S: Point is the most basic element of all, only being a small part of an entire image, but in order for to be significant it needs to contrast with its setting. If more than one point is added the image loses its simplicity because it creates distance between them, the strength of the relationship between multiple points vary and depends on how dominant the points are and how receding the background is. Since the eye naturally moves from one point to another, this creates line within the image. Lines contain the dynamic features of direction and movement along their length, producing a natural comparison between angle and length. Horizontal and vertical lines are complementary, each one acts as a stop to the other and work together to  create a sense of balance. Diagonal lines have a stronger sense of direction and speed, also carrying some association with depth and distance.            

Chiaroscuro is an Italian expression that refers specifically to the dramatic modeling of subjects in painting by means of shafts of light illuminating dark scenes. The use of shadows and highlights contribute strongly to the mood and atmosphere of an image. When an image favors shadow tones, this is known as low key while an image that favors light tones is known as high key. Using contrast and brightness as a guide, the choice of style for an image depends on three things: the characteristics of the scene, the way the scene is lit, and the photographer’s interpretation.

This scene has examples of framing, pattern, spot and line, and chirascuro. The way that the framing is set up makes the fish tank stand out as the main subject, while the mother and her son are just a small component of the entire image. The fish tank takes up the entire length of the frame, but it is shown as the background of the image. The placement of the mother and her son causes a distinct contrast between the foreground and the background. Pattern can be seen in the coral that is placed inside the tank, taking up a majority of the inside. There are repeating colors and shapes that stand out against the dark lighting. There are several different points within the image, one of them being the mother and the son which creates a line between the two, producing a sense of distance and movement. Other points within the image can be seen between items that are placed in the tank, once again giving the illusion of distance and movement. Despite the bright light coming from the fish tank, the overall image has lowkey lighting which causes the tank to stand out compared to everything else that is placed within the frame.

We found the subject but we altered it by human interaction through washing hands. We changed the frame to give the viewers different context. For example, a greater view of the bathroom and sink. We added hands to create a sense of interaction and personalization.

Dijo Stephen Hawkins poco antes de morir que en 100 años al mundo lo dominarían las máquinas, y hoy que releo esta frase me hizo acordar de algo que me pasó una noche hace unos años cuando entré a la Petrobras a comprar cigarrillos, no me acuerdo si por encargo o para mí cuando todavía fumaba. Sería un rato antes de la medianoche, hacía frío y no andaba ni un alma. Detrás de la vitrina pulcra y glacial, insalvable como el estrado de un juez, un flaco alto y desgarbado de gorra enfrascado en su teléfono, me atendió mirando a cualquier parte:-Buenas noches. -Qué tal? un Camel 10 por favor.-  el flaco estira un brazo arriba con su chaqueta colorinche y baja una cajita de Camel y la pasa por el escáner, tip! .. y se queda mirando la pantalla del ordenador, la pasa de vuelta   tip!  y de vuelta    tip!-Sabés que no te lo puedo vender..-Qué pasa?-Es que deben haber actualizado los precios y no los cargaron en la máquina. -Y no me lo podés cobrar al precio de antes?..-se encogió de hombros como si me estuviera negando el último asiento en una patera- y bueno no sé  cargale lo que corresponda, no lo podés calcular?-Disculpame pero no te puedo vender..-

Inmediatamente se me vino a la mente mi tía Porota, que junto con mi viejo tenían un kiosco en Elflein, entre Moralesy Quaglia, donde pasamos tantos momentos de críos, la vi parada delante de la estufa comiéndose una naranja  de las que traía bolsas, riéndose con quien estuviera hablando en ese momento  y me pregunté: ¿por qué razón se le hubiese ocurrido a mi tía negarle un paquete de cigarrillos a alguien?. . me acordé de los clientes de siempre: Tetesita  de La Peña del Bebé, el librero de en frente, Mario, el mozo de Caza Mayor con su vocablo amanerado y siempre peinado hacia atrás y de un negro impoluto, la gente del edificio de enfrente y los viejos que eran vecinos de la cuadra, don Nikola  trabado en su acento serbio y que tenía el restaurant en la misma vereda, Pezzuolli que era el dueño del local y el gallego Pedro de La Andina, catalán trasplantado y nunca devuelto y al que mi viejo lo gastaba con esa implacable picardía callejera que compartían con Raúl  y que si te agarraban juntos era para desternillarse un rato largo.  Todos se reían, hasta los más amargos. Más que transacciones eran charlas que podían estirarse horas, Quintana que acababa de abrir 1810 en la cuadra siguiente, Iván de la tintorería, me acuerdo de un borracho de apellido Vertero que siempre andaba listo y con un olor a escabio que volteaba, pasaba a comprar cigarrillos negros arrastrando una jerga inentendible  con la cara roja, y cuando iba a pagar se metía la mano por el forro descosido hasta el fondo del saco y sacaba pedazos de queso y de salame que iba amontonando hasta que encontraba un puñado de papeles arrugados, la operación tardaba lo suyo mientras mi tío Galindo contenía la risa y le ayudaba a separar los billetes... Todos estos personajes cruzaron mi cabeza en unos pocos segundos y dejaron en mí una sensación de humanidad, de gente que era gente, que la extrañé como quien tira una mordida en sueños buscando un poco de esa miel, quise imaginarme a Nino Castro buscando su fascículo mensual de jazz con un vinilo adentro y a mi tía negándose a dárselo porque no se lo leía el escáner y fue tan incongruente y triste, que se me cayó algo adentro. Y ahí estaba el flaco mirándome como si estuviera loco, con su cara impersonal, en aquel cubículo impersonal de quien ya no habla el mismo idioma, él empleado del escáner metido en aquel uniforme denigrante y pensé  que quizás no tengan que pasar 100 años para que nos dominen las máquinas, quizás ya somos sus esclavos y sin que tengan que hacer gala de ninguna fría perfección, sino tan solo hundiéndonos en el pantano de esta estupidez que amenaza con tragarlo todo. -Macho vos tenés un problema. . disculpame pero tenés un problema.- le dije y me di la vuelta para salir de allí. Me cerré la campera antes de salir al frío invernal, aunque adentro ya hacía frío. /
