Angel The Series. Obviously.

bless you for asking 🌹 i finished it yesterday and the opinions are Brewing

my favorite female character: Cordelia. I grew so, so very attached to her during my watch - I always liked her a lot, but I wasn't hugely invested in her in BTVS either. Here, though? Favorite. Which made season four and five all the more frustrating at times, especially given what we know of the behind the scenes stuff with CC and JW T_T. But yeah, I love Cordelia. She's a fun foil for a character like Angel, and her journey with the visions - and the fact that she didn't want to give them up - was really enjoyable for me

my favorite male character: At the risk of sounding obvious, Angel? I keep trying to articulate the why of it, and it comes down to just the fact that I just... like him. Wesley from season 3 on comes very close, but in general, I tend to root for Angel more. The biggest indicator of my liking for Angel was that the second Spike came onto the scene, I was hissing like a cat like "ok vampire with a soul is ANGEL'S THING"

my favorite book/season/etc: I find it hard to choose between 2 and 3 atm. 2 had Angel's little dark spiral, which I found very fun, and season 3 had the whole "the father kills the son" arc, which was the most invested I ever was in this show

my favorite episode (if its a tv show): season 5 is fresher in my mind, so I'm going to say episode 12 of season 5, because that one has Cordelia in it - and is, thankfully, a nice send-off for her, though I'll forever be bitter she couldn't be around for the whole season (It might have made me less resentful of Spike's general presence, tho I did enjoy him regardless)

my favorite cast member: Idk much about them as people, but I'm going to say Alexis Denisof kILLED as unshaven miserable Wesley, and I was very impressed with him

my favorite ship: I hesitate between Angel x Cordelia and Wesley x Lilah. Angel x Cordy took me by surprise - I'm a diehard Bangel, and before watching ATS, the knowledge that Angel x Cordy became a thing made me a hater already. But I was surprised by how their friendship grew, and the Ship was Awakened in me when Angel was obviously deeply upset that Cordelia was still mad at him in season 2. That being said, I also think I'd have been satisfied with Angel x Cordy without the romantic element, as long as they kept the close friends/warriors for good aspect. It's the kind of ship that I feel could stay friends (unlike, say, Bangel, to refer to Spike's little 'You'll never be friends' speech", which I know you're familiar with xD), and I do like my ships with a bit more bite, no pun intended. And Wesley x Lilah was a fucking delight. Didn't see it coming, enjoyed every second of it, right down to the corpse head chopping. OH, I also enjoyed Lindsey x Darla for what it was. Lindsey in general was a fav of mine - he's just neat!

a character I’d die defending: Mmmm. No answer springs to mind, but I will say, I found myself kind of protective of Harmony in season 5 - I know she's a soulless little demon, but like, be nice to her (the fact that Spike was so dismissive of her got under my skin like BRO where's that soul of yours now)

a character I just can’t sympathize with: I desperately want to say Andrew, but we barely saw him, and that's mostly my BTVS feelings bleeding over. I'm sure there are answers among the villains, but nobody comes to mind.

a character I grew to love: Definitely Wesley. I was never too keen on him, but then, gosh. His dark side is just FASCINATING and I love him to bits.

my anti otp: unfortunately i can't say sp*ffy for ATS xD but otherwise, i don't think there's any ship on Angel I outright hate. Though Connor x Cordelia was definitely unpleasant, I don't really count it as a ship. I guess.... Angel x Nina didn't do much for me? But we barely saw them together, so, it's hard to muster any anti otp hatred. Fred x Wesley didn't do much for me (I always side-eyed them because from the start, I was convinced it would mean nothing good for Gunn), but without Fred x Wesley, you don't get Wesley x Illyria, which was the highlight of my late season 5 viewing 💙

While Dew was indeed summoned at the time, he was back at the church with Copia (and Mountain) during the events of Comfort From a Cage.

Within the 'verse that fic is set in, Aether, Dew, and Swiss were all summoned at the same time due to a bit of a mishap with their Ritual. It worked out, ultimately, with Aether taking up Omega's vacancy and Swiss lurking about and growing into adding a new dynamic; but, since Terzo already had Mist, at the time, Dew stayed behind and was being trained as a backup bassist, if the need arose :3

1. How many books did you read this year?

32! Considering that my original goal was 12, that’s pretty impressive.

15 & 17 answered! 

33. Did you DNF anything? 

Oh yeah. I really wanted to like Gideon the Ninth but somehow bounced off it, maybe because I’d just finished a very grounded literary fiction novel and in comparison the worldbuilding was ... A Lot. I’ll probably give it another try. Play it as it Lays by Joan Didion was kind of a depressing drag I might just not come back to. I’ve liked other books by her though. 

There were also a couple books I basically never even started properly. I have a hard time finding poetry in my library somehow, saw a tome of Bukowski’s (just knew that he seems worth reading and I did like Ham on Rye as a teen) and took it home, only to open it on “legs”. Yikes. Yeah no. 

I’ve also always wanted to read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Now that I finally had the chance I unfortunately already have been reading quite a bit of YA and while some of it was good, I’m also just. So tired of it. So I opened that book, read the description of someone getting ready for high school and closed it again lol

Okay so I caved and checked out Feather and Flame today at my local library, and 11 chapters in, I say it’s good so far. Downside is that for some reason I feel like Mulan and Shang’s dialogue doesn’t fit them as much compared to Reflection

I would agree. Reflection was much better imo(also I wish feather&flame had had mushu because can you imagine?his reaction to mulan being named empress?)

55. do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?

RIP TO MY MIDNIGHT MASS HASSAN X READER FIC 👻! There's a few, sadly, but that's the first that came to mind. I might return to it if I ever do a re-watch of MM or when House of Usher comes out. I just simply lost inspiration for that fic/got distracted by other projects.

I also have a critical role/widojest fic. I stopped watching Critical Role and again, inspiration just went into the garbage, I felt 0% motivation to continue it.

64. what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve read?

"Catching bullets in our teeth" (it was a clintasha marvel fic. I loved the vibe.)

77. how do you write kissing scenes?

Not gonna lie, I've googled "how to write kissing scenes" and then referred to various articles while typing out the scene, seeing where it needs changes/adjustments. Sometimes I get caught inside my head about what everyone's body parts are doing and it gets clunky.

Overall, kissing is simple. It's more about the feelings, the thoughts, the attitudes and desires of the characters. I think more about the ~vibe~ of the kiss -- is it a desperate kiss? a slow one? tender? What were the characters thinking or doing before they smooched? Has this kiss been something that's been building for eons or is it a fleeting, comforting kiss?

Then, you just lay on the metaphors or similes. Notice the difference between this two scenes off the top of my head:

She kissed him. Their lips met in joyous union with a soft exclamation of surprise. (This isn't from a fic, I just typed this quickly).

versus:

“Is this okay?” Her words and her breath tremble against his lips. There is time to pull away, to step back, to rearrange the molecules of their friendship and turn away from this natural, albeit powerful chemistry. The sting of rejection would burn, but it would be nothing compared to losing him completely.

His warm, calloused palm cups the nape of her neck. “Yes…”

His eyes widen slightly, and she hears his brief, surprised gasp before - without a modicum of hesitation -  she slants her mouth over his. His kiss wasn’t a firework. It was soft, it was gentle, it was heartbreakingly tender. It was like sand running through your fingertips, like a brush of sunlight warming your cheek with gentle heat, like stepping into your lush, vibrant home after running through a snowstorm. (source) ~ yes, it's one of my fics.

The second example shows the anticipation (trembling), desires versus expectations, sensory input (eyes, hands, breath), there's a sense of surprise and urgency, a build up and release also there's some sexy consent and we love that.

SO YEAH. That's how I write kissing scenes. I think about the characters history (personal and their history with each other) and then I sprinkle in some poetic language to convey the romance or whatever emotion I'm going for in the scene.

at first i was like 'yeah sure okay' and then i rewatched the series and i was like 'oh my god this is SO MUCH A THING' its really really something. i cant believe i ship it as much as i do.

i mean i guess i shouldnt be surprised considering its at the core just medical sherlock and we all know that dynamic has been like, academically dissected etc etc i want to talk to the writers of this show.

We need to remember that Shubble stated that Wilbur would manipulate and gaslight friends and family. With this, we must be patient with streamers that were close to Wilbur. This was likely surprising and shocking for them. They may need time to come to terms with what has happened.

I have been vocal about how important it is for men to be critical about abusive behaviors. However, Wilbur had many close friends—some would even consider him family—and now they may feel they hardly knew him at all.

There is a deep stress felt by viewers. It is difficult to think we have given any amount of time or money to an abuser. Could you imagine a close friend right now? The pain and betrayal must sear. They need time to understand what has happened and come to terms with it. Many of them may not be live in the coming days (weeks even).

That being said, as time passes, criticism may be necessary. Complacency is not an option. Men that are willing to ignore abuse to protect an abuser are just as pathetic as the abusers themselves.

Let's give this situation time to breathe. I ask that we give patience and courtesy to those close to Wilbur at this time. But please do not forget that this happened. There may be a few streamers hoping to lay low and then drop a collab in a few months. Do not let them. This is too important.

Is the Feather and Flame book worth reading? The only other Disney AU book of Mulan I’ve read was Reflection from the Twisted Tales series and I thought it was good.

oh yeah reflection was so amazing i've read that twice now. as for feather & flame well it depends if you're really into the mulan/shang love story i'd say yes. but if like me you were hoping for something similar to actual mulan where she saves the day pretty much herself then no not really. the first book in the series Feather & Flame is part of was much better.
