hi can I just say re: your last post that it doesnt HAVE to be that way. tomorrow is 3 months for me +my bf and we've been up front w each other from day 1. ofc we're still learning more abt each other but I've never once wondered where I stand with him. You can find someone who is willing to share their heart with you.... you DESERVE to be with someone who wants to share their heart with you! sorry if this ask is weird/intrusive I just wanna say. It doesnt have to be that way

and what I mean by that is yeah it takes a lifetime to know someone but it doesnt have to take months to know if you care about someone and if you both want to pursue something further. If he cant be clear with his feelings, you can find someone who will be clear!

and i mean yeah, you’re right. i guess caring about someone really is the first step of realizing you are in love but... it’s the typical bemoaning of someone having come out of something intense and looking across at some new person being frustrated you’re not in love yet. you’ll always compare your experience of first love to every one after so i just have to like.... trust that there are people who i like that can mutually love me back in a way that makes me feel important. it just. sucks.

kenna did u ever read that huffpost article about millennial nuns? i read it ages ago it seems like the kind of read you might enjoy

yes i read it i think in july or august last year and it was… interesting as a concept definitely, i think it would be interesting to talk about why there’s been a sudden surge in young women joining the church in basically the most devout manner possible, but as for the article itself, based off of what i remember i didn’t think it made any actual conclusions as to why women are becoming nuns, which is what would compel me to read the article in the first place lol. the article (which was written by someone named eve fairbanks apparently? i haven’t read any other work by this writer so idk) has a lot of the same merits of a typical article written by jia tolentino, in that it provides a lot of examples, and is both personal and investigative, but as for having an actual concrete analysis of the things it describes, that’s basically nonexistent, never mind convincing. there’s no grander investigation into what about SOCIETY would be making women wanna be nuns. so in that sense i don’t think the article was satisfying, but i do think there is ample room to talk about the rise in traditional values in young people (tradcaths on here for example, probably half of the people she interviews seem like your basic tradcath/tradwife tumblr blogger) and also the trend (? if i dare say) of certain types of people, in a world where many feel like strong core beliefs are disappearing/not being relevant anymore and/or being replaced with individual little politically correct opinions, resorting to authoritarian institutions with many strict rules about behavior and belief (like nunhood) in order to get the structure they apparently crave in a world that seems to be basically headed towards self-annihilation… you know with climate anxiety and political discord not alleviating climate anxiety and also with many people feeling alienated under late capitalism and not knowing what or who to blame or if the world really just is Ending which… like i can see why all these white women would wanna become nuns basically. but yeah this wasn’t really touched on in the article tho. Which sucks because it could have been a really informative piece instead of just “oh i didn’t know being a nun was a new trend that’s cool [forgets about it 2 seconds later and continues scrolling the newsfeed]” it’s basically like pop culture trend documentation rather than political analysis which idk if you’ve noticed but i don’t like pop culture trends or talking excessively about them but i love political analysis so you can see my issue. Also i’m kind of sick of long ass articles that sound like interesting topics tricking me into thinking they have a thesis or just an important or relevant point and then 10,000 words later i’ve just read what could probs have just been just as relevant as a 200 character tweet to be honest. So basically the concept was cool but the execution was disappointing and i wasted 30 minutes reading it but at least now i know that there are probably more fascist millennial nuns than i previously assumed
