what i'm listening to november 2023. the agony
spot. link//yt link
song notes under cut
Laura Les - Haunted: haunted. by laura les.
Garbage - Queer: stand up for the fag anthem. but also let's be real one of the main draws here is the music video where shirley manson pushes the pov character down to the ground and forcibly shaves your head while singing "i know what's good for you." i'm a lesbian
Chris Fleming - W.U.G.: i've met a couple wugs in my time but more than anything i'm just on my chris fleming shit recently. this one has been stucks in my head sooo bad and bsaically anytime i see the word "guy" it comes back with a vengeance
Limp Bizkit & Method Man - N 2 Gether Now: random lb songs will really just crop up in my rotation for seemingly no reason but really this one has so many good lines and the addition of method man brings it up by so much. it's comical on some level bc it's like why is he here, he's like. a real rapper. and fred sounds so out of his depth next to him. but at the same time they both do actually really pretty good. pull the plug and then jet. MIC CHECK.
Sloppy Jane - Bark Like a God: recommended by a friend. need to listen to the full album but this goes insane goes crazy i mean those damn vocals and the THEMES ugh i mean what else do you need in this world. don't even really know what to call this band but it good and i need more
Almeda Riddle - My Little Rooster: Gummo is a 1997 American experimental drama film written and directed by Harmony Korine, starring Jacob Reynolds, Nick Sutton, Jacob Sewell, and Chloë Sevigny. The film is set (but was not filmed) in Xenia, Ohio, a Midwestern American town that had been previously struck by a devastating tornado. The loose narrative follows several main characters who find odd and destructive ways to pass time, interrupted by vignettes depicting other inhabitants of the town.
Destroy Boys - Fences: mostly just real catchy. many such cases. but there is a certain doggish quality to it as well
Enon - Natural Disasters: hi violer :3 ooh ahh the song so catchy the riff so tastey and shiney
Limp Bizkit - The Truth: i watched the band's short film of the same name recently and was pretty underwhelmed. but it did make me wanna go back and listen to the ep! it's been said to death but it's easily some of lb's best work, and not just because it's the serious one or whatever
Repo! The Genetic Opera - Night Surgeon: tbh there should be more repo on here but there's only so much space and this is undoubtedly my favorite track from the soundtrack (although "at the opera tonight" comes pretty damn close!!) i could listen to anthony head go "i remember" like that allllll day. i have been having some serious repo fixation recently i won't lie. give it a watch it's a normal movie
Foo Fighters - Everlong (Acoustic Version): okay look you guys know at this point how i get about everlong. so when i was watching hit film little nicky starring adam sandman and a rather beautiful sequence took place accompanied by a sparse acoustic version still laden in the characteristic warmth of the original song, of course i was hooked. and that's a nu metal-ass movie, too, but this was the pick i ended up making. that's special
Dropkick Murphys - I'm Shipping Up To Boston: WOOOOO BOSTON!!!!!!!! GO BRUINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET ME A CUP O DUNKS!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! YANKEES SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <is not from boston but rather a different place entirely
Fefe Dobson - Unforgiven: why did nobody tell me about this fuckin nu metal x y2k pop fusion. this is like rina sawayama stfu but all the way back in 200-goddamn-3. fefe you were before your time
MGMT - Little Dark Age: i don't know mgmt that well but i heard a little bit of this song in a youtube video long ago and really liked it and could never find it and then i happened to encounter it again and was like oh hello my old acquaintance shall we get to know each other better
Billy Joel - All For Leyna: beginning to realize that billy is good actually. every little part of this song is crunchy and sweet and delicious for me. and god i sure am doing it all for leyna aren't i......
Tom Cardy & Brian David Gilbert - Beautiful Mind: tbh this was far from my favorite effort from either of these guys...... didn't really think it was all that funny. had a very lol random sort of appeal that just didn't hit me right. however it does sound amazing, really clean, and they both have nice voices. plus you know i love them harmonies
Taco - Puttin' on the Ritz: they play this a lot at a cafe i go to sometimes. i used to not like this song but it's really grown on me. it's one of those absolutely one-of-a-kind songs that could have only been a hit at the exact time and place that it was. and i like stuff like that! you might even say i think it's super duper :)
Violent Femmes - Breakin' Up: this song is dumb as balls. and it sounds way better in my head than it does to actually listen to it. but! the video is really cool, with that simple but effective camera trick. i enjoy that
Bowling For Soup - Girl All the Bad Guys Want: if the previous song was dumb as balls, this song is dumb as. like. the epididymis. or like a single sperm cell. i don;t know man it's a dumb fucking song. but it's about a cool rap rocker girl :3 and that's meeeeee probably. when i listen to it i like to rate each lyric on how true it is. watching wrestling? maybe now and then. creaming over tough guys? hmmm no i would simply not do this. but listening to rap metal? turntables in her eyes?? now we're fuckin talkin!!!!!!!!!!

something something band au. team dark. omega on synths and samples and misc electronic stuff he plays thru his speakers, plus a physical keyboard he plucks at. rouge on bass, shadow on drums. like this maybe:
do you see me. shadow on bass rouge on drums also works. shadow’s the drumnbass guy choosing either drum or bass (different kind of drum or bass than what is typical of dnb lol) works well enough but it’s such a hard choice. but bassists/guitarists make better frontmen generally and rouge undeniably has the frontman energy between the two.
actually my choices have been largely based on the thought that omega wouldn’t have the dexterity for drums or anything other than keys, on account him being fucking huge and having metal cones for fingers, but i’m naive. he can do whatever he wants forever and imagine the physical comedy of him somehow sitting on a tiny stool wrecking the shit out of a drum kit. logistics don’t matter if it’s funny and you believe in it enough
omega on drums + synth n shit. he’s running a full daw. shadow on bass, rouge on guitar, all of em on vocals sometimes. this formation is also fun
the cool thing about band aus is that it unlocks a whole new level of autism. no longer do the songs i like need to have lyrics that i can even tangentially relate to fictional characters, i can just imagine them playing it

🕯️🌐 🪄 for the whumpy music ask game :3
🕯️ - a song with whumpy lyrics
Kitchen Fork by Jack Conte has some very whumpy lyrics, such as:
Tumblr media
Who doesn’t love murder via cutlery? It’s a classic for a good reason!! ^_^
🌐 - a song with the vibes of your whumpy story
Sugar Pills by IDKHBTFM (it’s a very long band name) has always reminded me of Spiderwebs, as well as Natural Disasters by Enon. They’re also a few of my favourite songs but I’m sure that’s just coincidence ❤️
🪄 - a song you love imagining something whumpy to
*GRABS YOU BY THE SHOULDERS*. Now (It’s Just The Gas) from Little Shop Of Horrors. This song has me in a chokehold. The death by asphyxiation. The indirect murder. THE LAUGHING!!! Not to mention the voice acting is excellent! 1 million stars out of ten I love it

SAVAK — Flavors of Paradise (Peculiar Works)
Tumblr media
The song “Up with the Sun” jangles and tumbles, guitars splaying out in rainbow chords, drums rumbling in continuous pummeling rolls, voices joined in harmonies — think R.E.M. early on or the Sadies in a not-so-country psychedelic mode. “Two Lamps” by contrast lurches along on clawed bass, stopping and starting in dank post-punk style, like E the band or FACS. Both songs raise a joyful clangor, but they are fundamentally different.
That’s because SAVAK is a band of post-punk lifers, headed by two songwriters with distinct styles. Sohrab Habibion comes from DC’s post-hardcore underground. He’s played in Edsel and the late, much lamented Obits. It is likely from him, a man of Iranian heritage, that the band took its name, which it shares with the Shah’s dreaded secret service. Michael Jaworski, by contrast, was born in Omaha, came of age in Seattle’s post-grunge underground where he fronted The Cops and Virgin Islands. The trio’s third permanent member is Matt Schulz, who played drums for Holy Fuck and Enon. Each of them has decades of experience. None of them have much left to prove. Flavors of Paradise is the sound of three guys locking in on the sounds that please them. If you like it, fine. If you don’t, it’s your loss (but really, why don’t you like it?).
The band’s egalitarian practice has been to alternate songs—one of Jaworski’s lush psychedelics, then one of Habibion’s jagged off-kilter anthems. And so we fall under the spell of the sspiraling, ruminative “Will Get Fooled Again” for a little bit (nice nod to the Who’s trippy power chorded aesthetic) and then head for the bristling propulsion and rough shouted energy of “Jump into the Night.” But look, here’s the thing. These guys have been playing together long enough that, even the headiest psychedelic jangle has a hard, rhythmic core, and even the bumpiest post-punk salvo culminates in shimmering guitar overload.  Two different sensibilities don’t exactly merge, but make room for each other, adapt to each other, and emerge all the stronger.
And in the end, what difference does it make who wrote what and who’s singing? These are tight, well-constructed punk rock songs, played with joy for the love of the game. Flavors of Paradise, for sure, if your idea of heaven has sticky floors and piles of amps.

Sad songs first:
And the band played waltzing Matilda
Khe sanh
When the war is over (doesn’t matter if it’s by cold chisel, jimmy barnes or John Farnham it’s the same song)
I was only nineteen (for some reason called a kids song??? When it most definitely is NOT)
It’s not many, but they are all about war and really hit in the feels. All but the first are about Vietnam
Now as for the fic it’s very Dead Dove, with non-con, character death, body horror, torture and necrophelia, so uhh still sure you want the link?
-Enon ♥️
wow. those r some sad songs.
and idk,,, whats the fic abt ?

““april”” playlist. as disjointed as always, some rock, some neo psychedelia or whatever, some hip-hop, some things i have no idea what genre they fit into. theres a shit ton of enon in there lol, sometimes you just gotta get obsessed with a band that disbanded in 2011. natural disasters is easily a new favourite song of all time to me. also juice by chance the rapper, iconic.

Enon Kawatani — a musical dream. How the heck does this person manage four bands at the same time (excluding his other musical endeavours)???!!! I came across 想いきり (omoikiri) by chance and I fell in love. Indigo la End is the type of music I enjoy. A little dive into the artists led me to his other band — Gesu no Kiwami Otome. And now they're on repeat. Wow. I haven't checked all of the other bands but this guy man he's quite something.

what i'm listening to 3/2024
spot.//yt
Limp Bizkit - Pollution: got this played on my local radio station bc i got connections
DC Talk - Jesus Freak: i have become OBSESSED with this christian rap rock (kind of) band. couldn't explain it very well myself but i think they're really fun and super silly. i've been listening to this particular song for quite some time now but it's only recently that my full obsession has developed and i've been getting other people roped into it too..... i'm just spreading the good word 😁
Whitechapel - The Saw Is the Law: had this one stuck in my head something FIERCE these past few weeks. just that crusher chorus line is so fucking good, I never was a huge whitechapel fan but they go hard when the mood is right. played it at work and everything
The Smiths - Bigmouth Strikes Again: cumming all over myself i love the riff and the melodies and there are some real good lines despite very few lyrics overall... admittedly that squeaky chipmunk harmony is pretty goofy but when the rest of it is so good who even care.
Faith No More - Midlife Crisis: i like this one more and more every time i hear it. a friend of mine introduced me to this and it's been stuck in my head relentlessly ever since. also definitely goofy as fuck but i love the kinda hardcore-type vocals mike patton throws into the verses, especially in the live version and the big swelling bridge. a song like this makes me get why people talk about faith no more as "proto-nu metal" or whatever..... fred durst would do some shit like this <3 also got this played on the radio station
Butthole Surfers - Cough Syrup: i don't like this band as much as i wish i did, though i've certainly got plenty more listening to do. def some stupid lyrics here bc it's the butthole surfers but i actually really really like "i can't talk so i guess i got nothing to say." something about that one
Third Eye Blind - Jumper: it's back! i think i've expended all the words i have about this already but man what a good little pop song
Breaking Benjamin - Skin: great example of how enjoying breaking benjamin is more about hearing the loud guitars and the unique syllabic experience of ben's weird as hell enunciation than it is about anything original or lyrical. what the hell is this song about i don't know. but it bangeth mightily. this also stands to represent that i and mine have been listening to a fuckton of bb lately
Elliott Smith - Cupids Trick: a dear friend of mine has put me on that elliott smith shit fairly recently and i think this is my fav from either/or... the riff so good and it's catchy and has a really dark punchy sound compared to the rest of the record (which is also real good! but just different)
Gorillaz - Cracker Island: heard this on the radio a ways back and instantly came all over myself and said "omg who is this is this the new sound of the summer????" and then looked it up and saw that it was a band i already know that's been around for decades ^_^ but it's just a banger and they found one good hook and punched it up to 11!!
Kittie - Eyes Wide Open: KITTIE BACK???? and with a rager O_O <me when my eyes are wide open. lol. not much further commentary here i'm just excited for the new record and i hope it's good and not bad
Enon - Window Display: my experience continues of getting into this band at the pace of a tortoise or perhaps a snail. p sure this is like the biggest song from them and. it good! they just have a tastey sound and i like the vocalist's delivery
Lamb Of God - Redneck: been on some metalcore shit too and like groove metal and shit and it hardly gets better than lamb of god. i feel like i haven't often properly appreciated them but what a consistently banger band. and this one just has some cool catchy parts that have been in my head since like high school. JUST! ONE! TIME!!!!!
Insane Clown Posse - Halls Of Illusions: my friends and i have been indulging in what we're calling "fucked up friday" which sometimes includes icp as a soundtrack. still want to listen to the full album with people at some point. but anyway i never took too too much notice of this track until a friend put it on and i realized how good it is. and frankly kind of saw-coded w it
Drowning Pool - Tear Away: kind of not great but the chorus glued itself to me. sort of the death toll of nu metal giving in to the way of the post-grunge ballad but man this vocalist was damn solid!
Victoria Monét - On My Mama: proof that i haven't completely exited the pop listening sphere. i still got todd. go watch the top ten of 2023 for a review
Rai Panesar - I Don't Give a Shet (IDGAS): okay this is a stupid joke song. i think. but i like to imagine it's sincere. like i like to imagine the dude that made this thought it was actually pretty cool and had fun making it. i'm scared to find anything else out about him bc it might ruin this hope that i have
Theory of a Deadman - Rx (Medicate): SUCKS. but kind of fascinating. how the fuck did theory have a hit in like 2017 or whenever this came out. by making a hip hop country rock song about doing drugs. oh okay
The Revivalists - Wish I Knew You: adding this alongside cigarette daydream in the canon of "indie band has relentlessly catchy pop hit that i listen to a bunch and attach memories to but actually think kind of sucks ass." i heard this in a restaurant a while back and went omg it's crazy by gnarls barkley i love crazy by gnarls barkley despite not really having very strong feelings about crazy by gnarls barkley but well these are the things we think to ourselves. so i kept waiting for the part where he goes does that make me craaaaazayyyyyy.... but it never came!!!! every chorus would just end on nothing and then move on to the next verse. i got edged by this song until almost the very end where i finally figured out what song it actually was and then got that stuck in my head but i'm still bitter! motherfucker! and also i don't like their band name. what exactly are you reviving 🤨

De Algemene Verwarring #99 - 16 October 2023
The ninety-ninth episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, October 16, 2023, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is Brooklyn, NY, based band The Rogers Sisters. And you know what, they are actually sisters: Laura Rogers and Jennifer Rogers, and there is als vocalist and bass player Miyuki Furtado. The band didn't exist for that long and as far as I know the two sisters aren't actively involved in music making anymore. I saw the band when I was in New York, they played a gig under the Brooklyn Bridge together with Enon and Telepathe, and I thought they were a really great band. They also got a spot on the Rough Trade Shops "Post Punk" compilation on Rough Traden that's actually where I first heard them and I honestly thought they were an early eighties band somehow. Their debut album 'Purely Evil' that was released by Troubleman Unlimited is still a classic in my eyes. There's more post punk in this episode, new and older, from Family Fodder, Magazine, The Toads, and The Cure, yes. Also some quiet music from Roy Montgomery, Mist and the great new album by Maxine Funke. And a long awaited brand new release from Swedish underground loving and Gent based label B.A.A.D.M.. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!
