Sunoo.
You can’t remember when or how you developed a crush on him. It all happened quickly, like a train passing by on a rainy day. With one blink of your eyes, one beat of your heart, one breath in your lungs, suddenly all you could think about was him. Night and day, first thing when you wake up in the morning and last thing when you fall asleep late at night. Your mind is filled with him, his smile, his laugh, his eyes, his mouth.
And watching him right now sitting at a table with two of your other colleagues, laughing and talking, drives a knife right through your heart, twists it and leaves you bleeding.
Sunoo has always had a flirty personality, compliments flying left and right when you spend time with him. It’s part of him to wink at everyone after saying yet another flirty comment, or placing his hand on peoples’ shoulders when he laughs. And you know he never means it serious. That’s just the way he is, the way he always has been. But it bothers you, because you don’t know what it means when he does those things with you. You don’t know if he sees you as just a friend, or more. You don’t even know if he could ever consider you as anything more than what you already are.
“Maybe you should stop staring at him because it’s slowly getting creepy.”, Jungwon, another one of your colleagues and your closest friends, says with a teasing grin on his face. He knows about your crush, because while you succeed in hiding it from Sunoo, everyone else in your life has guessed it after just spending a few hours with you. “I still don’t get why you don’t just go and confess to him.”
“Because…”, you answer, a sigh escaping your lips as you divert your gaze away from your crush and look at your friend instead. “The possibility of him rejecting me is pretty high. And we work together, every single day. I don’t want it to get awkward or make him feel uncomfortable.”
“Did you ever think about the possibility of him returning your feelings?” A laugh bubbles out of your throat after your friends’ question. Of course, you have. You have thought about Sunoo liking you back, but you quickly threw those thoughts away. Never has he shown any signs of feeling the same thing. He has always treated you the way he treats everyone else as well, there is nothing special there. And yet you still get your hopes up every single time he looks at you.
“Yeah, no. Jungwon I don’t think he likes me back.” Your friend blows out a breath before taking his phone out, typing furiously. “What are you doing?”
“I am searching for something.” A few seconds pass with your friends’ eyes skipping over his phone, typing every now and then before scrolling again. You wait patiently, stabbing at the food on your plate every now and then, eyes drifting to a certain someone more times than you want to admit. It’s hard not to look at him, to get engrossed with him. He is so captivating, his beauty lighting up the whole room. He has a presence that shines brighter than the sun. “There you go.”
Jungwon lays his phone down on the table, turning it around so you can see the things he has typed down in his notes. “How to impress your crush. Really, Jungwon? This is what you wrote down for the past few minutes?”
“This is a good plan, Y/n. You want Sunoo to like you, don’t you?” You nod your head carefully, eyes flickering to said boy just to see him already looking at you. He shows you one of his bright smiles, before looking at the people sitting at his table again. “Then just follow these steps and I promise you, by the end of the month Sunoo is going to be madly in love with you.”
1. Learn your crushes interests
Breathe in, breathe out, you repeat to yourself as you enter the kindergarten you work in. Just breathe and everything will be alright. But as soon as you see Sunoo sitting at a table with two children, your mind already begins to panic again. Seeing Sunoo with little kids has never been easy to you, melting at the gentle way he was playing with them. The children look up to him, idolize him, obsess over him. You get them, honestly, because you aren’t any different.
Jungwon and you spent the last two days gathering information on Sunoos interests, thinking of any possible way of engaging in those interests, figuring out how to approach him without being too obvious.
Upon seeing you, a bright smile appears on the boy’s face. Sunoo makes a move to stand up, to greet you, but the small child in front of him pulls him down again, complaining about not being done playing the game with him. You just show him an understanding smile, before putting your things down and starting to prepare breakfast for the kids.
“You need help with that?”, you hear a voice behind you, startling you out of your thoughts. You look up to see Sunoo standing beside you, gentle smile on his face.
“Oh, yeah, sure. You can cut the carrots if you want to.” He nods happily, grabbing a knife and doing your assignments immediately. Your gaze shifts to him every now and then, your head spinning with possible topics to start a conversation between the two of you. But every time you open your mouth to say something, your body stops you and you end up biting the words on your tongue.
“You look really tired today.”, Sunoo says, breaking the silence between the two of you. “I don’t mean that in a mean way, you still look beautiful, Y/n. I just want to ask if everything’s okay?”
Your cheeks turn into a faded shade of crimson, and you have to tell yourself to keep calm, before answering his question. “Yeah, uhm, I’m fine. I just stayed up the whole night watching a K-Drama and didn’t get much sleep.”
“A K-Drama?” A gasp escapes the boys’ lips, and his wide eyes look excitedly into yours. You smile at him, mimicking his excitement. “I love K-Dramas. I always watch them; I mean there is not a day going by where I am not watching one. What did you watch yesterday?”
“I finished watching 21st century girl.” Another gasp leaves Sunoos’ lips and you can’t help the chuckle that escapes you this time, enjoying his reactions.
“How did you like it? I cried my eyes out when I first watched it. I mean, I always cry whenever I watch it.”
“Yeah, I cried too. That’s another reason why I couldn’t sleep last night. I just kept on thinking about it and whenever I did the tears just streamed down my face. I couldn’t even stop it anymore.” Sunoo laughs slightly, nodding his head at your words.
“Yeah, I get what you mean. I’ve been there too. Do you watch a lot of K-Dramas or is it something you recently started doing?” A bright smile lights up your face. He is asking you questions about yourself. He is actually showing interest in you. Maybe Jungwons’ plan wasn’t so bad after all.
“Honestly, I just started getting into it. I’m currently trying to get through all the ones available on Netflix and I am honestly starting to get obsessed. Like what are they putting into those shows to make them so addicting?”
“Yeah, right? It’s like once you started watching K-Dramas, you can’t escape them anymore.” Sunoo turns his body to you after cutting the last carrot, hip leaning against the counter. “If you want to, I can make you a list with good ones to watch. I think I am an expert at this point, judging by the number of dramas I watched so far.”
“Oh, yeah that would be so nice of you, Sunoo.”, you tell him honestly. Your eyes meet his for a second, but you can’t face him for a long time. He stands so close to you, eyes not leaving your face for a second. It makes you flustered, lets you feel exposed under his burning gaze. That’s the effect he has on you. It’s easy for him to get you flustered, make you a stuttering self-conscious mess.
“I will get to it as soon as I’m home, I promise.”
-
There is a process between you and Sunoo, it’s small, but it’s there. Every break the two of you sit together, talking about one of the dramas he recommended, gossiping about characters and philosophizing about the deeper meanings, the hidden messages. You laugh, you smile, you grow. But it is still not enough, not enough to confess, and not enough to know if he feels the same about you.
But luckily you overheard a conversation Sunoo had with one of the other colleagues, talking about foods, snacks, desserts. So, it really wasn’t a surprise that you showed up the next day with his favorite ice cream in your back.
“Is that mint chocolate ice cream?” You smile at Sunoos question, seeing that your plan succeeded. You turn around to him, ice cream still in your hand, cocking your head at the boy in front of you.
“Yeah. Why? Do you also like it?”
“Like it? That doesn’t even come close. I love it.” He shows you a bright smile, eyes gleaming like those of a little child in a toy shop. “I didn’t think I would meet another person that likes mint chocolate. Every single one of my friends hates it. They make fun of me all the time for eating it.”
“Doesn’t sound like your friends have taste, because mint chocolate is an amazing flavor.” Sunoo nods in agreement, softly laughing at your statement. “I guess I found myself a new person to share this ice cream with. I can never finish this whole bowl by myself.” Taking out two spoons, you reach your arm out to offer him one of them. He happily takes it, sitting down right beside you, so close you almost forget how to breathe for a few seconds.
“I guess I found myself a new favorite colleague.”
2. Engage in more conversations
You curse under your breath as you read Jungwons’ message telling you the next step of your plan. Until now Sunoo started almost all the conversations with you. It isn’t like you don’t want to talk to him, there is nothing you want more, you just don’t know how. As soon as you stand in front of him, looking into his beautiful eyes, hearing his breathtaking voice, your brain stops working, your mouth loses the ability to form sentences and your breath only comes in rapid hiccups. It’s embarrassing, awkward, humiliating. That’s why you have been avoiding starting any conversation, but there is no way around it anymore. If you really want him to like you, to be intrigued by you, you have to make more first steps. This being the first one.
“Y/n, you came” Sunoo exclaims as he sees you enter the apartment of one of his friends. Two days ago, you found out that Sunoo and Jungwon have a shared friend named Jake, and that said friend just moved into town a few days prior. Jake decided to throw a little party for him and his friends, asking them to invite them their friends as well. Jungwon immediately sent you a text, informing you of the party and asking you to tag along with him. At first you were opposed, not being the type to go to parties or even socialize with anyone that wasn’t in your close friend group, but when Jungwon told you that Sunoo was also going to be there, you immediately agreed to come with him.
“Hey Sunoo.” You ignore Jungwons teasing chuckle behind you at the crack of your voice and show Sunoo a charming smile instead. “You look great.”
“Thank you, Y/n, that’s so nice of you.” Sunoos’ smile turns your stomach around, shakes it and drops it to the floor. Fogginess covers your brain, and you have to blink a few times to make sure you don’t drift back into the awkwardness you adapt as a habit whenever Sunoo speaks to you. “How about I show you around a bit? Jake is busy trying to figure out how to open a Champagne bottle, so we have some time before he will want to meet you.”
You nod at him, smiling brightly, and nervously taking his outstretched hand. You almost forgot Jungwon was still standing behind you, but quickly get reminded as he gives you a small nudge in Sunoos’ direction, making you stumble forward. Giving Jungwon a stern, but yet slightly appreciative look for bringing your back into reality, you follow Sunoo around the apartment. He shows you the bedroom, the bathroom, living room, kitchen and lastly the balcony. It’s where the two of you stop, taking in the view of the bright stars in the night sky.
“I used to always watch the stars with my mom.”, you start speaking, gathering all your nerves before continuing with your story. “My mom was obsessed with stars, their alignments, their meanings. She would tell me about all the constellations. When my dad passed away, she would always tell me that he is up there now, in the stars. That he is the brightest star in the night sky, watching over us every single hour of the day, even when we can’t see him. I would spend hours staring up at the stars, talking to the brightest one thinking it was my dad. I told him about my day, my thoughts, my worries and dreams.” Sunoo listens to you attentively, eyes never leaving your face while yours are focused at the million little lights shining in the sky.
“I really thought it was real, you know. I still think so. Every now and then I still talk to him, to his star, and I tell him about my life.” You smile to yourself, searching for the star in the sky and when you find it, you can’t help the sigh of relief escaping your lips. “I believe it because when my mom passed away a few years later, a star appeared right beside the one of my dad. I like to think that it’s them, watching over me. That even death couldn’t bring them apart.”
“Wow.”, Sunoo says, eyes not being able to leave your face. He can’t help the emotions he is feeling, sadness, grief, compassion, admiration. “Thank you for sharing this beautiful story with me. And I believe so too.” Sunoo scoots a bit closer to you, following your gaze up into the sky. “I think they are watching over you right now and I think that they are proud of the person you became, proud of every single thing you achieved so far.”
You smile softly, swallowing the tears that threaten to fall down on your cheeks. “Thank you, Sunoo. God, this means so much to me.” But before any of you can say anything a voice calls out to Sunoo, asking him to come in again.
“Guess Jake needs my help. Sorry we have to cut this short, but I really enjoyed spending more time with you, Y/n. I feel like I learn something new about you every single day.”
-
“No, Dylan. It’s not nice to take away someone else’s toy. How would you feel if someone took away your teddy bear?” The little boy in front of you sniffles a few times, wiping his eyes as small little tears roll down his cheek. This was the fourth time that he was taking away other kids toys and no matter how often you tell him to stop it, trying to get him to understand that it hurts the other children when he does that, he never seems to understand it. And while you know such behavior is a call for attention, it still frustrates you to tell him the same thing over and over again.
“You wouldn’t like that as well, right? That’s why you shouldn’t do it to the other children here as well. They want to play with the toys just as much as you do.” The little boy seems to only cry harder as your words, and you feel the patience running out of your system. Watching the whole encounter from further away, Sunoo sees you struggling. He sees that you need help.
“Dylan, come here.” The little boy waddles over to Sunoo, taking a seat on the older boys’ lap, looking at him with his big doe eyes. “You know what happens when you take someone’s toy away?” The little boy shakes his head. “It hurts the other person’s feelings. You take away something that brought them a lot of joy, and for a moment you take that joy away. That isn’t nice, is it?”
Sunoo gently wipes away his tears, showing him a soft encouraging smile. “Next time instead of stealing a toy from somehow, how about you ask them if you can have that toy? And if they say no, you can either wait until they are done playing with that toy, or you can ask them if they have another toy you can play with until they are done. How does that sound? Is that a good compromise?” Dylan nods his head, a small smile appearing on the boy’s face. “Thank you for listening and thank you for agreeing to the compromise. You can go back to playing now.”
You shake your head as you step closer to Sunoo. It never fails to impress you just how good Sunoo is with kids, always knowing the right things to say, always having a solution to every problem. “How are you so good with kids? Do you have younger siblings? A niece? A nephew?”
Sunoo chuckles at your words, shrugging his shoulders. “Nope, I have an older sister. That’s it.” He stands up again, dusting off his pants. “I guess I’ve just always been good with kids. I always wanted to work with them, and of course have some when I’m older.”
“You are going to be an amazing dad.” Those words slip out of your mouth before you can stop them, and as soon as they are out in the open, you drop your head in your hands with a groan, too embarrassed to look at the boy in front of you.
“Hey, no need to be embarrassed about your words.” Sunoo lays a comforting hand on your shoulder, not knowing that his touch is making it worse for you. “I really appreciate your words. You don’t know how much they mean to me.”
You just nod at him, head still buried in your hands, waiting for the blood that rushed into your cheeks to fade again. “Y/n.”, he calls out your name, lifting your head with his fingers, so you can’t do anything but to look at him. “I think that you are going to be an amazing mother as well.”
3. Make them laugh
Humor hasn’t been your greatest strength so far. You have always been too awkward to perform a joke with confidence, to make the whole room laugh or even slightly snicker at things you say. Jungwon swears you are one of the funniest people he has ever met, you think that he is biased and that it doesn’t count since he is your close friend and Sunoo is your crush. You could never joke with Sunoo the way you do with him.
Jungwon also told you to maybe search up a few jokes you think Sunoo would like and drop them at a random- fitting- time. You emphasized that it wouldn’t end well, that you would turn the situation awkward, the way you always do. But Jungwon just said to be confident, to trust in yourself and the process you made so far with Sunoo. Easier said than done, because while you stand beside him in the kitchen of the kindergarten, preparing their lunch, you find no right way to tell any of the jokes you spent hours trying to remember the whole night.
“You want to hear a joke?” Stupid. That was definitely the worst approach for this. Straight up asking him wasn’t what you had in mind, not at all. You wanted to be smooth about it, waiting for the right time. But as the right time never came, you got nervous. And the more nervous you get, the more likely you forget every piece of information in your head, including the jokes.
“Sure, why not? I always like a good joke.”
“I can’t promise you it’s good. All I can tell you is that they made me chuckle.” Sunoo turns his body to you, a sign you learned that shows you he is putting all his attention on you. You take a deep breath, wiping your sweaty hands on your pants. “How do you make an eggroll? You push it.”
Silence. Gruesome silence fills the space for a few seconds, and you know this was it. You just ripped apart the small chance you had with Sunoo, with one joke. Everything you worked on for the past weeks, you just tossed out of the window in not even ten seconds. You make yourself ready to dig a grave and bury yourself deep in it, never ever showing your face to anyone again. But before you can do that, a laugh tumbles out of the boy’s throat. An actual laugh, and it grows the more time passes. All you can do is watch him with wide eyes and mouth hung open.
Sunoo holds his stomach, wiping his eyes as he still laughs at your joke. “That was the worst joke I’ve ever heard.” He still lets out a few giggles, tipping his head back. Sunoo takes a few breaths, trying to calm himself down before facing you again. “Please tell me you have more of those jokes.”
You nod at him, still not processing the scene in front of you. But when you realize Sunoo is watching you with expecting eyes, you snap yourself out of your haze, telling him another joke you learned. “What do lawyers wear to court? Lawsuits.” And yet again the boy in front of you breaks out into another fit of laughter, but this time you join in, slightly chuckling at your own joke.
-
It has become a thing between the two of you. Whenever Sunoo needed to hear a joke, he would ask you to tell him one and proceed to laugh at it just the way he did the first time. Your confidence grew the more jokes you told, getting bolder and bolder with them. And Sunoo seems to love it, since he searches for you more often the past few days.
“I had the worst day.”, he says after the last parent left the kindergarten with their child. “First of all, I overslept today, and came way too late as you probably noticed. Then, as a punishment I got assigned to clean pretty much everything, but guess what, three children decided to throw up today and I had to clean it up. And to top that, I just got into an argument with a parent, because apparently their child isn’t getting educated probably in this kindergarten? Like excuse me, we are a kindergarten not a school. Your children aren’t here to learn math or geometry, they are here to play, make friends and prepare themselves for school.”
Sunoo drops his head on your shoulder. He has also been getting bolder when it comes to initiating physical touch with you. He is a very touchy person, you’ve seen it with his other friends, but noticing that he is adapting those same habits with you only shows you the progress you have been making. “I really, really need to hear one of your jokes right now.”
You smile at him, softly patting his head, but putting your hand down quickly after again. You have to hold yourself back from not engaging in those small touches, not wanting to overwhelm him or overstep any of his boundaries. “Okay, let me think about one.” Sunoo lifts his head again, looking at you with waiting eyes. “Why didn’t Han Solo enjoy his steak dinner? It was Chewie.”
And this moment right there, this short, sweet moment, is your favorite part. The moment when you can hear the soft sound of Sunoos’ laughter, the sweet melody filling your ears, warming you with the soft touch of joy. You can’t get enough of his laughter, wanting to hear it every single second of the day.
“How can you get better with every joke you are telling?”, he speaks between laughter, shaking his head in disbelief. “Oh, Y/n, you really do make my days so much better.”
4. Make subtle hints
After all those weeks, engaging into more conversations with Sunoo, getting to know him more and making him laugh countless times, you feel a lot more confident about the next step than you thought you would. Making hints, showing him, you are interested in him, doesn’t seem so frightening anymore. It suddenly seems so easy, as if you have been doing it all along already.
“I told you that you can do it.”, Jungwon exclaims, a bit too loudly, catching the looks of a few people around you in the small café the two of you decided to meet up. “I told you the list was going to work.”
“Hold your horses.”, you say, shaking your head at the boy in front of you. “Yes, we did grow closer, but nothing happened as well. I still don’t know if Sunoo likes me, or if he just thinks we are friends. I can’t be sure until he has told me.”
“You can be so stupid sometimes.” You frown at the words of your friend, not knowing what he means with that statement. “Come on, everyone can see from miles away how Sunoo is pinning over you. It’s extremely obvious.”
“You are reaching with that, Jungwon.” You can’t help but roll your eyes at him. Normally you appreciate Jungwon for feeding into your delusions, supporting your wishes, and routing for you and Sunoo, but with the real progress you made lately, this isn’t something you want to hear anymore. You want the truth, the honest truth. You don’t want the mindless support anymore; you want him to keep it real with you. “If he likes me back, I would have noticed that by now. And I haven’t. He isn’t even showing me any signs. Sunoo is treating me like he is treating his close friends.”
“You are so blind.” Ignoring that last comment, you take a bite of your cake, sighing at the familiar taste. “I still wish you luck with this step, Y/n. Let’s pray and hope you won’t embarrass yourself too much and ruin the chance you have with him.”
-
Sunoo smiles at you as he watches you enter the room again after leaving to put a band aid on a girl’s finger. It’s a Friday afternoon, twenty minutes before the parents are going to pick up their children. And you think it’s the perfect time to shoot your shot, to make the first move subtly hinting your crush to Sunoo.
“What are your plans for this fine Friday afternoon?”, you ask Sunoo as you both start packing your bags, ready to head home. “I planned on spending the night on the couch, watch one of the dramas you recommended to me earlier and enjoy a nice bowl of mint chocolate ice cream. And I thought that maybe you would like to join me?” Your heart is racing faster than a car on the highway, ringing loudly through your ears.
“That sounds like an amazing plan to spend the night.”, Sunoo says and for a moment you think he will take up on your offer, but when you see the sad smile on his face, you brace yourself for rejection. “I would love nothing more than to join you tonight, but I promised Jake I would hang out with him tonight. Him and his girlfriend broke up recently and he really needs some distraction.”
“Oh.”, you say, nodding your head at him. “Yeah, no, I totally understand that. I hope Jake feels better soon. You are a great friend for being there for him in such a time.”
Sunoo sighs at your words, ruffling his hair softly. “How about we do that next weekend? I am free then.”
“Next weekend? Yeah, of course. We can do that.” Hope fills your veins again, spreading through your whole body. And you forget the disappointment that lingered inside you just a moment ago.
“Great. Then that’s a date.”
-
Sitting beside Sunoo on your couch, in your apartment, in front of your tv, is definitely something that will take you a while to get used to. It’s so foreign seeing him in sweatpants, his hair falling softly onto his forehead and his face rid of any makeup. You swallow the lump in your throat and force your gaze away from him and back to the drama on the tv.
“God, they are so cute.”, Sunoo says after a while, watching the couple in the drama hold hands for the first time, shy and flustered. “This is the kind of love I want; you know? It’s so sweet and innocent. It’s so pure.”
You smile at his words, nodding your head softly, agreeing with his statement. “Yeah, me too. I love how soft dramas portray love. It’s so different from American dramas.”
“Yeah, I agree.” Sunoos’ eyes are trained to the tv, immersed into every single detail, not wanting to miss even a second. “This is the kind of love I want to give as well. I know I’m capable of this, but I just have to find the right person.”
“I think you would be an amazing boyfriend.”, you tell him, honestly. “The person who will call you their boyfriend in the future will be the luckiest person on this planet to have scored someone so kind and compassionate as you. Everyone deserves a Sunoo in their lives.” This is probably the boldest thing you said to him. And you are not sure where it came from, how you got the confidence to say what you said. But Sunoo seems to appreciate your words, showing you the softest, sweetest, smile he has ever given you. And you swear, you even see a faint hint of blush on his cheeks.
5. Be yourself
Be yourself.
Be yourself.
Be yourself.
You keep on repeating to yourself. This has to be the hardest step yet. You don’t know how to be yourself. You don’t even know how you are if you are being honest with yourself.
You don’t know how you want to live, how to find your flaws and your strengths, how to build up a security in yourself. How can you be yourself when you don’t even know yourself? Does Sunoo know who you are? You have been getting closer, opened up to each other, shared secrets in the whisper of the night, wishes as the gloomy sun filled up the sky with its light. But does he know you? Does he know what you are, who you are, where you are?
How can he know it when you don’t?
It’s been bothering you, day and night, robbing you from your sleep and stealing your appetite. You can’t stop thinking, obsessing. But no matter how much time you invest into thinking, you never seem to be getting an answer.
But spending so much time thinking also meant you started distancing yourself. Especially from Sunoo. You don’t know how you can engage in the last step, to ask him out, if you don’t know the simple answer to who you are. You think that Sunoo deserves a securer version of you, the person who knows what she wants, knows where her strengths lie. He doesn’t deserve the insecure, overthinking version of yourself that you are right now. So, you thought it would be for the best if you just distanced yourself from him, at least until you figured everything out.
But Sunoo doesn’t like that at all. He started worrying about you, but every time he tried asking you, you dodged him. And while he wants to give you your space, he can’t stop himself from worrying even more. Has he done something wrong? Did he say anything, do anything, that hurt you, that made you distance yourself from him?
He can’t take it anymore. He can’t keep watching you from a distance, hoping you would just tell him what’s wrong. He needs answers, and he needs them now. So, when the last parent leaves, Sunoo grabs your arm and pulls you into the break room.
“I know you probably need your space right now and the last thing you want is to talk to me, but I can’t take this anymore. Can you please just tell me what I did wrong for you to completely pull away from me? Did I hurt you?”
“Oh, God, Sunoo. No, you didn’t.” You shake your head hastily. When you started taking some space from Sunoo, all you thought about was getting a clear mind space first, getting answers before confessing to him. But you never thought of how Sunoo might feel. It didn’t cross your mind once that he could think it is his fault, that he would care so much. “Please don’t worry. This has nothing to do with you. I’m just not in the right mind, and I have a lot to think about.”
“Well, but it feels like it has to do with me, because you are normal with everyone else. You talk to all the colleagues the way you normally do, but it is me that you act different with.” You sigh as you hear his words, not ready for this conversation. This is the last thing you wanted to do today, not prepared for what is about to come. You didn’t think of the right words, the heartfelt message, the longing feelings.
“I can’t talk about this right now, Sunoo. If you just give me a bit more time, a few more days, then we can talk about all this.” But Sunoo isn’t listening to you, he just shakes his head, a long sigh slipping past the boy’s lips.
“But I can’t wait a few more days, Y/n. It’s already been days. I want to know now. It’s keeping me up at night, it’s driving me crazy. It hurts my heart just thinking about the possibility that I might have hurt you, drove you away. Please, just tell me. Whatever it is, I swear we can fix this. You have become such an important person in my life, I don’t want to lose you. I can’t lose you, Y/n.”
“I like you.” The words tumble out of your mouth before you can stop them. “I like you, Sunoo. I have for a while now. And I was trying to think of a way to confess to you, a way to find myself, to give you the best version of myself.”
“That’s it?”, Sunoo chuckles, shoulders lifting, and face overcome with amusement. “That’s why you have been avoiding me?” You nod your head carefully, scared of his next words. “I knew, Y/n. I’ve known it for a while now.”
“You knew?”, you ask him, eyes bulging out of your head.
“Yeah, I mean you haven’t been subtle about it. Especially lately. Don’t think I didn’t notice you picking up my interests, talking more to me and flirting with me.” You look to the floor, embarrassment evident on your face. This is it, your end, your misery. This is the part where you will get the rejection of your life. This is the part where you have to quit your job, because you will never be able to face Sunoo ever again in your life. You wait for it. You wait for the bomb to drop on you, to rip open your heart, to put a knife in it and twist it until it bleeds out. But it never comes. The bomb never explodes, and the knife never enters your heart. “I mean why else do you think I have been flirting back, engaging in all your little tries?”
“What?” Is all that leaves your mouth.
“Yeah, I like you back, Y/n. I have for the longest time. And I was so happy when you showed interest in me. I was always too shy to make a move on you, scared you would reject me. But when you started staring at me more, and when I noticed how you completely changed how you approach me, I knew that you like me back. That’s why I have been so bold as well. I thought that if I touch you more, or invite you to more hangouts, you will get the hints, but apparently that didn’t work out as planned.”
“You like me back?”
Sunoo laughs at your words, nodding his head and gently taking one of your hands in his, giving it a soft squeeze. “Yes, I like you back.” You just stare at him, not believing the words leaving his mouth. You followed this whole plan, for weeks, just to find out that Sunoo liked you all along. It’s almost funny, and you almost laugh at how absurd this all his. But you don’t because you remember that you still haven’t really said anything to him. “Aren’t you going to ask me out?”
“Yes, sorry, yes. I’m sorry, I’m still processing your words.” Taking a few breaths, you can’t fight the smile on your lips as you look at your intertwined hands. “Sunoo, would you like to go on an official date with me?”
“It would be my pleasure.”
Bonus
“I still can’t believe the two of you actually ended up with each other. I still remember Sunoo going on and on about his crush on Y/n.”, Jake says, making you all laugh softly at his words.
“I always knew.”, Jungwon turns in, making you look at him with confusion in your eyes. “I saw the way they looked at each other when the other one wasn’t watching, and I just knew they liked each other. And I overheard Sunoo talking to Jake about his crush on Y/n.”
“Wait, what?”, you exclaim, voice raising in more confusion. “You knew this the whole time? You knew Sunoo liked me and you didn’t tell me? You knew he liked me, and you still let me follow that stupid five step plan that YOU made for me?”
“Yep.”, Jungwon proudly says, showing you one of his wide grins.
“But why?”
“Wouldn’t it have been too easy if I just told you? I wanted to see you try, see you get out of your comfort zone. And I also wanted to have my own fun and believe me when I say I thoroughly enjoyed watching you get frustrated over every single little thing you said to Sunoo.” You gape at your friend, not believing the absurdity of this situation. But before you can complain to him, voice your anger at your friend’s disappointment in your suffering, he speaks up again. “But it worked, didn’t it? It took you longer, but it still worked out in the end.”
And you can’t disagree with him. Because it did work out. And you know it every single time you look at the boy who’s holding you in his arms. You know it from one single look that it worked out, that it was meant to be. And he knows it too, feels to, sees it every day.
It’s the kind of love he always wanted, the kind of love he dreamt of having, the kind of love he sees in all the dramas he watches. And now he has it. Now he has finally found his one person, the one person he always talked about.
He has found his soulmate, his love, his forever. Just like in the dramas. Only that it is so much better.

enhypen when you wear their clothes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
heeseung
it happens when you ask him if you could wear his clothes just because you want to
he’s so chill about it when he sees you in them for the first time
but inside he’s internally screaming
doesn’t show it and acts all smug about it tho
cracks a few jokes that his clothes must be more comfortable than yours now that you constantly began to wear them
jay
started to get suspicious when he noticed his favorite shirts and hoodies missing in his closet
only realized you’re the culprit when you pull up to his house, wearing his shirt
for some reason he feels extremely happy
you!! wearing his shirt!! happy dance
hugs you and doesn’t want to let go
sends a picture of you to the group chat and everyone makes fun of him for being sappy
jake
when you emerge from the bathroom wearing his shirt, his jaw drops to the floor
thinks you look absolutely stunning
also feels this emerging sense of pride
you’re his and you’re wearing his clothes
starts encouraging you to start wearing his clothes in public
you retort that no one would be able to tell but if jake can, that’s enough for him
sunghoon
you’d steal his clothes right in front of his eyes and sunghoon being sunghoon, didn’t complain
starts buying two sets of everything so you could wear it too, and then also match with him
soon you both end up wearing couple outfits only because sunghoon refuses to see you wearing anything else that’s not his
okayy he’s not that demanding… yet
but he might as well be because he keeps falling in love with you everyday
sunoo
what’s a sleepover if you forgot to take your pajamas with you?
nevermind, here comes your boyfriend with a wide variety of sleeping clothes
can’t stop awing when he sees you with his matching set of fox pajamas on
later on, gives his clothes to you (for free) just because he wants to see you wear them
he can’t get enough of how cute you look
jungwon
as the owner of many oversized clothes, he’s not even surprised to find you wearing one of his hoodies
he already kinda had a gist you’d steal his hoodie and adopt it to yourself
you say it smells like him and it comforts you, so there’s nothing he can do
jungwon doesn’t mind it at all
he actually thinks you look very cute drowning in his clothes
takes a bazillion pictures to save them in his phone for when he misses you
niki
acts like he doesn’t care but inside he’s actually dying
thinks you look very small in his clothes and wants to put you in his pocket
whines every time you go shopping because why would you need to buy shirts and hoodies when you can just have his instead?
snaps a picture when you’re not looking so he can squeal about it later when he’s alone

↺ did you know...?
pairing: kim sunoo x fem!reader
synopsis: sunoo misses you and can't stop bringing you up in any and every conversation.
genre: fluff

the members were seated comfortably in the car, chatting after a long day of work.
jay sighed blissfully and snuggled further back into his seat.
“i love that belift gave us the opportunity to just work out for an entire en-o‘clock episode.“
“my thighs are burning,“ whined jake. “too many squats.“
“beauty is pain,“ said sunghoon. “eh, heeseung? not dying anymore?“ he nudged the elder boy playfully, who turned as red as a tomato.
“shut up.“
a proud grin spread on riki‘s face. “i totally nailed the squats. steady is better than fast.“
“and then there‘s sunoo who was neither steady nor fast.“
“hey,“ protested the said boy and crossed his arms in front of his chest, “the thing was wobbling way too much. if y/n had been there we could‘ve suffered together.“ he pouted.
jay flexed his biceps and looked at it proudly. “sadly, there weren‘t many opportunities to train my arms. i might just head straight to the gym when we‘re back.“
“did you know,“ started sunoo, “that the word ‘muscle‘ comes from the latin term musculus, meaning ‘little mouse‘? that‘s what they saw when looking at a flexed arm.“
“how would we know that?“ said jungwon. “and how do you know that? did you double check your sources?“
“y/n told me all about it. she‘s so knowledgeable.“ he started smiling fondly.
a chorus of ‘of course‘ echoed through the car. y/n again. the car turned silent, the music on the radio and the soft breathing of the boys the only thing you could hear. the members were all very well aware that once the y/n talk started it was impossible to make it stop.
bts‘s dynamite started playing.
“talking about fun facts,“ sunghoon and jake exchanged glances, “the last time y/n and I heard dynamite on the radio she remembered this: peanuts can be used to make dynamite. isn‘t that incredible?“ he exclaimed full of wonder. “i don‘t remember the exact process but something turns into something which then can be used in dynamite.“
“aha,“ said jungwon. “the beauty of mother nature.“
“very true,“ agreed sunoo passionately.
he rested his head on his hand and looked out the window.
“just like this sunset,“ he went on. “how beautiful it is with all its pinks and oranges. but did you know that sunsets on mars are actually blue? but i think the ones on earth are so much cooler. i miss watching sunsets with y/n, i‘ve been so busy lately. it‘s been too long since i last saw her.“
“why don‘t you write her a love letter if you miss her so much“ it was a sarcastic remark made by riki but sunoo nodded passionately.
“she might like that. i should sent her an e-mail.“
many eyebrows were raised.
“do i even want to know?“ asked jake.
“hyung, you might actually know this but in australia there are people who write love letters to trees. the system was originally set up so people could report if there was anything wrong with the trees but they started addressing love letters to them instead.“
“y/n is a tree. got it,“ teased jay.
sunoo sent a sour look his way. but before he could retort, a loud grumble interrupted the tension. heeseung clutched his stomach.
“god, i’m hungry. we should order something to eat.“
“ooh, I want pizza,“ exclaimed riki.
jay pulled out his phone. “i‘ll order. is domino‘s okay?“
everyone nodded. pizza was always good.
“i‘ll have the korean sweet potato one,“ said sunoo. “y/n likes that one best.“
“on the topic of y/n,“ he began yet again but was quickly interrupted by sunghoon who was rolling his eyes.
“what fascinating other trivia did she tell you?“
“japan‘s domino's used to have a reindeer training program to deliver the food during christmas a few years back but they had to stop because the reindeers were too hard to train. cool concept though.“
after registering the looks of his members, he puffed out his cheeks. “fine. i‘ll be quiet.“
no one protested. jay ordered the pizza and they all spent the rest of the ride on their phones.
sunoo decided to text the love of his life.
sunoo: my love, how are youuuuuu? <3
y/n: i‘m good but i miss you :((((
y/n: how are you doing? ^-^
sunoo: we filmed another en-o‘clock episode! we went to the gym this time
sunoo: i swear I almost died
sunoo: i need to tell you all about it!! it was SO funny
sunoo: do you have time to call in about ten minutes?
y/n: why don‘t we talk now? :)
they were pulling up to their apartment complex now.
sunoo: gimme a couple of minutes to go inside and then i‘ll call you
y/n: you could do that but that would be quite inconvenient if we‘re already talking in person
sunoo: huh?
sunoo: wdym??
sunoo: love??
y/n: look out of the window ;)
sunoo almost dropped the phone when he spotted his dear girlfriend waiting in front of the main entrance. luckily, the car was already standing still because sunoo would‘ve jumped out regardless to greet y/n by spinning her around.
he gave her a quick peck, grinning from ear to ear. her expression mirrored his.
“but how?“ he wondered.
she nodded towards the members who were just now exiting the car. jay held up his phone.
“you were being so incredibly pathetic that I decided to put you out of your misery. i ordered one more pizza too, so enjoy.“
sunoo wiped an imagined tear from his eye. “thank you, hyung.“
jay rolled his eyes but still smiled.
y/n grabbed sunoo‘s hand and they walked inside, swinging their arms. they took off their shoes and left them by the entrance.
“how long until the pizza arrives?“ asked jungwon.
“around ten minutes,“ replied jay.
“perfect. just enough time to prepare my overnight oats.“
“did you know that the first breakfast cereal had to be soaked overnight before it could be eaten?“ y/n asked sunoo while walking towards the couch. “they baked graham flour into brittle cakes, crumbled it up and then baked it all again. it wasn‘t edible at all if it wasn‘t soaked overnight.“
“i didn‘t know,“ smiled sunoo, “but now i do.“
he pressed a light kiss on her nose, then pulled her into a tight embrace.
“i learn so much when i‘m with you.“

#240117 : SUNOO의 💭 COLLAGE
collage ⋅ 1OO
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SUNOO's first photos on his camera had been you, but not your face.
you were captured in the essence of how your love flows in earth. in the grasses, in a cat that had walked up to him, and in the skies. in the calls of seagulls, your voice had been there.
in all love, he found his way back to you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
YOUR first joke upon meeting had been about your contrast in personalities.
with you and sunoo having both times of the sun and moon rising, you found one particularly leaning into your projection to others- hence the formation of the kuromi and my melody duo.
in shows, doodles, and papers, he had always found his way onto you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BOTH of you have a love for soft materials.
like your hearts, they are fragile and easy to nurture. and just like one has to the other, you plant the material in your hand in care for it.
the seed growing in your heart under the name of sunoo is watered with gifts and kisses, but silence too.
you love sunoo in flowers and photos.

Your boyfriend was sick, and your boss was giving you overtime for the 4th time this week. It was completely unfair and you wanted to punch someone in the face for your luck. But that would be a bit uncalled for, and you were sure Sunoo would laugh at it.
After a little persuading (arguing) with your boss, he let you have the weekend on account of a “sick relative.” Sure, you didn’t specify how sick your “relative” was, or the fact that he was actually your boyfriend, but your boss didn’t need to know.
Once 5 o’clock rolled around, you rushed back to your apartment. You picked up some painkillers and other medication from the drug store, as well as some mint chocolate ice cream before you walked through the door.
Apparently, you weren’t as quiet as you thought, because when you finally opened the bedroom door, Sunoo was already sitting up groggily. It was very clear that he had just woken up from his adorably messed up hair, disrupted sheets, and a Sunoo head-shaped dent in the pillow.
“Oh no- Did I wake you up?!” You asked quickly, and he just giggled and nodded, suppressing a cough that tried to surface. “I’m sorry.” You murmured.
“It’s okay.” He yawned, “Can you give me a hug? I haven’t seen you all day, and I missed you.” He pouted, giving you puppy-dog eyes as if he needed that to convince you. You would give him a hug regardless.
“Hold on- I have to navigate through the ocean of tissues before I can hug you.” You said, grabbing the trash can and throwing the tissues in their proper place as you made your way to Sunoo.
“Sorry about that- I wasn’t really thinking about where I was throwing them.” He explained and you laughed.
“You don’t have to apologise for anything, baby. As long as you work on getting better, that’s all that matters.” You said gently, finally reaching him and wrapping your arms around him. He sniffed, hugging you as tightly as possible.
“Do you still have a headache?” You asked, referencing the text he had sent with updates on his condition.
He shook his head, “Sleeping made it go away. I’m just a bit sniffly still… As you could probably tell from the tissues.” He laughed, and you were glad he was still keeping his spirit up despite falling sick two days ago.
“Tired?” You asked.
“Yeah… You kinda just barged in here.”
You cringed, “Sorry for waking you, baby. Go back to sleep.”
“Can you stay with me? I really missed you.” He asked hesitantly, clinging onto the sleeve of your shirt as if you would leave and then he’d never be able to get you back.
“Of course, anything you want.” You let him pull you down next to him on the bed, his arms wrapping around your waist as he snuggled closer and got comfy. You smiled, pressing soft kisses all around his face to make up for the fact that he wouldn’t let you kiss his lips.
“Do you have work tomorrow?” He whispered, already half-asleep.
“Nope… I’m all yours for the weekend.” You said satisfactorily, happy that you were able to spend time with him uninterrupted for two more days.
“Really?” His voice was quiet as he fought to stay awake. You hummed, stroking his hair and making the battle against sleep all the harder for him. He eventually lost and you heard his breathing soften and his body relax as he drifted off to his dreamland.
You kissed his cheek, whispering a, “Get better soon, baby…” You fell asleep yourself, your arms still wrapped safely around him.

cookie | kim sunoo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: sunoo x gender neutral! reader

Tumblr media
“Come to think of it, Sun,” why are we even fighting in the first place?”
You sat side-by-side with your boyfriend, Sunoo, who's breathlessly panting from his P.E. class. Not bothering to look at him, you curl up in a guilty ball as the events from earlier resurface from your memories. He, on the other hand, doesn't say a word immediately; he just looks somewhere at a distance, just averting your gaze and waiting for the words he wanted to hear from you—“I'm sorry.”
Heck. Sitting under the tree with him was supposed to be a great time but not right now. You could clearly remember you having a pretty unpleasant parting with him before your classes started, with you lashing out at him and him running off before you could even apologize.
"Nope," he spat out, breaths slowing as he avoids your gaze and fixes it somewhere far away. "You should know that by now."
You grumbled. "Ugh, come on! Is this how we're supposed to fix this?"
He mindlessly kicked away a stone. "You tell me."
This new attitude Sunoo showed you was completely out of the ordinary. Though his sulking was totally understandable, how he could utter words with such a tone was so beyond you. The Kim Sunoo that sat beside you was different—he wasn't gonna have any bullshit.
You didn't know what to say next, being cornered by his statement. I'm sorry? I shouldn't have shouted at you? It was childish of me? You felt like whatever you say among these would either make or break the situation, so you sit and think again despite knowing it would make Sunoo look like an idiot waiting for an answer from you.
"Y/N." Sunoo called out as calmly as possible, trying his best not to whine out of impatience.
"Fine!" you blurted out with eyes shut, scared to see whatever expression is all over your boyfriend's face. It wasn't going to help with your already agitated self. "I just wanted some of your cookies, okay?"
A moment of silence follows as the sound of swooshing leaves make up for the white noise. One, two, three seconds pass and your urge to be eaten up by the ground gradually rose. There was no point in explaining yourself further, because judging the lack of reaction from Sunoo, whatever you say next would be futile.
Just then, peals of laughter rung in your ears along with sounds of clapping and feet hitting the ground. In disbelief, you lifted your head up and turned to him. He was definitely enjoying this. Was your boyfriend seriously laughing at you in this situation?
"Hey, Kim Sunoo!" you hissed, finally mustering up the courage to give your boyfriend a sour look.
Him laughing will always be therapeutic to you in a sense, but in this state? It was hell on earth. Cheeks warm from embarrassment and subtle anger, you stared as he falls to the floor, clapping like a madman as his laughs fail to cease. Unbelievable.
"Ah, Y/N… I should've known!" he says between giggles, even unintentionally hitting your shoulder. "You still owe me an apology for shouting, by the way."
"Damn it." you roll your eyes, cursing under your breath.
"What was that, my love?" Sunoo teasingly extends a hand in front of your mouth as if pointing a mic at you. The amusement was clear as day in his face and you were hopeless.
"I'm sorry for shouting at you, Kim." you conceded, searching for any trace of anger on his face. You wouldn't want to mess this up, wouldn't you?
Sunoo, still amused, softly pats your heavy shoulder, smile fading as you avoid his gaze again. I must've been too hard on them myself.
He clearly remembers turning his back on you as the bell rings for the next class. Surely he would've given you enough time to apologize if it weren't for that matter, but he figured you would've taken it the wrong way—that he would ignore you that easily.
"You know I love cookies the most in the world, bubs," you continue, looking up at him with tired eyes. "and the fact that wouldn't share them upsets me."
Shit. You did take it the wrong way. He was supposed to keep the box of your favorite cookies hidden until the end of the last period, but alas, you have spotted him chucking it in his backpack.
"Baby—"
You nodded vigorously. "Petty, I know."
"These were for you, silly."
He places a slightly damaged box of cookies on your lap. Wrapped daintily in fancy paper and ribbons, you could see sugar cookies peeking out of the box's small orifice. Tears welled up your eyes, realizing how dumb you were for not realizing what date it was today. How could I forget? Your chest dropped at the thought of him sad for the rest of his classes.
"Happy anniversary, L/N."
"Oh, come on!" you squeaked, snatching a cookie from the box and popping it into your mouth. "How am I ever gonna stand to be away from you at this point?"
"Then don't." he replied, lifting your face up with a finger and blowing cookie crumbs off of your lips. He eventually pecks them with lips dangerously close to your face. "Stay close for as long as you wish."

[11:20 p.m] — kim sunoo
Tumblr media
“you’re kidding!” “i’m telling you sunoo, she straight up threw the water in his face in front of all the customers.” you were currently on the phone, sprawled off on your bed while telling sunoo everything about what happened during your shift at the café. “that’s crazy, i really wish i could’ve seen that.” you could hear the pout in his voice, the image of him sulking immediately coming to mind. “you should’ve, it was hilarious.” the line went silent before you let out a prolonged sigh, “you know, i miss you a lot, right? it’s so boring without you.” you rolled onto your back and stared at the ceiling, your eyelids suddenly feeling heavy. the boy reciprocated your sadness, whispering a soft ‘me too’ into the phone. there was another deafening silence. “hello? y/n, are you there?” sunoo pulled the phone back and gave it a questioning look before returning it to his ear. “hellooo?” there was a soft snoring on the other side of the line causing the boy let out a soft chuckle, “sweet dreams y/n.”

The radio blasted music. The wind was blowing past you from the open windows. Everything was calm. As it should be at this time of night. At this peaceful, calm, and secluded time of night. Where nothing could possibly upset you or the mood that you were in.
Even when you thought back to the tough day, you've had at work. Rude and disrespectful customers, having to rush making food, picking up the trash left by the rude and disrespectful customers. You hated your job and it would always stress you out just thinking about you having to go back to that same place tomorrow.
But right now it was your time to sit back and enjoy this calm ride. No one else but you and your boyfriend of a year. Kim Seon Woo, your charming and sassy, boyfriend, who at the end of the day worried more about you than himself. That just was the kind of person he was.
Always making sure you were taking care of yourself and doing things you weren't supposed to. He was just always so caring. Like how he was ordering both of you food because he knew you hadn't eaten all day. Like how he held your hand, while his other rested on the steering wheel.
Like how he cracked jokes every now and then to hear you laugh and see you smile. He just knew what to do to make you happy which he liked seeing. He smiled at the little dance you were doing as you ate your food. Content with filling your stomach with delicious food.
Your hand still tucked into his as you did. The night sky glowing bright as it illuminated the soft brown beauty called your skin. The wind blew past your hair in the wind. Everything about this night was perfect to the both of you.
From your favorite song playing on the radio, the soft smell of lavender and vanilla in the air, your locked hands, the love you have for each other. Was perfect. Because it was just you guys. Yours and nobody else's late night drives. Was perfect.
Just you and him and the open road. Nothing was more precious and perfect then this moment right now. Your late night drives.

[ 👤 ] SIDE A ; BOY 2 ㅡ KIM SUNOO
°❝ loving you's just getting harder and harder to do
cause my head says no but my phone keeps calling you
and you never pick up unless you've got nothing to do
but you say that you want me much as i want you ❞°
[ 🎧 ] SIDE B ; TRACK 2 ㅡ pacman by eaj
Tumblr media
“I love you, Y/n. I really do. I hope we can at least try to work things out.” I say while tucking some loose strands behind her ear to help her get it out of her face. A tiny hope sparks within me, thinking the impossible, even when I know deep down that it’ll never happen.
My eyes lock with hers, searching for the answers that I don’t want to hear, but I know that I need. She gives me that charming smile, but I’m not quite sure if it’s even genuine.
Her flimsy arms hug my waist even tighter as she plants a quick kiss on my chin. Looking up at me, she whispers the improbable, “I love you too.”
Imagine the big, bright smile on my face when she finally said those words for the first time. But my breath hitches, ‘cause I know she doesn't.
Tumblr media
I met her at their university’s library. She always sat at this particular table with her bookish friends even though the bell rang at lunchtime. She would just stay there, and sometimes I would wonder if this girl ever has a stomach, or does she even know hunger at all.
I would approach her daily, reminding her it’s either time for lunch or for the library to close. She came to know me as days went by since I was working there as a full-time librarian, and she always, always borrowed books.
But it was just a first-name basis then, and a brief exchange about the books she borrows.
I found her really intriguing, and I can’t help but wonder if she even has a life besides books and studying. So I befriended her, simply because I wanted to know her better, and I know she’s pretty something behind those classic books and round glasses.
I would always try asking her out to see a movie or just a casual stroll around the town’s park. It wasn’t easy at first, she would give excuses every single time until her friend nudged her, suggesting she should try to have some fun at the very least, and she obliged.
I know she only came with me that day because she doesn’t want to lose to her friends who think she isn’t capable of having fun. But she was a pro.
Despite her cold aura most of the time, she made me feel appreciated that day. She didn’t act like she was forced to be with me just to prove herself to her friends, instead, she let herself go and genuinely made the most of her time.
Catching feelings for her wasn’t unlikely to happen. After two months of hanging out together, who wouldn’t see such beauty within her? She’s down-to-earth, a great listener, prudent, and kind. And with or without her glasses on, she was still amazing.
“I wish I knew what other people really thought of me, don’t you?” she asked me over dinner one time.
“I guess so.” I smiled while munching on a meatball.
I love you, I love you, I’m in love with you so much it’s killing me. That was what I wanted to say, but I kept my mouth shut. “Has no one ever asked you out, yet? Romantically, I mean.”
“Nope.”
“Not even in your school?”
She snorted. “Trust me. I don’t attract guys; I scare them off.” She replied, and I only gave her a confused look. “Debates? I’m usually strict and opinionated in class. And believe me, if anyone even dares to ask me out, I’d turn them down right away.”
“Why is that?” I gradually dropped the spoon that was resting on my lips.
“Come on, Sunoo. You know I don’t have time for such things. And besides, what good will it do me? Better to waste my time on books than on boys.”
“You talk like some guy in your past gave you misery in the name of love. But yeah, I guess you’re right.” ㅡwas the only response I could say to her.
I walked her to her place, and she hugged me as soon as we got there. “You’re a good guy, Sunoo. Thank you for being around.” I let out a chuckle as I gently rubbed her head that was resting on my chest. “Goodnight, Y/n. See you at the library tomorrow.”
She went to school earlier the next day just to leave a pack of croissants on my table with a little note attached to it.
" I don’t have classes this afternoon. Our long tests were moved next week so… I was hoping if I could use my happy pill later? See you! "
I was planning to confess my feelings to her that afternoon even though I’m fully aware of the rejection I’ll get. I just want to put it out there ‘cause it kills me if I keep it in any longer.
We met outside the school. She wanted to stroll around the sidewalk until we got to her favorite bookshop, so she held my arm and swung it to and fro as we walked on the slightly wet concrete. It rained a bit quite a while ago so the road still exuded that fresh smell of the rain on a hot day.
“Hey, Y/n?” she stopped in her tracks and turned to me immediately. “I’ve been meaning to tell you something.”
“Can’t it wait later ‘til we get there?”
“No… I mean… there’s not many people out here and I think it’s better if I just say it… out here.” She pouted a little and started walking towards me. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m totally fine.” She suddenly wrapped her arms around me while rubbing my back.
“You seem so tense. I’ll hug you while you say what you wanted to tell me so you’ll stay calm.”
I nodded in affirmation and let out a deep exhale.
“I love you, Y/n. I really do, more than a friend. I hope we can at least try to work things out.” I said to her while tucking her hair behind her ear to help her get it out of her face. A tiny hope sparked within me thinking the impossible when I know deep down, it’ll never happen. My eyes stared at hers in search of answers I don’t want to hear, but I know it’s what I need.
She gave me that charming smile, but I wasn’t quite sure if it was even genuine. Her flimsy arms hugged my waist even tighter as she planted a quick kiss on my chin. She looked up at me, and whispered the improbable, “I love you, too.”
Imagine the big, bright smile on my face when she finally said those words for the first time. But my breath hitched, because I suddenly remembered and because I know that she doesn’t.
I made her dinner that night.
She insisted on trying my own version of ravioli. It wasn’t much but my mother loved cooking, and she would let me experiment with my own recipe sometimes.
We ate at my terrace where I set a table with a romantic vibe to impress her, and it was worth it ‘cause she was sincerely impressed by my effort. I promised to take things slow since it’s her first time being in a relationship. At least that’s what she told me.
The doubt within me was still there though. But I thought if I give us a chance, things might change for real, and that she would actually love me the way I love her.
Weeks passed and things were still the same. Maybe progressing a little bit, but the same, nonetheless. Since that day on my terrace, she’d been everything lively and hyperactive.
Y/n started opening up to me more, and I felt nothing but pure glee. After all, we’re beginning to date, and knowing that we’re on the stage of getting comfortable with each other gave me so much excitement.
However, there’s this tinge of disappointment inside of me that I cannot hide no matter how hard I try.
I kept on asking myself if it’s going to be this way forever; if it’s going to remain lighthearted and fun, almost as if we’re only best friends on the go. She always opts to spend more time in the library, studying and shoving her nose onto thick pages of books and thesis papers.
I constantly tried my best to be patient, reminding myself that I fell for her because of her dedication to her studies. This library is her home, our home. This very place is the reason for the existence of our relationship. Her studiousness is something that I admire most, but nowadays, it makes me feel a little bit neglected.
I’m not the clingy and whiny type. I never am. And it isn’t because I fear the image of my masculinity will lose its might. Honestly, fuck that. The reason why I don’t cling to Y/n so much is because I think about her, her, her. About what would make her comfortable and uncomfortable, about what to give and not to give, about what to do and not do.
I’ve always taken things slowly as promised. But why does it seem like I’m the only one who wants this thing to move?
The next day was just supposed to be another day for the two of us. Uni, little café escapades, long walks, library dates… but my feet stopped walking on their own accord when Y/n’s sentence repeatedly rang inside my head during the walk home.
“Everything is temporary; this was merely one of those things.” She looked up at me while shaking her hands as if telling me that I know what she meant.
“What do you mean?”
“Duh, the... you walking me home, me coming over to your home for movie marathons and cuddles, you telling me you love me, me playing along.”
“Playing along? This was never a joke to me, Y/n.” I stopped in my tracks and looked at her from behind before she turned to look at me.
“I know.”
“Then why would you say that?”
See, the thing about the eyes is that they never lie.
Even if you’re the densest and insensitive person in the world, you’ll always notice the truest form of emotion in somebody’s eyes. And if there’s one thing that I know about Y/n, it’s that her eyes always speak what her mouth cannot say.
It was the very moment when I realized something that I should have a long time ago.
That all along, I was hopelessly wanting for something that she didn’t even want in the first place.
“I fell for you so bad, so hard, in the most genuine way and, god, does it hurt that you can’t see it.” I bit the inside of my cheek, keeping myself from breaking down in front of her.
“You keep saying that we’re friends but you look at me for a moment too long for that to be true. Tell me, Y/n,” My eyes searched for hers, even the slightest hint of regret from her words would do me good right now, but there was none. In the midst of brief silence, I stifled a sob.
“Tell me that you love me the same way I love you. I think I’m ridiculously in love with you and I don’t know what to do. Tell me, is it only me who feels this way?”
“Sunoo… I’m sorry, I…”
“You really didn’t care, not even a little bit?”
“I did. I just… I just don’t love you enough.”
“Just go, Y/n.” I turned my back to her and started walking away ‘til she grabbed my wrist, making me turn back.
“We can be friends, can’t we?” Those eyes; what are you doing, Y/n? “You don’t have to pretend that you care when you already have one foot out the door.”
“You need to find happiness without me, Sunoo. You can find someone better than me.”
“Don’t wish me the best, Y/n. You were my best everything.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Is that really all that you could say? Maybe you just don’t know what you’re saying-” I forced out a chuckle when all I really want to do right now is scream and bawl my eyes out.
“Sunoo.”
“-not aware of what you’re truly feeling and you’re just getting it mixed up because you’re not used to it? I mean, Y/n, there is a chance for us-”
“Sunoo! You never get what you want. Haven’t you learned that by now?” It was at that moment when I knew I couldn’t take it anymore, so I let myself go.
“I’m sorry, please don’t cry, I- I’m sorry. I really am.”
“I thought you were happy, I’m sorry, Y/n.”
“You were the best boyfriend to me, Sunoo. Trust me when I say that you are. But maybe… somebody else deserves it better than I do. Someone who will truly love you.”
Tumblr media
The next morning, I went to meet up with my friends whom I haven’t seen since I was dating Y/n. Daniel, the youngest among us, showed up from behind me and swung an arm around my shoulder.
“Woah, Sunoo. You look like you’ve been through hell and back.”
“I haven’t stopped crying since Thursday. It’s pathetic.”
Geonu, the other friend, looked up from his phone and muttered while pushing his glasses back up. “It’s Y/n, isn’t it?”
“Why does it hurt so much? Why do I feel like she’s broken my soul?”
“You’ve got it bad, bro. You know what, I suck at comforting but maybe I can just contact a chic for you.”
Sounds of laughter suddenly erupted from the corner, gradually getting louder as it gets closer to us. When we looked to see what it was, I bit my bottom lip, writhing in agitation.
Y/n and her friends walked past us and to my surprise, she smiled at me. Daniel quickly thwarted and pulled me out of the scene to redeem myself from the sudden anxiety.
Truth is, I don’t hate Y/n for what she did. I was just disappointed. Not entirely with her, but mostly with myself. I knew what I was getting myself into and despite being fully aware of it, I still pushed things thinking maybe it’d work. I presumed her feelings were genuine enough that I overlooked the half of it.
Maybe one day we’ll meet again when we’re different people. Maybe, just maybe, by then, she’ll love me, and we’ll be better for each other. I’ll just continue loving her from afar. Maybe I’ll move on soon when I’m ready, too. For now, I’ll try to tame and heal my broken heart.
After all, nothing is more painful than losing someone who was never even mine to begin with ㅡ

cuddling w/ enhypen
genre: fluff because my heart needs it :>
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
heeseung
late night cuddles !!
like when you’re about to go to sleep
hee loves falling asleep with you in his arms
compliments every little detail he notices because he has you so close and won’t stop till you’re either a blushing mess or you ask him to (but he does love seeing you get shy)
heeseung likes laying on the side and hugging you from behind, wrapping his arms around your frame and holding you close
it makes you feel very safe
jay
cuddles you literally anywhere and everywhere he’s got a chance to do so
plays with your hair and sometimes surprises you with a visit to the tickle town
doesn’t overdo it though, goes back to cuddling pretty fast
he also likes to hum to some songs he found out about recently and you always leave your cuddling sessions with a new song to add to your playlist
always updates you on his day and listens to what you have to say so it’s never gets too silent
jake
he gets SO happy when you come to him
opens up his arms widely with that pretty smile of his
very comfy to cuddle with (source: i just know it)
If you’re laying on a bed, he loves to lay his head on your chest and wrap his hands around your tummy and just listen to your heartbeat
he says it calms him down and honestly, how can you say no to that?
also kinda goofy. you’re always laughing at something he says and that makes you very comfortable around him
sunghoon
he’s very awkward at first and doesn’t know how to act around you, cue where does he… put his arm?? …his hands?? he’s so lost (p.s. you find him very cute)
once you do settle in, he’s still quite stiff
you kinda have to take initiative yourself so you get yourself comfortable and wait till he relaxes
if you’re watching a movie, sunghoon forgets he’s cuddling with you and relaxes faster lol
once he throws all of his worries out the window, he absolutely loves having you this close to him !!
also he plays with your fingers and it happens so naturally that he doesn’t even realize
sunoo
cuddles incoming along horror movies or dramas he wants to watch with you !!
which is more like both of you screaming and hiding under the blanket (this fits both the horror movies and the dramas lol)
but then you always squeeze sunoo in a tight hug and feel safe and secured
sunoo likes to entangle your legs with his for no reason at all
to be honest he just wants to be as close to you as he can and that kinda helps
most of the times you both stay in the same position for a long period of time, so when you pull apart you have to stretch to the point you hear your bones popping
jungwon
your cuddles are very comfy especially when jungwon always wears those oversized hoodies of his and you get to bury yourself in his chest
sometimes he indulges you in small conversations but most of the time, it’s silent
you don’t mind it because you can hear his breathing and his heartbeat and you’re content
sometimes he does like putting on some peaceful music from his phone just so he can vibe together with you
jungwon’s definition of cuddles translates to the time for him to rest and spend time with you so really all he does is just relax fully
niki
cuddles are most likely to happen when you or him are tired/exhausted
your favorite moment of the day is when niki comes into your room, falls on the bed and lays there like a sprawled starfish, urging you to come to him
you can tell when he’s in the mood for cuddles because he gets really affectionate
tends to snuggle into you and just bask in the warmness
he falls asleep first and you just stare at him like a creep, appreciating his beauty. then you also fall asleep and both of you wake up, limbs tangled together with each other
niki will definitely say he had the best sleep of his life because you were next to him

Mr. Kim
MASTERLIST
pairing: ceo!sunoo x secretary!reader genre: fluff, a little bit of angst word count: 1.1k
summary: y/n is working as a secretary for kim sunoo - CEO. sunoo is very strict, usually doesn't want a secretary to help, and has a very strict schedule employees have to go by. y/n get's fed up by it and decids to quit, sunoo doesn't want that.
warnings: maybe angst, rude!sunoo, strict!sunoo
shortenings: l/n > family name y/n > your name
"ms. l/n! i'm still waiting for my tea and you're five minutes late based of your schedule!" i heard mr. kim's voice ring through the mansion, all the way from his office down to the kitchen where i was, preparing his chamomile tea. the hot water was almost ready, but i knew i would be scolded very harshly by my boss - mr. kim - because i won't be on time with my schedule.
when i started working at the kim's mansion, for their son, who was a CEO – 23 years old and he was already one of the most famous CEOs in the whole world, everything because of family business –, i didn't expect to be tortured like this at work.
mr. kim's mother warned me though, that her son was a very strict, cold, and merciless being. he didn't want any maid or secretary because he believed he would do his work better alone. and every time he actually had a maid, a butler, or a secretary they would resign again after a few days. i even heard that the longest someone was able to work for him was around one week and a half, and i was determined to break that record and stay hired for longer than that.
i was woken up from her thoughts as the tea pot started whistling and steam began to escape under the lid. my hands quickly found their way to the pot to take it off the stove and put some into the teacup that was prepared with the tea bag already in it. some honey was on the small tray too, along with a silver spoon.
as soon as i filled the cup with water and put the pot onto the tray too, i made my way up to his office, slightly kicking against the door three times to knock and waiting for mr. kim to allow her to enter.
"come in." i heard the cold voice from behind the door.
my elbow pushed the door handle down and i entered, approaching the CEO's desk slowly and putting the tray down onto it. i put the cup and the pot with water down onto the table, putting a little cork palette under the tea pot to not make any marks on the expensive wooden office table.
"care to explain why you were so late, ms. l/n?" he questioned.
"i'm sorry, sir." i said as i bowed down in front of him.
"i was still out in the garden watering the plants as the schedule says, and i didn't realize it was already time for you afternoon tea, sir. i apologize again."
"well... , i'll let it slide this time, but the next time you aren't on time, your salary will be reduced by ten percent."
i widened my eyes in shock. ten percent was a lot, and i needed the money to be able to save up for the college i will be starting at next year.
"yes, sir. i'll be punctual next time; i'll make sure of that."
mr. kim nodded, the waved me off to go continue my other chores.
as i was preparing mr. kim's dinner, i took a glance at the clock hanging on the wall. when i realized there were five minutes left until mr. kim expected his dinner, i knew i had to hurry.
i quickly took a plate out and put it on the tray, stirring the pasta – flown here from Italy from a specific producer, because mr. kim didn't like anything else – in the pot faster, somehow having hope it would be finished sooner by doing this. i knew it was of no use to hurry now, because if i actually took out the pasta too early and made it on time, the sir would have something to say about it not being cooked enough.
and five minutes later, as expected, i heard mr. kim's voice.
"where is my dinner, ms. l/n?"
so i made my way into the dining room, stopping my steps in the doorframe as i saw what mr. kim was wearing.
he wasn't wearing his usual suit and tie, the formal attire that i was used to seeing him in his office with. he was wearing a loose shirt and some sweatpants.
"th-the dinner will be ready in a few minutes. the pasta hasn't finished cooking yet."
"didn't i tell you the next time you were late your salary would be cut by ten?"
and that's when my eyes began to tear up. i needed the money. urgently or i wouldn't have enough by the end of the year to pay my first year of college.
"ye-yes, mr. kim...", i whispered as my voice cracked.
i mentally cursed at myself for not talking louder and more stable instead of letting mr. kim know i was crying like this. in this exact moment, the timer in the kitchen went off, letting me know the pasta had finished cooking.
again i checked the clock, three minutes too late. why was he that strict? i didn't know. probably just to get me to resign earlier.
i made my way into the kitchen again, quickly wiping away my tears with my black apron and taking the pot with the pasta off the stove. i let out the water and then put the pasta on the plate and topped it off with some tomato sauce and cheese.
just then, i heard footsteps nearing the kitchen. when the person, probably mr. kim, entered, i could feel his burning gaze on my back.
"why are you crying, y/n?" he asked, his tone way softer than else.
i didn't answer.
"i asked you why you are crying." he said again, this time his voice was sterner again.
when i didn't reply again, he shouted.
"WHY ARE YOU CRYING?"
in a calm tone she responded: "three weeks and i think this is it. i can't keep working here if i don't get paid enough. and on top of that, i don't like being treated like an animal. yelled at with every opportunity you get, if i don't do something right i either am not allowed to eat or my salary will be cut short, the constant comments about how i should just quit. do you think i like that?"
He could hear my voice slowly cracking again and again, mr. kim's heart did the same, cracking over and over as i continued explaining why i hated being where i was. and my final words made him realize he fucked up big time.
"here's your god damn pasta.
I QUIT"
that's when he ran over to me, wrapping his arms around my frame and kissing my soft lips with force. i tried to push him away, but no success. he just hugged me tighter.
"i'm so sorry. i'm so sorry, love. i shouldn't have treated you this way. i love you so much i can't even explain. lord- i can't even explain how i fell for you, a miracle i tell you. i have never felt this way about anyone else in my life, so please don't leave me alone here again. i promise i will try to get better..."

Test Your Might !
Pairing: Sunoo x fem!reader [shao kahn player!Sunoo x Jade player!reader💀]
tags: gamer!sunoo, gamer!reader, fluff, first meetings, bullet point fic, mortal kombat players, two nerds in loveeee, bad attempts at flirting cuz i'm corny
Warnings: reader is a bit dumb when it comes to online safety but for the most part, none (let me know if i am perhaps missing something tho!)
A/N: i think it is extremely important to state that i have never played a single game of MK in my life💀💀💀. I just like reading/watching cutscene movies of the lore, gameplay, and characters. So if smth is wrong...thats why loool.
TL;DR OP is using this as a way to mix her two hyperfixiations into one thing
• you're a Jade main who, although is not considered a "professional gamer", can handle yourself pretty well in an online match
• after going thru several players and mopping the floor with them you match up with a Shao Kahn player
• username: "handsome_starr"
• "cheesy" you cant help but chuckle at the name and assume this to be a easy fight against someone who isn't above the age of 10
• as soon as the round starts you're immediately backed into a corner by a barrage of combo attacks from the other player
• suddenly straightening up in your seat your grip on the controller gets tighter as your health gets lower and lower with each brutal attack of the heavy weights hammer
• you finally got yourself grounded enough to land a few critical hits to him but it wasn't enough to save you. and before you know it, you hear those familiar words
• "finish her!"
• you feel your nose twitch in irritation as the player throws in a taunt at the end of the 1st round
• "How disappointing." Shao Kahn wags a finger in front of him as the 2nd round begins
• usually you would roll your eyes at the use of the taunt, but with this particular player...
• you welcome the challenge
• the second round begins and once again "handsome_starr" releases a flurry of attacks that leaves you in the corner completly at his mercy
• dont get it wrong, you have played as shao kahn before. you know his combos, fatalities, general move set, etc. you're no stranger to the character.
• but the way this player managed to move this heavy character around so swiftly was something you couldn't wrap your head around
• thankfully you've wised up by now, so you dodge Jade out of the way before Shao Kahn lands a devastating blow with his war hammer
• the match ends with "starr" getting the victory, much to your dismay
• naturally, you rematch with the player and you two go at it for way longer than you both realize
• after the 3rd or 4th rematch you get a notification at the top left corner of your TV screen
• "handsome_starr sent you a friend request"
• you exit out of the game momentarily and accept the pending request
• as soon as the action goes through you receive a message from your new friend
• "gg"
• short, sweet, and to the point. nice
• "u 2" you reply
• "I like ur play style w/ Jade. its cool !"
• your mouth curled up into a smirk, pride swelling up in your chest at the compliment. you decided to return the favor to him and give him some very much needed credit as well
• "thx. ur rly rly good w/ shao k."
• time once again slips past you two as you talk over the system chatroom for what seems like mere minuets. But when you glance at the display clock on screen it shows that a few hours have passed
• how you both managed to type for such a long time using game controllers is beyond anyone
• this quickly becomes a thing between you guys
• you power on your console, play some games, get a notif from starr asking to play MK11, then go back and forth in the mobile chatroom (you learned from last time)
• you also learned that starr isnt just an amazing shao kahn player but he's an even better spawn player too
• one day while the two of you are chatting after a particularly good match (you decimated him in all 3 matches. props to you being a quick learner and spotting his patterns) starr ask a question you weren't quite expecting
• "socials?"
• you stared at the screen for a second as you realized what starr meant by that. why did you never think of this before?
• you thought about every middle school online safety video you were shown as a kid
• well...starr doesn't seem like a murderer who will stalk you so..
• "ya, heres my ig:"
•was it stupid to give your personal social media account to someone you've only known for a few months? yeah
• was it even more stupid if you also didn't even know the guys first name?...yeh
• but you didn't get much time to think through all the logic behind your reasonings as you accepted his follow request
• you were absolutely baffled as you saw pictures of who you assume is starr
• how is it possible that this is the same person who mains such brash and gruesome characters? starr looks so...much different than you imagined
• to be honest, you weren't exactly sure what to expect
• but the first thing that came to your mind when you imagined a shao kahn and spawn player was definitely not the cute and seemingly innocent face of the male smiling in these photos displayed in front of you
• it was a good different though!
• a very good different...
• starr sends you a dm through instagram while you were looking through his page
• "ur name is y/n?"
• "ya thats me" you mentally facepalm when you realize you didn't even check to find his real name.
• you look at his profile again and read his bio
• "kim sunoo?"
• "yup thats me ^^ " comes the reply from the other end
• starr..well, sunoo always used little emojis at the end of his sentences when you guys would speak but, you're not sure why it comes off as so cute this time around..
• you shake the thought off as soon as it comes, 'really? falling for the guy as soon as you see a picture of him? you're better than that y/n!' you mentally scold yourself as you try to get your senses together
• sunoo send a picture of you in chat, which confused you but also brung on a small pang of anxiety.
• "this is you??"
• you swallowed down harshly and replied back with confirmation
• "woah..ur rly pretty :o "
• you wanted to throw your phone out of your window and never talk to sunoo ever again
• you felt your whole body heat up at the unexpected compliment and hid your goofy smile from no one in your empty room
• "thx. ur not too bad yourself haha"
• "oh thanks, that means a lot coming from you ~"
• huh, you give a guy your ig page and he suddenly takes a flirty 180
• "dude ur cute ! dont even try it lol"
• "haha 😅"
• sunoo sends another picture of you in chat, but luckily your heart doesnt beat as nervously this time around
• "woa! you cosplay!?"
• ah, how could you forget about that post
• you were at a convention posing dramatically as one of your favorite characters
• "lol yeah i dont do it *all* the time but since i was attending that con i decided to go all out, ya know?"
• "wow! as if you couldn't get any cuter.."
• you huffed out a laugh through your nose and shook your head at his message
• "heh, ur down bad sunoo"
• of course you were too. but sunoo did NOT need to know that...

Kim Sunoo
Based on my Jungwon smau, 💫The Occult Club.
Tumblr media
Pairing:Numerologist! Matchmaker! Sunoo x Fem! Reader.
Genre: Fluff, strangers to lovers, High School AU, fantasy themes.
Synopsis: The city’s resident numerologist, Kim Sunoo, also known for being a member of the Occult Club and one of the most popular students at school, recently opened his brand-new business that offers matchmaking services and relationship counseling. Some of his clients had already become regulars, but there is a particular girl who keeps visiting him to ask for advice on how to win the heart of an incompatible match… But why is she so persistent?
Warnings: None!
Word count: 5,7k.
Tumblr media
The numerologist waved Jungwon off, rolling his eyes in an attempt to not lose the last sprinkle of patience left in him at the insistence of his tarotist friend 一Yeah, I’m very super extra sure, you have nothing to worry about一 He took a last glance at the boy’s hand firmly holding the medium’s, and let out a heavy breath. 一Enjoy your date, I promise your precious cabin will still stand intact when you come back一. He quickly closed the door on the couple’s face before they could retort, the newly installed bell ringing in the process.
一Are you sure you and Sunghoon can manage the cabin all by yourselves?一 A very worried Jungwon asked for the fifth time in the last hour. Of course the young leader trusted his club members more than anyone, but at the same time he had more than enough reasons to have his doubts about the pair of magicians being left unsupervised in each other’s company for two hours straight. The numerologist and the geomancer were actually good friends, don’t get them wrong, it is just that their opinions could differ at times, and having two extra stubborn boys arguing was the perfect formula for inevitable mayhem. Jungwon only hoped that, given how fond Sunghoon was of Sunoo, he would let their differences slide just for this two hours and do as the youngest wished.
一Are we really that annoying? He talked about us as if we were his problem children or something一 Sunghoon said, more to himself, as he arranged the materials for his next class that would take place in a few minutes. Sunoo looked at the thick stack of papers and wondered how could the geomancer fail all his classes and hold so much knowledge at the same time, he thought it was somehow admirable how clear the older boy’s priorities were. 一Hey, I wanted to ask一 Sunghoon continued as he placed, well, more like sprawled all the materials in the table 一Why do you stay until late for your love thingy instead of just adding it as a new service to manage at the same time as the other ones?一.
Sunoo sat across him at the table and picked a random chart, a frown immediately making its way into his face as he clearly not understood what the patterns of dots meant 一I really enjoy helping other people understand themselves on a deeper level using numerology一 He gave up on the chart and placed in on the others, mindlessly organizing all the papers that Sunghoon had messily placed 一The matchmaking service is just an experiment, I don’t know yet if I will like it as much, but my clients are mostly students; What do you think would happen if I don’t make a special, separated time to give relationship advice?一 Sunoo arched his eyebrows at the older boy as if signaling him to take a guess, of course the latter had no idea and simply raised his shoulders 一Some people our age have an unhealthy obsession with love, and I don’t want my, let’s call it primordial service be overshadowed by the matchmaking thing… That’s why I’m making it a separate thing一. He looked so proud of his methodical procedures as if he had waited years for someone to finally ask him about it.
And oh, if he had more than enough reasons to brag about his debut as Cupid being an immediate success, getting him dozens of clients on his first day. It was a well-deserved outcome considering how much effort the numerologist put into promoting himself. Sunoo was a popular boy, he had many “contacts” that could spread the word as fast as the wind across all the school hallways. He did not feel close enough to any of them to refer to them as “friends” whatsoever, he just considered them as some kind of a minor-scale, beneficial business connection; As anyone could guess, Sunoo was very serious about his work.
Barely a week had passed since the numerologist started to ironically offer relationship advice (As he had explained countless times to his friends, he was “single by choice”... Pretty much since he was evicted from the womb; his vast knowledge in love really caught all of his teammates by surprise), and for some inexplicable reason, some of his clients were regulars already. This fact just further proved his hypothesis about students his age being obsessed with the idea of getting into a relationship. If that one boy who visited him three days straight to test his compatibility with eight different people was not enough proof, nothing was.
The Master of Soil and his group of loyal padawans had now taken over the table area, revising some contents from last lesson, something about the meaning of different houses in the chart. Sunoo took it as a sign to take his leave in order to give them some privacy and silence, since his clients tended to be rather loud, and also hearing about so many things he had no idea about was slowly causing the motherboard in his brain to overheat.
Sunghoon and his students were so immersed in their own thing that the loud screech that left the numerologist’s mouth went almost unnoticed. The boy had reached for the door handle to head outside, but opened it so fast that he missed the girl outside who was about to do the same, scaring both of them in the process.
The poor girl had a hand dramatically placed over her chest, her eyes wide open as she tried to recover upon seeing the boy who stood before her, mirroring her actions, but with an extra sprinkle of sass. They both stared at each other sternly as if they were silently waiting for the other to apologize first. Sunoo decided that, given the girl was a potential client, he had to give her the win 一I’m sorry一 He wasn’t, he had technically opened the door first! 一What brings you here?一.
The girl extended her arm in an attempt to shake the boy’s hand 一Hello, I’m Y/N一. He contemplated a little before giving in and briefly greeting her 一You must be Kim Sunoo, right? I’m here for some advice, if you could help me一.
The numerologist nodded and signaled her to follow him outside the cabin. The pair headed to a small table with two chairs that was placed under the shadow of a particularly big tree, a few meters away from the cabin. Sunoo always thought that between his group of rather introverted friends, he was the most talkative one, always getting everyone’s unwavering attention as they listened to everything he had to say; But now, being in the presence of an embodiment of a parrot that walked beside him, ranting about so many things he could barely catch on, he felt brutally defeated in an imaginary competition of annoyingness. Still, as someone who always took an active role in conversations, being for this once the one who listens felt somehow refreshing.
Y/N told him something about her being a “fan of his work” and “waiting for so long until she gathered the courage to finally reach out to him”, almost making Sunoo shy away from her gaze. He already knew very well that he was popular at school, but listening to this girl talking as if he was some kind of celebrity was new to him, not that he minded the attention though.
The pair sat across from each other at the table, and after offering his client something to drink, the matchmaker commenced the session by asking about the girl’s motives. She blinked a few times and took a sip of water, as if trying to gain more time to think about what to say. 一I know it’s not easy, to talk to a stranger like me about something so private like a crush一 Sunoo started, catching the hesitation that bloomed in her eyes. The confident and talkative girl from before was nowhere to be seen 一But I need you to understand that I’m here to help you, not to judge you一 He offered her a reassuring smile 一Also, I’m not some kind of gossiper, your secret is safe with me!一.
Y/N took a deep breath and started talking at an unexpected lightning speed, as if she wanted to let go of her worries as soon as possible; Sunoo could easily tell that it was her intention, as he had done the same thing plenty of times himself. 一There is this guy I like, but I’m scared of approaching him because I’m still not sure whether he will like me and I don’t want to make him feel uncomfortable so I wanna make sure if there is even the tiniest possibility of us being compatible before talking to him. I researched a lot about that and that’s how I found about numerology…一 Does this girl even breathe? 一Then I found out that he is a number four and I’m a five so…一
Sunoo raised his hand to interrupt her ramble 一I don’t think you can make that work一. He swore the look of disappointment in Y/N’s eyes at the revelation was the most heartbreaking one a client had given him yet, but he had to be honest with her, that was the only way he could keep up the matchmaking service as legit as possible. 一Listen, five and four are possibly the worst match to ever exist, their archetypes are literally the exact opposite from each other一.
The girl regained her composure 一But opposites attract!一. How stubborn, Sunoo thought, as if he was not the most obstinate person he knew. 一It can’t be that bad… Right?一. She almost regretted saying that after seeing the look of slight exasperation in his face.
一Oh, but it is一 Y/N almost cracked up at his sudden sass, but was able to maintain her neutral countenance 一A number four will be so mean to a five! Because they are like super rigid, and intolerant to number four’s lack of discipline.一 She found almost endeading how he talked about numbers as if he was sharing gossip on a real couple behind their backs 一A four is more free-willed, and like adventure, but five will try to hold them back because they are not into that stuff… Basically it won't work out for you一.
一Wow, Kim Sunoo一 She slowly clapped her hands in a sarcastic manner 一You just ended my year-long pinning on that guy as easy as that!一. It was obvious that Y/N was joking, but the numerologist suddenly felt a bit guilty for being so straight-forward; And yet, the girl in front of him showed no signs of being actually affected by his words, if anything, her eyes sparked with a newfound determination 一I will find a way to make it work, I don’t care if our numbers don’t match!一.
Sunoo arched an eyebrow 一Then why did you come here in the first place if you weren’t planning to…一 He shook his head, deciding that the question could come out a bit rude 一Forget it.一 He was about to get up from his chair to accompany Y/N, who was gathering her things to leave, when a sudden idea popped up in his head 一If you really don’t want to give up…一 Her ears perked up at that, looking at him with anticipation. She considered herself lucky that the boy did not seem to notice how slowly she was putting her jacket on, trying to gain more time 一You can tell me what day of the month were you and your crush born so I can calculate the second influence number, the spiritual one一.
Of course Y/N had no clue what he meant by that, given she barely found out about the whole numerology thing about a week ago, but the thought of having a second chance brought her smile back 一Sure! I was born on the second, and he…一 She suddenly stopped, and for a split second she almost looked… Scared? 一I- I don’t know!一 An awkward laugh followed her stuttering, as she mentally slapped herself for being so dumb and careless 一But I’ll make sure to find out!一.
The numerologist frowned, how can she like a person for an entire year but not know his birthday? How did she even calculate the life path number in the first place? Before he could even elaborate any of the questions, Y/N was already excusing herself, saying something about forgetting to do her daily missions on a phone game and having to leave as soon as possible. She thanked a very confused Sunoo for his help, and disappeared from his view fast enough for him to not be able to process it.
Just… What was all that about? He tried to wave it off in order to pay attention to the new client that was waiting for him at the cabin, but something about the girl had him daydreaming almost the entire session. Even if they talked for about ten minutes, Y/N’s drastic changes of personality left a big impression on Sunoo, as she went from being extremely chatty, to suddenly getting shy, then becoming rather suspicious and secretive. There was a lot to unpack from the relatively brief time they spent together, but for now all he could do was hope that Y/N would keep her promise and visit him again.
Luckily for him, she did, after the slowest week Sunoo had ever lived though. 一Can you please stop looking out the window? You weirdo一 He had not even noticed that he was staring at the girl emerging from the thick forest until Sunghoon pointed it out. As much as the oldest of the two was right, the numerologist could not help but feel annoyed, why did he try to make it a big deal? It was only natural for Sunoo to feel curious about Y/N's findings, he just wanted to know how her love story would unfold, like the great matchmaker he was.
The younger boy briefly glared at the geomancer and exited the cabin before the girl could open the door, just in case any sarcastic comment escaped Sunghoon’s lips unannounced. The girl barely had time to greet him as she was almost dragged to the table outside as soon as Sunoo spotted her.
Now sitting across each other again at the familiar spot, Y/N accepted the water that was once more offered to her 一What was all that about?一. She could barely perceive faint trails of the serious boy she had met last week, but of course Sunoo could not just explain that he was trying to not draw his friend’s attention, so he opted to change the subject instead, asking her to update him on her findings about the boy she had tried so hard to be a good match for. 一I actually searched online how to calculate the number, to save you the trouble, you know?一 Y/N seemed way more relaxed around him in comparison to last week’s session, the observation made Sunoo himself feel glad; When you dedicate your life to the occult, being trusted by your clients is probably the most gratifying sensation one could ever feel. 一I found out I’m a number two, and my crush is a six… What does that mean?一 She unconsciously leaned forward on the table, prompting her elbows on the surface as she looked at him with expectation.
Sunoo gazed at the deep forest and contemplated for a while, certainly making the girl in front of him a little anxious, but he still took his time to carefully choose his words, not wanting to sound as mean as last time 一Number six is someone who gives orders out of love, you know, like a “parent friend”, which can be annoying for most, but number two is one of the only exceptions一 He fixed his eyes back on Y/N’s wide open ones 一Number two will understand number six and follow them. Still…一 There it was, the expected downside 一Given it’s only a secondary number the one that matches, I still think it’s a bad idea, sorry一.
Sunoo surprised himself after apologizing, as it was the first time he did so. If someone ever thought the matchmaker had any sort of ill intentions after seeing how straightforward his predicaments are, those people would be far from the truth. It was not the job of a numerologist to feed on their client’s fantasies with white lies, he had to be honest, brutally so if needed, so no one would leave the same chair Y/N was occupying now with high expectations, only to be left heartbroken by reality in one way or another. He was only trying to help, and he always thought his methods were the most adequate ones… Then why did his heart sink at the sight of the girl leaving as soon as she heard his last words?
Y/N’s expression of pure defeat followed him all the way to his bedroom when club activities were done for the day, consuming his thoughts until his brain pitied him enough to let sleep take over him and stop the headache. A bitter sympathy had taken over him, thinking about how the girl would be feeling, knowing the presumed “perfect guy for her” could never be anything but a stranger, an old memory to be forgotten. Sunoo thought it was weird how Y/N could be so into someone, to a point where the thought of having to give up on that person wounded her young heart. Was he being insensitive for thinking there were more fish on the pond to choose from? Why was all this such a big deal for her?
一Why are young people so obsessed with love?一 He mumbled in his sleepy state like someone who would never work as a Cupid wannabe every evening. His unconscious mind indirectly called him a hypocrite, reminding him of all those times when his gaze lingered more than needed on his friends, Jungwon and Jake, every time they spent some quality time with their respective girlfriends on the school hallways or the cafeteria. “Those guys are two lucky bastards” he thought to himself, specially the club leader and his dear medium; They were so different from each other, and yet their bond was indescribably strong and pure, they were really the club’s power couple.
Could it be that he had misjudged Y/N’s situation? Could two people as different as her and this mysterious crush she kept mentioning actually be able to work out? Humans are certainly very complex beings, there are way too many points to take into consideration when trying to decide, as a matchmaker, if a couple will be able to last… Mayhaps the only way to be completely sure of the compatibility between two people, is trying to be together; But he can not just say that out loud, as it defeats the entire purpose of his service, and of course love comes in a 1 + 1 package along with plenty of risks, part of his job is to help his clients to avoid heartbreak after all.
One of the things Sunoo detested the most in this world, beside sock holes and the food crumbs Sunghoon sometimes leaves on the table, is having to recognize when he is being contradictory, but he could not help it, the complexity of Y/N’s situation was slowly drawing him insane with all these mixed feelings between his rational and emotional side. Without being able to help it, Sunoo had awoken in the middle of the night, staring blankly at the ceiling as his thoughts started to torment him one more.
一Stop biting your nails, you’ll hurt your fingers!一 It was friday again, exactly one week had went by after Y/N’s last visit, and the numerologist felt no better after the restless night he spent thinking about the lovesick girl’s dilemma. Jungwon, as the caring leader he was, had approached Sunoo to check up on him before leaving the cabin 一Are you okay? Do you need to talk about… whatever is happening to you?一.
一I bet it’s about a girl一 The medium meddled, snickering at the frown she received in response, as she hung a strap of her school bag over her shoulder 一I can’t believe The Kim Sunoo, the most popular guy in the whole city, is having girl problems一 She teased, earning a muffled laugh from her boyfriend, who also got stared at by the numerologist. 一Don’t worry, I’m sure she will like you back…一
一I don’t have girl problems!一 He interrupted her, louder than he intended, though his friends did not take it to heart, as they knew just how explosive the matchmaker could get. And of course, since Fate and Destiny are two twisted, unpredictable forces, the sound of a bell made the couple’s laughter come to a halt, as an unfamiliar (to them, that is) face peeked from the door. 一Oh…一 Sunoo’s demeanor took a full turn as he turned “Professional mode” on with a scary duality 一Hello, Y/N, are you here to see me?一.
After all that happened the last time they saw each other, the matchmaker had no hopes of seeing the girl ever again, at the cabin, at least. But he was yet again proved wrong, sitting once more across her on the table outside, offering her the usual glass of lukewarm water. 一You are not one to give up that easily, are you?一 He started, smiling in amusement. He could not understand why, but seeing her again had put him in a good mood.
The girl returned the gesture 一Yeah, you could say that…一 She gazed down at the transparent liquid and then back at the boy in front of her 一At first, I actually felt somewhat convinced by your words一 Was she referring to the ones Sunoo lowkey regretted saying? Probably 一But then my stubborn side kicked again, and now I’m here again, to convince you that we can work out.一 Y/N realized how misinterpreted her last sentence could get after noticing a frown forming in Sunoo’s features. She waved her hands in slight panic 一I mean me and my crush! By the way...一.
The girl broke eye contact in embarrassment, but the matchmaker only chuckled at her actions. 一Don’t worry一 He reassured 一I get what you mean… But why do you want to convince me?一 Why would his opinion be so important for her? If she was so sure about approaching the man that had her running laps and go as far as to consult a matchmaker, she could have simply done so.
一I don’t want to sound rude or anything一 The stare she was giving to the water inside the glass was so intense that he feared it would start boiling any second now. 一But if in the end, I can make a relationship between two incompatible people work out, it will only prove that your numerology thing is wrong…一 Wait, what? 一So I’ll be able to stop you from telling people not to pursue the person they like. Isn’t that right?一 She raised her head again to meet his eyes. Yet again, the spark of determination in her gaze that made Sunoo feel goosebumps blazed once more.
His pride was stronger, though, and adding to that, he had just been indirectly insulted, so of course he could not let it slide that easily, even if he was starting to grow fond of the girl. 一Listen一 His tone was so serious that Y/N felt her previous confidence shake before him 一My job here is to give advice, not orders, because people are way too complex for me to be able to give you concrete evidence that proves I’m right. You can do as you please, it’s not my business anyway, I’m just here to guide you…一.
一Sorry一 She stopped him before his voiced raised any higher 一You’re right, I shouldn't have said that一. Taking Y/N’s past antics in account, Sunoo never thought she could be this flexible and apologize so fast, but he was glad she did, or else his annoyance could have taken the best of him, and of course the numerologist would regret it and blame himself immediately if things ever got ugly between them. 一Still一 She continued, softening her tone 一I’m still not sure of what do I want to do, so… Could you perhaps keep on helping me?一.
And so he did. Throughout the entirety of two long months, Y/N visited the club every Friday with no exception. Sunghoon had joked a lot about Sunoo looking like one of Iván Pávlov’s experimental dogs, sitting near to the window and gazing expectantly at the lush forest as soon as the clock hit the time for the rest of the members to take their leave. The numerologist simply retorted that it was out of character for the geomancer to know such a concept, given the poor state of his grades, and that was enough to make the foolery cease.
It was hard to deny for Sunoo that he had grown to enjoy his brief chats with Y/N, debating about the compatibility of numbers four and five. Every Friday, the girl would show up with a new argument just for him to effortlessly tear it apart, then she would head back home to do more research to counterattack his sharp words the week after. What the numerologist found to be the most odd of all this, was that even after he rejected the girl’s money, explaining that his job was not complete until she was satisfied with the results, she still insisted in paying him for every session; for him, though, talking to her did not even feel close to working, it was more like spending time with a friend than anything else.
However, at the end of the day, Y/N was just a client, and Sunoo had come to that realization in the harshest way, when he waited for the girl to visit him on a Friday that felt like any other, but she was nowhere to be seen. A lot of people in search of love advice showed up, but the matchmaker could not hide the disappointment that flooded his face every time a silhouette emerging from between the trees did not match hers.
一You look like an abandoned puppy一 Sunghoon commented, very helpful on his part, after the last of his students left the place. It was already time to go home, but Sunoo was still gazing at the window. Pandora and her stupid box were right, he thought to himself, hope really is the most self-destructive emotion a person can ever feel. 一It’s not the end of the world, don’t be so pessimistic一 Wait, did he say that out loud? 一You can look for her at school, you know?一.
The younger boy suddenly got up from his chair and pointed dramatically at his friend 一I never thought I would say this, but you are actually a genius!一 How come he did not think of that earlier? He could have saved so much time instead of lamenting the entire afternoon while trying to counsel his clients. Multitasking is never easy when your head is a mess and a whirlwind of mixed emotions takes a chance to torment you every time you let your guard down.
Monday could not arrive any faster, and luckily for Sunoo, he could easily spot the table Y/N was sharing with her group of friends at the cafeteria, and when I say “group”, I mean there was no space left for anyone else to seat. He guessed it was only expected of someone so bold and extroverted as her to have quite the social circle; He then questioned his own popularity at the sight, since he had no explanation as to why he had not noticed her presence earlier, being the social butterfly he was.
Finding her was easy, but approaching her? That was a challenge he had not expected to face, like at all. Usually, it was pretty easy for him to start a conversation with total strangers regardless of the context, but something about the murderous looks Y/N’s friends were giving him firmly glued his butt to the seat beside Jake. Why would they be mad at him? He took a minute to rewind over his conversations shared with the girl, but failed to find what could be causing such aggressive behavior.
It took everything from him to regain his composure and restore his confidence; Sunoo felt challenged by their stares, and of course he would never lose to just anyone in this game of intimidation, so he stood up, ignoring the sudden questions shot by his friends, and approached Y/N’s table with determined steps. 一Can we talk for a moment?一 He briefly fixed his stare in each one of the unfamiliar faces 一In private一.
She scoffed in disdain, but agreed to follow him outside nonetheless. They walked in complete silence until the matchmaker was a hundred percent sure no one could eavesdrop on their little conversation; The last thing he wanted was for their private business to be spread around school and morph into misformation somewhere along the way. 一Can you explain to me why are you and your friends burning holes into my skull?一 He tried to sound neutral, but the mental image of Y/N talking badly about him for no apparent reason behind his back was starting to annoy him.
一Why are you so clueless? I thought you were the smart one in your club一 She crossed her arms in a defensive demeanor 一Do you really have no idea why I’m so mad at you?一. At least Sunoo got confirmation that he was not just seeing things, and there was something actually going on with her, he just had to connect the dots now.
He arched both eyebrows as realization finally hit him 一Please don’t tell me you are mad because your crush rejected you, I tried so hard not to give you any false hope!一.
一Oh, but you did一 Her dry tone was hard to decipher, was his hypothesis correct? 一You looked perfectly fine while talking to me all those days一 …Or maybe not 一It gave me hope that maybe, we could be together just fine一. Sunoo tilted his head in confusion, trying to read her eyes in search for the hidden meaning of her words, but all he found was that familiar spark of courage that made her countenance glow in confidence, reminding him of all those Fridays back when she would come up with a new way to retort his rational thinking. 一Kim Sunoo, I like you一.
Well, he was not exactly expecting a confession, but the more he thought about it, the more it made absolute sense. How could he miss all the coincidences between him and Y/N’s alleged crush? He recalled the girl mockingly referring to him as the “smartest member in the club” and telepathically apologized for being the exact opposite. As someone who faced plenty of social situations every day, Sunoo had turned to be pretty sharp, being able to read between the lines and interpret facial expressions with an impressive accuracy, it was embarrassingly out of character for him to be this oblivious.
一Listen, Y/N一 He scratched his neck out of nervous habit 一I think you are great, and I had a lot of fun the lasts months you visited me to talk about matchmaking and all that…一 Her face was telling him how she was mentally prepared for rejection, all hope gone as fast as it came 一...And I gotta admit you made some points back then, but guessing from how mad you and your friends are at me, I bet I said a lot of mean things that hurt you… So I really don’t get why would you like me一. Sunoo might have forgotten (Completely unintentional, yeah…) to add how worried he felt last Friday when Y/N broke the two-month strike of visits, but that’s for him and Sunghoon only to know.
一What are you talking about?一 She chuckled at his little rant 一I’m only mad at you for not noticing my feelings before, of course I was never offended by your honesty一. The numerologist released a sigh of relief at that, earning a fond smile from her part 一I understand you meant well, and you didn’t want me to have false hope… I’m the number two to your six, remember?一 She jokingly wiggled her eyebrows, making him roll his eyes at the silly reference, but the smile that peeked from the corners of his lips gave away his true feelings.
一Well, let’s say I swallow my pride as a matchmaker and give you a chance…一 Anyone passing by could accidentally catch them smiling dumbly at each other with giddy expressions plastered on their faces 一Aren’t you an impulsive one for confessing so out of the blue?一.
She took a confident step closer 一Oh, believe me when I tell you it can get worse一.
一Really?一 He closed the distance even more, taking notice of the height difference. This was the closest they have ever been, as now there was no table impeding them from studying each other’s faces, or smelling the scent of the other’s shampoo. 一How come so?一.
Y/N took initiative, grasping the red tie from Sunoo’s uniform to make him lower his head, and kissed him, without caring of possible students spying on them, or getting scolded by the teachers. She set a slow pace, taking her time to savor the lips she had waited so long for.
On his part, Sunoo was on cloud nine, holding tightly onto her waist, goosebumps blooming on his neck at the feeling of her hands on his hair. Right at this moment, he decided that he would never regret accepting her, regardless of the aftermath; He would never let numbers stop him again, and even if all the signs pointed at uncompatibility, he would enjoy his time with the girl in his arms against all challenges Fate dared throw at them, because now, he finally came to understand that opposites can indeed attract.
