just for fun, lil dump — valkyrie (svee's "final boss" form, which she uses vs the endsinger) has been a Thing in svee's lore since i first made her in 2018. i thought miqo'te reminded me of the cat laguz from fire emblem, and i wanted to give her a cat form (she was also a thaumaturge because i learned thru those quests that shapeshifting WAS kinda possible. now in current lore thaumaturgy is the reason for her scar and aetheric deficiency+disability)

design process of valkyrie took a. long time. i ditched it for a bit. endwalker gave me some stuff that helped fill some lore holes. also i decided to be extra self indulgent because who cares, i already break canon so much, and i wanted her and shinryu to have a big dragon fight, for fun. svee gets in a dick-measuring contest with zenos and gets jealous of shinryu. (those feelings arent entirely canon. but it IS funny)

these sketches are in order! 2018 to 2019 to a few months ago, to now :) at the start of her redesign process a few months ago i tried to make her look more like the ffxiv dragons (top left of the third picture), but she ended up taking a lot more inspiration from monster hunter because she just isn't.. noodly. shes built like a tank.

i have more lore about valkyrie that i cant drop yet until i drop a certain (very long) comic that's in the works, because valkyrie is linked to some svee lore that is a Huge Spoiler. [yoshi-p voice] Please Look Forward To It.

also i like to think her theme is both endsinger p2 theme (ffxiv spoilers in link) (when svee actually becomes valkyrie) and teostra and lunastra's themes combined (its about the woodwind but also the drums. you understand.)

6. Arapaima

My favorite fish (not for eating). Big ol’ oxbow lake babies who have to come up for air after 5-15 minutes, it’s why they survive in waters with little oxygen. I love them so much.

Imagine—Deep in the rainforest there’s a lake, one of many born of the floodwaters spilling forth from the Amazon River. The water is still, tranquil amongst the chirping, buzzing, rustling of forest life. A black caiman lurks, drifting across the mirrored surface, prowling for any aquatic life unlucky enough to be stranded here when the floodwater receded.

Something breaches. You wait for another glimpse. Your is patience rewarded with the sight of a beast below, a massive thing nearly 3 meters, ten foot. You see giant scales, dragon scales in green and black, glittering gold in the light. There’s a flash of red tail. The creature is gone.

They ARE in FFXIV but the biggest aquarium is not big enough for them and I would just feel sad seeing one floating in place. Same goes for Animal Crossing.

7. Sugar and Coffee

I’m a tea and croissant type of woman but sometimes I’m a little dessert devil fiending for any sweet. Whenever I want to have something like cake, I need to have a cup of coffee to balance it. Usually decaf because I’m not supposed to have much caffeine, but always a dark roast with a little bit of oat milk or heavy cream to take the acidic edge off. It’s bliss

8. Vaccuming

Ok wait, hear me out.

It is a necessity because I’m allergic to cats and I have two whole idiots to my name, but also it’s just satisfying. Usually I’m just mentally making the same sound as vacuum cleaner or making little race car noises when I go around the couch.

9. Crustaceans

It started as a joke. I was playing Civ VI with my siblings and husband, and I started the church of Crab God 🦀. It was all “haha holy war, Catholicism vs. a bunch of crab worshipping idiots” but then it became an inside joke that never died. Now I unironically love the lil guys. My baby baby sister got me a little crab Lego thing for Christmas, my darling got me a crab plush for our anniversary last year. 🤷‍♀️ I just think they’re cute, silly little guys.

10. Eels

I’m just gonna finish this by talking about another aquatic creature I’m fucking obsessed with. I saw ONE documentary about endangered American eels a decade ago and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Freshwater eel, Moray eels, DEFINITELY garden eels. Eels good, man.

Just musing some thoughts out loud so don't @ me over this

But it's kinda funny how different the ffxiv community is here vs in twitter. We got 2 big ancient lore revealing things within two past days and my twttr timeline is honestly on fire. People are digging up ship art from up to 2 years ago or speedrunning making new doodles. You can see whenever someone finishes reading the short story bc they post some meme cat crying and then retweet 30 fanarts in row.

Here I've seen uhhhh 3 reblogs of the "hey new story dropped go read" post and I think a grand total of 4 fanarts/gifsets/shitposts related to it. Main tag has a handful of people complaining about mitron, couple peeps sad about the cousin thing and everything else is just. Posting normal stuff like gposes and general wol art.

My opinion on catgirls is that they can't be uwu perfect waifus or whatever cause then that's just a boring normal anime girl with a different/extra pair of ears. Catgirls need to embody the feline trinity of cute, graceful, and chaotic dumbass. She needs to do blatantly ungraceful things like demonicly contort her face to yawn or bite you when she wants attention or destroy your property. She needs to be a girlboss AND a failwife at the same time. She's not a genuine catgirl unless she inconveniences you at least once a day but you love her too much to stay mad at her for too long.

Plus there's too much untapped potential. Imagine if your cat could speak, was just as big as you, and had thumbs. That's too much potential to reduce to "what if she wore a maid outfit and said 'nyah'?" You gotta commit.

Do you write for multiple fandoms? If yes, what is your favourite fic of yours for each fandom?

Yes! I write for multiple fandoms for enrichment purposes (what I learn in one fandom space can be translated to another and I am literally a hunter-gatherer for tropes and prompts for my friends of one fandom).

Uh, this answer will be long, but favourite fic for every fandom I've written for (as recorded by Ao3, as my Quizilla fics and FF.net fics are no longer accessible):

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Cliché Spy Tactics. Rivals-to-friends-to-mutual-idiotic-crush meet-cute! I still find it actively hilarious.

Red vs. Blue: Storytelling. An unreliable narrator fic told entirely by the world's most eccentric best friends.

Overwatch: Sostener. A start of redemption, built out of the Year 1 Overwatch Lore of Scraps. One of the things that endears me to this story is that I got to play with my SoCal heritage with it.

Warframe: Midnight Mother, Cinnabar Children wins by default, being my only Warframe fic 😂 I do think there's good about it though, simply from the two lines

Dungeons & Dragons: Dangerous Woman wins by default, but also because it spawned me to write a 72-page homebrewed worldbuilding document that's gained a life of its own.

DC Comics: Guardian. My beloved "Drag Black Adam from Lawful Evil to Lawful Good" fic. What stands of it now is largely me pulling together different instances of his backstory together into something remotely coherent. Runner up is A Study in Cyan, largely because it has a cat-based hero who compares the experience of her boyfriend slowly coaxing her down from her various traumas to "getting a cat out of a tree" and that's a metaphor I'll stand by.

Young Justice: It has 3 fics in it, but the Low-Key series overall is my baby. I think it gets extra shoutouts for having 80k words of platonic slow-burn (it takes Captain Cold a LONG time to figure out that Theo is His Kid. Like, not biologically his kid, but oh my gods is She His Kid. Like, emotionally. He has been dadding her for 75k words and he writes it off as being a team leader and a mentor for a baby hero. Understanding he's Being a Dad takes him an embarrassingly long time. His teammates knew before he did, the bastards [derogatory]. Like. Way before him. Right when she first stole his signature cold gun from him, the little shit [affectionate], which is at like. Chapter fucking One of the first fic in this series)

Guild Wars 2: EASY WINNER the four times that pact commander magna and shining blade asset canach gave the rumor mills false ammo and the one time they didn't. It's SO FUNNY. Fake dating during a dragon-slaying saga between two non-humans with different cultural spheres. All because a nosy 6-year-old thought they should have (gasp) friends.

Fallen Hero: Rebirth: Does it say? is still. So fucking good. I took a scene from the game and slipped in personal traits in between, lovingly-crafted flashback sequences pondering the nature of what it means to be human. Fall In Line is a very close second, as it unpacks a LOT of gender trauma for me (in a way that's subtly mirrored by Felicette's Everything. Fall In Line is more blatant about it than Felicette's arc will ever be).

Pokemon: Do Something Crazy! It's a story of healing and growth for everybody involved! And also includes speculative biology, because y'all know I Am Like This.

FFXIV: Ganzhyllsyn's 4 Steps to a Heist, hands down.

Critical Role: I was broken; now We're golden. I saw Essek and went "what if big brother?" and ran with it.

Fairy Tail: the heart is hard to translate / it has a language of its own. My sole attempt at a NaNoWriMo-esque challenge. I still like this weird translation of the manga's events as MMORP events and inter-guild drama.

Miraculous Ladybug: of Sages and Warriors. Duh. You knew this. Close seconds are O' Neighbour Mine and A Tricky Treat.

Na Daoine Maithe: I only have Lighting the Wick thus far, but there'll be more. This visual novel has lit brainworms and they are persistent.

And uh, if you're still here after all that, here are the OTHER TWO questions you asked (I'm sorry, I like a lot of things and thus write a lot of things)

Do you want to write something outside of fanfiction? If so, what about?

So like. I have three original project ideas, two of which are interactive fiction games. The first idea is that I take Dangerous Woman, strip it of all the DND stuff, and make that a novel in its own right (because that'd be extraordinarily easy for me to do, I'd just have to, y'know, finish it. I know how it ends, it's just a matter of landing the execution).

My two interactive fiction game ideas:

You play as an orphan in the setting of Dangerous Woman, ending up as one of King Oberon's adopted kids. You investigate a weird anomaly in Oberon's territory and meet a cast of odd characters (some of whom are romanceable, all of whom are friendable).

You play as someone who just got reincarnated as one of those flat villainess characters in a fantasy novel...that you, the player character, have never personally read. Frantically remembering the info-dumping of your best friend, you try to survive: will you give in to how easy it is to be what people think you are or will you fight it?

Is it easier to write angst or fluff?

Fluff. Any day of the week. I find a lot of what people consider to be angst to be boring melodrama and a lot of what people think of what I think of as angst to be "tame". Like a lot of things with me, both terms have an asterisk and a lot of variables, but fluff has fewer variables, so fluff wins.

Ffxiv was under maintenance so it actually made me progress more in Witcher 3. Really long rambling on character thoughts n impressions

I’ve always thought Geralt was like oddly endearing but I think this game even entertains the idea of him having………. Gap moe if you will. Very randomly he will even be CUTE. I vibe with the humour overall in these games

After all, he’s basically a cat boy which guarantees some silliness.

And perhaps it’s because this time he’s around his girl besties more often, he does come across as even. A bit whiny around them LMAO???? Or even around anyone. Tired of living. But how many times does geralt gotta complain and Triss/Yenn have to be like ‘just shut up and do what u gotta do’ lol

I think so far it’s done a great job of showing us many sides of Geralt. The cute, emotional, Just Some Old Guy elements. I love how soft and relaxed and talkative he gets around Triss and Yenn. I also hate him for this stupid love triangle bc they’re both wonderful women

Ever since I was a teenager tho I loved how beautiful Yenn was so im still loyal to her lol. (But this game made me like Triss a lot more than before gotta say). Revisiting the Yenn vs Triss discourse of ages past, and confronting how Yenn really is… well honestly it’s created a lot of conflict in me. Her brashness DOES make ME uncomfortable.

I also really like the married couple dynamic Geralt/Yenn have. They have a different sort of intimacy and familiarity with each other (sometimes very goofy). I just love that they know everything about each other. And I like that Geralt can be the more patient one compared to her. I know that you can object to her like… attitude that she’s entitled to do whatever she wants, but at the same time - she always has a strong purpose for it even if the way she goes about it is uncomfortable. So I kinda see the disagreements you can make Geralt & Yenn have as just. Marriage spats LOL. Because the next moment they’re all over each other again, and Geralt just complains too much BRO JUST LET HER READ UR MIND LMAO.

Also I’m kind of obsessed with the way Geralt swoons over her despite her extending and retracting her affection 🧍and I can feel Yenn similarly cannot help but be into him. THE HOPELESSNESS (induced by the last wish? Idk I know that’s like choice based too I think) IS DELICIOUS

BUT… they really made a strong case for Triss/Geralt because of how extremely adorable they are. They feel really youthful I guess. I love that they’re like the best friends kind of love. Which makes me kinda lean into them just being best friends. But they’re so cute. It actually really made me feel torn between the girlies.

And generally, I think so far this game is really good at making me actually think a lot about the social consequences of my choices. They really play into the players emotional kneejerk reactions (the amount of times they give you the option to let Geralt get mad at a rando talking shit about his friends/girl best friends. Me as the player yeah ofc I’m annoyed too - but it’s just not useful to blow up at some random rude guy) and I just think it’s really clever.

And I think… generally… they really pumped Feminism and Loving Women into this game. The misogyny was REAL back then LMAO 💀 it definitely reflects the shifting social dynamics and expectations in video games of the time it released. And LGBT people are real (and not a joke) as well which is crazy

well I think the writing around all this holds up alright to this day so far. They somehow made Geralt’s reaction to it all a perfect representation of an old straight cis guy who’s encountering Concepts Outside of Normative Society for the first time but he’s like chill about it. What a funny, funny game it really has it all

How it started vs How it’s going now

I still regret not keeping my 1.0 character... I would have loved to have my legacy tat and other things... but ah well. Creating my ARR character was ‘oh finally, boy miqo’te’s!’ feeling along with ‘I don’t want to get hit on in-game so I’ll make an angry male character’(it had been an issue in past games and I just was not up for dealing with it)... When HW came out I leapt to make my little dragon and have never looked back. I can’t even change her (like the lala of last Halloween) for very long before I miss my lizert too much and scramble back.

Just musing on this today after seeing some other ‘how it started / how it’s going’ posts.

1. Solus Asterus, no relation to any Garlean emperors  I'm still trying to figure out if I can work this into FFXIV lore without it being weird, but it might be impossible

2. Duskwight Elezen, Summoner

3. All... of them?? LOL idk, you tell me

4. 30s-ish. Prob mid 30s by now

5. His true personality is kind of subtle... He's generally calm, positive, and eager to help around strangers, but internally is always trying to sort out his feelings about everything, which sometimes leads to him being less personable than people would expect from the WoL.

He is prone to anxiety but refuses to show it, has strong convictions, and can be extremely stubborn once he's made up his mind, even if he himself admits it isn't the best choice, lol. Very in tune with other people's emotions and is good at responding to them. 

6. clothing... can he dye it black? then yes. LOL

7. His childhood was weird but generally not that eventful. His parents aren't originally from Ul'dah, so he grew up feeling like an outsider and has few friends from back home (which is part of why he left, haha)

8. If he's honest, his goal is to create a world that doesn't need the WoL anymore (he would like to take a Big Nap).

9. He does weaving as a hobby and occasionally sells the results. He loves making stuffed animals, so his house (and the Rising Stones) is full of them

10. Tea isn't a food but it is his favorite LOL. Or any type of vegetarian curry, probably

11. Losing people he loves, being completely alone. Both of which have happened to him, and now he hates it even more! Go figure.

12. Weaving, as mentioned, and writing. He isn't as good with saying words sometimes, but he's excellent at writing them and particularly loves to write letters to people he cares deeply about. His grimoires are full of notes, half-written letters, and letters he's received 

13. DPS/ranged spellcaster. Originally started as Tank/Paladin, but due to various injuries and the chronic pain he has from his body being blasted with light aether, he has difficulty wielding a sword anymore and feels pretty at home with spellcasting. 

14. aside from writing, he's skilled enough as a summoner to effortlessly change small things about his physical appearance (horns, his hair, nails, etc) and knows some, uh, less savory forms of summoning for Reasons, and has practiced them a few times.

16. He has two moms, his bio mom moved to Ul'dah to be with his other mom after his dad died while adventuring. Solus's bio mom has never been 100% happy with him being an adventurer or the WoL and doesn't get it's not really a choice anymore, so... they don't talk much LOL
