Chapter 6: sweeter
Everyone once, once only. Just once and no more. And we are also once. Never again. But this having been once, although only once, to have been of the earth, seems irrevocable.
Rainer Maria Rilke, Ninth Elegy from Duino Elegies (1923)
“Things are sweeter when they're lost.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Beautiful and Damned
Coriolanus was awake earlier than usual the following morning, taking his coffee on the balcony and drinking it long before it cooled. He enjoyed the scalding sensation on his tongue, and didn't mind the burn. The help seemed on edge, a likely consequence of his aggression the day before. He had no intention of apologizing.
It was difficult to think straight knowing that Lucy Gray was in his home. Tigris normally came home on Sundays, at least in the afternoon, enlisting the maids to wash her clothes and lounging in her room before packing a bag and going off to wherever it is she went. Perhaps Tigris and Lucy Gray would meet today. It was a strange thought, but they hadn’t met before, not physically. Dean Highbottom had squandered that possibility by relinquishing the proper Victor reunion that Coriolanus had envisioned so clearly. God, Highbottom-colored blood on his hands and Coriolanus still couldn’t get over it. This could’ve all been avoided if it had been Lucy Gray waiting for him rather than that wretched man. Coriolanus was certain that he could’ve convinced Lucy Gray to stay with him in the Capitol in the drunkenness of their win, and then they would’ve been months ahead of where they stood now. No Peacekeeper sentencing, no killing of Mayfair and Billy Taupe (although this was admittedly a benefit), no snake hiding beneath a beloved orange scarf. Maybe Sejanus would even be alive. No - but then, Coriolanus wouldn’t be as wealthy. Everything happens for a reason, after all.
Coriolanus liked Sundays. He normally took them to himself, sunning on the rooftop as he attempted to tend to the roses as Grandma’am would. He wasn’t an overtly social creature anyway, but Sundays felt especially sacred and reserved for him alone. He avoided responsibilities and even tried not to think of them, maintaining a clean mind to make room for what really mattered - her. And for the first Sunday in his life, she was in a bed down the hall rather than the bed in his brain.
When Coriolanus reentered the kitchen and handed his cup to the maid for washing, he asked her, “Have you checked on Lucy Gray?”
Nod, yes.
“She ate? Was she sleeping soundly?”
Two nods.
Coriolanus made his way toward the guest wing of the apartment, a place he rarely spent time as he had no reason to. Yesterday was the longest he’d spent in that bedroom, putting it together like a dollhouse. Even Lucy Gray’s closet was full of clothing he’d bought - nightgowns, babydoll dresses with thin adjustable straps, Mary Jane shoes in three different colors. He hoped she could find clothes that she liked, unsure if his taste could satisfy her handmade, ornate dresses from Twelve. Down the line, he planned to enlist Tigris to produce designs that were more in line with Lucy Gray’s personal style. There hadn’t been time for that yet. He’d ordered these items through a catalog distributed by a boutique in the Capitol’s shopping district, listing out his preferences on the phone and having them hand delivered in boxes with pink tissue paper. “Extra-small, and a size five shoe,” he’d reported to the sales associate, barely able to speak through the strain of the wide smile on his face.
He opened the door to Lucy Gray’s bedroom with the stealth of a cat, using all of his energy to be completely silent. The room was clean, but disturbed - he could tell she’d been looking through her new things. Coriolanus hoped it made her feel even guiltier for her show last night. It was difficult to stay angry at her, but he’d give her the impression of such if it gave him more control. Such an empathetic girl she was. That’s part of what he loved about her.
And it’s not that he wasn’t upset still - he was. He’d hardly been able to sleep over it. Coriolanus was not naive enough to not expect some turbulence, but her dramatics with the prospect of assault were deeply upsetting. On the other hand, certain aspects of their reunion had gone even better than he’d anticipated. He thought it’d take longer to get Lucy Gray to admit her desire to fuck him, but she’d said it loud and clear, his fingers in her mouth. Now he could withhold it from her, make her work for it. And she had the liberty to do the same, but Coriolanus didn’t like the chase. He often heard peers at the University quipping about that idea - the gimmick of playing hard to get. He didn’t share an affinity for that behavior. To him, it seemed to be insecure, a last-ditch effort to gain the upper hand by denying an opportunity that would be better served being seized in the first place. Admittedly, he would be a hypocrite in feeling this way and simultaneously forcing Lucy Gray to make greater efforts to gain his attention. But it was different with Coriolanus Snow. Wasn’t everything? He could be hard to get, he could be chased - because he couldn’t be caught. When Coriolanus chased things, he just wanted to find them and shoot them.
Lucy Gray was, as the Avox had confirmed, fast asleep. She looked serene, almost annoyingly so, like a stereotype - lips parted, the sun on her face, her white down feather comforter bunched up at her feet. Things could be worse, couldn’t they, he wanted to say to her. Isn’t Capitol life nice, princess?
Her eyes shot open just as Coriolanus had leaned against the wall directly across from the foot of the bed, keeping his distance but watching her just the same. She opened her mouth in protest, but Coriolanus interrupted. “Relax, I’m not going to touch you.” He succeeded in sounding disinterested and agitated, as though this wasn’t his favorite sight in months.
Lucy Gray’s cheeks were flushed pink. She attempted to smooth down her hair with her hands, clearly disoriented from having just been woken up. He liked her this way, all vulnerable and sleepy-eyed. You don’t have to fix your hair, he thought to himself, denying her the satisfaction. You look pretty. Too pretty.
“Did you like your dinner?” Coriolanus asked, maintaining the flat tone he’d previously used.
Lucy Gray nodded. “It was nice, real nice.”
No thank you, I see. “I curated that menu for us. We were supposed to eat it together, I tried to make it romantic.”
“You didn’t eat?” Lucy Gray’s voice was small.
“No. A waste, really, but I expect I’ll survive.”
Lucy Gray couldn’t tell if she was supposed to laugh at this, if he was kidding. She gathered her blanket further over her chest, still shy at the luxury of her conditions. She’d spent the prior evening in tears, hoping Coriolanus wouldn’t come to her room and praying he would at the same time. The array of gifts and decorations was painful, so carefully thought out. The best part was the guitar, leaning against the far right wall in a brown leather case. She gripped the neck of the Fender as though it was his arm, reminicist of the way he’d hold her in moments of distress and desire alike. Lucy Gray hadn’t known that guitars this fine existed, the strings already perfectly turned and the wood smooth and creamy.
She kept wanting to undermine Coriolanus’ efforts, chalking it up to his evidently newfound extreme wealth. Anyone with riches could do this for a girl, she told herself. And the dumb ones would fall for it. Though, wasn’t he that same boy who’d saved half of his lunch in a napkin for her, waiting outside her cage and apologizing that he couldn’t spare more? He’d been giving her all he could for a while now, only deficient of the truth. It humanized Coriolanus as she imagined him choosing bed sheets with ruffles on the edges, ballet flats in red, black and pink. It also answered a question she’d be waiting to ask: how long will I be here for? A while, it seemed - a very long time.
“I figured you’d like the pomegranates and raspberries, red fruits that burst and bleed when you bite them,” Coriolanus sighed, stepping closer to get a better look at her face. “How’s your lip, on the topic of blood?”
Lucy Gray’s cheeks flushed as she recalled the sensation of Coriolanus’ thumb between the roof of her mouth and her tongue, how pleasured he looked. The force with which he removed his hand had reminded Lucy Gray of where she stood. Her ears were left ringing, watching the froth of her spit turn pink on the pristine floor. Her dinner that night, the most delectable meal she’d ever had, tasted slightly of blood as she worried the wound on her lip bite by bite. She didn’t mind the taste.
“It’s alright. It doesn’t hurt.”
Coriolanus nodded in response. His outfit was much more relaxed today, wearing a white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows and khaki gauze pants. He was also wearing socks, cream, thick socks, so clean that they looked like they’d never been worn before. It was strange to see him this way, dressed down and comfortable. He was almost always in a uniform when Lucy Gray had known him, whether it be that of the Academy or the Peacekeepers. The only other time she’d seen him so casual had been at the lake in nothing but his undergarments, water dripping through his eyelashes to race down his hard stomach.
“What are you doing today?” Lucy Gray managed to ask, entirely unsure of how to navigate their communication, entirely unsure of what this was or what it would be.
“I don’t do much on Sundays,” Coriolanus responded with a casual tone as though he were talking to a stranger in a market, a classmate in the library. “Maybe read or garden. You?”
Lucy Gray was taken aback by the question, having already resigned herself to a lack of autonomy. She struggled to conceptualize that she had a day ahead of her at all, one where she could choose to do something. A part of her had expected Coriolanus to present her with a hand-written itinerary. Lunch at noon. Shower at six. Snow’s room at nine.
“You could get used to the new guitar,” he suggested. “I’d like you to play shows in the Capitol eventually, everyone would. You’re quite the hit here.”
Shows? She could leave? “Would they pay me?”
Coriolanus laughed, seeming somewhat offended. “Do you need money?” He gestured to the room around them, emphasizing that materially, Lucy Gray had what both she needed and what she could want.
“They paid me in Twelve, is all. It was nice to know I was worth something to people.”
“You’re clearly worth a fair amount to me.” Coriolanus’ response was quick and sharp, his eyes boring holes through hers.
“That’s not what I was trying to say.” Lucy Gray began to stammer. She could tell she was upsetting him again, saying all the wrong things. It was hard to speak when he was looking at her this way, like a discovery, an invention, an entity made new by his presence.
“If you want them to pay you, sure, they’ll pay you. Just don’t think it makes you any less bound to me.”
To this, Lucy Gray couldn’t respond. Bound - a territorial limit, a marble-ridden enclosure. She was property.
Coriolanus sensed her apprehension, boldness stirring in his chest. “Do you hate me, Lucy Gray?”
Hate, a decidedly ugly word. Lucy Gray hadn’t been raised to feel such an emotion, considering it too heavy of a burden to carry. Of course, she could recognize it within her all the same - she hated the Games, she hated the feeling of hunger, she hated cold weather. She knew what to label the feeling she experienced when she was revulsed by something, what it was called when her cheeks burned with agitation at the sight of it. Looking at Coriolanus, that was not the feeling she got. It was a sensation much deeper, darker, more lustful. She didn’t know what to call it.
“You should’ve come and got me yourself,” she finally said, remembering the rough hands of several Peacekeepers on her arms, overpowering her without mercy. Lucy Gray and Coriolanus were making a bad habit of ignoring one another’s questions, their thoughts moving faster than their lips.
“You wouldn’t have come with me.”
“You would’ve made me.”
“If I alone could do that, I would’ve done it sooner.”
Lucy Gray knew this was true and had known that before she even made her demand. But what would’ve happened if it had been Coriolanus waiting for her to awake, unconscious on the branch of a tree, the little belongings she had scattered around her? She wouldn’t have killed him - she couldn’t if she wanted to, she hadn’t any weapons and hardly any physical strength. In the haste of her poorly planned escape, Lucy Gray had only been able to bring one additional dress shoved into her undergarments, having to switch between the two for months, typically shoving them on long before they were dry from whatever contaminated body of water she’d found to wash them with. That was the same water she’d been drinking, the kind that somehow made her feel thirstier. As for food, Lucy Gray had been surviving off of plants, eating just enough to dull her headache and rationing the rest. She’d set up camp as soon as she felt far enough and rarely moved from that point on. She wasn’t strong enough to do much other than fetch water or dandelion and clover, as well as the occasional washing of her limited garments. Truthfully, it was hardly a way to live, but Lucy Gray found the silver lining. She had her life, her voice, her autonomy - she’d watch the stars at night, the clouds in the day. Animals rarely bothered her, which was for the better, as she had no function of fending them off. The sight of a singular deer one afternoon had brought tears to her eye, the only company she’d had in ages. The creature was massive but lean, massive antlers adorning his head - a male. He was free. When he’d left her, she watched him intently, galloping through the tree line until he was nothing but a blur, far away and imagined.
As though he could read her mind, Coriolanus asked, “Were you happy out there?”
Lucy Gray didn’t know the answer. In those months spent alone, she found herself feeling more along the lines of… nothing. She was nothing, something to be forgotten - and that’s what she thought he was doing. Forgetting, even though she couldn’t. Nothing, nothing, nothing - nothing in a torn dress, nothing on the limb of a tree, nothing with leaves in its small hands, hoping it wouldn’t taste poison before every bite. Happy was not the word, but there wasn’t another word to give.
“I was myself.” As the statement left her mouth, Lucy Gray worried it didn’t sound convincing.
Coriolanus considered this. “I’m not sure you were, Lucy Gray.”
“You don’t know me.”
“I know you better than you think I do.”
We all do things we’re not proud of to stay alive. He’d once said this to her, before either of them had killed, had been responsible for the dimming of another’s life. That was before he’d known such a power, and even then, he was right. Coriolanus considered himself a man of intuition whether or not he had faltered before. He knew that the feeling that awakened within him at his first sight of Lucy Gray meant something . She was special and would prove to be significant in his life - she already had been. He recalled the thought that Lucy Gray had no life before her name was written alongside his by random, how the calling of her name at the Reaping tethered her to him in this perfect, inventive way. He made Lucy Gray, or the world made her for him. Casca Highbottom had been trying to make a fool of Coriolanus when he assigned him the District Twelve girl, the weakest link. Instead, Casca had given Coriolanus the greatest gift - fame, fortune, perhaps one day a family. He was embarrassed at how bad he wanted that, but reality would not humiliate him. Casca told him he couldn’t have the prize and the girl, but he was going to get it all.
“You’re weak,” Lucy Gray whispered, her voice small, everything about her small, cowering on the giant bed he had custom-made for her.
“For you, perhaps,” Coriolanus said plainly, unable to argue. “Everyone has their vice.”
Lucy Gray’s eyes widened, surprised at his unashamed response. She had to highlight all that was bad about him before the good had space to creep in. “You’re a murderer.”
Coriolanus nodded, strolling closer to the door. He wasn’t angry at what she’d said. He stopped with his hand on the doorknob, completely still. “You once told me that we were responsible for each other’s lives - no one else’s. Which, I suppose, is why you’re a murderer as well,” he paused. “We are remarkably close to each other, Lucy Gray. I know the side of you that you don’t want to face.”
Lucy Gray was left alone then, the slam of the door preceding a flood of vicious thoughts. She laid in bed for hours, experiencing a loop of self-hatred, painful memories, comfort and the remembrance of the feeling of hunger, the idea that if she was here, she may never feel it again.
Her contemplations were interrupted only once that day, a single knock around five o’clock. She opened the door to a perfectly arranged platter of food - triangle-cut sandwiches and the same salad she’d had last night, two servings of it, the pomegranate one. It’d been her favorite, and she didn’t even have to tell him. He just knew.

─◇─◇ welcome to ... the HOUSE OF DE VIL (description & roles)
It’s taken over three months, but the House of de Vil’s new headquarters is ready. Standing on the corner within the central business district of Elias, it acts as both office and boutique for the renowned fashion company. A four-storey building, its wide windows showcase mannequins wearing a mix of de Vil’s classic designs, and new pieces.
The building itself is L-shaped, and was an old commercial building with an attached courtyard behind wrought-iron gates. In its renovation and reconstruction, Cruella had the builders rip off those gates, though the surrounding fence still remains, and opened the courtyard for use by the employees of the House and for the public to use as a sort of sitting garden. There is an art installation and a water fountain in the courtyard. The building has an inspired Haussmann style facade.
( below are a list of jobs available ! )
─◇ Employment opportunities.
There are lots of openings for employment at the House, including within the boutique, the atelier (workshop), the administration, publishing (a branch of admin), and the operations team of the building. Everyone is paid very well (hon hon hon).
If you work for the House of de Vil, it is expected that it is the only place you work at, in the position you're in (eg. if you are a seamstress here, you cannot be anywhere else, but you could be a waitress).
Above all, the House is your priority.

Character Intro: Kéfi (Kingdom of Ichor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nicknames- Mommy by her daughter
Age- 35 (immortal)
Location- Queenstown district, New Olympus
Personality- A bit irresponsible (especially with money) and klutzy (her 5 inch heels make her trip often), she's also funny, sexy, insightful, accepting, & positive. She's never judgemental and always seems to find a way laughing through life's adventures. She's recently engaged.
As the goddess of mirth she has the standard abilities of a goddess, except shapeshifting. Her other abilities include being able to induce a false sense of joy in someone temporarily, causing people around her to become more jubilant and joyful, & cosmetic manipulation.
Kéfi currently resides in a recently purchased mansion with her fiance in the Queenstown neighborhood of New Olympus. Currently living out of boxes, the only things that has been unpacked is her bed and closet. Before this, she had a bit of a nomadic lifestyle- hopping from rental condos & hotels.
As a minor goddess she doesn't have much stake into the affairs of the pantheon. Kéfi does however enjoy the social aspect of it- the exclusive A-list parties and the immediate respect she recieves from the general public being the mother to one of The Graces.
A go-to drink for her is a flirtini. She also likes cosmopolitans, martinis, & New Olympus Iced Teas! Her usuals from The Roasted Bean includes a medium vanilla hazlenut latte and a large pineapple-mango splash.
It's well known & gossiped about Kéfi's "addiction" to expensive footwear! She may even have the largest shoe collection in the pantheon. Peep toe, stilettos, platform, wedges, d'orsay- you name it and she'll find a way to buy them, even if it means maxed out credit cards! She frequents the mall & boutiques every week, not to mention shopping catalogues.
One of her favorite sweet treats is a peach compote dessert cup (added with mascarpone & crushed amaretti cookies). She'll also stop by Hollyhock's Bakery to enjoy some salted caramel-chocolate chip cookies.
Kéfi is the mother to Euphrosyne (grace of good cheer & joy). They're more like sisters than mother and daughter. They often go out shopping, cloud surfing, checking out a new eatery, or dancing the night away at the latest nightclub. Her daughter has been a major support system for her, wiping away her tears through every romantic disappointment. The mother/daughter duo also walked together at her daughter's fashion show during NOFW.
She's currently engaged to the Psionikós (god of the mind); Níkos for short. Kéfi's engagement ring is an exquisitely rare 13 carat vivid purpulish pink diamond accented with pink and white marquise cut diamonds. They both gave an exclusive look and news of their engagement to Modern Olympus magazine. No one really knows how they met or how their relationship started, but a mutually beneficial publicity stunt soon twisted into something dark, passionate, & real.
Kéfi's had former romantic relationships with the gods Priapus, Hydros, & Pan. She's also been in a few relationships with some mermen and mortal men.
In the pantheon, her BFFs are Dione & Panigýri. She was the one who came up with the idea to nickname themselves "The Mama Graces." She's also good friends with Eudaimonia (goddess of happiness), Pherusa (goddess of substance & farm estates), Hesperis (goddess of the evening & sunset), Pagoniá (goddess of ice), Enyo (goddess of war, destruction, bloodlust, & devastation), Neicus (god of debate & appeal), Dimósia (goddess of debate), Záchari (god of confectionery), Lyrikós (Titaness of voice and song), Gymnasia (goddess of excercise & gymnastics), Sardo (one of The Nesoi), Matikós (god of performance), Karme (demi-goddess of the harvest), Elais (goddess of oil), Sponde (goddess of libations), Rhapso (goddess of sewing), Felis (Titaness of cats), Livádi (goddess of meadows), Orthosia (goddess of wealth), Charis (goddess of charm), Karmanor (demi-god of the harvest), Litismós (goddess of culture); future sister-in-law, Evimería (goddess of prosperity), Hybris (goddess of insolence, hubris, & reckless pride), and the model Pandora. Kéfi hasn't really had the opportunity to get to know her future brother-in-law Isorropía (god of duality, balance, & equilibrium).
For income (and heavily discounted products!), Kéfi models for & endorses atelier fantaisie, Luxuria, No. 3 & Co., Diamond Ave., Phaelam, La Petit Amour, Olive Visibly, Anthisméni Raptikí, Paloma, Megaleio, and Euryphaessa, just to name a few.
Her fiance gifted her with the most expensive pair of shoes from Diamond Ave. for her birthday, but she hasn't worn them outside yet. After a walkthrough in her house, Kéfi has kept it stored away in a safe located in her closet.
Aside from her shoes, which she affectionately calls her "babies", Kéfi has also enjoyed collecting jeweled clutches from Diamond Ave. Her favorite so far has been the popcorn shaped clutch! Euphrosyne gifted her the cosmopolitan shaped clutch!
Her favorite frozen treat is Cocktails on Ice's peach white zinfandel ice cream!
She's had more than a few thoughts to start up her own designer shoe brand.
One of her greatest hopes is for "The Real Goddesses of New Olympus" to finally get greenlit!
Kéfi has been a mostly quiet supporter of the MGM movement. She finally made her opinions on the minor god movement loud & aware when she graced the cover of Diaireménoi Stekómaste covered in body paint (in the colors of the MGM movement with the letters being painted on her stomach) wearing high heels of course!
Her all time favorite meal is osso buco with saffron risotto. Kéfi also enjoys Níkos' cooking when he makes oysters, cucumber & onion salad, spanokopita, and arroz con gandules during their date night indoors.
In her free time, she also enjoys shopping, tanning, clubbing, swimming, yachting, going on double dates with her friends and their significant others, tennis, & painting.
"Good shoes take you to good places!"

Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists ~ateliers of the New World ~ Thoughts!
Tumblr media
So! I just finished my 100% playthrough of Nelke! literally less than 5 minutes before i started typing out this post! So let's get started. So Nelke (I am not typing that full title out every time!!!) is a town building style JRPG following an original set of characters led by Nelke, an alchemist obsessed Noble lady out to look for a magic tree and prove herself to her father back home who sets all these time sensitive tasks for her that she must complete, or come back home. This style of time sensitive tasks will be very familiar to people who have played the older Atelier games, however the overall gameplay is otherwise very different. As Nelke, unlike every other Atelier protagonist, has 0 alchemy proficiency. She instead relies on other alchemists to get things done. Which brings us to the main pull this game had for me.
For some mysterious reason, and these alchemists from other worlds are teleporting to this seemingly random location!! So you'll see familiar characters from all atelier games up until Atelier Lydie & Suelle (Which is my favourite), including side characters, such as my favourite Corneria from the Mysterious games! I basically 90% bought and played this game just to have another game that has Sophie, Firis, Lydie and Suelle in it. Didn't really care for most other character simply because i don't know them, but that's on me, not this game. So i won't fault it for that. Basically the more Atelier games you've played, the more little enjoyable character interaction moments you'll find fun.
Okay now let's get into the actual gameplay shall we? So there are 10 main aspects to this game you need to keep track of. Town building, Synthesis, Sales, Production, Dispatch, Requests, Tasks, Visits, Research, and Investigation. Town building. The main part of this game. You need to build facilities for your alchemists to synthesise, your merchants to do sales, your workers to produce materials, and you can't just place at random either. It's good to have districts, as different things you can build have bonuses to specific things, and even specific types of sales. Plus everything needs to meet a road, so efficient usage of space is needed to actually place all the buildings you need. Synthesis. This one is straightforward. You have your alchemists synthesise things you need to sell, things you need for research, or things you need to construct better facilities. Makes sense that in an Atelier spin-off game that Alchemists are your most important and useful people. Alchemists can also perform any role, but only alchemists can do synthesis. Sales. Also pretty straightforward. You sell the things your alchemists make. There's also several categories of items. General, Grocery, Weapon, Boutique and Drug (Sounds weird and illicit. Guess it's an american translation. If it was translated her, it would be called a pharmacy) Now this can be a little annoying to manage, and certain building can only sell certain things, and if you don't have fairly balanced sales, you can lose support in the town. Production. So for this one, you build things like Flower patches, veggie gardens, orchards and ranches, all to produce materials every turn. Definitely don't ignore this one. If you just forget about it, you'll suddenly find yourself using, say, way too much vegetable oil for what you're trying to make, and your whole production>synthesis>sales line will quickly break down.
Dispatch. You can send your people to areas you have cleared in battle investigation, and gather materials each turn. this one is also super important for the same reason as production. You can dispatch at most 5 people to each area. Requests. These are mostly optional requests you get each turn that ask for things to be done within a specified time limit. Like.... "Product 20x of Y item in 4 turns" And you'll get a money reward, or sometimes you'll get a population boost from it. ALWAYS do those ones, as you will hit a point in the game where if you don't have at least 50,000 population, you just lose, and have to start over. Which happened to me. Keep on top of requests! Tasks. These are your main directions for the game. Time limited tasks that if you fail, it's instant game over. Visit. You can visit and chat to all your town members, which consist entirely of characters from the mainline Atelier game. There's a limited number of these you can do each day. Research. This is how you unlock more land to develop, required items for advanced synthesis, and even resolve random time limited disasters. Make sure you're checking the materials you need for things, as past a certain turn number, research locks. Investigation. This is how you unlock new areas for dispatch, or level up characters. It's super super basic turn based combat that is so easy that as long as you don't neglect levelling up, you can win every battle on auto.
So overall i thought this game was.... fine. If it wasn't for the fact that i was playing alongside my favourite characters from the Mysterious games, I probably would have given up, and if it wasn't so short, I probably would not have gone for the 100%. Speaking of. If you go for the 100%, it was super grindy. I beat the game in about..... 30 hours? and then the next 8.4 hours were grinding out the like, 10 achievements I had left.
I think if you're a fan of the Atelier games, and you like town building games, you'll probably have fun here. And that's my thoughts! Thanks if you read this far.

1. Describe the Spaces for Public use in Raval Area. People, public spaces, stores and private areas. Take 4 photos representing three examples of culture: museums, open skate board areas, universities, cultural centers…
El Raval, a neighborhood in the historical center of Barcelona, contains many areas of public space for its community members and visitors all around. One of the public spaces I observed was an outdoor garden area. There was an open area of bright, green grass. It was an inviting space for people to hangout in and also allowed them to be surrounded by elements of nature. Another lively public space I saw was the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona. The museum has a large stone courtyard, with a silver metal sign that has the name of the museum engraved in it. People were hanging out outside of the museum and walking around. Another area I loved seeing was a large courtyard with an outdoor stage constructed in it. It seemed like a place where community members gather and also listen to outdoor live music. It was very peaceful and had areas of greenery as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Where is Raval placed in the City Map? Describe the area. The most expensive area of the core of Barcelona for public use. Show a map of this area.
El Raval is a neighbourhood, or 'barrio' in Barcelona's Old Town. It resides on the opposite side of Las Ramblas to the Gothic Quarter and has a distinct style of its own.
Tumblr media
3. Make a list of public buildings and explain its uses. What kind of people are the target of these buildings? Do you think this area was planned for youth? Take 3 photos of public buildings and explain them.
Upon doing research on the neighborhood, I learned that overtime it had eventually transitioned from solely a local area into more of a tourist area about five years ago. Now, the area contains trendy hotels, art galleries, museums, shops, and other buildings. The target people of these buildings are mainly tourists visiting the city, as well as local youth and adults.
CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporánia de Barcelona - centre for contemporary culture) and MACBA (Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona - modern art museum): The museums hold various exhibitions and art galleries. The large square outside of the museums is an area that attracts youth, even if they just want to hangout in the area and soak up the atmosphere outside.
Clothing stores in El Raval neighborhood: when strolling through the neighborhood, I looked at many clothing pop up stores. There were vintage clothing stores that were small, and locally run. Raval is famous for its boutiques selling vintage clothing and accessories. I included a picture of a local t-shirt shop called Annexia T-shirts in the El Raval district as well; its storefront had an artistic background of white and black graphite art.
Public park area: outdoor spaces for children to play at and people to hangout at.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. What signs can you see in this neighborhood that explain its nature (stores, bars, public buildings, street art, etc…). Take photos of 5 examples that justify your answer and show symbols of alternative culture in the area.
I think that this neighborhood attracts young and lively youth. It is an area that one could call “hip”, with its abundance of unique shops, bars, restaurants, and works of art. It also attracts many tourists because there is so much to see and do in Raval; this is also due to its many hotels that visitors frequently stay at. Something I noticed a lot of on my tour was the street art on the walls of buildings. One door had colorful lettering in graffiti all over it. I did not see any offensive graffiti; it was mostly just big letters and designs plastered on doors or walls.
