D H Y A N A • Meditation This, the seventh limb requires us to have brought into play all the previous limbs. (See previous posts!) When we have learnt how to treat our bodies and minds with kindness. When we feel fit, well, healthy and balanced. When we accept the world and other beings with respect and acceptance of how they exist, without judgement, expectation or indeed an intent to try and change them or it for our personal gain. When we let go of our ego voice #chittavrittinirodha that tell may tell us how we should be and our heavy judgement of how others should be. When we let go of how we would prefer life, environment, our friends or partners or colleagues to be. When we realise it’s not all about how we look in asana! When we have let go of reviewing our past and planning our future. When we have accomplished Santosha. When we realise, we are not our thoughts, We then may find our flow state. We we let go. We can find calm. Even in the most stormy of places. Mindful movement with breath can take us there. Practicing one pointed concentration. Allowing thoughts to rise and then pass like clouds, with non attachment. Our thoughts slow. We can physiologically move into our rest state. We can lower our stress levels. We can move towards our bliss state. It can take years to learn how to quiet the mind and to learn that our thoughts are not reality! But like all things yoga, it’s not achieving the ideal meditative state that’s important. It’s the journey. Some days we may have it. Others we may not. Ebb and flow.
