The Best Ideas
DWC Minimode July 2023, Time/Fireworks, CW: none, @daily-writing-challenge
Edmund set down the last device he'd been asked to carry, and wiped the sweat from his brow. "I'm just saying, this doesn't look particularly wise." he commented, looking at the project Lorellai was assembling.
"No no no, it's fine, trust meh, I've done th' math, this is goin' to be great, and it'll boost everyone's spirits!" Lorellai declared, pulling down her tinted goggles and carefully applying her micro-adjuster. "And we've got a certified fireworks operator on site who agrees!"
Cay waved, and then went back to busying themselves with the smaller attachments.
Edmund huffed. "I just get nervous when you've got a single rocket of this size," he said, motioning towards the monstrous amalgamation of fireworks in a single assemblage, "and then up on that ridge, there's them bronze dragons poppin' out of portals to watch. They know somethin's going to happen, lass, and they're a ways beyond yer calculated safe distance." Edmund narrowed his eyes and peered on the ridge, where more and more bronze dragon portals were popping up. Two dozen dragon visages were up there now, wearing dark glasses. He was pretty sure he saw Chromie and Soridormi both look right back at him, and give him a thumbs up, their expressions hidden behind the shades. Edmund sighed.
"That's just pre-explosion anxiety, meh dad said it's pretty common among th' uninitiated, dunnae worry! Come on, let's get over to th' launch bunker."
"It's two boulders you ran the cable out to, and Stroganoff who got comfy next to them." Edmund said dryly.
"And it'll be fine!" Lorellai smiled, fairly skipping along, followed by Edmund and Caythaes to crouch behind the boulders and the unbothered hornswog. Lorellai grabbed the megaphone, and her voice blared out. "READY TO LAUNCH! CLEAR THE LAUNCH ZONE! CLEAR THE LAUNCH ZONE!" Edmund snapped the goggles she handed him over his head, adjusting them as best he could to fit in the limited time. The grin on her face as she lifted the plunger in the launcher did not fill him with confidence.
"FIVE! FOUR! THREE! TWO! ONE! IGNITION!" she shouted, as she pushed the plunger down, and everything became light, noise, and fire.
Several moments later, the ringing in Edmund's ears died down, and he gingerly pushed the goggles up from his eyes. The landscape was scorched around them, save the space behind the boulders which had protected them from the back-blast. Lorellai and Caythaes were both flat on their backs, giggling, and Stroganoff turned to look at them, revealing that the side of him that had faced the blast was covered in soot. Good thing he's lava proof, Edmund thought, as a pair of bronze portals opened, granting passage to Chromie and Soridormi.
"Wow, what a show! First it went FWOOSH and then it went BOOM and then it was all Crackle crackle crackle and then the big BOOOOOM!" Chromie declared, her grin matching Lorellai and Cay's.
"Indeed, it was an impressive display, and a successful mission. The timeline is safe once again." Soridormi declared, unable to keep a smile from her normally stoic face.
"Wait, what's this about the timeline?"
Chromie patted him on the knee. "Believe me, the timeline where you never know what you three averted is a happier one for you than the ones where you find out. Thanks for the show everyone!"
Lorellai and Cay both gave a thumbs up as the bronzes left, leaving Edmund blinking in confusion. This was definitely a day that was going to end in whiskey.

The Prime of His Youth: Book II: Quest for Fire: Ch40: Import
Smokescreen and Roxana drove up to them. They transformed, with Smokescreen carrying an Energon cube. Jack, being carried by Arcee, looked over at Roxana, "They need medical treatment, BUT." he said, and momentarily paused, turning to look at Smokescreen, "This is extremely dangerous. Homeless. If it was on Earth, I would say likely drug or mental health issues. Don't know what you have here." He then looked back to Roxana, "Be very careful. If he tries to hurt you, allow us to help." Jack stated.
Roxana momentarily steeled herself before nodding vigorously.
* * *
Jack looked at the first Cybertronian, and then looked back at Arcee.
"I'll watch her." she stated, "You keep your eyes peeled."
Jack looked in, and then at Windblade, who was looking forward, then Smokescreen who was looking both back and forward with this blaster ready. Jack turned to the rear.
Roxana slowly stepped in, "Hello?" she asked, and got no reply. "HELLO!" she shouted. Again, no reply. She then looked at Arcee, "I'll have to try pain response." she said. Arcee nodded and moved in. Roxana moved in, grabbed his hand, and pressed hard on his fingertips. He seemed to recognize the pain, trying to move away from it. "This is pretty bad." she stated, "I'd say we need to bring him to the hospital, if I didn't expect we had many more down here."
"I'll contact Chromia." Jack said, and activated his com. unit.
"Who is this?" Chromia asked over the com. link, "The Human? Report?"
"Two of three down. I'll talk about that later, but we're in the small tunnel."
"None of my medics will go down there." Chromia quickly stated.
"They need hospitalization." Jack stated.
"If I brought them to the hospital, how will I guarantee the safety of my doctors and medics?" Jack couldn't say anything in reply. "And while I can give you Energon and medical supplies, I can't give you infusion equipment, or anything bigger."
"Then what do you expect us to do down here?" Jack asked.
"Your best." Chromia replied, and cut off the coms.
Jack turned to Roxana. She smiled at him before frowning and turned back to her patient.
* * *
The patient opened his eyes, and looked, disbelieving what was happening. "Who are you?" he asked.
"My master asked me to treat you." Roxana stated, "As best I can with the resources I have. Which I will admit is not much."
"There are plenty of others down here, isn't there?" Arcee asked.
He groaned and nodded.
Jack turned to Smokescreen. "Let's head to the next." he said. Smokescreen transformed.
* * *
A dozen patients. 2 trips for Smokescreen to get more Energon and medical supplies. Jack returning to the house for a period of sleep.
* * *
Arcee put Jack down on a console in Chromia's office.
"Report." she said to him.
"For the mine, I'm sorry." Jack said to her.
"What did you do?" she asked.
"We beat them up." Arcee stated.
"And then treated them." Windblade added.
"Thank you." Chromia said.
"For being honest?" Jack asked.
"For teaching them a lesson." Chromia stated. "They'll be easier for me to deal with next time. How about the others?"
"The millwrights are repairing the foundry." Windblade said with hint of pride.
"Excellent." Chromia said, "And The Pit?"
"The Pit?" Jack asked.
"The pit to die in." Chromia stated. "Quite infamous around here. Medics and warriors refuse to go down there."
"Roxana treated them as well as she can." Jack stated.
"How many?" Chromia asked, with both fervour and curiosity.
"A dozen." Jack said, and Chromia looked distant.
"How many?" Windblade asked.
"9 sparks." Chromia said.
"What happened to them?" Arcee asked.
"They... were lost..." Chromia nearly spat, and turned around, looking away. Arcee looked surprised for a moment, and then distant. She barely noticed when Jack grabbed her hand. She slowly returned to reality. She slowly started to smile as Jack held her hand. She looked over to see Chromia looking at them with awe. She quickly turned away gain. "Thank you..." Chromia voiced. "New Kalis might actually survive."
"I think he deserves a kiss." Arcee said, giving Jack a cheshire grin. Chromia gave her a curious look. "Like this." Arcee said. She leaned down and kissed him on the cheek, Jack doing the same for her. She then stood back up. She looked Chromia in the eyes, whom silently agreed to do it. Jack turned around to Chromia whom was walking up. Arcee turned to look away as her smile broke out, trying her best not to laugh. Chromia bent down, and kissed him on the cheek, he kissing hers in return. Chromia stood up and stepped backed.
"It's a Human custom of gratitude." Windblade stated.
* * *
Arcee carried Jack down the stairs, with Windblade following soon after. "Where did you learn that?" Arcee asked.
"Arcelia." Windblade stated, and paused a moment, "Or was it Sirenia? A custom between gentlemen and ladies."
"Wait, is that right?" Arcee asked.
"You?.." Windblade asked and paused, "You did not know?"
"I was actually trying to mess with them." Arcee said, "I know Jack enjoyed it, but he was also embarassed."
"Why be embarassed about a knight receiving favour from a lady?" Windblade asked.
"Wait, what?" Jack asked.
"You are a knight, are you not?" Windblade asked.
"Didn't someone else ask that?" Jack asked, "Oh, it was Roxana, when she coloured my coat! Wait, I'm a knight?"
"Warrior class?" Arcee asked, "Carrying a sword? She said it about your jacket, is that involved?"
"A... knight's... greatcoat?.." Jack quietly asked.
"As I said, a knight. " Windblade stated, "Chromia would be a dame. So would I? Should I kiss you on the cheek as well."
"Reminder that I was trying to harass him." Arcee stated.
"You have given him offence?" Windblade asked.
"And expect to be punished appropriately." Arcee added.
"Ah." Windblade stated, "Flirting."
"Now she gets it." Arcee added.
* * *
Sirenia landed in the small, strip parking lot outside of the house. She transformed into her dollform and opened the centre garage door. She stepped inside and paused, as June's car was missing. She wasn't at work at the base in Ratchet's vacant clinic. She nervously looked about, to and fro. She jumped into the air and transformed, spiraling around as she flew into the air.
"What crawlled up your tailpipe?" Miko asked over the coms. "A scraplet?"
This caused Bulkhead to scream and momentarily swerve. He quickly righted himself. "Miko!" he shouted, and she simply laughed.
"Sorry." she said.
"Where are you going?" Bulkhead asked.
"June is not here?" a worried, distraught Sirenia asked.
"Did you try calling her?" Miko asked. Sirenia started hovering as Bulkhead pulled into the strip parking lot. "Seriously?" she asked, and turned on her coms.
"Miko?" June nervously asked over the coms. "I... I... I thought I would have more time."
"We're here until we get all of the supplies." Bulkhead stated.
"Hello, Bulkhead."
"Hello, June." Bulkhead stated, "Don't worry. No rush. Jack's safe. They've got a house in New Kalis."
"Where's that?" June asked.
"Again, no rush, June." Bulkhead said to her.
"Could I, uh, use your washroom?" Miko asked, "And shower?"
"Of course you can." June said. "I'll be there as soon as I can."
* * *
June pulled into the small parking lot and paused. She waved at Bulkhead. "June." he replied, and the two just sat there.
"You are in front of her..." Sirenia stated.
"Oh, sorry." Bulkhead stated, and pulled forward. June opened the right garage door and pulled in. She then climbed out of the car, and closed the door.
"How are you doing?" June asked.
"That - is a LONG story." Bulkhead stated.
"Not that hard." Miko said, climbing down the stairs in her exosuit, drying her hair. "Dinobots are real, and are as a awesome as we thought they were."
"Terrifying." Sirenia stated.
"And fighting a war against Transformers that Shockwave turned into animals."
"Not... that... hard?" June shyly asked.
Sirenia stepped into the middle garage door. She nodded her head to Miko, and then at June.
"Right." Miko said, "Jack's orders."
"What are Jack's?.." June asked, as Miko walked up and hugged her. She firmly hugged Miko back. Miko stepped away, and June found herself fully embraced by the dollform Sirenia.
"I have missed you." Sirenia said with all of her spark.
June placed her hands over Sirenia's arms, "I missed you too."
Bulkhead opened his back door, and the wolf leapt out. June looked nervous for a moment, but Sirenia continued her soothing hug. A large bat climbed out a moment later. The two transformed.
"June," Sirenia said, "This is Vera and Barb. Barb will be going to Cybertron. Jack has said we will be paying for her journey."
June looked between the two, and Barb stepped forward. She then paused, and looked at Sirenia.
"I'll teach you how to do it." Sirenia said. "And Vera is here to be your bodyguard."
"My what?" June asked.
"Jack worries about you by yourself." Sirenia stated. "He wants you to have a guard dog."
With this, Vera transformed.
"This is, um?.." June asked.
"It's for you." Sirenia said, "And Jack." She let June go.
"Pleased to meet you, "I am June Darby, Jack's mother."

@timewalker-chromie sent: "Some like it Rough P2 2B Scourge Maelstrom getting a reward from Chromie for helping her out with a time rift pouring out some time anomalies. Didn't think the tiefling would ask for this, and he didn't disappoint."
Some Like it Rough V2: 2B
The sun had set hours ago and the rest of the crew had retired to their cots and hammocks below deck, but the lights in the captain’s cabin aboard The Sea Devil were still aglow. And from the muffled sounds leaking their way out from within, it was clear to anyone listening in that the pair inside had no intentions of laying down to rest any time soon.
“Fuckfuckfuck oh fuck~!!” Chromie cried out, the sexy shortstack gnome moaning out wantonly as she gripped the bedsheets under her for dear life. Her head rolled to the side, glancing back to her companion with lust in her eyes, biting her lip as she watched the massive pillar of his azure dick slamming into her tight anus. “Fuck, Scourge~ you feel so good~!”
The handsome pirate captain grinned at the sexy gnomish time traveler’s lustful cries, his hands gripping her shoulders and shoving her down firmly into his bed as he rammed his hips hard down into her ass. “Not too much for you, is it, my dear~?” he growled into her ear, the firm smack of his hips on her ass growing louder as he got rougher.
Chromie let out a sharper gasp, moaning as she felt his cock drive hard into her—fuck, she could feel him rearranging her guts! “Fuck no~! Mmm, it feels so good~!!” She then pushed back against the fine bedsheets and twerked her ass back into his thrusts, filling the cabin with ever louder sounds of smacking flesh on flesh. “Fuck me harder~!”
Scourge blinked in surprise, before a wicked grin spread across his face. “Well, if you insist~” he growled down to her, his tail coiling around her waist, and suddenly he flipped her around to be on her back, her legs gripped tight by his hands on her ankles and folding her under him in a deep mating press, before slamming his cock hard into her again, the frenetic smack of flesh on flesh filling the cabin once more.
Under him, Chromie continued to moan and squeal with delight, his constant thrusts driving her close to delirium. Oh yes, he was definitely incredible, blowing any and all of her former lovers out of the water entirely. It made her moan and arch back, squealing with delight as she was filled—perhaps she’d let him in on her secret, too, once they were done. Though, with the way he was going at her, that wouldn’t be for a while.
Still, she couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when he realized he’d been fucking a Bronze Dragon this whole time~

The other night, I had a dream where I went to a new restaurant in my town that was just called “Chromie Eats”. In the middle of the restaurant there was a big bariatric bed with you lying on top of it. You were surrounded by tables of customers who were talking and eating meals. Anytime someone would order something, a waiter would bring out two orders, one brought to the customer and one brought to you. All the customers would turn and happily watch as you ate. You were crying and talking about how much your stomach hurt, you felt like you were going to explode. Nobody seemed to be forcing you to eat, but any time more food was brought to you, you kept eating it anyway.
🥺🥺crying and complaining but eating anyway seems to be my modus operandi....

Heads Up 7 Up
Was tagged by @vawianwynn and, one, HOW DARE!?!!? and, two, I guess I have to post 7 lines from a WIP now? I’m not entirely confident in it but OKAY!
“Okay…” Chromie sighed along with the release of a pent-up breath. Though, it did little to unravel the knot that sat heavy in her gut. “We’re gonna try this again.”
She faced the invading darkness once more. It flooded the caverns and swirled about her like ink overtaking water, turning what should have felt more like a home to her into something strange and unfamiliar. And what little light her magic could provide did nothing to chase it away. She knew this from all her past attempts, so she opted not to bother with it. This left her alone, with anything that awaited her cloaked in shadow and her creeping uneasy thoughts anchoring her little feet to the sand.
Just go, she thought stubbornly, squaring her shoulders before taking that first step. Just pick a direction and go.
Resistance was quick to meet her. Not a barrier, but a force. A terribly strong rush of magic that made the otherwise empty space feel as if she were trudging through the increasingly angry torrents of a roiling river. It threatened to pick up her tiny form and wash it away—as it had once, twice, more than three times before. Chromie pushed back, throwing up her arms to guard her face from the tiny sparks that crackled and lashed her in response, marring any exposed skin with angry red welts.
Her true form might have fared better. Or, at the very least, might have added some weight to her for some sort of advantage. But she was dogged, unwilling to give anything that may show as a threat. Not yet. Through gritted teeth, she called out to the dark—to the presence lurking deep within it.
It watched her.
“H-hello…?” the squeak of her voice pierced the stark silence for only a brief moment. Then it was swallowed up into the nothing without even an echo to accompany it. Stillness followed. No reply. Chromie stifled a shiver and tried again, doing her best to keep up a chipper tone. “It’s me! Again! Crazy, I just keep coming back, huh? I was hoping, maybe this time, we could… maybe… talk...?” She stumbled and nearly lost her footing. The blunder had sent her skidding a few inches backwards. A grunt of frustration escaped her throat. “Enough! I know you’re there!”
Not satisfied with it yet but there’s 7.
If I’m gonna tag someone I tag @ladymischievous

only just last night got around to watching your video on [a certain mmo which shall remain unnamed to avoid activating the weirdly-evangelist nutters], and noticed you showed a screencap of the timewalking leveling system that was added in shadowlands when discussing “fluff that needed to be purged.” would you be willing to elaborate on that (heavily-implied) take? asking because finally getting to level new characters in a reasonable amount of time (yet at the same time have actually been able to savor the process instead of just rushing through everything) beyond just my warlock was pretty much the sole motivation i had to play wow during shadowlands, so i’m now very curious as to how you feel about the concept… or maybe this was all just a quick joke, and i was too distracted by my own foolishness to notice the jester crown being placed atop my head?
Chromie time isn't the problem. It's that the game still actively boots you out of your chosen continent before you even finish the story. There needs to be an overhaul to the entire leveling system to give it an actual cohesive story through each expansion. Hell, hit max level after Outland and leave the rest to be done at your leisure between content droughts. But the Raiding First design model the game has operated on since TBC has hurt the story long-term.
Sadly Blizzard doesn't seem to care as they now funnel new players through BFA and into Shadowlands. Probably so new players won't get attached to characters they've thrown into the fire.

Detroit, 2050.
In a shabby, pre-furnished apartment that he rarely ever stays in, Sigstein Conor watches a lone specimen of Oreo chromis variabilis circle in the fish tank.
Tumblr media
The spellcaster draws his wand, that is adorned with a neanderthal skull. Some fellow occultists suspect it was his own, in a previous life. Sigstein only knows that he is drawn to suffering and death, himself being neither dead nor alive, an android made of plastic and powered by thirium-310. Originally thought of as a powerful fossil fuel, thirium later was revealed to be the remains of people of Sixam who perished on Earth. What little life energy was left in the fossil fuel now enables androids to develop sentience and even become spellcasters.
In any case... The fish gets lifted out of the tank by magical energies. As it touches the air, it writhes around, visibly uncomfortable...
Tumblr media
...and moments later only a photograph remains of the happy little fish.
Tumblr media
In the animal’s place a boychild walks away from the now empty aquarium. He leaves puddles on the ground with every step.
Jin: “That was fun! Thank you, Siggy!”
Sigstein: “It wasn’t a total loss for me either. I kinda enjoyed your mimic when you realized that your fishie-time was nearing its end.”
Jin Reed-Chen is eleven years old, a child prodigy who is already a full fledged member of the “Magic HQ” project at the MIT. As the Magic HQ’s chief of security Sigstein is Jin’s co-worker. But as the one who turned a halfscore of cops into fishes several years ago, Siggy is now well advised to apply his powers in more wholesome ways, if he doesn’t want to go back to prison. It speaks volumes about Jin’s family that they consider their son spending a couple of hours each week in a fishtank perfectly wholesome.

An underrated pipefish
Doryrhamphus excisus, the bluestreak or bluestripe pipefish, is probably the most widely traded pipefish in the saltwater aquarium trade, iwhen one arbitrarily excludes Hippocampus, the seahorses. D. excisus is at most 7 centimeters, or 3 inches long, making it a popular resident of quiet "nano" tanks. In the wild, it is native to the Indo-Pacific region, as are most marine aquarium imports. It is native from the Persian Gulf and East Africa, all the way to the Eastern Pacific.
This species inhabits crevices on the reef, into which it retreats when alarmed. It is a habitat generalist, and observations are recorded from lagoons, reef flats, reef slopes and walls, channels, and coral gutters. This hardy pipefish can even survive in the harsh, unstable environments of intertidal pools. Specifically it belongs to the clade named flagtail pipefishes, which evolved to hover in the water column, rather than perch or crawl. Members of this clade are easily identifiable by this habit, and by their well developed caudal fin, that allows them a burst of speed.
This burst of speed enables them to better compete for floating food as it passes, than are other syngnathids, when they are maintained among other, faster swimming and active fishes. Although it is reccommended a watch must still be kept, tI ensure that the pipefish receives enough food. Its natural diet has a microcrustacean base, and these are inhaled from the water column, known as zooplanktivory, or from the skins of other fishes. For this species is one of those fishes, that sets up cleaning stations, and is approached by other fishes to remove their problem of ectoparasitic crustaceans.
In the aquarium, D. excisus is a beautiful and peaceful fish. It will set up a small territory around a suitably sized crevice or cave in the rockwork, then hover there in view of the aquarist. D. excisus is rarely bothered by other fishes, unless they have predatory intent, and they do not themselves bother dissimilar fish species. When more agile zooplanktivores share their aquarium, there is a risk that the pipefish may not eat enough food, but I have maintained them with such fishes as Chromis, Chrysiptera, and dartfishes. These little pipefish are monogamous and, exactly like all other pipefishes, it is actually the male that has a genuine pregnancy in his pouch.

"How can this timeline even exist on my watch? Oh!" She growled in her classic Chromie way, angry enough, but piquing saccharine cuteness at the end. It was such charming perfection, it grated the senses, was nearly threatening. "Could this be... Morchie's work?"
