Back to the drawing board (quite literally). I've done a bit of research as to the fish you can find in Canada- focusing on Alberta for now- with all the lakes and rivers there's plenty to choose from. I particularly liked this Arctic Grayling. They can be found in northern Alberta but they're pretty impressive fish! #art #artist #drawing #sketching #canada #calgary #alberta #fish #fishart #canadianfish #arcticgrayling #lino #linocut #linoprint

Jamie Bisher WORLD WAR I IN LATIN AMERICA World War I in Belize. One hundred members from the Belize detachments of the BWIR served with the Inland Water Transport Section of the Royal Engineers in Mesopotamia. (Peter David Ashdown, Garveyism in Belize [Belize City: Society for the Promotion of Education and Research, 1990], p.13; Howe, Race, War, and Nationalism). 1918 Hay becomes a member of Garvey's UNIA Black Cross Nurses. 1919 January The Negro World is withheld from distribution in British Honduras under the Defence of the Colony Regulation. The Belizean soldiers, tired and hungry upon their arrival at the camp, were singing “Rule Britannia” when British soldiers demanded, “who gave you niggers authority to sing that? Clear out of this building only British troops admitted here” July 22 Riot in British Honduras (Belize). Hundreds of people including soldiers begin rioting, smashing windows and looting stores in town, the commission of inquiry later cites Walters failure to remove the ban on the Negro World as one of the riot's main causes. According to Jamie Bisher the rioting soldiers were led by Sergeant H.H. Vernon and Lance Corporal Rufus Hall, Bisher also says that Sergeant Major P.H.E. McDonald and Lance Corporal Samuel Alfred Haynes helped to calm the rioters and suggested that they convene a Contingent Committee in a theatre where they then drew up demands to present to colonial Governor Hutson.

July 31 Governor Eyre Hutson subsequently cited as one of the three reported grievances leading to the Belize Riot of 22 July 1919, “the suppression by Mr. Walter, Acting Governor, in January last of an American newspaper ‘The Negro World’,” to which he added: “… the result of Mr. Walter’s order was, that whereas in January last, only a few copies had been received, since the order many copies had been regularly introduced surreptitiously, and had been largely circulated and read.” (PRO, CO 123/295, Governor Eyre Hutson to Viscount Milner, secretary of state for the colonies, 31 July 1919). 1920 April The charter of the British Honduras branch of the UNIA is unveiled before an assembled membership of 832. May 10 Hutson 'conceded that the Negro World was smuggled into Belize through Mexico and Guatemala “in large numbers than before the ban was placed on it.” Although he was convinced that the Negro World was seditious, he ended the ban but informed the local UNIA that he willl "watch closely its [Negro World] writings and the policy of its advocate. (Gov. Eyre Hutson to the secretary of state for the colonies, 10 May 1920, PRO, CO 371/4567, 5851; Peter D. Ashdown, "Marcus Garvey, the UNIA, and the Black Cause in British Honduras, 1914-1949" [unpublished MS]. June 16 Hutson in a letter to Viscount Milner, Secretary of State at the Colonial Office writes “Mr. S.A. Haynes has resigned his temporary post in the Public Service, and is now touring the country in the interest of the Association. He is also a ‘snake in the grass.’” 2008 August 19 UCLA Professor Robert Hill lectures about Belize’s phenomenal Samuel Haynes article for AMANDALA 'BELIZE'S LEADING NEWSPAPER". Seay establishes the British Honduras branch of the Black Cross Nurses and also leads a survey on infant and maternal mortality resulting in the establishment of nursing training programs for which she recruits nurse trainees.

1921 July 1 Garvey makes his second visit to British Honduras. July 2 Garvey speaks at St. Mary’s Hall in British Honduras. July 5 Hutson sends a transcript of his interview with Garvey to the Secretary for the Colonies, Winston Churchill. July 22 Superintendent of British Honduras Police, H.J. Cavenaugh files report “Marcus Garvey landed about 4:30 p.m. from the CanadianFisher….A good-sized crowd met him and his party. No demonstration of any kind was made and perfect order was maintained. Mr. Garvey was entertained at the house of Mr. I. Morter. I understand he will be staying there during his visit which will be for about four days.” 2008 August 19 UCLA Professor Robert Hill lectures about Belize’s phenomenal Samuel Haynes article for AMANDALA 'BELIZE'S LEADING NEWSPAPER". 1923 Seay assigns 24 trained nurses as unpaid volunteers to the homes of the poor in designated areas of Belize Town in order to provide them with proper parenting training, instruction on sanitation, midwifery services, and general welfare work. 1924 April 7 Morter passes away.

Seay and other Black Cross Nurse’s assist victims of the hurricane in British Honduras and organise a program to provide meals for school children. 1933 Seay campaigns for a male candidate running for the Belize Town Board and is appointment as the boards first female member. One of her first recommendations was the creation of a registry for working women, so that they could enter their specialties, such as child care providers, cooks, maids, laundresses and would not have to go door to door in search of work. November Alfredo Bowman later known as Dr. Sebi is born in the village of Ilanga in Spanish Honduras. 1934 Seay proposes the Palace Theatre to assist in an unemployment fund in conjunction with the BCN to provide groceries to needy families and also becomes the second woman in British Honduras to be awarded as a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). 1935 Seay is presented with her MBE by Governor Alan Burns. She argued in favor of divorce, as a countermeasure to adultery and illegitimacy, and when legalization occurred in 1935, Seay’s activism was credited in large part with its passage. That same year, when the Women’s League and Labourers and Unemployed Association (LUA) women demanded suffrage, Seay spoke in opposition. While she was in favor of lowering women’s voting age to twenty-one, she was not in favor of enfranchising poor women, who were in her view "the rowdy popular classes". As a means of combating opposition from LUA and the Women’s League, Seay proposed that unemployed women be granted land, houses, and training to learn to farm and provide for their families, but the plan was rejected by the Colonial Office. 1936 January 11 Haynes openly criticizes Garvey for his failure to endorse black American efforts to extend aid to the Emperor. Repeated attempts by the national representative of the UNIA in the U.S., Samuel A. Haynes, to persuade Garvey "to issue a ringing proclamation in the 'Blackman' [Black Man] calling upon all Garveyites, and the Negro People Of The World, to go to the immediate defence of Ethiopia against Italy, by raising funds and medical supplies, ect.," proved in vain, despite the severe hemorrhage of loyal supporters that the UNIA was suffering. "Reports from the field show that officers and members are deserting our division to join organisations and movements working to help Hails Selassie and Ethiopia". Haynes reported "while these new movements not yet a year old, are winning the approval and respect if intelligent public opinion for their efforts to help Ethiopia" he noted ironically "the U.N.I.A. which has cried aloud about redeeming Africa for 17 years is dying because it has not lived up to its high sounding principles of Negro nationalism. Disgrace stares us in the face." Samuel A. Haynes, UNIA national representative, to co-workers, Philadelphia, 11 January 1936, " THE U.N.I.A. IN AMERICA IS ABOUT TO DIE! A CALL FOR QUICK ACTION TO SAVE IT!" quoted in MGP 7 663-664. A fictionalized treatment of African American groundswell in support of Ethiopia can be found in George S. Schuyler, Black Empire, comp. Robert A. Hill and R. Kent Rasmussen (Boston: Northeastern University Press, 1992) and Robert A. Hill, ed., Ethiopia Stories (Boston: Northeastern University Press, 1994). 1938 Seay and the BCN conduct a survey of working-class families, the survey is presented to the West India Royal Commission. The report focused on male-led households, minimizing the situation of female-headed families, but confirmed poor housing conditions and diets, as well as high unemployment among “poor respectable families” in Belize Town. 1941 Seay becomes inspector of midwives. 1945 Bowman becomes a caddie. 1948 Bowman works in the Miramar Standard Fruit Company, dairy farm for a year. 1951 Seay becomes the only woman founder of the National Party and is also appointment to the City Council. 1952 Seay co-founds the British Honduras Federation of Women and the federation begin a project to establish an affordable daycare center to assist employed mothers with their children. 1953 Seay is awarded a Coronation Medal. 1954 Bowman travels to the United States by ship. 1960 Bowman has diabetes. Bowman sitting in a barber’s chair in New Orleans makes the statement “I want to be useful. I want to do something great for the Black woman so the world can see how amazing, how beautiful she is.” I was bent on giving her something that would elevate her universally. It was a drive that I could not contain. It came from within—an inner dictate. I didn’t know that I would have to face the American Medical Association, the Food and Drug Administration and the judicial system of the State of New York in representing the gift that I was going to give her, the Black Woman of the world. —The Cure: The Autobiography of Dr. Sebi “Mama Hay” 1961 Bowman is impotent. Bowman is on a ship in the Azores Islands on its way to India, he slips on some oil on the deck of the ship and hurts his spine, he is taken off the ship and brought to hospital, the doctor diagnoses him with schizophrenia and paranoia." 1963 Haynes writes his “Land of the Gods” poem.
Bowman wears glasses and weighs 291 lbs. 1970 Belmopan becomes the capital city of Belize. Bowman works as a steam engineer at Martin Luther King Hospital in the county of Los Angeles, Califonia until 1980. 1971 Seay at 90 years of age passes away. Haynes dies in New Jersey. Jacques Cousteau visits the Great Blue Hole of Belize Barrier Reef in his ship the Calypso.
Tumblr media
The Great Blue Hole is the world's largest sinkhole which measures 300 meters (984 feet) across and 125 meters (410 feet) deep. The Belize Barrier Reef is the second largest Barrier Reef in the world after Austria's Great Barrier Reef. The expedition finds some stalactites in a submerged cave in the hole which proves that the Blue Hole was formed before ocean levels rose. Investigations by this expedition confirmed the hole's origin as typical karst limestone formations, formed before rises in sea level in at least four stages, leaving ledges at depths of 21 m (69 ft), 49 m (161 ft), and 91 m (299 ft). Some of these stalactites were also off-vertical by 5˚ in a consistent orientation, indicating that there had also been some past geological shift and tilting of the underlying plateau, followed by a long period in the current plane. The tilt indicates that this was a movement of the land, rather than a rise in sea level alone. "What IS at the bottom of Belize’s Great Blue Hole? Plastic bottles: Richard Branson's expedition to the giant sea hole found pollution next to startling signs of climate change" By Yuan Ren For MailOnline 2019 January 18. Cousteau declares the great Blue Hole one of the top five scuba diving sites in the world. 1973 British Honduras is renamed Belize.
Tumblr media
1980 Bowman leaves Martin Luther King Hospital "When I left MLK in 1980, I was already prepared with the knowledge of compounding herbs and making certain recommendations, which were working to reverse disease. This increased my confidence and enhanced my rapidly growing reputation." 1981 September 21 Belize gains her Independence and Haynes’ “Land of the Gods” poem is adopted as the Belize National Anthem.
Tumblr media
Bowman arrives in St. Croix. 1983 Bowman leaves St. Croix. 1987 February 10 Bowman is arrested. 1988 November Bowman is tried in the New York Supreme Court charged with practicing medicine without a licence, selling products not approved by the Food and Drugs Administration and falsely claiming to cure aids and other diseases. 1989 Bowman's products are identified by Lancaster Laboratories in Pennsylvania as being "made of Natural Vegetation Cell Food."

And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day. Genesis 1:11-13 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Genesis 1:29-31 And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine. Ezekiel 47:12 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Revelation 22:2 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it. 2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god. 3 And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;
4 Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
5 And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king. 6 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: 7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.
8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. 9 Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. 10 And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.
11 Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. 13 Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. 14 So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days. 15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat. 16 Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.
17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. 18 Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. 19 And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. 20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
21 And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus. Daniel 1
