"Unexpected Arrival" fan art commission of Daughter of Smoke and Bone by @lainit with just a hint of Strange the Dreamer. Commissioned by @teddibarez
As readers of both series will know, this is not a scene from ether of the two books, but its a possibility after the events of both books play out.

oh i don’t know i just need to kiss laini taylor on the mouth because there’s something so magical and warm about daughter of smoke and bone. i could read thousands and thousands of pages of karou just living her life in prague with her friends and akiva, chapters of long conversations held in poison kitchen, cold days in tea shops, wintery nights in karou’s apartment…………..so warm and hopeful

If I had a nickel every time a fmc lost her memory of loving her soulmate, I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice, right?

💀 Karou - Daughter of Smoke and Bone.
This book has been on my tbr for absolute ages and I finally, finally got round to reading it! And I figured Karou deserved a painting, poor girl just going through the most throughout this series 😱
Also leather jackets… sooooo fun to paint! Think I should give all the characters leather jackets from now on🤔

top 5 underrated books/tv shows
because “underrated” could be defined different ways I’m going to make this list specifically books that regardless of how well they do like, sales wise, on goodreads etc. specifically receive little to no attention in terms of like, book tumblr fandom here xd.
the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor
The Parasol Protecturate series by Gail Carriger and her Steampunk books in general
Libba Bray’s fantasy series both The Diviners and the Gemma Doyle trilogy
Riley Redgate’s contemporary books Seven Ways We Lie and Final Draft in particular
The Dead Queens Club by Hannah Capin side note: the other books I listed ik the people who love them really love them even if they’re not as popular as I think they deserve to be but this book is apparently really hated by the general public the reviews I’ve seen are sooo negative lmao but I’m speaking my truth I thought it was a lot of fun and also camp
I was going to elaborate on each one but it was taking too long and I got impatient xd. The first three are certified favorites of mine the other two I just really like
(ask me top 5/10 of anything)

Hi! I'm just reading the last book from the dosab trilogy by laini Taylor and I found your blog thru some asks appearing on the dash (I just wanna say idk how old the lt asks are). Since I'm currently reading the series I wanted to say that although karou ethnicity is never specified, only that her pupils are deep black, in the second book set in Morocco it's said that she could pass for someone from the east, meaning that she could easily be of central Asian appearance (karou is kinda 'mixed' because her body is the result of a multitude). Anyway, there are other poc characters like akiva, the co-protagonist and love interest, and in book 3 there's Eliza who is a black girl. I think Eliza is very interesting as her ethnicity is often brought to the reader attention; being Eliza a scientist, she talks of the difficulty for a woman and especially a black woman to being offered the same opportunities as the local white and rich boy in such a competitive field. Later on, when it's asked about her allegiance with the angel, Eliza speaks up about the blatant racism as her identity as a black woman and a black 'angel'. It's also interesting how laini speaks of prejudice, that the white west is generally associated with angels while africa with monsters and chimeras and how the media pretended to forget catholic isn't the only religion that contemplates the existence of angels. Overall I think the books are very interesting, especially the last one on the matter, and a story where the most evil characters are indeed white. I also would like to say it's not really about angels in a fallen way, it is more about this other universe existing nd being used by earth to weave ideas of good/evil-looking under a religious view! Sorry for being soooo long, i would love to know if there are still some people having opinions about these books!
hey no promises because I still haven't reviewed everything I read this summer but these look pretty interesting! I'll add them on libby!
