They're old men who made their divorce the problem of every young person in their lives <3. 100 years ago during the Great Turf War between inklings and octarians, Craig and Octavio were the chosen ambassadors of their respective species. They got along well, but unfortunately found themselves on opposite sides of the war. During one of the battles Craig shot Octavio in the heart. The inlkings won the war and the octarians were forced underground. For years afterward both men grew bitter towards each other, and eventually Octavio attacked the new Squidbeak Splatoon (a group of secret agents recruited by Craig). Octavio lost both times and got imprisoned in a giant snow globe (and Craig calls him cute). In the latest game Octavio got over his hatred for Inklings (Craig's species) and used his flying mech to help defeat the BBEG of the game. After the final fight, Craig said something to the effect of 'that old rascal turned out to be not so bad!'.

Alright ok hear me out! These two old men have fought in wars for their races against each other and have the craziest pathetic old man homoerotic tension ever. They like, went from at least respecting each other before the war and then they were forced to fight each other and then when Cuttlefish's side won, Octavio went underground like a pathetic lil wet cat and later on he kidnapped Cuttlefish because of game related reasons and both of them still have way too much homoerotic tension!!! And then Octavio gets owned and then in the second game Octavio decides that "Hey actually, lets kidnap Cuttlefish's granddaughter" and the old man isnt even there cause hes busy being a pathetic old man in the under-underground!!! I wanna know more about the transmasc heather hc,,, like where did it come from or how would he realise it maybe?

A have of whole. timeline in my head for this.

So. so the youngest reference we have of Heather is TDDDDI

“I’m guessing either your parents are divorced or you were really fat and pimply once.”

With the video messages from home Island’s final five received showing us Heather’s parents together, it’s the latter that is strongly implied to be true.

Of course, Heather very much does not look like this anymore. While a lot of people do thin up around puberty-

“Of course, only the toothpicky of us is going to fit through that vent. I’m talking model thin. So surely the most athletic of us would want to show off her natural sleekness!”

“For once, I agree with you.”

-I do not consider this to be the case with Heather.

I think of this as a young Heather feeling body dysmorphia and coming to her parents (mainly her mother in my head, as she speaks of her mother far more than her father) for support. However, her mother tells her she feels this because she isn’t thin.

Heather feels miserable, so she listens. She does whatever it takes to look like what others want her to. And eventually, she does.

She still feels miserable. Because it was never about that

The general concept of Heather performing mainline attractiveness for the approval of others extends to World Tour. In Can’t Help Falling in Louvre, Heather is in the line up of girls who wish to be DJ’s model in the tiebreaker. She certainly doesn’t seem to be enjoying herself there, rather seeming very desperate for some form of validation (possibly heightened by the recent loss of her tooth).

Furthermore, we have the idea of femininity being forced on Heather in Brunch of Disgustingness.

“Thanks Heather, but I prefer to keep it natural.”

“Like my mom always says, a lady can always use a little boost in the looks department.”

To me, this scene calls to mind the idea of a younger Heather in Bridgette’s position, not wanting to wear makeup (so to say, not wanting to appear feminine) but having her mother enforce in onto her.

I believe most of Heather’s dynamics with female characters as being drawn from this experience. Lindsay is very outwardly feminine and finds nothing but joy in it, which Heather never did, Gwen rejects a lot of traditional expectations people have of her because they see her as a girl, which Heather was never able to escape. Thus her relationships with them and others are incredibly hostile.

Now, going into World Tour, we have Heather’s antihero arc and her relationship with Alejandro. With both of these things, we see Heather at her happiest.

Now, Heather’s villainy in Island is strongly gendered. Her dynamics with Gwen, Leshawna, Beth and Lindsay, even Trent, are fundamentally written with the idea Heather Is A Girl to the extent you can’t conceptually genderswap Heather and write her dynamics in anyway similar as they are in canon.

In contrast, in my own opinion, WT Heather is not even half as gendered as she was before. You could genderswap Heather and her relationships with Alejandro, Gwen, Courtney, Cody, Sierra, DJ, etc would not change in any particularly notable way. In that sense, Heather as an antihero is strongly opposed to her as a villain.

Regarding her relationship with Alejandro, as it nears its climax we have this moment

Which is an interesting bit of gender non conformity, putting Heather in the traditionally male role while putting Alejandro in the traditionally female role.

Then we have the iconic moment of:

“You mean… I’m the good guy?”

Not only do we a bit more nonconformity with “good guy”, but we also see that Heather’s dynamic with Alejandro puts her as the hero and that she finds joy in that position,

Taking this in addition to how Heather’s villainy is so strongly tied to her status as a women, we can equate the concept of hero vs villain to the concept of male vs female.

As I already said, Heather’s relationship with Alejandro and her antihero arc are where we see Heather at her happiest, which is why I began viewing them, especially the good guy line, as equating to Heather experiencing gender euphoria.

As for when the Gender Thoughts finally hit Heather, I think it would be post TDA but pre-Celebrity Manhunt, when Heather’s hair was growing back.

We never see Heather with short hair, and to me, never had Heather until then. For the first time, Heather saw himself looking “boy-ish” and started to feel some amount of gender euphoria. Though, I don’t think he really understood what he was feeling at the time, and immediately started wearing hair extensions to bury that feeling out of panic.

I think Heather wouldn’t start transitioning until he was into his romantic relationship with Alejandro. Now, I personally hc Alejandro as genderfluid, so being in a relationship with him is what made Heather realize he didn’t have to be a girl if he didn’t want to. I have a similar train of thought regarding his friendship with Harold, who I headcanon as transfem.

DJ literally said himself that making Izzy a “fåTHer FîguRe” was an idea he had shortly before filming the last episode. Honey, that you want to change something about a character dynamic, dosnt mean you can just snap your finger and that’s how it is now, even if you are the director. 

You have shown a very different relationship then that for the entirety of two seasons! Literally the only time you could interpret as him trying to (lazily) set up the father/mentor angle is a single sentence of Stede about how he taught Ed everything he knows. But things that you actually SHOW happening will stay in peoples memory way better than things that are only told. And trying to cancel out two seasons of events with one sentence simply dosnt work!

Even if you wanna go in a direction of “ok after their ”divorce” -again quoting DJs couple rhetoric- they do actually form a different kind of relationship”, then that’s fair, BUT you also need to show this happening! Because otherwise we will not know that it did!

You can’t just establish these things by telling the fans in an interview that they should just interpret the characters different now,

if you don’t show it on screen then it isn’t real! 

I can’t believe that apparently someone has to explain this to a director.

I'm working on a request for Code Lyoko atm, but meanwhile, here are some headcanons!

Headcanons - Code Lyoko

Aelita Schaeffer

I headcanon that Aelita's music and dj mixing skills are rooted in her dad playing the piano and teaching her about music.

It also gives her trauma and nightmares, as we've all seen in the canon episodes tho..

And though she's smart and brainy, I don't see her going to read literature books or novels. Idk if that's just me.

I think she finds comfort in information rather than fiction, so maybe she would prefer non-fiction genres.

I also think that Aelita would like butterscotch ice cream. It's cute.

There are days where she has hallucinations and nightmares because of X.A.N.A and Franz Hopper and her past, and she would like nothing more than to listen to music while cuddling with Mister Puck and having butterscotch ice cream.

Also, much like Nicholas, a lot of people find Aelita cute. Adding to her popularity that rose from her DJ skills, she's sure to have a lot of people having crushes on her. But of course, she's only got eyes for Jeremie.

Remember that lookalike of Aelita who got only one episode on the show? Taelia? I headcanon that people in Kadic call them twins, and they eventually become good friends. I think Jim would get very confused and would put Aelita and Taelia in different classes for the sake of his own sanity.

Elizabeth "Sissi" Delmas

Sissi is a child of divorce (I think that's also canon).

I headcanon that her parents had a slightly significant age difference, because Principal Delmas looks vv old. Sissi's mom was four years younger than him -- I headcanon her to be a fashion designer, she was very impulsive and liked to live in the moment, but eventually, the love they had for each other fizzled out and they divorced.

I also think that maybe her mom wasn't what you would call "maternal". She knows this too, and accepted it when Sissi's dad contested for her during the divorce. It doesn't mean that her mom loves her less, though. She's just aware that her father could care for her daughter better than she could, and chooses to love Sissi in her own way.

I think it was mentioned somewhere in the website wiki that Sissi goes on shopping sprees with her mom, so that could be their love language. I also think that Sissi digs her mother's fashion style and did a little tweaks of that to turn it into her own.

I think that, Ulrich was her best friend before, and they bonded over having turbulent family situations. It was natural for her to catch feelings for someone who understood her, and hence she liked Ulrich. When Ulrich rejected her (multiple times), she was put off, but just didn't know how to handle their friendship from that point onward.

Sissi knows how to bandage wounds professionally (canon) and I think it was mentioned that she wanted to become a nurse. I definitely see that as a career for her, once she's matured and grown into her own self.

She's definitely a writer on the side. She would write under the pen name Sissi for sure.

I love Sissi a lot. She's so much more than what's shown on screen. I'd have loved to see her grow into the person she's actually meant to become, after some maturity and heart-to-hearts with Ulrich and her parents, too.

Jeremie Belpois

Jeremie needs naps.

A lot of naps. Poor guy.

Jeremie has definitely read classics. I also headcanon Yumi to like classics and literature, so I think both of them would bond a lot over this.

I also headcanon Jeremie to be comfortable with certain colors only – like, he wears blues and browns and some beige tones – and you wouldn't find colors like pink or yellow in his wardrobe.

Jeremie's cousin is said to look like him, right? And that guy – Patrick, I think – was a brunette and wore black rock aesthetic clothing. I think that both of them actually looked similar when they were kids, and Patrick must've changed his look at some point to have that poofy hair instead. This probably annoyed Jeremie, but now that they're on good terms, he probably teases Patrick about it a lot (and also has baby pictures to prove his point).

I can see how I turned this into Patrick headcanons. Sorry.

Jeremie likes long walks during the night. When he's not working on Lyoko related stuff, and when he's not able to sleep, he walks around at night.

His prized possession(s) is the set of polaroids that he took with Aelita on one of her first nights on Earth. He has them in a safe (and yes, he definitely has a safe that he hasn't told anyone about. Except Aelita.).

Laura Gauthier

Laura made some poor choices in Evolution, but hey, Sissi made poor choices in the original show too! People can always improve, and change.

Laura was brought up in a very strict household, where only the very best was expected from her.

That's why she desperately wanted to show her dad the laboratory at the old factory and say, "See? I'm a part of something big."

Laura has closeted lesbian energy. Evolution kinda made a big rivalry between Aelita and Laura for Jeremie, to see who was his better equal and all, but I think Laura didn't care about that and just liked getting Aelita riled up. I think Laura is more into girls, romantically speaking.

I headcanon that Laura buys clothes from Sissi's mom's fashion brand.

I can see her being a fan of "ceilings" by Lizzy McAlpine.

I think Laura has the potential to be even smarter than Jeremie, even better than him, too. But she lacks some of his empathy. It's not necessarily a bad thing -- just shows how people who are similar are also different.

Adding on to this, Laura might not be very in touch with her emotions, and might come off as unempathetic. She's just misunderstood, but she's not helping her own case.

Like with Sissi, I think she could be so much more, if she matures and grows into her truest self.

Odd Della Robbia

BEFORE I START, LET ME JUST SAY THAT ODD DELLA ROBBIA IS THE BEST FICTIONAL CHARACTER TO EXIST.

I know it's said that Samantha Knight is the person Odd really really loves, but I headcanon Odd to be a no-commitments soul. He enjoys PDA and dates, but he's probably the most comfortable when he's by himself.

He's a top-tier bisexual.

I headcanon that Odd is allergic to cats. His family definitely seems like the type to have cats at home and he's hated it because all he's done is sneeze.

He's the family favourite. I think this is canon too, which is why he was allowed to get Kiwi as a pet. His sisters probably hated that smh.

This might be a personal wish-fulfilment headcanon, but I think Odd didn't learn how to ride a bicycle. He learned the skateboard, but not the bicycle.

He also feels like the kind of person to hate long car rides? He doesn't like sitting in one place for hours.

Odd is really good at remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and special days. Considering how he had to remind Ulrich that Yumi's birthday had passed, this is probably a canon thing.

Ulrich Stern

Ulrich's a rich kid. Canon. He's known Sissi for ages. Canon.

I headcanon that Ulrich and Sissi were on good terms before both of them hit puberty and Sissi kept forcing herself onto him.

Ulrich's best friend was probably Sissi before everything went downhill between them. Then, Odd and the Lyoko warriors happened.

Martial arts are Ulrich's way of communicating with his inner self. Penchaksilat, karate... he's very self-disciplined.

I think that's why he is so attracted to Yumi in the first place. Her being his equal in terms of martial arts would have been very appealing to him.

With reference to Aelita, Ulrich gives big brother energy and Odd gives little brother energy.

Ulrich is probably the most protective of Aelita out of them all. Of course, Jeremie worships her, but Ulrich has the means to fight anyone who messes with his lil sis.

He played with a lot of samurai toys when he was younger.

Ulrich seems to be the type of guy to like haunted houses.

William Dunbar

I LOVE WILLIAM WITH MY HEART AND SOUL, YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND—

Well.

William is definitely king of reading classics and books. He gives Yumi a book on poetry in Evolution, right? He loves romance novels and crime thrillers, and probably reads for an hour a day.

When you think about it, William and Ulrich are very similar. Both of them are only childs with wealthy backgrounds, but the difference lies in the fact that William is loved by his parents, while Ulrich's relationship with his own are strained.

William's favorite fruit is orange.

Lyoko gave him a lot of PTSD, but he loves the thrill, and he's still a very honorable man. That's why he comes back.

William and Aelita have an unusual friendship, I think. They can relate to being haunted by X.A.N.A. It's very unfortunate that they have limited interactions in the show and in Evolution too.

I can definitely see William going into the military or the CIA. He gives me those vibes.

ALSO, I think William would probably end up with someone who's way younger than him (maybe 3 years younger) – someone with a lot of vitality and optimism — and probably blonde.

MOVING ON

Yumi Ishiyama

Yumi was brought up in a very traditional household, as we know.

Yumi would be very into Asian literature and classics, as mentioned in Jeremie's section.

Yumi doesn't look like it to most people, but she's the most motherly out of all of them. She's a big sister, and she's had to raise Hiroki when her parents were fighting and they almost divorced and all.

I think Yumi's slightly spiritual too. Not to the extent where she fully believes in prayers and ancient rituals, but she understands the significance of her culture and respects them.

Yumi loves fireworks and shooting stars. I headcanon her as a bit of an astrology freak.

I also think that Yumi is bisexual? Or at least, she's always been curious about it.

I think she's had a curious phase about everything. But once she understands, she has the capacity to evaluate for herself and make right decisions.

according to my doctor's records I've lost 15 pounds over the last year or so. gratifying to see tangible evidence because I've been responding well to drug therapy which allows me to be more active than i was... basically ever. hoping i can keep building strength and avoid the wheelchair scenario most people with my disorder face eventually.

doctor also said gene therapy is looking more promising which is CRAZY. i could actually never have to worry about it again. eat whatever i want, do whatever i want, not worry about insurance paying gazillions for medication all the time. have marathon sex... haha jk. unless...

also cara mia floated the idea of going to the east coast for a trip sometime, which would involve seeing Boston, Walden Pond, AND the X files museum just for me <3<3<3<3 just gotta make sure our car isn't too shitty to get us there lel

my brother is getting married in may which means a four hour drive to the venue and my newly divorced mom potentially bringing her online bf as a bad surprise. my dad will be performing the fundamentalist self-flaying the whole time, wondering how he sinned to be punished this way. this will be fun.

however i am glad my new SIL has a way to gtfo, even if it's via marriage into my wack ass family, because her parents do shit like track her phone while she's at college or at work, or call her a whore for wearing leggings. bruh.

I'm in the stage of forming friendships with several people where i feel like every other thing i say is extremely cringe. i hang out with this group on a fairly regular basis and they're all at least 10 years older than me, which is nbd i love making friends with older people, but they just always seem so much cooler than me and i have no idea how to read social cues lmao. there's this kick-ass lesbian couple, one woman is an English teacher who writes and performs poetry, the other is a musician and skater and software dev; then there's my yoga instructor who studied musicology and djs, and her friend who's an artist, plus her husband who is also a musician and dj and software developer, and his friend who's an artist, and another woman who bakes like she's fucking mary berry, and all of them are so funny and smart and cool. i know i have a lot to offer talent and personality-wise but good lord i feel like a single Christmas light in a room full of lighthouses. hey --they're still hanging out with me though lol

when my voice and stamina return to me I'm providing vocals on a track my husband composed. very excited :)))

Why I love Larry James

Larry James is, of the regular cast, one of the least explored. While this is largely due to him being more of a recurring character than a regular character, I can't help but latch on to him with all my questions. But beyond my overanalytic brain, there's something very heartfelt about his character that makes me appreciate every moment he's on screen. That's what I want to talk about today.

One of the first things we come to understand about James is that he takes his job and responsibilities very seriously. He worked hard to become captain and he doesn't want to give any doubts on whether he deserves it. While that means he can be hard on his people sometimes, it also means he knows when to listen to them. The latter is a skill he's gotten better at as the show goes on and that really speaks to his ability to learn and grow, both professionally and personally.

Another thing I've come to appreciate about him is how calm he is in a crisis. Whether it be personal or professional (or both), James has a steady hand and a steadier voice, something that's needed when you have a ranger crew of Walker and Cassie. I think this is shown best when he's trying to talk Tessa out of treating Cordell like the only suspect in 3x15. While everyone else was ready to throw hands, he was trying to focus on logic and getting the case solved, something that deserves more respect than he got in that moment. I can only hope he'll manage to hold onto that going into season 4.

Aside from his professional growth, I've also very much enjoyed his personal plots over the last few seasons. His growth as a father figure with DJ was an absolute joy to watch, from DJ's first appearance to when he was named as James' best man. That said, I think his best plot by far was him reconnecting with Kelly. Despite their divorce, his love and care for her was displayed from her first introduction in season 2. Watching him work on himself to become the kind of man she wants to be married to for the past few seasons has been a joy and an inspiration. Their wedding in the season 3 finale was a beautiful culmination of that and I hope they keep it up going into next season.

To round this off, here's a short list of things I love about Larry James:

Honestly, as far as house parties go, it's got to be one of the best Jack has ever been to. It's hard to beat a mom's vacation home purchased solely with the money won in the divorce because dad was caught cheating; making the best of a situation like that and outfitting it with a hillside infinity pool and a sprawling patio around it? Amazing. And letting your college kid throw a rager there while you vacation in Naples with your new surgeon boyfriend? Well. Jack’s a big fan of that lady already.

He's also a biiiig fan of whoever decided that kegs were for losers and set up the full bar out near the fire pit. They hired an actual bartender. He's standing next to the professional DJ. Fuck, Jack loves college.

He does not, however, love that his roommate is here, too, only because they've been trying to get a room switch for months and the RA is dragging his feet so bad. Hook is moody and scowly and speaks in monosyllables at all times, and Jack just doesn't have time for this. Random room match-ups should be illegal.

Jack takes another swig of his drink. He doesn't even know what it is, since he stopped asking three glasses ago, but it's delicious and goes down without burning, and ah shit, there's Hook: leaning over the rail of the patio with all the sparkling Bay lights beyond. Jack's just drunk enough not to turn away.

"Enjoying yourself?" he asks, and Hook startles, surprise flashing before his face settles into annoyance.

"Go away," Hook says.

"Ooh, two words. That's double your usual; well done."

It seems like Hook has also had enough of the extremely well-made drinks to finally start down this path they’ve been trying to avoid since the start of term to prevent casualties, because he shifts to face Jack. He's got that face on, the one Jack already knows means he is sinking his heels down to ready for battle. "Maybe I just don't want to talk to you, so I don't."

"This is a rare miracle," Jack says. His blood is singing. "So many words at one time! Are you exhausted now? Do you need to lay down?"

"You know what? Fuck you."

"Are you offering?" Jack asks, because he can't help it.

Hook leans in, all flushed cheeks and tangled hair desperately in need of a brush, and his stupid fucking rabbit teeth are very white when he grins. "Would you like that, then?"

"I might," Jack says, and oh. Okay. Fuck. He didn't mean to say that. He probably needs to make a joke, walk that back, not tell his roommate that he hates things that he's been keeping close for years and years. "I'm not really sure, you know, it's kind of one of those things..."

Double fuck. Triple fuck. Why is his mouth still moving. What did the bartender put in this drink?

He expects Hook to either laugh or punch him, honestly, and he's very, very surprised when Hook does neither. Instead, his face opens up a little bit, features going slack.

"Something to use against me, right?" Jack says, jittery and anxious. "Just so you can—"

"Wait," Hook says. He holds a hand up, swaying ever so slightly from side to side as he shakes his head. "No. I mean, yes. Uh...me, too."

"You too, what?"

"Um, the whole...maybe...thing."

Jack blinks. "Oh. Really? You're not just fucking with me right now?"

"Uh, no?"

Huh. That's...unexpected, in a way. Jack feels significantly less alone all of a sudden, and it helps a lot that Hook now appears uncomfortably vulnerable. It's not an expression Jack has seen on the other much. "Maybe, huh?"

"Well, it's hard to..." Hook shrugs. Definitely uncomfortable. His hands are shoved so far down in his pockets Jack thinks he might pull his jeans clear off. "...find an opportunity to figure it out."

"Yeah, right? How do you just ask someone that?"

They fall into silence. Someone on the other side of the pool starts up a chant for shots, and the crowd around the bar grows; there are enough people, all in various states of inebriation, that no one is paying attention to the two of them standing off by the railing.

Finally, just as Jack gathers the remnants of his courage and focus and begins, "Do you think we—?" and at the same time Hook sort of shudders and starts, "Could we maybe—?"

They both stop, mid-sentence. Then Jack sets his drink on the railing. "Yeah."

"Okay," Hook agrees.

They meet in the middle. Jack's angle isn't great, but, like, it's not terrible, either. It's kind of a hesitant, fumbling thing at first, and Jack closes his eyes because it's definitely different with Hook's stubble, the squareness of his jaw. It's...it's not bad. He likes the way he can smell Hook's stupidly expensive aftershave, likes when he sinks his fingers into Hook's hair and it's all short in the back. Actually, this...yeah, this works. Hook kisses with the same almost-arrogant confidence he carries around with him all the time, and when he tugs Jack forward, Jack sees no problem with complying. It's not really that much different, kissing a guy, except that it is, and Jack thinks it might be an internal thing tallying all the differences up. Hook parts his lips, and Jack sweeps his tongue in, and they sort of stay like that, in an unexpected sort of exploration, for a minute or two.

Then they break apart. Jack runs his tongue along his own mouth, tasting the remnants of whatever Hook is drinking. They are both quiet.

"But maybe not you," Hook says.

"Oh thank god," Jack replies. "Yes, exactly."

"The rest of it though..." Hook pauses. "Yeah, this...this is a thing."

"Do you think we have to go buy pride flags now?"

Hook considers this. "Surely there's, like, a grace period before you have to do that, right?"

"God, I hope so," Jack says. "You wanna go back home? I feel like I've just had some kind of exhausting emotional revelation and the last half hour of songs have really sucked."

Hook whips his phone out, tapping wildly. "Yeah, let's grab an Uber. I'll order one. You wanna watch a movie or something? Get some take-out?"

"I would kill for fries right now."

They run into their RA the next week in the hall, holding a clipboard and a bunch of papers. He holds the pile up. "I got your roommate change approved, finally. You wanna sign now?"

"What?" Jack asks. "Oh, no, man, we don't need that anymore."

The RA's eyes look like they're going to pop out of his head. "What do you mean you don't need it anymore? You sent me 37 emails about it."

"Well, that was before."

"In a week."

Jack turns to Hook, who shrugs his backpack on. "Can you imagine dealing with a new roommate right now?"

"Nightmare material," Hook says. "Let's go, lunch gets crowded at the Union and I've got Econ at 1."

"Cool, I'm ready."

They leave the RA in the hall having some sort of nervous breakdown, but that seems like a him problem, really.

This is tmi kinda and I know I've said it somewhere else, but Our Flag Means Death helped me start stepping in the direction of divorce. I related so much to Stede but also to Jim with gender and Ed with some of the trauma and even with Izzy who came to terms with his own queerness later despite having been surrounded by queer people for so long already. I loved all the characters so much. These two seasons have quite literally in full seriousness probably saved my life from misery. Thank you, David Jenkins. Thank you, Taika Waititi. Thank you, Rhys Darby. Thank you, Vico Ortiz. Thank you, Con O'Neill. Thank you, Joel Fry, Nathan Foad, Leslie Jones, David Fane, Kristian Nairn, Samba Schutte, Samson Kayo, Nat Faxon, Ewen Bremner, Matthew Maher, Claudia O'Doherty, Madeleine Sami, Guzman Khan, Rubio Qian, Anapela Polataivao, Rachel House, Minnie Driver, and so many more. Sneak Peek Sunday

Hoppy Easter to all the Tumblrs that celebrate! 

I am behind on a ton of deadlines posting-wise. I’m just dealing with a LOT: medical issues, legal issues, family drama, and hot-ass messiness at work. I’m also pondering my future on tumblr, but for now I do have at least 4 more fics that I intend to write, and post here: an MC lunch ask, #KLAW submission, @bebepac​’s birthday fic, and possibly a Drake-centric fic inspired by a song (or two) currently on repeat in my Spotify.

All of that is to say I DO have something to share: snippets from two fics that WILL be posted this week: my submission for Maxwell Beaumont’s birthday appreciation and my Luck of the Draw fic.

Snippets are below the cut, and a little longer than six sentences as I only have two entries this time around. As always everything is in a state of rough draft; final versions may vary.

Birthday Boy

Once again, it’s my birthday. A milestone one: The big 3-5.

I remember when I thought 35 was old.

I’m celebrating at the Great House that belongs to the duchy King Liam bestowed upon my wife. I’m celebrating with family, friends, and members of Cordonian Court. How I’m greeted lets me know which category a person falls into.

The East Ballroom has been transformed from cold marble and stiff curtains into a discotheque, complete with sequined balls suspended from the ceiling, a DJ, and a dance floor with color-lit tiles. At the moment, the children of Court are playing hopscotch on it while the adults partake of the buffet tables and open bars.

As I make my way through the throng, I grin, shake hands, and thank people for coming. I see my children in my peripheral vision and feel my heart swell to near bursting; my daughter is the spit and image of her namesake, Annabelle. My mother. Her tobacco-colored ringlets bounce as she skips over squares colored green, blue, red, purple. Her sapphire-blue eyes squint in concentration, and her plump lips part as she emits laughs and squeals.  

Her brother Dimitri, two years younger, follows behind her as he clumsily mimics her movements while yelling it’s his turn. He has dark hair and brown eyes like his mother, but he gets his personality from me.

I press forward, my wife now in my sights. Her dark hair is in an upsweep knot, and her cream-colored gown flows over her body. I pause to take her in and marvel at how far she’s advanced since Social Season. She’s no longer coarse and rough-edged; now she’s polished and cultured.

Sometimes.

She’s talking to the King and Queen, and I can tell from her posture the conversation is either agitating or exciting her. Her hands are gesticulating wildly; I already know words are tumbling from her lips as if they were balls being lobbed from a machine.

The King’s eyes roll in amusement while my wife talks; I assume it’s excitement that has my partner so animated. Liam tugs his Queen closer to him just as Crown Princess Eleanor tugs at her mother’s dress and pulls the monarchs’ attention.

As I draw closer to the trio, I wonder for the zillionth time how she’s with me.

After all, she came to Cordonia for Liam.

She stays in Cordonia because of Liam.

Three Blind Mice (LotD, Chapter 6 of The Commoner’s Wife)

“I appreciate your obvious…. attraction to me, Your Highness, but my heart and affections have been claimed by another.”

“You mean your best friend’s wife? Listen to me, Your Majesty….no royal or noble worth their salt will accept a divorced commoner as Queen. Your court will be the laughingstock of Europe and you…. you’ll be the biggest scandal since King Edward VIII. At least he was lucky enough to choose love over Crown, but you don’t have that luxury, do you? Your brother beat you to it.”

“What I do with my personal life, especially when it takes place in Cordonia, is no one’s business but mine. And if you wish our countries to remain in good standing, you will stop talking,” Liam growled.

“Even when it involves fucking other men’s wives?” Marguerite arched an eyebrow.

She lowered it when Liam’s eyes narrowed dangerously. The Princess still needed to make an advantageous match; Liam was the best of the lot. When she spoke again, her tone was more conciliatory.

“Darling, I’m offering you not only a union, but an alliance … a chance to rule over two countries, not just one. We don’t need to be in love and arrangements can be put in place, but only one of us can be scandalous, and I’ve already claimed dibs on that.”

The Princess smiled brightly before downing the remainder of her beverage. She looked around the room before setting the champagne flute on the table in front of her and gathering her purse.

“I’m sure the three of you have much to discuss; I’ll see myself out,” she spoke to everyone and no one.

She began rummaging inside her bag, murmuring to Liam that he could email her a non-disclosure agreement. “As juicy as this morning has been, I wouldn’t tell anyone; however, I understand the need for assurance.”

Marguerite rose, a plastic keycard between her fingers which she offered to Drake.

“Retaliation fucks can be most satisfying. I have a standing room at the Savoy Five Kingdoms. They have an excellent bar and even better room service. Drop by anytime today; I fly out in the morning.”

Riley’s face was dark with anger; her eyes held a flicker of fear.

Liam’s head fell into his open palms.

Drake stared blankly at the key before raising his eyes to the monarch of Monaco.

“Fuck you,” he spat.

Marguerite looked puzzled as she tucked the key into his jacket’s breast pocket.

“That’s the entire purpose, darling.”

i just finished a novel you recommended (bed me duke! excellent!) and moved on to my usual annual re-read of northanger abbey and do you have any recommendations for romance novels for each austen couple? i think that would be pretty cool!

I love that! the Bed Me series has never failed me so far, and I'm very excited for book 4, Bed Me, Baronet (the hero's a blond and possibly a virgin based on ALL his friends speculating about him in each of their books lol). As for romance novels based on Austen couples, I'm gonna be a little selective here because I haven't actually read Sense and Sensibility (but I vaguely remember watching the movie) or Mansfield Park:

Pride and Prejudice

There are lots of romance novel adaptations of Pride and Prejudice, and there are even more claiming to be inspired by the "enemies to lovers" aspect of P&P EVEN IF IT'S NOT AN ENEMIES TO LOVERS ROMANCE. So my best recommendation would be Pride and Protest by Nikki Payne; it's a modern adaptation set in Washington D.C.; Liza is a local radio DJ and activist who meets Dorsey (a Filipino adoptee) and realizes they're on opposite sides of the gentrification situation occurring in DC. I loved how the book dealt with the class difference along with the added layer of race. It also modernized the "proposal" aspect really well imo because randomly asking a gal to marry you without even dating wouldn't necessarily work in the modern era BUT the proposal Dorsey put out there still felt inherently degrading to Liza even if she'd hooked up with him already (another change from the original, and an appreciated one).

Persuasion

Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas: I'll forever recommend this; McKenna and Aline were childhood sweethearts before they were separated by her father the earl, because McKenna was a stableboy. Now he's uber-wealthy and resentful about what happened all those years ago BACK for REVENGE and by revenge I mean he's going to seduce Aline and... that's about it lol. Never has a man come back with more loathing/self-loathing with a plan that's so half-baked even his drunk friend is like "but are you sure buddy".

Full Moon Over Freedom by Angelina M. Lopez: Another second-chance romance; Gillian asked Nicky to take her virginity when they were teenagers and teach her about sex stuff before leaving for college. Now she's back and divorced, and they're skirting around each other and having multiple clandestine encounters even though they think it's all temporary. While there's not much of a class difference, you get the sense Nicky thought of himself as her bit o'rough and she was an unattainable princess-type to him.

The Legend of Lyon Redmond by Julie Anne Long: Second chance romance with love at first sight; There were a couple aspects that really reminded me of Persuasion; there's very similar language to Anne where Olivia is described as having "withered away" since Lyon left, and she refuses all other suitors. And! Lyon is a sailor like Wentworth except, well, not on the legal side of things lol. It's also just super romantic when they do reunite years later.

Emma

Bed Me, Baron by Felicity Niven: George and Phoebe are long-time friends who've known each other since she was a baby. She asks him for sex lessons so she can help her please her future husband who she's engaged to (not George lol). While there's not much of an age gap in this one (4 years), George Danforth is daddy so that should square you away there.

Later on, she sees him having sex with another woman in the stables and it's basically her sexual and romantic awakening, so she spends a lot of the book chasing after him while he's running for his life.... until he isn't. Sex-wise the vibes are daddy dom/mildly bratty.

The closest I could think of in terms of Marianne/Col. Brandon was Rosalind and Torrington from A Recipe for a Rogue by Kathleen Ayers. Like Marianne, Rosalind is initially horrified that an *older man* like Torrington might want to marry her (the number of old man-girdle and secretly balding hair jokes.... hilarious) and Rosalind avoids every attempt her mother makes to match them. Torrington is attracted to her from the get-go and slowly woos her by way of exchanging recipes, baked goods, and licking food off her thighs.

tbh I have no idea who'd fit Elinor/Edward's vibe.

ryan is originally from brisbane australia, in fact all of his family still live over there. he's a classic middle child, he's got an older sister, an older brother + then two younger half-sisters, who are twins.

his parents divorced when he was a teenager, his mother went on to remarry and have the twins, so there is a bit of an age gap between them all.

but he still loves his siblings all the same!! he's very close to all of his siblings, he's in touch with his family regularly.

ryan moved to briar glen for college, he wanted to see the world and have a new adventure, so he moved.

he did a degree in music and graduated recently, he liked briar glen so much, he decided to stay.

him and a couple of his college buddies, all decided to get together and move into their own place again.

they are very close, like besties and they do so much together. eg: movie nights, board game nights etc. they are all very supportive of ryan and what he's doing, they are kinda like his second family!!

B A C K G R O U N D

sani was born on a south korean-united states military base. his mother was an army doctor and his father was a doctor in south korea. his mother was a first generation nigerian-american that dedicated her life to saving others and decided to become a military doctor after completing her residency. she met his father a year into being in south korea, and their love was instant, like a fairy tale.

their love didn't last long though. when sani was only seven years old, his parents divorced and when her time as an army doctor was over, his mother returned to the states, taking him with her. he spent his summers in south korea with his father, but primarily lived with his mother for the majority of his life.

sani's always been a creative at heart. whether it be art or music, both come to him naturally. he can play several instruments (the piano, the guitar, the drums and the saxophone), and is very knowledgable on dj'ing equipment and other music production equipment. he has a nice singing voice as well, but prefers to lean on the more creating/dj'ing side of music instead of actively singing.

he moved to briar glen when he turned eighteen for a sense of independence and to prove to his parents, and himself, that he can make it on his own. his parents both wanted him to follow their paths and become a doctor, but that was never something he wanted to pursue.

I can't sleep so let's talk about DJ Sunshine. Follow me under the cut for dead dove galore!

So Sunshine's main fic is called Amoricide. I've written others with her but this is the primary one. Amoricide is a word I made up - a fictional term for the fictional act of murdering your soulmate. Amoricide (the fic) is a dark soulmate mark au. As the introduction says:

Every culture, dead or alive, had a myth or two about the marks. It was more universal than floods, or world trees, or trickster animals. They said every human had a mark that matched another’s. The matching marks identified them as carved from the same rock, born from the same spirit, whatever metaphor for the soul you wanted to use. They belonged together and would always find each other.

A cute myth. But just a myth. In the safety of modern reality, billions of humans went their whole lives never meeting their soulmate. They married, had children, died, without it. And the ones who did meet their matching mark would soon find there really was no love at first sight. Pushed into marriage by society, unable to divorce because of the old beliefs about destiny, these people who came to hate each other would find only one solution left…

For those unfamiliar with Dead by Daylight, it's a slasher horror inspired video game. The premise of the game is that the Survivors and Killers are both trapped by an eldritch creature called the Entity, and forced to play a deadly game over and over, the pain of the Survivors feeding the Entity. The fandom expanded on the lore a lot, in true fandom ways, which is what I built the fic on.

In Amoricide, Jill Cortez, a Survivor, finds herself targeted by a particular Killer, a fallen kpop idol, the Trickster aka Hak Ji-Woon, who seems to hate her for no apparent reason. This constant, brutal murder she's put through isolates her from the other Survivors, and she can't understand why he's doing it. In truth, her constantly bleeding soulmate mark is a match to his own, and he isn't happy about it.

What nobody knows about Jill is that she has a double life. She's set up a radio station in the Fog Realm (using the knowledge she gained back on Earth to do so) and moonlights on air as DJ Sunshine. Trickster, a bit music starved since arriving in this place, finds a kindred spirit with her, and to his annoyance, realizes he wants a woman he's never met.

It can only end badly when the two find out the truth.

Yeah, this idea is awesome, right?

The problem is, there's not much of a readership for stories like this in the dbd fandom. 90% of dbd fics are reader pov. It's like that for most newer fandoms nowadays. So while I have a few friends that would love to read more, and I probably will finish it, I'm wanting to take what I've got and make it into something original.

The problem is I've got no idea how to take away the DBD elements. ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ They're pretty critical to the plot. Which means I either need to translate the elements into original ones (without getting sued for copyright infringement in the process) or just come up with a whole new plot.

I normally wouldn't bother but I really do feel there's an audience for this. I'm not sure where that audience is (probably TikTok xP) but it's out there. And I just. I love Sunshine. I'd write a whole series of books about her if I could. She makes my heart happy.
