Hey, remember like 10 years ago when many of us were in our teens and twenties? Remember how there were all those news articles making fun of “millennials and their avocado toast,” that they didn’t know certain skills that had stopped being taught in school, that they were ruining the economy by killing various industries?
Remember how we rightfully said that was bullshit and we would be the generation to end it, that we would be nice to the generation after us?
I’ve seen a couple posts shitting on gen alpha kids. Don’t do that. Remember that they’ve already been through climate disasters, political unrest, and a global pandemic in their young lives. Talk to them. If they’re being rude, it’s probably because they’re struggling, not because they’re evil. Treat them as we wanted to be treated when we were their age. Children are people.

i really want to start making a table collecting statistics on the audience demographics i'll perform my aubrey material for (like what generation most of the audience is, whether i'm performing in a predominantly queer space, etc.) and how well the jokes land bc like. i need to collect more data points before i can properly present my findings but the results so far have been fascinating
#again i do not have enough performance experiences to make any definitive claims about who ''aubery's audience'' is#but i find it funny that any time i show my aubrey material one-on-one to a queer gen z person#they're always like ''i love it but straight people will definitely hate it or not get it''#and i get the inclination to be like. ''i like this thing so people like me will like this thing''#and cishet society seems so polarized w/r/t queer topics it's like. the assumption makes sense#however. whenever i've done an aubrey performance in front of an audience that's predominantly queer and gen z#i've actually received a primarily negative response!! and somehow straight people have never given me shit for my aubrey material#(''well straight allys don't count'' i told some of my aubrey jokes to a joe rogan dudebro and he enjoyed them)#(which yeah maybe could be a mark against my comedy but i like to think i opened his mind a bit at the very least)#i really want to test my aubrey monologues in front of a primarily gen x/boomer audience#bc so far i only have actual performance experience in front of gen z or millennials#and the older people i've told jokes to individually or shown videos of my stuff have really liked it#luckily paul has said a goal for when i'm in town this summer is to get me to perform my aubrey stuff in as many different places as possib#for both queer audiences and non-queer audiences so i can gauge reactions since i don't want to be confined to one demographic#so i'll get a lot of data points this summer#@ paul get me a performing slot at senior citizen pride lmao these are my people#(shoutout to paul going ''jess stop collecting the old homos!'' last time i was in town)#(and when i imitated him and was like ''old gay men are not your pokemon!'' bellini was like ''ok but they may be your audience'')#also one data point i really want to see the variation on is how my one specific joke plays in these different demographics#bc i have a joke that like. it's literally not even about AIDS and doesn't punch down at all#i literally say ''if you're gay and over the age of 50 you could violate the geneva convention and i'd still be like support our troops''#like obviously being like ''you have been through hell so i will let you get away with literal war crimes you deserve ultimate immunity''#BUT. in the line right before the quote i use the phrase ''AIDS generation'' not as a derogatory term but being like.#this horrible thing impacted the entire generation y'know? and bellini and scott and their friends call themselves that it's just the term#but when i said the phrase ''AIDS generation'' in front of my gen z audience i heard gasps and felt like they all hated me#and when i did the same line in front of millennials it wasn't quite as striking but their eyes did widen#like i was suddenly an ''edgy comedian''. but like this is a part of our history and it does inform the story i'm telling#the story i'm telling is comedic but it's grounded in this real world context#and i'm like. @ the audience who was offended: when was the last time any of y'all spoke to a gay man over the age of 50#bc bellini loves that section of the monologue and was offended that people would even take offense to that phrase

i think millennials are the worst generation i’ve had to work with i’m so serious
#op#sorry millennial mutuals i’m sure you’re great to work with this is just from my own experience#right now at work it’s me (gen z) one millenial and then everyone else is gen x and maybe a few boomers#and like mr millenial is the one who takes nothing serious??? ever???#first of all he’s literally mocked me a few times and i know he’s joking but it’s like idk u like that#and he’s always getting us talked to being reminded about guidelines BEVAUSE HE DOESNT LISYEN#i wish so badly i could be like ‘i think that was [name]’ because i’m not the one doing that!!!!#our manager sent a text reminding us tubs can’t be over 40 pounds and that a couple libraries were overfilled#and the tubs for those libraries were in the section he was working on yesterday#and i remember last week he said something#about how he hates making new tubs for just a few books and i said i don’t like to overfill them and i rather the drivers decide what to do#with an almost empty tub because they have a few options#like they could leave it put it in a full tub take a half full tub put a few in a bag etc#AND HE MOCKED ME FOR SAYING THAT#HE WAS LIKE OH HOW KIND OF YOU#WHAT?????? LIKE YES THATS KIND OF ME ACYUALLY THESE TUBS VANT BE OVER FORTY POUNDS#AND SOME OF THESE MEN ARE OLD AS DIRT#anyway i hate him and every millenial i’ve ever worked with i’m so sorry millenial mutuals#it’s not you it’s the dumbasses i’ve worked with#i would understand if u hate gen z a little but pls remember i’m the exception <3

Also it's so apparent when a manager of a business prioritises random bullshit metrics and creates a very toxic unrelaxed work environment because having high metrics specifically for their job description means a larger bonus for them ONLY at the end of the financial year. "Hey guys we really need to get our members card scan rate above 82.676% before August!"
Mmm, no, YOU need that so you can get paid money you don't deserve and you're guilting like 35 people into doing it for you by making it seem like it involves me in any way.
"Guys we really need..." NO, YOU need us to do that FOR you so you can pay off your second mortgage and renovations on a house that no one who works under you could even think to afford. Your daughter's walk in closet renovation is not a reason I should sweat in my car before coming to work and panic about what fresh hell the new day will bring because YOU found yourself in a cushy management job where you actively enjoy having power over mostly teenagers who don't realise they are being exploited AND learning toxic work cultures without even realising that!

Got another rejection today wooo. I didn't even want the job because it was in Dallas and also ONLY $15 an hour, no wiggle room. But it still sucks that I haven't made it through screening interviews ever. Like I am 26 years old, I have a master's degree, experience in multiple industry relevant places, and I'm willing to move anywhere. But nope can't get an entry level internship, an "entry level" job requires a year of experience or two years or three years, or no experience. I can't get fucking shit
And again I know places aren't really hiring and that it's probably my own fault and I need to figure out what's wrong with my CV/resume and my interview skills but still. The HR guy said I asked good questions and had a good interview and I didn't even make it to second stage interviews

Millenials are the mirror and the antithesis of their boomer parents just like gen x are to zoomers. Yes in this order bc in the end us Millenials growing up naturally become a little like our parents on the other hand u see desperate gen x trying to become young and woke again like their own children but without any critical skill that comes from experience and I hate the word cringe but I think it's fair to say it to gen xers

people in the tags of my dw article like, "wow. chibnall might be worse than moffat" for fucks sake get some perspective Chibnall tried to frame the Doctor being a Nazi as empowering!!!!!! like actually wrote the Doctor using literal bonafide Nazism against her FRIEND, sending a person of colour to Nazi death camps on PURPOSE and framing it as a triumphant moment. It does not compare even remotely to Moffat's boomer gen x Madonna/whore sexism. It's the difference between some shitty sexist subtext and actually having a white character use white supremacy for fun and explicitly signal to your viewers of colour that violently disposing of them is "heroic". Also, if youse actually cared to fucking read what I wrote or bothered to watch the show to see for yourself, Chibnall's writing was sexist too. The 13th Doctor constantly endured condescending gendered writing and even gendered violence within the show that Chibnall barely acknowledged, but consistently enacted. A lot of youse think hating Moffat is peak criticism, but actually caring about this show is recognising that the reason Moffat got away with driving this show into the ground is because sexism, and white supremacy are baked into this fucking show and ALL showrunners have enacted it. Yes, including Davies. I am on my knees begging for you guys to stop looking at media through the lens of auteur theory, and actually critique media on what it's representing as its presented. I'm so exhausted with people "bad appleising" media, like one person is the source of all that's wrong and if we get rid of them everything is fine. media is the product of people working within systems and media reflects those systems as much as the people. stop bad apple-ising because it makes you uncomfortable to admit something you care about is inherently bigoted.

certain type of gen x/boomer that lacks basic manners, has NO friends, is a trump supporter, only wears graphic t shirts, hates everyone and has no family, is incredibly rude to service workers, has no idea how basic conversations work, extremely irritable

No but full stop. if you say anything like "Gen Alpha is being raised wrong/horrible to have in class/morally fucked-up/idiotic/doomed/just really really cringe" I will unironically lose all respect for you immediately.
all this stuff about "they're illiterate", "they have no respect for parents or teachers" "screens have rotted their brains" "they just speak in weird Skibidi Toilet Gyatt Rizz Meme Language" "the screens have made them have no behavior standards or morals" "the ScReEeEeEeEnsssss"
...you sound literally exactly like our parents' generation did with us. and elder millenials'/Gen X/even really late boomer's parents' generations did with them about video games and cable tv and...regular tv
and radio
and records
and. dime novels.
and it literally just goes back like that forever
OVID talked abt this stuff in the EXACT same way
so yeah, if you say that stuff without a shred of self-awareness, then I
1) do not think you can keep your commitment to "not fuck up future generations like we were fucked up", since you're contributing to that fucking-up right now by your words and actions.
2) will assume that you have a similar shortsightedness in other issues that require you to compare your own/modern-day views and events to historical ones, and lose faith in your interpretation of everything from aesthetics and online drama to world-altering current events because of that
3) genuinely I just have nothing but disappointment in people who say these things. anyone on this site who hates "icky gen alpha things" almost definitely did the same thing themselves.
They have "Gyatt", we* had GLOMPING, Yaoi Paddles, shitty mspa twerking gifs everywhere, and "Oh My God, Look At Her Butt"
They have "Rizz" we had "YOLO SWAG" and "I made you a cookie but I eated it" and those selfies where you held your camera up too high and then looked up at it from under your bangs
They have "Skibidi Toilet" we had SO MANY THINGS. Llamas with Hats. Charlie the Unicorn. Annoying Orange. Crazy Frog. Potter Puppet Pals. Minecraft Parodies if you're younger gen z. friCKING TOBUSCUS MUSIC, that man was a PLAGUE.
They have a toxic social media culture focused on heavily edited and unachievable beauty standards, enforced popularity culture, rigid aesthetic-based social groups, harmful rumors about health & beauty, a pressure on young girls to act mature, and underlying racism/classism, all leading kids who dont have adequate guidance to, AT BEST, try beauty "products" that arent meant for kids and are usually scams. We had... literally the exact same thing except our airbrushing was on celebs and models instead of coming from filters.
*I am older Gen Z (24 y.o.) but was so fucking sheltered until ~2014, and even then... I'm going off tumblr-history blogs, yt retrospectives and "my friend said so" to understand what "we" had
TLDR STOP BULLYING GEN ALPHA
...except about "Starpatch" or "Starface" or whatever it is. yes, ik its also popular/more popular with younger gen z. yes I'm literally making a post rn to bully(lh) yall JUST as hard about it. if it were my exact age group doing this I would be bullying yall. i dont care who does it, starpatch is so fricking silly.

I genuinely hate generational politics. We should be knocking down billionaire's doors not making fun of how each other dresses, what kind of slang each other uses or how cringy each other are.
Like we all live in our societies as they are and that means we adapt to the things around us and things are hard right now. No, not all millennials are bad parents, not all boomers are rude Karen's, not all gen x are maga Republicans and no not all gen alpha are stupid iPad babies.
Like, yes those mean stereotypes exist for a reason but the reason is we have bad infrastructure in literally every possible category of living.
Instead of getting mad at the parent who doesn't know how to deal with their child lets address how much people have to work now in order to keep up with bills and thus don't have the ability to spend more time with their kids, let alone learn how to care for them.
Do you all realize how low the baseline of mental health is on an average? Pretty low. Therapy is still a pretty taboo topic for most people and is only growing worse with how often shootings happen now.
Gen z and gen alpha get blamed for being stupid or lazy but like- I get it??? If I hadn't had the short freedom from technology in the 90s and early 2000s I probably also would be much worse in school and socially. But that's not their fault and also we are living through war times and have literally no where to socialize.
Our world is designed to do everything it's doing and to hurt and prod and poke from everyone it's poking at and it's ridiculous to fall into the trap of blaming someone ahead of us in the race when we all know the real culprit.
It's not the other poor people or the other uneducated or the other mentality Ill or- it's the fucking wealthy. It always has been. For fucking time immortal it has always been the wealthy.
It's class politics that the average people need to focus on. Age politics is how they get us to fight each other instead.
