the more I age the more I'm turning into my dad (in a good way, surprisingly). one thing I've always liked about him was that he's completely uninterested in why something is hard to do. he was a hyperefficient killing machine of an accountant of the likes i will never match

I used to think "well he has mysterious Thing-Doing Juice, that's why he has no sympathy for people who can't do things", and these days I'm playing around with the additional frame of, "he is totally uninterested in ruminating over the ways in which something is hard, and this is a superpower actually". There's a blurry line between discovering and inventing things about your approach to the needful

these days I increasingly catch myself about to go into a train of thought about the nature of a task's difficulty and aversiveness, and then go, "okay, bored in advance already, I'm going to do something else". (The something else is usually procrastination rather than doing the thing, but sometimes it is doing the thing.)

a related thing I've been doing is working on ruminating less in general, inspired by this (not 100% endorsed by me) guide by a psychologist who specializes in OCD. It's occurred to me that writing detailed accounts of why a task is difficult or bad is clearly a subset of the kind of rumination I want to cut out

I used to get, and still get, something substantial and arguably necessary from ventposting, but the one illusion I'm hoping to cure of myself is that detailed descriptions of the difficulty of a task serves any intellectual function. It gives me a feeling of emotional relief that is probably 'real', and it gives me a feeling of increased understanding of the nature of the problem that is probably 'false'

anyway watch all of this equanimity evaporate next year when tax time rolls around again

An Ugly yet Addicting Feeling

Fandom: The Tale of Food

Summary: Buddha’s Temptation knew that the emotion welling up in his chest was a lovely one yet why did it have to carry along ones so ugly?

Notes: I’m a pretty new writer and this is my first writing in a while but I’ll do my best to improve! Terribly sorry about my sense of formatting though…I have absolutely none. Also sorry if it’s ooc. Buddha’s Temptation is the first food soul I reached level 11 affection for so this is for him. Still aiming for 15 though…

Buddha’s Temptation had always yearned to feel love.

To know what the emotion felt like and to reciprocate it and be reciprocated by the one that love was aimed towards. A truly beautiful emotion that brought along ones that weren’t beautiful at all. This he now knew.

Looking at the figure so close yet so far from him, Buddha sighed. You who are like an unreachable star that shone above everyone else. Someone he no longer admired but now loves. What a complex emotion, what a sad reality to accept.

It’s surely impossible that you reciprocate his feelings. There are plenty of other spirits who vied for your attention and he’s merely one of them.

Oh how ugly the jealously that sprouted in his heart was whenever your attention was taken away from him. The sadness knowing that you’ll never be his and only his. How should he deal with this greed of his for you?

It’s not your fault. It’ll never be your fault that such ugly emotions came with a beautiful one. It was his fault. He let his feelings go astray and turn the admiration he had felt towards you turn into love. Or perhaps…it was love to begin with and he merely confused it with admiration?

He neither knew nor cared for the answer now.

It’s worrying how he’s developed..desires for you. You have multiple other spirits to deal with than worry over a single one like him. Knowing you, you’d probably try and stop him once you found out and then reject him gently. Ah..even thinking of the possibility hurt him even if it was the only correct one.

It’s strange how he knows this love of his is wrong yet the place where his heart would be continues to yearn for you. For your attention, for your love, for your smile. Ha…now he understands, this feeling of his is too addictive to ignore he’ll have to leave before it swallows him whole. For the sake of your happiness and continuous joy, he’ll run away even if this feeling will never run dry.
