Winter of Wands. Art by Caitlin Cordell, from the Unruly Beings Tarot.
Winter is the time for deep rest, reflection and restoration. A positive side effect of creating space in our lives, is the expansion of the creative and generative parts of ourselves that have been dormant during the hustle of the other seasons. Maybe you are finally seeing the habits you’ve been stuck in that aren’t allowing you to be your fully expressive self. Or maybe you’re making time for creative expression that represents the goals and dreams you’ve always wanted to explore. The winter gives us time to dive deep into our truths. Allow the winter to give your mind and body the nourishment it needs for your powerful creativity to materialize.
Pictured is a dragonfly on yarrow during a winter storm. Dragonflies represent power and speed that can only be sustained through lots of food. They can help us remember to fuel up in order to support the sparks and dynamic movement we want to embody. Yarrow is a powerful healing plant. Yarrow reminds us to tend to our wounds and past hurt so that we can move forward with clarity.
Hmm. My Greek mythology is rusty enough, I had to look up Themis, I won't lie, but my well of hatred for "misogynistic ancient myths" is deep enough that I recognize the name Erichthonius.
Now a whole new generation of people can be grossed out by that story! Hooray...
Caitlin Marceau: good day and welcome to my story eh?
Marceau: i'm caitlin marceau eh?
Marceau: and i call this the tale of the toxic parent-child relationship
King: no caitlin you have to say the words
King: "submitted for the approval of the midnight society"
Marceau: oh, take off!
Marceau: it's about this woman who goes to a weekend cabin retreat with her smothering mom eh?
Marceau: but let me tell you
Marceau: parents just don't understand
Marceau: so this woman is stuck with her mom in this cabin in the isolated canadian wilderness
Marceau: but this mom?
Marceau: just a real hoser, eh?
Marceau: ends up pushing her down a cliff eh
Marceau: lucky thing we got that socialized medicine eh
Marceau: the woman is all "mom, i'm hurt real bad eh? i think you better call the mounties eh?"
Marceau: and her mom is all "take off! all you need is some poutine and a nice glass of maple syrup and you'll be all good eh?"
Marceau: so they stay trapped in the great white north eh
Marceau: [drinking milk from a bag] with nary a tim hortons in sight
Marceau: they might be trapped in a cabin in the middle of nowhere during a blizard eh
Marceau: but the real horror is being trapped in a co-dependent relationship with a narcissistic parent eh
Marceau: and a mysterious smell in the cabin eh
William Faulkner: a smell you say?
Marceau: this one knows what i'm talking about eh
Marceau: i've brought canadian treasure geddy lee to help explain it eh?
King: geddy lee of Rush?!?!
King: geddy lee of the band Rush!?!
Geddy Lee: take offffffff
Lee: to the great white north!!!
Lee: take offffffff
Lee: it's a beauty where ya goooo!!!!
Lee: take offfffff!!!
Marceau: [drilling auger into maple tree] see ya just let the sap out just so eh?
[lor gislason oozes out of tree and fills bucket]
Marceau: oh, take off!
i finished reading the shining last night -- pretty good!! this is the first stephen king title ive read other than the short story he wrote w his son joe hill, in the tall grass, which i looooved. shining was very well-told and the characters were rly nicely developed but overall i rly didnt find it scary...def gna watch the film soon (which ive never seen) bc ive been told by Everyone that its way different than the book and v scary. all in all it was a solid read that went by very fast bc king has a succinct but engaging writing style... and i def want to read doctor sleep knowing its abt danny after hes grown up a bit
