Ello, I’m back! My lord demands another sacrifice. He has tainted many a soul, but the ones he hasn’t touched since forever because of their wood-dwelling, animalistic ways… the Metzgers.
(I imagine they have little monster features because the kids grew up in the woods, like Lumberaxe)
May I ask for a picture of them? It will give my king more vigilance to swallow them into the black and white.
A lot of people are suggesting ships here and I'd like to throw one out there: metziggs. Is it Ziggy/Carl? Ziggy/Lars? Ziggy/Louie? Who knows :D
And I know it might seem a lil toxic considering all three tried to kill them (and emma) but hear me out, it could have such an interesting enemies to friends to lovers dynamic.
And does this ship mostly exist because I was reading the ranger in the kings forest comic? Maybe. But it still has so much potential! Begging yall to consider it pls TwT
Here is my take on the Jon Matteson character family tree! Under the cut because it got very long. I spent way too long on this. Random headcannons I came up with below.
Jon’s Nighthawk is not actually related because he is a bird, but he always shits on Carl Metzger. Louie always said it was good luck to to make his brother feel better about it.
Bob’s first two children were taken by Blinky, so now he keeps a very close eye on the rest.
Bob is long-lived because of the magic in the Witchwood. (I was trying to get him to be around the same age as Emma’s great grandfather. If I did ages I could make it work but the generations messed me up.)
Everyone in Hatchetfield hates Carl Mason for no reason. They refuse to listen to his broadcasts, which led to more people getting hurt on Black Friday.
Wallace always has to field questions about his brother, who is not a great man. The Northville Actor’s wife left him and took Trevor back to Hatchetfield. Sidenote: If anyone has the link to the primary source of the Secretary of Defense’s name, please let me know or add it to the wiki.
I wrote a post recently about my history (normally I'd link it but I don't want to be narcissistic), and realized that I've read a fair few occult books over the years. So here's the list; I'll keep updating it as I find more books in my various libraries and book stashes.
Quick note before getting into this list--not everything I've read will make it. Just the stuff I read and recommend others parse through. For example, I have intentionally omitted my studies in Kabbalah to discourage others from unintentionally appropriating.
But by "parse through", I truly mean that. My path has meandered through several schools of thought and wandered into appropriative territory at times (I constantly strive to correct any appropriation in my practice that gets brought to my attention). Maybe about 20% of each book makes it into my current path.
Eh, so it wasn't so quick of a note. Here's the list:

while i'm still thinking abt npmd, i think it's kinda funny how when the trailer dropped, a handful of people were like "oh, i hope jon plays the nerd-killing spirit! that'd be such a subversion of expectations!", but like,,, no? it really wouldn't?? like, here's a list of major- or at least notable characters that jon has played in hatchetfield.
paul/paul 23
gary
wiggly
the secretary of defense (jon gave him the name "wallace mcneill", iirc?)
the watcher world ticket taker
roman murray
carl metzger
boy jerry
daniel
that's 9 characters, 10 if you wanna count paul 23 as a separate character from paul. 6/10 of those characters- 7/10 if, again, you wanna count paul 23, are villains or at least antagonistic. many of them quite unhinged! i think paul left such a strong impression as jon's first character, that it kinda tricked us into thinking that jon's character type is "socially-awkward but lovable protagonists", when really his type is "unhinged villains". possibly even moreso than jeff, at least when it comes to hatchetfield. him playing the nerd-killing spirit would just be business as usual, tbh, i mean a school-haunting ghost that despises nerds so much that it kills them sounds pretty fucking batshit if you ask me.
i'm very much team "jon takes over as pete for npmd if nick doesn't wanna keep playing the role", which would really and truly be more of an expectation subversion than jon playing any villain. bc again, jon's played 6-7 hatchetfield villains, characters like paul and daniel are the outliers.

Okay I think it's time I explain Carl Emerson Metzger.
He's the youngest Meztger boy at 26, born much past his father's prime. All the boys have different mothers in my canon, and Carl was a Momma's boy. His Momma was a genuinely good woman who was more or less married to Bob for security. Carl doesn't know why she died, but he does remember seeing her hanging from a noose at the edge of their property, from one of the first trees of the Witchwood forest. His father averted the boy's eyes and buried her on the property with a willow tree as a headstone.
Carl's neurodivergent. He's the only kid that is, and he struggled in school because school didn't know how to handle him. He doesn't understand people much, nor does he talk much because he's been taught he doesn't have anything of use to say. He's more for physical labor being the youngest, the spriest. He actually enjoys the physical labor too, and he has quite a green thumb. He not only can tend to the forest on their land, but also his mother's tree and a small hobby orchard in a field near the house. He'd never tell his father or brothers, but he'd really want to expand the orchard and work on selling the ciders and preserves he lovingly makes from his bounty. None of them would ever believe he could do it.
Bob Metzger is emotionally abusive to his youngest son, mostly "because of his stupidity". He hasn't slapped the kid around in years, but he does occasionally threaten it. Carl knows better than to act up and get in his way.
