps? and i like underrated characters a lot because they deserve the love. and i still think the diluc treatment is unfair, but that counts for many other characters (like xinyan, for example). his gameplay is also extremely fun imo, the mechanics of his skill are <333
- his relationship with kaeya. im talking strictly platonically here because i can't speak on the whole translation debate (since yours truly does not speak a single cn word and does not wish to get involved), BUT from a 100% platonic/brotherly perspective, their relationship is extremely interesting. not only in the whole literal way its orchestrated (the fact that diluc almost killed kaeya and caused him to get a vision, the guilt that must eat at the both of them at all times, the way they still keep in touch even if it seems one-sided etc), but also in the symbolics (red/blue, fire/ice, the golden child and the outsider, the introvert and the extrovert...). in a way, their younger selves remind me of achilles and patroclus (still platonic please people, don't rip me apart) and im so sad to see many people sleeping on it, because it involves one guy that's banned from snezhnaya and managed to single-handedly take on multiple harbingers (iirc) and one mysterious fellow coming from an otherwise destroyed civilization, whose intentions remain DUBIOUS. so two characters who've been there since day 1 and could be involved in the last parts of the whole story
i could probably go on for hours about all of this but im gonna stop there bc it's already getting LONG. anyway. diluc deserves the world and i can't wait to see what they do with him in the 2.8 update

Essential tools / Book review / Brand Identity Essentials by Kevin Budelmann and Yang Kim
This book is split into sections: essential tools, decisions and strategies. In this post I want to touch on essential tools that include factors like image, colour, typography, shape, contrast, dimension, symbols, voice, consistency, story and time.
Image
the more literal and illustrative logo is, the less work a potential customer needs to put in to interpret it. Some brands keep their logos metaphoric and open for interpretation, like apple's logo, where it isn't for a fruit store, but for knowledge/forbidden fruit or gravity.
Colour
brands go beyond placing logos on everything, a sophisticated image can really enhance the messaging
make sure you find a visual niche for your brand rather than focusing on cliche images that will only add noise to your branding.
colour can give an immediate emotional quality to a brand
some colours are associated with certain brands, so when choosing a shade keep in mind what interpretation it can trigger in your target audience
Tumblr media
Typography
typography always has strong personality - serifs are associated with tradition, whereas sans serifs with modernity and technology; what is the period in which my brand exists?
typestyles often carry their own identities
Shape
shapes can become a memorable component of a graphic identity
graphic patterns can help with maintaining consistency
shapes can suggest the use of a product or the promises a brand gives
Contrast
'the less contrast a mark has, the harder it is to be noticed'
customers asking questions can create a personal connection to your brand
the mark must contrast from its surroundings to make an impact
sometimes the solutions isn't to make a logo bigger but to increase the contrast
contrast isn't only in looks, but in how brands behave and how they speak
Tumblr media
Dimension
taking logo marks out in real world can be a great promotional and memorable element
when a brand moves into a three dimensional space, digital concepts can be translated in unexpected and refreshing ways
when making a physical space, consider bringing in actual objects that are associated with the brand or can increase its impact, like placing anchors and fishing nets in a seafood restaurant.
Tumblr media
Symbols
be cautious about the interpretation of symbols you use, as many have cultural, historical and personal meaning
many brands integrate a systematic use of symbols, if a logo mark is a circle, brands can use footage of round objects that relate to the brand
Voice
consider how the words would sound in the mouth of a brand spokesperson; personalise your brand, turn it into a character: how do they speak? how do they behave and what do they say?
Consistency
it starts with identifying core elements
structure brings restraint, order, and comfort
consistent foundation allows for effective highlight, clever uses and creativity
flexible systems allow to expand on the visuals, however you need to define rules and boundaries to keep them consistent
brands are promises and keeping them means being consistent
Story
the logo is only the beginning of the story, which you can expand throughout your branding
if a graphic identity is a book cover, program elements are its chapters - consider where and how its being seen and used
stories can be rocky with challenges, heroes and purpose, make your story interesting and keep coming back to it through out your promotional materials
Time
each brand moment is an investment and an opportunity, so every aspect matters - consider each interaction as a specific exchange of value with your customer
people want to feel in control
if customers feel like they waste their time, how can you change their mindset and make your brand worthy?
This chapter of the book provided me with valuable knowledge and aspects I need to follow when developing my brand and understanding how my target audience can relate to it. It also provides a lot of insights into the power of visual language.

Those emoji asks are so cute, it was hard to choose which ones to send you; I think 🏵️,🍄, 🫐, 🥀 seem interesting!
Thank you for the asks Kay!! They really are super cute, aren't they? 🥺
🏵️ what flower symbolizes you? if none come to mind, what’s your birth flower and do you identify with its meaning?
Well, my middle name is Yasmin, after both the Disney princess and the jasmin flower. It means "gift from God", which I personally really love! I feel very connected to it, and I looove the smell! My mother once gave a really expensive little flask of jasmin perfume that I wear every year on my birthday. I'm planning to get them tattooed on me one day, they're so cute and dainty 🥺 My actual favourite flowers though, would probably peonies (and tulips!)
🍄 if you had to live the rest of your life as either a gnome, a fairy, or another woodland creature which would you choose and where would you live?
FAIRY 🧚‍♀️!! I love fairies SO SO MUCH, they're super cute! I'd love nothing more than be a tiny fairy or pixie, dressed in leaves and flower petals, sleeping on top of mushrooms and hollowed-out trees 🥺 I'd probably choose somewhere where there's plenty of tall, giant trees, moss, and flowers all year round, maybe close to a stream? If not a fairy, then probably a woodland nymph! I could bathe in rivers by the moonlight and feel the earth with my bare feet. That's the dream.
🫐 do you consider yourself a passionate person? if so, about what topics?
Ha, if by passionate you mean completely and totally obsessed and unhinged, then yes. No, but really. Asides from the ~obvious~ (and excluding cliché answers like art and literature etc), something that I'm actually super passionate about would be floriography (flower language), and colour theory! It's not super surprising if you pay attention, but I feel like they're somewhat niche topics? I also adore analog photography - in fact I'm thinking of reviving my photography side blog and picking up my cameras again.
[oh I just thought of something else - contemporary dance! I LOVE seeing choreographies and performances on it (and love love when it's combined with ballet). There's this indie artist that I really like, Ry X, who has collaborated with a dancer couple (?) for his last album. The song "Your Love" features them in the video - it's truly beautiful to watch and peaceful to hear.]
🥀 what keeps you motivated/helps boost your mood when you’re feeling off?
Again, I feel like this is a super boring answer, but just looking/interacting with art! More specifically, I like to listen to my favourite albums whenever I'm feeling a bit more droopy, and watching my fav comfort movies. My personal favourites for situations like that will forever and always be Stuck In Love and It's Kind of a Funny Story. They're very very close to my heart and I always feel renewed when I'm finished. I know thar for a lot of people, talking with friends or loved ones would be the obvious choice, but I really am an introvert through and through - I always feel better by myself (even though I love my friends!). Reading also helps - whether be poetry, or just studying about my favourite artists' life and work.

PLEASE! vil and rook character analysis. If you want !! I would love to hear your thoughts! Love your art btw!
hello anon!!!! <|:]
i don't think my thoughts on vil would be much different than many other twst players? despite certain wasted potential and sloppy writing made by the creators, i definitely believe he has one of the best personalities and the best developments. and also despite the fact that vil is largely mischaracterized by the fandom, he's also loved by many like me who have already written many comprehensive essays about his given complexity. if you'd still want me to analyze the content about vil's character and share my own thoughts about him then i sure can! but it'd likely just be a reiteration of what others have said. however if you would like to know what i think about more subjective and niche areas of his personality, where in my own inference and deduction comes into play (basically headcanons), then please ask away!!
i feel this is also applicable for rook, and more so; because of his enigmatic personality some players have come up with rather unique takes on him to fill in the gaps so i dont feel what i say would differ much from the interpretations of his existing material nor that much interesting compared to how some view him.
despite all that, if you're still interested in what i have to say about them then please bear with me because id have to come up with a comprehensive template/structure that allows me to go balls to the walls insanium in tha cranium about them to the fullest!!
also, thank you so much! i just got out of a 2 year long art block so my skill is a little rusty. however i have a dream and it's to be the brain eating amoeba in your backyard pool and by God i will become it. im not the funniest jester in the royal court who sits in the kings lap and feeds him sherry wine because i tickle his pickle like no one else but i also need to run twst characters through the fuck-it-upinator. whether comedic, or homosexual, or deeply and emotionally ravaging and symbolic, it doesn't matter because you will suffer my visions by proxy xx

My Quiz Pet Peeves
DISCLAIMER: just my random-ass opinions on shit that ultimately doesn't matter and is not that important at all, but I wanna talk about it becauee I like talking a lot. It's not that relevant. It's not the universal truth. It's not the "right way to go about it". It's just what I like and what I think. If you don't agree, ok.
Ok so. Here's the thing: I hate the unrelatable quiz options. I hate the super specific quiz options about stuff I don't know and often never heard of. And specially I hate quiz options that revolve around USA culture and presume everyone knows how USA schools/colleges were like. But I'm gonna leave that one for another day, I'm here to talk about the "pick one of the following" and I have no clue what the options are or mean.
Listen, you guys need to stop making super specific subjective personal niche quiz options, you need to start understanding that different people don't know the shit you do and have different references than the ones you do! No matter how much you think "but everyone knows-" no. Everyone does not know. Do something relatable! Or at least add a "I don't know" option. You guys need to go generic!
"Choose a song from this person" like omg I don't listen to that person, I don't know! Instead, ask me about my favorite music genre! Or a favorite artist, but with lots of different options! (And a "I don't know any" option, always). My favorite musical instrument even! I can forgive 'pick a lyric even if you don't know the song' type of questions, although I do find those boring because I never know the songs, but at least they are doable. I'm just a silly hamster who doesn't knoe any song, so ok. Just remember people won't have your references.
"Pick a tarot card" I don't know tarot. I have no fucking clue what the cards look like or what they mean. So if you MUST use that question, give me pictures and meanings so that someone who doesn't know it can have anything to base their choice on!
"Zodiac sign" would already be kinda niche, lots of people don't know it, maybe give them a date or description if you want to go for it, but honestly, today a quiz asked me about "modalities: fixed, mutable and cardinal" and like. I've never even HEARD of those before, I had to leave the quiz to Google what the fuck that was, like, my bitch?? Not everyone knows your stuff! People don't all have the same references, so I don't know... write what these symbolize instead, anything that made you put then in the quiz.
"Choose a color" should always come with the colors in the option unless it's just basic shades like "red, orange, green". If you'll do "Tiffany, rust, aquamarine, bubblegum", etc, then add an image of the color. Add the specific shade you're referring to because colors have multiple names and no one agrees on them. Use the Hex Code with the color if you want, just show the user what you are referring to.
"What's your favorite characters from THIS SHOW" shut up! Ask me my favorite trope or archetype instead, with a brief description of each option! I don't watch that show! I don't know these motherfuckers!
"What's your favorite celebrity" PLEASE add a "I don't know / I don't care" option, because some people won't know any of them or won't care enough about that! Please! Same for "Choose a movie" or "Choose a book".
"What's other people's impression of you" do I look like other people? I don't know! Ask me how I would describe myself! This is a real pet peeve I know but also ughhh.
Personally, I really like the "What would you do if...." questions, I think they are generic as long as the options are varied, and you don't need some background reference or previous knowledge for them. I don't know why I never see those in quizzes....
To sum it up: just go generic, relatable, practical. I know you wanna be artsy and poetic but like... at least in most options, make it something doable. Make it something anyone would be able to reply in a genuine form so half of us don't need to go "Ugh I wanted to skip this question but I have to reply so I'll choose anything random and it's gonna affect my result and maybe it has nothing to do with me".
Anyway none of that REALLY matters, do whatever you want in reality, it's your quizz and I'm not the boss of you, but I'm just saying what I would personally like myself and it's not really that important.
"But, Waffle, you wrote a huge text post, you must be pissed!"
No my dude. I just can't shut up. Every time I wanna talk about something I will write a wall of text because that's how I roll.
Sorry for the long post, here's a picture of a grasshopper:

Base rules:
- Asks and submissions are absolutely welcome, no matter the subject.
- Fic recs, no matter the fandom, are also extremely welcome.
- Feel free to tag me in your post. I will probably not see fanart/talking about my fic/me unless you tag me, since tumblr's search system is abysmal, so I in fact encourage you to tag me.
- DMs are open for polite discussion.
- Hate speech, harassment or other harmful actions of any kind toward any member of society is not tolerated. This rule extends to me. If you notice me being an asshole, tell me.
- I do not obsessively, or even regularly, check my follower list or count. If you have lost interest in my work or me as a person or disagree with anything I have said, please feel free to unfollow me.
Triggers/squicks:
I intend this blog to be a safe space for everyone, no matter their preferences - but that requires some tolerance from you, too. If what I post about routinely upsets/triggers you, please consider unfollowing or blocking me. I won't mind! The good thing about this platform is that blocking really isn't that personal, and I won't take it that way either.
I try to add the same trigger warnings/squicks to my posts should they contain them every time, but I'm only human, and sometimes I forget or simply don't realise something is a squick/trigger. Feel free to point it out if you feel I missed something! It's not 100% that I'll agree with you, but I'd rather be told than have double-guess myself all the time.
About me:
Hi, my name is Dutch. I am an adult, my pronouns are he/him and they/them, and I most commonly write darkfic with taboo subjects as the main focus, which will probably be what you know me for. My updates are sporadic and not scheduled, although I tend to try and get a chapter out every two months, give or take. Sometimes you're lucky and I post three chapters in a week.
I also draw, the results of which you might see every once in a blue moon over at @itsevansart. I enjoy a wide. I tend to create playlists for my fics that are comprised mainly of niche indie and rock, which you can find on my Spotify.
I love cats. My wip list is over 100 works long. I have over 50 physical notebooks dedicated solely to fics.
Bonus content:
The (out of date) masterpost of all of my incest works
My AO3 bookmark recs (multifandom)
A comprehensive, expansive resource for Plant symbolism
A non-comprehensive wip pile of research for the reformation of the Harry Potter Ministry of Magic, with sources
