EN: Traditionally, the Retro Balaton event took place in the summer around Lake Balaton, during which retro locomotives and trainsets on regular trains, as well as special trains with steam locomotives, appeared on all trains around the northern part of the lake. This year's participant was locomotive NoHab 618.629 of the carrier Komplex Rail, which ran with a green four-car set on trains between Tapolca and Balatonfured. Rare Viking Coin Found In Hungary
Finding a very small coin over the expanse of an archaeological dig is like finding a needle in a haystack. But with the help of a metal detector, one was indeed discovered in Hungary. The coin, which could be dated to around the year 800, shows the Christian cross on one side and the V-mark or Viking’s cross on the other. Archaeologists thought it could have been found at one of two Viking burial sites in Hungary: Balatonfured or Szekesfehervar. However, more testing will have to be done before more can be said about its origins. It currently sits in Budapest’s National Museum.

Balatonfüred is regarded as the capital of the northern side of Lake Balaton. The word ‘füred’ refers to a centuries-old bathing culture which is based on its carbonated springs. When ask for the number of them, it is no less, then 11! According to the local legend, the springs were the presents from a good fairy, to Helka and Kelén, the 'Romeo and Juliet' of Lake Balaton. We love tales, so we keep them live, but also tell you: the springs good medical effects comes from the minerals the water contains, and the minerals origin from the volcanic rocks of Balaton's Upperland. Most known spring locates just in the centre of Balatonfüred, under a tiny, 12 columns wellhouse, built in 1800. Though the carbonated water springs near the shore of the lake were known back already in the 17th century, the tradition of bathing started to evolve at the beginning of the 18th century, when its water was pronounced to have medicinal effects. By this time a wooden bathing house had already been established, which was later succeeded by one made of stone, in which rooms were available for the guests. This is how the story of the sanatory of the city started.....the spring is active even today, a many locals and visitors come here to take the water home - free !
