The 20th Lupin III television special, Sweet Lost Night, is coming to Blu-ray in the United States during 2024!
First aired in Japan on July 25th 2008, the 92-minute film contains an exciting adventure across Southeast Asia. When Lupin comes across the legendary Aladdin’s Lamp treasure and swipes it for himself, imagine his surprise when be discovers not only a genie waiting inside - but a beautiful babe! It turns there’s much more to this dame than meets the eye, as after their first encounter, Lupin wakes up at 7am… with no memory of the night before! Rough night, huh?
It’s a race against time to beat the evil Colonel Garlic and his forces, while also solving the mysteries of the lamp. Quick, Lupin, time is running out - and not only your memory is at stake!
The release will come in 1080p video format on Blu-ray, and will contain Japanese language audio only.
Discotek Media, who are behind the release, are paying close attention to video quality, and will be fixing up footage to ensure it’s presentable for modern 2024 displays.

They're re releasing the first Digimon film.
I saw Joshua Seth Tweeting something this morning about there being a surprise involving Discotek but not once did I ever think it would be this. I never could see a timeline where we got those movies uncut with the dub cast but here we are. This is the MUST'est of buys for me. And the fact that they call it "Movie Collection 1" makes me wonder if we're finally gonna be able to own those other movies like Revenge Of Diaboromon and Runaway Locomon and such. Either way I'm fucking excited.

Discotek's blu-ray release of Crying Freeman includes a 12 minute video detailing the changes made for the original VHS releases by Manga UK and Streamline Pictures. As someone who only got into anime when DVDs were the industry standard, it's fascinating to look back at, but this bit seemed exceptionally nutty:

And then they conclude by saying "anyway that was fun but we're so much better at this shit", and honestly, they're right to say it:

Why you should check out Saint Tail
So there’s been talk about how important it is to support the blu-ray release of Saint Tail coming out from Discotek in April 2023. They’ve mentioned a few times in their presentations that the future of traditional magical girl home video releases in the U.S. depends on how well Saint Tail does.
But if you’ve never heard of Saint Tail, there’s probably not a of incentive to try and seek it out. Lots of “support the show!” but not a lot of “why”
I’m here to tell you why:
It’s cute, wholesome and fun. It’s about a young magical girl, Meimi Haneoka, who steals back treasures from bad people to give them to their rightful owners, with a young detective her age hot on her trail. Think of it like Lupin III but if Lupin was a catholic schoolgirl trying to catch the affections of Zenigata (You’re welcome for that mental image)
She uses her magic powers like stage magic to pull off her capers and also relies on assistance of her Nun-in-training/BFF Seira in secret and all before school the next morning!

Animated by TMS & Directed by Osamu Nabeshima, from 1995. Based on the shoujo manga by Megumi Tachikawa that ran in Nakayoshi (the same manga magazine that ran Sailor Moon, Rayearth, Miracle Girls & Cardcaptor Sakura)
youtube
While a good number of magical girls of the 90′s followed trends set by Sailor Moon, Saint Tail takes things back to basics a bit & focuses much more on interpersonal relationships & everyday occurrences. There isn’t a ton of world building or fantasy lore, Meimi/Saint Tail could be any girl in any town with a good heart.
The main draw of Saint Tail is the relationship between Saint Tail & her pursuer Asuka Jr., a stubborn detective's son who is the only person to come close to catching Saint Tail and gains a bit of a crush on Meimi’s magical persona in the process, all while thinking Meimi herself as nothing more than a girl in his class. It leads to a lot of friction between them but at the end of the day you can tell the two of them like each other & are a pretty innocent budding middle school romance.
If you’re a fan of teen romances, interesting takes on the magical girl genre, children outsmarting the police, or just want good things for your soul, check it out! I definitely wouldn’t be the magical girl fan I am today without help from Saint Tail.

Me and a decent amount of people on the internet are convinced Discotek Media has licensed Tokimeki Tonight. I really hope this is the case since it recently got an HD remaster in Japan. I do know a couple of Discotek people are also fans. Fingers crossed!
Other part of me thinks it'll be Humanoid Yokai Bem.

🎶Get wild and tough! Get chance and luck!🎶
My City Hunter collection. City Hunter, created by Tsukasa Hojo, is my favorite anime of all time! I got introduced to this series by my mom. She's always been a huge fan of Jackie Chan and because he made a loose City Hunter adaptation in the early '90s she discovered the City Hunter anime and manga through it!
Originally, the City Hunter anime was licensed by ADV Films (A.D. Vision Holdings) but they went under back in 2009 and the City Hunter license was neglected until it was aquired by Discotek Media. I always wanted to physically own all of the City Hunter series but unfortunately I couldn't afford it back then. After it was rescued by Discotek I pounced on it as fast as I could.
The original manga was released here in English by Raijin Graphic Novels, but they only released 5 of the volumes out of a 35 volume series. There was also a weird bit of editorial commentary in between panels that they did. I only own 2 of these volumes.
I also have the first part of Cat's Eye, another series created by Tsukasa Hojo and set in the same universe as City Hunter, but I still need to get the final second half.
To this day, City Hunter has my all-time favorite soundtrack in anime, rivaled only by the stellar Bubblegum Crisis soundtrack!
