omg that part two snippet of girldad! carlos had me literally screaming, the way you write is just so *chef’s kiss* i can’t wait for the to see what happens next
its gonna be so cute when charles starts speaking french with ana and they both start bonding, carlos already has it down bad for this man but he’s going to be in love love with this man when this happens
the idea of the both of them being dads is just so… compelling, we really need more fics of them being dads and being all domestic
im sorry for this ranty ask but i just got so excited when i saw u posted the snippet, i love that fic so much already
and if you don’t mind, could you post the giver au pls :))
sending you lots of love mal, thank you for everything!! <33
Hi! Do not apologize!! Every fic writer hopes and dreams that ppl will get excited about their fic 😭 and I completely agree - we need more charlos dads. They are literally so married and charles wants a kid so badly...
Anyway yes! You can have a snippet of the Giver AU - i've shared a bit of it before, but essentially, the premise is that society requires everyone to take suppressants to dull their emotions, eliminating pain/conflict/anger/fear etc., but also eliminating passion/love/joy in the process...
I'm thinking of doing a major rewrite of this actually...so honestly what you read here might look very different by the time I post it but 🤷🏻‍♀️
“Hola, teammate.” It’s accompanied by a grin and a nudge to his arm. Charles raises an eyebrow.
“Hello, again.”
They’d seen each other not forty-five minutes ago, but Carlos seems to insist on greeting everyone like it’s the first time that day no matter how long ago they parted ways. He also keeps calling Charles, ‘teammate,’ like he thinks anyone needs to be reminded of this.
“What are we doing now?” Carlos asks, rubbing his hands together like he’s impatient to get started.
Charles doesn’t know why he would be - they’ve been doing promotional obligations all day, and his head is starting to hurt from all the bright lights. It’s all videos and photoshoots for their sponsors and social media accounts. Tomorrow will be the more important agenda - seat and race suit fittings are the first things on the schedule.
“A video for the fans, I think,” Charles says, in answer. “Where we ask each other questions.”
“Ah, so I can discover all of your secrets.” Carlos lifts his brows up and down in a way that Charles isn’t sure he’s ever seen someone do.
He knows it’s a joke - one of Carlos’ strange ones, where he doesn’t really mean what he says. But Charles still finds himself wanting to protest the remark.
“I don’t have secrets.” Why would he? He has nothing to hide. Carlos rolls his eyes.
“Okay,” is all he says.
Charles has the sense he’s disappointed him somehow. Not that it really matters, but he’s still trying to figure out his new teammate. He wants them to get along, since they’ll be seeing a lot of one another. So far, he feels like Carlos is perpetually amused by him for reasons that Charles can’t determine.
“The questions are prepared,” Charles adds. “They wouldn’t have us ask whatever we wanted.” This seems obvious to him, but maybe Carlos isn’t yet accustomed to how structured things are at Ferrari.
Practically their every movement is planned by some coordinator on the team - the only time it can’t be is in the car, when the drivers themselves hold the steering wheel. And even then, the team tries to control everything with strategy and radio communications during the race.
Carlos gives him a searching look, which Charles attempts not to shy away from. He isn’t shy, anyway. Poor choice of words.
“Do you ever... Mm- how do you say it?” Carlos takes a second to himself, mulling over whatever it is that he’s trying to ask. “Do you ever go against the script?”
“The script?” Charles frowns.
“The rules. The path. The plan.” Carlos studies him, as he processes the words, like Charles is a bug in a jar. It’s not a sensation he particularly...enjoys, though he can’t pinpoint why.
“I’m not...” He swallows, unsure of himself. “I don’t-”
“Boys!” someone is saying from across the room, gesturing them over.
There’s a beat of silence between them, and then Carlos is saying, “Never mind, mate,” patting Charles on the shoulder.
He walks away then, and Charles is left with a strange hollowness in his chest, like he’s failed at something - like when he’s driven badly or made a mistake on track. But he hadn’t done anything like that. He’d just been talking to his teammate...
He takes a deep breath, then moves to join Carlos across the room.

SAG AFTRA issued a statement in favor of supporting Israel and twitter was going batshit condemning writers and also actors, suddenly the whole support for the strike became empty in ppl's eyes due to the state of politics.
I am unaware of this. As a general rule I'm not a fan of people airing out their opinions or even being expected to air out their opinions about everything under the sun but especially highly sensitive issues such as these for nothing but posturing. That's all. I saw some dumfuck post about history asking you what you did to stop the genocide. Keep your answers ready or whatever. And I'm like. Tell me what you did apart from a stupid Tumblr post abt your (not really) bleeding heart.
Mine may be an unpopular opinion but I do judge people who make it so that expressing their opinion on each and every sensitive issue of the day in public is their whole personality and making it a metric of judging people but most importantly propping themselves up.
If you're not out there doing shit then you aren't doing shit. Period. Please don't delude yourself into thinking that a name.txt post is you contributing towards the cause. Get off the high unicorn.
If SAG-AFTRA has done this, it's yet another incident of sticking it in the wrong place. Not everyone has the bandwidth of understanding everything. In fact, no one has that. And sometimes shutting the fuck up is good and recommended.
There's no need to add to the cacophony. As could be seen earlier more was made of what a celeb says instead of idk devoting that time to asking themselves what they did to stop the genocide for their history test or whatever.
My anger has and always will be for people wearing causes like designer bags. In this season, out the next. You're cool if you're wearing it and fuck off if you're not on it yet. How dare you.
That's what's happening. That is the long and short of it. I too have been a part of this posturing crowd in my youth but it was stupid then and it's stupid now. (I talk about myself preemptively answering any ask that may try to counter me on this daftest of points.)
The changing of the profile picture, the hashtags, they do nothing. If you're not converging with black armbands on the road, it's not a protest. If your work was done as you lay on the bed holding in or letting out a fart it's not work. Activism involves activity. And therefore, idgaf abt the discount slacktivists who tweet or tumble in the way one lies about speaking French on their CV.
Celebrities, non-celebrities, organisations not in the service of serving the cause, etc. can all go fuck off. An opinion is an opinion and it may be right or wrong. But it cannot take precedence over reality. You hate someone's opinion - then you want to hate them - but no you want them to first learn and apologise - and yet you want to hate them - or maybe you don't - and that will be your personality for a while. And guess what the issue was never what one fucker thought about something. The issue was always that *something*. And that something wasn't glamorous enough a 100 years ago and it isn't now.
We'd much rather engage in debating a reaction to a thing than understand that in the grand scheme of things a right and a wrong opinion both hold the same weight of a grand total of nothing. Because none of us is DOING anything. Poseurs the whole lot of us.
SAG-AFTRA put out a statement. Did it take a vote of its members to see if they agreed? If they took a vote was the vote split published? Why does an opinion on a geopolitical conflict have any bearing on the demand for better working conditions of members in an entirely different geographical location and vice versa?
Right now. At this moment. I could be pro either party or neutral or whatever and it would do nothing for nobody. Zilch. Anyone feeling otherwise about their own opinion is STUPID.
The witchhunting never stopped. We have more candidates that qualify for being witches and even more witchhunters now. And that's the main sport. That's the cause. Everything else is in assistance of. At least on twitter. N I guess even Tumblr now.
Before any asshole chimes in, I'm not talking about people doing the work. I'm talking about people who think they'd be deemed mute if they don't speak for once.
So I don't care for the opinions of anyone who's not a man on the ground. I just don't. Neither should anybody tbh.
I hope this also answers that other ask someone sent. I'm not attaching it here. But ya.
Also to my anons: ma'am this is an ST blog. Please.

I think the Americans are scared deep down of protesting like the French because many are just lazy and don’t want to be too uncomfortable by protesting. The French are based in that despite the hard shit and the tragedies, shit gets done. The Americans push back a bit, get scared when getting pushback by the elites and cling to their guns without using them to go back to their homes to whine at how awful their country is. Their country is huge and and if millions can come together to protest they can do it but they just won’t. I see it as they are only looking out for themselves deep down. They don’t care about others. They aren’t and probably won’t ever be “United” and fight together. That country is doomed to collapse probably soon so if any Americans reading this want to leave, I don’t blame you. Just don’t infect other countries with your bullshit.
Americans should start protesting because walking for hours is good for health and they'd be less obese. Being regularly chased by the police is good exercise, you work your endurance AND cardio🏃🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️💨🚓. Now you know why the french are so skinny🤍🇫🇷
Yeah I always clowned American conservative/libertarians flexing their guns and mUh fRrEdOm but ultimately still getting finessed by a geriatric man out of his mind lmao.
If those men were that courageous you'd think they already done yet another Capitol stunt but right now they're busy crying & shaking behind their computers, saying about how the Left™ is coming for them, how the Capitol was a pSyOp to get every pAtrIoT arrested......but ALSO, it wasn't no big deal because the Capitol doesn't represent the American people anymore - and other copium nonsense...
And yeah the problem of individualism is a huge problem preventing Americans to resist effectively against governments. The USA is a veery young country too so its people have yet to build a sense of community ship beside the flag and the Bible - who never stopped good White Americans from treating other people as second class citizens if not barely humans flr most of its History ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I cringe big time whenever I see ppl fawn over the concept of the USA, the "land of the free".... when its own founders had slaves 🤡
Social class awareness is what makes people break free from the bondage of corporatism. The USA have yet to have an ideologue like Karl Marx or Jean Jacques Rousseau to peak the masses.
Every french kid has to read "Le Contrat Social" of Rousseau during highschool ; that's why french citizens are wired to understand social class self awareness. Which ultimately make them more prone to fuck shit up when they feel their 'class' threatened.
I also always said that religion was relevant on that matter too. France is Catholic. I am not Catholic but I always said that Catholics knew how to do shit when it came to help the poor, organize mass scale social initiative, etc. Everytime I see Christians seething against giving money to the poor it's Protestants.
Here in France we have Caisses de Grèves (which can be translated as "Strike Pool") were ppl can donate money and then the money is distributed to all the people striking / missing days of work which take a tool on their finance. Lately, one donor gave 30 000€ !!! So even rich people have solidarity with strikers. Because social class awareness also helps rich people to be aware of their responsibility (use their privilege to help lower class people). OG Rousseau did the work centuries ago to slap some sense into the bourgeoisie, and now modern french citizens reap the benefits of his ideas. That's the perk of living in such an old country 🤍🇫🇷
....But when I look at American (Christians), they are often very contemptuous with this kind of initiative. Or they'll be like "I hope this money isn't going to lEftisTs !!" or even stupid shit like "handing stuff for free is the beginning of Communism"......but what they don't understand is that those leftist are socially closer to them than those millionaire they're white knighting online.

i’m honestly not sure what to think anyway but i think the point of protest is to get peoples attention, earlier this year a scientist lit himself on fire in public in washington dc no one said anything about the danger of that
That's because it didn't arrive to the heavy mass media, like national news channels etc. And also because, unsurprisingly, governments have no interest to spread news like these. I remember similar cases that happened in Spain mostly and some scientist who blocked the parliament doors in Italy for the same reason. Did these events make to big news outlets? Guess i needn't to say the answer. That to say that protests are born from popular dissent, can assume various forms, but if there is something all the forms have in common is that is to cause disorder in any way (and with any i mean all, i am not FIA or michael masi) AND that they are always in contrast with the government (aka the cops). Now, just to think to some great revolutionarists. Suffragettes, Malcom X and the Black Panthers, the French Revolution, Hong Kong, even Stonewall!!! Stonewall started with an unprompted riot, but if you think that the actual fight stopped on june 30th 1969, well you are too naive!! A naivety that capitalist governments and police states want you to have. A calm citizen is an easily manipulated one!!! Like, one of the few peaceful revolts to work was Gandhi one's in India, but he could count on a true popular cohesion and in a stark contrast with yhe british establishments. In fact violence wasn't absent just because Indians were peaceful.
The protests as we western countries made them recently (mostly in europe i believe) are mostly a scam parade because nowadays, under the guise of safety (as they always do), protesters have to organise WITH police to protest when THEY want and HOW they want. Like a herd of good sheeps. This concept is translatable this way by governments 'you are free to protest and say what you hate. But if you think we will listen to you you can wait forever.'
So, this turned our in a long ass political rant, but what i want to say is this. I am happy that no driver got involved in these protests, however i can't say protestors are wrong, because, like all the good protests should be, they are a fruit of popular dissent, and those can never be wrong, they aee what they are. What is a pity is that they were too few and could not deliver the message properly. If lots of ppl were there there wouldn't have been no risk of involving drivers. If this worked somehow, who know what things could have been and i understand what Lineker said. If there is something history taught is that when you succeed you are a martyr or a visionary, if you fail you are a fool and, you can see, the line is really short between the two. I can only admire these few ppl because they tried to highlight something that governments care about just when they can capitalise on it. As a publicity stunt. They are true activists, loyal to the word action, as way too many ppl deem themselves an activist just behind a screen. They tried to do something so i appreciate the effort. Tho, i am happy no driver was involve.
I am not angry with people saying protesters were wrong or did this the wrong way. Mostly bcs ppl saying that are very young, and i hope they can understand. Don't ever think that there is a good or bad way to protest. That's a lie. Don't believe who says that organised protests are good because of safety. That is manipulation. Public dissent, continuative movements, unpredictability is how you do things, not cooperation with people more powerful than you and hoping they will listen. Taking away the possibility of fighting back is how they will strip your rights slowly and painfully. Never fall for that!! KEEP YOUR MIND FREE AND YOUR HEART FIERCE KIDS!!!

Literally kicking my legs back and forth twirling my hair I love facts... could u tell me about facts from the years 1300 to 1400? Or if you know about it the world trade fair ^-^
ok we're doing that first one YAS um some of these might actually be 1200-1450 and some of these might actually be wrongish since im trying to go off the top of my head sorry...
1. trade went absolutely CRAZYYY in this time period silk roads indian ocean trade network etc as a result religions such as islam spread even in places where pre-existing religions had a pretty strong hold for example though it never overtook hinduism islam spread in the area of the delhi sultanate (what is now northern india) largely bc of the existence of sufis which emphasized the more spiritual and emotional aspects of islam rather than rigid social constraints, it also took a strog hold among those who were unhappy with their place in the caste system and felt drawn to its egalitarian message
2. a heavy enabler of this trade going crazy was the mongol empire, they heavily encouraged trade due to their desire to tax it and set up caravanserai, aka rest stations, along the silk roads along with guard stations. however do not get too attached to the caravanserai bc they heavily contributed to the spread of the black death :')
3. europe was an absolute MESS in this time period tbh they got hit very hard by the plague, which lessened people's faith in the catholic church, which served as the uniifying feature of europe at the time. this wavering in power led to european leaders vying for some of it (going a bit forward in the time period here SRRY its just interesting T___T) and looking for new ways to legitimize their rule, which was done in some crazy freaking ways like ART and RELIGION (which still had a heavy hold on the ppl despite the whole plague thing, just did not the same stability it had before). for example king james I (or was it II?) in england ruled by the divine right of kings, aka the belief that god had chosen him to be king and that going against him was therefore going against god; this allowed him to act above the law all the time. louis the xiv was absolutely CRAZY in this time bc he centralized power to the point of absolutism, first he did thiss normally by the divine right of kings but THEN he built the palace of versailles and was like "french nobles live here so i can watch what you do and make sure you dont shift any power awayfrom me or i will literally cry". additionally, the catholic church heavily promoted art with catholic themes in it to spread their version of the bible to the illiterate peasantry, but when an englishman named john wycliffe was like "hey im going to translate the bible from latin to a more commmon language so mroe people can read it" the church, whose practices of selling indulgences (the absolution of sins bassically) and simonies (church official positions) were NOWHERE in the bible, punished him. this general state of weakened trust in the church and general political instability led to the protestant reformation, but that is in the 16th century and not my strongest subject tbh so i will stop there
4. while europe flopped song dynasty china slayed they did so largely through the export of luxury goods (eg porcelain and silk aka the REASON the silk roads are the silk roads) and through the practice of keeping tributary states this allowed them to make crazy innovations in fields such as papermaking and pyrotechnics (which wasnt even used for war at first it was some scholars trying to findlike the elixir of immortality or something, bc that is just how much free time they had since they were in a prosperous state, and then theywere like Hey this blows up)
5. just as islam spread to south asia (and africa, which led to the establishment of centers of islamic learning in places such as the malmuk sultanate in what is now timbuktu which in turn led to the preservattion of information in fields such as medicine math and i want to say astronomy?), buddhism spread to china, syncretizing with the old belief system of confucianism to create neo-confucianism, which emphasized filial piety and education but also led to spread of patriarchal values, as can be seen in the practice of foot binding, in which high class women literally got their feet bound and it was super painful (badly explained LORD i have tto review that after this). additionally, many aspects of buddhism were altered in this spread to china: the term meaning "man supports wife" was altered to mean "man controls wife," and the form that took popularity was not the traditional theravada form but the mahayana one, which included the veneration of deities

ty to @thepartyfriendship for tagging me!!
rules
Post up to five (5) filenames of your WIPs; not titles, file names.
Post a snippet from one of them. Snippet must be words you wrote in the last 7 days. We’re posting progress here. If you haven’t made any, go make some and come back to post.
After you’ve posted, people can send you an ask with one of your file names. You must then write 3 sentences in that file.
That’s it! You can invite others to join in or just post.
here we go:
grrrninej - nina joins inej on her pirate ship and heals
excerpt:
Inej inclined her head. She didn't need an explanation.
Nina put her hands back on the rail, this time running them against the grain.
Inej wondered vaguely if she was trying to get splinters. She reached out a hand and placed it on top of Nina's. Nina responded immediately, flipping her hand over and entwining their fingers. A quick squeeze, and then Inej had to go hunt slavers and Nina had to go sit around, feeling useless.
She'd been refraining from using her powers as much as possible. They were dangerous and she didn't know how to use them. She wouldn't be the reason Inej, or one of the crew mates, got hurt.
2. jellybeans - max helps mike and will get together
excerpt:
Lucas sighed, amused. "Yeah, really. Go get your boy."
"Thanks, Lucas!" Will stood up and dusted off his shorts. "And he's not my boy."
"Sure he isn't."
"He's not!" Will yelled, climbing on his bike and pedaling away.
"He totally is," Max agreed with Lucas.
He laughed and put an arm around her, pressing a kiss into her hair. She smiled and closed her eyes, intent on taking a nap.
Her nap only lasted about thirty minutes, since she had to go home eventually, but the point stands.
3. Google translate - nancy is extra gay when robin speaks french
excerpt:
Nancy paced back and forth in her room, pondering her dilemma.
Robin kept on saying things to her in different languages. Mostly French. Occasionally Spanish.
And this was endlessly frustrating. Nancy didn't know French or Spanish.
They're hanging out and Nancy would be feeling confident. She'd manage to calm herself and shove away those stupid feelings of warmth that she gets whenever Robin calls her a friend. But then Robin would speak in French and the rug would be yanked out from under Nancy. The swooping in her stomach reminded her of falling. She didn't like how off balance she felt when she was with Robin.
4. idae - literally a doc w story ideas on it. here's the most recent one
excerpt:
richie calling ben “mr. handsome”. Ben protests and this eventually brings his self-image issues to the forelight. The losers listen to him and promise to help him work on it and tell him that he’s beautiful no matter what he weighs and shit (definitely not those words, but it’s late and i have too much of a headache to be kind)
5. word vomit - random thoughts ab elmax and mike
excerpt:
“I- I’m sorry,” Steve backtracked quickly. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“You better not have, fucker,” Robin replied. She waved Steve’s hand away as he reached out to her. “Fuck off, I’m going to go serve our customers.”
Steve groaned, dragging a hand down his face. “I fucked up.”
“Yeah you did,” Dustin said helpfully.
“Whatever. Whatever. Goddamn it.” Steve ran a hand through his hair. “Max, what you need to do is get these feelings out in the open. Just tell Mike that you’re mad at him and tell El that you’re nervous about upsetting her by insulting Mike. It’ll help.”
Max pursed her lips, considering this.
“Alright, now that I’ve given my wisdom to you children, I must go bury myself alive,” Steve said solemnly.

Without going into terfism, how then do you think feminism should fight to become the norm? Normal ways don't work and women and afab people keep being oppressed everywhere in the world. Like, peacefully opposing the patriarchial system didn't work. We need to take stronger actions.
I mean I don’t think you’re completely right in the sense that this question requires a lot of space to be answered and honestly I’m running on very little brain juice these days but:
'everywhere in the world’ is already a thing that can’t be used here as an argument because like a woman who lives in saudi arabia is more discriminated/oppressed than one who lives in any western european country and even within that a woman in europe can be discriminated bc sexism and not lawfully and what a woman from saudi arabia needs is not what someone in the united states needs so we can’t presume that if a thing works here then it works somewhere else
this goes also with cultural backgrounds bc like a woman in japan might be societally discriminated for wholly different reasons than a woman in italy and so on so I’d like to state that each single country has different issues and presuming that there’s one feminism to rule them all that would solve every issue is like... would be nice but that’s not how it works
‘peacefully opposing the patriarchal system didn’t work’ is a statement that honestly leaves me a little iffy because like... since feminism existed (as in, a century and a half roughly) as you know an ideology that you call like that women in most of western countries have equal rights as men, can vote, can divorce, should receive equal pay by law (then the fact that they laws aren’t apply is another problem), won’t get their kids taken away if they’re not the breadwinner, can work/study without people thinking it’s just for men, can get an abortion or are on their way to (never mind regressive places but I’m speaking in general), can press charges against rapists etc like... it didn’t work? it did work, the problem is that since we lived in a patriarchal society until that happened we still live in societies that didn’t shake the sexism away but like... when the french revolution happened in 1789 it didn’t automatically destroy all monarchies, and women having gotten equal rights doesn’t mean we don’t have to work at dismantling what remains of patriarchal society - and I’m talking about western countries or like y’know countries aligned with that set of values bue like it didn’t work? it did work. if it didn’t I’d have been married with kids I didn’t want and having barely studied until junior high if I was lucky at this point in my life unless I was like rich or coming from a class upper enough I could afford to do something better with my life and so on instead of like studying to work in politics hopefully and I’m speaking just about me
‘around the world’ issue: until people don’t put two and two together and realize that most places where women don’t have equal rights and are oppressed are theocracies we aren’t going anywhere imvho but like... you have to look at each single situation and support the activists there? like if a woman from saudi arabia who’s fighting for equal rights in saudi arabia tells you that they need this this and that you don’t go like BUT ACTUALLY I THINK, bc she’ll know better than you (and I’m using saudi arabia as an example bc idt we can argue about those women being oppressed)
and with that I mean that I’m done with western feminists speaking over idk iranian feminist refugees but that’s another problem entirely
in your own country you also have to be intersectional and work with other men too because ding ding if you’re like some people whose marches I went to who go like ‘if men want to be here they march in the back and anyway you don’t bring your male sons to this type of events’ then you go not fucking anywhere bc you have to work with the men who are not sexist, you have to take into account the issues of each single category of woman there is and not presume everyone has the same issues and like... not actually decide that by being a woman you automatically know better than other women which would already be a great way to make sure ppl didn’t think all feminists are like the radfems
working on dismantling patriarchal remains of society if you live in one where you have equal rights which can be done peacefully by idk voting for people who are pro women’s rights/don’t want to take them away, supporting the right organizations, get involved with your reps etc etc etc like if you wanna do activism that’s how it works but violent protest esp in a society where you do have equal rights on paper doesn’t exactly work
also support feminists from places where that doesn’t happen
I’m not going to go and say WHAT SHOULD OTHER WOMEN IN PLACES I DON’T LIVE DO but like... if saudi arabian women went for violent revolt I wouldn’t blame them but that’s because they live someplace where they can’t drive without a man in the car last I checked and if they do you support them but again that’s what they need to do not what you need to do as a westerner and sure af going there and preaching isn’t your job
there’s a hundred different patriarchies supposing that you can dismantle them all the same way is like... we all wish
tldr: I’m not a gender studies history professor and I sure af don’t have a solution but I’d like to presume that sticking for feminism that includes everyone including men who are legit pro women’s rights without talking about any other woman, doing on ground activism, not vote for assholes and looking at what policies they preach, being intersectional and keeping in mind that feminism = equal rights/equality not doing actual regressive things like idk that time someone said separating male and female children in obligatory school was a great idea (it’s not) is how you make sure we don’t lose what rights we gained in the past century or so, and surely like violent protest or making generalizations or terfism are so not the ways to go imvho *shrug*

Why the fuck do Arkansans vote against their own self interest? Why are we so stupid and jaded? How does Tom Fuck ass Cotton keep being reelected? How?! Arkansans are either stupid or they aren't voting.
To this day, I still can't understand how most of Arkansas is made up of very poor, working class people that make up to 20,000 a year, if they're lucky, and /still/ vote republican.
Bitch, those Republican tax cuts aren't going to affect you at all. Our schools fucking suck andn't funded well, our infrastructure leaves so fucking much to be desired, Tom Cotton and French Hill do 👏🏼 not 👏🏼 care 👏🏼 about 👏🏼 you
I'm at a loss. We have the potential for so much.
Joyce Elliot didn't grab French Hill's seat because she's too Neolib and doesn't really support the BLM protests. If she changed her stances JUST A LITTLE, maybe she could of got it. I just ughhhh
Plus ppl running unapposed?!!! Ughhhhgh
This is what makes me feel like the state of Arkansas hates me and all lefty young people.
I just guess I have to realize that the vast majority of the country isn't a 24 year old Democratic socialist lgbt artist.
At least I'm off today...

I honestly don’t know how to explain how rad housing unions are to ppl who’ve never experienced them, but like. Housing Unions turn renting into a fucking perk for the tenants. They are unobtrusive and passive and seem mellow and non-radical, but, pardon my french, they are the fucking chads of the unions. There’s a lot of German housing unions that date back to the Kaiserreich. Do you know how much busting those withstood? Bismark, Hyper-inflation, the Nazis, carpet-bombing and the Ammis couldn’t kill these bitches. They are the only unions the Nazis just couldn’t bust!
And sure, my union mellowed out significantly from the days when Nice PPL In Uniform would apparently invite themselves for tea and talk loudly about What A Shame It Is About So-And-So Being Send For Reeducation For Criminal Activity At A Riot Huh? Must Be So Hard On His Pregnant Wife which was an actual thing that allegedly happened to someone in my fam (The uncomfy tea with Mr-Officer, not the Deportation stuff). But it’s still the place where ppl like me and my friends (below minimum wage, trade school, nursing school, on government student loans, immigrant families, working class or first-gen middle class) get prioritized over Justus-The-Law-Students’ Dads’ bottomless wallet.
But the thing is that if you can scratch together the money you can write your union code the way you want, and you can start your union with a single shitty house or huts tiny-houses on a field somewhere, and you can make it as radical as you want and you can make the upkeep-dues as low as you can get or scale them to income or waive them for homeless folks. It’s also a way for ppl with some money to actually uplift and stabilize neighborhoods at the ‘bottom’ of a gentrification curve, instead of accidentally kick-starting the process and then being priced out themselves. And unlike regular unions, these don’t have to ‘do’ anything except provide housing (no protesting, no thing for the cops and law to beat at and Nice PPL to Ah and Oh and But Must They about) and they tie together groups of neighbors over co-workers (making the base more stable, diverse and decentralized, and thus making busting so much harder, while potentially offering protection to the ppl excluded/most vulnerable in labor movements like everyone working in a grey or prosecuted area (sex workers, day workers, self-employed folks without over-head, undocumented folks) and those without active income/employment/on GovAssistant (disabled, elderly))
And they can’t stop you because you aren’t individuals buying property to start an anti-capitalist commune, you are A Corporate Entity Acquiring And Managing Real Estate, with all the tax breaks and perks and legal protections that gives you. I’m no real estate lawyer, but I feel like this should be possible in the US, what with it’s absolute disregard for private building codes or curtailing of corporate entities.
Or you know. Start a church in Texas. Idk.
Unionize your housing! Even the Nazis couldn’t bust it!

Since you are Canadian, can you tell us some fun facts about Canada that non-Canadians might not know?
I’m not entirely Sure what non-Canadians might know abt Canada but I’ll Try anyway
So y’know Tim Horton’s? Named after an Actual Guy, a hockey player, in fact! From what I know he didn’t play for Canada long, and was moved to an American team (bc we like. share a hockey league) but Canadians Loved this guy. I’m not sure How the restaurant chain got named after him exactly, since this stuff was a Bit before my time dgdfgdfg Anyway Tim Horton’s is a Big part of Canadian culture, kinda up there w Hockey and beavers. A good way to start a fight w a Canadian is insisting that Timbits Aren’t “Timbits” but in fact “doughnut holes” and that they’re Saying it Wrong
Also abt Hockey, while it Is a big thing here, it’s not our national sport! Our national sports are Lacrosse and Ringette
The stereotype that Canadians are nice and polite is a Fucking Lie. We’re just as bad as Americans but we’re not that up front abt it (yes, this includes racism). Also we live next to America, which kinda makes us look nicer in comparison lol
Opossums are only native to like One part of Canada, and that’s in Central Southern BC
Our current Prime Minister, Trudeau, is a performative piece of shit. He’ll go march in protests to show “support” but not Do anything outside of that. Don’t be fooled by his prettyboy facade
A lot of Canadians, including myself, do say “Eh” (although some Don’t bc it’s not part of their vernacular/they don’t want to be seen as a stereotype bc ppl (Americans) have made fun of us for it) (also I say it frequently irl but don’t online bc “eh” can easily be misconstrued as “eh” as in “meh” ond not “eh” as in “ay”)
“Eh” is a versatile little word, it’s mostly used in place of “what”/”come again?”/”y’know?” or just used to make a question or statement sound less firm, i.e., “they said it’s going to rain today, eh?” or “take the trash on your way out, eh?” That being said, it is informal so you won’t typically see it on like. signs and stuff (outside of like ads)
Packaging for p much everything is in both English and (Quebecois) French
Canadian French (Quebecois French) is different from Metropolitan French (France French). From what I know Quebecois French has a lot more archaic terms and is more slangy, and also Quebecois will speak French w you even if you’re bad w it, while French ppl will stop and just start speaking to you in English bc they don’t like hearing their mother tongue butchered
And that’s p much all I can think of. However, this isn’t a definitive list since our country is multicultural and I’m a white person living in BC, so my view is gonna be different than others
Also you should try Nanaimo Bars. They’re yummy

so! literally no one asked, but these last 3 weeks have been a hell of a ride let me TELL YOU
so happy mun-day now you get to hear all about it!! (with pictures, I’m not a monster)
here’s the cliffnotes version:
december week 1: simultaneously moved back into a place and took classes then moved out of that place while taking classes and planning a 2-day overland trip from sweden to madrid. took said trip.
december week 2: attended the unfccc climate conference COP25 in madrid, got kicked out for protesting in solidarity with indigenous ppl & kids, got let back into COP the next day & proceeded to go to more panels and also protests. no i did not see greta thunberg but she was there. I did not see harrison ford either. I did shake al gore’s hand tho.
december week 3: week #1 with my mom’s new twin one-eyed cyclops kitties (yes both of them), spent the week frantically writing 2400 words of nonsense that hopefully resolved themselves into two coherent enough papers to snag me a nice grade then took a 36-hour trip up to london to see my sister perform at her bitchin new job.
elaboration under the cut.
Hell Week (or) Why You Sometimes Should Fly to Climate Conferences
So, after the nonsense with The Roommate From Hell (reddit rant here), I moved out of my room at her place and back into the dorms (where I still had a lease through the end of December). That required a fair bit of effort, but I moved things bit by bit over the course of about a week, and it was manageable.
But I had to be out of the dorms and have the place clean by the time I left for the climate conference, which in itself was a whole lot of coordination. Wednesday the 4th of December was probably among the worst, most frustrating days I have ever had, and I desperately hope I never have to deal with that level of fuck this fuck you fuck me fuck everything for a very, very long time. Somehow -- by some miraculous act of the gods -- I pulled it out, and managed to get my stuff into my friend’s basement, my plants into another friend’s apartment, my bags packed, my room clean as a whistle, my self moved into my hostel, and to every damn class that week. My interrail tickets came the day I planned to leave -- it was a tight fit -- and I managed to book trains and busses from Uppsala to Madrid with half an hour to spare, and get on the first train (Uppsala to Stockholm) in good time.
The next 48 hours went like this:
Stockholm -> Copenhagen (by train): uneventful, but Copenhagen train station on a Friday night is a little dicey, especially when you’re dragging around a 45 lb suitcase and another 15 lbs on your back
Copenhagen -> Hamburg (by overnight FlixBus): Uneventful, and I was sitting by a window with no one sitting next to me, so I was able to doze a bit on the trip.
Hamburg -> Basel (by high-speed rail): This one I should have booked. The website said that a reservation was recommended, and I understand why. If I’d had a quiet cabin -- or even just a consistent seat for the whole 7-hour journey -- I’d have been able to get a decent night’s sleep. Instead, I kept having to move to give people their reserved seats, and didn’t get more than an hour of uninterrupted sleep.
Basil -> Olten (train): this one was a mistake
Olten -> Brienz (train): where the fuck am I
Brienz -> Lausanne (train): oh right yes that’s the direction I want to go yes good get on that one
Lausanne -> Geneva (train): oh thank fuck, I 100% know where I am and am back on track. Sunglasses & 30 hours without sleep is a Look.
Geneva: Spend 3 hours with my mom, put a week’s worth of clothes into a considerably smaller suitcase, eat dinner. meet mom’s new kittens, Saga and Luna
Tumblr media
Geneva -> Lyon (bus): Get confused about which bus to get on, get told off by the bus driver we were trying to convince to let us on his bus, realized mom had been trying to put me on the wrong bus. Get on the right bus. Go to Lyon with bus driver who speaks no French or English, only Spanish.
Lyon -> Barcelona (night bus): Hell. Just. Absolute Hell Bus. Wanted To Die all night. Assigned to aisle seat just before the very back next to a very, very tall man who was quite polite but had no room for his legs. Behind us were two men, one of whom was loudly chewing gum until he took off his shoes and fell asleep, the other of whom snored like a gd bulldozer. Aisle seat and wailing baby a few rows down meant that my chances of sleeping comfortably were 0. I did manage to doze off a bit, but only because I was so strung out from not sleeping the night before. Eventually made it to Barcelona alive and lent my phone to the very nice lady with the wailing baby (plus like 5 other family members, none of whom had cell service).
Barcelona -> Madrid (train): Absolutely gorgeous train ride through the Spanish countryside that I really did want to stay awake to enjoy. Managed to do so until we got to an elevation where it was just thick, dense fog and I let myself fall asleep.
Madrid: I arrived at my hostel groggy, dazed, and in pain from two bad nights in a row. I considered a nap, but also considered that I’d need to wake up early the next morning and would need to fall asleep. Opted to try to set up my COP25 blog instead. Failed due to aforementioned grogginess. Walked to the corner to get some food and tried to pay for it with Swedish kronor, which didn’t work. Apologized, explained to the amused man that it had been a long weekend, paid him in Euros instead. Used the hostel’s dry sauna (!!!!), took a shower, and went to bed.
COP25 - The Old White Fuckening
Tumblr media
So, listen, I’m not going to go into detail about COP. If you want to read about how much of a tonedeaf clusterfuck the negotiations were (as opposed to the really interesting, inspiring stuff happening in the side sessions), BBC has some good articles.
If you want to listen to some of the press conferences and plenaries, here they are. I especially recommend the ones by the Women’s Earth and Climate Caucus, Fridays for Future, and as many of the Indigenous Peoples’ statements as you can (most of them are in Spanish and/or Portuguese. Because the COP was supposed to be held in Chile, many of the registered Indigenous participants were from Amazonas because it was supposed to not be far to travel).
If you want to listen to some of the side events, the webcasts have been recorded here. Click the link, and then click “Join the event.” I again recommend the ones by Indigenous groups (if you can understand them -- we all had translation headphones in the sessions, but I don’t speak Spanish, so I can’t really go back and revisit them). Also, this "feminist attempt at connecting the dots” on “climate crisis, corporate power, and climate finance” and this one session from a Nigerian NGO and the government about One Health and the connection between climate change, disease, and other health risks -- and how badass Nigeria is at tackling them.
On the subject of tonedeafness, some absolute bullshit went down on Wednesday, December 11th.
Here is the article on BBC, but it’s a bit incomplete.
Here’s what happened.
COP25 2: The Old White Fuckeninger (Starring Military Police!)
So on Wednesday, December 11th, Greta Thunberg -- environmental wunderkind with truly glorious bitchface -- sat on a panel before a hall full of condescending adults in which she demanded accountability and immediate action from national leaders.
At the end of her speech, the delegation of Fridays for Future -- Greta’s own youth movement, which has become a global phenomenon -- stormed the stage. Representatives of Fridays for Future admitted that they knew what they were doing was against the rules, and they were ready to face the consequences: having their admission badges taken away (being “debadged”), and not being blacklisted from future UNFCCC events.
Neither of these things happened. Instead, UNFCCC praised the young activists, and let them keep their badges.
A few hours later, another activist group in attendance -- not an Indigenous one, a point that was raised by a young Native American man during the Fridays for Future press conference -- staged a sit-in outside the main hall where a large plenary meeting was scheduled. Said meeting was full of gimmicks, including a live call to the International Space Station so an astronaut could talk about the view of climate change from space.
I was going to attend the plenary. I joined the protest instead.
Admittedly, the decision was partly made for me by security. After pushing, shoving, and jostling the (mostly adult, heavily Indigenous, mostly PoC, heavily female, heavily Queer) protesters, as well as violently snatching their badges off their lanyards, security started herding them -- as well as anyone in proximity -- out into the open docking area outside the hall. One woman nearby, who hadn’t meant to join the protest and who had just been filming, tried to duck out of the group and got sternly told by a security guard “No. Keep going forward. No turning back.” A similar thing had happened to me -- I hadn’t made up my mind about joining the protest, because I didn’t have all the information -- but security made the decision, and in the end, I’ll always prefer to be with the people facing the police rather than those they’re protecting.
It was... furious. It was emotional. The leaders of the protest had us form a circle and turn our backs on security and the door. WoC -- many of whom were Indigenous -- led not just standard protest chants, but songs. Renewal songs, fight songs. The common theme was the intersection of environmental justice and femininity, queerness and suffering under colonization, anti-capitalism, anti-exploitation, and a call for colonizers to repay the colonized for all of the loss and damage already caused by climate change (climate reparations).
Eventually, UNFCCC made a decision. They decided to close the door on us. Security “escorted” us to the docking bay entrance, and the military police took over. Fortunately, none of them started anything. Obviously, none of the protesters did either. We made it back to the venue entrance eventually, but only those with journalist/media badges were allowed back in; the rest of us were not. Even people with Observer badges (like mine) who hadn’t been part of the protest weren’t being allowed in. But some people who were panelists, delegates, etc. came out to stand in solidarity with us.
Once it became clear that no more joint actions would be taking place, I went home, and waited to see whether the negotiators would be able to talk UNFCCC into letting us back in.
They did. Can you imagine the headlines? “UNFCCC Kicks Out Protesters, Bars Civil Society Observers From Climate Talks.”
Talk about going down like a lead balloon.
Which is about what the conference in general did. I was able to go back and get some more stuff out of it... including another big protest, this time led by Fridays for Future and sanctioned. It was so, so good. Many of the people from Wednesdays protest were also there, and while spirits weren’t exactly high, the emotions being expressed were more along the lines of determination and tenacity than fire and fury. Both are valid, and both have their place, and it was nice to have a balance -- especially at the end of the week, when we were all flat-out exhausted.
The Aftermath
And then I just didn’t stop moving. Saturday and Sunday I spent exploring Madrid and staying out late, Monday I flew back to Geneva from Madrid (because absolutely fuck Spanish busses and also absolutely FUCK FRANCE’s weeks-long general strike that I’m sure was for something very important. I’m sure. Because France never strikes over trivial things).
Tuesday-Friday was a takehome exam that I swear to god was more labor-intensive than my actual undergrad thesis, and Saturday-Sunday I flew to London to visit my sister at her new job as an actor in Shrek’s Adventure. Mom was supposed to go with me, but she has a slipped disk and sent me up alone. Which was nice -- my sister and I almost never hang out just the two of us. But that’s another thing I’ve been dealing with -- quite a bit of extra Stuff To Do that Mom Can’t Do because Back Hurty and there have been days when she literally could not move.
But now I am here! I still have work to do, and it’s holidays so there’s Holiday Stuff happening, but I’m hoping to get back to writing here in the next few days.
And if you’ve read all of this, you’re fucking incredible and I love u and here are some one-eyed black babie kitty gremlins for ur viewing pleasure.

@draculater  replied to your post “oh the french government is really trying to carry over the military...”
jesus that's downright scary what are they thinking??
Hellcountry ٩( ᐛ )و
no joke though things had been going all sort of levels of wrong this last year in term of politics so much so that Amnesty International (y’know the organization focusing on the fact human rights must be respected toward the world) actually called out the government multiple times those past few months, especially after they deployed the military to handle protests by making an official announcement about how there might be “casulties” (since the military is ready to handle “more complicated cases” and won’t “go as easy as the police does”, while there was already a lot of records of police brutality yikes)
Like a few months ago a woman who was like 75yo was protesting about rights for eldery people (not sure the details i think it was bc retirement rights had been limited again) and a policemen knocked her over and she got her skull opened on the ground and y’know what our oh glorious president said? “well she knew it would be dangerous and with her age she should have stayed at her place”. Which is even bolder considering she was protesting something that concerned her. But glad this is how we answer about police violence.
I don’t even know where we’re at with the Yellow Jackets anymore but there was so much violations of human rights during that time it was crazy (like police sending teargass in a flat and an old woman died in it and they claimed it was redirected by the protesters to make them look bad) - and there had been restrictions about how to protest, which is one of the fundamental human rights so that’s like already fucked up.
And yeah since the begining of last school year there had been constant students protests because the State is changing a lot how studies should be done and it’s screwing over everyone, students don’t know how to make their studies anymore, it puts back into questions how our diploma had worked so far (personally i do wonder how the hell it’s going to work for administration in supperior schools like uni and such that’s how bad they changed it), teachers are lost, and they had made the way for admission in supperior school more random than it used to be (long story, but stupid from the gov and it was admitted it was to not “overcrowd” the supperior school’s classes. fucking hell.) ect.. so students are protesting, and like i mentioned in tags, some protests go far and one case had the police forces a group of teens on their knees with their hands behind their head, a video that went online (filmed by the goddamn cops themselves btw, that was humiliation that’s all it was) hearing a policeman saying that it is how “we teach them respect”.
The whole “military programs” were in their electoral notes when the elections were happening and everyone hated the hell out of it, but they took so much bad decisions ppl had to revolt against that they still sneaked it under our noses, just saw how they were “advancing” on the military programs earlier today.
And all of this bullshit is on the pretext of “teaching back teens how to respect the country” because “most teens don’t even know the importance of our hymn” or things like that aND JFC. Isn’t it WONDERFUL that people who had been guilty of violences against said demographic is going because they “needed to be taught respect” are now OFFICIALLY going to be taking care of those kids for this EXACT reason? Peak Pro Human Righs Country.
And holy shit i just saw right now that apparently they are /actually ready/ to start the military program anytime soon and just got a brunch of highschooler to make the logo for the Service in question (for free, of course) they are so shameless.
im so tired man, i dont pay attention for what’s going on in france for a few days and it does this sort of things it’s tiring af. but yay France i guess.
