The ''Seikilos Epitaph'' is the oldest surviving complete musical composition, including musical notation, from anywhere in the world. This is our first ever interpretation of this ancient song using only an 'ancient' Greek lyre, kymbala('ancient' cymbals) and vocals (female & male) recorded 23 years ago. The piece was written by Seikilos and was probably dedicated to his deceased wife Euterpe, which said: 'While you live shine, have no grief at all, life exists only for a short while and time demands its toll'.
Released for the first time on Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music and other digital platforms, enjoy!

In search of some background music, I came across this lovely group.
Daemonia Nymphe is a band founded in 1994 by Spyros Giasafakis and Evi Stergiou. Their music is made with replicas of ancient Greek instruments, such as the aulos and kithara. The group has not been active much in recent years. Their most recent album stems from 2013, but they have released a couple of singles in the meantime. Judging from videos of live performances, these are quite theatrical.
Though their songs definitely have modern influences, they use original hymns as a basis for lyrics and composition.
Recommended listen: Daemonia Nymphe (2006 album). Hypnos from Psychostasia (2013).

Daemonia Nymphe (Δαιμόνια Νύμφη) is a Greek music band established in 1994 by Spyros Giasafakis and Evi Stergiou. The band's music is modeled after Ancient Greek music and is often categorized as neoclassical or neofolk.
Daemonia Nymphe uses authentic instruments, including lyre, varvitos, krotala, pandoura and double flute, which are made by the Greek master Nicholas Brass. Their shows are very theatrical, with members wearing masks and ancient dresses. Their lyrics are drawn from Orphic and Homeric hymns and Sappho's poems for Zeus and Hekate.
Recommended listening while reading Donna Tartt’s “The Secret History.”

From the Ruins of the Temple of Poseidon:
‘’ It is finally time to announce that we have entered the studio to record our new album, ten years after our latest opus ‘Psychostasia’. We have been working for quite some time now composing, recording and mixing new material.
We are documenting the process and will post some photos and videos of the development of the work. We still have a long way to go, so we cannot announce the title of the album or the release date yet; we will keep you updated though, so please stay tuned.’’ Spyros Giasafakis II
The new album will be recorded in Thessaloniki, Athens and London.

Our first attempt to combine 'ancient' Greek instruments and electric cello with the lovely Jo Quail, 8 years ago in London!
"-Jo Quail, Spyros Giasafakis II and Evi Stergiou - Performing music inspired by the moment, composed and performed using 'ancient' Greek instruments and electric cello. Each concert is unique; the pieces are largely improvised, the instruments blend and entwine and the music is rich and unbridled. All the instruments that Evi and Spyros will use are manufactured by Nikolaos Brass" at i'klectik/ Art-lab
