Fun reminder: the suits that the Turks wear aren't quite suits. At least not originally.

The first real case I noticed with the suits looking funny was in either the animated film or maybe Advent Children. But if you go back to the original artwork for OG, you'll see the tiny little zipper tag is on the suits there too. ... admittedly I remember them being a single piece but look at Tseng and Rude's jackets and then look at the bottom of Reno's. Zippers!

Now in Before Crisis the details aren't there for them but you get to see the jackets look the same just with different colors.

Crisis Core shows a similar looking suit to the OG. It's hard to tell if there is a zipper at all but it looks the same. Advent Children meanwhile? You see the zippers and the line!

And looking into FF7R, the suits are actually different! And since they used the same designs for Crisis Core remaster... yep, I see the buttons there too.

Game-Year Sephiroth Age Range

The First Soldier- 1992 12-15

Crisis Core- 2000 20-23

Before Crisis- 2001 21-24

FFVII- 2007 27-30

Advent Children- 2009 Immortal probably

Dirge of Cerberus- 2010

*Crisis Core takes place across 2000-2007 because of timeskips. The year and the age is at the beginning of the game. Also, i know nothing about Before Crisis. Google just said it takes place 6 years before the main game so that’s what I’m going with.

I really wish SquEnix would just give us a concrete age cause then I wouldn’t being thinking “hey, Shinra maybe actually sent a PRE-TEEN into battle” not like being a young teen is any better but still. Also i just want to know because i am a nosy bitch. A 3 year range just irks me lmao like, my guy, so much can change in 3 years. I NEED TO KNOW AAAA

Vincent will be made Felicia’s godfather at gunpoint come hell or high water. How dare he not tell Veld he’s alive??? He would have helped bury the body!

Chaos and other demons decide they love Veld actually.

Veld: And you even fathered a child, you bastard. Was I not good enough to be a godfather?

Vincent: *hyperventilating* the FUTURE.

Veld: There is no future. How could you not trust me? I was even going to let you be Felicia's godfather.

Baby Sephiroth: Uncle Vincent murdered professor Hojo!

More Pokémon Holy/Meteor stuff. Nero's little profile isn't here because I have a whole picture of him on the same vein as Vincent's that I'd like to finish eventually. I am missing a handful of characters that would be in the "game," most notably the title's Professor (for which I am still torn between two options and may never settle) as well as Grimoire and Veld, who are both in the story but not technically integral to the main storyline(s).

There's a lot more than this bouncing around in my head but it's a lot so I'll stop with these and the notes below unless people are interested in something specific not covered here. (If so, drop me an ask and I'll happily answer! I love talking about my needlessly complicated crossover AUs, but they are so needlessly complicated that I don't generally just infodump about them.)

Other notes under the cut!

Cloud is the player character; the starting age for a Pokémon Journey in the Midgar region is 14, and he was 16 at the time of the accident, making him 21 during the main story. The storyline reflects this, as Cloud is much older than a standard protag for this series, but he's been out of the world recovering for long enough that he's still got a unique sort of naïveté. (Tifa would probably be the female protag but Cloud is the default here sorry.)

Sephiroth is the main "rival" in Pokémon Meteor, Genesis is the "rival" in Pokémon Holy, although they both appear in both titles and serve the same overall function for the narrative. They are not antagonists.

The Legendary for Meteor is "Jenosynthe," a reference to Jenova Synthesis; Holy has "Omegaia," which is a reference to Omega and to Gaia/Minerva. They have particular connections to Sephiroth and Genesis respectively, and Grimoire's contribution to the plot allows the player to obtain the other title's Legendary post-game.

The Midgar region is the only one to have "Variant" gyms, which focus on regional variants rather than a specific type. This is a new, secondary path with badges that can be mixed and matched with standard type-based gyms to reach the required number of badges to take on the League.

Other gym leaders: Kunsel (Psychic, he battles blindfolded), Reno and Rude (Electric), Yuffie (Hisuian variant), Rosso (Fighting*), Sonon (undecided on his gym but he's here), Weiss (Ground, because I love a stupid reference), and Chadley (secret unlockable Shiny variant gym, only accessible if you beat all the other gyms on both paths, bestows the Shiny charm), as well as others. *Veld's gym used to be Fighting-type but Tseng converted it when he took over following Veld's retirement, allowing Rosso to move out of her previous position with the League and set up a new one.

Other members of Team Helletic: Azul, Rayleigh, Gillian and Angeal (the "multi-generational multi-battle"), Sebastian and Essai (who are under the control of Something), and Shears, as well as others. Hollander was a member until the incident five years ago, which is implied to have led to his death.

Other important NPCs: Cid (the fast travel guy, may work with the Professor), Barret (runs the Pokémon breeding center), Cait Sith (a navi system that shows up through a specific set of sidequests and is revealed to be Reeve's at the end), Shelke (appears in the same sidequests as Cait Sith), Dio (runs a facility for fast EV training), and Johnny (nobody knows why he's here but he sure is), as well as others.

so i just watched the before crisis scene with seph and hojo again

you know a detail i never noticed?

when hojo says seph has grown stronger, seph obviously ignores him and stands there for a sec but right after he absolutely BOLTS off-screen lol

i watched his normal movement in the game and he never moves that fast. he just does his normal coolguy walk.

i mean he’s sephiroth he doesn’t have to rush. he only shoots forward when he goes for elfe but as soon as hojo talks to him? nyoooom 🏃

he really heard his dad talk once and said “bye”

It's weird because Before Crisis was always my biggest indicator of just how much Sephiroth hates Hojo. Mostly because it's the only time we've ever seen them directly interact. Or sort of, considering how Sephiroth refuses to speak to him.

Really hoping First Soldier has an actual conversation between them. The fact that Sephiroth refuses to speak to the man who raised him could provoke so many interesting bits of flashback content.

The Before Crisis guide profile for Sephiroth makes it crystal clear that he discovered he was “literally a tool of ShinRa” in Nibelheim. He appears so briefly in this game but it must be a trend for every mobile game with Sephiroth to not hold back on explaining the position he was in before he went mad.

Midnight thoughts:

So like. What if a big reason Veld cares so much for his Turks has to do with Vincent.

Has to do with the fact that, no matter how much he asked and pleaded, the previous Turk leader refused to look for Vincent or even ask any higher power about what might've happened to him.

Veld likely has no idea what happened to Vincent. Why would Hojo tell him? And Lucrecia couldn't of, considering she was working on Vincent in her lab and furthermore having a mental breakdown.

Veld would never forget, though.

Everytime he lost a Turk, it ate at him. Of course it did.

But at least he knew how they died.

At least he could mourn properly, in most cases.

Plus, this is the same man who thought he lost his fucking daughter, thinking she was dead for a while too– but, as far as I know, he doesn't seem too affected. Veld is so mentally strong, or at least really good at acting like his life is put together.

He is a fucking mess. And he still cares for his Turks and is so damn proud of them??

...Damn, this turned into a rant about Veld. I love him. He's great, I really want him to get characterization outside of Before Crisis.
