The first video game song to win an Emmy was the Lord’s Prayer sung in Swahili.
The song has made such an impact that it has been sung in various chorus all across the world.
I just find it amazing that out of all the video game songs out there, this is one that made such impact.  As far as I know, the composer has not made a declaration of faith, and was suggested the lyrics by someone he knew and worked with a native(?) speaker to work it in song form.  He’s composed other songs, but this is the most well known of his works, and likely will remain that way.
Does the song even do the Prayer justice?  Absolutely.  I would absolutely encourage someone to listen to it.  It is so beautiful.

Baba Yetu
Occasionally a piece of music crosses my path that touches me and enriches my spiritual journey. Such a piece is Baba Yetu The words of Baba Yetu are the Lord’s Prayer in Swahili. The piece is composed by Christopher Tin and, believe it or not, was first part of a video game — Civilization IV. Since then, it has become a widely recorded piece. The international multi-racial tone of Baba Yetu is…

The fact that we have this video of people from all walks of life singing the most joyous and chilling version of “Our Father” I’ve ever known on NATIONAL TELEVISION just makes me so happy.
A glimpse of heaven. 💖

Calling All Dawns by Christopher Tin Performed by various artists. ----- If you know any of Christopher Tin’s music, you probably know Baba Yetu (his setting of the Lord’s Prayer in Swahili used as the opening title of the game Civilization 4), but did you know that it was part of an even bigger work that wasn’t video game related? It’s part of a song cycle called Calling All Dawns which is meant to symbolize the passing of a day on Earth (and the passing of a human from birth to life to death and to life again). Each piece is an excerpt from an influential text including The Bible, the Bhagavad Gita, and Japanese Haiku, and is also representative of musical traditions associated with it (African singing with the Bible to call back to the African roots in American gospel singing, Maori haka and whaikorero chanting with a Maori blessing etc.) I rarely am one to listen to an album all the way through from start to finish, but I absolutely love to throw this on during a road trip so I can just kick back and drive. BTW for the best experience... place the playlist on loop. ;p

it made my insomnia dissapear for a bit
oh, how wonderful, how wonderful - the impact that music can have on us... - thank you for giving it a listen!
and if it helped you fall asleep, I would wholeheartedly recommend the full choral concert that this piece was from, The Drop That Contained The Sea - you can find it here on youtube - or Calling All Dawns, Tin's most well known song cycle, available here as performed stunningly at Llangollen International Musical by incredibly talented souls from all over the world.
here's the Llangollen performance of the grammy winning piece Baba Yetu from Civilization IV - because maybe just maybe someone here doesn't know it and falls in love with it just as I have with one click:

3, 26, 30 : )
Heeeeyyyy! :)) Thanks for the ask!
3. three songs you were recently obsessed with
Unsurprisingly, these are all Good-Omens coded. Because everything is now, lol. The first one is the Ineffable Divorce song I can't get out of my head. This is the "sad" version. :(
A little melancholy, but beautiful, and moving towards a happy ending.
This one's my hope for Season 3, with the boys snug in the South Downs Cottage.
26. three favourite non-English songs
This is just about impossible to decide, but I'm going with three upbeat ones I think you might like. Baba Yetu was composed as the title song for Civilization VI. It's lovely.
My ex introduced me to this band, but I really like them anyway, lol.
This one's not on Spotify, which is too bad, it's a great song. Very uplifting, as long as you don't know Finnish or go look up the lyrics. 😂

30. three songs you really want your followers to know (for reasons other than all those above)
This is a lovely song that's applicable to Aziraphale & Crowley, the Tenth Doctor & Rose, or just life sometimes.
If you're a geek or a nerd, and are/were a girl, you might need to hear this one. If you're a guy, you definitely do.
youtube
And last but not least, this was the first song I ever heard of Great Big Sea's, which was my favorite band for many years. Could also be Muriel's song for Crowley. Yes, everything is Good Omens, what about it? 😂

It's funny, or rather quite sad, that you can convincingly argue that Kirby Music was the final push needed for the Grammy's to add a video game category, but then the next year, the first year of the category it's just:
Tumblr media
Big budget western releases as far as the eye can see. And also Christopher Tin is there because his song for Civilization 4, Baba Yetu, is famously the first video game song to win a Grammy at all.
Like, cool, video game music has Prestige now. Unfortunately the category will be dominated by the equivalent of Oscar-bait.
