“You have to stop doing this.”

The devil’s plea fell on deaf ears. Vic could only flick his eyes heavenward in a fit of blasphemous humor when Alicia Davenport freed him from a hug. He sighed and released his palms from her arms and maybe the lopsided quirk of his mouth wasn’t as severe as it could have been.

“Okay,” Alicia lied with a wide smile.

“I mean it. Shoo.”

This was met with a kiss on his cheek and Vic huffing before he waved the young woman away. She waved back before breaking into a jog and disappearing down the street. The devil waited until she was well out of sight before shaking his head and smiling to himself as he tucked a bit of hair behind his ear.

Fucking hell.

She’d caught him picking up some mail this time. (Alright, ‘caught’ was a strong word.) Every now and then the soft-spoken human appeared in his periphery like the weight of their shared secret kept pulling them together, though them living in adjacent neighborhoods was the real reason for their occasional run-ins. He’d been careful to keep an eye on her because it was his duty as a gentleman to cut her off at the quick if any interest in him developed beyond ‘freaky guy who saved my life.’

That hadn’t happened (and she was a lesbian.) What had happened was her insistence on a friendship of a kind, and, eh—maybe Vic didn’t push back too hard on it because at least she was keeping her distance otherwise. Ambushing him at the corner of a post office for a few seconds was fine.

And why was he at the post office? To pick up a package, of course. Why hadn’t it been sent to the house? Because Vic happened to live with a mischievous Caligo who couldn’t be trusted not to mess with it if he found it first. That just wouldn’t do, not when the package contained a gift for him.

Vic slid said delivery into the seat next to him as the car roared to life. The dangly, red devil charm hanging from the mirror sparkled against the tinted shades Vic slipped on when he stopped to check himself in the mirror. He smiled at his reflection, flicked his tongue out and finished tying up the rest of his hair. The radio had popped on with the engine and picked up where it’d left off: on the playlist he and Tom had slapped together for the times they felt like tearing up the road on one of their high-speed ventures, and the devil was content to let it stay that way.

He finished primping and checked his phone. Tom got a warning that Vic was on his way back (whether the vampire was home or not. If he wasn’t, maybe he would be.) A few others got memes, his dad got a reply and a series of hearts… (Pfft, Logan liked MCR? Who’d have guessed?) ...

… Aaand, perfect.

Vic sat in the car a little longer. An odd feeling settled over him when he leaned back in the driver’s seat and gazed out over the dashboard with one gloved hand tracing the wheel. The Maroa streets stretched out in a haze and the car’s A/C purred over the sound of distant traffic and music. After a moment’s consideration, Vic flicked the air off.

That was enough to stir Mephistopheles from his nap. The black cat rose and gave a great languid stretch when he clambered over the seats from the back. He stopped and sniffed at the package before bumping his head into Vic’s shoulder, to which the devil hummed and bunted back.

“Awake now, harlot?” He teased before scooping Meph against him and kissing him on top of his little silken head. Vic then released him and waited til Meph was settled in the passengers seat next to the box before he finished buckling in.

“C’mon,” he told the cat. “Let’s go home.”

Fuck, Vic thought with quiet amusement and another quick glance at the mirror. It really is home now, huh. There’d been a time when he’d thought he’d left that word behind.

But! There was one pit stop to be made. He’d already grabbed some snacks and a few extra items for the candy drawer back at home because he owed Logan and Skipper that much, but the household was also getting low on non-blood drinks and schnapps and that couldn’t be allowed. Vic pulled up at his favorite liquor store and hopped out to correct this while Meph dozed on top of the package whose box he would surely receive after it was opened.

The sensation hit him again when he was checking out. It grew like a shadow in the back of his mind—not quite clear, but lingering. Vic accepted the drinks and stopped in front of the door.

Several heartbeats passed.

He could hear that same heart in his ears. The rest of the world faded. The doors chimed. Hazy sunlight filtered through the windows and pooled around his booted feet.

Vic gazed out the door and knew the taste filling his mouth for what it was, because everyone was a little different and a waterfall of years can never put out the feeling of taking the hand of someone you thought could be your family only to have them let you be swallowed by fire.

Fire. Vic could feel it crawling up the back of his neck like a ghost. 

Fire.

He stepped out onto the street and the older man who’d been standing next to his—Tom’s—their car looking through the window instead turned to look at Vic.

Fire. It was still written in his face. Years hadn’t diminished the mark it had left or the smile he now wore, set deep amongst well-worn laugh lines and bright eyes shadowed by the sun.

Fire. Vic was burning up just like all those years ago.

You can’t be saved.

The man smiled. “It has been a while.” He looked back down at the car with his hands drawn behind his back.

Fire. 

(Of course it’d be here. Of course it’d be now.)

(Temporarily taking a break from my headcanons and prompts to answer this! C:)

FINAL FANTASY XV ASKS

2) Favorite aspects of the game? Least favorite? Give us The Reviews.Oh gosh, a review? Hm… Let me try explaining it without making it into a full-length monologue.

THE GOOD-The combat system. It’s super paced and always keeps you on your toes, which is something that Final Fantasy XII and XIII didn’t seem to really have. The previous games were either too complicated or too simple, but this one proved to be just ride. Tactical yet mindless, something I enjoy in the games that I play.-The character designs. I’m a super big nerd about character designs, so I’m super glad to be able to look at them all and see all these cool details that relate to the character. Ravus’s and Ardyn’s designs are my favorite because of how many unique details there are that relate to their story and background. Subtle, but clever.-The character dynamics. Particularly with the protagonists, it was easy to tell just how close these guys were, and their relationship only grew more as time passed. The game is designed for you to fall in love with these beloved characters and grow attached to them. And while some were kind of ‘meh,’ the chocobros in particular had a bond that was definitely well-thought out.

THE BAD-The story progression. It was obvious to tell that the game was rushed in terms of story. They spent most of the ten years of development trying to refine a combat system that was really good, but it felt like they put too much into other things like promotional media and the combat that they had to tack together a cohesive story. It was a good plot, but there’s so many details left unsaid. What happened to Ravus? What’s going on with Ardyn? Why does Cid take too damn long on those weapon upgrades? Important questions that should have been answered in the story, but weren’t.-Weaponization. You get alot of different types of weapons for Noctis, which compensates for the lack of weapons. But at the same time, I wanted more. I wanted to be able to find a cool looking non-King’s Arms sword to hack stuff to death with. Or perhaps chakrams instead of daggers? Cool things like that! It would have been cool to have alot of different weapon customization in those aspects rather than just the type of weapons.-CALIGO ULLDOR. Fuck that guy.

4) Did your opinions of any character(s) change? Impressed by a character? Let down?

To be honest, I was honestly unimpressed at first with Ignis, more hyped and excited about seeing Gladio appear in the story than I was with our dear strategist. But as I played the game, my thoughts about them switched quite a bit. I became more fond of Ignis in my party than I did Gladio, which was surprising to me. Ignis was remarkably more sympathetic than Gladio, which was something that contracted my thoughts at first. But ultimately, I have no quarrels with it.I was also rather let down by Ravus when he appeared in the game. I didn’t watch Kingsglaive until after I beat the game. So when Ravus appeared on the screen for the first time, I literally just went ‘OAO WHO IS THAT BISHIE???’ Had to find out more about him, because holy cow, he had such a cool design and seemed really cool! He was even cooler too when he confronted Noctis and the others and showed just how strong he was. Scary…! And yet, they gave him the short end of the stick. No extra screentime, no chance to redeem his butthead behavior, nada. He was just wrecked off-screen, and we’re expected to just shrug it off? Noooo…! I need to know more about the bishie that is Ravus…!

15) Who are some of your favorite XV blogs?Oh no, you’re making me pick favorites…! D: Though I’ll be honest with you, I don’t really follow many FFXV blogs. Weird, right? That, and whatever FFXV blogs I do follow, they typically are multifandom because the more fandoms the better! c: But here are some blogs that I like that do have FFXV content with them! Everyone has a unique and amazing blog, but out of the small handful of blogs I follow, here are some of the FFXV ones!

@too-many-goddamn-fandoms – This person super super sweet and kind and adorable, and was one of the first people to follow me when I first started my FFXV spree. My fellow Ravus fan, and she has some really awesome FFXV OCs too! Always super fun to draw things for her, and being able to talk about OCs or other silly things. Because meeting people on Tumblr. IN I D A H O.

@chancellor-izunia – I talk to her every day ever since I started talking with her about Ardyn/Ravus/Loqi content, and it’s been a pleasure ever since! A wonderful Ardyn RPer, and one that inspires me with fun prompts about Ardyn/Ravus and recently Cor/Loqi. I mean, talking about Ardyn’s chocobo Pookums and other silly thoughts and headcanons is great! I’m really glad to be able to meet her!

@shiverpeaks – One of my babies from my GMV studio! She and I played the game parrallel to each other (maybe, like, an hour difference from when we beat the game), and we just spent the next two days trying to cope with it all. She’s a super talented GMV and graphics editor, and posts some pretty beautiful things on her blog. Worth the follow for all of her content!

@victimofvices – Another person from the GMV community and studios I edit in. She’s super kind and a really talented individual when it comes to writing and video editing. Gosh, she’s someone I aspire to be, kind and thoughtful. She posts alot of Final Fantasy and gaming related things, and is a great blog to follow! You should also ask about her Youtube channel too and see some of her amazing video edits.

@fujoshilyfe – Okay, legit, she’s ridiculously sweet and kind, and I always get excited whenever I see her posts on my dash or have her send me a message. I sound super cheesy when I say this, but it’s true! We exchange alot of music from our ‘thirst’ playlists (because the thirst for Ardyn is legit. Send help to us all!), and I’m super happy that I was able to meet her! And glad that she reintroduced me to Depeche Mode.
