I wish more people read Rave Master. It’s Mashimas first work and it is, in my opinion, a really good shounen story. You ever wish the main couples in Fairy Tail/Edens Zero were official? You like Siegrain/Mystogan/Jellal/Justice? You like how Mashima writes the side male characters like Gray and Weiss? You want to see the original Plue? Well I’ve got a series for you.

For what seemed like the millionth time that day, Lane sighed. It's not like they wanted to feel this way, really. The whole ship seemed to be down in the dumps. Lane couldn't help but feel like it was their fault. Rebecca wasn't as chatty and even Shiki was quiet. The weight of the silence was a bit too heavy for Lane to bear. Before they knew it, tears were sliding down their face into their soft fur.
"What's with all these waterworks, pretty?" a voice came from behind. With a sniff, Lane turned around to see Weisz in the doorway. With a blush, they quickly wiped their tears.
"N-nothing.. just feeling a little down, I guess."
Weisz walked and sat in the bed next to Lane and put his hand on their shoulder in comfort.
"Talk to me about it then."
"I... don't know where to start, really.."
Weisz looked into Lane's eyes and offered a small, genuine smile. "Try at the beginning- I hear it helps. What's got you so upset that you're cryin' in here instead of being in the common area?"
Swallowing a sniffle, Lane decided to share what's been on their mind. "Well.. I guess I feel like being an anihuman makes it hard for me to relate to you all, you know? It's ... I don't know Weisz. I know you probably find me silly to cry about something like that, but... I don't mean to be such a burden on everyone."
Lane sighed, but continued. "Shiki tries to joke around with me and it isn't like I understand the jokes until later, and Rebecca does seem to want to talk to me anymore. It's been this way for at least a few weeks, and I just can't t-take it anymore."
With a sob, the tears that had been so valiantly fought let loose. Lane covered their eyes to hide, but a pair of gentle, firm hands pulled them away.
"Hey. Look at me, Lane." Weisz's voice was quiet, filled with affection. He pulled Lane into a tight embrace.
"You're not a burden. Get that out of your pretty little mind right now. Second, what does being half animal and half human have to do with anything? You do know half our crew are androids and cyborgs, right? None of us are what we seem. So please," he whispered, wiping away tears from Lane's face with his thumb before placing a kiss on their forehead. "Please stop thinking that. There's nothing wrong with you. Shiki and Rebecca have some things they're dealing with but it has nothing to do with you."
Lane pulled away from Weisz's embrace and sniffles, giving him a small smile. "Thank you, Weisz. Really."
The blond smiled. "Don't thank me, I'm just bein' honest. Now, come with me. I wanna show you a really nice view from the observatory." Weisz held his hand out for them to take.
With a small nod, Lane took Weisz's hand and followed him quietly through the Edens Zero. When they arrived, a loud "Surprise!" could be heard through the halls.
"Wh-what? What's this?" Lane asked. Weisz gave them a large grin.
"It's for you, silly!" Shiki exclaimed. "Weisz said you've been down in the dumps, so we wanted to do a little something to celebrate you!" Rebecca jumped up to give Lane a giant hug, squeezing them tight.
"Come on! Witch made us some cake. I'm really excited to try it, let's go!" The blonde pulled Lane toward the table where plates and dishes filled with lovely food and pastries sat waiting.
In one of the seats, Sister sat with a smug grin on her face. "See, told ya they'd love it! I'm ready to dig in and eat."
"You guys..." Lane started crying, completely overwhelmed with the kindness their friends had showed them. "You didn't have to do this..."
"Sure we did," Hermit said quietly. "We can't have you upset over something you can't control. You're one of us, and that much we do know. Don't ever forget it, kay?"
Weisz put his arm around Lane's shoulders and gave them a squeeze. "See? You're perfectly you, and we all love you."
Lane realized on that day, that just because someone is different, doesn't mean they weren't wholly loved. At that was perfectly fine with them.

as much as i’d like to see mashima work harder on the 100 yq (as in actually try to make the relationship between natsu and lucy progress) i’m actually concerned for his well-being. it’s already well known that manga artists work themselves to death, and with everything mashima has to do it wouldn’t surprise me if he just went on total hiatus. he’s been working on the 100yq, writing and drawing the storyboard, while fully writing and drawing eden’s zero, and now he has to finish up EZ in order to begin a new series (that he has been told to make by some producers or something).
i can only speak for myself but i don’t want a million different stories from mashima. i love his way of completely devoting himself to the one he’s currently making, because when he does that he writes absolute masterpieces. the thing with all of these stories is that he risks writing them in poorer quality - which he refuses, so instead he overworks himself. i’ve always been a great fan of mashima, no matter what other people say about him, because his stories are full of meaningful messages that bring hope and comfort to the people reading them. i know fairy tail is one of the biggest influencers on how most of us grew up - and for me it has been no different. the impact these stories have on people’s lives is wonderful and amazing, and that’s thanks to his great investment in his work.
to criticise his writing at times isn’t saying that we don’t like mashima. we criticise because he managed to make a story so great that we want to call it our own - that’s how amazing they are.
i just wanted to spread some light to his amazing work, and how he’s also sadly likely to be working too hard. he’s great, i’m so thankful for everything he’s doing, and i want the best for him (one day i will pinch him for not making nalu canon sooner lol)

Still losing my mind over chapter 204 and the time travel situation that’s been revealed and I haven’t seen any posts about it so I have to babble here 😭. I’m honestly quite surprised and pleased at how cohesive Mashima’s plot is turning out in terms of time travel, alternate universes, and the consequences of choices. I read somewhere that he has a plan for how Eden’s Zero will end, as opposed to the plot of Fairy Tail which was supposed to end earlier but got popular so he continued it, and it’s really showing! A proper space opera!! But it totally confirmed some theories I had for Rebecca’s power and I can’t stop screaming.
The interplay between time and gravity is turning out super interesting, and I’m really looking forward to how the concept of life plays into it, what with Mother being the source of human life. The fact that Shiki’s gravity ether power seems to be capable of pulling in time and memories is super fucking cool. It really seems to relate to the science behind black holes and how spacetime is affected where time is extremely slow near black holes due to their intense gravity. The explosion in Universe 2 seems like it created some kind of black hole or a worm hole or something and is why they find themselves so far in the future, which is rad and I hope Mashima keeps bringing in more science based stuff. Also, the fact that Shiki’s (reckless and idealistic) choice to save everyone on one planet led to the creation of an entity determined to end all organic life is honestly so fucking metal, I love this shit.
And all of the 20,000 years later snippets we got always gave me a foreboding feeling and this chapter confirmed it, I couldn’t stop crying. The moment Witch said that Rebecca had the makings of an Etherion user (can’t remember which chapter or if it was after 204), I had a deep suspicion that either Rebecca or some form of her power was Etherion, since Mashima likes to make callbacks to previous works, and Etherion was Resha’s power in Rave Master. The panel when robot Shiki sees Rebecca dead was just heartbreaking and the composition of the light and placement of angles was fab. I love those kids so much 😭💕 I know people are comparing it to Fairy Tail (WHICH I ADORE AND I LOVE THOSE KIDS, IT WAS ONE OF MY FIRST ANIMES) but space and magic are different lol, and I love how dark Mashima is going with this but also still hopeful. Fun adventures but also gritty space travel, the best of both worlds! Apparently the dark, space theme isn’t as popular in Japan according to what I’ve read from other posts, but I live for the angst, so I’m excited for what he has planned (though the hyper-sexualisation tropes I can live without, but at this point I expect it and just move along).

An appreciation for Shounen as a genre.
I don’t typically watch or read too many shounen series, I’ve only seen Fairy Tail, Edens Zero and I don’t quite count Assassination Classroom and Bungou Stray Dogs. But if I’m ever feeling down or out of it, I turn to shounen.
I started reading Rave Master last night, and it’s so simple… in a good way. In many seinen, romance, and drama anime, you have to do all the work for it. You have to find out the motives, the emotions, the reason. But shounen is so refreshingly simple. The character wants to do the thing, so they do it. To quote Okuda from Assassination Classroom “I don’t need… complicated words”.
In shounen, I think we can all learn how to gain confidence and go out and do it, because we see all kinds of characters doing all sorts of things that are more challenging than what we do on the daily.
That’s it, that’s the post
