“Who names a kid Malachai? It’s like they wanted me to be evil.”
Shower thought: Was Kai’s name always supposed to be Malachai? That is to say, did Joshua and Mrs Parker decide to name their firstborn Malachi before or after they realized he was a siphon?
The first Parker twins were named Malachi and Josette. Now Luke and Liv are technically Lucas and Olivia, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that everyone calls them by the alliterative nicknames: Luke and Liv.
However there’s a brother Joey which could be short for Joshua, Joseph, Jonathan… won't it have made more sense for the first twins to be Joey and Josette?
I wonder if Kai’s name was supposed to be Joey, to go with Josette. But when Papa and Mama Parker discovered Twin One was a siphon - which as we know can be detected in utero - they gave him a different name because a siphon didn’t “deserve” Joey.

Do you have any tips on writing fanfic that’s not x reader? I wanna start writing for ships such as Klonnie or Bonkai, etc, but I’m not sure where to start since I’ve only ever written x reader fics.
Sharing my mutual Rikki’s post who gave nice advice on this too and provided resources.
Remember to give Bonnie a voice. No matter who she is paired with the other partner will have more room to work with than Bonnie does emotionally. If you think Bonnie didn’t react enough give her the space too. Rewatching certain scenes does help. Same with writing/reading a meta to see what issues to deal. Kat’s old interviews reflecting on Bonnie is a good start too.
Making friends in the fandom helps when you’re struggling. You will always be your worst critic first. There’s amazing and talented people in Bonnie’s fandom on for each ship that would love to hear your ideas!
Practice makes perfect is cliche but it is true. Good luck! Your story is just as valuable as the next. 💜💜

Hi Zal! Of all the ships you've ever shipped, which one is the one you've gotten the most crap on Tumblr or elsewhere for shipping? It can be a canon or non-canon ship. I ship Ross x Rachel, so you know that's earned me more "you must be seriously impaired psychologically and cognitively" hate than any other!
This is an interesting question....I would have to say Bonkai because I got shit from every TVD fandom (except BKers obvs) including SE shippers and people would PM me tweets about how people would really like my metas on SE, find out I ship Bonkai and then basically write off everything I've said and anons have a HUGE problem with context so explaining the parameters with which I ship Bonkai and why Bonkai works for me when Bamon doesn't was a whole thing, and the nastiest anon hate has come from me shipping Bonkai, like DErs will be like 'ur a bitch' or 'fuck u' but Bamon fans would make racist posts about me and I'd have to contact tumblr to take them down, so yeah Bonkai.

Bonkai is just that ship that i’ll never get over even though it’s been over 7 years.
Duuude, me too I can't ever let it go. It's everything I love condensed in a ship:
Magic (for some reason I prefer the way it is described in the tv show than wand magic in harry potter i love magic that is more...chaotic?) , ennemies to lovers, likeable vilain, redemption arc, angst/slowburn, interesting dynamic/complex characters check, compeling side characters and world building, characters who are kindered spirits, and complete eachother, etc...
All of these things 1000% improved by fanfiction writers, and meta/fanon of course. (Because who needs canon, pff)
Even explored in alternate universe / situations Bonkai is still be interesting, I love that we can explore them in so many ways. They are inspiring creatively wise.
Honestly it kinda makes me sad too, because I can't find this particular *thing* they have in other stories lol
So happy I discovered this ship and awesome fandom 7 years ago though! (Can't believe it's already been 7 years already, time flies 😭😅)

What got you into Bonkai? In a time where the show is cancelled and the fandoms aren’t as active as they used to be. And due to a lot of anti-campaigning from the cast, crew, and other shippers Bonkai has sort of become this “oh my god people who ship that are gross” thing. It’s really cool to see that there are still new fans of the ship 7 years later despite all that. Was it fanfics? Was it the actual scenes on the show? Was it a meta?
Haha🤔 that’s such a good question, what got me into bonkai was a bit of everything. The scenes, the fanfics (yellow Ledbetter was truly the first fic that got me drawing again) and meta were just so interesting and exceeded my expectations. I also like that there’s so much exploration and untapped potential that can happen with these two-specifically in understanding the witch world more-which I felt we never really got from the show. So that angle absolutely fascinated me because you can get two very different perspectives on power and magic or familial dynamics from these two characters:) not to mention from a creative stand point, I don’t have to rework kai Parker entirely narratively (he has the least appearances on the show I think) since there’s a lot that was vaguely explained or explored-you could say the same for bonnie as well after her erasure from the show.
So I just like that I can do a lot with them narratively since there’s a lot of room I can work with. But what got me interested as a fan was that no matter how much the writers or director tried to make bonnie undesirable or erased entirely, kai just breathes her into existence without even trying. He just gravitates toward her and makes her the focus and THAT is interesting to me. I like that it’s their own curse when bringing him on the show that they also have to acknowledge that being in love or desiring bonnie is a part of him and without it, it’s not really kai:) so even if the ship didn’t happen or that people don’t agree with it, I just can’t help but return to it because of this specific character trait and design that he will always love her despite the writers and his overall fate as a character. That’s enough for me to want to give this story another chance. This also just kind of blindsided me haha, the ship was an entire surprise, and I’m not surprised often:)

Hey, Megh here. Not sure if you remember but I sent you asks few weeks back.I just finished reading your s6 recap.I agree with with what you had to say about Bonnie and Kai. As much as l like the idea of an irredeemable villain,on a show like this, it's quite obvious why they wouldn't head toward a legit relationship involving the bad guy taking an interest solely on a WOC when they have had main villains and side villains drooling over Bonnie's white friends.I also liked what you said about Stefan's and Klaus's speech even though I don't necessarily agree with the Klaus part(I guess we can agree to disagree).I think the actor who played Stefan did an incredible job in that scene and I will fully admit I watched it at least 10 times and that's like a lot LOT for a cynic like me who's not necessarily sold on them or any other couples on this show. What's interesting though is that the emotional weight and sincerity of "I understand if you need time to heal" was completely tossed out of the window in the first episode of the following season when he says something like " you heal and meanwhile we are friends". At first, I was confused and thought I had misread.Later on, after you replied and linked me to the Dries meta,I could understand parts of it even though not all of it.Something about Stefan that season rubbed me the wrong way and left a terrible taste in the mouth. And then there was that gross sexist mysogynistic surrogate-unpaid nanny to a middle-aged widower plot being turned into overtly sexist suburban wife beaming over foaming dish-pan plot which is nothing but a curated invisibilisation of domestic drudgery of women. It must have been wild for you watching it live back then with all the BTS drama that you hinted at in your speculation if it was such a whiplash for me binge watching.Let's see what you think of it now upon your rewatch.
Hi Megh yep I remember! Yup exactly! It just felt very obvious that as soon as the villain was only interested in Bonnie JP acted like omg you heathens how could you ship Bonnie with such a monster as if ships like DE and KC didn't exist. And ultimately I wouldn't have wanted romantic Bonkai (unless it was some dark storyline like the off arc with SC) but I wanted Kai to continue pining for Bonnie and her not giving him the time of day or using him when she needed much like how Caroline treated Klaus. I don't ship KC or think that scene was anything beyond Klaus giving his intentions of what HE wants from Caroline and not taking her feelings in regard at all. I just mean the love confessions work in Caroline's favor of staying alive because the way this show works is the more men who care about you (especially the high-cachet ones like the Mikaelsons and Salvatores) the better. I absolutely loved Stefan's confession though and the way it's shot is beautiful and I like that it had callbacks. My favorite thing about SC is how many parallels and callbacks they have, sometimes I admit it's not obvious and it's more nuanced than people want but I enjoy it. I cannot stand a lot of the cliche love declarations made on this show and SC was always the one who never felt like that. Even their wedding vows were filled with callbacks.
Oh watching that season live while active on tumblr with an anon inbox AND random spoilers coming from a KC blog took years off my life I think. The good news is I had a bunch of days off from work recently with no plans and decided what better way to spend it then watching that trainwreck again, which means my recap up to episode 12 is done and will be published later today! I completely agree that bench scene was so awkward and probably should have been the biggest hint that season was going to go off the rails. Watching it again was almost like therapy because it confirmed everything I felt and wrote about wrt Dries. I didn't mind crazy revenge fueled Stefan as much as most but I did mind that they kept rushing all of SC's scenes and never had any scenes where they just TALKED about what was going on. It was just such a drastic change from S6. I just finished episode 13 of that season and I did feel like they started to get more on track in episode 11 but it's short lived because of Stefan going on the run.
God the Caroline and Alaric "relationship" still makes me shutter with how disgusting it is. I don't know if it's my hatred for Alaric, Matt Davis being creepy or what but it is a severe low point on the show. I maintain they should have given Caroline a real fiance and we could have had some "crash the wedding" shenanigans with Stefan and Damon. Damon would have caused chaos to stall the wedding while Stefan makes his move or something.

Dark or soft bonkai?
Tumblr media
I DO like them both!! But I guess if I ~had~ to pick one, I'd lean towards dark bonkai 😅To me, darker Bonkai feels closer to their dynamic in canon TVD, so it's easier for me to imagine those kinds of interactions happening between them VS softer bonkai requires me to suspend my disbelief a tiny bit more, bc it's farther away from what we saw of their personalities together on the show.
I also feel like dark bonkai I've read in fanon tends to be more ~out there~ Like the authors feel freer to take more risks with the content that you wouldn't normally see as much on TV, most books, or other ships' fanfics and it feels very uniquely BONKAI, uk?? Take most of @thefudge's Bonkai fanfics, for example - where ELSE would you see Person A feed desiccated Person B MICE in a prison world* or see Person A and Person B literally orgasm while stabbing each other in a burning car**?? Nowhere!! Bc it's so ~specific~ to (dark) bonkai, uk? Even @foxdvlwild's Heathers AU of Bonkai*** was so THEM even tho it was based on the plot and characters of another movie (and that fic was a great mix of dark and soft bonkai)
I like soft Bonkai on its own too, but if it doesn't have at least a ~bit~ of that spicy Bonkai flavor to it, then I don't enjoy it as much bc it feels less unique to bonkai and more like a general fluffy scenario that could apply to any mildly similar ship. And, again, that's totally fine! Those fics are super fun to read too when I'm in the mood for seeing Bonnie and Kai be happy, light and fluffy, but my personal taste while reading tends to skew more towards either a mix of dark and soft Bonkai, or fully dark Bonkai 😁Thanks for your question!!

okay fine...let’s say for fun that kai leaves the pw years after and bonnie is gone. I ignore most of the canon but imho kai would be gone.
bonnie was the key to kai trying to do better. feeling empathy/etc. in pw he says I want to be more like you. and he does try to do that after the merge. he saves her, tries help damon, doesn’t kill liv, tries help bon again (then is betrayed).
idc bon was the key and if you take that key away he will be gone. Imagine a world w/o bon someone kai was intrigued/respected/infatuated with. She was the only person he liked (if you think kai actually liked damon, elena etc um...sorry he doesn’t)
I mean he would just be like what we saw in s8 but worse because he would have knowledge that bonnie is gone.
I don’t want that and would ignore it but kai would be like s8 kai but worse.
The only exception I see is if he found out Bonnie had a child. He would be worse like I said but possibly would become obsessed with her kid because they would be a part of Bon.

So I was thinking about fave BK scenes and I'm gonna add one more
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Gifs not mine)
This scene very much fits with the theme of why I like BK so much: BonKai's inevitable pull on each other. It's literally like magnetism okay, this is science. At this point in time, Kai's been dead for about 3-5 years? Idk. He died because of Bonnie and Damon, he spent his death in hell, but when he gets back, Kai's Bonnie obsession is still making up 100% of his DNA. He had just been begging Damon to speak with Bonnie and after his rejection by Damon (edit: do you SEE what I MEAN about Damon always fucking buffering BK scenes? like boooyyyy you got your own relationship drama to work thru gtfo), he's out here moping and drawing Bonnie hearts.
No one is looking at him. He's not being his usual obnoxious self bc he's not drawing any attention to it ("Damon, ask Bonnie if she can tell I'm sending her a heart!"). He's just thinking about this girl whom he should hate (and to some extent, probably does) and the best way he can think of to summarize his thoughts is ❤. Not 💔 or 💘 but ❤. It signifies that he's not upset about/with Bonnie (💔) or that he blames her/thinks she did something to make him feel this way (💘), but that he understands she's in him and he's cool with that. Doesn't even question it. Hence: ❤
Then my girl out here, barely into her psychic abilities and she just KNOWS it's Kai. That inevitability rearing it's head again. I think it's amazing how she had a hard time sensing Enzo, the love of her life (going with canon here) but Kai she guesses pretty quickly. It harks back in her ability to premonitions as a witch. Her capabilities expand around Kai. The glory.

Despite what happened between kai and bonnie do you think kai misses bonnie after all this time?
100% yes, cuz nothing else makes sense, canonically
so, what really gets me about bonkai is that the writers accidentally set them up as unfortunate forever soulmates because they're connected by so many things, but especially by this one experience only the two of them had and which only the two of them understand. no one else besides bonnie and kai has done the prison world experience completely alone. they're also the two people who have abandoned each other in the prison world on purpose and, in both cases, it felt like a form of personal betrayal. bonnie might have conflicted feelings about damon and elena and the prison world, but they are far less intense than what she feels for kai in relation to this very private experience. like, they had to go and make bonnie an OOC heretic in order to ramp up the drama between her and damon and her and enzo, when this conflict had already developed organically with kai a season earlier.
so, the ugliness and despair the prison world brought out of bonnie is only really understood by kai, and vice versa. like, elena & damon think they can appeal to kai's good/naive side and often underestimate him, but only bonnie knows how to tackle him, warts and all. bonnie is aware that she has a certain pull over kai, while being totally in denial about it. kai is pretty explicit about the pull he feels towards her, but he also plays it off as a fun, flirtatious dynamic when, in fact, it brings up a lot of raw emotions in him. they're both idiots about it, basically.
on top of all that, they're both witches hailing from powerful covens and have been deeply misunderstood by said covens/families. they're both prodigies in their own way and they've both operated with magic on their own, sometimes unorthodox, terms. the similarities only multiply from here.
so, given all that, i'd say kai will always miss bonnie, because she's not only "the one that got away" but literally the only person who could actually put up with him and see him for who he is. she's the only person he'd let himself feel things for. it's made clear that kai's other flings are always pragmatic/based on what he can get out of it. bonnie's that one equal with whom he'd be comfortable being vulnerable, mostly because bonnie has already made him vulnerable so many times. like sure, he also misses the cat-and-mouse games and their chemistry and banter, and i don't think he'd ever let himself be completely soft with her (bc i don't think she'd want that either), but a part of him definitely yearns to be understood. notice how many times he gets angry when people don't keep up or misinterpret his actions/intentions. bonnie is that special kind of enemy/partner that he can always rely on to get him. hell, it's canon that she can sense him through a cellphone.
the funny and bizarre tragedy of kai parker is that, for all his cons and tricks and calculated cold-bloodedness, he will forever be in earnest love with bonnie bennett, do-gooder and righteous witch who constantly decks him on sight. and he very much likes the fact that she decks him on sight. it's the funniest and most painful shit ever. i hate it here.
lol why...am i always in my bonkai feels with these asks

Season 6 pisses me off so bad. The way that season had so much shit introduced to it and just rushed through storylines, never explored them and just dropped others is infuriating. Like why introduced Sarah Salvatore and the flashback about Damon killing her mom if there was never gonna be a resolution to that? That actually would’ve been interesting to see Damon actually be confronted by Sarah. But oh no that would involve a plot where Damon is actually dealing with consequences.
The Gemini Coven
Mama Salvatore
The Heretics
All this shit being introduced and it didnt go any where.
To me Lily should’ve never been introduced.
It’s like they sidelined Sarah for Lily
And the Parkers for the Heretics.
And I have a theory on this.
Sarah would’ve made Damon look like the monster he is.
Whereas Lily creates more manpain episodes for Damon.
Same with the Parkers. They would’ve revolved around Kai and Bonnie. Whereas the Heretics includes the Salvatores. And Plec can’t have that.
It’s kind of amazing that they introduce Sarah with this incredible back story that connects the two brother and their past and their legacy… and put her in a D story with Enzo and Matt. They even model Sarah after human-Elena with the straight hair and jeans and they’re clearly expecting us to draw parallels between her humanity and the brothers being at odds over her … and do nothing with it. It’s crazy.
I completely agree that they shied from giving her story a proper resolution because it would highlight just how horrific Damon is… but that begs the question of why they created the storyline in the first place? And the same thing happened in season 5 by the way: they give Damon this Augustine back story where he’s been systematically traumatizing this family for generations… he murders Aaron, Elena’s newest bestie… and nothing. Crickets.
It’s pathetic how immature the writing around Damon is. The focus should be on moving his character forward, showing him grow and get better… but Julie can’t bring herself to do that because that would mean admitting how horrific he was in the beginning. So we have this kind of Retroactive Redemption where they insert reasons to woobify him:oh look, he was tortured by mad scientists, oh look his dad killed his pet turkey and was abusive, oh look his mom was a bad mom… And a lot of energy is directed towards this retconning of backstory and not moving his character forward.
There could have been room for Lily and Sarah if they were going to use Lily to give Damon a proper redemption arc - where they show that yes, Lily was horrible but he’s grown enough to forgive her, passing on the forgiveness he’s received from so many others. And to reverse parallel this, Sarah doesn’t owe him forgiveness and he never gets it from her and he has to live for that. And it would have been the perfect ending for him to die for her (and Stefan), his family, and not Elena the woman he's been obsessed.
The heretics were such a joke because they introduce them as this frightening combination of two powerful creatures - and the first one dies at the start of season 7 just like any other random vampire. And I can't wrap my head around writing off the entire Parker family. They build up Joshua to be an insidious antagonist in so many subtle ways and he just dies without any resolution with any of his children. His murder attempt of Jo is just swept under the rug.

Yeah I’ve seen people who are hardcore Klaroline shippers and people shipping Reylo but then say “I don’t like Bonkai he aBuSeD hEr! Bonkai shippers are crazy.”
Yeah that happens a lot. There used to be a Kcer that followed me who disliked BK deeply but didn’t mind boosting on end how romantic KC was to them. How much better Klaus is in comparison to Kai. Kai’s apology to Bonnie is labeled as ooc and half-assed. Yet Klaus is supposedly the knight to all of Caroline’s problems. She can look up at him with glossy eyes and tell him he’s in love with her so he’ll do whatever she asks/ the whole you’re not the villain in my story bit.—-(I don’t know anything about Star Wars whatsoever so I can’t really speak heavily on that but I can imagine there too..)
We could go on about how Bonnie isn’t allowed to date the villains or have plenty of men falling over her. How suddenly rules need to apply when it comes to her ships & her ships only. I blame most of this on the writers + white fans. It’s always Bonnie Bennett deserved better but 0 push from those fans(or the writers when the show aired). These “fans” will like a Bonnie related meta, reblog one gif every now and then, write 0 fanfics (if they do Bonnie is mentioned once or twice that’s it.)
Anyways spot the difference here or even here.
When Bonnie fans create a fic/make gifs/fan art and meta etc at least its in favor to give Bonnie that real meaning behind she deserves better.

What is it about Bonkai that you like?
The have an undeniable amount of chemistry. Kat and Chris work well together.
It is Bonnie’s first fleshed out romantic arc since Jeremy (which spawned for most of her time on the series and frankly -even though I love Jeremy - he was a shitty excuse for a boyfriend and the romance was flat).
The Kai storyline in season 6 gave Bonnie agency and allowed her to be powerful while centering a plot around her magic that wasn’t a result of Bonnie sacrificing herself or helping someone else.
Bonnie called Kai out on his shit.
Bonnie got to exact revenge on Kai.
Bonnie defeated Kai twice.
Banter
It’s one half Kai
It’s one half Bonnie
erotic spell casting
It’s hot
It’s complex
Intense stares
It’s was the most interesting romantic Bonnie storyline.
Before that whole Enzo thing (which was lackluster tbh - although I didn’t hate it) it was rare that Bonnie was presented within the narrative as sexy/attractive/the object of desire etc… Damon was fixed with Elena (as were Matt and Stefan but with less intensity), Klaus was fixated with Caroline. Dangerous mysterious men having a desire for the innocent girl is kind of a running theme throughout the show. You can debate the misogyny within that writing but that considered; it does present the image that Bonnie is less desirable and attractive if she doesn’t receive that same treatment as her white counterparts. Sure Jeremy had feelings for Bonnie and expressed as much but he took her for granted and the relationship had a large focus on him and not Bonnie. Bonkai is the opposite in that many of Kai’s actions reflect his infatuation with Bonnie.
It had so much potential
That’s just a few things. (Feel free to add)

At first when I saw that video where Chris Wood says Kai would marry Bonnie, merge with Miss Cuddles and kill everyone else I thought of it as a joke, but now I feel it’s actually in character.
I mean Kai’s been watching Bonnie for about 4 months in the prison world, and saw how important that teddy bear is to her. So he puts it on display when she wakes up, and then brings it to her as a present when they are about to leave the prison world.
And then in 6x15, even though he is not with her anymore he still mentions the bear, he says to Jo “put your magic into a teddy bear and gimme”.
Even in Legacies the bear was mentioned as many times as Bonnie was mentioned. He tells Josie that that actually happened to him with a teddy bear once, and has a fond look on his face. And then even with Hope, he finds the ascendant in a plushie, and asks “why is it always the stuffed animals? It’s the weirdest thing.” Neither Josie nor Hope knows what he’s referring to, but he still feels the need to mention it. Miss Cuddles made a big impact on Kai almost as much as Bonnie.
It’s like what is important to Bonnie also became an important part for Kai, even after decades. 🥲

How would you describe bonkai relationship even now in a meta
hmmmm I think their relationship can be interpreted a lot of ways especially dealing with post and pre merge kai. Which is how imma break this post up sorta. There’s the competitive antagonist and protagonist side and then there’s them completely each other being complete opposite but being exactly what each other needs.
The competitive side of their relationship is definitely more of pre merge kai but post merge kai would definitely love challenging bonnie. From the beginning kai and bonnie enjoy foiling each other’s plans. Kai is loves the little cat and mouse game they play in his PW, he’s never mad at her tryinh to stop him untill she succeededs in those two instances 1.Bonnie sending Damon back 2.Bonnie sending her magic away, but even then he looks back at that time fondly when he says “that happend to me with a teddy bear once.” I think Kai sees Bonnie as his only equal the only one who can match him on all levels. And with post merge kai I think this changes from him wanting her to challenge him to Kai wanting to challenge her to realize her full potential of being completely unstoppable. As for Bonnie Kai was her first real personal villain and she took pride in defeating and out smarting him. Unlike other tvd villains most of them underestimate her, want to control her, or jus down right disrespect her. Kai is different as i said before he sees her as his equal and I think she recognizes that so the challenge of beating him is more fun to her. Bonnie also truly sees how evil pre merge(and lets be honest s8 Kai) is and unlike ofher villains she cant appese to their humanity so again she takes pride and hitting where it hurts where ever she can.
Now for them completely each other(aka the mooshie side, aka the side i love the most) Let’s start off how completely opposite they are yet they are both one of the most lonely characters. Kai abused and neglected for most of his life becomes a sociopath, he’s never felt love or human connection so he obsess over his birth right of becoming gemini leader. He has been isolated his entire life and all he truly wants is to live that life at the end of the day. Then there’s Bonnie who has felt warmth from her grams and parents at one point, but has had all of that ripped away from her, from her mother abandoning her, grams dieing, and her distant father. So to avoid the loss of anyone else she loves she sacrifices herself over and over again and still winds up alone. But together it’s different Bonnie would have someone who never abondon her and kai would have someone whould’nt shun away due to him being a siphoner.
I would elaborate futher but i feel like this post is already too long🙈 but this isn’t nearly all my thoughts them mighy make a follow up post.
