i love when a show will have child protagonists but then the villains are an ensemble of really fucked up adult/almost adult characters who have their own shit going on it never gets old

since the vexos were basically like celebrities to the vestals, i think that they would have had to put up with the vestal equivalent of stan twitter, and that idea is very funny to me

I had a thought.

You know how everyone and their dog’s grandma knows and loves Zuko’s redemption arc.

Hydron didn’t get that.

They both have similarities. Both of their dads were abusive fuckwads (who only deserve the titles of sperm doner or jiz provider at best). Both “fathers” were also horrible fascist rulers who tried to genocide at least one group of sapient beings at least once. Both of them were also fighting like hell for the approval of the monsters who sired them. Hell, they were both of them were 16 when a lot of this was going down.

One of the main differences is Zuko had Iroh, who had to go through his own personal betterment arc after his son died in a battle he was fighting to help try and pull him out of all that. Hydron only really had 4 to 6 other teenagers in a similar situation, two of which he had to kill for his father’s approval.

Zuko also had more time, and spent a lot of it seeing how his father’s and his nations’s actions hurt other people. Hydron only got 3 to 5 episodes to really think, no time living among humans, non royal Vestiles, or Bakugan, and he died trying to make sure his father couldn’t escape and do more harm.

I’m not saying Hydron deserved a Zuko level redemption arc. I’m saying if he actually survived, he could have grown up to be a better person even if he stumbled along the way.
