i would like you see some good dogs...

Duch Leona (Leon's Spirit) is a foundation rescuing big and giant dogs, who were once deemed dangerous and agressive. by giving them appropriate life conditions - like space, peace, nature exploration and company of other stable dogs - they return to their true nature. they are not there to meet anyone's expectations on what a dog should be. they are there to be who a dog is.

they are an example of what dogs can be like, once you give them a chance to. on of the most beautiful things in the communication between them. their relationships, how they communicate with each other. who they are to each other.

i'm always moved when i observe them. dogs themselves are very touching to me. it gives me hope that there are people and places that understand and love this species for what it is.

i recommend watching more of the videos on their channel. the updates are much more frequent on facebook, but everything is in polish and there they not only show films, but also discuss many themes related to dogs' situation in poland. this is what love looks like.

The Swan slammed the door behind her, throwing herself on the bed as warm tears full of rage ran down her face.

"Wh-what the hex?" A familiar voice exclaimed.

"Don't you say anything, don't you see that I'm devastated, you stupid bird?" Sparrow crossed his arms with a serious expression that didn't match him. It's not everyday that you see a crying Duchess invading your dorm in the middle of the day. 

"Yeah I have eyes, I just don't know what that has to do with going into my room out of nowhere. I could have been changing y'know, imagine if you saw me changing."

"I'm not gonna imagine that" she threw a pillow at him "Now can you please be a gentleman and ask me what's wrong?" Said, managing to sound even angrier. God, this probably was a mistake, she shouldn't have allowed Sparrow to see her in this vulnerable state. She shouldn't allow anyone, for that matter.

Sparrow tilted his head. On one hand, the Duchess was prone to temper tantrums and drama and this could very well be one of those. On the other hand… crying wasn't really her thing, especially not in front of others.

"What happened?" He asked then, sitting on the bed by her side. Satisfied, she sat up and cleaned some of her tears.

"Remember that presentation for The White Queen that I told you about?" The thief thought for a while.

"The one where you had to inspire people with your story?"

"Yes. I. I did this whole thing, I acted like a true white swan, I was kind and humble and everyone loved it and it was so nice" said, her voice full of melancholy.

"What's the problem, then?" He said, not understanding where she was getting at.

"Let me finish!" She exclaimed, but her eyes went to sadness again and she sighed.

"Apple, that stupid princess, did a ballet presentation right after mine and she knows that ballet is MY thing! She could've done absolutely anything but she just had to go with ballet it's like she was trying to be outshine me!"

"Well, White is a goody two shoes, I'm sure she didn't mean any harm"

"That's not the problem, Sparrow!" She said exasperated, turning to look him in the eyes. "It's that. It seems like it doesn't matter how much I try, I'm always forgotten, ignored, overshadowed! I'm not like them, I don't get a happily ever after, I don't get the guy and I definitely don't get the kingdom! All I get is a stupid legacy and my ballet, and now not even that I guess! I don't want to die just to be forgotten!" The words rushed from her mouth, as if they've been stuck in her throat for a long time, desperate to let out, to allow vulnerability and fear. "Hell, even a commoner like you gets a happily ever after in your tale, it's not fair" added, because she had to be at least a bit mean or else it wasn't the Duchess speaking. Sparrow, however, seemed to ignore that last part, too focused on looking for the right words.

"I know a thing or two about being forgotten" said, the softness in his tone a secret that would stay between the two, just like many others "But I won't forget you, Duch. It's hard to forget such a mean bitch" she hit him with a pillow again. And again.

"You're. Awful. At. Being. A. Gentleman" said, and with each word, she hit her friend again with the poor pillow. "And also an awful liar" continued as she calmed down, not looking him in the eyes "I know I'm just a forgettable, desperate swan for you, just like for everyone else"

"If that's what you see, then maybe you're trying to impress the wrong people" shrugged, laying down on the bed with his arms behind his head.

"What the hex is that supposed to mean?"

"You're trying to be remembered as a kind and nice princess and that's not really what you are. You're more of a…

"Black Swan" she concluded the phrase for him, looking down at her hands, feeling like crying again. "That's what Faybelle said. That I'm destined to be the Black Swan, the villain. Cruel and selfish, only able to get her prince by deceiving her way into romance" as the words left her mouth, realization hit and she looked down, a single tear tracing it's way down her face "That sounds exactly like me doesn't it?"

"I mean-"  Sparrow started, but she was quick to interrupt.

"I tried to be good, kind and humble and what did I get? Nothing!" she snapped, her voice full of uncertainty and frustration "So maybe they're right! Maybe I'll make a better villain!" She felt the urge to cover her mouth like uttering those words alone was an offense against good costumes, but instead simply allowed it to sink in. 

After a moment of tension, Sparrow opened a smile, excited and threw his hands in the air.

"Yeah! I could even make you a villain song! And you could dance to it!" 

"And I would finally have a happily ever after." Said, again with the feelings that those words where a crime, ignoring Sparrow's optimist perspective "But at what cost?" Added more to herself, to remember that as tempting as that sounded, she still had responsibilities.

"Hm… Basically none? Unless you care about befriending White and her crew" The Duchess's face immediately turned into a frown of disgust upon hearing those names, but she tried to remain composed.

"I- I don't know Sparrow. I just don't know. If I'm the Black Swan then people are right to hate me, and as much as I don't care for the people at this school, that would mean I'm destined to be despised. Then… I'll never have friends, I'll never be included, I-"

"That's stupid! You already have like a shiton of friends" he started to count on his hand.

"You have me, Faybelle, that one ballet girl-"

"I don't think Justine sees me as a friend, I would say rival at best"

"Doesn't matter, you also have… hm. Well, you don't have many friends but you have good friends" 

"You can't just self proclaim yourself as a good friend, Bird brain, that's not how this works"

"I'm trying to be nice here. Take the fucking compliment"

"Okay" she rolled her eyes, but with the smallest smile. He was right, like it or not, she didn't make much friends but she would do anything for the few ones that she had.

"Besides you can" he changed his voice to a poor imitation of Raven Queen "choose your own destiny" she gasped.

"Are you suggesting I become a Rebel?" Asked as if his words alone were a crime. 

"I am, but if that's too commoner for you, then let's just say no. I'm saying you still have time to decide if you want to be a white or a black swan. Or a bit of both, whatever"

"A villain and a hero…" she reflected on those words. As contradictory as it sounded it also didn't sound… wrong. "A bit like you then?"

"That's offensive" he exclaimed, a bit too loudly "I'm not a hero!" 

"Well you did save my mood" she playfully tilted his hat making it fall over his eyes "so it's a start" 

"Keep doing that and I'll tell everyone that I saw you crying" threatened as he fixed the green hat.

"Do that and I'm taking your guitar for a dip in the lake" joked with a mischievous smile getting back on her feet.

"You wouldn't!" Said, now sounding genuinely offended. 

"Try me, bird brain" replied, already on her way to the door "anyway, bye, I need to find some way to have my revenge for Apple, when I need you for the plan I'll let you know" and with those words she left, not before doing a gracious spin, showing that she really was in a good mood again. He rolled his eyes, but with a smile.

He was a good friend, the Duchess thought to herself. But it's not like she would ever say that out loud.

My back cracks as I stretch it out, a grunt of relief escaping me as I do so, my body aching from the last few hours, not really having expected the two helicopter trips I'd had to go on. Generally, I'm good at my job, and treating people in a moving aircraft is a skill I've long since honed, but the last couple of trips had been much worse than normal. The final one in particular had been terrible; I have no idea where the muscular man got such an impressive array of injuries, but it had meant I'd had to stay with him constantly throughout the long ride to the hospital, making sure his wounds didn't bleed too much, and that he didn't fall asleep on me. If he had, he most likely would've suffered a whole lot more than he did. 

I shake my head clear of these thoughts as I walk down the bright corridor, rubbing my eyes against the fluorescent lights, wishing they'd tone them down a bit, finding them particularly harsh in my fatigued state. A few people hurry past me, none of them acknowledging my presence, which suits me fine, my focus entirely on reaching the correct ward now rather than trying to explain to someone why someone in military fatigues is walking around (sometimes being a field medic has its downfalls). My boots tap loudly on the floor, striking out a rhythm that keeps me awake, though I can feel my exhaustion starting to creep up on me.

Turning a corner, I finally locate the correct ward, giving the guard standing outside my ID before entering, aware that the feds probably want to keep this on the low-down. I'm glad to find that, apart from the three patients in the room, I'm the only other person there, giving me some privacy for once. 

As I enter, I feel my eyes drawn briefly to the large form of Major Schaefer, the last man we'd pulled from the jungle, on the bed directly to my left, the unconscious veteran finally clean of the thick layer of mud and grime he'd previously been caked in. To his left is Anna, the Guerrilla girl that had come with them, though she is only in now so that the feds can keep an eye on her. She wasn't injured particularly badly, a bit bruised and somewhat bloodied, but I'd still recommended spending the night in the hospital, just to be sure: she'd been very shaken up when we found her and the other inhabitant of the room. 

Having looked over the other two, I now go to the prone figure of the other guy we'd rescued. Somehow, I'd never gotten his name, the man far too agonized to say much in the helicopter, but I'd instantly found myself hoping that he would be ok. Sure, I felt like that with all my patients, but this guy had been on my mind all day, and I couldn't shake it. Eventually, I had followed my instinct and gone to check up on him, despite what I normally tell myself when treating patients.

Nearing him, I stand by the side of his bed and look over him, taking in the peaceful look on his face, muscles totally relaxed in this state. His chest is left clear of his blanket, deep purple bruising appearing just past the collar of his hospital robe, leaving his skin mottled and angry-looking. Other scars and bandaged injuries litter his exposed body, but nothing is particularly serious from what I can see. Of course, it's entirely likely that he has a few broken ribs, I'd been almost certain of that when I first checked him over, but from this angle it's hard to tell, and I don't want to hurt him further by looking. 

As I watch him, his eyelids start to flicker, head twitching a little as his conscience gradually returns to him. A low noise echoes up from his parting lips, the sedative drugs administered to him clearly wearing off now, his previous pain most likely starting to seek back into him, drawing him further into reality than he'd like. Surprised, I step back a bit, staying close by in case he needs help, my heart beating faster as he wakes up properly.

He coughs harshly as he comes to, wincing as the movement wracks his currently frail body, eyes flicking here and there, trying to discern where he is. They quickly come to rest on me, the man fixing me with a stare as he turns his head towards me.

Rolling my eyes, I force back a smile of my own, carefully removing his hand.

You said it would have made David Wallace happy for Anne to be in a heraldic mantle, but you didn't have space in the tags to go into it. Would you be willing to expand on that? (obviously please feel no obligation to do so)

I only vaguely remember saying that but knowing my own thought process and thinking of a friend's (excellent) monograph-in-progress about Anne I read recently that cites him, I think it must have been about his suggestion that Richard would have totally gotten off on having the daughter of an emperor kneel to him and then when Anne died he couldn't get that feeling anymore, which is why he started attempting to get elected emperor himself in the late 1390s.

I was definitely being sardonic because I hate when historians treat Anne as a sort of conduit for imperial cultural cachet in a manner that suggests that she had no actual personality of her own and suggest that what Richard really loved about her was how she made him feel powerful. Wallace was one of the first people (in Chaucerian Polity) to take Anne seriously as a cultural force—which is great and I love and appreciate that!—but since we don't have a lot of records that show what she was like as a person, you sometimes get historians, particularly male historians, writing about her as if she had no agency or personality at all, like the fact that we don't know means there's nothing to know. It's not even necessarily on purpose, as the suggestion often seems to be that Richard objectified her, but that is absolutely not a necessary conclusion—I mean, I'm sure the prestige of having an imperial bride would have been a great motivator for Richard to pursue the marriage initially and why he was willing to marry Anne despite her lack of a dowry. That's how dynastic marriages go. But they were married for twelve years and were together all the time; I doubt their day-to-day human relationship was based entirely on her relationship to Charles IV.

At any rate, the thing I was talking about with Anne wearing a heraldic mantle was my fic "Andělíčku rozkochaný," which focuses on Anne's intercession on behalf of the people of London in 1392. A lot of the pageantry (as recorded in Richard Maidstone's poem Concordia) does place a lot of emphasis on her imperial heritage. It doesn't tell us what Anne was wearing except that she had a red dress on, so the mantle is something I made up but I actually did do that as a way of continuing that imagery. (Richard is in fact kind of getting off on her kneeling to him but for very personal reasons that have nothing to do with her bloodlines and everything to do with her being his beloved wife who looks extremely regal and beautiful and it's meant to be a really romantic moment!)

However fate or destiny or something drew them together once more at a suffragette rally at St George's Square in New Salem. They each know that witching used to exist, once upon a time, but it has long since faded into simple charms or nursery rhymes. It is a time where the power of the history of witches and witchcraft has been diminished. The sisters now look to transform the women's rally into something more, into something to bring back witching. Perhaps along the way to also heal the broken bonds between them. There's no such thing as witches anymore but the sisters will make sure there is and will continue being for a time to come.

Review: This book is 500+ pages long and yet I never once felt the length of it. The acing was perfect, it sucked me in and made sure to keep me reading. I was hooked right from the first chapter and I never lost interest in the story. It had me wanting more and more. The plot twist was amazingly written and I definitely didn't see it coming. Harrow did such if great job of amazing me, of surprising me.

The three main characters each felt different. They each had their strengths and their flaws. They felt real because Harrow didn't try to make them perfect. Harrow made sure to have us rooting for them but also seeing that they could fail, that they could be wrong. That their failings had consequences, that is what makes a character great. Once a character fails you root for them to fix things and these characters do fix things but harrow shows that sometimes not everything can be fixed thoroughly that splinters will always remain.

Trigger warning for abuse here. Harrow did such a great job of showing how long lasting the effects of abuse can be. How it never fully leaves you, but how you can push through it and become a powerful person the person that was always hiding inside of you. I haven't read many books that show people struggling throughout the whole book what effects abuse leaves on you. Especially not ones that show how it remains even after years of being away from it. This books did duch a great job of showing it.

Let's talk about the world building now shall we? The world building is so amazing. Books that truly invest time in their world building will always have my heart. Harrow packs so much world building into this back yet it doesn't feel overwhelming because it isn't given to you all at once. It's sprinkles throughout the story at exactly the correct times. It's exactly the same with the magic.

Magic or witching as it's called in the book, is handled wonderfully. It's not given to you in big grand gestures. In beautiful displays but in small simple one. Simple ones that make you see how with ingenuity women have hidden witching. How they have managed to keep it alive through simple gestures. Here in this book, magic is handed down through legacies but things are lost and women have had to learn how to make it work despite what they're missing. "witchcraft isn’t one thing but many things, all the ways and words women have found to wreak their wills on the world.”

Now let's talk about the lgbtqia+ aspects of this book. There is transgender representation and wlw representation. Harrow shows how the woman have to hide it due to the era they live in. How even siblings have their questions on it. However, she shows how it can be done and how people have hidden it but still lived as happy as they can.

In conclusion, this book is definitely one I'll be rereading. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a god story involving witches, for those looking for a story of vengeance but also one of coming together. For those who want to be sucked into a world entirely unique.

Duchess stared down the mahogany door as if her eyes alone could demand more time from the polished wood.

It had been decided between the three of them that Duchess be the primary contact for the medical staff after the last relapse. Even Shingen's seemingly infallible good spirit had plummeted with that hit and Yuki nearly blew up in the office when the news reached him. Neither Shingen's heart nor Yuki's temper could take another head-on attack like that.

Duchess could handle it. One good thing about growing up in the way she did was learning how to detach herself when needed and the doctors were confident this would be the last of their personal plague. There were good chances the call may never come…

What foolish thinking.

Most of the solitary drive to the coast after that dreadful call had been spent in silence as she refused to break down until she could sit at the water's edge. Only then did she allow her own emotions to flow freely under the moon when no one was around. Once the worst part was over and her shoulders finally stopped shuddering, she hopped back in the car and made her way to the condo that had been her home for the last of her high school years to break the news. Today was as good a day as any since everyone would be gathered together, no point in suffering further by delaying the inevitable.

Sunday was ‘family’ day and her attendance had been demanded for many years now. ‘Dad’ would not tolerate tardiness of any kind either. Even on days when his ailment got the better of him, her phone would fire up if she wasn't there by breakfast. She wasn't late today, but she wished she had prepared herself a little more for the looming conversation ahead. Finally steeling her nerves, Duchess turned her key into the lock.

Yuki manned the stove as usual while Sasuke chopped breakfast vegetables for the omelets. Kenshin would most likely be sitting with Shingen out on the balcony.

“Morning, Duch--” Yuki started as he flipped sausages in the pan before her expression caught his attention. “You look like you've seen a ghost. What happened?”

“Well, I drove all night from the coast for starters…”

“The coast?” Sasuke froze in his chopping and set the knife aside, addressing her with his full attention now. “You only go out that way when something troubles you. What is it?”

Great, no way out of this with both of them alert now.

“After breakfast?” She pleaded. “No one will want to eat if I say anything now.”

A muscle ticked in Yuki's jaw as he plated the cooked meal in front of him. “It was the latest test results wasn't it?”

It took everything within her to keep from breaking down on the kitchen floor but a merciful deity somewhere lent her the strength to keep standing. The silent tear that slipped from her eye was a different matter.

“After breakfast,” Yuki nodded stiffly.

She sighed a breath of relief. It could only be put off a few more hours, but they would have one last normal breakfast together…

Duchess tapped her heels into the floor impatiently, the carpet preventing any evidence of her frazzled nerves.

Of all possible days to be late… why today?

This idea of Shingen's had sounded ridiculous at the last family breakfast when she had played the part of harbinger. Even more baffling was the fact that Kenshin agreed to it. Then it was announced she would lead this laughable venture. She knew the value of a powerful connection but did it really have to be her facing her best friend’s husband? Especially after her own post-wedding breakdown several months ago?

She had just started pacing when a familiar flash of red bolted around the corner leading to her private office.

“You're late!” She hissed as Yuki stopped in front of her, only one arm properly suited by his blazer. “They're already in there!”

“Sorry, I can't control a funeral procession.”

She huffed as she helped straighten the disheveled jacket onto his shoulders. “You can leave earlier, you know, not five minutes before you're guaranteed tardy.”

“Whatever,” he threw his hands in the air before reaching for her door handle.

Duchess planted her hand on the edge of the door, preventing Yuki from opening it. “Before we go in there, beware I'm not holding any punches. I need to know you'll be able to handle that.”

“I'm good.” Yuki rolled his eyes.

“You sure? You swear on your St. Thomas beach house?”

“Ugh, what is it with you and that property?”

“It's St. Thomas! I honestly don't understand why you don't fly out every chance you get.”

Another eye roll and a sigh of resignation. “Fine! I swear on my St. Thomas beach house that I am good and I dare you to throw your hardest hits.”

“Double dog dare?” She grinned now, knowing her attempt to lighten the mood was working by the visible drop in his shoulders. The phrase from their childhood usually only appeared in these moments before a business battle, but still always worked as intended.

Without waiting for a verbal answer, Duchess swung the door open and allowed Yuki to enter before her. A decision she immediately regretted when that familiar honey-laced voice snapped out a ‘lap dog’ comment.

Great, back to damage control again...

“Now, now, gentleman,” Duchess chastised lightly as she graced the room and pulled the attention to her, squashing whatever rebuttal Yuki was about to snap out. “We're here to play nice and discuss business.”

Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Mitsuhide each claimed a spot on one of her two matching couches while Sasuke and Yukimura held place on the other. A company lawyer stood to the side while the three visitors finished signing confidentiality contracts.

“Business with such security that you couldn't inform us of it in your invite?” Nobunaga questioned.

“And forcing us into essential gag orders?” From Mitsuhide.

“Ah,” Duchess acknowledged as she took a place on the couch opposite Nobunaga. “Apologies for any inconvenience but I will not risk any leaks of information that could cause panic among our shareholders or the public. Aside from Kenshin, Shingen, and us three, everything we discuss here today will be the first it has been spoken to anyone and it has not been written anywhere within the company database. As far as any outside this room are concerned, I invited you to my office for a friendly luncheon--”

A knock sounded from the closed door.

“--And that would be our cover.”

Yuki answered the door and retrieved two large bags clearly marked with a restaurant’s logo from downtown.

Nobunaga's eyebrow arched in amusement as the fragrant mass was set upon the coffee table. “Mercutio’s?”

“Princess's recommendation.” A shrugged shoulder from Duchess while she pulled a covered box with her name on it. “I did say it was a luncheon. I'm not so evil as to lie about feeding someone. We'll discuss business second.”

Nobunaga ate quietly, typing away on his phone. Duchess was the same, barely completing three bites between buzzes. Yuki happily chewed away on his bite of steak while watching her fingers. Once she put the device down again, he snatched it away and dropped it into the seat cushion crevice.

“Excuse?!” She whispered vehemently as she got up to retrieve it. “Give that back!”

He slid to cover the crevice where her hand was reaching, forcing her to retreat. “You can have it back after you eat.”

“I am not Shingen, I don't need mothering.”

“Apparently you do!” The red-suited vice president snickered as he batted away her attempt to push him out of the way.

“Same for you,” Hideyoshi spoke for the first time since entering the office, mimicking Yuki’s actions and pulling Nobunaga's phone from his fingers.

“It's Princess, not work.”

“I don't care, she'll understand. Eat.”

Everyone finished their lunch in silence after that as the two heads of the room pouted through the rest of theirs. With the awkward meal out of the way, Duchess rose from her seat--after unceremoniously snatching her phone back from Yuki's clutches-- and leaned upon the edge of her desk, crossing a heeled ankle over the other.

“So, now for the real reason you're all here. Uesugi-Takeda Technologies would like to open discussions for a possible merge with Oda Tech.”

Hideyoshi had just started sipping his water when that piece of information almost choked him. He managed to catch the gulp and direct it down the correct pipe before verifying the absurdity she had just spoken. “A merger? With us?”

“Precisely,” she grinned triumphantly. “I'm sure you're all wondering ‘why on Earth is UTT interested in a merger?’ And ‘why in the hell would they ever consider Oda?’ Correct?”

A bark of laughter escaped Nobunaga. “My thoughts, exactly.”

“Sasuke.”

The vice president in question passed identical grey portfolios-- all bearing the UTT logo-- to each of three men in front of him before returning back to Duchess's side. Hideyoshi immediately opened up and began poring over the information while Mitsuhide glanced over the second half of the reports. Nobunaga laid the folder over his crossed thigh without breaking Duchess’s gaze, that overly smug smirk never leaving his features.

Duchess suppressed an irritated sigh as she continued. “These progress reports cover the last three decades for all major rivals in our targeted market. Oda Tech is, of course, the most well-rounded corporation as well as the most successful. Joining forces would ensure both of our companies’ futures and finally lay this ongoing rivalry to rest.”

“That answers the second question,” Mitsuhide commented while his eyes remained trained on the documents in front of him. “What about the first? Why are you interested in a merger at all?”

Duchess paused at that, glancing to Yuki who gave her a stiff nod before crossing his arms over his chest like a shield from an inevitable blast. The silent communication seemed to reinforce her own resolve as well for she pushed from her perch at the edge of her desk and squared her shoulders.

The room fell into a deafening silence as disbelief played openly upon two of the men's faces. The third simply sported a grimace as if her statement had confirmed what he already suspected.

Hideyoshi blinked several times as he recovered, glancing from her to the two vice presidents. “Is there… are there any treatments?”

Sasuke nodded. “Several procedures have already been performed, from removing the masses to radiation therapy. Remission is achieved each time but only for a short time until it returns just as violently as before.”

“Surely there must be other methods?” Mitsuhide questioned.

“Oh, I'm sure there are,” Yuki chuckled darkly. “Takeda refuses further treatment… and his decision is firm.”

Silence enveloped the room again as they continued to process this new information.

“Should we decline the merge,” Nobunaga was the first to direct back to business. “What does the future of UTT look like?”

Duchess’s smile turned back into the polite businesswoman. “Then we continue as we always have. Should Kenshin choose early retirement, Sasuke is more than prepared to take his place. The same as Yukimura is to take Shingen's. I, of course, would remain here as well.”

“Should I choose that…” Yuki grumbled in a low voice Duchess hoped the visiting executives didn't hear.

“A reasonable request. Just give me a name and I'll get HR started on credentials.”

Nobunaga's grin grew into pure amusement. “Wonderful.”

Definitely look into this if you need something super gentle as an all in one cleansing pad or an exfoliant or both.

What I like: these cleansing pads are a great all in one option that not irritating and exfoliates gently. There is a very subtle natural fragrance and it disappears quickly. The ingredients are very nice and there are some unique ones in there and it also removes dirt and makeup without causing redness or tenderness. It's ideal for sensitive skin. What I don't like: nothing really, the fragrance might irritate very sensitive people, however.
