Bits and pieces of character design for The Pale Beyond!
I did a lot of sketches to figure out how posing should work for the emotes - some of them made it into the final game!

I don't mind YouTube advertisements before or after a video. I know that if I suffer through 30 seconds of them the content creator gets 1/100 of a penny (yes, that's the actual value, 1000 impressions gives them a dollar.)
but when I'm listening to Bellular go on a rant about Destiny 2's scam of a "starter pack" and an advertisement comes on that has smooth jazz as the music, it's really really jarring and I'm going to hit the skip button

The Pale Beyond
I started a playthrough of this game. And I am in love with it. I've only gotten to the start of week 5, and I feel like I'm about to emotionally devestated VERY QUICKLY. But I love all these characters, and we'll see how it goes. While I'm a little sad there's no real way to customize the First Mate (your POV PC) the fact that they leave it nebulous is AMAZING. I have yet to find any bits of dialogue that they assume anything about you as such. I'm really digging it. Love it. Will update again once I've gotten further in.

Dear Youtube, When I tell you to stop recommending videos from a channel, I DON'T WANT YOU TO IGNORE ME 3 MONTHS LATER! I do not LIKE [Youtuber]. I think he's a giant asshole baby. I do not want to see his face. Anywhere! I don't want his first channel. I don't want his second channel. And I definitely don't want his third channel where all he does is react to other YT'ers reactions to his own videos. Sincerely, FUCK [Youtuber]

Talking about the Undead GM who uses you for free labor, he also runs a crypto pyramid scheme, and harasses night elf players on twitter with jokes about Teldrassil. He's a cop, and always talks about blue lives matters. Rumor has it he's best friends with Steve Danuser and Bellular. Don't join his guild.

Bellular:  Wait, who are Sabellian and Fahrad again?
Me:  Who are Sabellian and Fahrad?  WHAT DO YOU MEAN,  “WHO ARE SABELLIAN AND FAHRAD”?!?!
Tumblr media
And yes, I know lore is huge, and I’m sure there are orc things I would need to be reminded about, too, since my area of obsession is dragons instead.  And let’s face it, Fahrad is a pretty obscure character, even if he is dear to my heart and central to my muse.  I honestly am not making fun of Bellular here, but it was hilariously bizarre to hear someone so well-versed in Warcraft lore forget about two characters who have thoroughly infested my brain for years on end.

Day 153
So for the past two days I have been playing Meowjiro, it’s not a long game, maybe only 3 hours at most. It’s a time management game where you work at a convenience store in order to feed your cat, who is this otherworldly being that splits off into other cats after eating certain foods. It’s a flimsy plot at best, really meant to give an excuse as to why you have all these weird looking cats in your apartment.
I actually like time management games, they give just enough urgency that you’re thinking of the most effective way to get through your tasks but it’s mindless enough that it doesn’t take a great deal of brain power. I also like to play games on occasion that have ‘mini games’ that is a game mechanic that is very simple that takes a second to complete.
But the reason why I’m writing about Meowjiro was because I decided to try and get all the achievements in the game. Since they were very do-able for me, the last ones I needed was simply ‘do this task 100 times’. And while trying to get the last achievement my brain was suddenly thinking about MIchael and Matt from Bellular News who had commented on several occasions how achievements are kind of bad for gamers even though it’s something gamers look for when buying games.
They had mentioned that achievements tend to hijack our brains because of the need to complete them, thereby removing the fun of playing the game. Because when you do anything for an extrinsic motive (such as being paid, earning a reward or getting praise), you tend to lose any intrinsic motive for doing said action (such as finding it interesting, challenging, engaging or gives us a purpose outside of a reward).
And the thing was, my monkey brain (as they liked to call it) wanted to get this final achievement even though the game had long outstayed its welcome. Like I said, the game is probably three hours long, but I played for five hours because that’s how long it took to get the needed tasks from my customers to get that final achievement. I honestly did not need to do it, most of the time I don’t complete achievements because I’m not great at gaming so it was weird that I got caught up in it.
But it made me think of Matt and Michael, and serves as a reminder that if I’m finished the game, unless I still have an itch to scratch, it’s probably for the best to just walk away.
