37: “Secret passage ways? Really? Are we in a gothic novel?”

“This,” said Missy, ducking under the fifth sticky spiderweb in that many minutes, “Is ridiculous.”

“Hush,” said the Doctor. “You’re going to wake the ghosts.”

Missy glanced around, her eyes widening. “Ghosts?” The Doctor laughed. “You’re kidding. You’re kidding, right?”

“Maybe. Look up.”

“Hmm?” Missy collided with a low-hanging wooden beam and cursed, loudly, her voice echoing throughout the tunnel.

“I did say look up.” The beam of the Doctor’s torch swung across the wall and landed in Missy’s eyes.

“Move that. Agh.” The Doctor moved it, after a few seconds, although Missy was pretty sure there were going to be spots in her vision for the rest of her life. “Remind me why we’re acting out a gothic novel, again?”

“Surprise.”

Missy shook her head. “My heels aren’t holding up well.”

“Should have worn different shoes, then, huh?”

Missy glared at her and considered stabbing her in the back. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time. “Should have told me we’d be climbing around in some awful basement.”

“Not a basement,” said the Doctor. “Underground tunnels.”

“Of course.” Missy rolled her eyes.

“Pick up the pace. We’ll be late.”

“Late? Is there a party upstairs?”

The Doctor smirked at her. “This light is very flattering on you, you know,” she said.

Missy patted her hair. “Oh, does —“ She caught sight of the Doctor’s eyes. “Hey.”

“Oh, you’re smeared in grime,” said the Doctor.

Missy pouted. “Thanks.”

“Hey, don’t… come here. Come here.” Missy stepped over to her, and she kissed her on the nose. “You’re beautiful.”

“Hmm.”

“You are,” she said. “Just a little farther.”

Missy took her hand, and they forayed through the tunnels for a silent few minutes more, until light peeked through a door ahead. “After you, darling lady.”

Missy walked through the door.

The room ahead was small and intimate, with a small table, a chair, and a vase of orange lilies. “It’s your birthday,” said the Doctor. “If you forgot.”

“Oh,” said Missy, softly. “But I’m…” She brushed a hand down her dirty skirt.

The Doctor pointed a finger at a door in the wall. “Bedroom. I took the liberty of putting some of your beloved purple dresses in there, if you’d like to change. And some other things.”

“There’s a… bed in there, right?” Missy grinned.

“Slow down! I made dinner.”

“Wonderful.”

“Happy birthday, Missy,” said the Doctor, pulling her close and pressing her mouth to the tip of Missy’s nose. “Now go change. You smell like dust and there’s a cobweb in your hair.”

Missy shrieked. “Really?”

“No.”

“Dammit.”

22. Do you enjoy making OCs for your fanfics, or prefer sticking to canon characters?

Depends entirely on the situation! If the character is central to the plot/has a big presence in the story, I'll always use a canon character (even if it's just a throwaway/background one from an audio thirty years ago lol), but if it's just a background character/outsider pov sort of thing, then I'm OC all the way.
