character refs/designs for the jacred au, an au/pseudo-pokepasta taking place in a Really Funky ROM Hack. idk why i went for this art style and idk if i’ll keep it, i think it’s bc the contrast between the style and subject matter was funny to me at the time. also red looks like the archetypical “red and black and edgy all over” creepypasta villain, it’s a stylistic thing and doesn’t reflect how he looks in-universe (and it’s color-picked from his gen 2 sprite).

anyway. character info (w some recap for ppl who didn’t read/see my original post about this au/story)

leaf

initially assumed to just be a vessel for the player’s thoughts and actions, has now demonstrated that she has a personality/motivations of her own and sees the player just as they see her: a force to work with to further a goal (although the stakes are higher for her).

immediately suspicious of blue, but unable to actually do anything about it until much later.

refuses to let red vicariously relive his adventure through her, wanting her journey/story to be her own. however, she is willing to work with/tolerate his cryptic bullshit to get to the bottom of whatever’s going on with her rival.

she has blastoise in this au. not super important lore-wise, just thought people should know

blue/“red”

exploited the changes brought about by the hacking process to take over red’s body and essentially force him out of the story/narrative. his reasoning for this is because every save file, he’s lost his reputation, position as champion, and the respect of his grandfather, becoming extremely jealous of red and deciding that he’ll never win if he tries to defeat him; he has to be him.

he’s still leaf’s rival in the story, he just has red’s appearance (or sprite, from the player’s perspective). he starts to go off-script from his usual banter as soon as he realizes that leaf thinks something’s up, becoming much more hostile to her (but being unable to actively stop her from progressing through the story).

forcibly fused his pokemon with red’s team (the one used in hgss) during his final match as champion as a last resort to get leaf out of the way for the time being and buy himself more time. it didn’t work and she still defeated him, taking his position as champion.

he’s conspicuously absent from the postgame (as “red” or his normal self). he’s actually stuck in the same space red occupies (at least until/unless the player restarts the game, which they likely won’t for a while after discovering the main 3 game characters are sapient beings).

red

occupies an anomalous space within the game that leaf enters every time the player tries saving the game. the game only saves properly after they answer his questions/talk to him.

doesn’t speak, just communicates through (initially) neutrally-worded dialogue prompts and questions. he tends to be very cryptic in these instances, much to the player and leaf’s collective frustration. he’s also aware of the player’s occasional attempts to skip his “dialogue”, deliberately slowing down the text speed and (temporarily) freezing the “b” button in response.

not evil by any means, but initially only sees leaf as a means to depose blue and regain his role as the protagonist. he stops and leaves her alone after arguing with her just before the elite 4, but not without telling her that she has to become champion for the game to (hopefully) be restored to normal.

he remains absent during the elite four and postgame, despite the player’s occasional attempts to have leaf re-enter whatever space he occupies.

Butterfly Soup Asks #17

The squad playing Overwatch, yaoi hands, and more! man I still have a lot left in my inbox after this...

I’ve spent an obscene amount of time playing Overwatch so I have many thoughts on this Neither Diya nor Noelle have ever played a first person shooter before, but Noelle studies many strategy guides and videos to prepare beforehand.

Following her research, Noelle chooses Symmetra after memorizing the optimal turret and teleporter/shield matrix placements for each map. Symmetra is a good hero for inexperienced players because she doesn’t require aiming skills, but secretly, Noelle likes her because she is focused and serious. She’s scandalized by her default outfit, but can’t afford to get the Vishkar/Architect skins

Diya sees the dog helmet on Pharah’s Anubis skin and instantly unlocks it, automatically setting her as a Pharah main. Diya is the type to happily choose Pokemon based on cuteness instead of practicality, so this is typical Diya

Min ONLY plays these 4 attack heroes, in this order of preference:

Reaper (cool and edgy)

Genji (sword is a long knife. only chosen if the above is taken)

McCree (cool. only chosen if the above is taken)

Soldier 76 (a soldier, cool. only chosen if the above is taken)

She’s mechanically very skilled, but in her 100+ hours in game she’s never even ONCE selected a tank, defense, or support hero, not even in skirmish or training, not even when she’s the last one to choose and there’s no healer. Literally 0 minutes on her career stats.

Akarsha is an ironic Torb main and also a useless Sombra. During their first game together:

Noelle: How is that one you?

In spawn, Noelle can see Akarsha as Sombra with the Battletag “RedFart”

Sombra: (smugly) Hack the PLANET.

Sombra: (annoyingly) Miss me?

Noelle: .......... (the game hasn’t even begun yet and she’s already seething)

Diya manages to get a triple kill with concussion blast through sheer luck before accidentally killing herself with her own rocket. Min constantly spams “I need healing!” in impossible to heal locations, or when she's already being healed but doesn't notice. Whenever she dies she goes “res me”. Akarsha is nowhere to be found. In the kill feed, Diya has managed to accidentally kill herself again with Rocket Barrage. Noelle switches to Mercy and Min blames her for “not healing fast enough”. Eventually, infuriated, Noelle just screams into the voice chat “FINE! DIE ALONE, YOU FOOLS!!!!” and lets her teammates at critical health perish at her feet

the match ends in defeat but Diya got POTG for her triple kill

Noelle: Akarsha, what were you doing this last match?

Akarsha: Turned invisible

Noelle: YOU'RE NOT ACCOMPLISHING ANYTHING WHILE INVISIBLE

Akarsha: There should be a card for “time spent invisible”

Only Min and Akarsha consider themselves gamers. Diya and Noelle will play Mario Kart at other people’s houses but don’t regularly play games Akarsha: besides DS games like Ace Attorney, she’s particularly addicted to MapleStory

Min: plays more console+pc games, likes CoD and Team Fortress 2

Sakura, Yuki, and Akarsha have all watched magical girl shows at some point. Akarsha’s favorite one is Madoka Magica.

Akarsha likes a lot of Ace Attorney characters and her favorite is Phoenix, she finds him relatable. However, if you ask her, she will answer “Spark Bruschel” (below)

She dreads it starting from the night before the presentation and have trouble falling asleep from anxiety. As the time to present approaches she’ll get more and more nervous and sweaty to the point that she won't have an appetite and her stomach hurts

As she's presenting, if she has note cards or a powerpoint to read off of, she stares at that the whole time and reads at lightning speed. Diya has to write down what she's going to say word for word, she can't just put chunks and phrases on note cards because she wont be able to construct a coherent sentence. her life flashes before her eyes whenever she stutters or messes up a sentence

If she doesn't have anything to read off of, she stares at inanimate objects instead of the audience, completely blanks out, and sometimes when she can't recover from that she panics and tries to end the presentation prematurely by suddenly going back to her desk. just bad all around

Noelle has good posture, the others are all pretty eh and slouch sometimes. In particular, Diya slouches a lot when she’s with Noelle because Noelle was taller than her in elementary school and Diya still isn’t used to the fact that she outgrew her.

It’s similar to how Min’s brain actually can’t fully process that she’s way shorter than Diya. When confronted directly with the fact Min will acknowledge it, but it hasn’t really sunk in, at all. Diya was only a little bit taller when they were kids, so in her gut that’s how it’ll always be. I experience this with my childhood friends too LOL I still instinctively feel like I’m taller than my friend who’s now like 5′8″ (I’m 5′2″)

I feel like Diya and Hayden have long-ish hands because they’re big, but not yaoi hands level i dont know what to say

(For those who don’t know, the song lyrics say “Her name is Noelle”) Yes, and this also reminded me that whenever Christmas songs say “Noel”, Akarsha annoyingly points it out like “it’s you Noelle”

It came from leftover dinner from the night before, which Noelle’s mom cooked

OMG...I hate miscommunication as a cause of conflict in stories so don’t worry, there’ll never be a choice with disastrous consequences like that in any of my games!

I’m really glad to hear this, I sometimes wonder “should I have made them older?” but this is ultimately why I made them the age they are! I think a lot of people in their 20s instinctively feel 14 is too young because they’ve forgotten what they themselves were like at 14. I kept journals so I have evidence haha

Sonic 25th anniversary art book review

Hey guys, it’s Shadow. I bought this book. And I’m really emotional about it.

This review will feature a lot of pictures to prove my points.

TLDR; Don’t buy the book. Just ask me if you want a picture of anything. I believe other ppl already made scans of the good pages but If you want me to I can make scans of the few pages that atually do have concept art.

edit: you can buy the book ofc i just think its not worth it, mostly when you are poor as fuck like me and u go in for an investment. (though it would help maybe getting another, better one? I’m kinda conflicted here)

Onto the review:

Fist of all: this book is bigger than you think.

This is an intuos pen&touch small as size ref

The book weighs a ton and the quality of color and pager is amazing! 10/10 for quality. The binding seems lovely too.

Opening up you immediately feel the sonic atmosphere and you are greeted with text that i was unable to read because it had long ass fucking text in unnecessary passages.

I guess it could be of interest for some hardcore fans, or people who know nothing about the series at all, but as a fan it is very disheartening to see a fuckton of text about one single game, and then have other games completely dismissed from existence.

Sonic and the secret rings was totally left out and not mentioned once in the book, design changes like they happened in riders were not explained.

But. I need to get back in track and start with some formal stuff here.

The book has 245 Pages.

About 160 of those pages are dedicaded to the classic games ( 7 first years of sonic the hedgehog)

(pictured is the distribution between classic area 1991-1998 on the left; and the entire rest of sonic to the right)

And, don’t get me wrong, I would not be mad about this if there was actual good content like tons of sketches and level concepts! But there’s none of that.

instead we get this:

Huge prints of ingame sprites. A fuckton of them.

It’s nice to see how they designed the enemies but why Did they print out pixelated sprites so huge and with so much care for clean back grounds and then have messes like this

These two pages are the only ones in which these characters were ever mentioned at all.

Blaze’s debut game, Sonic Rush, was not mentioned once except for the little “info” on her page saying that she did actually debut in this game and it did, infact, exist.

We get worse pages, though.

These two are the only pages to 06 that we do get to see, and silver didn’t even get a double spread page. They just slapped the sketches on there, tiny, crowded.

Disrespectful.

How did they introduce other characters? Let’s have a look at a classic character!

(he got one more double page of art with him and sonic together and he is seen in multiple other art pieces for other games throguhout the book. He’s also on one of those cool pages that you can extend out for a parnorama of chemical plant)

The last character to get one of these is Shadow.

I thought: hey cool concept art! I can’t wait for everyone to have concept pages vs Final pages! Mostly cant wait for the silver one haha (we all know how that ended)

Boom shadow from 2016??? But boom came out 2014 ??? (they got that right w all other charcaters)

What comes right after that boom shadow, though? Big the cat.

and after big comes this disgrace.

This is the first time we see our God of Destruction: Chaos. And, besides a sonic battle spread, it is the only time. We don’t get to see perfect chaos. We don’t get to see SADX concept sketches. all we get is this:

It’s the same hue of orange. Why is it the runners model? We don’t know. Theres no concept of the echidna tribe, nothing to the lore...

Infact, the only modern game they offer concept art of is SA2.

Like w the classics they gave us stuff like this

Maybe I’m the biased one who thinks of Modern games to be of importance and for them to be more aesthetic and pretty and all that (i mean its mainly bc my fucked up brain cant process the classic games, too much color, too much going on, too sharp on the eyes)

but is it too much to want an even spread between classic and modern? To want justive for all the amazing characters?

If you didn’t get the book yet, then please dont. It’s not worth your money.

There are 5k prints of this book, and I sure as hell hope that there will be 5k disappointed fans.

Chris Brown finds “F.A.M.E” By Chantel C. Embers

Over the last few years, Chris Brown has been nothing less than a public relations nightmare.

At first it was all of the controversy surrounding his domestic battery case for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Then, he caught a lot of heat for going on a homophobic rant during an argument on Twitter.

Radio stations had just begun to put his music back into regular rotation when he decided to throw a temper tantrum on the set of “Good Morning America.” However, the immense amount of talent Brown showcases on his latest album, “F.A.M.E,” proves he is still a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

Brown declared “F.A.M.E” stands for “fans are my everything.” The album debuted at number 1 of the Billboard charts and serves up a plate of perfectly blended musical genres. It effortlessly transitions from gritty hip hop tracks like “Look at Me Now,” to infectious dance tracks like “Yeah 3X,” as well as radio friendly pop tracks like “Next 2 You” which features Justin Bieber.

Thanks to Brown, many people have found themselves humming to the catchy and melodic chorus of his hit song “Duces.” He even samples Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” on his latest single “She Ain’t You.”

“F.A.M.E” also features appearances from Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Tyga, Kevin McCall and Benny Benassi.

Brown’s voice is never overbearing or overshadowed by the heavy bass and 808’s heard throughout the album.

His versatile voice is soothing and hypnotizing on ballads like “Up to You” and “All Back,” but also vibrant and striking enough to shine through on up tempos such as “Say it With Me” and the newly popular “Beautiful People.”

On the mid tempo “Should’ve Kissed You,” Brown expresses his frustration with not being fearless enough to share his feelings with someone he has a crush on. He switches things up when he raps and sings on the dance track “Oh My Love,” a song very reminiscent of the style of music the Black Eye Peas are known for releasing.

“F.A.M.E” goes back and forth between light-hearted and innocent lyrics to more explicit adult content. Brown sings about dancing, partying and having fun, as well as being in love, falling out of love and everything in between.

Surprisingly, he steers away from addressing any of his most recent personal experiences on this album. So listeners expecting to gain insight to some of his erratic behavior will come up empty. Still, “F.A.M.E.” is so jam packed with feel good music it is easy to forget about all of his controversy. Unlike the Usher’s and the Beyonce’s who sometimes come off as unauthentic and contrived, Brown convincingly delivers an effortlessly eclectic album.
