T-Shirt- Eddie Munson x OC
Eddie Munson x Misty Hawthorne
Description: Eddie is having trouble figuring out a design for the Hellfire Club’s t-shirts. Luckily he has an artistic girlfriend to help him.
Word Count: 2.3k
“I don’t know what to do,” Eddie groaned, slumping back in his chair, which prompted Misty to shoot him a sympathetic smile.
These past few weeks had been quite stressful for Eddie, things just seemed to keep stacking on each other. First of all, his grades. He was barely passing almost all of his classes, and the only one he wasn’t barely passing was English because he was failing it. In his defense, teachers always seemed to hand out more homework and projects near the end of senior year. Maybe it was just one last hurrah at getting the students to suffer before they finally escaped, which was not helping Eddie’s case.
His grades were technically the least of his concerns (according to him), but it was because of the next reason that he was having trouble with them. He was super busy planning on how to end his campaign. It was something he’d been stressed about since he started planning it because he couldn’t decide what the final boss would be. The fact that he had a ton of homework as the end of the year grew closer was not helping his case.
Finally, there was the thing that stressed him out most: t-shirts. That may sound weird, but it sounds much more sane with contect. You see, yearbook photos were coming up, any day as a matter of fact. And yearbook photos meant that the different clubs of Hawkins High had to take a picture to remember them by. The Dungeons and Dragons club was a part of that list, and Eddie had taken it upon himself to decide that they needed t-shirts to wear for the picture. The problem? He had no idea what to do for the shirt’s design.
All of these problems he had vented to Misty in great detail as they sat alone at a table during lunch as a way to alleviate this stress. Normally he sat with his club members, but one of his problems involved the campaign. He wasn’t about to tell them his master plan (or lack thereof) because that would ruin the element of surprise and fun in their sessions.
Misty, as shameful as it was, was only half listening to her boyfriend. After all, he wasn’t the only one who had a lot of schoolwork to do. As she listened to him rant, she worked on a project for her art class. The assignment was to create their favorite flower(s) in any medium they chose. Misty opted for a bouquet filled with dahlias, ranunculus, roses, sweet peas, and astilbe. Naturally, she went for a painting, but she wanted to at least get a rough sketch of it before she put a brush to her sketchbook.
At some point though, her attention slowly slipped away from her boyfriend as she became more focused on getting the details of the dahlias down. His words faded from her ears as she worked on the many petals of the flower until it was obvious that she was no longer paying attention. Eddie wasn’t any better. He was so focused on his rant that he hadn’t even realized that his girlfriend was no longer listening until he asked her opinion.
“What do you think, babe?” He questioned, pushing his chair back so it balanced on its hind legs idly. When he received no response from the girl he finally looked at her.
“Babe?” He repeated curiously. When Misty still hadn’t answered he snapped his fingers twice, which finally caught her attention. She looked at him with slightly wide eyes as she set her pencil down.
“Hmm? What’s up?” A small laugh escaped Eddie’s lips as he shook his head, but he had no time to say anything before his eyes landed on her sketchpad, which lay on the table with a gorgeous bouquet drawn on its open page.
“Whoa, did you just draw this?” He asked with wide eyes, snatching the sketchbook before she could even think about grabbing it.
“Well, it’s not like I just printed it,” she retorted with a small laugh, giving up any hope that she would get it back before he was done looking at it.
“Baby this is amazing,” Eddie all but yelled, which made her shake her head amusedly.
“It’s not finished, I still need to paint it,” Misty explained, finally retrieving her book back afterwards. Eddie didn’t reply, too lost in thought as he stared at the table in front of them. She could practically see the cogs turning in his head, and she was almost afraid to ask what he was thinking. Finally after a few minutes he looked at her.
“Oh sweetest and most beautiful-est girlfriend in the world?” He called in the sweetest voice he could muster, pulling out his puppy dog eyes and boyish grin combo. Misty rolled her eyes as she began packing up her things, having realized that lunch was almost over.
“What do you want, Eds?” She retorted in a flat tone.
“Would you be oh so kind enough to design the t-shirts for the Hellfire Club?” He asked, leaning closer to her. That made the girl stop what she was doing and look at him, surprise evident on her face.
“I…Eddie, I only really do free form art,” she stammered. “I’ve never done designs or anything like that.”
“Then this’ll be good practice,” the boy pointed out, tone bordering on desperation as he stood from his chair, instead choosing to just lean over her with one hand supporting him on the table. The girl considered his point, then hesitated.
“I don’t know Eddie…”
“Come on Misty, I’ll give you anything you want,” he begged. “I’ll buy you all the cherry candy in Hawkins, or I can have everyone pay for a shirt. Don’t make me get on my knees and beg.” That made Misty laugh, and she found herself thinking over his words. She had been looking for a way to get some extra money. This may be good business. That thought is what made her finally nod.
“The candy thing isn’t necessary, but I’ll take the payment,” she responded. An elated smile appeared on Eddie’s face almost instantly. He pressed a wet and sloppy kiss to her cheek before standing up again.
“You’re the best babe,” he called, already jogging over to his friends as the bell rang, signaling that lunch had ended. Misty could only laugh and shake her head at him before standing up.
It took Misty quite a while to come up with a design. It had to be school appropriate, which was rather difficult considering the club was literally called the “Hellfire Club.” It wasn’t often that she became irritated with her boyfriend’s creativity, but it seemed that this would be one of the few times as she had to figure out how to get around the rules. Eddie decided that he and the others wanted to be surprised by the final product, so she had some leeway with the design process.
She went through many design iterations before finally settling on one. Her excitement increased when she double checked the dress code rules and realized that she’d successfully made a design that still abided by them. With that out of the way, all she had to do was get the guys’ sizes and get them printed on some shirts. It didn’t take her long to find a printing place that would allow her to print the designs on t-shirts for relatively cheap. So, after getting the guys’ sizes and payment she made her way back to the shop and got to work.
It seemed that she’d finished them in the nick of time because the very day that she was supposed to pick up her order, Eddie informed her that their yearbook picture would be taken after school at 3:00. That meant that she had to rush out after the final bell, get to the shop, grab the shirts and pay for them, then get back to the school in time for the guys to have their picture taken in them.
She was honestly surprised that she’d made it back in time considering she also took the time to change into the shirt she had made for herself before heading back. Nevertheless, she walked into the building that the Hellfire Club used with a bag containing a neat pile of black and white raglan shirts in her hands and a smile on her face.
She walked inside the designated room, where the club members were sitting and talking amongst themselves. All of their heads snapped to her when they heard the door open, and in an instant they were out of their seats and crowding around her talking over each other. Misty very quickly became overwhelmed with the sudden attention, but she had no time to say anything before Eddie spoke.
“Guys,” he yelled from his seat, apparently having been the only one who remained in his seat. His exclamation caught the group’s attention, and he stood from his seat and held out his arms.
“How about we all sit down and let the lady present the shirts instead of stampeding her, huh?” It was in question form, but everyone knew it was an order. Since the club basically viewed him as a deity they did as he said and sat back down.
“Thank you Eddie,” Misty said pointedly as she followed them to the table. She set the bag of shirts on the table, smacking Mike’s hand away when he attempted to reach for it before unzipping her jacket.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present to you,” she paused for dramatic effect before flinging open her jacket, revealing the design. “Your new club uniform.”
Gasps were heard all around and all eyes turned to Eddie for his opinion. The boy stared at her, examining her. He didn’t say anything for a minute, which began to worry Misty. Did he have a different design in mind that he was hoping would translate to her? The silence was killing her, and the room was tense. Finally, Eddie slowly stood up and walked over to her at the same speed. Once he was in arm’s reach, he stopped. He and Misty had a small staredown, then an almost comically wide smile finally appeared on his face.
“Badass, babe. They’re amazing,” he said with an affirming nod. With his approval everyone began talking over each other once again, though this time it was praises for her instead of impatient ranting. A small laugh escaped Misty’s lips as she took off her jacket and draped it over Dustin’s chair so they could see the full thing.
“Alright guys, find your sizes and go change. I’m sure the photographer will be here any minute,” she instructed, much happier now. The group stood in unison and dug into the jacket, quickly finding their sizes before walking out to the nearest bathroom. That left only Eddie and Misty in the room watching after them amusedly. Once the door closed Misty faced her boyfriend, only to be met with his lips on hers. Though surprised at first, she quickly reciprocated the kiss as her arms went around his neck. After pulling away, Eddie had a toothy grin on his face.
“Seriously babe, the shirts are amazing. I knew you could do it,” he muttered sincerely, wrapping his arms around her waist comfortably.
“Well, I’m glad you like them,” she responded, copying his smile. They just stood in each other’s arms for a few minutes before Misty glanced at the time.
“You should probably go get changed,” she muttered, hesitantly pulling away from him. The boy nodded and grabbed his shirt, but just before he walked out he paused and turned to her.
“Oh, by the way, I know you said that the candy wasn’t necessary, but…” he trailed off, pulling something out of his pocket. It was a cherry Jolly Rancher. Misty couldn’t help but laugh as he unwrapped it and held it up for her, then allowed him to feed it to her.
“There’s more where that came from,” he muttered with a wink before finally walking out, leaving her standing there with the candy in her mouth and a smile on her face. It didn’t take her long to gather her things, but by the time she was walking out of the room the school’s photographers were already posing the guys in front of the school’s logo that had been painted in the hallway. Her smile returned as she watched the process, and it didn’t take Mike long to notice her.
“Hey Misty, get over here,” he called with a grin, waving her over. Misty was surprised by his request.
“I’m not in the Hellfire Club,” she pointed out.
“You might as well be,” Gareth responded.
“Yeah, you made the shirts and you alway help set up sessions,” Eddie ultimately added with a boyish grin before gesturing to her to come closer. “Now get your cute butt over here and take a picture with us.” Misty rolled her eyes but complied nevertheless, moving to stand between her boyfriend and Dustin after setting her stuff down.
The girl she recognized in the yearbook committee as Tanya told them to pose how they liked as they prepared to take the picture. Everyone sort of did their own thing, but Eddie decided to throw an arm around Misty’s shoulders and pull her closer to him. Misty opted to just lean against him while resting her elbow on Dustin’s shoulder as everyone smiled. Tanya counted down from three then took the picture. Just before the camera flashed Misty suddenly stuck her tongue out like the devil on her shirt, displaying her now red tongue. That would certainly make the photo more memorable.

Witch’s Herbal Entry: Astilbe
Astilbe x arendsii
Tumblr media
Common Names: Astilbe, False Spirea, False Goat’s Beard, Meadowsweet
Type: Perennial
Element: Air (?)
Astrological: Venus
Magical Uses: patience, dedication, truth
Botanical Family: Saxifragaceae
Region of Origin: East Asia, often hybridized with North American A. biternata
Astilbe comes from a mix of Latin and Greek, meaning “without shining.” The Greek stilbos or stilbein means to glitter or shine, and this is believed to refer to the matte appearance of the plant, though many cultivars do in fact have glossy leaves as well.
Tumblr media
(The astilbe in my garden were just planted this year [May 2018]! They are still quite small and haven’t gotten their flowers yet. Below are photos of my astilbe, the first a couple of days after getting into the soil, the next from this morning. :) I hope to update this entry later in the year with more original photos when they start looking more impressive. Here is a link to Gardenia’s page all about the cultivar I selected to grow. I purchased my astilbe as bare root plants this spring from K. van Bourgondien. I had a really good experience with them, everything seems to be thriving so far. Above is a royalty-free piece of clip art I found and the image from German Wikipedia’s entry for A. chinensis in the process of blooming, which is commonly one of the parent species of A. x arendsii. It was taken at the Botanical Garden Berlin-Dahlem and is used under the Creative Commons License.)
Tumblr media
Growth and Care
I found astilbe difficult to classify when considering its ‘native’ or ‘imported’ status--the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of astilbe available for purchase today are in fact hybrids. By far the most popular bunch are what are called the Arendsii Group, named after German botanist George Arends, so the taxonomic name for a high percentage of the astilbe you’ll find available for purchase in the US will be some variety of A. x arendsii. (Commonly known as false goat’s beard, A. biternata is the only member of the genus truly native to North America, with the rest coming from East Asia.)
Astilbe are a great choice for the contemporary garden that are low maintenance and can thrive in the shade. The flowers arise in plumes, some varieties spiky and others with a more fluffy appearance in shades of pink, white and red and rarely, purple. It has a fairly long bloom time, starting in spring and continuing on into the summer. Most astilbe favor at least part shade but will tolerate full sun, and are cold hardy from zones 4-8. If you live in a particularly hot, dry area though, you may want to err on the side of shade, or at least make sure the bed is well mulched and regularly watered. Opt for spots with rich, slightly moist soil, but don’t be too fussed about working it very deeply because astilbe will tolerate a wide range of soil types.
While astilbe seeds are available, they can be difficult to germinate and have a short shelf life--the texture of them is so fine that it’s like dust. In this case, your better bet is to purchase a plant or get some when another gardener decides to divide theirs--a task that should be done every 4-5 years. Planting in either spring or fall is fine, but the summer may be too hot for a transplanted astilbe to really get itself settled in and flourish. There are no major illnesses or hazards to note--some animals may chew on very young foliage, but once they have matured, are usually trouble-free.
General Use
There is some indication that the leaves and shoots of the Asiatic varieties like A. thunbergii and A. chinensis may be edible when young or made into a tea. Apart from this, astilbe seem to be limited to an ornamental best placed in borders and shade beds.
Tumblr media
Magical and Symbolic Use
Astilbe makes an appearance in English floriography by way of wordplay--it connotes patience and dedication in love, the message, “I’ll still be waiting.” A-stil-be. The pinks and reds and their soft, fluffy appearance make astilbe a great inclusion where romance is concerned.
Few flowers are capable of brightening up a dark corner of the garden like astilbe, and so it may be a useful tool in shedding light to a situation where you feel the truth is being obscured.
If you enjoyed this entry, feel free to add the information to your personal grimoire/book of shadows/what-have-you! I’ve done similar entries in the past, with Periwinkle and Ground Ivy being probably as fully rendered as this entry, but the others a little sparse and to be updated in the future. If there’s a specific plant you’d like to see get this same research treatment, let me know!
Other entries in this series:
Azalea
Bee Balm
Black-Eyed Susan
Blazing Star
Bleeding Hearts
Forsythia
Garlic Mustard
Ground Ivy/Creeping Charlie
Periwinkle/Vinca
Purple Dead Nettle

THE PROPOSAL
Tumblr media
Aaron: 3 years prior I saw Anni strolling in the city while going by the café of my companion Michele. Same story each morning! I advised my companion that we have to figure out how to converse with her. I was resolved that she was the lady I will wed one day. Obviously we figured out how to contact her. As Anni was hurrying each day to work, we halted her, by holding a cappuccino (like the manner in which you serve water to sprinters at a long distance race). She got it and said that she will return to pay for it, amid her meal break.
Obviously who spend his entire evening sitting tight for Anni to return and she did. after 2,5 years I proposed to her on Easter Sunday. THE PLANNING PROCESS
Tumblr media
Since we had just a half year left for the whole arranging procedure we realized we required direction en route. It’s difficult to design a wedding abroad and hardest in such a brief span. That is the reason we will be always thankful to Inspired Moments. There was such a decent association between us, Anneta is a mind blowing wedding organizer and an overly flawless soul. We could completely believe her and she was continually tuning in to what we were imagining and raising far better proposals that we really adored. She acquainted us with the best wedding experts and give us an exceptionally close thought of what our wedding will closely resemble, along these lines was anything but difficult to imagine our day and choose the best fit to our identity and spending plan. We made a trip to Kavala 10 weeks before our wedding to encounter all wedding arranging practices: From hair and make-up preliminaries, sustenance tasting, flower and stylistic layout testing to the littlest subtleties. After that we felt exceptionally certain that everything will be completely ideal for our big day. We returned to Kavala right around seven days before the wedding and gratitude to great association and arranging we had the situation taken care of and we were sufficiently fortunate to make the most of our days with family and companions precisely as we needed it.

THE DETAILS and DÉCOR
Tumblr media
We chose our fundamental wedding shading to be become flushed, we needed normally exquisite hues and material. Our wedding solicitations were fixed with silk become flushed lace and ivory wax dependent on the shading plan and was the primary thing to grasp envisioning our taste, insignificant yet fine looking. We adored all the little subtleties in design: the little wooden signs we made for the wedding function and setting, the vellum paper placecards, the support box fixed with strip and wax, the wreath seating show, the children table with painting units, our seat botanical festoons and the craftsmanship de la table components.

THE READINGS and MUSIC
Tumblr media
The function was determined to the shoreline with a lovely curve disregarding the ocean. Our visitors were situated for the shoreline function and keeping in mind that they were sitting tight for Anni to land by pontoon, they were tuning in to established artful culminations by a violin player. We organized the service hour on dusk time so as to be additional mysterious. Trading promises under the redden shading sky. It was an exceptionally enthusiastic minute for the two of us and we are amazingly cheerful that we made it by our family and closest companions.

BRIDESMAIDS
The bridesmaids have chosen to pick light pink and become flushed hues for their outfits to oblige shading plan of the wedding.
Excellence
I needed a basic haircut with shoreline waves and a sentimental botanical wreath.
Giannis from Jean Pierre Haute Coiffure is such a capable beautician, we’ve just attempted one haircut and I knew this was it.
Toward the starting I figured I will do my own make-up in light of the fact that I’ve had a few preliminaries for different events and have never enjoyed it. It was our wedding organizer that persuaded me to have something like one preliminary and proposed Chrysa an incredibly skilled make up craftsman and obviously I ’ve altered my opinion. Chrysa made a characteristic yet rich make-up, I really cherished and felt delightful.

When we settled our choice to get hitched in Greece, the possibility of a blue line suit promptly rung a bell. I needed the suit to be light and agreeable.
After a smidgen of research I found a brand called SUITSUPPLY where you can tweak and structure your own one of a kind wedding suit.
I realized I needed a light, easy complimenting dress to oblige the shoreline scene.
I set up a few arrangements at nearby marriage shops yet couldn’t discover what I was searching for. I requested a mermaid dress which I didn’t love and when it arrived it was in a wrong size and wasn’t fitting in any way.
Perhaps it was intended to be, on the grounds that that was exactly when I ran over the Grace Loves Lace Tara outfit. I requested it on the web and when it arrived I realized it immediately this was the one.

We were both longing for a shoreline service with a delightful curve by the ocean and our visitors sitting with their toes in the sand.
Us that our wedding will be about positive vibes, fun and having a ball.

THE PLANNING PROCESS
Since we had just a half year left for the whole arranging procedure we realized we required direction en route. It's difficult to design a wedding abroad and hardest in such a brief span.

THE FLOWERS
Every single decorative layout consolidated redden roses, white hydrangeas and green eucalyptus. I adored my bunch and our highlights with tall decorative designs and our charming seating show with greenery wreaths. The bridesmaids wore green filler's wrist corsages and my botanical headpiece was produced using wax blossom and green filler's.

THE DETAILS and DÉCOR

Giannis from Jean Pierre Haute Coiffure is such a capable beautician, we've just attempted one haircut and I knew this was it.
Toward the starting I figured I will do my own make-up in light of the fact that I've had a few preliminaries for different events and have never enjoyed it. It was our wedding organizer that persuaded me to have something like one preliminary and proposed Chrysa an incredibly skilled make up craftsman and obviously I 've altered my opinion.

I set up a few arrangements at nearby marriage shops yet couldn't discover what I was searching for. I requested a mermaid dress which I didn't love and when it arrived it was in a wrong size and wasn't fitting in any way.
Perhaps it was intended to be, on the grounds that that was exactly when I ran over the Grace Loves Lace Tara outfit. I requested it on the web and when it arrived I realized it immediately this was the one.

Bouquet Breakdown: Mauve + Lavender Textural Blooms
Now that we’ve fully immersed ourselves into the beauty of this morning’s inspiration shoot photographed by Jeanni Dunagan, it’s time to take it one step further. We’re breaking down the bouquet that left us speechless – one bloom at a time. Laura’s Floras is delving into details of her bouquet work of art, and you can snag a few pointers to get the look for yourself.
From Laura’s Floras… I find it is so important to draw inspiration for each bouquet from the bride’s dress. This bride’s lacy Claire Pettibone dress begged to be paired with soft, textural florals. Mauve and lavender hellebore and the adorable checkered hellebore brought a touch of color to the floral design, with the purple color adding to the regal feel of the shoot. The cappuccino garden roses were used to help with the color transition between the white blooms and the mauve and lavender flowers. I also chose them because their color goes so beautifully with the sandy tones of the venue.

Beach Elopement with Boho Wedding Dress & Sweetheart Table added to Google Docs
Beach Elopement with Boho Wedding Dress & Sweetheart Table
This boho beach elopement proves your ceremony can be as intimate and minimalistic as you’d like or as extravagant and fun as you’d like. Stylist SenStyle has shown us how a few key floral arrangements can make your day with an epic flower crown, bouquet and ankle corsage. As well as a way of extending the nuptials with a picnic, complete with sweetheart table, a whiskey bar and of course cake!
VISION
Bohemian inspiration at the beach and an ancient Greek castle with colourful flowers and decor.
                         INSPIRATION & STYLING
“When it came to choosing the colours, we instinctively chose the navy & the dusty blue of the sea, combined with the green of the olive groves, the stone-grey of the castle walls, but also the beauty of the burgundy mansion which would stand out and intensify our palette. Our main goal as “SenSyle Events” was to affiliate the aura and translate the architecture of the ancient castle walls reaching the sea. We achieved that by using only natural materials that match the landscape and by designing outstanding flower arrangements using hydrangeas, roses, tulips, delphinium, Muscari, Hingham, astilbe, doggy, ashram, pampas grass, myositis and Pinophyta. One perfectly well created Apse, a floral piece of art by “Comme ça – Fleurs décor”, was set up on the beach and near the waves of the Mediterranean sea. Like the Castle of Aigosthenon, the apse loomed imposingly from the ground urging your thoughts to the past while watching the dreamy flower movements.” – Sen Style
SWEETHEART TABLE
“The styled shoot was framed with two more sets, from “SenSyle Events”, the sweetheart table and the coffee & whiskey bar! Both were designed based on the location but also as a new proposition, beyond the classic candy bars. The Coffee & whiskey bar was placed at a marvellous sculptured spot where the sea had spilt the soil and created a natural cave consisting of the roots of the shrubs alone. Instead of tables, authentic vintage chests were used that brought their story back from the past and became our two separate lounge stools. One with the Nespresso machines and accompanying items such as cupcakes, cake pops, along with a naked cake, minimalist-ically embellished with pomegranate, and a three-tier blue coloured cake in wavy texture, to match the seascape. To achieve harmony with the natural elements, the sweetheart table was set on wooden pallets. We envisioned the couple enjoying a rich meal next to the sounds of the sea. The crockery in blue and blue colours, combined with aged gold cutlery that has the natural wear of time, with polyhedron jars, filled with greenery and traditional old oil lamps of various designs and sizes.” – Sen Style
Beach Elopement
Hands up who loves going to the beach? (I do, I do, I do!) Just close your eyes and imagine saying your vows there… dreamy eh?! Well, actually, open your eyes and take a look at how SenStyle and team have shown you how it can be done. Not only have they included the shoreline ceremony, with impressive wooden branch and dried grass floral arrangement, but they have also shown you how to have an intimate picnic for two with wooden pallets, sweet treats and a beverage of your choice. All whilst looking incredible I might add.
BRIDAL FASHION
“The protagonist of our dreamy scene, our bride, wore a romantic handmade wedding dress with crocheted embellishments from the Hellenic Vintage collection by “Atelier Zolotas”. The style and the fabrics of the wedding dress inspired us to use crocheted macramé, made by “Bohochoco” to photograph the couple as a suggestion next to the seating chart of their guests, but also as a backdrop placed in a mansion of olive trees! The brilliant bride wreath and bouquet by “Comme ça – Fleurs décor” fit perfectly with the little chapel’s wooden door in deep red-brown colour. For the imposing wreath, the cymbidium orchid was chosen to illuminate and highlight our bride’s beauty. Pansy, delphinium, meridian, tulips and roses added a natural and highly feminine approach to her look, giving the more “boho style” we wanted. A flower corsage embraced the bride’s foot and gave the final touch.” – Sen Style
DECOR & DETAILS
“It is often the small yet innovative and passionate details that can make the difference. All of the written elements on our set were entirely made by hand. By using the calligraphic and illustrational expertise of “Ambletters”, every word and every image was painted directly on the different items by hand, making them unique in the most literal sense. The couple’s vows were written directly on linen towels and on the handmade menu cards and were specifically placed to create a stylish minimalist table! Invitations, save the date- table- and rsvp- cards, stone place holders and much more were all handmade, hand-painted and handwritten. Even the plexiglass boards, part of a more modern side, were handwritten in order to avoid ready-made prints entirely. “Pimpinella Project” provided us with the beautiful stone place holders, the unique hand-cut vintage papery, linen towels and all of the materials needed to make the words stand out.” – Sen Style
If you’re a boho beach babe at heart and are thinking of saying your vows by the ocean, take a look at our round-up of beach weddings, there is everything from simple ceremonies by the shore to elegant events by the water’s edge.

Pots of late summer brilliance
Extend the summer’s colour to the first winter frosts, says Ruth
A carefully planted container will last well into autumn
Containers are an easy and manageable way of extending colour beyond summer and into the autumn, right up to the first frosts if you’re lucky.
I’ve planted up a late summer pot of flame-coloured perennials with some interesting foliage plants for extra oomph.
I selected a ‘Bishops Children’ dahlia as my central plant as it will look stunning with its combination of bronze leaves and tall stems bearing single blooms in shades of red.
The fiery tones of a ‘Bishops Children’ dahlia
I also added an Astilbe ‘Astary White’, which has beautiful frond-like leaves and white plumes of flowers, a begonia salvaged from last year’s hanging basket (waste notant not!), ‘Taisan Mixed’ marigolds and mixed rudbeckia.
I filled in the gaps with a trailing variegated ivy and a stunning silver Calocephalus,a hardy plant that almost looks like a form of deep sea coral.
amateurgardening.com/blog
My plan is that these will keep the colour and interest coming right through the rest of the summer and well into autumn. Then most of the plants can be lifted and either overwintered undercover or planted out, freeing up the pot for whatever comes next.
Because the pot had already been used I gave it a good scrub first with a weak disinfectant solution to remove any lingering pests or diseases.
Wash pots before use if they have been planted up before
I used proprietary container mix for the planting as this has added nutrients and improved water-retaining properties. However, multipurpose is fine if that’s all you’ve got, just remember to add some water-retaining granules before planting as they will help keep the compost damp and reduce the amount of watering needed.
While containers are easy to create, their aftercare can seem a bit of a faff, but believe me, it’s worth it! It only takes a couple of minutes of care every other day to keep your pots looking glorious right through the season.
TRart vine weevils with a nematode or carefully applied chemical drench
The ones to keep in mind the most are baskets and anything standing in a rain shadow, hanging under the eaves of the house or out of the prevailing wind. These will be sheltered from the worst of the weather when it happens, which is good, but it also means they won’t have easy access to rain.
Because of the dense planting they contain, pots and baskets dry out quickly so sheltered ones need to be checked every day. Just stick your finger in the compost up to the first knuckle and if it feels dry, add water.
Rudbeckias add sparky late-summer colour to the pot
On the other hand, baskets that are hanging facing the prevailing wind are vulnerable to an almighty battering when storms are forecast so it is worth taking them down and popping them on a large pot or bucket undercover until the weather blows itself out.
Not all containers have to be a complicated collection of plant and colours. Vibrant plants such as lilies, dahlias and fuchsias are fabulous statement plants and will happily hold their own singly in an attractive container.
Use proprietary container compost that has added nutrients and holds water well
Fuchsias and dahlias are an especially good buy at this time of year as they will flower well into autumn and can be overwintered (I nursed a non-hardy fuchsia through last winter and it’s flowering fantastically now) and returned outside next summer.
Here are four tips to keep your pots looking good:
Deadhead to keep the flowers coming
Deadheading: Remove flower as soon as they fade to encourage more blooms right through autumn if the weather stays kind.
Get rid of snails lurking in the cool under leaves and around pot lips
Pest controls:  Keep on top of pests. Snails lurk under leaves and around pot rims, greenfly will attack new shoots and buds.
Feed containers fortnightly with liquid tomato food
Feeding: Lots of plants in a confined space will soon work through available nutrients so feed with tomato fertiliser fortnightly.
A few drops of detergent in the water makes it easier to rehydrate very dry compost
Watering: Pot compost dries out fast so plants need daily watering during dry spells. A couple of drops of detergent makes re-wetting easier.
  Let’s keep gardening!
One of the great things about lockdown was that more people discovered the joy of gardening and growing things and we greatly hope that this won’t wear off now that ‘normal’ life has resumed.
This blog is an insight into what the AG team is up in their gardens, what we like to grow, what we pick and harvest, what’s worked for us and what hasn’t – because like everyone, things go wrong for us too!
AG’s agony uncle John Negus is still answering your questions and solving your problms
Our gardening ‘agony uncle’ John Negus is also still working hard. Send him your problems and questions, with pictures if you can, and he will get back to you with an answer within 24 hours, as he has been doing for decades. Contact him using the AG email address at: [email protected]

We already have thriving Facebook page but are also on Twitter and Instagram. These sites are a brilliant way of chatting to people, sharing news, information, pictures and just saying hello –we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Best of all, as gardeners are generally lovely folk, more interested in plants, hedgehogs, tea and cake than political shenanigans and point-scoring, so the chat is friendly and welcoming.

Fine Art Ethereal + Industrial Photoshoot
You know that you’ve been busy when you just could not find the time to share one of your favorite photoshoots of all time! I mean, what the heck?! The whole reason I labor to create photoshoots like this is to share the final manifestation of a creative vision & professional collaboration…but alas, caring for a newborn is a legitimate (and joyful) impediment to productive blogging.
The primary impetus for this photoshoot was, ultimately, my desire to collaborate once again with photographer extraordinaire, Alixann Loosle. We teamed up for this Cape Kiwanda shoot and it was high time that we created together once again. Second of all, I wanted to transform one of Portland’s industrial wedding venues into a light and airy affair. When clients are searching for that perfect wedding venue they may find it difficult to imagine how juxtaposed elements like industrial architecture and traditional wedding design can marry in such a flattering way, so it is up to us vendors to show them what’s possible! The Portland wedding venue that we selected, The Castaway, has a wonderful open layout with oversized factory-style windows, so this was a perfect fit. I began mulling over how I could transform a larger section of the venue into a ceremony space that would photograph as light, bright and simple. The goal for this installation was multi-dimensional: it would serve as a frame for portraits, a ceremony stage, an elegant backdrop for dining and…I wanted it to be flower-free, as an epic floral installation just isn’t always in the cards, budget-wise. Maybe you could put it on the (credit) cards, but we aren’t trying to put you in debt here! We were pretty happy with how this fabric wedding installation photographed at Castaway Portland and have high hopes that we will meet some wedding clients in 2020 who are interested in a similarly inspired ceremony design!
Another design element I wanted to achieve was for all elements of the decor to be completely mute and colorless, except for the flowers. I wanted the flowers to be a bold pop of berry tones against the muted grey, taupe and ivory. Castaway Portland has a very monochromatic vibe with steel beams, off-white walls and cement floors. We played off of these characteristics by peppering in monochromatic accents of stone, terrazzo, velvet, wire mesh, jewelry, and more! We went heavy on the texture, since we were going light on the color.
Our model, Margaret Alba, wore the minimalist dress from Watters with stunning elegance. Kirstie Wight gave her a tousled (partially) up-do with classic and clean makeup. We accentuated with a pop of red on her lips, a nod to the minimalist table decor with the striking red blooms. We added a stone-like texture to Margaret’s look by adorning her with Wine + Whiskey earrings. I couldn’t believe how perfectly these melded with the rest of the decor.
The table scape was both everything industrial and everything romantic, placed on a soft and elegant velvet tablecloth from La Tavola. From terrazzo cylinders, scavenged from a construction site, to hardware cloth, with bold blooms woven throughout. I wanted a touch of romantic juxtaposing these elements, which I achieved through the baroque-inspired fruit selection, the porcelain dinnerware by Lilith Rockett and the painterly stationery touches by Jenny Sanders. The table was polished off with soft velvet seating from Archive Rentals. I love that they offer these chairs in quantity enough to fill out a head table for a wedding party. The floral designs on the table were comprised of cafe latte garden roses, ranunculus in shades of rust, peach, and brown, neon red freesia, red astilbe, plum hellebore, tulip magnolias, brown tulips, and plum and burgundy anemones.
The last main floral element was the bridal bouquet! We wanted to keep it simple, erring on the side of classic, rather than the boisterously large, textured and “organic” bouquets we see so much of right now. Not that I don’t love a big ol’ bouquet, but on occasion a smaller bouquet design just makes sense. This bouquet was comprised of cafe latte garden roses, ranunculus in shades of rust, peach, and brown, neon red freesia, brown tulips, plum hellebore, and plum/burgundy anemones.
WE HOPE THAT you enjoy this wedding inspiration!

Sip into Summer
Digging Deep with Goddess Gardener, Cynthia Brian Sip into Summer by Cynthia Brian
“As the scent to the rose, are those memories to me." Amelia C. Welby
Cooler weather has bidden a sweet goodbye, and warmer days beckon us to linger outdoors. My garden is ablaze with blooms and the aromas of scrumptious scents. My daughter Heather Brittany, also an avid gardener, is visiting and wants to learn more by walking through the landscape with me. However, on this occasion, I am the student and she is the teacher as we stroll through the perfumed botanicals. Heather is a sommelier, a trained and knowledgeable wine professional working in an elite and innovative winery in Temecula.
With a glass of vino in hand and several varietals opened on the patio, she crushes leaves and pinches petals informing me of the subtle flavors we may be experiencing as we sip our way through the backyard. We pick nasturtium, rose, mint, mock orange, cherry, lambs ear, calendula, Nigella, lemongrass, fennel, various citrus, berries, and a sliver of an olive branch. We stick our noses in lilies, lavender, and jasmine, inhaling deeply. We scoop a handful of soil and mulch to draw in the aromas of nature. Rosemary, sage, thyme, chervil, parsley, oregano, and bay…I haven’t ever thought of them as essences of wine. At each stop, she encourages me to stop, breathe in, and imagine. “Touch the lambs ear. Feel the velvety finish of the Queen Elizabeth rose. Take a bite of fennel. Slow down. What do you see? What do you smell? What do you feel? What do you taste?”
I was born and groomed in the vineyards of Napa Valley where I learned farming and gardening skills from my parents and grandparents, yet I’ve never ambled in my private gardens equating my flowers and herbs with the wine I consume. Often I’ve been told that as a writer, I should be crafting the verbiage on wine labels. What has kept me from being creative in that format are some of the normal descriptions that I read on bottles. Leather, tar, asphalt, and tobacco are not ingredients that I choose to imbibe. But here, in my garden, I understand. We luxuriate in the multitude of floral opportunities to discover the subtle notes of the fruit of the vine.
A whiff of a barnyard reminds me of my childhood riding horses, tending sheep, branding cattle, and raising chickens. Pine and redwood needles evoke the memories of Christmas. A shaving of St. Lucia nutmeg makes me nostalgic for Thanksgiving. Narcissus and jasmine are the smells of spring. The sweet stench of aged compost and sensational swathes of fragrant roses and perfumed lavender offer spectacular sights and spice to the summer garden.
On our way back to the house we watch a small sparrow flit from my pine wreath at the back door. Upon careful inspection, we witness three tiny eggs nestled in a nest. We shoot a photo to remember our afternoon lesson. What a fitting finale from our spring into summer sipping expedition!
Pour yourself a glass of Bacchus’s favorite beverage and walk around your garden indulging your senses with scents and memories. Slow down. What do you see? What do you smell? What do you feel? What do you taste? Sip into summer!
Cynthia Brian’s Gardening Guide for June
PRUNE daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, bluebells, freesias, and other bulbs once the leaves have turned crispy yellow. ADD companion plantings of Oriental poppies, allium, delphinium, daylilies, salvia, and peony. PHOTOGRAPH eggs in a bird’s nest, but don’t disturb the nest. The mother bird is alert and watching. CELEBRATE National Pollinator Week June 17-23 by planting three new pollinator plants that will attract bees, butterflies, and birds. Try Nigella (love-in-a-mist), bee balm, and fennel. DIVIDE perennials before the weather is too warm. Alstroemeria, hosta, yarrow, aster, and astilbe. Most perennials need dividing every three to four years to maintain annual blooms. ADD three inches of mulch to your garden. If you have pine or redwood trees, gather the needles to mulch your roses, azaleas, rhododendrons, fuchsias, and other acid-loving plants. The mulch will keep the plants cooler and maintain moisture. CONTAIN all mints in pots with saucers. Spearmint, peppermint, pineapple mint, catnip, and the rest of the mint family can easily become invasive when planted in the ground. DEADHEAD roses at least weekly to encourage continual blooming. BAIT for snails and slugs. PLANT annuals in blocks of odd numbers—three, five, seven, nine, or more to create a more natural and aesthetically pleasing look to the human eye. To achieve this, you can plant the same variety of flowers in each odd grouping, or you can create color blocks with several similar varieties. CUT bouquets of alstroemeria flowers for two weeks of vase life enjoyment. WALK through your garden to savor the scents of a variety of plants. PICK cherries as they ripen before the birds eat them all. DO a second planting of beets, chard, beans, and radishes. LISTEN to the serenading of the bullfrogs as they seduce with their song. REPEL mosquitoes by emptying all vessels containing even a few drops of water. Add Dunks® to ponds or non-circulating water sources. Citronella and lemongrass plants supposedly help placed on the patio. POUR a glass of wine and decipher the flavors that emanate from the garden. COMMEMORATE dad on Father’s Day with a gift from the garden and include a copy of my book, Growing with the Goddess Gardener available at http://www.CynthiaBrian.com/online-store
CELEBRATE the summer solstice on June 21 with a controlled and safe bonfire. Did you know that the word “bonfire” derived from the words “bone fire” because bones were burned to make lime to sweeten the soil? In years past, bone fires, or bonfires were beacons to guide travelers on land and sea.
Happy Gardening. Happy Growing. Happy Daddy’s Day!

This Elegant Beach Wedding Captures Crete's Undeniable Charm - Green Wedding Shoes
If you’re having a hard time denying the allure of getting married somewhere in Greece, this editorial will do you no favors! From mountains to the beach, Crete is an island that has it all. Breathtaking scenery, rich tradition, good food, and friendly locals…what more could you ask for? A 5-star hotel with minimal (yet luxurious) decor that lets the island’s beauty speak for itself wouldn’t hurt, so it’s convenient that the new Abaton Island Resort & Spa is just that—and our setting for today’s wedding inspiration!
Here’s the inspiration behind the day from Rock Paper Scissors Events, the designers: Our goal was to capture the colors of nature in this wild part of Crete, showing how beautiful it is in all seasons. We wanted to create a scenery of the less traditional sort. Our entire inspiration for this shoot was based on the elegance that this venue exudes and which grows wild all around the beach area. The mixed color palette of blush pink, soft creamy white and black accents was like a calling to us from the very first moment we walked in this property.
With photos by Thanos Asfis Photography of Velvet Rose Studio, let’s venture on to Crete!
And so it begins…the gorgeous invitation suite was created by the hands at Love me Do.
This pink astible bouquet!!
The Beachside Ceremony Arch
As if the view wasn’t beautiful enough, Pavlos The Flower Workshop crafted a masterpiece by which to enjoy it! Dusty pinks, popping orange blooms, pampas grass, astilbe, and amaranth combined to create a wild yet refined ceremony arch that fits quite perfectly among its surroundings.
Are you not utterly swept away?!
Folklore Meets Modern: The Vows
Magic!
The bride wore two gowns from Victoria Kyriakides‘ VKK Haute Couture Collection. The ceremony gown is the Vivienne dress which features a lacey net bodice and feather A-line skirt—offering dreamy, subtle movements from the ocean breeze.
Local musicians from Crete escorted the bride to her groom, then sung and rhymed traditional “mantinades,” wishes in the form of short poems, to the couple following the ceremony!
Reception on the Water
The bride changed into the playful Ellie gown, also from the VKK Haute Couture Collection, for the beachside reception.
And we are loving the groom’s stately style! Michail Androulidakis, the founder of It’s a MAN’s Class, opted for a cream tailor-made tuxedo jacket with contrasting shawl lapel paired with black dress pants by Giannetos, providing a crisp update to the classic formal wear. The perfectly tailored white dress shirt by Christakis, black Oxford shoes by Kwnstantinos and unique self-tie bow tie add to the timelessness of the look.
Meanwhile, the breathtaking reception table rivals that of the ocean view!
How elegant are those black details paired with the floral tree installations?
Loving this unique combination of tabletop rentals from White Lilac!
We love a good black cake here at GWS, and this one by The Cakers does not disappoint! Just look at those sugar flowers!
For more from this stunning day, have a look at the video above by Kostas Kastanakis! Thanks to the team behind this shoot for taking us along to Crete!

Early Autumn Bouquet Breakdown
While we love summer weddings, we can’t wait for fall celebrations to begin! There’s something about rich colors, cooler temperatures and cozy vibes that have an undeniable charm!
We recently had a reader share this bouquet photo with us and I instantly fell in love! This bridal bouquet belongs to a beautiful English-inspired wedding in North Carolina, which beautifully photographed by Perry Vaile and was featured on Style Me Pretty. During the peak of fall, the rich-colored leaves and natural scenery provided the perfect backdrop for this look!
Crafted by Rebecca Rose Creative, the dreamy, all-greenery arrangements featured unique leaves like magnolia. Magnolia provided the right amount of depth with its attractive green color foliage, with a brownish-gold backside. Flowers like astilbe created a nice balance and softened the overall look. This styled shoot was jammed-packed with elegant-autumn inspiration, so I highly recommend taking a look at the full shoot!
Here’s what you would need in order to recreate this look: Seeded Eucalyptus, some Naked Seeded Eucalyptus (for even more texture), White Astilbe, White Foxglove (you could substitute this for white snapdragons) and Magnolia Greenery.
Love this bouquet? Check out all of our Bouquet Breakdowns on the blog and our Pinterest board! If you’ve found a bouquet that you need broken down to try and recreate yourself, just leave a comment with a link to the image and we will do our best to offer some suggestions!
