Their decisions and motivations were shaped by the circumstances in their lives, but also their great characterizations. #PrideBookstagram Day 26: Peter Darling by Austin Chant⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ I've been wanting to read this for a while and finally got to it last month. I guess @minavesguerra 's tweets about it pushed it up the TBR. 😁 And it was indeed great! 💙💙💙⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ This Peter Pan retelling starts somewhere after the original story ends and is told in a format that slowly unravels and upends what we've all known about the classic tale. I will have to admit that I struggled with the first few chapters bec Pan here is quite annoying and he makes really careless decisions that got into my nerves. And then I realized I was feeling that way bec that's exactly how boys who never want to grow up are: reckless and immature. It only made me love the writing more and when it becomes clear that the key to solving all of Pan's problems lie within an acceptance of himself, I could no longer put the book down!⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ The pairing is M/M with a trans character and I must say, I haven't read a lot of fiction with sensitive and respectful trans rep, but this does it exceptionally. CW to some homophobia and a bit of violence, but it wasn't excessive and it was necessary for the character-driven plot to get a move on. I loved that the sexual tension was subtle enough to match the whimsical tone of the book, but still very much there especially towards the end.⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ I highly recommend this esp to those who are looking for great trans narrative. #PrideBookstagram Day 25: My Monster Boyfriend anthology⁣ •⁣ Now, this gift from @chachicsbooknook is one that's near and dear my bastos heart. LOL. And honestly, I'm not v much into reading fantasy kink, especially books with monsters, but I found this really fun, the concept was well-thought, and it's scorching HOT. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥⁣ •⁣ This collection features 10 original short comics from wonderful artists that absolutely did not hold back on the steam department. I love this bec it's not only diverse in terms of ethnicity and sexuality of the pairings, but also in the monster rep. #PrideBookstagram Day 24: Bodies of Water by krayonela⁣ •⁣ Happy Friday!!! Here's another repost from an older bookstagram bec my borrowed copy is already with its owner (I should've taken more photos of it! 😅) Anyway, this short comic is packed with emotion and profound awareness of people and society. The simple artwork felt like a raw stripping down of complex, every day lives into fundamentals combined with water and ocean parallels. It's v interesting and the ~flow was easy to follow. I wish it ended differently though, but that's just me. "Camilo was figuring things out, he had a plan, and even though it was hard, he was doing what he needed to for himself and for his mother. Like he had been all the years before you came."⁣⁣⁣ •⁣⁣⁣ I'm so glad to say that this second book from Adriana Herrera hit me So. Good. in the feels. 💕 Bec this is a romance, we already know Tom and Camilo would end up together but I absolutely enjoyed the getting-to-that-HEA-journey in this millionaire x working class pairing. Them being perfect for each other didn't really start from the beginning, but by the middle I loved them being together so much that I HURT when the conflict came to break them apart. Bec sometimes it's not a huge external factor that breaks people up, it's the little internal things, human habits that are hard to break, and good intentions with v bad execution. Also, I love Libe SO MUCH! *that's all the non-spoilery things I'll say about it.*⁣⁣⁣ •⁣⁣⁣ As with Dreamers #1, the rich cultural background makes this a standout book for me. It also deals with other heavy things like gentrification, mental health issues, and the protagonists' financial gap in respectful and honest ways. I appreciate how the steamy parts escalate early in the story (like, way early!) and that the steam didn't fizzle at all until the HEA. 🧡⁣⁣⁣ • ⁣⁣⁣ "What made it all feel monumental was the reciprocity. I never felt like I wasn't getting as much as I put in with Tom. It wasn't even tit for tat or that I was keeping track. I just felt balanced. Like he wanted exactly what I gave, and I got as much as I needed. Attention, time, sex, space. #RomBkLove Day 4: Romance for Beginners⁣ The Playlist Series by Jay E. Tria⁣ •⁣ I know tastes and preferences vary widely even among close groups of friends so I’m just gonna show you the gateway romance book that started it all for me: Songs of Our Breakup. It’s about Jill, making her way out of a relationship that wasn’t really going to work, and on to a new romance with a freakin’ Japanese heartthrob! 💕 They’re also indie rockstars and some of their song lyrics appear between chapters adding more depth to the stories! It’s set in the Philippines, helping me with my homesickness back when I was still far and away from home and that’s one of the many reasons I love it! ⁣ ⁣ I think they’re great starters too bec the writing is superb, the steam is still quite low, and the kilig is 💯! The reading slump is real, you guys. 😫 I mean, I know I don’t have the ~right, what with my ever-growing TBR pile, but agh, I have not been in the mood to pick up any of the books I hoarded. It’s the 16th already and all I’ve read so far was UGH Vol. 1. And that was great (super hilarious and relatable!) but things were hectic in the other aspects of my life this month and my reading took the blow. After this week, it looks to be more manageable though, so I hope I get to read again. 🤞🏼 I already chose 3 books from my TBR: 1 gifted, 1 ARC and 1 for beta reading.
