Tuffle Lore: DBZ #20
I’ve been meaning to revisit the topic of Tuffle lore, and so I decided I should re-watch the episode where they were first introduced.  And I’ve got nothing going on at the moment, so let’s do it now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this is Episode 20 of Dragon Ball Z.  It’s a filler episode, so I don’t know if any of this footage made it into Kai, but if you’re not familiar with this one, I’ll give you a quick recap.  Goku is training in the afterlife to prepare for the Saiyan invasion.  He’s just passed King Kai’s challenge to catch Bubbles, so now King Kai gives him a harder test, which is to hit Gregory on the head with a mallet. Meanwhile, Piccolo trains Gohan, whose right eye is swollen shut for the whole episode.  Also, Master Roshi asks Baba to predict the outcome of the coming battle, and Baba can’t see anything in her crystal ball.  The fate of the Earth is too uncertain to predict.  Also, the rest of the Z-Fighters complete their training on Kami’s Lookout, and Yajirobe bites Krillin on the ass.
Tumblr media
However, the real meat-and-potatoes of this episode is when Goku takes a break for dinner, and King Kai offers to tell him more about the Saiyans.  At this point in the story, Goku only recently learned that he was a Saiyan sent to Earth as a baby, and all he knows about his people is what little he heard from his evil brother, Raditz.  Much of King Kai’s tale would be contradicted over time, but this episode still stands out as a tantalizing peek into the history of the Saiyans before they were under Frieza’s rule.  And this is one of the few sources for information on the Tuffles, the Saiyans’ mysterious enemies.
What I decided to do here was to just screenshot this part of the episode and transcribe all the subtitles.  The dub version of King Kai’s story is pretty good too, but some of the details are changed, and since this is a filler episode, the Japanese script is about as close to a primary source as possible.
Incidentally, “Tuffle” is a localized name for the “Tsufuru-jin”, just as “Saiyan” is a localization of “Saiya-jin”.  The Funimation subtitles refers to the Tuffles as “Tsufruians.”
Tumblr media
“Once upon a time... There were two races of people who lived on a world named Planet Vegeta.  The Saiyans, who are your forebears, and the Tsufruians.”
Tumblr media
“Planet Vegeta, like my own planet here, had an extremely strong gravity.   As a result, the Tsufruians, who controlled the larger half of Planet Vegeta, were a race whose bodies were only about half the size of the Saiyans.  However, they had a remarkable, comparatively advanced level of civilization.”
Tumblr media
“On the other hand, the Saiyans were a race that was very few in numbers, but their bodies were bigger, not to mention stronger, and they were an aggressive, primitive race.  The tails the Saiyans had were their greatest distinguishing characteristic.  They were all warrior-like people, as it were.”
Tumblr media
“At one point, these warriors bared their fangs, and started to overrun the Tsufruians.  The Tsufruians greeted them with advanced weaponry of their own making.  The Saiyans, who should have been utterly outnumbered, were incredibly strong, and gradually, they brought the Tsufruians under their control.”
Tumblr media
“The decisive factor was the full moon, which appeared on Planet Vegeta once every eight years.  That's because when Saiyans see the full moon, they transform into monsters.  For the Tsufruians, this was their greatest threat, and they suffered the most damage this way.   And so, little by little, as the Tsufruians civilization pulled back, the Saiyans quickly increased their numbers.  In time, they completely took over Planet Vegeta.”
Tumblr media
“Then the Saiyans took off into space, seeking to fight even more.   However, since the Tsufruians had been exterminated, further development of their civilization was slow to occur.  They realized that even though they wanted to fight, they could not go out any farther into space.  So the Saiyans joined forces with rich, advanced alien civilizations, and in exchange for furnishing planets to these aliens for use in developing vacation estates, they were able to obtain technology and money.  For the battle-hungry Saiyans, this was killing two birds with one stone.”
Tumblr media
“The Saiyans' activities escalated swiftly, and they even started sending babies to many other worlds, as was your case.  They had come up with long-term plans, whereby once the baby grew up, it would exterminate the planet's population.”
Tumblr media
“But Planet Vegeta had its own Kami.  He could not bear the Saiyans' evil deeds, and using his own powers, he pulled close some giant meteors, which then collided with Planet Vegeta, causing it to explode.”
Tumblr media
“Including yourself, there were only four Saiyans that survived.”
And, there we have it. Tell you what, I’ll just make a list of the details that later turned out to be continuity gaffes.
1) It would later be established that the planet was named “Plant” before the Saiyans conquered it and renamed it “Vegeta”.
2) This episode seems to be the only instance of the Tuffles being half the size of the Saiyans.  In other appearances, the Tuffles are shown to be normal-sized humanoids.
3) 1993′s Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans introduced the idea of the Saiyans arriving on the Tuffles’ planet and being accepted as refugees.  However, a flashback in Dragon Ball GT suggests that the Saiyans invaded the planet from the start. In Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta states that the Saiyans had lived on another planet called Sadala before emigrating to Planet Vegeta.  Any way you slice it, it looks like the Saiyans were not native to Planet Vegeta, as DBZ #20 suggests.
4) Furthermore, 2011′s Episode of Bardock introduces the Plantians, who inhabited Planet Plant/Vegeta in the distant past.  No Tuffles are seen in that special, suggesting that the Tuffles were not native to the planet either.
5) DBZ #20 shows Tuffle soldiers using scouters, the implication being that they were a Tuffle invention that the Saiyans later adopted for their own use.  In 2018′s Dragon Ball Super: Broly, it’s Frieza who issues the scouters to the Saiyans for the first time, well after the Tuffles have already been wiped out.
6) King Kai probably shouldn’t have told Goku about the Saiyans transforming during a full moon, since that sort of borks up the big reveal in Episode 31 and 32, when Vegeta transforms and Goku realizes that he must have been the one who killed Grandpa Gohan.  Then again, it took Goku a while to figure it out, even when Vegeta was transforming right in front of him, so maybe he wasn’t paying attention to this part of King Kai’s story.  Let’s face it, Goku isn’t the sharpest knife in the crayon box.
7) The biggest plot hole is the part where King Kai authoritatively states that it was the Kami of Planet Vegeta who summoned the world-ending meteor shower that Raditz spoke of.  In truth, it was Frieza who destroyed Planet Vegeta and spread the meteor shower story to cover up the truth.  While we can forgive King Kai for not being aware of what really happened, it’s weird how he offers context to a version of events that never took place.  Then again, Planet Vegeta would have had its own Kami, who must have been displeased with the Saiyans, so maybe that Kami planned to destroy the planet, and King Kai was aware of these plans, but he never knew that Frieza beat the Kami to the punch.   For that matter, maybe Frieza stopped Vegeta’s Kami from summoning the meteor shower, because he wanted to wait until the whole population was on the planet before pulling the trigger.
8) Uh sure, King Kai, only four surviving Saiyans.
All that being said, a lot of elements in this story still hold up today, probably  because of Toriyama’s input on this episode, including the Tuffle concept.  For example:
1) The Saiyan population is quite low in King Kai’s story, which would be echoed in Dragon Ball Minus, which states that there are roughly 10,000 Saiyans around the time Planet Vegeta was destroyed.
2) While the Kami of Planet Vegeta has been retconned to hell, the basic concept of a god condemning the Saiyans to extinction resembles the way Beerus authorized Planet Vegeta’s destruction, as revealed in Battle of Gods.
3) The Saiyans’ primitive buildings in this episode look a lot like the lumpy, misshapen houses seen in Dragon Ball Minus and DBS: Broly.  And yet the larger, more advanced buildings, like King Vegeta’s palace and the elite nursery, are comparable to the Tuffle cities. So the idea of Planet Vegeta being this world of contrasts has carried on across 30+ years.
Anyway, that’s all I have.......... for now.
Oh, right, can’t talk about this episode without mentioning Knife Lady. 💗🗡️

Gogeta Lyx
Tumblr media
Yep I'm doing this
History
This version of Gogeta is from a completely different universe in comparison to the one in the Super Broly movie, where neither Goku nor Vegeta exist.
He arrived to earth similarly to Goku but much later, far after the original story. He never meets Bulma, nor Chi-Chi, and has no real affiliation to anyone on earth.
Gogeta is surprisingly passive. Born underclass he'd struggled to keep up with most of his peers because of his more docile and friendly nature. One that he steadily repressed over the course of his life into adulthood.
But his gentleness remained even as he graduated into a soldier of the Frieza Force. Once control was handed over to the Frost Demon he was sent out with the rest of his kin to clear worlds for sale, and practically lost all will to continue upon the first world.
They were a fragile race, practically harmless to themselves let alone anyone else. Unable to bring himself to harm them his companions were forced to do it for him. In his attempt to stop them, he was restrained and forced to watch the planet be wiped clean.
His teammates willingly dismissed his 'weakness' as a kindness to prevent his death at the demon's hands, but he internalized the agony he felt and it bottled into an intense loathing of both Frieza for his cruelty and himself for being too weak to stop them.
Over time he grows apathetic both conquering and destroying worlds, so long as the people of them were evil.
Eventually he was sent out on a solo mission to the reclusive earth. Already well adjusted into the planetary takeovers he sets to complete his mission, ready to destroy the planet if he needed.
But he fails to. The people are far too close to the same innocent and harmless species he;d been forced to watch be destroyed.
He runs away, hiding and training on the planet knowing that Frieza would get frustrated and send more after him
He breaches his limit upon the next teams arrival, becoming a Super Saiyan during the fight. Later on he advances further into the next levels, getting stronger with each attack.
Currently, he has not been approached by Frieza. He's unsure whether it's because he's grown too strong, or because the Demon has some form of plan for him.
General Lore
Being that he never dies during the first invasion, he never meets King Kai nor does he train with him. Most all of Gogeta's progress is done single handedly either by training alone on earth or finding a secluded and empty world to demolish.
Canonically, neither Bulma nor Chi-chi exist anymore. Bulma disappeared without Goku to keep her safe, Chi-Chi falling victim to the dangerous wilds not too long after.
The dragon balls remain hidden, given that Bulma's device was lost with her.
He advanced into Super Saiyan from his determination to protect the earth.
He still has his tail wrapped underneath the sash on his waist. He's never turned into a Great Ape. Yet.
Planet Vegeta hasn't been destroyed because it was easier for Frieza to send his own people after him than waste his entire army on him.
Has a preference for cats, but dreams of owning a bunny.
Wears the short jacket because he claims it's "Too hot". Mostly true because his Saiyan blood runs hot.
Can sleep literally anywhere. Doesn't matter how ridiculous or loud the spot is, he's sleeping there.
Though he tries very hard to seem harmless to the humans he runs across, people fear him due to his inhuman power. Even so he remains determined to protect the Earth as it is the only home he has.

Oh no… I made another Universe for DB Super!
Tumblr media
My Kai in training before I knew there were more Supreme Kai’s & in other colors… Can’t believe Zamasu was a thing!
Tumblr media
It’s a world where Launch was actually two separate people and Tights Briefs had more relevance…
Yellow Lauch is Tights and her daughter with Android 17 is Blue Lauch.
Ofc I’m including Scissor Seven here with Dr. Briefs being the former Prince of Stan & Bikini used to be Cola.
Tumblr media
No matter how many times Trunks tried to fix the future, it kept getting worse.
Marron, Bulla & Pan step in and become: The Triple Threat/Heiresses of Power/Sisters of the Silver Eye(s) 🤷🏻‍♀️…..All sport silver eyes btw
Bulla and Pan transform into something beyond Super Saiyan 4 (look like zabimaru)
Tumblr media
The Goddess of that realm, Bass, takes a liking to them & gives the girls a mission:
Don’t use the dragon balls to resurrect the fallen z fighters (including Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Krillin and Piccolo) but use the relics’ energy to shield their world/ realm from outside enemies….the multiverse & alien invasion. They also have to conquer Earth in Bass’s name, no big whoop… 😅
Trunks, Goten & Uub aren’t too happy about it. P.S. there’s another Bio Broly lurking around (Brollie).

Dragon Ball Legend Part 11
Invasion on The Planet Namek!,
34 days after taking off from Earth, Bulma, Ocarin, Krillin and Gohan had finally arrived at their destination of Planet Namek.
"There it is! We've made it!" Bulma shouted.
"Wow, it sure is pretty." Gohan said in awe.
"Sure is." Ocarin agreed.
"Is this really Namek?" Krillin asked.
"No question about it. The computer says that this is the Planet Namek. We got here four days later than we planned." Bulma replied.
"Everything turned out all right in the end though, didn't it?" Krillin said.
"I guess so. Now, we're going to land so sit down and fasten your seat belts. It's going to be bumpy. Now just got to find a good place to land." Bulma said. "We've landed on Planet Namek! Just wait a minute while I check the atmosphere to see if the air is breathable."
"This looks like the same place where I trained with Piccolo." Gohan spoke.
"This place does have a peaceful feeling to it." Ocarin replied.
"Piccolo." Gohan mumbled sadly.
"We're going to get him back. And the others as well. We've come so far now." Ocarin assured him.
"ARE YOU GUYS MORONS!? WHY WOULD YOU JUST WALTZ OUT HERE LIKE THIS?!" Bulma exclaimed, furiously.
"You sure are as scary as ever Bulma." Krillin replied.
"For crying out loud. I guess it's okay, as long as the Dragon balls are here." She pulled out the dragon radar.  "I'm getting a reading!" Krillin reached and pinched her cheeks. "What are you doing?"
"Just checking to make sure if this wasn't a dream or not." Krillin said. Bulma slapped Krillin hard in the head.
"Is that real enough for you?"
"Guys, I wouldn't be celebrating just yet." Ocarin frowned. Gohan sensed it as well.
"There's a strong Ki coming from over there." He said.
"You're right. I"m sensing a lot of them. They're all powerful, too. What does this mean?" Krillin asked.
"It's probably the Namekians. With Kami and Piccolo being as strong as they were, it's not at all strange that the Namekians form their home would have strong ki too." Bulma replied.
"I don't think it's the Namekians, Bulma. This ki...it feels too evil." Ocarin said.
"I'm telling you it's fine. King Kai said that the Namekians were gentle by nature, didn't he? There are four Dragon balls gathered in one direction. Come on, let's go meet the Namekians." Bulma said.
"Yeah, you're right. It's must the Namekians. There's nothing to be so nervous about, right?" Krillin chuckled nervously.
"H-Haven't we seen that somewhere before?" Bulma stammered.
"It's a Saiyan spaceship!" Krillin shouted. Ocarin frowned.
"Vegeta."
"Gohan, Ocarin, we need to mask our presence. We'll be detected!" Krillin told the two.
"It's Vegeta. It has to be him." Gohan said.
"Damn it! Has he already healed from the fight? Come to think of it, he knows about the Dragon balls, too." Krillin gritted his teeth.
"What do we do? It's hopeless. The only thing we can do now is return to Earth, right?" Bulma asked.
"We are not turning back. If the Dragon balls are here, they are the only thing that can bring back Piccolo and Kami and the Earth's Dragon balls." Ocarin said.
"And the others, too." Krillin added.
"Bulma, you contact Earth and tell them about this, then go back yourself. It's dangerous for you to be here. Me, Gohan and Ocarin will stay here and try to collect the Dragon balls."" Krillin told her. Bulma stared at him in surprise.
"But."
"It'll be fine. We have the Dragon ball radar." Krillin smiled.
"Alright, once I get back to Earth, I'll bring Goku back. The trip will take a while, so hang in there and wait for us!" Bulma nodded. "Hey, what's wrong?" The group saw more spacecrafts, like Vegeta's, fly by and crashing far from them. "More of them!?" Bulma exclaimed. "We can't stay here any longer. I'll leave the Dragons balls to you guys. I'm heading back to Earth wish me luck."
"Bulma, wait! Do you still have the Saiyan scouter? Do you mind if I borrow it for a bit?" Ocarin asked. Bulma blinked. She pulled the scouter out of her bag and handed it to her, confused.
"Um, sure? Here you go."
"You do know that those things don't really work right? Why do you want it?" Krillin asked, wondering as well.
"I know. I just think that it'll come in handy. I'm going to give them a little taste of their own medicine." Ocarin smirked.
"I'm guessing that you got a plan, right?" Gohan asked.
"Something like that. I'm going to give you guys a 5-minute head start, while I'm gathering Ki. Then I'm going to release it as bait. Hopefully, it'll draw out those powerful kis and make it easier to get the Dragon balls." Ocarin explained.
"But what about you?" Gohan asked, unsure.
"I noticed that for some reason the scouters can't really pick up on my energy levels too well. So that will give me an advantage." Ocarin explained.
"What's the scouter for?" Krillin asked.
"To make it easier to see where they are coming from." Ocarin grinned.
"That's actually, not a bad plan." Gohan agreed.
"Wait a minute! Not while I'm here!" Bulma shouted.
"Of course not. You'll be long gone by the time they get here. So, what do you think?" Ocarin asked Krillin and Gohan. Krillin turned to him.
"Well, Gohan, do you want to go back? If something happens to you, Chichi will-" Gohan shook his head.
"I can't do that. Not when we're this close. We can't let Vegeta get the Dragon balls."
"Maybe if we give Vegeta the Dragon balls this time, we can always us them next time." Krillin suggested.
"That is if he doesn't blow up Shrenon like Piccolo did." Bulma replied.
"Well, if we run into trouble, we can have Ocarin go all blue." Krillin grinned. Ocarin blinked, looking at him confused.
"Go all blue? What are you talking about?" She asked him. Krillin's eyes widened.
"You don't remember? You took care of Nappa before he could finish us off! You just got all angry and started screaming and your skin turned blue and your hair turned white."
"I can't do something like that." Ocarin smiled, laughing a little. "I think you might still have a concussion, Krillin."
"But-But! I saw! You were..." Krillin sputtered in shock.
"It's true. Ocarin, you really did change." Gohan spoke. Krillin shivered a little.
"Yeah, it was kind of scary actually. I couldn't move an inch of my body. It was like a heavy weight was pushing down on me, almost suffocating." Ocarin looked at the two in surprise. She had a secret power that she never knew about. How come Kami or Mr. Popo never told her about it? They probably didn't even know themselves. The more Ocarin thought about it, the more she began to get a little scared. The way Krillin described about her power. It sounded bad. Maybe she shouldn't be using it very often, only as a last resort. If only she knew how to tap into it and control it. But how?
"Someone's here!" Krillin shouted, making Ocarin snap out of her thoughts.
"I-Is it a Saiyan!?" Bulma sputtered, nervously.
"No, this ki is weaker." Krillin replied.
"Who is it?" Gohan asked.
"It's probably the Namekians." Bulma answered.
"They're not Namekians!" Krillin shouted.
"They're coming this way!" Ocarin growled. The group saw two aliens wearing armor like Vegeta's walking around the corner of a plateau. Then the two spotted the group and started to fly over to them. Bulma shrieked and quickly ran for cover behind one of the legs of Kami's ship. Krillin, Gohan and Ocarin braced themselves as the invaders approached them and were hovering in the air above them.
"They're wearing the same armor as the Saiyans but they're not Saiyans. I have a bad feeling about this." Krillin spoke.
"May we help you gentlemen?" Ocarin frowned, looking at the two aliens.
"Do you see that? These guys are common trash with barely any power levels. They're just tourists." One of them smirked.
"We won't get to have any fun if they run away. Take care of that spaceship first." The other replied.
"Right!" The first one fired an energy blast at Kami's ship, destroying it. Bulma screamed, covering her head from the falling debris as it crashed on the ground, near the group.
"Oh crap! Our spaceship! Krillin shouted.
"These guys are unlucky to have come here in a time like this." The alien snickered evilly.
"Gohan, it's time to get serious. These guys aren't that tough." Krillin told him. Gohan nodded.
"Do you hear that? They think that we're not tough." The other alien laughed.
"How about we show you our real power." Ocarin smirked. The three quickly lunged at the two invaders before they could react. Krillin kicked one in the stomach and Ocarin appeared behind him and slammed her leg down from above, kicking him down. Gohan took out the other alien rapidly punching and kicking him, knocking him down into the water with his friend. The three landed back down on the ground, next to the destroyed ship and Bulma.
"Nice one!" Krillin smiled high fiving Gohan and Ocarin.
"This isn't great! What about the ship!?" Bulma shouted. The three turned to her, seeing Bulma picking up a piece of the ship's window. "It's hopeless now! It's all over! We'll never get back to Earth now!"
"Let's just concentrate on finding a place to hide out for now. Then we'll start searching for the Dragon balls." Ocarin said.
"She's right. With the commotion we've caused someone's bound to come along." Krillin replied.
"Those many ki that we sensed weren't Namekians." Gohan replied, worried.
"It'll be okay." Ocarin told him.
"I'm sure the Namekians will have a spare ship that we can borrow." Krillin grinned.
"How nice that you can be so optimistic!" Bulma shouted, sarcastically.
The three grabbed whatever they could salvage from the ship and quickly left on foot so they wouldn't be sensed by the other invaders on the planet. Bulma groaned as she climbed up a steep slope, Krillin and Gohan helped her up while Ocarin noticed a small cave opening ahead of them. "This looks like a safe place to stay." Ocarin said. The three walked over to it when Gohan stopped and looked in a direction.
"Krillin, do you sense any ki over there?" Gohan asked him.
"You're right. It feels different from the ones we felt earlier. It could actually be the Namekians this time." Krillin shouted. Suddenly, he sensed several more energy heading towards them, as did Gohan and Ocarin. Bulma looked at them worried, wondering what was going on. Krillin quickly turned to the three. "Hide! There's another ki coming this way from that direction!"
"What is it!?" Bulma shouted. Krillin ran over to the cave, dragging her with him.
"Be quiet! It's coming this way." Gohan and Ocarin hid as well and waited. Then the four saw several people fly past, not noticing them, and one strange horned alien with large talons, in purple and white bone-like armor that appeared to be his skin, riding a round vehicle with his tail hanging off to the side. Ocarin narrowed her eyes at him as he flew by.
"There's a lot of them." Gohan murmured.
"They're gone. Thank goodness. It looks like those people weren't coming after us, right? But what was that?" Bulma asked. She noticed Gohan, Krillin and Ocarin saying nothing, looking tense. Small droplets of sweat dripped from their face.
"Krillin? Gohan? Ocarin? What's the matter with you guys?"
"Bulma could you check the Dragon radar?" Krillin asked her. Bulma blinked at him confused.
"What?"
"When you looked at it before, there were four Dragon balls together, right? Where are they now?" He asked her again. She pulled out the radar, looking at and showed it to the three.
"The four of them are moving which means..."
"Those guys have them." Ocarin replied.
"Gohan? Did you see him? The weird one flying close to the front?" Krillin asked. Gohan nodded.
"Yes. I sensed an incredible power from him. I couldn't move."
"That guy might be even more powerful than Vegeta." Krillin agreed.
"Stronger than Vegeta? It couldn't be! Just who is he?" Bulma asked worried.
"I don't know, but I think he's one of Vegeta's pals. They were all wearing the same outfits. Damn it! How are we going to get the Dragon balls away from these guys!?" Krillin gritted his teeth.
"We still have my plan, remember?" Ocarin pointed out. Krillin looked at Gohan who nodded back at him agreeing then Krillin looked back at Ocarin.
"Do it."
"Hey, those guys with the Dragon balls are heading towards another Dragon ball." Bulma showed the radar to them, revealing the other Dragon Balls heading towards another one nearby.
"How do they know where they are?" Gohan asked.
"What's the location?" Krillin asked her.
"About 14 kilometers in that direction." Bulma pointed out.
"That's where we sensed those ki before. Krillin, it could be the Namekians!" Gohan shouted.
"I'm going over there to see what's going on." Krillin said.
"I'm coming too!" Gohan shouted.
"And I'll get started on my plan." Ocarin said.
"Wait a minute! Are you planning to leave me here all by myself?!" Bulma exclaimed.
"It'll be a lot safer here." Krillin said to her.
"W-When you put it that way, you're right. Fine. I'll put up a house with my Capsules inside this cave and wait for you." Bulma said.
The three flew off, leaving Bulma at the cave hideout. Ocarin flew in another direction a little further away from Gohan and Krillin and landed on the ground. Krillin and Gohan landed on a plateau as they got closer to where they sensed the energy from earlier. The two crouched down.
"Remember, Gohan, keep your Ki suppressed. You can do that right?" Krillin said, looking at him. Gohan nodded.
"Yes."
"They're on the other side of that bluff." Krillin replied. Gohan and him crawled slowly as they inched closer, below them they saw the invaders that they saw flew by from the cave right in front of them. Krillin and Gohan stopped in their tracks. "This is bad! We've come up right in front of them! Let's go around the side!"
"Right." Gohan agreed and the two quietly crawled away a little further away from the dangerous group. Then they peered over the cliff, looking down at them, watching. The saw a few small huts looking exactly like Kami's ship with spikes protruding from them, a garden nearby flowing with strange vegetation, and several long tables and circular chairs.
"Those houses are just like the spaceship that we came here in. But what are those guys doing? Those three especially the one in the middle riding in that round vehicle, each have a terrifyingly strong ki." Krillin pointed out, frowning at the purple alien.
"I know." Gohan whispered. The two spotted two henchmen whom, two of each had Dragon Balls in their arms.
"Look! Those two guys have the Dragon balls in their hands! They're huge! Different from the ones on Earth." Krillin whispered. Krillin and Gohan saw the heavyset henchman with spikes all over his body turning towards them. The two quickly hid before he could see them.
"Something the matter, Dodoria?" The horned alien asked.
"No, there was a slight power reading coming from that cliff. It's gone now. Must have been an insect or a small animal."
"They almost spotted us!" Krillin gritted his teeth. Gohan and him slowly looked over the edge, watching them again quietly. Another scout came out from one of the houses.
"Frieza, we've found only five of them. The remaining others appear to be out at the moment. Get out here now, unless you want to die!" He stepped out, pointing his laser gun at whoever was inside. One slowly came out, surprising Gohan and Krillin. He looked just like Piccolo and Kami, but had wrinkled skin of age, wearing a red vest and white collar and pants and brown shoes.
"He looks just like Piccolo!" Gohan gasped. Several more followed behind him along with two smaller children.
"They're Namekians!"

So I found a miniature plot hole regarding Gohan in Dragon Ball Z Kai. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else, so I figured I might as well. It's not really a big deal, but I'm just nitpicky like that.
Dragon Ball Z Kai, Episode 17: Dawn of a Fierce Battle! The Star of Hope is Piccolo's Homeland!
After the Saiyan invasion, the remnants of Earth's fighters all gather on one of Bulma's ships. Everything seems very normal, that is until Gohan wakes up, that's when things get bizarre. Gohan somehow knows the name of the planet Piccolo originates from, which is Namek. There is no plausible explanation on how Gohan could even know this. Vegeta and Nappa solely reveal that Piccolo was of the Namkeian race and only refer to the planet as his homeworld. Not once do they mention Namek by name.
However, there are a couple of possible explanations for this:
1) A translation issue somewhere along the way from sub to dub.
2) The plot hole came from condensing Dragon Ball Z to Kai
3) The audience is assumed to have seen the original version of Z. And, they already have prior knowledge of Namek.
Am I reading into this too much, probably. Will I continue to over analyze this show, definitely.

Born and raised on (old) Namek as one of the more numerous Dragon Clan warriors, Taiko once had ambitions to be a fighter, encouraged on by an old childhood friend and rival named Orachi. But that ambition died after the catastrophic event of Frieza and his forces invaded Namek in search of their set of dragon balls for his own wishes, only to destroy the planet when that plan was thwarted by a group of helpful outsiders. They and the rest of the Namekians were evacuated to Earth after the revival of those who were killed, and during that year on Earth while they waited for the dragon balls to be restored, the Namekian chanced a meeting with a human woman named Kika whose profession was seering.
Intrigued by the notion of seeing into the future, or even multiple different kinds if presented with a choice that led to many, Taiko would visit this human regularly, becoming fast friends as Kika seemed more than happy to introduce the other to her profession. In fact, the Namekian seemed to have a knack for these mystical prowess. Within the first few months, the ex-warrior was invited to be her apprentice, and Taiko would accept happily – after the events of Namek, they found to have no taste for real battles, and they couldn’t find anything else that they’d be happy with to contribute to the Namekian community.
This would lead to the decision to remain on Earth, even though the rest of their kind was ready to make their new home on another suitable planet. Everyone they ever knew would be so far out of reach, yet they made peace with this. The only thing they couldn’t find within their heart was to forgive the hurt caused by the very friend that had given Taiko a purpose as a fighter – not when he had abandoned Taiko to a set of Frieza’s goons and escaped with his own life.

Perhaps one of the most feared beings in the entirety of Universe 7, Frieza is the (perhaps self-proclaimed) emperor of it all. Frieza is the youngest son of King Cold, the previous ruler, as well as the younger brother to Cooler, whom he rivals with even though the position of ruler was given to him by their father when he retired. With the entirety of the imperial army at his beck and call, there was no planet that could stand against his mighty empire. A planet with any worth was conquered easily, and everything else would be dust for all he cared, oftentimes a fate done by his own hand.
Unlike most villains known, he displays a civilized and refined demeanor, talking with a regal and eloquent nature. He commonly utilizes dark humor, making twisted jokes and tasteless mockery of his foes before killing them, or oftentimes destroying what his foes were protecting just to see them crumble. Some could call him a psychopath, possessing no love for his father whom only seemed to show affection towards his son at times, yet he was better described as a malevolent narcissist; Frieza holds a very deeply cynical view of others, believing everyone is as selfish and untrustworthy as himself. Loyalty to him was expected most certainly, but oftentimes that would be called into question with this in mind.
After spending quite some time in Hell after (several) defeats by the hands of Goku and his little gang, the emperor would not let go of the vast amount of hatred towards the Saiyan that stopped him time and time again, but he would eventually learn to bide his time to exact the vengeance he sought. Now that he was returned to life, especially after helping with the Tournament of Power and thus saving the universe(s) and granted that gift by a greater power, Frieza would focus on making his empire stronger than before.

Once a proud and loyal lieutenant of the Saiyan race, Paragus had thought to have been given a boon of luck and honor when his child Broly was born; a child of such extraordinary latent power, he was immediately placed within the most inner sectum of the palace, near the recently born Prince Vegeta as they slept on in their watery cribs. Truly, any Saiyan parent would be blessed that their blood could produce such a prodigy. However, such power comes with others to fear his very son, igniting jealousy within the Saiyan’s king that a child of lower class should surpass his son’s own latent power level without even trying. The fear was justified in the king’s mind - the child will grow up, growing even stronger without true need of training, but the power could only result in the would-be warrior to lose control over himself. Their world, the very universe, would be in danger when that day came that Broly would lose himself. And he feared what would happen if the recently ascended tyrant, King Cold’s own son called Frieza, were to get his hands on the child and molded him into his own pet warrior. The devastation would be horrendous even to a race of warriors that killed without a second thought. And this led to King Vegeta to rid the child before he could even get a chance to begin learning to be a Saiyan, doing so by sending the child to the most hostile planet known – Vampa. Paragus would follow after his son, unofficially renouncing his loyalty to the King, and perhaps most of his own race.
Forty years would pass, each day vigorously training Broly to become the most powerful warrior he could be, even with no sign of hope of escaping the hostile world. But finally, a miracle would happen. Rescued by scouts of the emperor, Frieza, Paragus thought that he was finally given a chance to fulfill his need for revenge. While it would not be against the King that sent his son to exile, there was still Prince Vegeta, the one that the King thought none should surpass in power. As far as Paragus was concerned, the burden of guilt and betrayal stained the Prince’s hands as heavily as that of the King. Yet when the day came that Broly was unleashed against the Prince and his friend, Goku, Paragus was in for more than a shock as they matched his son with powers beyond even the legends he knew. He was unable to even see the fight finish to the end, when Frieza commented that he knew the secret to unleashing the full potential of a Saiyan to that of a Super Saiyan – by killing someone close to them.
The only reason Paragus survived the death beam was because of a mere short distance away from his heart; however, the act itself had still sent his body into shock, and unbeknownst to him since he was rendered unconscious, the act of his son’s burst of power would save him by burying him in the far reaches of snow and dirt that hadn’t been turned into a volcanic landscape. He woke up, alone, and with no idea of where his son was nor of the rest of the Frieza empire that had coldly, methodically betrayed the old Saiyan.
Now, he had no one, partially crippled in thanks to the would-be killing blow, and his paranoia would be at an all-time high.
->How Paragus Survived: Explanation
Tumblr media
This creature has several similarities as that of the Namekian, and it would be with good reason when he had been a tiny parasite that lived inside Taiko for several years, feeding off of their ki. Named Shami by the very host that he had almost killed, he has little idea of how his kind works at all, a basis that his kind knew what to do at the parasite stage entirely by instinct. When they reach maturity and had enough consumption of ki, his kind undergoes a transformation stage as a sort of cocoon, to which a little less than two months later they emerge in a final form. Perhaps only a kai would know how his species work best, for his kind often scatters in the cosmos and hibernates in a kind of cyro-sleep until they reach a planet and find a host if the planet was hospitable and didn’t kill the parasite.
Despite the ill-feelings that he caused due to having nearly drained the entirety of Taiko, which would also explain what had caused the rapid decline of the previous seer’s health, he harbors no want for violence. Vastly curious and intelligent, Shami learns much from the Namekian as well as from others, oftentimes asking questions on a regular basis until he understood a concept. One could feel the potential for strength in him, but at this point he hadn’t learned any skills for combat.
Tumblr media
The childhood friend and rival of Taiko; one could call him an ex-friend now, sadly. As a Dragon Clan warrior, he was usually the stronger one between the two, though Taiko oftentimes overpowered him with clever tricks. The two seemed quite inseperable, spending time off the training grounds as often as they did on.. When the day came of the invasion and the two were caught by a few goons, however, it was at this point that the warrior escaped and fled without making an attempt to save Taiko.
While he hides it well enough under an exterior mask of a serious fighter, pushing himself harder than he had ever done before, he is truly torn with guilt about what he had done in the face of their first real crisis. Orachi never thought of himself as a coward before that time, and certainly in his head he had imagined the many things he could accomplish and be hailed a hero. Instead, he fled, leaving his best friend to die. The Namekian resolved himself to make up for that time, despite the village elder’s words that fear was normal., and it took will to be able to control it.
But what could never be made up for, in his mind, was the way that Taiko had looked at him – he knows that he doesn’t deserve their forgiveness, not when his friend had been killed during the invasion without so much as an attempt to save their life. And he does blame himself for Taiko’s decision to stay behind on Earth rather than travel with the rest of the race to their new home. Perhaps only the kais may know exactly how troubled his heart was.

Name: Frank Morrison
Age: 19
Origin: Dead by daylight
Icons: No
Icons credit: n/a
About: Frank Morrison was nineteen and had little to show for it. He'd stopped attending school after being kicked out of the basketball team for shoving a referee into the stands. Yet Frank was a man of potential, who could light up a room despite his bleak childhood. At six years old, he'd been taken away from Calgary to start a circuit of foster homes. No matter how many times he'd lashed out, threw tantrums and got into fights, they'd kept moving him to new, unfamiliar houses. His last move had been three years prior when his last foster dad, Clive Andrews, had picked him up from the adoption centre. They'd been on the road for seven hours before reaching a small bungalow in Ormond. It would be the longest time they'd spend together.
Clive was too busy trading cheques from Family Services for drinks at the bar.Ormond was a small, stale place; a remote town of six thousand inhabitants where grey winters drag on for most of the year. Frank did everything he could to get into another adoptive family, but he changed his mind when he caught the attention of Julie, a beautiful girl who was convinced that she deserved better than a life in Ormond, and Frank, as an outsider, was her ticket out. Frank attended the parties she threw where everyone was younger than him and easily impressed, which he liked. He met the impulsive Joey, who liked to show off, and the shy, naïve Susie, who was Julie's best friend. They would hang out at an abandoned lodge up Mount Ormond. Their time together was the perfect break from the boring conformity of their small, insignificant everyday lives. Frank saw it as an opportunity to shape their lack of experience into something powerful. He lined up nights of debauchery and rampage, testing their limits.
Bullying , vandalism, and theft were essentially their weekend plans. It came to a point where they would do anything he asked. Nothing was off-limits when they put their masks on. One evening, Frank dared Joey to vandalise the store that had recently fired him. They snuck inside easily enough, as the building was supposed to be empty after closing hours. But a cleaner who was still there grabbed Julie as soon as she came near. Hearing her stifled cries, a dark impulse took over Frank. He rushed to her aid, knife in hand, and without hesitating, planted the blade into the cleaner's back.As the group stared at Frank in shock, he ordered them to finish the job. Joey clenched his jaw, grabbed the knife, and stabbed the bleeding man in the ribs. Susie didn't want to do it. Frank shouted at her; they had to finish what they'd started. Julie closed her eyes and slid the knife into the man's chest. She handed the wet blade to Susie: they were all in this together now.
Susie stared at Julie in disbelief as Frank grabbed her trembling hands and inserted the knife deep into the man's throat. Frank told them to move fast; they mopped the blood off the floor, stashed the body in the trunk of Joey's car, and drove up Mount Ormond. All four were digging in the muddy snow to dispose of the body when Frank spotted something moving through the woods. He grabbed his knife and broke from the group to check it out. The Fog thickened around Frank, becoming so dense that he soon could no longer see ahead. He retraced his steps and stumbled onto an ominous trail. He followed the eerie path, as if called by the darkness. Julie, Susie, and Joey finished digging, but Frank was nowhere to be seen. Julie spotted his muddy footsteps in the snow and the three of them followed the trail, which took them deeper into the woods. When Julie, Susie, and Joey did not return home that night, their parents thought they'd run away with Frank. Each family came up with a different theory. The mood in the town changed, however, when a body was found by an abandoned lodge up Mount Ormond.

He is named after Goku's adoptive grandfather, Gohan.Unlike his father, Gohan lacks a passion for fighting (although, he does possess a strong power within him) and prefers to do so only when his loved ones are threatened.  Nevertheless, Gohan fights alongside the Dragon Team in the defense of Earth for much of his life.

Name: Trunks Brief
Age: 17-40s
Origin: Dragonball Z
Icons: Yes
Icons credit: A friend of mine (proper credit later bruh)
About: Future Trunks is the Saiyan and Earthling hybrid son of Future Vegeta and Future Bulma from an alternate future. By the time Present Trunks was born, the timeline had been altered by Future Trunks' and Cell's trips to the past. Therefore, the two Trunks had completely different lives (as opposed to those who lived before the Time Machines arrived, they lived exactly the same lives as their counterparts until the point at which the two timelines diverge: three years before the androids arrived).
Well-mannered, serious and very cautious, Trunks hails from an alternate timeline in which Future Androids 17 and 18 murdered the Dragon Team and proceeded to create apocalyptic hell on Earth. Trunks is trained by Future Gohan as a teenager and become a gifted fighter, swordsman and a Super Saiyan; traits that aid him greatly in the battle against the Androids after traveling back in time in order to save his own future.
Years later, Future Trunks would return in Dragon Ball Super, this time fighting against a mysterious entity referred to as Goku Black (and later his partner-in-crime Future Zamasu) wreaking havoc in the future. In the end, Trunks (with the help of Goku and Vegeta) neutralizes the threat, though unfortunately, Fused Zamasu not only survives the ordeal, but his essence began to merge with the universe itself, to the point that Future Zeno had to erase the future timeline completely. Trunks himself is one of the three survivors and is currently living in another future timeline where another Future Trunks exists - created in the anime by Whis warning Future Beerus ahead of time to eliminate the soon-to-be rogue Supreme Kai, while in the manga Trunks and Mai travel to their timeline's past and prevent Future Shin's death with the blessing of Beerus as it will save his counterpart, thus eliminating the possibility of the Project Zero Mortals.

About: While attending a public exhibition demonstrating the safe handling of nuclear laboratory waste materials, sponsored by the General Techtronics Corporation, the 15-year-old Peter Parker was bitten on the hand by a spider that had been irradiated by a particle accelerator used in the demonstration. Unbeknownst to him, after the spider fell from his hand, it bit a girl, Cindy Moon on the ankle before it died from the radiation. Making his way home afterwards, Peter was almost hit by a car; when Peter jumped out of the way, Peter discovered he had somehow gained incredible strength, agility, and the ability to cling to walls, spider-like traits that he immediately associated with the spider bite.
Note: I roleplay as Peter within Insomniac’s Spider-man canon. But always willing to world hop a great type of crossover/au.

Name: Vincent Phantomhive
Age: 20-30s
Origin: Kuroshitsuji / Black Butler
Icons: Yes
Icons credit: Myself
About: Vincent was the head of the Phantomhive household and acted as Queen Victoria's Watchdog. As a young man, Vincent attended Weston College with Alexis Leon Midford and Diedrich. He was the prefect of the Sapphire Owl dormitory. Vincent was idly reading a book on the lawn, while neglecting the preparations for the annual cricket tournament on June 4th, when he was approached by an exasperated Diedrich. Vincent made a snide remark that "everything German is pretty tough to handle," fueling Diedrich's anger. Diedrich swung his cricket bat, and missed Vincent, hitting his book instead. He complained that he was forced to handle all the preparations himself, and commented that since the leader is representative of the pack, the rest in Blue House must be awful as well. Provoked, Vincent proposed a contest: whichever dorm is the winner of the tournament will have the loser perform a free request for him. Later, Vincent led his house to their only triumph in the annual cricket tournament—this astounding event was dubbed as the "Miracle of the Sapphires." Afterward, at the Swan Gazebo, Diedrich accepted his loss to Vincent and asserted that he will carry out Vincent's one request. Vincent then told him to become his fag, much to Diedrich's alarm as they are from separate dorms; however, Vincent stated that he must keep his promise regardless and that whenever he is to call him, Diedrich must come without question. He added that their affiliation will continue past graduation and drifted on a boat away from Diedrich (though he was pursued by him), relishing in his success at finally attaining a "loyal German dog."
Note: Should I roleplay with anyone within kuro’s present canon I will simply use an au in which Vincent is still alive. The events that transpire still happens, he’s merely saved last minute and was kept away from London but relocated into Italy where he becomes the head of a mafia group that keeps the city safe from the shadows. Vincent, of course, is told that he is the only survivor, at the time of the murder the group that found him searched for his wife and child(keeping it spoiler safe just in case.) but none were found.

DBXV3 wish list:
1. Carry the entire DB story. Not just Z, not just butchered GT and Super, but honest to got DB OG. For creative purposes the bad guys could be going back and reeking havoc on those timelines to kill Goku before he even knows how to fight. Then we can get into the whole Red Ribbon and King Piccolo arc, Z as usual, Super again but a bit less butchered, and GT but way less butchered. Sure most of us only care about Baby, 17 and Omega Shenron but I mean, it's more gameplay and bosses to fight, and it's just there so I mean... while we're at it, properly show a movie timeline and explain how Goku could fight Turles and Slug before leaving for Namek, or Broly during the Android saga, etc.
2. Incorporate more of the extended Online, Heroes and Fusions stories, including outfits from those. Like did you know Gohan published a book on the study of Ki and that's why everyone knows how to use it in the future? That Tien and Krillen took up the Crane and Turtle schooling mantels? That there's an entire demon king and even a child to Towa and Mira? There's a ton of multidimensional stuff that can be used and explored for content here, especially characters and transformations.
3. Keep remixing the plots. Like XV2 is really good with this, especially with Cooler and Janemba appearing during Cell and Buu's bits. Maybe we can get a bit of the "Badass Yamcha" story thrown in for laughs. Maybe the androids appear during the saiyan invasion, or Buu attacks Namek and Frieza attacks Earth for the dragon balls instead, stuff like that.
4. Better customization. XV2 is better about it but it's still kind of irritating to have so many outfits locked to specific colors, or just not having access to the hair and face options you want even though there's plenty of characters in the game to directly lift it from. Like why can't I have SS Broly hair but black? Why can't I have Raditz hair? Why do I have to be all muscles as a dude?
4. Same vein, but why can't we have more race options like Androids or Yardrats, Kais and Demons, whatever Tapion and Pikon were, or do like Fusions and have a catch all Off Worlder class with a bunch of extra features to use? Hell why can't we be literal animals like the Tiger guy, Oolong, or the gods of destruction even?
5. Adjustable fighting style. Like each class and gender has their own fighting style, which is cool, but could be better. I want to use swords like Trunks and Tapion, simple enough. Maybe customize the swords we use like the Z sword or Janemba's sword.
6. Better Super forms. Like Blue was dissatisfying for me after all the trouble I went to get it but I can only imagine how others feel playing other races. Maybe for races like Buu and Frieza you can customize the forms they transform into. Maybe even throw in lesser known ones like the Super Namekian form shown off in that one DBO trailer a decade ago that was more like a Super Saiyan form, or SS4, Great Ape, etc. Definitely add in SS God, maybe add Metal like Cooler or possibly fusions with a character you like or an extra avatar. Also, just as a side note, a better job with SS transformations with hair in general. As a side gag and reference, maybe add High Tension from Dragon Quest.
7. Let us customize other characters A. Without TP and B. More freely. I don't understand why I can change the colors on Vegeta's armor, but not his body suit. I also don't understand why I'm limited to just one costume per character to customize. Like I'd like to give Vegeta's Whis armor a bit of a recoloring, or give him something akin to his end of Z or GT get up. Now you can change outfits for some characters, but its limited to just the one outfit you can't customize, and it's only 5 characters.
8. Streamline the TP stuff. Like why do I need 300 TP to buy a gift to gift to my teacher when I could just buy the actual outfit and put it on him myself? Or why do I need to be ONLINE to buy these gifts to begin with that serve no online purpose? Also why are they so expensive? Bring it down to normal TP levels like 15 or 35. Plus, ditch the micro transaction approach, just make new missions give you 20 or more depending on the difficulty or make every mission, regardless of playing it before, give you one. If I'm grinding dragon balls I can rack up a bunch anyway.
9. Streamline dragon balls. Okay look I get that these are supposed to be rare and hard to find but I would love missions either be guaranteed to give you the dragon balls or the ability to purchase them for a high price. Hell, I hate the db gathering quests, make it so if I do those I get either one or as many of the balls relative to the mission. While we are at it, there's 4 sets now. Black Star balls can grant your wish at the price of a level or skill or maybe it activates an emergency quest to gather them back again to prevent the planet from exploding. Shenron has been able to grant 2 wishes since the end of Cell and just ONCE I'd love to see a version grant two wishes. Purunga is also a thing, so 3 wishes. Super Dragon can grant exclusive wishes that the others can't, like giving you 10 level ups at once, or even MAXING you out level wise, maybe even giving you access to all of what you'd normally have to gather the db's to wish for individually, making them harder to get and more rewarding than average dragon balls.
10. Streamline grinding. Why is it that around level 80 it's faster to gather rng dragon balls and wish for level ups? Like maybe add an EXP multiplier or make the money guy actually take money when it's useful to you now.
Then again I probably made this list in vane since they're probably done with the age of character customization. Sigh.

My Dragonball Z reboot
Dragon ball is another one of those big awesome anime series that just didn’t know when to quit.  Like many others, rather than go out on a high note, they just keep going and going, regardless of the drop in quality.  I for one don’t really care for dragon ball super. So, here is the concept for a total reboot of the dragon ball series.  The style would be similar to that of dragonball z, and the setting/world is the same: with earth being the same mishmash of eras of time and cultures. The main alteration to this reality is that planet vegeta and the saiyans still exist. This breakdown will be a bit vague because I do not have any names for the characters. To keep things simple for now and consistent with the franchise trends, i will give them temporary stand in names.
 ARC 1
Two saiyans, a brother(carrot) and sister(cabbage), land on earth with the missions to raise it.  They split up and cabbage meets a human(tech); a young man inventor with some martial arts training.  Making her intentions clear, he challenges her, knowing he has little chance of winning. Though she consistently beats him severely, he refuses to stay down.  After letting her take a rest, he uses a technicality of their agreement (her being on the ground for 10 seconds) to declare victory.  Initially furious, she becomes amused, respecting him and concedes. The two become fast friends and, impressed by earth’s food and beauty, she begins to decide she does not want to destroy the planet.   Meanwhile carrot amuses himself with mischief and destruction. Returning, the siblings clash in a fierce battle which she wins, and carrot, badly injured, spitefully sends a message through his scouter for saiyan back up before escaping.
Tech is told of the saiyans mission of conquering planets in reluctant servitude of the space tyrant, king frieza. Tech reveals he has one of the legendary dragon balls as a family heirloom and if they collect all 7, they can wish for the earths safety.  With practice, cabbage realizes she can detect the unique energy of the dragon balls and they set out across the world to find them. A healed carrot learns of their intentions and sets out for the balls as well, desiring invincibility.  Tech and carrot have many adventures in their search for the balls, including an ongoing feud with an underground militia of sentient machines who desire world conquest. A romantic tension between them begins to build and they also come to meet the hidden alien guardian of the earth, kami and become quick enemies with his evil counterpart piccolo. They also gain a dragon ball from a Martial arts master after first defeating his 3 guards then him.  Impressed and recognizing cabbages potential outside of just her raw power, he offers to train them.  They accept but will only return after they have made their wish.
They gain all but one ball, which carrot has retrieved. Confronting each other again, the battle turns to wide spread carnage when the moon rises and both transform to battle in their great ape forms.  Needing to end the threat, tech severs both their tails, and when carrot attacks civilians in a last act of desperation, cabbage is forced to deal a killing blow. Reconciling with his sister as he dies, he tells her that they have at least 2 years before the other saiyans are likely to come.  Both tech and cabbage agree to use the dragons wish to undo the damage done by the battle.  Building a clock to count down until the dragon balls will be usable again, the two return to the master to train.
 ARC 2
Training under their hardy master and black, his strict niece/assistant, both have shown great improvement in their fighting skills, as well as more open signs of feelings for each other.  With nothing left to learn, they are dispatched far and wide to do odd ball tasks for their master.  Eventually, he reveals that due to financial difficulties, he intends for them to represent his dojo in the world’s martial arts tournament.  They do and face many opponents and win. However, the semi-final has them battling each other. After a long match that sees many feelings and insecurities brought to the surface, cabbage ultimately wins. She faces the final opponent, revealed to be a disguised piccolo.  After a brutal match in which both resort to using their energy attacks, she seemingly destroys piccolo and wins the tournament.  She and tech reconcile and admit they love each other and begin a relationship.  As a show of love he gathers the dragon balls and wishes cabbages tail back.
 ARC 3
Before the dragon balls can renew again, cabbage, tech and their allies, now called the Z fighters, are summoned by kami. Revealing that the saiyans are on their way and will arrive sooner than expected, he intends to train them in special new techniques to better stand against the saiyans’ powers. During their training, they also learn of the history of the saiyans as well as of kamis race. Eventually the z fighters head for the desert in hopes of keeping the fight away from populated areas.  A squad of 5 saiyans arrives, including an old friend of cabbage and led by the psychotic saiyan prince broly. Broly declares her a traitor but chooses to sit and watch as the others fight.  A massive battle erupts between the groups in which two of the saiyans are killed but the master is badly wounded and all but cabbage and tech leave to take him to heal. All of this is also witnessed by piccolo from afar, who takes an interest in broly.
The moon rises and cabbage and the two other saiyans transform and do battle as great apes all through the night.  She manages to kill one but chooses to spare her friend. Broly finally enters the battle and is the stronger as he beats her. Summoning as much ki as he can muster, tech manages a single punch to broly, scarring and briefly disorienting him. His hand now shattered and with no energy left, tech can only smugly accept his fate as broly angrily delivers a fatal blow. Driven made by grief, cabbage is transformed into a legendary super saiyan, while her friend takes tech to safety.  Despite unleashing his full power and going into a battle craze, broly is beaten to within an inch of his life and left for dead.  Unknown to the others, he is rescued by piccolo, who returns him to his ship and maintains that he is an ally.  Cabbage and tech declare their love as he dies, but he reminds her that she can bring him back with the dragon balls and she promises to. Her friend declines to stay on earth and leaves to rejoin their race.
 ARC 4
While cabbage deals with loss and boredom in the living world, techs soul appears at a cross road between heaven and hell. A middle road appears to him and a voice leads him down it to a small world. There he is greeted by the great king kai, who intends to train him so he will be stronger when he is brought back to life.  It is revealed that carrot is also there being trained by the kai.  Though there is initial hostility, the two grow closer through their training and become somewhat more civil.  With the dragon balls active again, cabbage is in a race against piccolo to retrieve them.  After all have been found by one or the other, they fight for all 7.  Piccolo wins but the dragon cannot grant his wish of immortality, as he is technically still a part of kami, and the dragon cannot grant his own creator a wish. While piccolo angrily attacks the dragon, cabbage is telepathically informed by king kai to phrase her wish a certain way. She steals the wish in the confusion, which results in reviving tech and carrot.  Syphoning some of the dragons power before he vanishes again, piccolo empowers himself and battles the three, who ultimately defeat him, but are warned not to kill him for fear of killing kami.  Piccolo is instead imprisoned beneath the dojo.
A brief time jump shows that tech and cabbage are married and she is pregnant and they have moved into a house connected to their master’s dojo. Carrot has also joined them, now having a love/hate relationship with black. They take part in a celebration and competition between many of the regional martial arts dojos.
 ARC 5
8 years later, tech and cabbage act as instructors for the now more popular dojo, with their half saiyan twin son and daughter among their students. Carrot and black are also together and have 2 sons.  As their anniversary nears, cabbage finds herself teleported to king kais world, who warns of a great threat heading to earth. He teaches her many powerful new techniques, primarily the spirit bomb. Sending her back, she and tech celebrate their anniversary before the earth comes under invasion; king frieza has arrived. The Z fighters fight friezas forces across multiple locations and skirmishes until frieza and a healed broly arrive, along with cabbages friend, now a brain washed cyborg.  Broly and carrot clash in a furious battle, with both reaching super saiyan forms and fighting to a standstill. Tech battles the cyborg saiyan but is beaten, but she is then overwhelmed and beaten by the half saiyan children.
Cabbage battles with frieza but cannot overcome him and transforms into a super saiyan.  Frieza absorbs the kai of his forces, killing them but making him giant and more powerful. Using her knowledge of earth to her advantage, the moon rises and she becomes a super saiyan great ape.  Now more evenly matched, they engage in a titan sized battle that destroys the land scape.  By dawn cabbage reverts to normal and a beaten and humiliated, frieza prepares a blast to destroy all of earth and intends to do the same to the saiyans home world Vegeta.  Hearing this, broly furiously attacks him, thwarting the attack.  Using the opening, cabbage charges a spirit bomb and blasts frieza into space and his apparent death.  Broly escapes in the chaos and vows to return with the whole saiyan army.
In the aftermath, the z fighters return home with the cyborg saiyan, who appears to be free of her brainwashing.  They locate the dragon balls again and finally use their wish to protect earth, making it invisible to any who mean it harm.  This is just in time as broly returns with his forces but cannot locate the planet. Embarrassed, he is also belittled and ordered back to planet vegeta by his father king paragus to answer for his betrayal of frieza, who is revealed to have survived.  On earth, the cyborg saiyan is briefly taken over by a preprogrammed order and silently slips away and frees piccolo, giving him a special task from broly.
 ARC 6
1 year after the defeat of frieza, tech, cabbage, carrot and black leave to take part in the next world martial arts tournament.  While they are gone, piccolo returns and battles the dojo master, with the cyborgs conditioning keeping her from interfering.  Piccolo wins and kidnaps the 4 half saiyan children, per brolys request.  Their parents return and are told by the cyborg that piccolo has taken them to planet vegeta. Before they leave on a ship salvaged from friezas invasion, they are summoned by kami. Knowing that piccolo must be destroyed, he names the dojo master as his successor and gives each of the fighters a portion of his power. They leave and briefly stop on namik, kamis home world. They train in new techniques, resupply and learn of a single renegade warrior, who sought redemption by splitting his good and evil halves, forming kami and piccolo.  The cyborg, thinking herself a liability, chooses to stay on namik and mentally train to overcome her conditioning.
Arriving on vegeta, they learn that broly has killed his father and become king and is in the midst of a battle with friezas empire. They infiltrate vegeta only to discover broly, with piccolo, and a cyborg freiza striking a truce.  They reveal the half saiyan children, now brainwashed, and have them attack their parents.  After some time, the parents use the mental abilities they learned on namik to reach the children and free them.  An all-out brawl soon erupts; cabbage fighting broly, carrot fighting frieza, tech and black fighting piccolo and the children and the z fighters fighting broly/friezas henchman. The rest of the saiyans, convinced by the returned cyborg to rebel against broly, renew their fight against freizas forces.  Both frieza and piccolo are killed in the respective battles, and on earth, the master bids a sad farwell to kami as he dies. Their battle having taken them to a nearby barren world, broly and cabbage are evenly matched as super saiyans.  Broly absorbs all the ki of freizas forces, destroying his whole army and transforming into the super saiyan god form.  Cabbage is able to achieve the same with the ki willingly given by her family, friends and the other saiyans.  She manages to win the fight by blasting broly into the sun with a spirit bomb, killing him.
In the aftermath, the cyborg becomes the new queen of vegeta and the others enjoy a vacation there before returning to earth.  A nemikian joins them so as to aid the master and repower the dragon balls.  Cabbage and tech also take over as masters for the dojo.
 ARC 7
6 years later, the half saiyan children are deal with high school and mundane life while keeping their considerable power under wraps.  The Z fighters are forced to again contend with the return of the machine militia, as well as the vengeful brother of freiza, cooler. Cooler however is more honorable and relents after accepting the necessity of his brothers death.  The earth soon faces a new threat of the dark kai, a demonic former kai who sought cosmic destruction. Joined by cooler, the z fighters infiltrate his demonic fortress, with it taking all the saiyans together to overwhelm and destroy him.
King kai invites the fighters to the otherworldly realm and asks them to represent him in a fighting tournament of beings from across the universe.  The fighters compete until cabbage and carrot stand as the finalist team, and are set to face the spirits of piccolo and broly, the champions of the lord of hell. Both sides eagerly prepare to battle, eager for a rematch.
The end.

How would you handle a sequel to Dragon ball super?
Hmm. Here’s an interesting one. Well, I don’t have a plan for a full series, but I do have a bunch of scattered ideas for one.
* It would be an EoZ follow up, taking place about 7 years after Goku left with Uub. During this time Goku resumed living at home at some point due to Chichi becoming pregnant with a now 3 or 4 year old daughter, but Uub is now capable of instant transmission so they’re still able to train together regularly regardless, and he’s more or less integrated himself into the Z fighters.
In this show, Uub and Pan would share the role of main protagonist, both striving to become as strong as Goku to protect the earth in his place someday (and so Goku can challenge them both once they’ve hit their peaks. Because Goku. Hey, don’t look at me like that, at the end of the series it’s pretty explicit that’s part of why Goku wants to train Uub).
Meanwhile, Bulla, Marron, Trunks and Goten would also be major supporting characters training alongside Uub and Pan to help defend the earth, while having their own character development and subplots going on. Goku, Vegeta, Gohan and etc would all be firmly in the role of mentors for most of the series, occasionally helping out in the case of a big threat to the universe. The rest of the Z fighters would still be around to various degrees of relevance, several of them also helping to train the next gen characters and teach them their techniques at various points, but Uub, Pan and the next gen characters are the main focus throughout.
* Majin Buu would basically follow his storyline from the Dragon ball Online/Xenoverse lore, creating himself a wife through some kind of weird magic and beginning to create a whole race of Majin’s. At the time the show starts, they would have one son who’s about 4 or 5 years old and is about the size of Kid Goku, and would be one of the next gen Z fighters, while Buu and his wife also have several dozen baby Majin’s to take care of, with help from dear uncle Satan of course.
* Pan and Bulla would become a couple at some point. Because the franchise could use some gay characters that aren’t minor one offs like Kakunsa and Vikal so far, or offensive stereotypes like General Blue. Also, because Vegeta’s reaction to his daughter dating Kakarot’s granddaughter would be HILARIOUS.
* Tien would still be teaching students at his dojo, many of whom are expert Ki users by now, while Krillin has taken over the reigns to the Turtle School of Martial Arts from Master Roshi, who left a while back on some sort of “spiritual journey” (Meaning he’s on a road trip around the world with Oolong trying to pick up chicks). He wouldn’t appear again until much later into the series, so for now Krillin is trying his hand at being a martial arts instructor, Marron being his prized student.
* Yamcha would have found a loving girlfriend and is living a happy life like he deserves already.
* Optional, but I might have Piccolo have become a father by this point with a child who has the potential to be as strong as he is, but is surprisingly meek and tranquil, to Piccolo’s awkward bemusement.
* In addition to being her personal trainer, Whis would have basically taken on the role of Bulla’s surrogate Uncle, having a surprisingly close relationship with her as they hang out on Beerus’s world all the time and Whis talks to Bulla about her personal life and helps her work through personal issues. Beerus would also have a soft spot for her, but tries very hard to hide it and pretend Bulla is a burden.
* Pan’s personality is basically a lot closer to her adorable EoZ self than her GT self. She would learn how to go super saiyan fairly early into the show, and ascend to super saiyan 2 either at the end of the first or second saga. She and Uub share a sibling like relationship, despite initially having a rocky start prior to the start of the show due to Pan being a tad jealous that Goku ran off so suddenly to train with Uub, but we get some flashback episodes at some point showing how they worked it out.
* Marron would basically be characterised as a cool big sis figure to Pan, Bulla, and other young characters like Goku and Chichi’s new daughter, Buu’s kid and Vegeta and Bulma’s new son (Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that?). She’s warm, expressive and friendly in similar ways to her father, but can be as intimidating as her mother when in a fight or when she’s in “Babysitter mode”. She starts the series off training under Krillin and 18, and has aspirations to be the first human member of the Galactic patrol, a role she acquires half way through the show after apprenticing under Jaco for a while.
* Launch by this point would be a minor recurring character married to Tien. The two of them have a young son who shares Launch’s split personality quirk.
* Uub’s family would be recurring minor characters in the show, and his village is thriving due to funding from Mr Satan.
* Gohan by this point is a successful scholar, and is also once again serving part time as the Great Saiyaman. Pan is the new Saiyagirl, and is just as much of a lovable dork as her dad when in character.
* The series would start with a number of episodes introducing and fleshing out each of the next gen cast and the current status quos of the old Z fighters and their allies, before moving into a saga that’s basically a dragon ball hunt. As a test, Goku tasks Uub, Pan and their friends (Sans Goten and Trunks, who had done a similar exercise before) with finding the Dragon Balls during summer break from school, without the use of their flying abilities so they have to hike around the world to find them by a certain date.
What they don’t know Is that Goku has set up a number of challenges along the way for the group to overcome. Nothing especially dangerous, but stuff that would give each of the new Z fighters their own difficult obstacles and opponents to overcome (part of which would involve calling in favours from some of his allies from other universes). Beerus however, who’s in on Goku’s test, decides by the end of it that his final challenge is a bit too tame (Read: Not guaranteed to get the kids brutally killed if they’re not careful enough), so basically goes behind Goku’s back and has Whis round up a group of the universes most dangerous super powered criminals to attack the young Z fighters, after making sure that Goku and the other high-tier Z fighters are off world at the time so they can’t find out quickly to deal with the situation themselves. Things work out after a huge struggle though.
This saga would mostly be a fun adventure story in the spirit of the original Dragon Ball and chock full of character building moments and interaction. Maybe some fun fanservice with the young Z fighters encountering some of the characters from the original Dragon Ball, like Suno and Android 8 (Heck, maybe throw in a Dr Slump crossover while we’re at it).
*Each saga would have a number of breather episodes between them, much like what Dragon Ball Super does, to further focus on supporting characters that don’t get as much limelight in the main sagas and also to just further flesh out our primary cast.
* The second saga would be a tournament arc, featuring another multiversal tournament. This scenario assumes all the universes that participated in the tournament of Power were revived, and that Goku convinced the Zen-oh’s to hold annual multiversal tournaments WITHOUT blinking anyone out of existence for stupid reasons.
However, the main thing to note is that there are actually TWO tournaments held annually, a Tournament of Power every two years featuring the absolute strongest fighters from each universe (Goku and friends, Toppo, Jiren and the Elite Pride Troopers, the Kamikaze Fireballs). And every year after it, there’s now another tournament meant for less experienced fighters from the various universes (Young Pride Trooper recruits and a young magical sidekick to Ribrianne in the vain of Chibiusa from Sailor Moon, for some examples).
Uub and the other next gen fighters compete as a team in this tournament, which is structured a bit more similarly to the World Tournaments from the original Dragon Ball except with whole teams competing together. This tournament would basically be a chance to introduce a bunch of new characters that’ll be more important later in the show, as well as re-introducing and catching up with established other universe characters from Super like the Universe 6 saiyans and Hit, Toppo, and the various Gods of the multiverse. It would also establish that there seems to be a feeling of discontent between the Gods of Destruction of the other universe, especially in regards to a newly appointed God for one of the universes that seems shady.
* A potential third arc would involve an invasion from the Demon Realm Dabura ruled over, possibly lead by his widowed wife who has a grudge against the Z fighters because she believes them and the Supreme Kai at least partially responsible for her husband’s death.
A notable thing that would happen during this saga is that the villain would use  a special kind of dark magic to effectively nerf most of the strongest Z fighters. Goku, Vegeta and Gohan would lose their ability to assess their super saiyan transformations and Gohan’s ultimate form for example. I suggest this mostly as a way to make sure there’s tension for later sagas so that when bigger threats start popping up, Uub, Pan and the other next gen characters can still be the main heroes of the story and Goku can’t just use his God forms to easily end all the conflicts himself.
The first half would basically be the main villain and a group of elite mooks scheming to find a way to break the barriers between realms so that an entire army of demons could invade universe 7, while the Z fighters try to stop her. But because Dabura’s wife is a chessmaster and a scheming genius, she basically plays them all to help her succeed in her goal, and the second half of the saga deals with the next gen characters and the weakened Z fighters all trying to repel the invasion and minimize damage. This saga would also feature cameos of various ally characters like Android 8, Upa and Bora, Korin and Yajirobe, Baba and her monster fighters, Jaco and the galactic patrol, namekian warriors and even minor villains like Master Shen and Tao Pai Pai fighting demons attacking various places around the earth and other parts of the universe.
The explanation for why Beerus isn’t around to deal with this situation is that he was in universe 6 challenging Champa to poker, and at some point the two ended up having a drinking contest that got them both so drunk they passed out for a month. Whis decided to hang out in universe 6 for the time being and catch up with Vados in the meantime, being unaware of what was going on in universe 7.
*At least one or more sagas would take place almost entirely in the other universes
And, that’s all I got for the time being. Might go back and add to this later for the fun of it. I just hope we get another EoZ sequel at some point for real, there’s SO MUCH potential for that era and the characters beyond that point, and I would HATE for GT to be the only show ever made taking place following this era because of how badly it screwed that all up.

Continuity Note: This story takes place about 1000 years before  66 years after the events of Dragon Ball Z.
Tumblr media
[21 April, Age 850.  Toki Toki City.]
The Demon God Demigra had seized control of Toki Toki City, and had nearly defeated the Time Patrol.  Of the three who remained, Trunks and the Supreme Kai of Time were in no shape to fight.   The third, Luffa, was wounded, and while she could still fight, she couldn't protect the others at the same time.  And then, just when they needed it the most, reinforcements arrived.
"Goku!" Chronoa called out.   "You're here!"
Luffa had met him before.  Before launching his invasion of Toki Toki City, Demigra had instigated a crisis on Planet Earth, during the era of Son Goku's lifetime.   Luffa had gone to intervene, but was surprised to discover that Goku had been deputized by the Time Patrol to help her.   The two of them planned to return to Toki Toki City together, but for some reason, only Luffa made it back.  Now, at last, Goku had arrived, and from the sound of things, the Supreme Kai of Time had been expecting him way.  That caught Luffa's attention.  Chronoa had planned all of this?
"Hey, Luffa.  Looks like I'm a little late," Goku said.   He never took his eyes off Demigra as he spoke.   "I'll take over from here, okay?"
Luffa didn't like handing things over to Goku, but she was in no position to object.   She was hurt, and while she could still fight, Goku was fresh, which made him the obvious choice to go on the offensive.  At least this way, Luffa could protect the others so he wouldn't be distracted the way she had been when Demigra got the drop on her.  She flew over to Chronoa, and watched Goku with great interest.
"You must be Demigra!" Goku said.   "You've gone far enough!"
"Goku?" Demigra said with disbelief.  "And what can you possibly do to stop me?"
Hovering in midair, Goku raised his hands into a defensive posture.   "I guess there's only one way to find out, isn't there?" he said confidently.
To Luffa's great surprise, Goku suddenly dropped his Super Saiyan form.   His hair reverted to its natural black color, and his power dropped considerably.   For a moment, she wondered if he had gotten hurt somehow, but then Goku and Demigra suddenly vanished, and there were only loud booms that echoed throughout the city as the two of them collided at super-speed.  Luffa could have monitored their movements, but she was too distracted by Chronoa holding Luffa's injured arm.   Whatever Goku's strategy was, she would have to let it play out.
"This isn't a lucky break," Luffa said.  "You brought Kakarot here somehow, at this exact moment."
"I keep a set of Dragon Balls handy in case of emergency," Chronoa said.   "When Demigra broke out of the Crack of Time, I summoned Shenron and made a wish of my own.  Now hold still..."
Luffa could feel Chronoa's healing power working on her arm.  She supposed that it had a similar principle to Demigra's self-healing ability, except that Chronoa's was empathic in nature.   To heal Luffa's injuries, Chronoa had to take the damage onto herself.   Luffa would have objected to this under normal circumstances, but in the middle of a battle, it seemed like the only available option.
"You should have healed Trunks instead," Luffa insisted.
"He told me to save it for you," Chronoa said.
"That's ridiculous," Luffa said.   "I just fought Trunks, and he was tougher than anyone I've ever faced.  Without Demigra's mind control slowing him down, he'd be unstoppable--"
"He told me you were stronger," Chronoa told her.   "I mean, I'd rather heal you both part-way, at least ease your pain, but he was sure that this would be the way to win, and I trust his judgment."
Luffa didn't know what to say to that.  "I thought he was kind of a blowhard, but I had him all wrong.  He really will do anything it takes to win this."
"That's right," Chronoa said.   Her voice was becoming more pained as she spoke, and Luffa could tell that the injuries were taking their toll on her.
"You can stop now.  That's enough," Luffa said.   Factually, it wasn't enough.   Her arm was in no shape to fight, but at least it was healed to the point where Luffa believed could protect it to some extent.
"Shut up and let me do this, will you?" Chronoa said through clenched teeth.  "I need you at one hundred percent, okay?"
"No you don't," Luffa said, "That's why you summoned Kakarot here, isn't it?   So he could step in and finish this guy off after I blew it.     But if I'm recovered enough, I can lend support and--"
"You're afraid, aren't you?" Chronoa said.
"What?"
"Not of Demigra, I mean.  You're worried about the rest of us," Chronoa said.  "You're worried something will happen to Trunks or me, or to the other Time Patrollers.  Or that you'll die before the end of the fight, leaving us in a lurch.  Is that it?"
"There's nothing to worry about," Luffa said.  "I've seen Kakarot in action, and at this level, he can cover this.  I just need to warn him about Demigra's magic, but--"
"I knew we might need an ace up our sleeve," Chronoa said.  "Something Demigra wouldn't expect.  The reason we never asked Goku for help was because the changes in history were during his own lifespan, and that made it risky.   But I decided to make an exception to help you out in West City, so I deputized him into the Time Patrol, but that's not why I brought him here."
"Then why?" Luffa asked.
"I left Goku a scroll he could use to travel to the Time Nest, but I wanted him to show up at the moment we needed him the most.  You can't really use the Scroll of Eternity for that kind of fine tune work, so I used the Dragon Balls to help.   I wished for Shenron to make the scroll bring Goku here at the moment we needed him the most.   Which is now."
"Well sure," Luffa said.  "It's a good plan."
"No, it was just a failsafe," Chronoa said.   "You're the plan, Luffa.  Trunks and I trusted Shenron to send us a worthy ally.   And now... unf!... now we trust you.    You can do this.  We know you can.  And I think you know it too."
"You don't get it," Luffa said.  "I've screwed up before.  I've overestimated myself and good people suffered for it."
Once Chronoa's powers had sufficiently eased the pain, Luffa began watching Goku's movements, her green eyes darting side-to-side as she followed his movements.  "He's good," Luffa said.  "I think he's about as strong as me, but it's not just power.  His motions are so precise, so fluid.  I can see why Trunks was uneasy about me.  If this was the hero he expected, I can understand why he'd call me reckless."
"Goku's a great fighter, sure," Chronoa said, "but he's not the one who defeated Towa for us, or got us this far against Demigra. You're still the one we need, Luffa."
At last, Chronoa's work was finished, and Luffa found herself completely healed.  She looked back at the Kai and found her gripping her own left arm and wincing the same way Luffa had done moments ago.   It shamed Luffa to see her own injuries on Chronoa's body.   It was a living testament to her shortcomings as a warrior.  It infuriated Luffa, in a way that none of her enemies ever could.
"All right," Luffa said as she rose to her feet.  "If you're so sure I can win, I'll do it."
But as she rose into the air, she noticed Demigra glancing down at Chronoa, and then he raised his hand and smiled.
"Dammit!" Luffa shouted.  She picked up speed, but it was still too late.  Goku was caught in a field of purple fog, the same spell that had nearly enslaved Luffa before he arrived.
As much as she wanted to fight Son Goku, this was not the time or the place.  She could already see his body begin to stiffen as Demgira's magic immobilized him.  Trunks had saved her from the mind control spell, and Chronoa had used her own powers to free her body, but now both of them were too badly hurt to do that again.   It was up to Luffa this time, but she didn't know if she could make it before it was too late.  She could see the filament of magic power lancing out from Demigra's hand, reaching for Goku's heart. It was so much faster than it had seemed when it had been happening to her.   But just when she was close enough to strike--
It shattered.  The evil line simply cracked apart like a thin rod of ice.   The pieces floated in mid-air for a moment, then evaporated into an arcane mist, and then disappeared completely.
Surprised, Luffa looked to Demigra, who was somehow even more amazed.
"What?!" he growled.  "Impossible!"
She looked back at Goku, who was still immobilized in the purple fog.  If he had somehow blocked the mind-control spell, it had no effect on the other spell that held him in place.  He looked more confused than concerned.
Demigra tried again, but the result was the same.   And just as Luffa was about to take matters into her own hands, Goku vanished from the sphere of purple fog.  Before Luffa could wonder what happened to him, she saw him floating beside her, as though he had been there the whole time.
"Don't worry," Goku assured her.  "I'm all right.  But what the heck was that all about?"
"He tried to brainwash you," Luffa said.  "The way he did to Frieza and your boys back on Earth."
"Really?" Goku said.  He looked at his hands and blinked a few times with a perplexed expression.  "I don't feel like workin' for Demigra. Are you sure that's how it works?"
"He tried it on me before you got here," Luffa said with a sharp nod.   "Sorry, but I didn't get a chance to warn you about that."
He looked at her with a friendly smile.  "Hey, it's okay.  You had a lot to deal with.  Besides, that thing he used to hold my body still doesn't seem to stop me from usin' Instant Transmission."
Demigra was understandably furious.  He had been holding his own against Goku so far, but it was apparent that he had been waiting for this chance, only to have it go up in smoke.  "Goku...?  What a cursed man!" he snarled.   "Why won't my godly magic work on you?!"
"You must be running out of juice, Demigra," Luffa taunted.  "Kakarot wasn't even transformed, and you still couldn't snag him!"
"Impossible!" Demigra shouted.  "My power is growing with each second!  Why?!"
Goku put his hand to his chin and rolled his eyes thoughtfully.   "Huh.  I don't know either," he said as he genuinely considered the problem.   "I mean, it didn't work on Luffa either, though, right?"
"Only because Trunks intervened," Luffa said.  "But Demigra used it on Trunks before that, and I had to beat him senseless before I could snap him out of it."
Goku looked down at Trunks, who was still lying in the golden sands at the bottom of the hourglass.  Chronoa knelt beside him, doing  what she could to ease his suffering.  "Gosh," Goku said.  "I noticed he was all beat up, but I thought that was Demigra's doing.  No, I guess that couldn't work.  Demigra's not nearly tough enough to beat Trunks by himself."
"You insolent--!" Demigra roared, but Luffa cut him off.
"Why are we just floating here trying to suss this out?!" she demanded.
"Well, it's important," Goku insisted.  "Look, Demigra, you just said your power keeps increasing, so you must have been weaker when you fought Trunks, and Luffa took Trunks down, so that gives me a general idea of how strong you both would have been.  You don't have to get all offended about it."
He continued to stroke his chin as he contemplated the matter, which began to irritate Luffa, until she noticed how much it was enraging Demigra.  Then she began to enjoy the spectacle.
"And it worked on Vegeta and the boys too," Goku said. "But not me.  Well, it might be... I don't know... it might be because I became a god once.  A god like you.  Maybe that might be why."
"Yamoshi's ritual," Luffa said.  "Lord Beerus said your body somehow remembered that divine power, even after the god form wore off.  But you're nowhere near that strong right now..."
"You're right," Goku said.  "I can still tap into a little of that god power when I'm a Super Saiyan, but I wanted to hold back while I got a handle on what Demigra could do.  But maybe it's got more to do with the ritual than the power it gave me.   I'm not sure of any of it, I'm just thinkin' out loud, you know?"
"Maybe you've got something there," Luffa said.  "The ritual itself might have more to it than just power.   And you're probably the first Saiyan to use it since Yamoshi's day."
"Was that the guy's name?" Goku asked.  "Shenron told us the story, but he didn't say who it was."
"He was one of the old heroes of Saiyan legend," Luffa said.  "Maybe the first, but our folklore gets kind of murky that far back."
In spite of the situation, she felt a chill of excitement as she explained this to Goku.  By her own reckoning the old heroes of Saiyan folklore were all Super Saiyans like herself and Son Goku.  To discuss that lineage with another member of it was something special, even if she was the only one who could appreciate it.
"That must be it.  A Super Saiyan God!   Curses!"
Luffa had not forgotten Demigra, but she had been pretending to ignore him while chatting with Goku.   He now gripped his scepter tighter and his face twisted into a resentful grimace as he spoke.
"Something wrong with that, Demigra?" Luffa asked innocently.
"He's probably sore because he knew he couldn't beat me without switchin' me over to his side," Goku said.  "He kept checking on you and the Supreme Kai of Time the whole time we were fighting, like he was waiting for something to happen.  And well... you saw it for yourself, right?"
Luffa nodded.  "I did," she said.   "Even if he managed to get past you, I could have handled him.  His only chance was to turn the two of us against each other.   Now that we know he can't control you, his only chance is to try to enslave me, and that won't be happening again."
"Don't you dare underestimate me!" Demigra screamed.  "You've done well to last this long against me, and Chronoa was very shrewd to bring Goku here for reinforcement, but I am a god now, and you will fall before me!   Your immunity to my magic will only prolong your agony!"
"You're no god, Demigra," Luffa said.  "And even if you were, it won't win this fight.   I'll prove it to you.  Hey, Kakarot.  Take a breather."
"Huh?" Goku asked.   "You want to jump back in already?  But I was just starting to get into this."
"I've got a score to settle with this bastard," Luffa said.  "He only got the drop on me because he tried to attack the others as a distraction, but now you're here to protect them while I fight.  And I don't want him to die thinking that it took another god to kill him."
"Well, okay," Goku said.  "Just let me know if you want to switch out again."
"I won't," Luffa assured him, "but thanks anyway."
Goku descended to meet the Kai, while Luffa faced off with Demigra, who began to laugh.
"You truly are hopeless!" he said.   "Working together, the two of you might have had a chance, but now--!"
"Vengeance Cannon," Luffa said, though she didn't move.
"What?" Demigra snapped.
"I just wanted to tell you it was coming," Luffa said.   She held up her let hand, brushing her forehead with the index and middle fingers, and then pointed them at Demigra, mimicking the technique.   "You saw me use it before when I fought Trunks, right?  The red laser beam I shoot?   That's what I call it."
"You've gone mad with terror," Demigra said, shaking his head.
"No, I'm just calling my shot.  It's kind of dumb how fighters will call out the names of their best moves.  At best, it's overconfident, and at worst it just warns the enemy ahead of time.  But I think it keeps me sharp.  I try to make sure I only say it when I'm sure the enemy can't do anything about it."
"Is that so?" Demigra asked.  "And what makes you think I need to do anything about your pitiful techniques?  You've seen how easily I can reverse the damage you inflict upon me."
"I have," Luffa said.   "But I also watched you fighting Kakarot in his base form, and you couldn't lay a hand on him.  I think I've got you figured out, Demigra, which means I can put a hole in your miserable body whenever I please, and you can't do a damn thing about it."
"Then I shall just have to demonstrate how wrong you are!" Demigra shouted.
Luffa held out her hand, and for the briefest of instants, Demigra tensed up, expecting some new attack.  Instead, she simply curled in her fingers, beckoning him to come to her.
"Show me," she said.  "If you think you can."
Demigra seemed eager to attack, but then he relaxed his posture and smirked at her.  "Ah, Luffa," he said.   "You really are quite a fascinating warrior.   You'll make a fine addition to my Time Patrol.  You might even enjoy it."
"Try it," Luffa said.  "I dare you."
"No," Demigra said.  "Not before I prove that you were never a match for me.   You're too much like Trunks.  I'll have to break you before I can build you up again into the kind of servant I need."
He attacked, and Luffa did not fight back.   She only dodged his scepter when he swung it at her, or when he released it to attack her on its own.   When that didn't work, he aimed the scepter at her like a rifle, and fired a barrage of energy bolts, as he had done before.  Luffa dodged these as well, and swatted a few of them aside to clear a path for herself to move.
Below, Chronoa and Goku watched the fight with great interest.
"Yeah, she picked up on it, too," Goku said.  "Boy, you weren't kidding, Supreme Kai of Time.  She really is something else."
"Are you sure she doesn't need any help?" Chronoa asked.  "I've got my Potara earrings.  You could use them to fuse together, or--"
"Nah, she'd never go for that," Goku said.  "Maybe if Trunks wasn't hurt, I might try doing Fusion with him, but Luffa wouldn't want to double-team a guy like that.  When we fought everybody back on Earth, she kept her distance from me, like she wanted to make sure we didn't get in each other's way.  And she was really careful with my kids, too.  She's... I don't know... there's somethin' polite about the way she fights."
"Polite?" Chronoa asked.  "I didn't think anyone would use that word to describe Luffa."
"Well, sure, she talks real tough and she's cranky," Goku said, "but I can see it in her posture.  Heck, this is the second time I've showed up to help her out of a jam, but she keeps checking to make sure we're all right.   There, she just did it again."
"Did what?" Chronoa asked.  "I didn't see anything."
"I guess it's kind of tough to spot if you don't know what to look for," Goku said.  "My oldest boy, Gohan, he'd keep worrying about everyone around him when he fought, unless he got good and angry.  It took me a while to get him to loosen up, so I've gotten good at spotting it.   Luffa covers it well, but you can tell she's a softie.  I respect that... a lot.  That's why I won't interfere with her fight."
"So why didn't you turn into a Super Saiyan when you were fighting him?" Chronoa asked.  "You might have beaten him yourself."
"I was getting a handle on his moves," Goku said.   "Demigra's strong right now, but he's not much of a fighter.  I guess Trunks never got a chance to figure that out.   He likes to finish a fight as quickly as he can, so he never got a chance to study Demigra's movements.  And Luffa's really aggressive, so she was probably too busy trying to hurt Demigra to pick up on it, but now?  Yeah, I think she's got the pattern down.  The one thing I don't understand is why she's puttin' out so much power.  You'd think she'd wear herself out fighting like that.  The Super Saiyan form takes a lot out of you."
"She does that a lot," Chronoa said.   "Apparently she has trouble turning it off sometimes."
Goku smiled.  "Is that so?" he said.  "I guess I'll have to keep that in mind..."
*******
Above Toki Toki City, Demigra continued to attack Luffa, only to find that he couldn't connect.   Nor did Luffa land any blows on him.  She simply kept moving, letting him come after her, and then dismantling any offensive he could come up with.
"Curse me for a novice," Luffa said.  "I should have seen it for myself, Demigra, but I guess Trunks and I were too close to the problem to pick up on it."
Demigra was beginning to get flustered.  He continued to fight at the same pace, with the same disciplined movements, but the lack of progress was taking its toll on his patience.   On top of that, the fingers on Luffa's left hand kept glowing brighter as she charged them with energy for the Vengeance Cannon she had promised him.
"You haven't seen anything!" he shouted.  "I'll bring you to heel soon enough!  And then--"
A wild swing with his scepter might have caught Luffa in the ribs, but she avoided it at the last possible moment.  She spun around and nearly struck him with a backfist, only to stop short and tap him gently on the forehead with her knuckles instead.
"You are powerful, Demigra, but you've got no head for fighting," Luffa explained.   "You count on all those magic tricks and the time-warping stuff to beat your enemies, but you don't have any finesse at shooting ki blasts or setting someone up for a kick to the face.   Oh, you're not completely hopeless, but I would have thought a guy like you could do much better.   You've had seventy-five million years to practice!"
"Shut up!" Demigra screamed.
"But you were cooped up all by yourself in the Crack of Time," Luffa went on.  "Maybe you conjured up one of your mirage-selves to spar with, but that only gets you so far.  You've gotten into a rut, and it's made your fighting moves so predictable that anyone could keep up with you once they know the routine.  Maybe if you were a little stronger, you'd be more of a challenge but as it is..."
"You arrogant slime!" Demigra shouted.  His insults were the only thing that reached her, for his scepter could not.  "You only managed this well because you had your friends to save you, but with Chronoa down, there's no one to stop me from immobilizing you again!"
"And that's why I wanted Kakarot to step aside!" Luffa said.  "That teleportation trick of his is very impressive, but I couldn't let him steal my thunder!  I have to prove that if he can beat your mind control combination, that I can too!  But you're too cowardly to try it!"
Demigra began to fight more erratically now, but this only made him sloppier, and even easier for Luffa to anticipate.  And then, at last, he vanished, and began to flicker into sight, appearing and disappearing all around the City.   Luffa kept her guard up and chuckled.
"Well then," she said, "maybe you've got some guts after all."
"You're finished!" Demigra cried as he suddenly appeared behind Luffa's shoulder.  His free hand was raised, and Luffa could already see the purple fog coalescing around her.  Her limbs began to stiffen as she felt the same power forcing her to put her arms at her sides.
But before that power could take hold, she managed to spin around and point her left hand at Demigra.   And while her muscles were becoming less responsive, she still had enough control to release the ki she had already built up into her fingers.
"Gotcha," Luffa said.
As Demigra realized his mistake, his eyes went wide with terror.  The crimson beam leapt from her fingertips and collided with the purple filament that snaked out from Demigra's palm.   Unchecked, the mystic filament would have struck Luffa's chest, and enthralled her to Demigra's will.
Instead, the filament collided head-on with the beam of the Vengeance Cannon, and was ripped apart like a thread of silk in a blast furnace.
The crimson beam continued on, tearing through Demigra's open palm.
And on, running parallel to his arm, until it reached his head.
Then through his skull, leaving a small hole just above his right eye, through his brain, and then out the back, singing a patch of his fiery red hair.
Demigra's eyes stared forward at Luffa, his face still transfixed in shock.  He hung in midair, like a fly suspended in amber.
"Good luck trying to reverse that damage, Demigra," Luffa said.  "I don't know how your magic works, but I'm pretty sure you can't work your spells without the use of that hand, or the chunk of brain I just bored out.  But just in case..."
She swooped in and punched him in the gut, then worked over his back, head, and neck.  Demigra did nothing to defend himself, nor was there any sign that he was aware of what was happening to him.   At last, whatever kept him afloat in the air gave out under Luffa's vicious assault, and he began to drop.   Luffa flew down after him, landing a double-stomp on his back to hasten his landing.
He fell to the wreckage of the giant hourglass that once floated in the center of the City.  The pile of golden sand broke his fall.  Demigra lay face up in the sand, oblivious to the world around him, and the beating he had just taken.
Nearby, Goku and Chronoa watched the fallen Demigra with growing concern.
"I can still sense a lot of ki in Demigra's body," Goku said.  "Even after all that, I don't think he's beaten yet."
"You're right," Chronoa said.  "The chronal tides around his body are still shifting!  However he reverses the flow of time around his injuries, he must be able to do it without consciously thinking about it!   Look!"
She pointed at Demigra with her good arm, and she and Goku saw Demigra's wounds receding like melting snow.   It was taking longer than it had before, due to the damage Luffa had inflicted upon him, but he would be restored to perfect health in only a matter of moments.   There seemed to be nothing anyone could do about it.
"No, you don't, you son of a--!"
Then they looked up, and saw Luffa floating over them, with a large chunk of brass from the wrecked cogwheels of the giant hourglass structure.   Luffa raised it over her head, then dove down at Demigra, and threw it ahead of her as she reached the bottom.   There was a sharp, jagged end to the fragment, and this tore through Demigra's abdomen as it impaled him.
Demigra's half-healed hand reached out and curled its fingers, as though straining against something, but then his arm went limp, and fell back into the sand.
Luffa alighted next to Goku and Chronoa.
"I figured if I attacked him while he was in the middle of healing himself, it would screw things up for him," she said.  If he reverses one injury, he'll have to let one of the other injuries go forward, or something like that."
"Well, it's a little more complex than that," Chronoa said, "but it'll definitely make things harder for him."
"Nice work, Luffa," Goku said.  "His energy is dropping like a stone now.   I think you might have beaten him for good this time!"
"Just the same, I'm not taking my eyes of this bastard until I know for sure," Luffa said.   "How's Trunks?"
Chronoa turned to find him slowly rising to his feet.
"Hey, great!" Goku said.  "You were able to heal him too, then?"
"No," Chronoa said, "I haven't!   Trunks, you should really lie down!"
She rushed to his side, although the wounds on her left arm slowed her down.   While the Kai attended to Trunks, Luffa and Goku admired his resilience.
"Not bad," Luffa said.  "He's one tough customer."
"Yeah, he sure is," Goku said.  "With you two working on her side, I know the Supreme Kai of Time won't have any trouble from here."
"What.... h-happened?" Trunks asked.
"Demigra's beaten!  We did it!" Chronoa cheered.
"We actually did it..." Trunks said wearily.   "We did it!"    Then he began to lose his footing, but Chronoa steadied him before he could fall.
"I'm sorry..." Trunks said.
"Don't be," Chronoa said.  "Just try to take it easy, okay?"
She helped him to a sitting position, and Trunks looked around to find Demigra's prone body, with Luffa standing guard over him.   Then he finally noticed Goku.
"Hey, Trunks!"  Goku said with a friendly wave.   "Long time, no see!"
"Oh, hey, Goku," Trunks said.  Then to Chronoa he asked: "How did he get mixed up in this?"
"I thought we might need some extra help in case things got out of hand," Chronoa said.   "So I found Goku at the moment in time where Demigra sent the bad guys to attack West City, and deputized him into the Time Patrol."
"I see.   But...doesn't that cause a change in history?" Trunks asked.   "If you restore the timeline to the original sequence of events, then Goku will never have been here to help us fight Demigra, and--"
"You're right," Chronoa said, "but that's why I had to do it.   I knew Demigra was planning this for a long time, and that he'd try to anticipate every contingency, so I decided the best way to beat him would be to do something I'd normally never try, something that he wouldn't expect."
"Then that means you'll have to leave the changes in," Trunks said.   Goku and Luffa's battle in West City will become part of history."
"Yep.  I guess I ended up committing the same crime you did when you first went back in time to warn Goku about the heart virus," Chronoa admitted.  "So it looks like I'll have to join the Time Patrol the same way you did."
"It's not so bad," Trunks said.  He smiled in spite of the pain he was in and winked at her.  "My supervisor in the Time Patrol is pretty cool.  When I see her, I'll put in a good word."
As they shared a laugh, Goku approached Luffa.
"Hey, aren't you gonna change back?" Goku asked.   He gestured to her glowing yellow hair, as though there was any chance that he might possibly be referring to something else.
"Not yet," Luffa said.  "Demigra might still try something."
"Well, sure, but you can always transform again if he does," Goku suggested.
"I could, but there's no need," Luffa said.
"I guess, but doesn't it tire you out, bein' a Super Saiyan for so long?"
"Are you saying it does wear you out, Kakarot?" Luffa asked with a smirk.  "If you need to take a nap, go right ahead.  I've got it covered."
"Okay, okay," Goku said, holding up his hands.   "I was just asking."
"So... Where's Tokitoki?" Trunks asked.
"That jerk Demigra swallowed him!" Chronoa said.  "We have to get him out."
"You heard the Kai, Demigra," Luffa said in a particularly vicious tone.   "Cough him up while you still can.  Otherwise, I'll just have to rip you apart until I find him myself!"
"Luffa, wait!" Chronoa yelled.
"Oh, fine," Luffa said.  "If that's too gory for you, I suppose I can cut the bastard open with Trunks' sword.  How about it, Demigra?"
As she approached Demigra, his body began to stir, and then a crimson aura flared up around him.  He levitated and rose to a standing position, with a wrathful glare in his eyes.
"How dare you?!" Demigra said.
Luffa and Goku prepared to renew their battle, but instead of attacking, Demigra simply raised his scepter, and angrily tapped it on the sand.   Then he suddenly vanished.
"What the hell is he pulling now?!" Luffa shouted.
"Did he just run away?!" Trunks asked.
"No," Chronoa said.  "He wouldn't give up that easily."
As they spoke, Goku raised his left hand and touched his index and middle fingers to his forehead.   He stood quietly for a moment, then shouted. "Found him!  Grab on to me!"
"Of course!" Luffa said.   She rushed back to his side, where Trunks and Chronoa had already taken hold of Goku's arm.   She placed her own hand on his back and said: "Nice work, Kakarot.  That teleportation trick of yours definitely comes in handy--"
And then they were gone.
*******
As soon as the four of them materialized, Trunks dropped to his knees, and Chronoa was so concerned about him that she didn't realize where they were.
For Son Goku, this was his first time in this location.   He glanced around, anxiously searching for Demigra.   "He's here somewhere, I'm sure of it," Goku said.   "Whatever this place is..."
So it fell to Luffa to explain it to him.   "This is the Time Vault, Kakarot," she said.  "But... why would Demigra hide in here?  There's nothing here but the..."
Now Chronoa finally realized it too, and she seemed to understand the implications better than Luffa.  "Oh no..." she said.   "He wouldn't!"
A wind blew around the atrium of the Time Vault, and they could all see streaks of purple light circling around them like a ghostly whirlpool.  As they sensed the source of the dark energy in the room, they all looked up and found...
"How can this be...?"
High above them, Demigra floated, surrounded on all sides by the cabinets that stored the multitude of scrolls that made up the Scroll of Eternity.  He began to wave his scepter furiously, like a conductor guiding the purple tempest around him.
"Damn this despicable world!  I'll destroy it all!"
"What are you doing?!" Chronoa shouted to him.  "Are you insane?!  If you destroy the Time Vault, everything will disappear -- gone forever!  It means you'll die as well!"
"Hmmph... Fool!   You think I'm not aware of that?!   After everything is destroyed, I'll make a new history.   MY history!"
Suddenly, there appeared around him dozens of copies of his scepter, only they were blood red, and glowing ominously.
"What?" Chronoa asked.  "What do you mean by that?  What are you thinking?"
"A new history?" Luffa asked.   "Can he do that?"
As she contemplated the question, Son Goku simply took action.   He transformed in an instant, and leaped into the air as a Super Saiyan, his ki increasing drastically as he ascended.   Goku raised his right hand, curling it up into a fist as he prepared to strike...
But Demigra simply smirked.   With a spiteful 'harrumph', he flung his hands forward, and the crimson scepters all pointed down at his enemies, and launched themselves at their targets like an accursed hailstorm.
During that instant, Luffa also leaped after Demigra, following Goku's lead.   They managed to dodge some of the energy spears, but there were too many of them, and one finally went through Luffa's chest.   As she fell to the ground, four more of them embedded themselves into the floor of the Time Vault, mystically pinning her arms and legs to the ground.
This did not escape Goku's notice, and in the split second he turned to see what happened to her, a scepter caught him in the shoulder, followed by a few more that hit his limbs.   Soon he was on the floor beside Luffa, and his hair turned black as he reverted to base form.
Luffa's Super Saiyan transformation ended as well, though she continued to flash back and forth a few times, as if her body were protesting against the effects of the debilitating magic.  As she struggled, Chronoa ran to her side, but there seemed to be nothing she could do.
As she knelt beside Luffa, the Time Vault echoed with the howls of the arcane wind, mixed with Demigra's triumphant laughter.
"Everything!!" he shouted.   "Begone!"
Luffa saw Chronoa stand up and face her ancient nemesis one more time.  It was getting harder for her to keep her head up.  At last, her head slumped over to her right side, and  Luffa could only see the Kai's white boots as Chronoa made her last stand.
"Demigraaaa!" Chronoa shouted, as Luffa saw Goku lying helplessly beside her.   Desperate to do something-- anything -- Luffa continued to look around, and spotted a scroll lying near her head.   And in the maelstrom, she thought she heard something like a bird's cry.   But it couldn't have been Tokitoki, she thought.
And then, the world faded to black, and Luffa succumbed to oblivion.
*******
 [??????????]
Luffa awoke to a bright white light.  It reminded her of the experience she felt when the Scroll of Eternity transported her through time for Time Patrol missions.  As she opened her eyes, she found only a dark blue sky, like twilight.   Aurorae rippled through the sky like ribbons of pale blue light.   When she realized she could move again, she rose to her feet, and took in her surroundings.
It was a formless void.   She was standing upon a rough white surface, which seemed to go on forever.   At the horizon, there was a white light along the edge, and the sky was greener there.  Luffa had been to many alien worlds in her lifetime, but this one seemed to be stranger than any she had seen.   She began to doubt that this was even a "world" at all.   There was gravity, and she could breathe, but something told her that this was no mere planet.
Uneasily, she took a few steps forward as she considered exploring this place, but there was nothing to see.   Just an endless expanse with no landmarks or signs of life.
"Am I dead?" she said aloud, mostly to see if she could still speak or hear.   The silence was profound, and it wasn't until she heard her own voice that she realized just how unnerving it was.
The answer to her question came in the form of the aches and pains in her body.  She looked down at her hands and saw the dust and blood on her fingers.   She wasn't exhausted, not yet, but she had been fighting a lot of opponents recently, and she still felt the effort she had put into those battles.
"All right, so I'm alive," she said, mostly to distract herself from the silence.   "So where am I?"
The last thing she remembered was Demigra's threat to destroy history itself.  Had he made good on that threat?  Was this void all that remained of the universe?  Had she somehow been spared?
"That can't be right," Luffa said.  "Everyone, everything, it's all been erased, and I'm all that's left?  I'm just stuck here?  Alone?"
It was too horrific to contemplate.   If she really was the sole survivor of time and space, then there was nothing to do, no battles to fight.   No one to fight for.
Nothing to eat.
"Hell," Luffa said.  "Nothing to drink.  I'll die of thirst long before I have to worry about starvation or boredom."
But was death a release from this predicament?  The thought sent a chill down her spine.  If Demigra really destroyed everything, then didn't that include death itself?   What if she couldn't die?  What would that mean?
As the implications of these questions brought her to the brink of despair, Luffa's hands began to tremble.
"No..." she said.  "It's not going to end this way.  It can't."
She dropped to her knees and tucked her hands into her armpits.  Her whole body began to shake.   She transformed, naturally.  The entire experience reminded her of the first time, years ago, on the Tikosi Hiveworld.  The battle had ended, and her bloody vengeance was wrought, and there was nothing left to do, and she couldn't turn it off.  And then Dr. Topsas had come to her side, and held her trembling hand and waited with her until she calmed down.
But this time there was no Dr. Topsas.  No Tikosi Hiveworld.   Nothing.   No one.   Nowhere.
And finally, as she began to feel her sanity slipping away, she noticed something in the corner of her eye.   It was a dark object lying in the endless white field, just a few meters away.
The scroll.
She didn't know if it was the same one she had seen before blacking out in the Time Vault.  For that matter, maybe it made no difference.   According to the Supreme Kai of Time, there was only one Scroll of Eternity, and all of the multitude of scrolls stored in the Time Vault were one and the same. Luffa rushed to fetch the scroll like a starving animal racing towards a crumb of bread.   Whatever it was, however it was here, this was the only other thing left in the universe.  It had to mean something.
It was all that was left.
Luffa unfurled the scroll, and looked at its parchment, which shone with a bright white light as it revealed its record...

[21 April, Age 850.  Toki Toki City.]
"Welcome back, Time Patroller.  It seems you're late."
Luffa had left Toki Toki City at its peak strength.  The city was on high alert in anticipation of an invasion by the Supreme Kai of Time's old enemy, the Demon God Demigra.
Now, Luffa returned from her mission to find Toki Toki City in ruins.   The streets were deserted, and the skies were blood red.   The enormous hourglass that loomed over the center of the City was broken, surrounded by fragments of the huge brass gears which turned in place around it.  And there, waiting for her above the wreckage of the glass was Demigra himself, with the look of a man who had already won.
"Demigra..." Luffa called out in a resentful voice.   "I knew you'd make your play while I was gone, but I didn't think you'd get this far.   What have you done with the others?"
"They're safe enough for now," Demigra said.  "My conflict was with Chronoa, and it's just been settled in my favor.   I have no quarrel with the rest of you."
"Settled?" Luffa asked.   "Then Tokitoki...!"
Demigra gestured toward his torso, hinting at the answer to her question.   "Tokitoki is in my hands," he said.   "His power is mine.  I'm a new god now.   One that controls all of time... and all of space..."
Luffa looked around at the Time Plaza.  It was a shambles.
"Seems to me," she said, "That you can't even control one city, Demigra."
He laughed as he floated down to the street to speak with her face to face.  "Your criticism is noted," Demigra said.   "I do have some tidying up to do.  I seem to have inherited quite a mess from the previous administration.  I can see why Chronoa found the Time Patrol to be so useful.  But with your help, Luffa, I'm sure we can rebuild it even greater than ever before."
Luffa stared at him incredulously.  "'We'?" she asked, lingering on the word like someone holding a moldy piece of fruit at arm's length.
"That's right," Demigra said.  "You and I."
"Maybe you hit your head on something while you were busy becoming a 'new god'," Luffa said with a derisive snort.   "We're enemies, Demigra.  You sent those creeps back in time to screw with history, and I went back to stop them, and then I came here to stop you. There is no 'we', Demigra."
He shot her an unctuous smile before he turned and strolled down the street.   "You need time to adjust, Luffa," he said.  "I can understand that.   A lot has happened while you've been gone.  But the conflict between us is over.  Your former master has been deposed.  I am the overseer of time now.  Whatever arrangements you had with the Kai are null and void."
"You're joking," Luffa said.
"If I considered you an enemy, Luffa," Demigra said, "then why did I allow you to return here after your mission was completed?"
"You didn't," Luffa said. "I was... wait..."
She was about to say that Chronoa had brought her back to the Time Nest with the Scroll of Eternity, but there was no one at the Time Nest when she finally returned.  There was a scroll Luffa had tried to use to send herself back to the Time Nest.   According to Son Goku and King Kai, it had been left with them by Chronoa.   But when Luffa had tried to use it, she couldn't make it work.  She returned to the Time Nest a moment later, but she had no way of knowing if the scroll on King Kai's planet had helped with that or not.
"It was I," Demigra said.   "You were sent on your mission by a particular iteration of the Scroll of Eternity, one which was still in the Time Nest when I seized control of this facility.   No other scroll would be able to bring you back, and I can promise you that you would not be allowed into my city unless I allowed it.  So I ask you: Why would I bring you here if I considered you a threat?"
"You think I'd switch sides," Luffa asked, "just like that?"
"No, I don't," Demigra replied.  "Not without some negotiation.  Then again, you were quick to agree to Chronoa's terms, weren't you?  She brought you here against your will, and asked you to help her defend time.   In exchange, you received... what, exactly?  Room and board?"
"They saved my life," Luffa said.  "I owed them one."
"Did you?" Demigra said.  "And were they planning to send you back to your own time when your tour of duty was finished?  Back to your Federation and your friends?   The talking spider and that hairy fellow?"
"I... How the hell do you know about any of that?" Luffa demanded.
"I've been preparing for this day for seventy-five million years," Demigra said.   "In the Crack of Time, there is little else to do except watch and plan.   When I learned that Trunks had wished for an ally to help him, I made it my business to learn all that there was to know about her.   About you."
"Funny," Luffa said.  "Early on, you acted like you barely noticed me.  All you cared about was your grudge with the Supreme Kai of Time."
"It took me some time to digest the information I gathered," Demigra said.  "Besides, you're correct.  All I cared about was my grudge with Chronoa.  Until that was settled, I had little interest in her warriors.   But you're a mercenary, Luffa, and you now find yourself between jobs.  And I am a newly born god, grander than any before me.   I have need of talented agents and enforcers.  And I have the means to pay them well."
"I think you're forgetting about a commitment I made to Lord Beerus," Luffa said.   "He wants you wiped out from existence, and I offered to handle that for him.  If I reneged on that, he'd probably take that personally..."
"Beerus is no longer a threat to me," Demigra said with a laugh.  "And if you pledge yourself to me, he will be no threat to you either.   Think of it.  A universe at your disposal.   Your own personal training ground, to increase your strength to its absolute limit.  No one would dare stand against you.  And in exchange for your services, you could have unfettered access to your own time.  You could resume your past life as you please, or set yourself up as a queen of some interstellar empire.   Or if you prefer, I could confer divine authority upon you."
"That's ridiculous," Luffa said.  "Even if you could do all of that, you can't expect me to believe it."
"We can work that out in a more detailed negotiation stage," Demigra said smoothly.   "The truth is, I still have to sort out my own plans for this role, so I would need time to decide just what it is  I need from you.   For now, I only propose a temporary agreement until we can establish formal terms."
Luffa looked around at the war-torn City, then back at Demigra.   "I have to admit," she said, "you do make it sound very lucrative.   And it's not like I have anywhere else to go.  I was going to wait until we settled things with you before I decided what to do next, but I guess that day is here, isn't it?  Time flies when you're having fun, huh?"
Demigra chuckled amicably and put his arm around Luffa's shoulder.  "I had a feeling you would see this as an opportunity.   So then.  Would you like to work for me?  You can live like a god.   Everything you ever wanted would be yours!"
Luffa looked up at him and smiled pleasantly.  Then she grabbed his arm and flung him into what was left of the hourglass floating above the city.
To his credit, Demigra recovered quickly, and he righted himself in time to glare down at Luffa.
He was just in time to see her turn her head and spit on the ground.
"You think I just side with the highest bidder?!" she shouted.   "You think I only fight for the money?!   Hah!  You stupid bastard!  You don't know a damn thing about me, but don't worry.  I'll bring you up to speed right now."
"What a waste of talent," Demigra said.  "But at least you've proven yourself to be unhireable.   Even if you could be convinced to join me, I could never trust anyone so volatile."
"Trust this!" Luffa shouted.  She rocketed through the air, closing the distance between them in a flash, but before she could drive her left fist into his chin, she sensed a powerful ki and rolled in mid-air to avoid it.
Had she continued on her original course, Luffa would have been intercepted by Trunks.   As it was, she narrowly avoided the slash of his sword, and in doing so, she saved her arm from being cut off at the shoulder.
"Don't tell me," Luffa snarled as she watched Trunks floating in front of Demigra.   His body crackled with the same purple energy that could be found in every fighter Demigra had manipulated with his magic. As revolting as it was to see Trunks as his latest victim, there was hardly any surprise or mystery to it by now.
"It's too bad," Demigra said.   "Seems that your friends do my bidding now."
Trunks pointed his sword at Luffa.  He narrowed his eyes, which glowed red like hot coals.
"You've done this to all of them, haven't you?" Luffa said.  "The whole Time Patrol.  I'm the only one left."
From behind Trunks, Demigra smiled.   "Most of them were in no condition to fight after the battle to take over this city," he explained, "but with a senzu bean to restore his strength, I believe you'll find that Trunks will be more than enough to deal with you.   You should have considered my offer more seriously, Luffa."
Luffa locked eyes with Trunks as they moved towards each other.  There was no hint of restraint or mercy in his expression.  If he could still recognize Luffa, he gave no indication that he perceived her as anything but an enemy to be destroyed.
She sized up his power, then she looked at Demigra and started to laugh.
"Your offer?!" she cackled.   "Fool!  I've been itching to square off with Trunks for weeks, and you hand it to me for free."  She paused to crack her knuckles, then raised her fists with gleeful anticipation.   "With enemies like you, Demigra, who needs friends?"
She watched Trunks carefully for a moment longer, then addressed him directly.
"I know you're suffering right now," she said to him.  "As badly as I wanted to fight you, this isn't what I had in mind.  But if you can hear me... really hear me... then I just want you to know something.   As bad as you might be hurting now, I promise you... that it's about to hurt a lot worse."
With that, she sprang into action.  Trunks readied his sword to strike her, thinking she was trying to get close enough for a melee attack.   Instead, Luffa stopped short, and fired a barrage of ki blasts instead.
Trunks deflected these with ease, but this was only a diversion.  When the last of Luffa's shots was knocked aside, Luffa suddenly came up from behind him, and threw a kick to the small of his back.   But Trunks sensed it coming, and somersaulted in mid-air to avoid it.  Now facing her, he responded with a ki barrage of his own, except Luffa didn't have a sword to help her deflect it.
Instead, she simply flew through the hail of ki blasts.  This caught Trunks off-balance.  He had attacked too quickly, neglecting to put his sword away, and so he could only fire his blasts with his free hand.  His sword hand might have been able to fend off Luffa's assault, but he had expected her to come at him from the flank, not straight through his offensive.  By the time he was able to adjust his position, she was too close to make effective use of the sword, and so he dropped it, just in time to block Luffa's first punch.
"Smart boy," Luffa said.   "Now we see how tough you are."
For the next few minutes, they simply slugged it out.  At first, their strikes were relatively light, with both Super Saiyans conserving energy as they tested each other.   This quickly escalated into a more intense struggle, as neither of them could land a blow, and so they each applied more and more power to try to break through the other's defenses.
"There's more to you than that sword after all!" Luffa said.  "I'm impressed!  That Earthling blood of yours isn't slowing you down much at all!"
"You're a hopeless fool," Trunks said, "if you actually think that sort of talk will save you."
"No, what's going to 'save' me," Luffa replied, "is the way Demigra's power slows you down!  I'll admit, you're not nearly as sluggish as some of the other goons I've fought, but if this is the best you can do, I've got nothing to worry about."
She punctuated this boast by setting Trunks up for a knee to the gut, one that she was certain would knock the wind out of him.  Instead, he blocked it, and countered with a punch to her own abdomen.  For a moment, the world seemed to slow down, as Luffa's head snapped forward and flecks of spittle shot out of her open mouth.
Recovering as quickly as she could, Luffa pushed away from Trunks and raised her arms to defend, but not quickly enough.   Trunks followed up with a kick to her head, and Luffa crashed to the street, leaving a crater in the road.
"Heh," was all she could say when she got her bearings.   She looked up to find Trunks, and when she saw him holding out his arms, her eyes when wide as she realized what was next.
The Burning Attack was one of Trunks' specialties, and though Luffa had only seen it once before, it was enough for her to know she didn't want to be on the receiving end of it.   As she rolled clear of the blast, she felt a tremendous heat on her back, and the edges of her field of view glowed hot orange.
She could sense Trunks closing in to attack again, so she launched herself back into the air, though not in an angle he would have expected.  Instead of flying toward him to take back the initiative, or leaping away to gain some distance, she simply went straight up, forcing him to slow down enough to make the sharp turn he would need to continue his pursuit.  And this gave Luffa the opening she needed to begin her counterattack.
"Gallick Gun!" she shouted as she drew her hands together on her left side and fired a beam of violet light down on Trunks.   She saw him change the angle of his ascent to avoid it, but she simply widened the beam to catch him anyway.
It was a hastily prepared Gallick Gun, so it lacked the stopping power necessary to be effective against an opponent like Trunks, but that suited her purposes.  He fought against the current of the beam, then began to move through it. And as he emerged at the source of the beam, fist raised to attack Luffa...
She deployed her true attack, which was a blast of golden energy from her mouth.
Trunks managed to blunt the worst of the attack with his power, but it still hurt him enough that he covered his face with his hands and stumbled away from Luffa.   She made good use of this opening, and started throwing rapid strikes at Trunks' abdomen and legs.
For a moment, it seemed that Trunks was helpless, and then he finally threw out his hands, and with a tremendous shout he released a wave of force that pushed Luffa away.  Before she could push her way back to him, he caught her with a kick to the chin.
"Not bad!" Luffa said.  "If I didn't know better, Trunks, I'd say you were beginning to enjoy yourself!"
"The only thing that will satisfy me now," Trunks growled, "is your death."
"Then you better hope someone else grants your wish," Luffa scoffed.  "Because you don't have what it takes to get it done.  It's not just your mixed blood, Trunks, or even that purple crap Demigra is using to make you fight me.  You know what's really holding you down?"
Trunks didn't wait for her to finish.  Instead, he launched another barrage of ki at Luffa.   This time, he focused the range, and left her no room to dodge or escape.  This continued for forty-five seconds, until a bright light shone from within the zone of his attack.   Confused, Trunks eased off, allowing the smoke to fade from the area so he could see what was happening inside.
He found Luffa, still alive, and making a low, gravelly hum.   Her arms were crossed over her face, and all around her was a golden sphere of light.  Trunks resumed firing, only to find that his blasts were simply being absorbed into the sphere.
She looked up at him and smiled, then produced an ear-splitting scream as she released the captured energy, shooting it all out in every direction.  The entire Time Plaza lit up in yellow as each globule of power reached solid matter and exploded.
Trunks managed to avoid being hit, but the attack left him unable to get a fix on Luffa's position.   The entire city was now saturated with Super Saiyan ki signatures, and Luffa had managed to give him the slip while he was dodging her attack.  Frustrated, Trunks landed and went to retrieve his fallen sword.   It had landed near the stream that flowed between the Shenron altar and the entrance to the Time Nest.
As he bent down to pick it up, something emerged from the water, and grabbed hold of the tails of his black trenchcoat.
The next thing Trunks knew, he was underwater, and Luffa was on top of him.   The water began to churn and glow as the two of them struggled.  And then, there was a loud boom as they released ki attacks at the same time.
For a few seconds, the water in the stream was driven away by the sheer force of their powers.  Luffa and Trunks continued to brawl on the exposed streambed, and the water upstream of them simply flowed out of the channel and spilled around them until it found its way downstream of their battle.
"You're going to lose," Luffa said, "because you've set yourself up to fail!  'Prince of All Saiyans'!  Hah!  What a joke!"
Her next punch missed, and Trunks caught her forearm and worked her into a hammerlock.
"Dammit!" Luffa yelled.
"You want to tell jokes, Luffa?" Trunks asked.  "Tell me the one about the raving lunatic who tried to blow herself up because she couldn't think of a better option!"
"Oh, and you would have handled it better, I suppose!" Luffa shouted back.   She threw her head forward, then drove it back into Trunk's face.   From there, it was a simple matter to reverse the hold, but she kept a grip on Trunks' arm and swung him into the bank of the stream.  She meant to hold onto him and keep slamming him into various surfaces, but he managed to right himself and grab hold of her other hand in a knuckle-lock.
For a time, they stood against each other in a test of strength, each pushing back against the other, neither giving any ground.  Their golden aura's flashed and crackled against another.   Bolts of lightning flashed around them as the air ionized from the titanic forces they were applying against each other.
"You're no warrior," Trunks said.  "Just a loose cannon looking for a brawl!"
"I didn't ask for any of this!" Luffa shouted back.  "But I turned into this thing and I've made the most of it.  It was good enough for Shenron when you went looking for someone who could do your job for you!"
"And you failed!" Trunks shouted.  "And I'm going to see to it that you never fail anyone else ever again!"
"You and what army, Your Majesty?!" she screamed.   "You haven't got what it takes!  I was wiping out you royalist clowns centuries ago!   You're no exception!"
Suddenly their struggle reached a tipping point, and they were flung apart from each other by a monumental explosion created by their opposing powers.   The water instantly rushed in to fill the void.
Trunks was the first to get back to his feet.    He found Luffa then leaped after her, thinking she was too dazed to get up.   She drove both of her black boots into his face to show him the error of his thinking.  He stumbled back one step, and then Luffa swung her legs apart and closed them around his waist, locking her ankles together.   Before Trunks could understand what she was doing, she planted her palms onto the ground and lifted him up over her, driving him head-first into the pavement like a child tossing sand over her shoulder.
"That's what makes you second-rate, Trunks," Luffa continued.  "You've got my blood running through your veins, and it's made you strong, no doubt.  But you've also got the blood of forty or fifty idiots who thought wearing a crown made them special.  Well you're not."
He didn't move, and so she kicked him in the ribs.   When he didn't stir, she kicked him again.  And again.
"The Rehvals thought their vision could unite the Saiyans into a nation, damn their eyes.  When they couldn't get enough suckers to play their game, Rehval III tried to play God.  Eugenics, alchemy, secret cults, there wasn't any depth he wouldn't stoop to!  He turned himself into a monster to keep me from wrecking his plan, and I became an even bigger monster to show him how it's done!   I-- whoa!"
Trunks suddenly grabbed her leg as she went to kick him one more time, and he tackled her to the ground.    She struggled to get out from under him, but he surprised her by avoiding the holds that she would have expected him to try.   Instead, he clamped both hands securely on her tail.
"You're no monster," Trunks seethed.   "You're just a throwback.   A relic who can't stand being forgotten and obsolete!"
He squeezed and twisted Luffa's yellow tail with a look of sadistic hatred in his eyes.    Luffa was confused, and then when she finally understood what he was trying to do, she became angry.
Very angry.
"You think it's that easy?!" she howled.  "You think I'm some kind of child!"
By the time Trunks understood that his plan would not work, it was too late for him to get clear.  Luffa squirmed out from under him and grabbed hold of his left leg.   Wrapping both arms around his ankles and both legs around his thigh, she locked him into a kneebar and began applying pressure with her hips.
Trunks cried out in agony as his left knee began to hyperextend.  He quickly forgot all about Luffa's tail and tried to reach down to her shoulders to free himself.
"Let me tell you a story, Prince," Luffa said through clenched teeth.  "It's about the mythical Prince of All Saiyans."
Trunks started shooting ki blasts at Luffa's back, but with the pain he was in, he couldn't focus his powers properly.
"It's a fable," Luffa said.  "About what a true Saiyan leader ought to be!   He would command through respect, not just power or cunning!   He would know that the Saiyan heart is unruly, and could only be led by agreement!  And the only way he could rule over all the Saiyans would be if he proved his courage and dedication again and again!  He would have to give everything he had for his people, because if he wavered in his commitment, even for an instant, then he would be exposed as a fraud!  He would be another self-centered creep using the strength of others to compensate for his own weakness!"
With every word, Luffa tortured the ligaments in Trunks' knee.   His screams were like music to her ears.
"You blue-blooded...!  Condescending...!   Jackass!" she shrieked.  "You think you can beat me just by pulling on my tail!   You'd even insinuate that I wouldn't have trained it to withstand an attack!   I'd rip yours off if you still had one!  So I'll just settle for your leg instead!  When I'm through with you, I-- Aiieeerrghh!"
Perhaps motivated by the pain, Trunks finally managed to produce a ki attack strong enough to break Luffa's hold on his leg.  He kicked her away with his good leg, then used a handspring to vault away from her.   Luffa rose to her feet, and when she saw Trunks prepared for another skirmish, she grinned.
"Yeah, you're a stubborn one, aren't you?" Luffa said.  "Just like your whole dynasty.  They didn't know when to roll over and die."
"You're the one who wanted to give up, Luffa," Trunks growled.  "I should have left you to suffocate in space like you wanted."
"Is that supposed to rattle me?" she asked.   "You can't even control your own mind, and you think you can play games with mine?!  Hah!  You really are Vegeta's son!"
They clashed again, but this time Trunks broke away early, and Luffa had to chase him.   They flew around Toki Toki City this way, filling the skies with high-pitched noises as they flew at intense speeds, peppered with thunderous peals whenever they came to blows.
"Your ancestors were too stupid to quit!" Luffa went on.   "I killed Rehval, but the Saiyans wanted to follow his idiot vision all the way to the grave!  They bred our people like cattle, stupidly thinking they could produce another Super Saiyan!   And by the time one was born, they had lost their entire kingdom to Frieza!  Your grandfather stood around like a dope and let it happen!"
She took a sudden turn and weaved through a row of Capsule buildings to get the drop on him, but Trunks knew the city too well, and it only gave him time to prepare a Buster Cannon.  Luffa might have dodged it, except she had no idea how many survivors were in the city, or where they might be.  A blast of that magnitude could have killed them, and so she caught the golden blast and held it back with her hands.
"Your father thought he could avenge his people through his princely blood alone!   'Prince of All Saiyans'!  Hah!  All the rest, is more like it!  Too little, too late, and when he finally realized it, his only hope was to become what I am!  A legend he despised for most of his life!  And by the time he finally figured out how to achieve it, it was too late!"
That got a rise out of Trunks, and he began to channel more and more power into his attack.  Luffa held fast and began to push back against the yellow fireball.   Trunks shifted the angle of his attack, forcing Luffa down to the ground, but while this left her with no room to withdraw, it also gave her something to brace against.   As she struggled, her hands began to glow to match the Buster Cannon, and lightning crackled from her fingertips.
"That's it!" she screamed.  "Give it everything you have!   Everything you have!"
As she taunted him, she began to exert pressure on the Buster Cannon,  and with great effort, the massive globe of energy began to contract.   She grunted as she pushed even harder, encouraged by her progress.   And finally, she collapsed the ki ball entirely, and diverted its power harmlessly into the sky.
When it was over, she expected to see Trunks looming above her, but instead he was gone.  Luffa glanced around for him, and found him just in time to see the edge of his sword swinging towards her.   She only had time to fall backward, and watched with awe as the blood-stained metal passed before her eyes.    Had she been an instant slower, she would have surely been decapitated.
Trunks kept attacking, making relentless, wild swings with his sword with all the speed he could muster.  Luffa noticed that he was still favoring his knee, and that may have been the only thing that saved her.  At last, she was able to put enough distance between them that she could regroup.
"Clever," she said.   "You used that big ki blast to keep me busy so you could fetch your sword.   And that might have helped you earlier, while you were still fresh, but now...?"
She held up her left hand, and grunted as she channeled her ki into her index and middle finger.  Then she pointed them at Trunks like they were a weapon of their own.    "You might as well back down now, Trunks," she said.  "It's all downhill from here."
Trunks did not back down.  If anything, Luffa's challenge only renewed his motivation to fight, as he charged headlong at her.   He swung his sword, and Luffa deflected it with her fingers.
Frustrated, Trunks tried again, and again.  Each time, Luffa blocked his strikes.  There were openings where she might have tried to attack,  but she let these opportunities pass, and only blocked.   Occasionally, she would take a step back, giving ground as Trunks continued his assault.
"Prince of the Saiyans," Luffa scoffed.   "You inherited my power, but you still play by their backward rules.  Too rigid, too diplomatic for my tastes, Trunks.  You're so focused on the orthodox that you can't imagine anything beyond it!"
Then, after blocking one last strike, Luffa went on the offensive.  She drew back her hand, and lunged forward to jab at Trunks' chest.  Acting on pure reflex from his countless hours of training, Trunks blocked her fingers with the flat of his blade.
And Luffa smiled at him.
A crimson beam shot out of her fingertips, drilling through the steel like it was warm butter, and ripping through the flesh of Trunks' left shoulder like it was nothing at all.
For a moment that seemed to linger, Trunks' face was frozen in a mixture of pained shock and self-recrimination.   His red eyes went wide as he stared down at Luffa.
"Vengeance Cannon," she said quietly, but no less triumphantly.
Then she spun around and delivered a kick to the arm she had just wounded.   Trunks' sword fell out of his hands and went flying.   It finally struck the hull of one of the Capsule buildings, embedding itself into the wall like a splinter sticking out of a giant thumb.
"Ordinarily, you would have seen that coming from the moment I charged up my fingers," Luffa said.  "But I played swordfighter with you for a bit, and you got so caught up in it that you forgot all about my finisher."
Trunks made a low growling noise at he clutched at his wounded arm.
"You've still got some fight left in you," Luffa said, "and I'll be happy to see this through, but you have to know how this is going to end.   Bad knee, bad shoulder... Demigra's magic dulling your fighting instincts just a hair... add it all up, and you might as well hang it up, Prince."
If he had any interest in what she was saying, he ignored it, and clenched his right hand into a fist as he charged his energy for another round of battle.
"You've got heart," Luffa said.  She raised an eyebrow as she sensed just how much power he could still bring to bear.   "Or maybe that's Demigra, tugging a little harder on the strings, huh?  Or maybe you just can't stand to disappoint your royal ancestors."
"Enough."
Luffa looked up to find Demigra floating overhead, his arms outstretched like a blasphemous parody of a figure in a religious artwork.
"So you've finally decided to step in and do your own dirty work?" Luffa asked.  "Suits me fine, Demigra.  Trunks was just about finished anyway."
"Actually, I had something else in mind," Demigra said with a smirk.  "As impressive as your battle has been, I'd rather not see Trunks killed so early into his service.    If they were healthy, I might consider sending the other Time Patrollers in to support him, but they're all worn out from fighting Trunks earlier, not to mention each other.  But then I had an idea.  I may not be able to use them as cannon fodder, but they could still prove useful as hostages."
He raised his hands, and a purple mist rose from his palms like smoke rising from a volcano.   Luffa watched him carefully, but she had no way of knowing what he was doing, or the significance of the mystic gestures he was making.
"They may be exhausted and hurt," Demigra said, "but my Time Patrol is always eager to serve their new god, no matter how gruesome their duty.  And so I'll summon them here, and if they can't fight you, then I'll just have them battle one another."
Luffa's eyes went wide with outrage.   "You'd sink that low?!" she asked.
"If a god does something, it cannot be immoral," Demigra scoffed.  "You're welcome to continue your fight with Trunks if you wish.  Though I can see you're reluctant to keep fighting, now that you've wounded him.  If it were up to him, he would probably surrender, but it's not up to him, and my Time Patrol will never surrender."
Luffa was flustered.  Defeating Trunks was a simple task at this point, but it would still take time to incapacitate him. Saving the other Time Patrollers from themselves could also be done, but that would also take time.  And she was confident that she could beat Demigra, but not while Trunks and the Time Patrollers were still able to hurt each other while she fought.  It was an impossible choice.   There simply wasn't enough time!
And then, to her surprise, Demigra's arrogant expression twisted into a look of annoyance.
"What?!" he snarled.  "Where are they?  Why haven't they appeared?!   What happened to my spell?!"
And then Luffa heard a familiar voice.
"I happened, Demigra."
Luffa turned to find Chronoa standing in the main road of the Industrial Sector.   Despite her petite frame, she projected a tremendous authority as she planted her fists against her hips and glared up at Demigra.
Demigra looked down at her, decidedly less than intimidated.
"Well, if it isn't the Supreme Kai of Time," he said with a chuckle.   "I'm sorry.  I meant ex-Supreme Kai of Time.   I believe your services are no longer required at this time."
"That decision isn't yours to make, Demigra," she said.  "And neither are the Time Patrollers you've enslaved with your magic.  I had a feeling you'd try to use them as hostages, so while you were busy watching Luffa fight, I evacuated them."
"Evacuated them?!" Demigra said.   "Where?!  How?!"
Chronoa held out her hand and smiled.   "Come on, Demigra," she said.  "You may have been stuck in the Crack of Time for millions of years, but surely you haven't forgotten the Kai Kai Technique?   It's what lets Supreme Kais teleport to different worlds to conduct their godly business.  I received the ability from the Grand Supreme Kai when I first assumed my position."
Demigra's face twisted with rage.  "You little thief!" he snarled.
"I couldn't remove your spell, but you won't be able to control them since you don't know where they are," Chronoa said.   "Of course, if you were the god you claim to be, then you shouldn't have any trouble finding them and bringing them back.  Isn't that right?"
"It doesn't matter!" Demigra thundered.  "I have all the power I need to destroy the likes of you.   You won't take Trunks from me quite so easily, Chronoa.  Not to mention Tokitoki.  Yes, you should have thought of your little teleportation trick sooner, before I absorbed him!"
"You monster!" Chronoa shouted.  "Give him back!  Tokitoki isn't yours!"
Demigra laughed.  "You dare to command me!   To defy me?!" he screamed.    "Do you know what happens when you defy a god?!   Do you?!   You receive divine retribution!  You shall endure torment like no-- Arrgh!"
He was cut off when Luffa suddenly vanished from where she had been standing, only to reappear beside him to deliver a punch to the jaw.   For all his bluster, Demigra crashed into one of the buildings in the Industrial sector, and lay in an undignified heap for several seconds.
"You talk too much, Demigra," Luffa said.   "You want to dish out some 'divine retribution'?  Go right ahead."  She pointed at herself as she said: "But you start with me."
But Luffa had neglected to take Trunks into consideration.  Though badly hurt, he was still driven by Demigra's magic to attack her, and so he did.   Reluctantly, Luffa had to fight him first, even though she knew he was practically beaten.
"Dammit, you're beaten, Trunks!" Luffa shouted.  "Roll over and lay down like a proper royal!"
But Trunks would not be deterred, and so Luffa went to work on his weakened knee and injured shoulder.   They were both on the left side, which made the ribs on his left flank an easy target.   Luffa kicked him, only for Trunks to block with his bad arm.   The pain should have been excruciating for him, but he continued to fight on.  He was literally a man possessed.
"I'm not screwing around, Trunks!" Luffa growled.   "If you keep this up--!"
He kept attacking, though she had no trouble fighting back.  She grabbed him by the hair and pulled his head down as she brought up her knee.   Trunks was stunned, but not stopped.  He took a step back, but only so he could increase his power.
"Luffa, be careful!" Chronoa called out.  "He's under Demigra's mind control!"
"I know that!" Luffa snapped.  "Why else would he be glowing purple like this?!"
"I mean he's not going to give up!" Chronoa warned her.   "Right now he'd tear his body apart if it meant killing you in the process!"
Trunks continued to push his body to higher and higher levels of power.    His screams began to sound less like those of a determined warrior and more like a man burning alive.    Despite this, Luffa used the opening to raise her own power to keep up with him.
"I've got no choice!" she called back to Chronoa.  "It's him or me, and it's damn sure not going to be me!"
Behind her, she could hear Demigra laughing.   "Heh... You hit your own friends without hesitation," he jeered.    "Poor Trunks must be in such pain."
"Damn you, Demigra!" Chronoa yelled.  But this was all she could do.
"Enough of this!" Luffa roared.  "If I have to go through you to get to Demigra, then so be it, Trunks!  At least I'll do my best to make this quick!"
She leaped at him and landed a right hook to his face.  This staggered him, but he refused to drop.
"Fall!" Luffa growled.   "Fall!"
She hit him again, and again, but Trunks wouldn't go down.  And then, at last, he spoke.
"I-it's okay..." he said.   "Just... hit me again...!"
Luffa was so stunned that she forgot herself, and Trunks landed a blow of his own.  She almost didn't notice the pain of getting punched in the stomach.
"You... you!" she gasped as she caught her breath.
"Trunks!" Chronoa called out.
"What?!  He's trying to escape my mind control?!" Demigra shouted.
"It's to break out of Demigra's magic," Trunks said.  He sounded much more like himself than before.  It had always been his voice, but Luffa hadn't realized how twisted it had sounded until now.   But this was the true Trunks speaking.  The evil fog still saturated his body, but he was free enough to speak for himself.
"Don't worry about me!" Trunks pleaded, even as he continued to attack.   "I need your help.   Just keep it coming...!"
"Shut up!  You defiant little ingrate!"  Demigra screeched from the sidelines.
Luffa blocked Trunks' next strike, and stared into his glowing red eyes.   "I've been hitting you this entire time, stupid!" she said.  "If that wasn't enough to break you free, what more will it take?"
Trunks screwed up his face into a resolute grimace, and then made a defiant smirk.   "Try hitting me like you mean it this time," he said. "Or maybe you really were overrated this whole time."
Luffa glared at him with a murderous fury, and then her eyes went wide and she began to laugh.
"You know what?!" she shouted.   "You're all right, Trunks!  Okay, you get your wish, smart guy!"
Her next swing was wild, and Trunks avoided it easily, in spite of his wounds.   This was just to set him up for her next strike, which landed square in his abdomen.   Then an uppercut to the chin.   And several quick jabs to his ribs.  Trunks struggled to block, and to fight back, and to his credit, he managed to hold out, even landing blows of his own, though this had more to do with Luffa being unwilling to go on the defensive.  She was happy to take three hits from Trunks in order to score one.
And as she wore him down, in spite of the beating she was taking herself, Luffa howled with laughter the entire time.
"Shut up!" Demigra shouted.   "What do you think is so damned funny?!"
"You are, Demigra!" Luffa screamed back.   "This was the big idea you've been planning for seventy-five million years?   You thought you could take over by pitting a Super Saiyan against another Super Saiyan?!  Hah!  Don't threaten me with a good time!     This only gets me fired up, so I'll be even more eager to crush you!"
"Stop... heckling... him!" Trunks said.   "And fight... harder!"
"You see?  You see?!" Luffa shouted.  "Even Trunks is enjoying himself!  But don't worry, Demigra!  I won't let him hog all the fun!  Your turn is coming soon enough!"
Trunks was on his last legs, but he still goaded Luffa to keep hitting him.   "Don't let up!" he said between coughs.   "It's... working!   But you're going to have to do... better than that!"
"Hah!  That's the spirit, Trunks!  Fight like a Saiyan!"  Luffa hit him in the midsection with a double-axehandle, and he collapsed to the ground.   He tried to get up, but couldn't get further than to plant his hands and knees beneath himself.   As he struggled to rise, Luffa put her boot on the back of his head and shoved him back down.
"And you can die like a Saiyan," she added as she pressed her heel against his cranium.
"Arrrrghhh!" Trunks screamed, although he barely had the strength to manage that anymore.
"Luffa, stop!" Chronoa pleaded.  "You'll kill him!"
"It's better than being stuck under Demigra's thumb," Luffa said with a snort.  "Dead or alive, he won't get in my way when I tear Demigra to shreds."
Chronoa ran towards them, holding out her hands, although Luffa didn't know if she meant to rescue Trunks or continue pleading for his life.   By the time she reached them, the matter was academic.   The purple fog dissipated, and Trunks' body returned to normal.   His muscles seemed to relax now, as though a great tension had been relieved now that he was finally free.
"Good fight," Luffa muttered under her breath as Chronoa knelt by Trunks' side.  His hair, now reverted back to its usual state, was matted with blood, and he did not move, save for the rise and fall of his torso as he breathed.
"He's... he's still alive," Chronoa said.  "For a while there, I was afraid you were really going to..."
The Kai looked up at Luffa and trailed off when she realized Luffa was no longer paying attention to her or Trunks.    With one opponent defeated,  Luffa wasted no time turning her attention to Demigra.
She looked up at the Demon God, and raised her clenched fist at him.
"You're going to pay in blood for what you did to him," she said.
