Really saddened that CONvergence won't be requiring masking in Dealers Room/Artist Alley, one of the most crowded spaces, this year. I appreciate that masks will be required elsewhere, but the more masks optional spaces there are, the less safe the con is as a whole. These past few years, CONvergence has been one of the vanishingly few spaces I still felt cared for, one of the few spaces that was still looking at the science and looking out for the vulnerable members of the community.

Convergence!! Rambling

I don't know where else to dump this but my brain needs to empty itself so haha uhhhh hey

But usually and most of the time still I have a *really hard time* accepting compliments. I get all awkward and don't know what to say to them and just sort of follow a weird script of what I think I'm supposed to say.

This weekend, though, felt like it helped me cut through some of that with all of the compliments and kind things people were telling us. my partner and I sold at a local con over the weekend and everyone was so incredibly nice!!! It is unreal to me how someone could feel that way about what we do but then it sort of hit me.

If I keep putting myself down, I'm also unintentionally putting my partner down and that's not okay. I put our combined efforts down and that isn't okay either. I'm also putting down the people who take the time out of their day to support us with their kind words, and I'm not okay with that!!!

A part of me started to really believe what people were saying, or at the very least, could make a genuine attempt at having good faith in others when they gave us compliments and encouraged us. It was as though that part of me thought, "Okay but if you can't believe in yourself, then believe in others" (a la Gurren Lagann, I suppose) and so I just have to trust the process.

I have to trust that what I'm doing and where my work is at and where it's going and the efforts both my partner and I are putting into this little art studio is worth it and it's speaking to others and other people can see what all we're putting into it.

IT SOUNDS SO MUSHY, but it's definitely the vibe I'm getting? I don't know. I just wish I had the words to properly express how thankful I am to everyone and how much their words mean to me. I've been on this art journey for a long-ass time, and it feels good to know that what I do not only means something to me, but that it means something to someone else.
