PEOPLE I'D LIKE TO GET TO KNOW BETTER !
Alias / name: Parker
Birthday: 22 October
Zodiac sign: I don't care much for these, because astrology is shite, but libra.
Height: 1.66cm
Hobbies: Reading, writing, drawing, gaming, acting, playing the guitar and the uke, and walking with my doggo. :3
Favourite colour: Dark blue colours are kinda neat.
Favourite book: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, but I also love my Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman. And Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe. And I always forget to mention Andy's a Stitch in Time. The Hobbit by Tolkien is one of my faves too. *Cough* Shakespeare's The Tempest, Merchant of Venice, and Macbeth *cough*. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is fun too.
Last film / show: Star Trek: The Next Generation ("All Good Things" lol).
Inspiration: I derive inspiration from watching TNG. Music usually helps to get me in a writing mood too (idk if this section is about writing-related inspiration, but it is now lol). Reading books also enthuses me to write my own stories.
Story behind url: 'My timing is digital' is a quote from the episode "Outrageous Okona", in which Data is experimenting with humour and jokes etc. I just thought Data replying 'my timing is digital' to Guinan's 'it could have been your timing' was super witty and hilarious (well done, whoever wrote that line), and I somehow always remembered it?
Fun fact about me: I have a poster of Rembrandt's The Night Watch hanging on my bedroom wall, above my television. It is one of my favourite works of art made by a Dutch painter. I've seen it twice at the Rijksmuseum and it's so unbelievably astonishing. :3 My replica can't do it justice, but I like it regardless.

Mrs.O, what are your hopes for the new characters in ikevamp? Any character types or styles you want to see?
Tumblr media
No guesses per se...a lot of this is going to depend on whether they're Comte's doing or Vlad's I suppose. Or some other third party. The answer to that will determine whether they fall more on the heroic or villainous side of history. (Or well, as subjective as those terms can be given who's writing the history)
As much as I like the Good Guys I also personally find it interesting to have those on the murkier side of things represented too, so I kind of hope these new characters might be 'villains'.
In no particular order, here are some people I'd love to see or could see them picking (bearing in mind Ikevamp trends towards the Western/Eurocentric side of history):
Genghis Khan
Julius Caesar
Alexander the Great
Charles Darwin
King John (AKA Prince John from Robin Hood)
Charlemagne
Rembrandt
Johann Sebastian Bach
Edgar Allan Poe
Dante Alighieri
Christopher Columbus (as a villain of course)
George Washington
Nikola Tesla
Thomas Edison
Joseph Lister
Louis Pasteur
Maximilien Robespierre
My #1 though? And we have precedent he's still around? Antonio Salieri. We know he survived Mozart's route and he seemed quite likely to perhaps reform and make for an interesting route to tie into a sequel for Mozart.

WHEN it opened in 1910, the 12-story Alwyn Court, at 58th Street and Seventh Avenue, attracted attention with its fabulously intricate facade.
Now the dark streaks of damaged terra cotta panels spot the landmark building, as the co-op that owns it evaluates repairs.
By 1900 Seventh Avenue around Carnegie Hall had New York's most important collection of apartment houses: the block-long Van Corlear, from 55th to 56th Street: the Rembrandt (New York's first co-op) at 152 West 57th; the massive Osborne at 201 West 57th and the eight-building Navarro Flats, stretching east from Seventh at Central Park South.
The apartment market had been invigorated by the new popularity of the co-op, a concept revived beginning in 1902 in a series of buildings on West 67th Street. Their sponsors were several artists, including Walter Russell. In early 1907 Russell had the architects Harde & Short begin work on the cathedral-front studio building at 44 West 77th Street. That summer Russell, working with the developer Alwyn Ball Jr., bought a Seventh Avenue plot at the southeast corner of 58th Street; in September the Real Estate Record & Guide said Russell would build a ''studio palace'' co-op, designed by the same architects.
For some reason Russell dropped out, and Ball reworked the project into one of the most lavish apartment buildings up to that time. The Alwyn Court had two apartments per floor, each with 14 rooms and 5 baths, renting for up to $10,000 a year; one 32-room duplex was offered at $22,000 per year. Harde & Short created a plan with a square, 12-story central light court and groups of entertaining spaces -- music room, living room, library, dining room, gallery and conservatory, which could be thrown together to create 2,000 square feet. In the typical apartment, the largest room was 18 by 30 feet.
Using the new medium of glazed terra cotta, Harde & Short developed the most intricate apartment facade in New York, executed by the Atlantic Terra Cotta Company. The delicate, Gothic details at the entrance and the expanse of French Renaissance styling, all in light gray, rebuked the Victorian brick and brownstone of Seventh Avenue's earlier buildings.
The magazine Architecture praised the ''consummate skill'' of the terra-cotta work and the ''considerable charm'' of the entrance. But it added that while the design of the facade ''if made by a pastry cook, would be of the highest excellence . . . it can hardly be considered at all in the light of architecture.'' The overall result it said, ''defies description.''
In late 1909, the Alwyn Court opened to tenants. Most of them moved from private houses, like Jacob Wertheim, president of United Cigar Stores, who left a 50-foot-wide house at 5 West 76th Street to occupy the duplex. Another was Frederick Steinway; in 1925, as president of his family's piano company, Steinway moved the firm from East 14th Street to its new headquarters at 119 West 57th Street. In 1910 The New York Times noted that these new apartment houses could be just as palatial as private houses, but needed half as many servants. Repairs by the building staff were quick and it was easy to close up the apartment for travel; many tenants spent only a few months in the city.
Only five apartments had been taken by the night of March 4, 1910, when Patrick Quinn, a doorman, saw the reflection of flames in the windows of the Navarro Flats across 58th. He raced to alert the occupants, and Edward King and Robert Casson ran the elevator through the smoke until the motor shorted out.
No one was seriously hurt, although three housemaids, thinking the entire building was in flames, almost jumped from the roof to Seventh Avenue.
''Great Blaze Lights the City,'' said The New York Tribune on page 1, and 10,000 people watched; The Times described the Alwyn Court as ''a huge torch.'' The fire had started in an unoccupied apartment on the ninth floor, and broken through the windows; tongues of fire leapfrogged the blaze to the top.
Despite its luxury, the Alwyn Court was short on fire protection: with no fire escapes and without fire doors, its single narrow stairway served as a perfect chimney flue. There was no central standpipe so firefighters had to thread hose up floor by floor.
The damage was repaired and census records for the 1910's and 1920's indicate the Alwyn Court was fully occupied. But by the 1930's Seventh Avenue was no longer a desirable address and there were only six residential telephone listings in the building in 1936. By 1937 the building was empty.
The Dry Dock Savings Institution foreclosed and gutted the building in 1938, creating 75 apartments where there had been two dozen. Their architect, Louis S. Weeks, removed the heavy cornice and balustrade, and reworked the apartments to retain most of the large rooms.
The original corner entrance was closed, replaced with the present one on Seventh Avenue, and the new Alwyn Court was soon 100 percent rented, producing a gross income of $137,000 a year.
According to research by the architectural historian Andrew Alpern, one of the last tenants, John MacEnulty, salvaged four decorative stone lions for his house in Sands Point, L.I. The paneling from the Wertheim apartment -- described as taken from a French chateau -- was moved to the Squadron A Armory on 94th and Madison Avenue.
IN 1980, with a co-op conversion underway, the architects Beyer Blinder Belle supervised a $500,000 facade restoration, cleaning the terra cotta and replacing damaged blocks with cast concrete replicas. The artist Richard Haas painted a full-height trompe l'oeil mural in the central courtyard; with a new skylight, it became an atrium. The corner entrance was reopened as an entrance for a commercial tenant.
Now, 17 years later, the facade needs more work. Because large chunks of masonry are missing from the fifth-floor balcony, a sidewalk bridge has been erected on Seventh Avenue to protect pedestrians. Although the flat panels on the facade appear intact, about one-third of the window and balcony soffits are visibly damaged.
Gerard Meehan, the property manager for NRK Management, which oversees the building, says that last year a piece of terra cotta fell to the sidewalk. Now engineers are being interviewed, and any work will flow from a consultant's recommendations. Mr. Meehan says he doesn't think this project will be a major one.

i've noticed that clare uses a lot of angel metaphors/similes in her writing but often times they are overused and don't make sense. i was reading chain of gold recently and found that matthew's face was described as looking like a "dissipated angel's." i don't know what this means and it does nothing to describe his appearance or even his facial expression. i also remember reading about a character who was described as looking like a michelangelo statue or something? the metaphor to the statue was very sudden and very out of place, just "he looked like [name of statue]" in the middle of the paragraph and i think the author was trying to be flowery and descriptive but it just made it seem overwritten and random, and comparing a character to a statue doesn't tell me anything about their appearance anyway. jace and sebastian were described numerous times as "bad angel boy" or "golden angel boy" in TMI, which got very repetitive very fast. clare often uses these comparisons on the characters she favours but doesn't do so for the characters she pushes to the sidelines - in chain of gold there were very many angel comparisons for james and matthew but none for christopher or thomas, which made it obvious which characters she preferred, as the former two were often in the center of the story whereas we didn't spend as much time with the latter two
So. Many. Also constant reminders of the angelic heritage of the Nephilim and angelic magic and the Angel and the angels and the angel blood. Rinse and repeat. There’s a lot of smiling like angels, looking like avenging angels (Jace and Julian especially), angel boys (yuck), and oddly specifically at least two references to Caravaggio’s paintings in the series. So I just had to:
CITY OF BONES
In the faint light she looked half-transparent, bleached of color, wrapped in white like an angel.
Isabelle
He looked like a fair-haired angel from a Rembrandt painting, except for that devilish mouth.
Jace
Her sketchpad, open to the drawing she’d been doing, the one of Jace with angel wings.
Counting this in because Jace = Angel
CITY OF ASHES
Jace had stood stiff and awkward by the bed, his face like a painted angel’s, with blank indifferent eyes.
This adds nothing to Jace's demeanor.
He really did look like an avenging angel getting ready to dispatch divine justice from on high, as the Shadowhunters were meant to do.
Jace. Avenging Angels score 1 point.
You may look like an angel, Jonathan Morgenstern, but I know exactly what you are.
Jace.
Standing between two of the burning candelabras, their light casting a pale gold overlay onto his hair and skin, he looked like a painting of an angel.
Jace.
CITY OF GLASS
Angels were walking on the glass—angels with white wings that hung bloodied and broken from their backs, and each of them had Jace’s face. And then there were other angels, with wings of black shadow, and they touched their hands to the fire and laughed...
Clary being high on Lake Lyn and imagining Angels = Jace
Isabelle’s whip came alive in her hand like the flaming sword of an avenging angel; she launched herself forward, her whip slashing down across the demon’s back.
Isabelle's whip scores another point for Avenging Angels (2).
Sebastian had come to a stop now, just in front of Jace, and was smiling like an angel.
Smiling like an angel/Angelic smile (1)
Clary couldn’t blame him—it was hard to look at Sebastian, at his angelic smile, and imagine he could say these things.
Smiling like an angel/Angelic smile (2)
Jace, Clary thought, on the other hand, all in white, looked like an angel. Albeit one of the avenging kind.”
Avenging Angels (3)
He looked barely fourteen as he climbed the stairs, his thin face calm and angelic, like a choirboy mounting the steps to the chancel.
Raphael.
“What did you get for your ninth birthday, little angel boy? A cookie?”
Angel Boy 1 (and cringe)
His hair was a white halo; he looked like the sort of bad angel who might have followed Lucifer out of heaven.
Sebastian.
“Little angel boy,” he said. “You’re a fool, aren’t you—just like my father always said.”
Angel boy 2 (and double cringe)
“You’re the angel boy. I had to hear all about you. You with your pretty angel face and your pretty manners and your delicate, delicate feelings."
Sebastian to Jace. Angel Boy (3)
Jace’s face was calm, the face of an angel dispatching divine justice.
CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS
She’d seen Jace do it, and he looked like a falling angel while he did, flying through the air, whirling and spinning with beautiful, balletic grace.
Jace = Angel
“Max smiled like an angel as Jace turned the knife toward himself, blade inward.”
Jace’s nightmare: Smiling like an angel/Angelic smile (3)
CITY OF LOST SOULS
“Oh, yes, I was going to ask.” He smiled like an angel. “Is everyone looking for me?”
Jace: Smiling like an angel/Angelic smile (4)
He still had the face of a little boy angel, though his gaze as he regarded Simon was cold.
Raphael. I’’m counting this as Angel Boy (4).
Shaking her hair out of her face, she carefully drew the Fortis rune at the juncture of shoulder blade and back, just where, if he were an angel, he would have wings.
Clary draws a rune on Jace who = Angel
”Come along, angel girl.” He held out his hand.
Sebastian to Clary. Yuck. And you thought this was going to be limited to angel boys? Oh nay nay.
“As for the angel boy, he will be the last of his kind to die.”
Some demons talking about Jace: Angel Boy (5)
He let his arms fall to either side of him, outstretched like wings, a broken angel, fallen out of the sky.
Sebastian = Fallen angel (because he is part demon ;D)
She thrust her arm forward to take it, and in that moment she was no longer Clary, his friend since childhood, but a Shadowhunter, an avenging angel who belonged with that sword in her hand.
Simon about Clary: Avenging Angels (4)
CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE
“You are making a mistake,” he said, “talking to me like this, angel boy.”
Sebastian to Jace: Angel Boy (6)
“I can feel the fire of Heaven in your veins, angel boy, burning under the skin,” he said.
Again Sebastian to Jace: Angel boy (7). You really need to let this word combination go.
“Jace, no,” Alec said, but his voice was drowned by the clamor that ran through the room, voices rising like smoke and curling up toward the ceiling, and Jace stood calmly, with his hands out, showing he had no weapons, his hair shining under the light of the runes. A sacrificial angel.
Jace = Angel
“You cannot win,” Matthias said finally, and Jace laughed, that sharp acerbic laugh Clary had first fallen in love with. Not a sacrificial angel, she thought, but an avenging one, all gold and blood and fire, confident even in the face of defeat.
Wait, scratch that. Avenging Angels (5). Also, who the hell was Matthias?
“The vampire had killed all his friends. I don’t know why he Turned Raphael instead. He saw something in him. Will, strength, beauty. I don’t know. He was a child when I found him, a Caravaggio angel painted in blood.”
Magnus to Luke.
The stars were coruscating, reflecting the fire back, red and gold and blue and orange. It was as beautiful and terrible as an angel.
The sight Jocelyn sees.
Never had Jace looked so much like an avenging angel, hurtling through cloud and fire.
I assure you, Jace has looked like an avenging angel at least three times by now. Avenging Angels (6).
“We have to show them,” he said, and his face was as immovable as an angel pronouncing a sentencing. “That we are unified. Prove yourself, Clarissa.”
Sebastian asking Clary to kiss him. What the fuck.
“Indeed it is,” said Asmodeus. “For none of you caught a Prince of Hell in his place of power; not even you, Jace Herondale, child of angels, or you, Clarissa Fairchild, with your tricks and runes.”
Aren’t they all?
“He smiled at Jocelyn like an angel, and then went over to the piano.”
Jace. Smiling like an angel/Angelic smile (4)
CLOCKWORK ANGEL
“Look at him. The face of a bad angel and eyes like the night sky in Hell. He’s very pretty, and vampires like that. I can’t say I mind either.” Magnus grinned.
About Will.
CLOCKWORK PRINCE
He had the ethereal look of angels in paintings, and though she knew that the silvery color of his hair and skin was a result of the medicine he took for his illness, she couldn’t help finding it lovely too.
Sophie about Jem.
His eyes were bluer than blue, his cheeks flushed, his features angelic.”
Bluer than blue. Roger that. (Will)
CLOCKWORK PRINCESS
“Have you been reading her letters?” Sophie looked furious, like some sort of avenging angel, lamp in hand.
This is hands down the best one. Avenging Angels (7)
LADY MIDNIGHT
Only he looked at Mark sometimes, when the others called him Nephilim and Shadow-spawn and angel-boy and other names much worse.
What could be worse than having to read “angel boy” (8) over and over again. This time with a hyphen.
After her came Emma. He registered her dress, but barely—that it was pale ivory, that it floated around her like angel wings.
Emma is like an angel
LORD OF SHADOWS
Evelyn looked irritably from Julian to Tavvy, who smiled angelically at her, showing off his dimples.
Smiling like an angel/Angelic smile (5)
Julian didn’t move. He stared icily down at the faerie. He looked like a statue of an avenging angel, something blank and pitiless.
Avenging Angels (8)
QUEEN OF AIR AND DARKNESS
Julian had always been rebellious at heart, but rarely openly. He smiled like an angel and said, “Why don’t you just tell us what you want?”
Smiling like an angel/Angelic smile (6)
His eyes were closed, perfect half circles fringed with silvery lashes. He looked innocent, angelic.”
Ash.
Emma had always thought that Raphael, who had made his famous sacrifice to save Magnus Bane’s life, had an angelic face.
Simon and Magnus would agree.
She felt almost dizzy with it, as if she were rising above Zara to an immense height—looking down at her with the indifference of an avenging angel, a being of light gifted with power so great it had rendered them nearly inhuman.”
Emma adding for Avenging Angels (9)
Then Horace and Zara had come into the frame, striding across the grass, and because of the size of the Projection and the angle, they had looked like angels striding across the sky.
This is a bit different, because it is supposed to sort of “ridicule” their self-importance, not that they are awe-inspiring.
Emma whirled; Julian was behind her, the gleaming Mortal Sword in his hand. There was blood on him, and a bruise on his cheek, but with Maellartach in his hand he looked like an avenging angel.
Avenging Angels (10)
Expressionless as a statue of an avenging angel, Emma reached down and swept Jace out of the way.”
True Nephilim Emma: Avenging Angels (11)
They lay with their hands clasped together, their eyes closed, like angels who had fallen from heaven and now slept peacefully upon the earth again.
Emma and Julian after returning back to human form.
And when they caught alight at last, neither able to wait a moment longer, they were one person. They were incandescent as angels.
Emma and Julian having sex.
The Jace she knew had been beautiful as angels were beautiful: this Jace was older, haggard.”
About Janus. Jace = Angel
THE RED SCROLLS OF MAGIC
Magnus looked at the severe lines of his face and thought of the relentlessness of angels.
Alec.
THE LOST BOOK OF THE WHITE
Nothing besides that Alec is an “angelic warrior” that is afraid of spiders. Are surprised though?
GHOSTS OF THE SHADOW MARKET
Jonathan Wayland, the child who fought like a warrior angel, looked intrigued.
Jace.
Sebastian and Janus both leaned forward, Janus sick with a pain he did not understand and Sebastian smiling like a guardian angel.
Smiling like an angel/Angelic smile (7)
CHAIN OF GOLD
Now he was a well-built young man, his hair darkened to bronze, with a face like a dissipated angel.
Matthew. Dissipated i.e. overindulgent in sensual pleasures? Angels like that? What? And you’re right, this tells us nothing how his face looks.
CHAIN OF IRON
He looked like an angel painted by Caravaggio and sugar-dusted with snow.
Matthew. I kind of hate how I have to go and google Caravaggio’s paintings of angels because Clare rather does not describe Matthew with her own words.
He tipped his head back to smile at Risa like a Botticelli angel.
Matthew.
He was so beautiful, so awfully, terribly beautiful, like a marble carving of an angel—but no carving had such dark, tumbling hair, such secretive eyes.
Jesse who I constantly forget.
Such variety, truly.

I Dipinti “Sopravvissuti” Della Gemäldegalerie A Berlino

(a 'colorful' peacock with 'white' feathers)
For a definition of the term "camp" in this context, see Susan Sontag's "A Talk on Camp", which looks like this To paraphrase Wikipedia's introduction,
Synopsis
Christopher Isherwood is mentioned in Sontag's essay: "Except for a lazy two-page sketch in Christopher Isherwood's novel The World in the Evening (1954), [camp] has hardly been published."[6] In Isherwood's novel, two characters are discussing the meaning of camp, both upper and lower class. The main character, Stephen Monk, says:
Did you think it meant a little boy with hydrogen peroxide-dyed hair, a picture hat and a feather boa, pretending to be Marlene Dietrich? Yeah, in queer circles they call that camping. ... You can call it low camp... High camp is the whole emotional basis of ballet and baroque art, for example ... High camp always has an underlying seriousness. You can't camp about something you don't take seriously, you're not making fun of it, you're enjoying it, you're expressing something that's basically serious in terms of fun and finesse and elegance... Baroque art is basically camp about religion. Ballet is camp about love...[7].
Examples are then given: Mozart, El Greco, and Dostoevsky are in camp, but Beethoven, Flaubert, and Rembrandt are not.
There's also a great article about kitsch and camp, which I won't link to because it's too long, but it goes something like, "The theme of the 2019 Met Gala show was 'Camp: a podium for fashion.'" As if that one sentence wasn't illustrative enough (Google it and you'll get a bunch of photos of celebrities dressed in "campy" looks at the time).
1 Ryo Asuka is the originator of the white-haired (bleached hair) antagonist male character.

My portraiture photography inspired by Rembrandt
My photographs I would like to create in studio, were inspired by these 2 paintings.
Saskia with flower
Tumblr media
Saskia with a Flower is a 1641 oil on canvas portrait by Rembrandt of his wife Saskia van Uylenburgh, now in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden. It is also known as Saskia with a Red Flower, Saskia with a Carnation or Saskia as Flora.
Tumblr media
Hendrickje Stoffels (1626 – 21 July 1663) was the long time partner of Rembrandt. The couple were unable to marry because of the financial settlement linked to the will of Rembrandt's deceased wife Saskia, but they remained together until Hendrickje's death. In 1654 she gave birth to Rembrandt's daughter Cornelia. In the later years of their relationship Hendrickje managed Rembrandt's business affairs together with the painter's son Titus.
Hendrickje is widely believed to have modelled for several of Rembrandt's works and to be depicted in some Tronie portraits. However, her role as Rembrandt's model is disputed by some critics.
Relationship with Rembrandt
Hendrickje obtained work as Rembrandt's housekeeper, and seems to have lived with him from approximately 1647, at first as a maid, but fast becoming much more. This led to an acrimonious fallout with Rembrandt's previous live-in lover Geertje Dircx, who sued Rembrandt for breach of promise in 1649, and demanded maintenance payments from him. Hendrickje testified in the case, confirming that a financial agreement had been reached with Geertje. In the same year Hendrickje returned to Bredevoort for the summer (possibly with Rembrandt accompanying her), and is there mentioned as a witness to a christening in the Bredevoorts church records. The Eighty Years' War was past, and peace was finally reaching even the eastern Netherlands.
In 1654, when she was pregnant with Rembrandt's daughter, Hendrickje had to appear before the Council of the Reformed Church for "living in sin" with Rembrandt, who was a widower and 20 years her senior. She admitted to "unwedded cohabitation" with Rembrandt and was banned from receiving communion. On 30 October 1654, the couple's daughter Cornelia van Rijn was baptized in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. Rembrandt and Hendrickje lived together as common law husband and wife until her death in 1663.
Initially, Rembrandt's unwillingness to marry Hendrickje had a pecuniary motive: by marrying her he would have forfeited the inheritance of his first wife Saskia van Uylenburgh. Even with this inheritance he had major financial problems, but without it he would have been bankrupt. But then in 1655, Titus – the son he had with Saskia – turned 14, and thereby eligible by law to make his will. Rembrandt immediately made sure that Titus installed him as his only heir and by that he outwitted Saskia. Still, he did not marry Hendrickje.
As Rembrandt's dealer
By 1656 Rembrandt was forced to declare bankruptcy. In 1658 he lost his house, and he, Hendrickje, Cornelia and Titus moved into rented property in the Jordaan. In the same year, Hendrickje, who got along well with Titus, opened an art shop with Titus’ help where she sold Rembrandt’s paintings. In order to protect him from his money lenders Hendrickje and Titus became his employers.[9] In this way his former maid Hendrickje Stoffels had become his boss – at least officially. Her biographer Christoph Driessen believes that Rembrandt’s noticeable productivity in the early 1660s was caused by the obvious support Hendrickje was rendering him. She was organizing his life for him and prevented his complete downfall after his bankruptcy.
In May 1663, the plague arrived in Amsterdam and killed thousands, especially at the end of the year. It is not clear Hendrickje was a victim of the epidemic as she was the only one who was buried in the Westerkerk in Amsterdam on 24 July 1663.
In Rembrandt's art
Hendrickje may have been a model for
Bathsheba at Her Bath (1654).
Though there are no paintings that are explicitly identified as depictions of Hendrickje, there are a number of portraits, nudes and other images which appear to depict the same woman, who is often assumed to be Hendrickje. A portrait in the National Gallery, London is identified as her "based on the knowledge of the sitter's relationship with the artist, and the informality and affection with which she is represented. She is seated wearing a fur wrap and jewellery. There are a number of other portrait-like images that appear to depict the same woman. However, Rembrandt scholar Eric Sluijter is sceptical of attempts to identify Hendrickje in Rembrandt's work, writing that,
If one compares the large number of etchings, drawings and paintings with the purpose of recognizing Hendrickje it appears more often than not that there is little mutual resemblance between all the candidates. It is surprising how, still, in recent art historical literature numerous works are identified as Hendrickje Stoffels as a matter of course.
Sluijter suggests that the broad similarity between the faces of women in Rembrandt's paintings suggest that he tended to portray an "ideal type".
Hendrickje is also traditionally identified as the model for a number of nudes, especially the painting Bathsheba at Her Bath. She would have been 28 at the time of the painting. Sluijter has proposed otherwise, stating that Rembrandt would be very unlikely to portray his partner's own recognisable face on nudes to be sold publicly.
