Rewatched the vld pilot i have uhhhh opinions-
First things first, it was good!!! Like both as entertainment and as writing wise it was good!!! It sets up the characters and introduces the plot really well, it was good ok! It was good!!
It also hurt SO MUCH knowing what happens later on like both because so many things in the pilot gets undermined or completely forgotten and because the show really had a lot of potential
Like it sets up so many themes that really didnt go anywhere- Shiro's backstory, whatever shitty energy thing Keith has, Lance's potential arc, Allura's arc, Lion bond, destiny etc etc
It feels so nice to be vindicated about Hunk. Like he is bitchy! He loves to complain! He will go through your personal stuff! I love him, he is kind but absolutely not nice, i love him!
Could have done with less fat jokes though like ugh stop
Also Lance really was great here, like i might be biased but like he was genuinely more complex than people give him credit for. Like he is showboaty, a jerk and a pompous cunt, but he is also great at noticing what people need, making right snap decisions under a lot of pressure, knowing when to jump in but also when to not do that and is genuinely kind and accepting, but also all of this undermined by his fucking personality
Also where are my 1000 and 1 fics of Lance who genuinely thought he saw Hunk die and when the battle is over he is getting a bit protective of Hunk to the point of being overbearing.
And i love how Coran and Lance did not like each other makes whatever is going to happen next all the more compelling
Also why the fuck do people act like Lance bullied poor Keith like the garrison trio are WAY bitchier and meaner towards each other, like Keith is not a victim and he's definately not passive and defenseless about it either he was literally calling Lance a non essential weight
Also speaking of Keith, he was BARELY there, like aside from the story taking its time to go on about how special and amazing Keith is, the bike and the red lion scene he was just barely there. Like the others felt like they were present even when the scene wasnt focusing on them but you can easily forget Keith is supposed to be there
Like seriously even Shiro was more focused with Pidge
Like no wonder they had to screw over and undermine the entire cast and the plot to make Keith the Protagonist™ because otherwise he would not have been this popular
They should have kept this trend honestly
Also god i missed Pidge being actually interesting and likable, like she was flawed and could be mean but also just a girl desperate to find her family, god if only LM didnt decide to make her a flawless self insert
I still think they should have killed her father and/or her brother, like just for the flavour it would have been great
Hell she was trying to save the prisoners who even fucking Shiro was ready to abandon! Granted it was to look for her family but still!!
Also Allura!! My girl Allura!! God she didnt deserve any of this shit!!
Like she tries so hard to be strong and lead and save universe but also god! But also it was just so clear that the loss of Altea was breaking her and she only Just started to process it
"You must sacrifice everything to form voltron" petition to bring back Alfor AI just so i can kick its ass again, cause like SHUT UP!! SHUT THE FUCK UP! NO SHE DOES NOT! SHE ALREADY LOST SO MUCH AND SHE WILL LOSE SO MUCH LIKE HOW DARE YOU! HOW FUCKING DARE YOU!!!
"If i could i would take the burden away from you" THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN FORESHADOWING! HE SHOULD HAVE CAME BACK TO SAVE ALLURA AND TELL HER THAT SHE MUST LIVE NOW! THAT SHE DIDNT NEED TO SACRIFICE HERSELF! HE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN HER BURDEN! I AM GOING TO FUCKING LOSE IT!! SHUT UP! SHUT UPPP!!!!
Sendak is..... twinkier than i remember
"We must wipe out that filthy race, once and for all!" Zarkon says about the Altean race while his Altean wife whom he claims to love is right there
Anyway yup this was my experience, i loved the pilot

reminding myself on this busy morning that i also have dreams of taking piano lessons & singing lessons & also honing my writing skills & absorbing as many books as i used to when i was a kid & at the very least taking up cute tennis dates & dabbling into art & just becoming an artistic generalist. also reminding myself that there are pre-meds out there who managed to pursue something they’re passionate in (some are even professional athletes) & still excelled in medicine & if they can do it so can I

u r 16 , i hope u come to a more nuanced and intelligent pov when you grow up
did you know : the way that ppl get more nuanced opinions is by having respectful arguements with people and hearing other perspectives, sending an ask saying "ur opinion is bad" with zero elaboration is not helpful or constructive, as i have said previously im open to people talking to me about things, its just that you are not open to having a conversation because you think that my critique is somehow less valid because of my age
ive gotten multiple asks like this and i genuinely dont understand what the goal is besides uh, being mean to people so you can feel better about yourself on the internet and because youre too much of a coward to actually talk to people off of anon or explain any of your opinions
again, this isnt constructive or helpful or productive, its trying to look like it is without any of the actual legwork that goes into that, please learn how to interpret text before you speak to people on the internet :3 and, when youre losing in an arguement maybe bringing up things people have zero control over and cant change isnt a good look, there is no prerequisite age for having an opinion

important personal jason characterization 2 me is that part of “coming back wrong” is that he cannot feel his past self. he remembers his past but hes completely severed from himself pre-death, that version of him is distinctly gone. being a living person is like a russian doll with your younger selves layered inside of you & rattling around but resurrected jason is just the outer shell russian doll constantly aware of how unnaturally hollow his inside is

In Ep45 Desperate Measures, Minkowski really needs the SI-5 (particularly Jacobi) to believe that she will shoot Maxwell if they don't back down. In that particular situation, she's desperate to be seen as unafraid and ruthless. If she can convince the SI-5 that she is willing to kill Maxwell, she can avoid having to find out whether she is. Only by giving the impression of being relaxed about violence can she avoid having to commit it.
But her hands betray her. As Minkowski points the gun, Maxwell notices how "her hands are shaking. A lot." Minkowski can't hide that sign of how on edge she is, no matter how much she might want to. Maxwell tells this to Jacobi with a little laugh, giving it as evidence for her certainty that Minkowski won't kill her. Jacobi believes Maxwell's assessment of the situation, but her assumptions are wrong; Minkowski fires that gun with her trembling hands. She's not the sort of person who can kill with steady hands, ruthless and unafraid. But she can still kill.
Later, in Ep53 Dirty Work, Minkowski claims "even in that moment, I didn't mean to do it... the noise. The explosion. It was a reflex. I think it was." I don't entirely believe this explanation of the incident, but I do think there is probably some element of instinctive motion involved when Minkowski pulls that trigger. In which case - contrary to Maxwell's assumptions - the lack of calm suggested by Minkowski's shaking hands could have actually contributed to her shooting Maxwell. If her hands are shaking, her reflexes are probably tensed, and her finger is trembling on the trigger, which just needs one small movement to fire...

Last day of the year, started with vld rewatch episode 2 (it is like 3 am right now)
Again just like the pilot, this episode was good!!! It did well establishing the characters dynamics as well as weaknesses
But also it HURTS knowing what is going to happen
For eg Lance was good in giving support (last one before Shiro to go down in shield exercise) is emotionally open but kinda kicks his own ass trying to be showboaty, fighting Keith and not taking this seriously, Pidge is more focused on The Mission (especially her family) but struggles with being vulnerable and providing support, Hunk kinda lacks the confidence in himself and his teammates and is often disagreeing with Shiro and Allura, Shiro is better in lots of these especially the lion bond but freezes due to PTSD, Keith is there to angrily yell at people and that is it
That being said it is kinda funny when he was the one who come up with stacking lions thing, i'll give credit where it is due
Also Shiro is the first to bond with Lion, Blue waited 10k years for Lance and chose him out of everyone. Why couldnt we keep this?? Why change it? Just why? Lion change continues to my enemy
I'll do more later but i am sleepy it is 3 am now

The people who want supports removed from FE don't quite seem to understand that bloating the main story or plot significant script to make every single character relevant is terrible for pacing in a video game, especially for RPGs.
Actually, now that I think about it, lots of criticism from certain sects of the community towards FE writing quality and supports and the subsequent suggestions towards 'fixing' the alleged issues always seem to misunderstand how video games as a storytelling medium should be constructed so to not exhaust the player. Limiting player interactivity and agency (e.g. no supports or potential character building and the gameplay benefits as rewards for that) to such a degree is just as bad as bloating a game with too many mechanics, gameplay styles, or resources to manage (i.e. the common criticisms for 3H and Engage).
Not to mention that if you don't have some kind of material to flesh out characters, you get a Radiant Dawn scenario where most of the new cast are flat as boards, or an Echoes scenario where it's very easy to miss extra backstory if you don't visit villages at specific points in the campaign.
The video in question that's floating around regarding this topic mentions that Path of Radiance's base conversations would be an appropriate replacement, but... Path of Radiance had both base convos and supports. New Mystery and Echoes did this as well! 3H did it too, with its only issue being an extension of the problem that silent/dialogue choice centered avatars can create. It never had to be one or the other, and it's strange that it's presented as such.
Now, supports as a system can definitely be revamped or trimmed, I agree with that. But removing them entirely? When those are a major factor for why the series has now achieved mainstream popularity? Nah, lmao.

doing a reread of the lockwood books and-
Show!Lucy: I am traumatized by the death of my female best friend whom I was best friends with. I know how to do a perfect smokey eye. I never wanted to be an agent and am easily frightened, but I am otherwise Talented and empathetic. I wish I was dead, but not as much as Lockwood. I eat biscuits funny.
Book!Lucy: I hate anything remotely feminine so much. I have Zero female friends for a solid three books. I'm incredibly nosy and need to know everything, all the time, especially if it's about Lockwood. I don't wish I was dead but I wish I could kill. In fact I can, and I have.
Both: Brown women make me extremely jealous and insecure. Chucking things (e.g. swords) is a valid solution to most problems.
