Also I really hate it when people draw Jasper with a round or pointy jaw... she has a square jaw. She has a beautiful square jaw and y'all can't and shouldn't take that from her.

Just some thoughts on Bravern so far...
I'm on Episode 6 of Bravern and I kinda like it, but I also kinda don't. I have a lot of mixed feelings on it, especially in regards to the character Lulu and how the series chose to introduce her character and her role thus far in the series (I'm not a fan of how they introduced her character with sexual aspects going on - the misconception that Smith was engaging in sex with her - and then now they are going a sort of childish and infantile route with her...It's just...kinda weird and creepy, but not in the usual way). I'm glad with how they've been NOT doing some things with her character (her role with Smith after her introduction hasn't been sexualized since, thank goodness), but the character archetype that they are going with her character so far is also one that I'm not really a fan of for reasons involving issues I have with some aspects of moe and whatnot.
Lulu is very cute though, and I actually really love the diversity in the female characters and their personalities!
I'm also not really a fan of love at first sight and soulmate stuff, so a lot of the Isami and Bravern moments, while humorous in some ways (though also a bit uncomfortable in some ways for me, because I feel like there are some slight consent issues going on) don't really emotionally connect at all either.
The storyline itself also seems kinda all over the place. Like, there is a consistent goal in the series so far, but I feel like a lot of the scenes don't really flow into each other as smoothly as they could or should, so it feels like things are just happening. There is a bit of a tonal whiplash too, due to the random bits of English that get thrown around, sometimes in grave or serious situations, that kind of just throw me for an unexpected loop. It makes me wonder if this is a series that I might like a bit more (in that regards) dubbed rather than subbed.
The character designs lean a bit too into bara (gei-comic) style for me personally (like, Tiger & Bunny character designs are my limit, and like Antonio's design is too much for me in that regards, though I adore his character - I tend to be more of a bishonen fan), but I do LOVE all of the gay subtext and text that is literally everywhere. The ED also is a thing of beauty, lmao. I also think this series does comedy extremely well.
I'm also just really intrigued by how things will go and play out and just how far the gay stuff will actually be pushed (I've seen a clip for a moment later on, so I have some general idea, but I want to see just how far it really goes). It's also nice to see anime original series just pushing boundaries and doing some different things. That's what they are there for.
I'm also open to seeing how things evolve and change with the series (some of the issues that I have might actually get addressed or flip around for me in a later episode). I'm not hooked on the series. It hasn't grabbed me in the same way as Buddy Daddies or Tiger & Bunny did, but I'm still interested and will still continue watching.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts on this series so far. I'm probably going to do a write up after I finish it as well.

Thanks for this post (is it what called bara)?
https://www.tumblr.com/cursedvibes/747018880754515968/gaymanga-some-2005-covers-of-samson-from-wiki?source=share
Edit :
As a long time fujo (fan of BL manga/manhwa/manhua), I don't know this yet. After reading it, maybe it's not for me. I love quite a lot BL magazines, and excited for the latest BL awards in various categories. But I don't get the same enjoyment from reading BL when I read Bara (sorry) ...
In the West it's often called "bara", but the proper name of this genre that's used in Japan is "gay manga" or "gei comics". "bara" literally means "rose", but in this context is used in a similar way as "sissy" or "pansy". It's what the comics used to be called, but that was a long time ago.
You don't seem to be the target demographic for these manga, so I'm not surprised they're not your thing. I generally don't read much BL or gei comics at the moment, but I like the art style of most gei comics much more than of your average BL. And I think these images in particular are really hot. That's why I reblogged them. I'll take bears over some bishonen protagonists any day and exactly that representation is what I appreciate about gei comics.
But you can like or dislike whatever you want, I don't care.

So btw yes that's what I use as a checkmark system for "is it yaoi" so feel free to run your non-yaoi blorbo pairings thru this to see how many points they rack up:
Is it romance between 2 men? EXPLICITLY, not implied. Yaoi is BL. ✅️🚫
[⬆️ this is the only hard requirement. The others are simply standards, if it meets none or minimal of the following, it's probably a different genre of BL. But it doesn't need to meet every single one. It just ideally does.]
Is the story focused on their romance, instead of story? So not a story that just so happens to have romance? ✅️🚫
If there is story, does it lack emotional depth or impact? ✅️
Are the characters, or at least the main focus, a "beautiful boy" (bishonen)? ✅️🚫
Is the pairing based around 1 person who romantically pursues the other, with the other being ambivalence or passively evasive to these advances? ✅️🚫 [the active pursuer does not HAVE to be a stereotypical taller more masculine yaoi-hand-wielding hunk! But... he often is XD... BUT uke and seme dont have to fall into this, theres yaoi subgenres actually that focus on inversion of the trope, etc.] [Seme and uke mean "to attack" to "to receive", to put it simply. They are not yaoi specific, but are taken further than sexual roles in yaoi works- which is undeniably a staple of the genre(s)]
Is there a sexual focus either throughout the work or at points throughout the work? ✅️🚫
Is it NOT bara? ✅️🚫
Is there a lack of women? It doesn't have to mean NONE, but a noticeable lack, especially in roles of importance or relevance. ✅️🚫 (example: a woman may pick up a wallet and return it for a plot point and never be seen again or named. Having reoccurring and relevant women is rare, due to yaoi placing the first and foremost focus on the main relationship at all times, nearly at all costs.)
Is there sexual assault? (Usually connected to seme×uke dynamic) ✅️🚫
There is a total of 9 points you can score.
If you are unsure if it counts- the answer is probably no. But if you're really torn up about it, use half-points.
Ex:
"is there porn?" "No but-" no point
"Is there porn?" "Kinda. Really heavy handed softcore porn." Half point

see i think the issue with most bara is that just generally i dont like old men. i can appreciate guys in their late 30s-40s sometimes but generally id much rather look at a guy in their early 20s. i dont think thats shallowness as much as i think its the fact that im 19 years old and like people that are my own age. so often yaoi made by/for women is more likely to have those types of men but its also way more likely to just have the boring smooth feminine bishonen yaoi hand guys and it just sucks -_-

Reasons why the Fire Emblem franchise peaked at Tellius:
main characters have an actual personality, backstory, individual goals/desires, established flaws, and a character arc
no dating sim elements
the sheer amount of queer coded characters (Kyza, Heather, Ike & Soren, Tibarn & Reyson, etc)
Seriously, Kyza is a silver-haired cat-person with they/them pronouns. They are almost literally the "has blue silver hair and pronouns" meme
the running gag of Ike having absolutely zero interest in dating women
the laguz, which are a race of people who can transform into cats, lions, tigers, wolves, hawks, ravens, herons, and dragons
an anti-prejudice message which, while not perfect, does explore, among other things: being willing to have uncomfortable conversations, classism, the ramifications of war on the underprivileged, and how religious doctrine can be twisted to justify prejudice
Soren and Micaiah being the best narrative foils (sharing nearly identical backstories and strikingly similar stoic love interests, yet having opposite personalities)
a plot that's driven by character actions and motivations and not just something that happens to the characters
the ultimate ally Ike Fire Emblem who doesn't always understand what he's talking about but damn does he have the spirit and the willingness to learn
the greil mercenaries literally inventing the found family trope
not allowing the player to vicariously date whichever scantily-clad anime waifu strikes their fancy
Ike betraying everybody's expectations by, instead of growing up into a heart-throb bishonen pretty boy, evolving into a bara muscle man
Ike also betraying everybody's expectations by rejecting any fame, noble titles, or other fancy gifts others try to bestow upon him, preferring to live the simple life of the everyman, because that's where the true heart of humanity lies
Ike's absolute brutal honesty and snarky one-liners
did i mention that there are characters that can turn into cats and wolves?
Ranulf especially has the most early 2000's high school OC aesthetic possible with his blue hair, ears, and tail, his cheshire cat energy, and his heterochromia. Arguably Ranulf is Claude's spiritual predecessor, with his playful personality hiding a sharp intellect, except Ranulf actually has a paired ending with the male protagonist
I'm not saying PoR and RD don't have their flaws (they're borderline unplayable at times with the difficulty spikes, the lack of support conversations in RD leaves the new units with much to be desired in terms of characterization, the offensive stereotypes of Heather the man-hating lesbian and Kyza the flamboyant femboy, the lack of racial diversity, how much grinding the Dawn Brigade needs in order to become decent units, the English localization team screwing up the translation in several key conversations or outright adding extra content to push their Ike/Elincia agenda, etc)
But in comparison to the newer games, with their blank-slate protagonists, dating sim elements, and lack of attention on creating a cohesive plot that isn't segmented into three or more routes that all only contain a fraction of the entire story...
Well, the Tellius games are just superior.
Like sure, Heather being a stereotypical man-hating lesbian is not great. But I'd rather have that than have a small number of bisexual options that exist solely for the representation points, while also ensuring that they don't have to be bisexual, if the player so chooses, to avoid hurting the feelings of the cishets
So far I have played PoR, RD, Shadows of Valencia, two of the three Fates games, and the golden deer route of Three Houses
Shadows of Valencia was also very good, if too short. And I will forever hold my golden deer students close to my heart. But I really hope that future FE titles start putting more focus on developing good characters and stories, and less focus on things like character customization and player choice. I'm not saying those things are bad, but they're not what I play Fire Emblem for. I came to Fire Emblem for the high fantasy world politics, the world-building, and the compelling narratives. I don't need 10+ romanceable waifus and the ability to change the main character's outfit in my war strategy game.

i really badly want to make an otome game isekai au with sakura and karin
basically: sakura kasugano is an avid otome game player in the real world, playing the magic themed “world academy: magical stars” which has a multicultural theme. the students play as a character named amano (default name minako) and basically, you have three love interests, two that are college students unfortunately (as the school is set up from elementary to senior year of college). the love interests are dan fo-yin, pitiful fire mage from fantasy hong kong, who has a secret inferiority complex and a storyline where he fears his own anger due to his destructive powers and a warning that he has an affinity for dark magic ever since he was a child (which he later is able to control), ryu hoshikawa, a duel wielding light/dark mage with a secret dark alternate personality that comes out under times of stress and danger (which makes him one of the more popular characters due to the whole “superpowered evil side” thing), and cody travers, a prince from fantasy new york who uses wind magic and is flirtatious and fun on the outside, but is secretly revealed to be depressed and empty. (he’s the most popular route next to ryu, but he’s also sakura’s least favorite character because she’s never liked the perverted ones.) the one SHE wanted to pursue, though, was karin edelgard, the villainess, who owns the magic fortune 500 company edelgard industries and harnesses the power of fire. she appears elegant and mature on on the outside, but on the inside she is competitive and ruthless, and also fairly immature in her taunting and teasing. which sakura thinks is really attractive.
anyway the plot is sakura basically wants to impress karin above all else before she draws the attention of any of the love interests, while solving problems among the school and eventually averting a kingdom-wide crisis
(by the way, the most popular love interest is cody travers, followed by ryu hoshikawa and dan fo-yin is in last place because his silly yet cocky demeanor in his first few heart events and his unusual, decidedly non-bishonen appearance (his design in game is very much on the side of “fat armstrong-esque joke character”). he DOES have a dedicated fanbase though, especially with american audiences who played the fan translation, and many people on this aus version of tumblr in the real world called him a wet cat, a scrunkly, a blorbo, and a babygirl, and among bara fans, who draw him in compromising doujin scenarios with the various other male love interests)

Finally unboxed my Figma male swimsuit figures, because I needed more male drawing models that weren't strangely muscular or chunky. And omg the Figma Male Swimsuit Type 2s have such smooth articulation!🤩
When these figures first got announced, someone tried to tell me to throw down another $60 on more S.H.Figuarts Body-kun figures instead, while the Figma Swimsuit Type2 was only $38. "The Body-kuns were better", "they're more anatomically correct", "it's got more articulated joints", etc. Yeah, the Body-kuns are more anatomically detailed, but sometimes I just want to draw some bishonen. I don't always need to see every single muscle. Because the way I sketch, all that detail will be over emphasized, and then suddenly my bishies are baras. x_x; And as for articulation, these new Figma Swimsuits preformed the same pose, just as well as my special edition Rihito Takarai Body-kun! Plus, the Figma joints didn't put up as much trouble when I tried to get them to move. So there. I don't regret my purchase, I saved money, and now I can draw more than one slim bishonen into the same scene. ^-^

Now I know this is fictional so everything can be hand waved by “it’s fictional”, but how is King Avari so muscular? Is he into bodybuilding? Is he on steroids?
Most of the other guys look like bishonen and then there’s King Avari. King Avari look like he came out of a bara manga.
I know there are some girls and women who are into his body type, but I usually associate the super muscular body type with bara.
