Mrs Simon Riley. A good quiet woman, a nurse, caring and understanding. She and Simon had met after a terrorist attack in London. Working in A&E the victims of the attack were brought there, she was busy dressing wounds, hanging IV lines and giving pain medication. That was until Task Force 141 burst through the doors carrying a half conscious Simon Riley.

Her manager assigned her to take care of him, blood loss from a stab wound. He was rushed into surgery to cauterise the blood vessel and stitch up the open skin. Their relationship was rocky at first, she felt uneasy he was rushed in above everyone else. The skull mask made her feel nervous, but his gentle grasp at her wrist alleviated some of this.

They began talking more and more during her shifts, he eagerly awaited her arrival every time. After he was discharged they remained in contact and the rest is history.

Four years later and Ghost is sat in his room at the barracks, missing his wife immensely. All the boys had met her, she often invited them round for dinner. They loved her, she was funny, kind and certainly kept Ghost in his place. But what they didn’t know was that she was a fiend in the bedroom. She certainly gave Ghost a run for his money.

Knowing he was going to be away for months she surprised him before he left. A small envelope filled with Polaroids of her, in deep purple underwear, stockings, and black patent stilettos. Others she was completely naked, angling the camera down her body two fingers teasing the edge of her cunt.

Oh he liked this surprise. On base he kept them on his person, no one else was gonna be privy to this. When he left base he kept them in a tin lock box he hid in a vent in his room. Just looking at her body in those photos drove him wild, all he wanted to do was to touch her. To feel her beneath him.

Lost in his memories of her he didn’t hear the first knock at the door. The second made him jump ‘Ghost! You in there buddy?’ Soaps thick accent pierced the door. Scrambling he tried to shove the pictures back in the box making one hell of a racket. ‘Comin Soap!’

Opening the door he was panting slightly. ‘Alright Lt?’ Soap asked confused. Nodding he hurried him out of the room but not before Soap noticed a picture on the floor. ‘What’s that on the floor Lt?’ His eyes widened in fear, he couldn’t let your pictures be seen by them. ‘Nothin that concerns you Johnny’ he warned.

Gaz rounded the corner and saw the look in Ghosts eyes, ‘Soap what you done now?’ He laughed. ‘Lt is hiding something from us me thinks.’ Gaz burst out laughing.

‘Leave him alone Soap, come in before Price has our arses.’ Soap backed off, surrendering.

As Ghost dropped his guard to close the door Soap burst through and dived for the photo. ‘STEAMIN JESUS LT!’ He shrieked laughing, ‘hidin’ this beauty from us I see.’ Gaz over come with curiosity fought off Ghost and joined Soap on the floor. ‘Fuck sir. She’s stunning’ he laughed. Luckily it was a photo of her in her lingerie, her breasts pushed together, her red lips smirking. ‘Gimme that if you know what’s good for you’ Ghost boomed.

Gaz and Soap exchanged a glance at each other like naughty school boys. ‘One more peep Lt?’ Soap laughed.

BINDING:

This was my first go at a German Bradel binding! I've seen lots of Renegade folks use this method and am so psyched I got around to trying it myself. I modified DAS's approach a bit and tipped on endpapers instead of sewing them in (there were a lot of new things to learn so I decided to shelve sewn endpapers for the next binding XD). I also only had 2.0 mm bookboard instead of 1.0 mm, so instead of layering two of the same boards like DAS did, I instead used one 2.0 mm board and one very thin piece of cardboard to create the groove for the hinge. The original article that DAS bases his video on actually uses boards of two different sizes too--a "thick" board and a "thin" board--but I still want to experiment with DAS's way of doing it, especially since I think it'll be easier to do cutouts on thinner board.

As far as matching the groove with the hinge, I think I did pretty okay for my first try! One board is definitely better fitting than the other though baha. There's always room for improvement, but hey that's where half the fun is anyway (and also you can't tell after the case-in whew), so I'm not stressed about it :D

COLOR SCHEME:

Nearly all of my design decisions for the color scheme were based off of @byierficrecs's gorgeous cover design! They were so generous in letting me use their cover and answering my questions about fonts, for which I can't thank them enough. And with so many wonderful elements to work with, it was so much fun to tease out the elements I loved from their work!

I decided to keep with the theme of red/black, which I also thought was fitting for a ST fic set largely in the Upside Down. Thus, black painted edges with red vines, as a kind of inverted, "upside down" continuation of the cover:

Even the thread I used to sew the signatures is red/black! :3 (please also ignore how the picture of the textblock is not focused on the actual textblock ajsldkfjs it was very late when I took that photo)

COVER PRINTING:

This was my first time printing a cover on my new printer (!!!), and BOY oh boy was it an adventure. Figuring out the dimensions took a second, but not as long as it took me to figure out what settings produced something I was happy with. Behold, all my test prints:

Very long story short, let's just say now I understand why being a prepress color specialist is literally a career you can have in publishing LOL.

Also, for some reason I could only sometimes get the bleed to work? Basically what I ended up doing was painting over the parts where the design didn't quite extend over the turn-ins, using with the same black acrylic paint I used for the edges. You can see this more clearly in the photos I took of the groove, and the endpapers covered the messy bits when I cased in:

Finally!! The most important part of the process!!! HI LEAH ILY!!!! This fic is special for a lot of personal reasons, but chief among them is LOVE!!!! Your A/N's made me tear up when I first read it, because AH! You read my words of love!!! And went and wrote hundreds of thousands of your own words of love!!! Happy Weekend all :) Watched this ep last night wrote down my thoughts and thought kick off Saturday with a review. Another really good ep ahead. S2 adds onto the base built in S1 in the best way. Off we go.

2x02 The Night General

We catch our first glimpse of our fine duo at the end of roll call. Grey has a new book for Tim to read for his Sergeant's exam. Tim doesn’t look excited in the least. Lucy calls out the book for its dated title. Grey explains to Lucy it's from the 60s. Lovely. Tim asks how this book is relevant with 21st century policing? Grey tells him 'Ours is not to reason why' LOL Basically saying he has to read it whether he wants to or not Poor Tim.

They're not in the shop two seconds before Tim hands her the book to read to him. Of course Lucy is going to give him some push back. She wouldn’t be her if she didn’t. Would you love her Timothy if she was anything but who she is? haha This is how they're going to spend their shift whether Lucy wants to or not.

Lucy suggests just to let her drive so he can read it while they work. That doesn’t fly with Tim baha Lucy doesn’t understand (yet) why he can’t just read it himself. Thinks Tim is just making her do it for him just cause he can. You'll find out soon enough my dear. Lucy knows when to pick her battles at this point. So she decides not to fight Tim on this one. Gives in and cracks this old fossil open and begins to read to him.

Mini marriage scene going on right here. It's their back and forth that I love so much about them. A comfortability has settled between the two of them and it shows. Instantly Lucy is being smug and sassy about the material. One of my fav things she does with him. Pushes his buttons like only she can. Instead of being immediately grumpy he dishes it right back. Oh how they’ve grown. Giving him crap with the book saying he shouldn’t generate fear but respect.

Tim is snarky as well firing back of course she would like this book...We all know she has thrived under his leadership. She's not really taking shots at him so much as using it to mess with him. She can't help herself. Lucy is taking full advantage of this scenario. Tim is painfully aware she is using reading this book to punish him. I mean it's only fair since he's forcing her to read it between calls.

I love her face in the gif above. She’s enjoying herself far too much for Tim’s liking haha He tells her to just keep reading LOL Like Lucy wasn't going to read this book without running commentary. Come on Timothy you know better than that hehe Lucy continues on and you can see him trying so hard to absorb it as she speaks.

Lucy ends up on another quote she likes. Of course its about patrol officers having value. So she chooses this one to have him parrot back to her. She is agitating the crap out of him and knows it. Telling him he needs to repeat it in order to memorize it. Using her psych degree to justify it. He begrudgingly does it and she asks him to do it again lmao Lucy is pushing her boundaries today and is fine with it haha

They get a call interrupting her and Tim is so relieved. Lucy responds to dispatch then says 'Ok 3 min out more reading.' LMAO She is relentless and begins up again. Tim's face above I’m dying. LOL He looks like he’s being endlessly tortured by her studying methods. This episode is absolute gold start to finish. He is at her mercy with this and knows it.

We rejoin them in the shop after their call. Lucy has moved onto chapter 3. ‘The Healthy Habits Of Command’ She goes on to read out loud ‘Delegation is the key to leading men in times of stress.’ Which leads to the line above. She follows it up with That’s so true don’t you think? Tim snaps back it’s hard enough to listen to this stuff without her editorializing haha Honestly Tim what did you expect from her? She tells him she’s happy to stop anytime and get back to her paper work.

Lucy goes on to tell him that he’s going to have to re-read all this again anyways to memorize it. You see the panic in Tim’s face. It’s here Lucy finds out he learns best when he’s hears it. That response immediately gets the wheels in Lucy’s head churning with her response of Really? He then asks what? Why? She tells him nothing…. Doesn’t take Tim long to figure out she’s holding something back from him. He says ‘Boot...’

Lucy tries to mumble her reply at first. Telling him he has a learning difference under her breath. It’s kinda funny how she tries to hide her answer. She knows he’s going to take it the wrong way. Tim makes her speak up and Lucy bites the bullet. Then try’s to soften the blow by saying he’s just wired differently. That he just processes information differently than others. She is digging herself a hole and knows it. Tim is bristly af as she tries explain this to him. He tells her he doesn’t have a learning disability. Flat out refuses to accept it.

Lucy digs her hole even further when she brings up Isabel. Tim has grown but that continues to be a sore subject for him. Lucy is trying so hard for him not to take this as a bad thing. Minute she brings Isabel up and their time at the academy he shuts down. Tells her they’re not talking about this. Lucy looks crushed she’s offended him. That comfortability and banter from earlier gone. You can see how much she wants to fix it. Unfortunately they get a call before she can rectify the situation. It's about a suspicious mini van casing a house. She tries to fix it as they drive to the call but he is shut off completely. Lucy is defeated and says never mind….

They pull up and its an old colleague of Tim's. He is a bounty hunter now. Lucy is assertive right off the bat saying they've received multiple 911 calls about him. Rex bites back calling her boot and to watch her tone. Tim steps in right away. No one calls her ‘boot’ but Tim good sir. So sexy when he tells Rex she’s the police now. Even though he’s grumpy about the studying he still has her back on this 100%. Such growth Tim. I love me some protective/supportive Tim. Lucy doesn't let Rex's behavior shake her. Lets this surly grump of a man know that. It’s like she has experience with them or something heh

Tim's face when Rex says 'You let her talk to you like that?' It’s a 'Watch it...' We all know Tim likes it when Lucy talks to him like that. It’s that assertive confidence that attracts him to her. One of many reasons But It’s far too early to delve into that fully haha We all know it’s true though. Lucy tells him his bounty Nico is a very dangerous person. Rex tries to rattle her one more time. Saying how he’s been dealing with dangerous men since she was in diapers. Lucy tells him these days you have to call law enforcement for this stuff. She cracks me up and says maybe he should read Tim’s book LMAO

Lucy tries the next day to mend fences with Tim. Asking him if he'd like her to read to him? Trying to offer up a olive branch. He instantly shuts her down. Says no. Lucy tries to implore him to let her. That he needs to learn it. He grumpily replies ‘I can do that on my own.' Oof she really hit a nerve with this one. Before Lucy can fight him some more they pull back up to Rex’s van. Tim is wanting to do a welfare check on him. He didn't report his bounty last night. Lucy calls him out for it and Tim says he wouldn’t put it that way to Rex though. But he's being a softie and she knows it.

They find blood and broken glass and call it in. Rex has been assaulted and Tim sees red. He takes off once Rex says Nico is headed to his aunt's. Lucy calls after him saying they need a warrant. Tim doesn’t listen as he takes off and Rex tells Lucy go with Tim.

Tim busts in raging says blood on the door enough reason for them to search. Lucy takes control of the situation quickly. Makes the aunt call Nico. Says they’ll arrest for aiding and abetting if she doesn’t. Does this to calm Tim down a bit. She’s so good at that. Not the first time she's taken charge to rein him a bit. The aunt calls it doesn't take long to find him in the house Then comes this bad ass fight scene. Last episode I said they’re like poetry in motion in the field. This gif is the definition of that. Look how well they work together to take Niko down. It’s a thing of beauty really.

First off let’s enjoy the fact we’re getting Tim all sweaty and guns out to play shall we? Ovary explosion for me. It's a very nice visual for me to start this scene. *fans self* Never get over how fine this man is honestly. Now let’s move onto the beautiful moment that’s about to commence. Lucy finds Tim working out. Ask's if he's training for his next re-match with Nico haha She hands him the little Audio book he looks so confused as to what this might be. His confusion continues after she explain its the audiobook version of his book.

Lucy looks so proud of herself when she explains she recorded it for him. She should be. You know she spent whatever free time she had off shift doing that for him. That is no small feat. Also the fact that she reached out to Isabel for him. I can’t imagine that conversation wasn’t a little awkward for her. But guess what? She did it anyways to help him. Even when he’s obstinate af with her she is driven to help him no matter what.

That psych degree comes in handy when she’s deciphering Tim. Why he acts the way he does. He lashed out cause he was embarrassed by the fact that he learns through listening. This is why Lucy does this for him. So he feels better about the way he learns. Doesn’t feel shame about it. He is much more receptive to her explanation this time around. You can see it in his face in that second gif above. She is so kind and gentle while she does it. Letting him know hey it's ok you learn this way. Nothing is wrong with it or you.

I can totally relate to Tim too btw. I am a Kinesthetic learner as well. I absorb audio books far more than sitting down and reading. I have to be moving while I listen or I’m instantly bored and disengage. If it’s a fic I’m fine for most part if it’s a one shot. But anything I have to read at massive length? I gotta be moving. So I get it Tim I’m same way my love.

She ends her explanation by complimenting him in the best way she can. By letting him know that the way he learns is why he’s such an excellent cop. Building him up and letting him know its why he excels the way he does at his job. Reinforcing his way of learning isn’t a bad thing at all but a strength for him. You can see it in his face he finally accepts this about himself. He replies 'Yeah.' with a small smile of gratitude. Like she's just taught him something about himself and he's not mad about it. Tim can't help but let that Lucy light of hers in.

Lucy says she will see him tomorrow. Wants to let him get back to his work out. You can tell Tim wants to say something before she goes. He builds up the courage to say 'Thanks' as she’s leaving ❤️ It's such a loaded Thanks for him. The absolute gratitude he has for her in this moment. I’ve said it many times and I’ll continue to say it. Eric says so damn much with just a look. If her recording an audio book isn’t an act of service and love to him I don’t know what is. The look on this man’s face as he says 'Thanks.' He is blown away she took the time to do this for him. Has to make sure Lucy knows how grateful he is before she leaves. Because she saw he had a need and fulfilled it for him. Put him first and took care of him in best way she could think of.

Lucy’s smile Is everything after he says this. It's the most honest and genuine 'Thanks ' she's ever received from him. She almost can't handle it. Why she nervously smiles back instead of replying. She is adorable. Gah no one gets through like Lucy does for him. Makes me wanna cry honestly. They’re written so damn well it makes me happy. Truly just make one another better in the best way.

That little smile of his when he hears Lucy’s intro. My damn heart. She truly is the best rookie he’s ever trained. Damn straight. If you weren’t shipping them before, this scene has to get you hook, line and sinker. She recorded an old outdated book for him in her personal time, built him up, made him feel better about how he learns, and reached out to his ex for clarification in order to help him better.

Actions speak louder than words they say for a reason. Her actions are screaming right now. Makes you wonder if he listened at night at all? Did he ever fall asleep to her voice during his studying? Maybe he did maybe he didn't. A girl can dream though haha Such a good ep for them start to finish.

Mmm Tim laying into Jackson about the hole he’s in. Yes please. Defending Angela when Jackson makes a joke if he’s late his dad is gonna light up Lopez. Tim goes on to tell him she’s going to pay the price if he doesn’t get his shit together. That she will be the target of his fathers aggression if he goes belly up halfway through training. That Jackson owes her his career. Whew lord I love me some protective Tim.

Also Lucy and Jackson living together ❤️ such a good friend to take him in like that I love it. First thing he needed to her back on track.

I know there's a million things I haven't picked up on in the canon text, and then it gets jumbled even more when I dive into fanon content, and at this point I'm just enjoying being here with other people and having fun with the material I know... sorry I'm rambling lol but my point is: please don't feel like no one will want to befriend you or not listen to what you have to say about silm! So, as I said as a comment on your core ambience post, DFB voices TTV (forgot to mention he voices every single TV, which is probably why TV Woman never speaks, and (obviously) the secret agent.) albeit with a lowered pitch, some sort of distortion and reversal.

Thing is, DFB rakes in a shitload of cash. If SocialBlade is anything to go by, around the time of the beginning of the TV arc, the lucky bastard was earning 200k a month. With this HUGE amount of money, surely he could hire a PROFFESIONAL voice actor who can sound mysterious and threatening? Right?!

He voiced the main character of his previous series male_07 himself so maybe he's upholding a sort of tradition? Is he a cheapskate despite being so rich? I guess we'll never know.

I've no idea how accurate Socialblade is; maybe it's like that bit in the Simpsons where Bart's class 'calculate' that Principal Skinner is a millionaire (using wildly off-base assumptions). Plus how much is he spending on paying the company who runs dafuqboom.shop for him, and paying the artists for the rights to use their artwork?

My guess is that he doesn't think it's worth it to hire a whole voice actor for just a few words per episode that aren't really 'meant' be heard; they're just an Easter egg.

I'd like it if TV Matriarch spoke with the same voice as all the other TVs. Because she's not a human woman; she's a television.

Alright here we go most recent dreams I’d consider nightmares I’ve had

Getting chased by this shadow figure in my grandparents house. It didn’t physically attack me but it kept shifting in and out of my vision and the main thing I remember is cowering in my grandparents’ VERY dark kitchen as it circled me. I kept trying to wake up but couldn’t

Walking through this very dark abandoned warehouse past rows and rows of identical doors. Each time I came to a door there would be this like. Dog head (looked like a husky) staring. It didn’t move, it didn’t blink, it didn’t even look at me it was just staring with this fucking unnerving blank expression. Also it was positioned about the height a human adult would stand. Definitely not dog height. Everything was so dark and the door was opened so slimly I couldn’t see anything past the head, and I could barely see the head itself. Every time I tried to approach a door it would slam shut. This one still unnerves me even now, and it’s months old at this point. Would make a good horror movie though BAHA

I was in this building?? That had these shallow pools in the ground, a high ceiling and walls that didn’t reach all the way up to separate the walls. The walls were made up of beige and faded pastel tiles. There were other parts where the walls were made of the scratchy plaster?? stuff like the floors of indoor pools. Everything was extremely liminal like. VERY liminal. I was with a small group of people very briefly at first but eventually got separated from them. I was walking around this place for a while before I saw this window shaped and sized hole in the wall pretty far away from me. Standing in this hole was the figure of a pale woman with long black hair and a white dress. She was standing there staring at me. Pretty basic horror thing but it was still fairly unnerving fhffhh

This one’s pretty long but the gist of it was I was in this hotel with my mother, but we got chased out by this massive thin metal bird thing that I think blew a hole in the hotel room’s ceiling. We left the hotel without any of our belongings and couldn’t go back to get them because of the bird. So we were left to wander around this big muddy road that a lot of other people were on. We were in this like,, field?? Sorta and the only building anywhere around was the hotel. We somehow ended up in the second floor of this two story building, in which was just this big ass room filled with either children’s beds or desks. Sitting at these beds/desks were a bunch of other people. They weren’t doing anything they were just. There. Almost like they were frozen or paralyzed or whatever it was weird. Also this room was really dark so it was hard to make out the people clearly they were just figures. ANYWAY we ended up in the basement and first floor of this building which was filled with stalls like you would see in a commercial pig farm or something (think the barn where the pigs were kept in Spirited Away if you’ve seen that movie) but instead of animals in these stalls were a shit ton of people. Like naked humans. At the time I knew that this building was a slaughterhouse for those humans. (There was a lot more that happened and I’m definitely writing a novel based on this some time)

Another long one but the short gist of it was I was getting pursued by this assassin with a machine gun. I had to run through this cafe and jump out a window while he was shooting at me the entire time. Like I was close to getting shot several times while having to run and duck under shit

A Short Exchange - A Demon: The Descent Scene

I figured, why not post a little scene I wrote for my Demon: The Descent PC, Arya? It’s fun exploring her character in little side scenes that happen “off screen” from our games, which sometimes I’ll send to our DM for his canon approval.

Our group is based in Orlando, Florida (yes, Orlando, baha), and currently doing work for a vampire boss of sorts named Gregori who keeps an eye on the supernaturals in his territory of the city to make sure they’re not rocking the boat too much. For background on this particular scene, we had just finished up a job rescuing one of Gregori’s higher-ups, a Nosferatu named Ronnie. Arya, cold, removed, and stoic, but inwardly intensely hedonistic, took an odd interest in the easy-going, rather dork-ish Ronnie, and initiated hooking up together for a night--something she does pretty often with anyone she finds interesting, lol. So I wrote a short scene for after that!

The other appearing character is Zach, who acts as a point of contact between our group and Gregori. We have no idea what he is exactly, and he’s not particularly forthcoming about it. (Which also makes Arya highly intrigued with him, but she’s patiently playing the long-game on that one.)

“You don’t have to rush out, you know. You can stay.”

It wasn’t a plea—something she heard a little too often—but a simple observation. Normally the firm click of the door closing behind her was her only response, but this time, Arya paused and looked back over her shoulder at the deeper shadow in the darkness. Watching her, waiting, but approaching no closer.

“I don’t stay,” was all she said, and was gone.

The Uber pulled up at the exact moment Arya stepped out from the apartment lobby onto the city street, quiet in the late-night-early-morning haze. She approached the car without breaking her stride—then stopped as her hand touched the handle. Her gaze flickered to the alley left of the complex, eyes narrowing. But in a breath she had disappeared into the backseat and sped away, leaving the street once again empty and silent.

Ronnie emerged from the apartment shortly after Arya’s departure. Well. He wasn’t going to waste the rest of a perfectly good night without any work obligations moping in his flat.

A cough at his shoulder nearly made him jump out of his skin. He spun on his heel to see a taciturn young man beside him. “Zach! God,  you’re gonna give me a heart attack one of these days.”

“That’s literally impossible,” Zach observed, then continued, “I’m just here with a warning.”

“A—warning—?”

“I don’t care if you work with them,” Zach plowed on, ignoring the interruption. “That’s your business. But I wouldn’t get close to them.”

Ronnie’s mind flickered to the slender form silhouetted against the light spilling into his apartment from the hallway, haloing around her head as she turned just enough to see him, but not enough to show her eyes.

I don't stay.

“Yeah… I don’t see that happening anytime soon,” he said, rubbing his chin.

Zach shrugged, hand shoved deep in his pockets. “I’m just letting you know. They’re trouble, with a capital ‘T’.”

“Do you know what they are?”

Zach was hard to read on a good day—if he had those—and that day was apparently not tonight. “They’re not worth risking your hide for, if you get my drift.”

Ronnie got the sense he’d be pressing his luck with more questions, so he dropped the topic without a fight. “Well… thanks for the heads-up, anyway,” he said. “Warning duly noted. Uh—wanna grab a drink?”

“Not the kind you’re thinking of. Happy hunting, though.”

Ronnie grinned, showing all of his teeth. “See you later, then,” he replied, and with a casual wave, disappeared into the night.

Don’t get close, eh?

Well. They had his number. He’d just have to wait and see.

Allow me to remind you my idea of Voidwing based Lucifer keeps Lucilius as pet because he thinks it would be funny

Which reminds me how Lucifer talked about past, his role not having much sense without evolution researcher around and just... Even if Lucifer was around, I don't think he would fucking care. Lucilius wants to destroy everything he loves, tortured and used his loved ones and those under his care and I feel like big part of deciding to kill Lucilius was his experiments on angels. Now with 2 000 added years of work against his legacy, seeing the amount he caused...

I don't think that Lucifer has any warm feelings left to even try to help him get redemption, just sent that bitch straight to the God to deal with it (Baha throws him back because he also don't want to deal with him).

Like can't put trust into someone who's already destroyed it yaknow?

But yeah in the end Bubs manage to have more chance to join our crew if only because i feel like people don't have too much strong feelings about him. 1 "Who Let the Dogs Out" by Baha Men

As much as we love our four-legged friends, this Caribbean classic is not about canines. After eight years of research, Ben Sisto got to the heart of the titular question in his documentary Who Let the Dogs Out, which premiered at SXSW in 2019. The final answer? The steel drum-infused song is actually a feminist anthem.

According to The Daily Beast, Trinidadian artist Anslem Douglas wrote the song—originally titled "Doggie," but famously known as "Who Let the Dogs Out" thanks to Baha Men's 2000 cover—as a "rallying cry" against cat-calling. Hence the lyrics: "Well the party was nice, the party was pumpin'/And everybody havin' a ball/Until the fellas started name callin'/And the girls responded to the call/I heard a woman shout out/'Who let the dogs out?'" 2 "Blackbird" by The Beatles

In terms of symbolism, "Blackbird" is one of The Beatles' best metaphors—and no, it doesn't have any aviary connection. The British band was fascinated and appalled by the American civil rights movement happening in the '60s. They wrote the song "Blackbird" after hearing about the Little Rock Nine, a group of African-American students who fought to desegregate the school system in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 2016, Paul McCartney tweeted, "Incredible to meet two of the Little Rock Nine—pioneers of the civil rights movement and inspiration for Blackbird," following a meet-and-greet with Thelma Mothershed Wair and Elizabeth Eckford.

3 "Semi-Charmed Life" by Third Eye Blind

This '90s hit from San Francisco rockers, Third Eye Blind, isn't what it seems. Despite its upbeat sound, the lyrics have a much darker undertone. In a 1997 interview with Billboard, frontman, Stephan Jenkins, calls "Semi-Charmed Life" a "dirty, filthy song" about, well, sex, drugs, and rock n' roll.

"I think people hear 'Semi-Charmed Life' as a happy summertime jam. And that's fine with me," Jenkins said. "I don't think the song should be so blatant that I have to come out and say, 'Couples who take speed tend to break up, so don't do it.'"

4 "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler

This breakup ballad is not about your typical "boy meets girl" scenario. In fact, Jim Steinman who wrote the song for Bonnie Tyler, told Playbill that he based the song off a fantasy about vampires. No joke. It was originally called "Vampires in Love," which explains all the creepy lines such as, "Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time/I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark."

5 "Waterfalls" by TLC

Who could ever forget this carpool-karaoke staple? You loved singing the 1994 TLC hit, but you may have overlooked the song's serious subject matter. It's actually about the AIDS epidemic, as referenced in the line: "His health is fading and he doesn't know why/Three letters took him to his final resting place."

"Anything that's self-destructive, that's chasing a waterfall," singer Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas told The Guardian. "We wanted to make a song with a strong message—about unprotected sex, being promiscuous, and hanging out in the wrong crowd." The music video furthered this message by showing a kid dealing drugs and a man contracting HIV.

6 "Slide" by Goo Goo Dolls

Don't be fooled by this popular 1998 song by the Goo Goo Dolls. "Slide" is not a love ballad, but rather, a story about an unplanned pregnancy. In a 2018 interview celebrating the 20th anniversary of the album Dizzy Up the Girl, lead singer Johnny Rzeznik told Billboard, "I was thinking a lot about the neighborhood I grew up in. 'Slide' is about a teenage boy and girl. They're trying to figure out if they're going to keep the baby or if she's going to get an abortion or if they're just going to run away. They're dealing with these heavy life choices at a very early age. Everybody grew up way too fast."

Don't believe it? Just take a glance at these lyrics: "Don't you love the life you killed?/The priest is on the phone/Your father hit the wall/Your ma disowned you."

7 "Macarena" by Los Del Río

The choreographed moves are almost as iconic as the tune itself. But this '90s Spanish cult-classic isn't as innocent as our childhood memories would expect. The rhythmic hit is actually about a woman who cheats on her boyfriend (with his two friends!) while he's being drafted into the army.

8 "Harder to Breathe" by Maroon 5

Maroon 5's breakout album, Songs About Jane, may be full of steamy love songs, but "Harder to Breathe" is not one of them. In fact, it is actually about a different suffocating relationship—with the group's record label.

"That song comes sheerly from wanting to throw something," frontman Adam Levine said in a 2002 MTV interview. "It was the 11th hour, and the label wanted more songs. It was the last crack. I wanted to make a record, and the label was applying a lot of pressure, but I'm glad they did."

9 "One Way or Another" by Blondie

Blondie frontwoman, Debbie Harry, pulled from personal experience to create the '80s rock classic, "One Way or Another." But, what sounds like a cat-and-mouse game between lovers is a scarier situation in reality. "I was actually stalked by a nut-job so it came out of a not-so-friendly personal event," Harry told Entertainment Weekly. "But I tried to inject a little bit of levity into it to make it more lighthearted. I think in a way that's a normal kind of survival mechanism. You know, just shake it off, say one way or another, and get on with your life. Everyone can relate to that and I think that's the beauty of it." 10 "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People

This head-bouncing bop sounds like it has simple origins about a teenager with sweet new shoes. In reality, it's trying to raise awareness for mental illness and gun violence, as seen in the chorus: "All the other kids with the pumped up kicks/You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun."

"I remember that week, there was some shooting that happened, and it really bothered me, because I recognized that it was going to continue to get worse," lead singer Mark Foster told Billboard in 2019, setting the scene of the song's creation. "And then that song popped out."

11 "Gangnam Style" by Psy

As one of the earliest viral sensations—reaching 3.5 billion views on YouTube—Psy's "Gangnam Style" swept the globe with its infectious beat and dance moves. But behind the South Korean artist's lyrics, lies a sharp social satire on the ultra-rich residents of Gangnam, a neighborhood known as the Beverly Hills of Seoul. In the music video, he pokes fun at the   glamorous lifestyle, but even doing that didn't bring him much satisfaction. According to The Atlantic, Psy said: "Human society is so hollow, and even while filming, I felt pathetic. Each frame by frame was hollow."

12 "Born in the U.S.A." by Bruce Springsteen

At first glance, the title track of Bruce Springsteen's seventh album seems as patriotic as patriotic can get. According to The New Yorker, the 1984 hit was even used in Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign. This quickly prompted the Boss to clarify things a bit, saying that "Born in the U.S.A." was "the most misunderstood song since 'Louie, Louie.'" From then on, he played an acoustic version of the hit that made its darker tone—about Vietnam veterans—more obvious to listeners.

In a 1984 Rolling Stone interview, Springsteen said: "When you think about all the young men and women that died in Vietnam, and how many died since they've been back—surviving the war and coming back and not surviving—you have to think that, at the time, the country took advantage of their selflessness."

13 "S&M" by Rihanna

If you thought Rihanna's 2010 bop, "S&M," was about a racy relationship, guess again. The songstress intended it to be about her tumultuous experience with the media. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Rihanna told Vogue in 2011, "The song can be taken very literally, but it's actually a very metaphorical song. It's about the love-hate relationship with the media and how sometimes the pain is pleasurable. We feed off it—or I do. And it was a very personal message that I was trying to get across."

14 "London Calling" by The Clash

Although "London Calling" was known as a political punk-rock anthem in the late '70s, the song was much more relevant to a topic of today's time: climate change. According to The Wall Street Journal, the British band was scared after reading a 1979 London Evening Standard article about the Thames river flooding the streets of London. Originally, frontman, Joe Strummer, focused his lyrics on the subject of drowning but then broadened his approach to include an array of dire circumstances. You can hear it for yourself in the chorus, "The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in/Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin/Engines stop running, but I have no fear/'Cause London is drowning/I live by the river."

15 "Royals" by Lorde

Although the lyrics to Lorde's 2013 hit "Royals" depict the idea of rejecting fame and fortune, the true meaning is literally in the song's title. The New Zealand pop artist was flipping through a 1976 issue of National Geographic, and stumbled upon a picture of George Brett, a Kansas City Royals baseball player, who was surrounded by screaming fans begging for his autograph. In an interview with VH1, Lorde explained, "his shirt said Royals… I really like that word, because I'm a big word fetishist. I'll pick a word, and I'll pin an idea to that."

16 "The A Team" by Ed Sheeran

Soothing acoustics aside, "The A Team" is a melancholy story inspired by Ed Sheeran's experience performing at a charity concert for Crisis, a foundation that helps the homeless in the U.K. After visiting the shelter and hearing their stories, Sheeran went home and wrote the lyrics in 20 minutes. You can pick up some of the references, especially in lines like, "Ripped glove, raincoat/Tried to swim and stay afloat/Dry house, wet clothes/Loose change, bank notes/Weary-eyed and dry throat."

17 "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga

Since she first stepped onto the scene in 2008, Lady Gaga has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and representation. And on her debut record, The Fame, she explores her own bisexuality in the song "Poker Face." According to NBC, the pop star said the song was "about being in a relationship with a man but fantasizing about a woman; hence, the man must read her poker face."

18 "American Pie" by Don McLean

Don McLean's catchy 1970s ditty may be the perfect campfire sing-along, but it's not as happy-go-lucky as it seems. In fact, the line "the day the music died" nods to the tragic 1959 plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, J.P. Richardson (a.k.a. The Big Bopper), and Ritchie Valens.

"The lyrics had to do with the [deteriorating] state of society at the time," McLean told The Guardian. When he auctioned the song's original manuscript at Christie's in 2015, McLean said, "Basically, in 'American Pie' things are heading in the wrong direction. It is becoming less ideal, less idyllic… it is a morality song in a sense."

19 "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan

This Sarah McLachlan song may conjure those sad SPCA animal commercials, but there's more to the tear-inducing tune. According to ABC News, McLachlan penned the piece in memory of Smashing Pumpkins keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin, who died from a heroin overdose in 1996. "The story shook me because though I have never done hard drugs like that, I felt a flood of empathy for him and that feeling of being lost, lonely, and desperately searching for some kind of release," McLachlan wrote on Quora in 2014.

20 "Closing Time" by Semisonic

You've most likely heard this crooner at the end of a late night out with friends. But contrary to popular belief, "Closing Time" isn't about the last call at a bar. Semisonic lead singer, Dan Wilson, actually wrote the piece for his daughter, who was born prematurely. At his college reunion at Harvard in 2008, Wilson told the crowd, "I hid it so well in plain view that millions and millions of people heard the song and didn't get it. They think it's about being bounced from a bar, but it's about being bounced from the womb."

We’re at the S1 finale. Hard to believe. Thank you all for staying on this journey with me it’s been super rewarding. When I started didn't expected the support I got. Also been fun to fill the hiatus with this since we're all waiting for S6. Not sure when this strike will end. So fun to rewatch the series this way. Rewatching s1 with analytical eyes and knowing where they are now has been eye opening. I’ve seen a lot of people writing about how writers said Chenford wasn’t meant to happen this early on. Idk that’s true with the incredible foundation that has been laid in s1.

The beautiful base that continues to solidly with each ep. Especially this finale. I think the finale is when if you hadn’t been shipping them before you were after this ep. I was all in day one I just knew it would be a slow burn before we got there. Also Eric and Melissa are amazing together. Drew me in right away. Their chemistry is unparalleled. Can’t deny that. Like I said in my first review I started watching for Nathan and Eric. Never knowing the beautiful ship I was gonna get along the way. Anyways off to the finale we go :)

It’s the week of their big test. It decides whether or not they get to continue on in the FTO program. You can get a score as low as an 80 and pass. To the T.O.’s that’s a fail. Tim tells a Lucy if she gets anything less than a 93 it’s an insult to him LOL Lucy doesn’t even let it phase her how far we’ve come. She continues on asking what he’s going to do with all his free time when she passes?

Tim is confused at first then realizes she’s talking about her daily evals. She suggests a book club haha Tim as far as he’s come is still Tim in T.O. mode around others. Gotta keep up the hard ass act. Tells her ‘Whether I evaluate you daily or weekly. I will continue to judge you every minute.’ haha damn Tim way to shut down her playful banter lmao

First call of the day for our lovely duo is at a psychic shop. Silent alarm has been tripped. Guy is going after this psychic because she ‘saw’ he killed his wife and is losing it on her. It was a fluke she figured it out and she says as much haha Afterwards she brazenly hits on Tim and he has no idea how to handle it.

His embarrassed face is everything. He wasn’t expecting that at all. It’s like he doesn’t know he is gorgeous ass man. The way he looks back at Lucy is priceless. Like please help me baha Lucy is enjoying it immensely. Her face says it all I’m dying. She isn’t helping him out of this one. He awkwardly walks away from the psychic it’s too damn funny. Tim Bradford left speechless. What world we live in haha

After a light start to their day it comes to serious halt. There’s a deadly virus and possible outbreak they all have to prevent. This came from the dead body Nolan and Bishop found earlier at the bus station. He was tied into the terrorist threat. This postpones their test naturally. Lucy and Tim are tasked with talking to one of the citizens that took same bus as this guy.

As they’re rolling up to this guys house Lucy says she thought the test was going to be the most stressful part of her day. Tim tells her best case scenario it’s tomorrows problem. Lucy makes a nervous joke 'What’s worst case scenario? Never mind don’t answer that' haha Oh Lucy the most stressful part of your day starts now.

The gentleman thinks they’re there to bring back his luggage. Tim enters the bedroom without Lucy. They tell Pete they are there just to interview him. He pulls out the bag he grabbed by mistake and shows Tim the ‘weird science equipment ‘inside. That he cut his finger on it looking for an address. Tim’s red flags are immediately up when he says this. Lucy can instantly tell something is up but Tim tells her to stay at bay. First instinct is always to protect her. Tim see’s the guys cut finger and alarm bells are going off for him. Lucy calls it in while she waits outside the bedroom for Tim.

The guy then coughs up blood on Tim. He freezes and looks the most panicked I've ever seen him. I LOVE how Eric can express so much with just a look. He's such a good actor I can not. After he collects himself a bit he hears Lucy coming to check on him and shuts the door instantly. Despite Lucy yelling ‘No!’ When he does.

Tim refuses to let her be around whatever this is even a second. Creating an immediate barrier to keep Lucy safe. He locks the door to keep her out there. Pete starts to freak out. Tim tells Pete that his partner has called an ambulance for them. Makes me happy while he’s trying to keep this guy calm he calls Lucy his ‘partner’ not his rookie but his partner. It’s the little things ❤️ Lucy is panicking like crazy on the other side of this door. She wants to be let in to help him. It’s killing her they’re separated right now.

Lucy is begging him to leave that guy in there and join her outside. Tim being the honorable man he is refuses to. Tells her they need to keep this as contained as possible. Lucy is panic stricken and wants to help him but is trapped outside. Tim is doing his best to keep her calm. The words he says I think are for them both. He just had blood spewed onto him. Tim is being as calm as one could be in that type of situation.

He’s the one in danger and his first thought is to put Lucy at ease. To try and keep her calm. To 'keep her head in the game' If she could see his face as he says these things...She would see how very not fine he is. The most rattled we’ve seen him the entire season. This moment and honestly this entire episode is definitely another huge crack in his wall with her. Letting that Lucy light seep in just a little bit more.

The CDC finally arrive and they set up a quarantine zone much to Lucy's dismay. She’s on the edge and wants to get Tim out of there ASAP. Can’t stand the idea of him sitting in there for an hour or more while they wait for the vaccine. Dr. Morgan asks him if she can put him to work while he’s in there. Tim says yes. Lucy tells him to please be careful while he’s in there. Such a worried wifey.

Tim uses his body cam to help them see inside the bag more. They figure out how they’re going to spread it through a mist fan. As Tim continues to search the bag they see Pete lifting a chair. Lucy freaks out and yells for Tim to watch out. All they see is him getting knocked out. Lucy is losing her mind outside not knowing what’s happening in that room. The absolute terror in her voice. My heart. How helpless she feels on the other side of that door.

Tim wakes up inches from the blood stain on the carpet rolling toward him. He’s able to get away from it and tases Pete. After that Tim gets him locked to the bed frame. All the while Lucy is losing it outside. Desperate to hear from him. Calling out his name multiple times. Begs Tim to answer her. She is out of her mind with worry. If she was allowed to break that door down she would.

Tim finally responds to Lucy tells her that he’s ok. She asks him if he’s really is. Because she knows him and how he tries to put a strong facade for her sake. Tim attempts to make a joke about it. His voice cracking a bit with worry. Trying to make jokes about this but his armor has been cracked. This a deflection right now more than anything else. His vulnerability coming out of him with her whether he likes it or not.

He can't hide anything from her and and Lucy picks up on his worry quickly. Knows he's attempting to mask how he is really feeling right now. She can hear it in his voice. From there she turns into ultra worried wife mode. She demands they get that damn vaccine here right now. She is losing her patience while he’s trapped in that room without her. Love me some assertive/worried Lucy.

I can't imagine what he is going through all by himself in that room. Poor Tim has to sit there and watch this guy die right in front of him. Can't help the man just has to sit there and watch him die. The look on his face ugh. The utter terror on his face. Lucy is already freaking out if she could see him…she would break down that damn door virus or not and drag him out of there.

Next begins the iconic wall separation scene. As I said earlier if you weren't shipping them before you sure as hell were after this moment. Lucy tells him she just checked with Dr Morgan. That the vaccine is minutes away. Tim instantly knows this is a lie to comfort him. Its here we see a chunk of his wall break off and hit the ground as he compliments her. Naturally she’s going to rib him about it (because she can't actually process when he does compliment her) but it's also to keep his head clear. Just like he's done for her so many times before.

The role reversal is so evident in this scene. Lucy is doing what he normally does for her. Trying to keep him calm by making jokes. Keeping it light. The smile on his face when she ask for it to be in writing is too precious. He needs Lucy and all her sunshine ways right now. He's holding onto to every word she is saying. She comforting/calming him just by being there for him.

This is such a huge moment of vulnerability for Tim. The biggest one of the entire season really. That bond they’ve built up to this point is result of that. Lucy tells him its going be ok that she truly believes that. Tim is so defeated at this point. He doesn't take much stock in her words. Eric and Melissa crush this scene. To have this good of a dynamic with a door between them. My goodness they're amazing. Like I said earlier Eric is incredible with how he conveys what he's feeling with a look. This scene has it in spades. Look at this poor man's face down below. Makes me wanna cry.

You can see his normal resolve is dissolving rapidly. Which is why Lucy is there to keep it intact. Tim looks like he’s on the verge of tears while she’s trying to comfort him. Lucy is trying to be his rock. Its why I think he is spilling his guts to her. He trusts her with his thoughts/feelings. Tim is being the most vulnerable he's ever been with her right now. Telling her everything. That if he ends up showing symptoms he’s not going to allow himself to die that way.

Gotta love Lucy trying to pick up the pieces and keep him together. Being as optimistic as she can while he is hopeless. For him to share such a dark thought is huge. That he would rather kill himself than die like that. He is emotionally exposing himself to her right now. In a way I’m sure he hasn’t since Isabel. This is a massive step for him entrusting her with his thoughts and emotions. Because right now Tim thinks this is it for him. If he's going out he wants to make sure she knows his plans.

Lucy is very aware what he is saying but is trying to talk him out if it. Desperately trying to keep his head level. She finally lets out a tear she's been holding the whole scene. He's considering killing himself and she can't do a damn thing about it. The stress of the situation finally getting to her when she sheds that tear. This is an iconic moment for them. Tim being so openly vulnerable with her and Lucy being there to receive it best way she can. Gah it’s all so good. This scene 'hurts so good' as they say. This moment is a milestone for them and their relationship. Where they go from just TO/Rookie to friends.

The vaccine finally arrives and Lucy tries to follow the doctor in. Dr. Morgan won’t let her since she is not protected. You can tell its killing her to have to stay back. That look they share between them when Dr. Morgan is checking him out. Phew lord. She says he dodged a bullet. The looks in this scene are so telling. These two have a masters in silent communication. That look of worry/panic on her face. She wants to run up and hug him. That clearly isn’t in the cards. So she just intently watches him. Lucy doesn’t take her eyes off him the entire time.

The way he stares back at her and lets her know it’s ok. I’m ok. Even the small smirk towards the end. They just went through something very emotional and intense together. Tim says so much with just a look for her. Yeah he dodged bullet and he did so because of Lucy. She didn't leave his side for a second. He recognizes this and conveys it in a look. Such an intimate moment for them with no words. God I love them.

Before this episode ends Let’s take a moment to enjoy Tim Bradford in a tight white T-shirt shall we? Mmm. Yum. The rest join Lucy and Tim at Pete's house. Having returned from taking down the other culprits. They’re all making jokes now that they know he’s ok. Saying how he’ll refuse to take the ambulance or wheelchair haha

As they’re making their jokes Tim walks to said ambulance. As he does he looks light headed and collapses. All jokes stop and they rush around him. Lucy being the first they hold her back. Thus ends s1 with a cliffhanger.

I think I watched this finale a disgusting amount of times haha I was so eager for s2 and more of Tim/Lucy. To see what happens to Tim in the premiere and all that.

Did love the Wopez in this ep they’re very cute. That’s about it haha very focused on the chenford goodies for this ep.

i think if i was going to propose future expansion for smn i would want it to take a leaf from blu’s book and enable you to like

pick three egis to have equipped to your hotbar/loadout. you can’t swap them in combat (like blue spells) and each egi has its preset skills (so titan will always have buster, ifrit has the gap close, etc). but you could pick and choose from  shiva, ramuh, levi, sophia, sefirot, zurvan, etc

then for the trances you could have something similar, except in addition to baha and phoenix you could have mom and dad, with mom being more support based and dad being more offensive. a more support oriented smn could run mom and phoenix (good for prog),  while dps heavier builds (for clearing/barsing) take dad and baha.

(that or trances would straight upgrade into mom and dad, post 90, but baha and phoenix are more Iconic™ than mom and dad so i doubt it would happen)

there are a lot of reasons this will never happen, ofc, chief of which being that xiv’s job design tends to be pretty Standard Issue - one 90 mch will have the same skills as every other 90 mch, so long as they did their job quests. blu can get away with it because it’s a limited job. i just think it would be neat

Yaampun sedih banget draft yang sudah kutulis banyak ga kesave…huhu (ada fotonya di instastory tapi)

Long story short, tadi udah nulis lumayan banyak padahal… satu halaman hvs A4 sepertinya, tapi laptop kututup bukannya ke-sleep malah ke-restart hadeh...

Intinya di draft tadi panjang lebar udah ngetik ngebahas ide research gara-gara tadi siang sebelum Jumatan ku datang ke department seminar bahas tsunami volcanogenic di Fogo. Karena udah kehapus draftnya dan udah ga berapi-api lagi, ku-skip aja ya bagian excited sama researchnya. Eh tapi masih paling excited sama tsunami yang digenerate oleh atmospheric shockwave (based on recent Tonga eruption) yang disuggest juga merupakan penyebab tsunami pas Krakatoa 1883.

Terus di draft tadi ku menulis terputus-putus: sambil nunggu sample di-microwave, setelah beres ngextract, plus sambil dinner di Angrid. Ujung-ujungnya ilang juga sih ya…

Intinya juga (lagi) habis dari dapet research ideas itu kan jadi googling banyak banget paper ya, terus  somehow jadi stumbled upon biografinya Ron A. Harris??? Salah satu penulis paper Timor yang dulu jaman skripsian sangat banyak w baca. Terus paling menarik sesungguhnya adalah: di page biografi itu beliau menuliskan research grant dia apa aja. Salah satunya adalah Geoscientists without border! Itu programnya SEG dan gaada afiliasi samsek ke Doctor without border.

Si grant Geoscientists without border ini lumayan banget btw nominalnya: $50,000/year dan bisa apply for 2years program! Wah, w sepulang dari Ox fix banget akan propose ini sih. Tapi emang paling susah tuh nyari credibility sih. Kemungkinan organisasi international kaya SEG/AAPG/IAS nerima proposal yang ditulis fully sama non-native English speaker kecil banget. Jadi kemungkinan besar ya harus gaet warga US/UK/EU supaya bisa  makin gede possibility lolosnya. Semoga nanti Tamsin mau deh ya ngikut gini-ginian.

Terus apa lagi ya… mau report aja deh seharian dan semingguan ini ngapain. Hari Jumat ini cukup produktif sih sebetulnya. Pagi nyuci white tubes dan caps yang masuk ke microwave. Siang dateng seminar departemen. Solat Jumat. Terus jam 15-an mulai ngerjain extraction. Hari ini mayan chaos tapi: w mecahin satu glass tube, ottoke. Belum bilang ke Stuart sih, probably Senin aja baru email deh.

Terus hasil extraction hari ini bodor banget. Si sampel 4 immature itu masih banyak organicnya yang nyisa dan belum ekstraksi!!! I think emang gaakan bisa deh cuma sekali microwave… tapi harus berapa kali dong… masa ujung-ujungnya nge-soxhlet juga… hhh harus banyak baca lagi w. Anyways…

Nah dari lab beres jam 19-an, terus makan di Angrid… pulang… tadinya mau nonton drStrange ke Curzon tapi adanya tinggal jam 21 banget dan udah gaada tempat duduk asik…

Sampe rumah tau apa yang terjadi??? Ditelpon Mba Nufis doi curhat tentang supervisor 1-nya yang ANEH banget, jujur denger cerita spv orang aneh-aneh tu jadi bikin ku bersyukur banget spv ku baik  hati dan tidak sombong. Betul-betul 2 jam w ditelpon cuma geleng-geleng kepala aja keheranan. Terus yaudahdeh sekarang jadinya ini 23.01 pm baru mulai lagi menulis ini.

Kemarin juga Alhamdulillah dapet produktif sih. Ngeplot hasil running Lumex yang ekstraksi pertama, ngirim ke Stuart dan Joost dan tadi pagi dapet balesan. Stuart sama Joost pinter-pinter dan helpful banget, lagi-lagi superbersyukur dikasih postdoc dan spv yang baik-baik, makasih YaAllah.

Kemarin Kamis juga Ujang randomly ngajak ngecoklat jam 14pm jadi kami ke Knoops dan ngobrol lumayan lama… sejam ada kayanya. Pas lagi duduk-duduk menikmati matahari depan Weston library  tiba-tiba ada bapak-bapak nyamperin: “kayanya familiar nih sama bahasanya…” ternyata orang Indonesia. Dia sama anak dan istrinya lagi jalan-jalan aja di UK karena lebaran lumayan lama liburnya. Mereka mau ke Bicester juga jadi Ujang kasih arahan gimana caranya ke Bicester dari Ox karena ku personally belum pernah.

Rabu ngapain ya… oh in term of kerjaan not doing much. Masih nge-merge comments dari Alex dan Erdem ke dokumen hasil merging comments Tamsin and Hugh. Terus ya itu, ngelist apa-apa lagi aja yang masih harus dirapiin. Sorenya formal Eid di Exeter ku mengundang Dwi dan Annisa-nya Jamal. Senang banget main sama Aim (anaknya Jamal dan Nisa) di Fellow Garden.. Aim berkali-kali ngasih w batu terus kata Jamal juga bahkan sampe besoknya masih nyariin “tante kerikil”,  yes that’s what  he called me.

Formalnya mainnya adalah biryani yang I’m sorry to say tapi betul-betul tidak enak dan tidak ada rasanya. Jadinya nggak habis deh. Terus pas formal ngobrol banyak banget sama ibu-ibu keren ini. Kebetulan sampingku adalah Alya guestnya Teh Kaca, Alya ini anak HI UI 2014 yang lagi ambil master di UCL, anak LPDP. Seru dan senang ketemu anak-anak master tu, masih yang semangat dalam hidup, membuatku jadi kembali termotivasi belajar. Di formal sebetulnya rame juga ketemu banyak orang: ada anak MPP (Gita, Cita, Agung), terus Neema, Saba. Paling keren adalah formal eid kemarin perdana diadakan di Exeter after 700years Exeter berdiri! Betul-betul making history ya kita. Oxford for inclusivity!

Sayangnya walaupun rame, pulangnya harus buru-buru karena Athian mau ngambil raket ke rumah. Sayang banget tapi sama Athian karena dia ada mobil (mama dan adiknya lagi ke UK karena lebaran) terus jadinya kudijemput dari Exeter buat pulang ke Headington. Sampe rumah lumayan rame karena Kalina ngundang Jake dan beberapa teman lain for dinner. Tapi karena w sudah lumayan cape, I decided not to join them and went straight to bed.

Selasa Senin jujur lupa ngapain… Lah Senin mah kan lebaran ye. Wait, ku nulis terakhir kapan sih… Lah iya Selasa… tapi lupa what I exactly did on Tue, kayanya went through ms draft aja juga deh…

Iya tapi this week went by so fast, cukup kaget. Besok akan ke London ada lomba cerdas cermat olim PPI UK… I should play badminton too, tapi nasib kaki begini ya mau gimana lagi…

Minggu mayan padet sepertinya kelas pagi DD dan 16 back-to-back jam 7am-12pm. Terus bisa istirahat 2,5jam… jam 15pm ada picnic Oxonis di port meadow dan jam 17pmnya diajak Wian buat datang acara lebaran di tempatnya Inda. Wow…. Terus besoknya Senin lagi imagine… Semoga besok Sabtu balik dari London ga malem-malem banget deh ya… butuh waktu untuk nggak ngapa-ngapain sendirian soalnya ☹

Anyway, itu aja sharing-sharing update kehidupan saya belakangan ini. Suatu bukti bahwa ku makin harus banyak bersyukur karena kalau ku bisa menulis banyak artinya ku perlahan keluar dari kubangan depresiku dan mentally getting better.

Semoga teman-teman (terutama yang di Indonesia) get the best out of your 10-day holiday berkumpul lagi bersama keluarga, makan-makan enak, visit places you’ve always wanted dan get refreshed to get back to work! Happy weekend all!!!
