A tiny hand tugged at the hem of his long coat; an even tinier voice spoke.

"Daddy?"

Jin immediately stopped in his tracks and looked down. His young daughter looked up at him; with the exception of his garnet eyes, she was the spitting image of you.

"Daddy?" she repeated, her voice even softer this time.

Jin knelt on the ground, putting himself at her eye level. "What's the matter?" he asked, his voice almost as soft as hers.

"I'm scared..."

"I know it's scary, kiddo. It's your first day of school." He rested a gentle hand on her shoulder, his warmth reassuring. "Can I tell you a secret?"

Your watched from afar as Jin spoke to your daughter in a hushed voice, not as the King of Rhodolite, but as an adoring father. Your heart filled with warmth as you watched the pair share a secret meant for their ears only.

Your daughter nodded solemnly, her gaze never leaving Jin's as she leaned her head towards his, curious to hear her father's secret.

"I've been scared before."

The young child gasped, her eyes widening. "You were scared?"

Jin chuckled, his eyes crinkling, amused by his daughter's shock. "Yes, everyone's been scared at one point or another in their life. Even adults. And it's okay to be scared."

"What did you do when you were scared?"

"I carried something from a loved one. It always made me feel safe. Loved. When I was your age, it was a trinket from my mom, your grandmother. But these days," Jin said, tilting his face towards you, winking, "I carry a handkerchief your mother gave me."

The little girl looked sadly at her empty hands. "But I didn't bring anything from my loved ones!"

"We'll have to remedy that, then." Jin patted his pockets, searching for a trinket to give his little girl, but came up empty. "Ah, I know!" He slipped off the bracelet on his wrist, a small feather charm dangling from the cord. "It's a little big for your wrist, but you can put this in your pocket."

She looked down at her hands; no longer empty, she held the bracelet in her hands like it was the most precious thing in the world. She beamed brightly as she tucked the bracelet in her pocket as Jin told her, her earlier fears receding.

Opening his arms for a hug, your daughter melted in his embrace; their foreheads touching, a smile as bright as the sun adorned her angelic face.

Jin turned his face, his gaze catching yours. He mouthed your name, waving you over. With a smile, you joined your husband a daughter, wrapping your arms around your family.

i’m begging you to say more about the romance of scorch and your self-insert… i want to know the gossip

There was a keen rivalry between my self-insert Pounce the cat (the brunette everygirl)

and Mystic the unicorn, her blonde, popular-girl rival, played by my little sister

for the affections of Scorchie, the hot dragon of minimal brain but stout heart.

Look at him! Classic no thoughts head empty, but he’s tall and has shiny wings and curly hair* (*nubby fabric) and a cute smile. He could be fought over indefinitely because he had the memory span of a goldfish and the emotional backbone of a cloth beanbag, and so whoever was last hitting on him was who he was most into.

There were definitely elements of… racial or class conflict? I guess? because Pounce was very aware that Scorchie and Mystic were both magical creatures with iridescent details and she was merely a matte housecat. Mystic was Scorchie’s most natural partner, since at first we didn’t have Magic the dragon (the white dragon beanie) and then when we got her I vaguely remember that her neck was too weak and floppy to sustain the kind of head-tilt-based emoting we favored.

Despite her plain colors and non-magical nature, Pounce was determined to make Scorchie fall in love with her. This was either through force of personality (my real-life approach) or your standard children’s cartoon rom-com antics. I definitely remember she got a makeover to make her more shiny and thus more attractive to dragons. She could wear bracelets as necklaces and rings as bracelets or tiaras, and I almost certainly made her dresses out of scarves or tissues. She also lived in a chic two-story apartment (a portable foot-long bookshelf standing on one end).

Also I’m pretty sure she actually fought Mystic, but idk if this was like ���I manipulate your tiny bean arm’ or ‘full body slap beanbag on beanbag action’. Imagine whichever is funnier to you.

I have asked my sister what she remembers of this so perhaps there will be a part two!

High Noon Persephone -- Comte x MC; I could have tapped into horror there, it was a perfect opportunity. I did not. I still regret chickening out because of "what others may think".

A8. What was your first fandom? Are you still in that fandom now?

While my first exposure to fandom is Inuyasha, the first fandom that I contributed to was Naruto. I'm no longer in the fandom – I gave up on the series itself haha, but I still look back at NaruSasu with fondness.

B8. Is there a show or a book that you gave up on that you went back to later? Why did you come back to it?

I started Shantaram years back and then stopped for some reason. Last year I picked it up again because I heard that it's going to have a limited series. I wanted to watch it (though up till now I haven't started the show lol).

C8. What is one plot twist you wish people would stop using? 

I am a firm believer of any trope executed well can escape the reputation of being cliché, so I really don't have any peeve on any plot twist. But I do find the It Was A Dream All Along twist frustrating in a way that the narrative removes the repercussions from the characters and the plot.

D8. Which fandoms do you read fic for?

Ikemen series! Blue Lock even though I haven't read/watched it yet. Genshin Impact even if I don't play it lol. Once my workload lightens up I'll dive back headfirst in fandoms 😃

🍡 Which of your fics was the most emotionally difficult to write?

What Dreams May Come. It dealt with PTSD, survivor guilt, and depression, and even though I would categorize it as "angst with a happy ending," what I wanted to write when I started it was light comedy.

🍚 What genre do you have the toughest time writing?

AU in general, just because I end up getting caught up in world building and casting - I just try to do too much and put ever possible character in it, and then suddenly it's like 6000 words long and I haven't even gotten to the plot yet.

🍘 Is there a fic or idea for a fic that you've abandoned?

Um.... yes.... I got about 29 chapters into a Phantom of the Opera AU, (set in an ice rink) and pretty much ran into a brick wall. The fic might still be findable via the wayback machine, but otherwise, the evidence is long gone.

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you've written and explain why you're proud of it.

“Well when you find something you like, you should hold onto it.” “Then I’ll hold onto you.”

A conversation between Leon and Irene in chapter three of their story. I remember writing this when I was waiting at the doctor’s office. I’m proud of it because I thought it was pretty clever and it kinda just came out naturally on the spot. In my opinion, it’s a simple line that just makes you smile and it’s all fluffy and stuff.

13. What's the best writing advice you've ever come across?

Start. Even if it doesn’t use the prettiest or fanciest words, at least get your idea down. Remember, your goal is to share a story, not to see how many synonyms you can find of a word to make it sound more wordy and sophisticated. Worry about intricate details later. (But you can still write a good story using simple words.)

18. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

I keep everything in my head. I have majority of the scenes planned out and then I sit down to write on google docs and that’s pretty much it. I know I should write everything down, but it would take up too much time with the amount of information I have planned out. I just feel like if I’m going to write it down, I’d rather just write the actual story out.

Who do you think Clavis's favorite brother is?

Hello Anon, you'll have to forgive me for taking a few days to get back to you on this. You see, it is a question I never considered before, and now that I've toiled ruminated over it for far too many hours I believe it does not have a clear answer.

I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall some promotional materials for the game's release that were set up as interviews with the princes, and one of the questions that was asked was "Who is your favorite brother?" Obviously, I can't recall what Clavis said because I don't know if it even existed (if one of you peoples reading this has any idea of what I'm talking about, do let me know!!)

BUT you specifically asked who I think his favorite brother is, so I take that as permission to go free reign with some more superfluous soul searching. So zip up your jackets, friends!

While I do believe Clavis loves each of the princes (love may be a strong word, but this game gives us plenty of interpretations) I think he is closest to his older brothers. At the very least, we're told he interacts with them the most (before the events of the game and during) and it is with them he reveals his truest self/intentions... to a degree.

I'll go more into my lots for each below the cut because we'll have to dive into some pretty spoilery territory for Jin, Chevalier, Clavis, and Luke's routes. But if you want the tldr: My mind says Jin, but my heart says Chevalier.

Jin

Clavis seems to hang out with Jin by choice the most outside of work. They hit up the town as drinking buddies and... discuss their preferred topics freely. They share a penchant for doting on their yonger brothers. Clavis also admits early on in Jin's route that he's his "partner in crime" and that's pretty telling coming from the palace prankster. Clavis is never usually one to hold back on sharing his opinion, but when Jin is in the room they get to back each other up (or start a heated debate, it depends on the tides).

Looking further into Jin's route, Clavis not-so-subtly hints at Jin's association with Obsidian and his knowledge of it, claiming that makes them both not to be trusted. But even if he brands themselves as villains, he still makes a point to get involved with Jin's activities and (once again) back him up when he needs it. Jin has a tendency to be self sacrificing because he knows his value as the first prince and believes he cannot right the sins of his and his father's pasts otherwise, but Clavis is usually around to help steer his head back when he goes too far. Another example of this is in Luke's route for a similar reasoning.

At the end of Jin's romantic route, Belle deduces the reason Clavis interfered was because he was afraid of losing Jin, and even though Clavis denies it, we know what's up. (I haven't played the dramatic end, but considering Clavis was basically the crossroad at Chapter 20, I'm betting he's pretty important there, too).

So Clavis enjoys Jin's company and would rather it not end, right? Sounds like a favorite brother to me! Unfortunately, Jin ends up playing a very minimal role in Clavis's route (I was really surprised about this) which brings us to candidate number two...

Chevalier

"But Scorchie, you're all about textual evidence, and Clavis says multiple times that he hates Chevalier AND wants to kill him!"

You're not wrong, imaginary voice in my head, but I think it's safe to say that these princes aren't very good at being honest with themselves. And Clavis tells A LOT of lies, so in lieu of dissecting each and every time Clavis mentions Chevalier (which I would be more than happy to do, mind you it's getting close to dinnertime) let's start with his POV stories.

Clavis says before he met Chevalier he heard of the amazing feats he accomplished at a young age, so he was very excited to have such a brother. But, as we know Chevalier wasn't as... keen on returning his affection. But Clavis never gave up trying to get Chevalier to befriend him, because let's be honest who wouldn't want to be noticed by the genius born once every thousand years? Clavis's goal was to be a prince worthy enough to stand beside him. However, after their mothers' passings, Clavis felt he failed as a son and as a brother, so he shifted the blame onto the one person he felt deserved to be grieving as much as he. Thus, his hatred toward Chevalier was truly solidifed.

And you know the rest of the story, so I won't bother you with recounting it. Although, I will mention Chevalier's take on this. He mentions in Clavis's dramatic end that no matter what happens, no matter who comes and goes, that he will be there to catch his mistakes and rectify them. And we know Clavis knows this too, because he sent Cyran to deliver Belle to the border knowing Chevalier would be there waiting, and the encouragement Clavis displayed once Chevalier and Belle confronted Gilbert was just what he needed to get back on top.

And let's not forget Clavis's sideline cheerleader act through pretty much all of Chevalier's route. He says it was for his amusement to see Chevalier's happiness get ripped away, but we know what's up.

There is a ton more nuance going on deeper here, and I don't think Clavis would ever admit to anyone or himself that he likes Chevalier (he can't stand being in the same room as him sometimes), but at the very least I believe he would be very lost if Chevalier were to disappear. Can't get more ironic than that.

🌡- My favorite season is fall. I adore the color pallate, the smells and everything about fall. It is also the only time of the year I don't complain about the weather. 😂

📖 - My all-time favorite book is Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers. I found this when I was a teen and still come back to it on occasion. The whole series is absolutely amazing.

🌐 - I only speak English. But am interested in learning other languages, I just need to find the time to do so.

@gilbertvonobsidian - writer of Gilbert x OC fics - doesn't post often, but when he does, you're in for a treat. His most recent fic Connection is a great read.

@naresnani - @batteryrose writing side blog. Lots of really unique storylines in his fics. I really liked this one, a fic about Chevalier.

@scorchieart - a relative newcomer to the scene, Scorchie has an amazing body of work, really unique ideas - and if you like group interactions, this is the blog to follow. One of my favorites is Dual Perspectives, a fic about the Klein twins.

@jozhenji - multi-fandom writer, wrote this amazing Jin/Leon fic that you can read HERE (I'm not a huge Jin fan, but this fic just sent me places)

@leonscape - clearly a Leon/IkePri fan, this writer has posted some IkePri fics (if you're into that series) - I enjoyed this Gilbert fic.

@yarnnerdally another relatively new writer, I just happened to read THIS Clavis fic (what list is complete without Clavis?). Bonus - I believe she is still accepting requests for Kinktober.

Tumblr ate my ask part way through. 😥. I was going to ask if you if there was anything interesting about 76 lore since you are a big know-it-all with the new plauge.  I just assumed that those not ghouls would be intriguing.

There's a lot of interesting stuff in 76 (more than I used to give it credit for actually), but I personally haven't looked into it a lot yet. So far the main aspect that's piqued my interest is the scorched plague, which will surprise exactly no one here.

Sooo, I'm far from an expert on scorchy lore, but as far as I understand without resorting to the Wiki:

It spreads via scorchbeasts, which I believe are heavily mutated bats (?)

It causes the host's body to be overcome by green crystalline structures from the inside out, and eventually leads to the 'death' of the host's mind but continued 'life' of the body in a way not too unlike New Vegas's spore carriers

Eventually infected bodies will fully crystallise and become froxen in place

#tbh the main reason I don't play 76 more often is that I bought my current laptop in a panic when my old one conked mid-final uni project #so its specs are frankly awful #and 76 kills it off pretty quickly. I think the combination of online and hd graphics is too much #wish I could play it more because it's currently a treasure trove of undiscovered lore to me lol #thanks for the ask! #anon #also tumblr eats my asks semi regularly so dw about that!

34. Five years from now, where do you see yourself as a writer?

Hm, five years is a terribly long time. I don't really think about future this far away, as it's too unpredictable.

However, I can make a guess: I'll be just the usual me. I'll be trying out things that will seem hard, learning as I go, expanding my understanding of the language, and having fun while I'm at it.

35. What is one essential thing to remember when writing a villain? 

Hmm... I think it may be that they're also a person. They will operate as one -- their acts may be twisted, but there is a logic behind them. We all do the things we believe to be right, and we believe that for a reason -- "bad guys" are no different in that regard.

... If anything, the foundation on which they build their reasoning may be what is truly terrifying about them.
