So today I read a lot of faction paradox short stories (and immediately recommended the series to my mom. A full 180 from my previous swears to keep everyone I love away from this insanity) and I now know so much about Lolita that I just. She really. I mean. She is The Woman of all time. Such an icon. I made this. and while I’m sharing it with you I just want to say that no matter who you are, you can:

• wear long dresses that you like and still fight for human rights

• start a family and not believe it’s every uterus-yielding person’s duty to do the same

• be a homemaker if that’s what you delight in

•choose what you want to be

…no matter who you are.

freedom to choose is not “freedom to go from the old path to the new path or else you don’t value choice”. it is freedom to go whichever way you are called by your own heart to go, regardless of which way that is or if there even is a path already.

you’re not a bad feminist because you like your hair long. it’s not your job to uphold an idea of what a feminist looks like. there is no such look.

there are two major things that have both angered and saddened me since announcing my pregnancy with my son back in 2020:

1. the assumption that I have given up on any and all career goals I have set for myself (namely music and birthwork) by reproducing, and that by keeping a garden and mainly staying home with my son I have let the patriarchy sort of “win me over”.

2. the amount of tradwives and tradfems who have reblogged and reposted my content (outfits, observations on parenthood, photos of my home and gardens, the list goes on) to perpetuate their own agenda, often using me as a “positive” example of what a woman’s “rightful place” is.

these are both wrong.

if you believe I am an example of a failed feminist simply for marrying, having a child and keeping a goddang garden, you need to sort out why you feel that way. I would like to know: do you feel the same way about your ancestors?

if you believe that women belong at home, having babies and sweeping the floor of dirt from their husband’s boots, the end, then I do not know why you think my corner of the internet is a space for you.

I posted this same rant to my ig story and have been blown away by the positive response. why, if so many people agree, does it feel like we as a culture are handing traditional/simple-living off to the sorts of people romanticizing a Gilead sort of world when you can make bread and move mountains and fight for human rights at the same damn time?

Any views about Chris Evans wedding to Alba? Apparently he was in her IG DMs when she was only 21 and they started going out by 22, and now at 24/25, they're married. On one hand I think they might make it for a long time coz she's so young so Chris and his family might be able to groom her according to their living. But on the other hand, when she grows up a bit more or say goes into her 30s, she might want to breakoff. Almost like Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner situation, except that the age gap with Chris/Alba is huge. What do you think? I definitely don't think the marriage will last forever (coz Hollywood), but I also think it'll last long enough to have a couple of kids for sure.

A man in his 40s marrying a woman in her 20s? I'm shocked shocked! It always reminds me of those 40 years old college faculty dudes who dresses like the 28-year olds in catalogs (real 28-year olds don’t have the money for that wardrobe) and he has lots and lots of `important intellectual conversations with 18 - 25 year old girls because he’s a “feminist”. So why don’t these guys have those conversations with his actual colleagues, the 40 year old female faculty members? Remember kids, most self-proclaimed male feminists are actually pick-up artists.

Their marriage could last a long time and 27 years later pull a Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee, who have a 13 years age difference.

You're not planning to be female separatist so what is actually the point in what you're saying? I get that you like bootlicking for white women but atleast don't be a hypocrite.

I will always, always stand up for the smart, sound choices of educated, feminist women from societies with better markers for women's rights than my own, white or no. If I could become a Western woman with career prospects, female separatism would be the obvious, easiest choice for me. I already don't associate with any males apart from my father, and very rarely uncles or male cousins. This is how it is for many women from conservative Indian middle class households, elder daughters especially ig. It's why when we do get married, it's most almost always an arranged marriage which is coercive by nature. And I'd love to emigrate to a Western country and be separatist as far as possible in that society. I simply wouldn't be dating or planning to marry. The best years of my life until now were when I lived in a women's hostel in uni and only had female friends. The only males we saw regularly were the cooks and the occasional male classmate I'd bother speaking to.

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

well MY special little noble is actually the most inherently just and pure of heart and when they win the throne there will be a thousand years of peace. Wdym inherent violence of feudalism that's not real. And while there has been a downtrend in this belief throughout the last five years it HAS influenced a lot of other discource subtly... most people have realized that the way to start fixing westeros's problems is not thru a nice feudal monarch, but they dont understand that abandoning this framework for character/plot analysis also means abandoning a lot of other framework. In the arya v sansa wars people still use feudal patriarchal definitions of femininity to decide who is the Best Sexy Feminist (preteen girl). In debates about morality for certain actions people excuse things because it aligns with the feudal code of ethics- a deeply flawed and violent code. See: ned HAD to take theon hostage because well we live in a society. Like i think it's important not to hold characters to the same moral standards that we hold people in modern times to, because their circumstances are so wildly different, but we dont have to adhere to THEIR feudal values when analyzing them because its only a detriment to their characters. They live in a society but WE do not... cmon guys...

no one fucking draws these characters ugly enough. Asoiaf fandom has a plague of sameface ig model syndrome and it sucks cause george puts so much distinct personality even in minor characters and then people are like hmmmmm what if they had the same button nose and good chin that everyone else has. Brienne is ugly let her be ugly!!! Arya and jon have long plain faces u dont have to draw the teen/preteen kids as super defined and striking! Let the kids look like kids. I don't care how beautiful dany is let her be a 15 yr old. Also related to this is people making jaime nice/acting like asos was a redemption arc or that he didnt commit some uniquely horrific acts in agot/acok. His actions thru out the last two books are not the acts of a changed man they are the acts of a man who realized he can make choices based on empathy and reason not instinct. cersei is not necessarily my fave but shes a character whose sexuality i often think of. In canon the only time she's had sex with a woman she's topped and every time she fucks a dude she's disassociating so hard shes on another planet. Even when fucking jaime shes like imagining herself in his body fucking him in her body. In the bulldyke cersei universe he's stone. The pants stay on during sex and so does the shirt and probably also the shoes. Cis gay guy cersei universe he already thinks being gay is emasculating enough so obviously he's not going to let anyone penetrate him. White gays being the weakest link and white gays holding so strongly onto being queer as a getaway from so much bullshit also comes down to the fact that this is the first time they’ve ever been Othered. And it’s the first time they’ve ever had proper community and solidarity.

Especially being a white American. There is no culture in being white besides that you are In. That’s why white American people have no culture, the entire thing is built up of Not being the Other. Now often Christianity/Catholicism can play a role in this, but not being super into either of them is often forgivable/flexible with because you’re still automatically In. And you can always learn to be Better at being In through church if that’s called for.

In fact, being the Better Ones of the In is what drives a lot of white parenting and raising. The nuclear family, playing your role in the family, getting a Good Job, is all about being Better In.

Being queer on the other hand, has no room in being In. And is the first time white gays, especially cis men, have at being even at risk at being Out. It’s startling, because a lot can be forgiven if youre In, because it can be played into the role of being a lesson or hardship to overcome to be Better In. But being queer isn’t that, unless you deny that sin and fix yourself.

And even then, there isn’t community in being In. You’re just In. Not much is actually done about that, especially if church or active HOA isn’t apart of your suburbia anymore. No one treats you with exceptional fondness or friendship just because you’re in, you’re just not the Other. The closest thing to a community you’ll get is your family. The nuclear family. They will be the only one’s who ever truly understand you, that’s why your friends/dates are wrong about them and you, they will always know you better. You can only experience true closestness with family. That’s why family being Estranged is such a big deal, they’ll never be able to replace family. And why you only ever get closeness to a family when you’re married in. There is no other way to form closeness.

And that closeness might not be a whole lot. Especially if you’re the aforementioned queer.

That’s why the vibrant community of being queer looks like paradise. Firsthand I can tell you it’s the first time I felt solidarity with other people.* It’s the first time I would meet people and just click right off the bat. It’s the first time I felt unconditional familial love. So when it’s the first time you’ve felt some real solidarity and love for your queerness, especially right after you’re Out for the first time, ig it does something to you.

That’s why white gay guys cannot fathom being in the wrong. They’re in the Out! We’re all in the Out, thus we’re all the same really. That’s why white queers are most prone to gatekeeping bullshit, there’s still that programmed look for who’s In and Out. And they’re on the lookout for that Out because now they really feel a good community for the first time they’re not gonna let it being ruined, hence why they’re so nasty about it.

But a binary of Out or In doesn’t work in being queer, because it’s so fluid and flexible and means so much. Out and In also isn’t intersectional at all, which is why you get your white feminists incapable of wrapping their head around the idea that being a woman of color adds another nuance to things. There’s no nuance, you’re just In or Out. Everything’s In or Out. And the Out will always be wrong and harmful to you. But white guys are simultaneously Out but also In with the Good Out that truly gets it. So they cling on being In again, and nothing they can do ever throw them Out because they’re already Out. That’s why your white gays can be so exceptional bold with no fat, no femmes, and no asains in their bios. They’re already Out, there isn’t anything beyond Out. (Until there is and it’s usually being trans/bi/aro/ace/whatever exclusionary bullshit is about being gay in the Wrong Way)

*This is the first solitary I felt. Some white people have working class solidarity or even southern solidarity of “damn yankees think us all as stupid when we’re not.” But even then, working class solidarity is more based about what you do vs what you inherently are, so it might feel a bit different.

"FLEABAG" SEEN FROMA FEMINIST PERSPECTIVE

“I think you know how to love better than any of us. That’s why you find it all so painful.” Fleabag (2016).

Feminism is a matter that has concerned women through different periods of time; from literature to cinema, manifestations of sufragists ideas persevered in our culture and created an impact in society’s imaginary of womanhood. Simone de Beauvoir’s feminism on The Second Sex (1949) established the concept of being a woman from a stand of freedom and individuality, nourished by an existentialist point of view; nowadays we have other exhibitors of feminism that portray this same basis on a contrasting format and light.

Fleabag —a TV series from 2016 based on a monolog written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge three years prior to its adaptation to the screens—, is for one, a piece that reflects the experience of living as a woman in the social context that ambushes us daily.

Raw, ugly and uncomfortable, the protagonist, Fleabag, lets us take a look into her everyday life and struggles, where she constantly talks to the camera, being aware of her surroundings, uses irony as a way to reflect her own emotions and copes with her sadness by sleeping around with anyone willing to give her a fuck. Not necessarily a good one, tragically.

The importance of having a narrative that not only doesn’t romanticizes the emotional chaos that their female characters are put under, but also acknowledges the disastrous and difficult part of going through it, demonstrates how women writing about their own can actually bring a new—and necessary— perspective to fully understand certain stories. (page 84, Tyson L., 2015.)

Traditional gender roles also play an important part on Fleabags experiences with other men, in contrast with Claire, her sister, who’s a married woman that follows the expectations set by a misogynistic society, Fleabag doesn’t care about the rules at all, and not because she considers herself a good feminist, but because she is not willing to let herself die in order to comply to anyone elses desire. And so she becomes the “bad woman”, the “bad feminist”, the “bad girlfriend” and the “bad daughter”. The concept of a patriarchal woman is not one she fits in. At all. (page 85, Tyson L., 2015.)

A constant along the story is the way Fleabag repeatedly sexualizes herself in order to feel validated and loved by those around her, but, whenever she looks into the camera, in an attempt to express her darkest thoughts, we not only see the suffering of a woman in need of some kind of erotic relief, but also one that’s absolutely so done with everyone else that doesn’t care what anyone might think. Suddenly, the notion and perception of those said “good girls” and “bad girls” gets demolished. Fleabag brokes the conceptualization that enforces men to think that: “good women are supposed to find sex frigtening or disgusting”. (page 90, Tyson L., 2015.)

In a society, where both “good” and “bad women” get objectified, called sluts, and punished by the judgment of the public eye, how can anyone actually expect us to be kind? To comply? To sit still while we get kicked under the table? To shut up?

To have any shame?

When it’s so easy to look into the camera and state how little we really care.

I know that people hate when the author is on online platforms and begs for attention to themselves, and I know authors cannot interact with anyone lest some people decide to ruin their lives with a smear campaign or something.

But I kinda want to get to know the author before I read their work. I don't want to buy book anymore without knowing the vibe of the author. (Para socially just give me some info that you want to share about yourself author.)

I know that there's this push by publishing houses for every author to be a minor or more celebrity and have a following or whatever but I'm just asking for a single html page with all the authors inf- wait don't they already have that?

Ok shift direction, if you're recc'ing a book to me, please include the author's profile too.

Because think about it. I get to know more BIPoC/SWANA/SEA people, they get a new reader if I like them.

Because I want to see if we vibe together. There's some people who I can't stand (nothing on them it's just self-preservation after experience in a unit, and also personality-wise they want different things than someone I vibe with).

I had a good group on Twitter of artists(writing,comics,drawings) that I really chimed with. And I miss it soo much.

I don't have my trusted sources anymore. I want to have circles for Mystery/Suspense, LGBT romance, Horror, Scifi/Fantasy, and other stuff.

I want people I trust again. That I trust their taste.

Time economy, I don't want to invest in things that are useless to me like example het romance that is status quo, patriarchal and the woman gives up in the end and marries the guy, or feminist retelling that's a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a mediocre story.

If someone has time to sort thru the clutter for me, thanks.

I used to go on deep dives on manga+anime sites ,their system really doesn't allow for multiple genre picking so I just clicked on one genre and scrolled for days checking whatever caught my eye on the way to the last page.

That's why I'm so good at parsing what a book is about from the cover and the synopsis.

I found a lot of stuff I liked like that. I loved doing that work and I need to do that work to find the stories I like (because i don't want to laze and become dull in the brain) however nowadays everything is sooo cluttered.

Goodreads lists and storygraph genres and bookshop.org and articles that maybe fibbing because they were paid to say it, and youtube reviewers that I genuinely try to hear and it's just a humming buzzing FM noise by the end.

I think I'm going to complete my series of books and not buy anymore and get by with those. I'm tired.

I'll pirate the rest and send 20€ to their Kofi/venmo ig or get an e-reader.

Wholeheartedly believe that Mochi is the only one out of all of Bonten that’s married

Takeomi is the one who gets broken up with very fuckin fast

Sanzu has a son somewhere cos he doesn’t believe in contraception

Kakucho can’t keep an s/o because he brings up Izana (rip bby)

Ran and Rindou still live together, refuse to get separated apartments even if they’re in a relationship, straight up break up wi anyone who suggests it

Koko calls himself a “feminist” but then says he’s s/o should be in the kitchen, this is also why he’s single

Kakucho has cats; Izana and believe it or not Shion are their names

Sanzu isn’t allowed pets, he keeps pills as his pet instead

Koko has hairless cats because “it doesn’t get gross fur on my clothes so it’s fine” and doesn’t let anyone near them (calls one inupi ofc)

Sanzu still has his first bike in his house

Mikey falls asleep at the office more than his apartment and has to be taken home

Sanzu once wiped blood on Kokos new jacket and got himself shot in the process

Koko takes over 2 hours to get ready each morning with his meticulous skin routine, eyeliner, makeup and long fuckin hair care routine.

Koko, Ran and Kaku smell amazing! Like so good you could happily smell em all day (tho that’s a tad weird)

Takeomi stinks and I mean stinks of smoke

Rindou has an unhealthy obsession with oranges, always has on in his car, office and bag, boy whips it out at very unconventional times to munch on one. Throws the peel at people too.

Sanzu n rin once fell asleep on a couch together and that was the picture for Bonten Christmas cards that year, drool n all

Mochi once made the mistake of bringing his wife into the office, never again will he fall for “we wanna meet the angel that’s put up with you” Takeomi and ran tried to steal her, Sanzu showed her the basement, Rindou gave her an orange like a weirdo, Mikey and Kaku told her she should find someone better and koko beinh the angel he is handed her a wad of cash and asked if she wanted help with the divorce papers

Mikey likes to fall asleep to the sound of whales

Also really loves Kakuchos cats

Rans favourite animals are goats, he’s bought 4 of them but had to keep them on a farm after the landlord got a noise complaint from their neighbours

Takeomi only drinks scotch or red wine

Sanzu has never had a really relationship, can’t hold one down for the life in him

Contrary to popular belief Ran and Rindou have never slept with the same person once

Ran and rin do however share a bed if one of them has had a particularly bad day they find it comforting to know that the other is safe

Rindou gets panic attacks if he can’t reach Ran for a few hours, he once got one after Ran had been gone a long time on a mission with Sanzu and the phone kept ringing out, cried a lot when they got home that night and made Ran make him dinner and several cups of tea.

On that note, Rindou, Mochi, Koko and Kaku are all tea drinkers while Ran, Sanzu, Mikey and Takeomi are coffee drinkers.

Koko has a tea room in his house, stores premium tea leaves and very expensive tea sets in there

Sanzu almost broke down when Mikey broke his arm once, he fell out of bed.

The show did a disservice to the Sharmas by not adequately explaining that women didn’t really have good options for supporting themselves other than marriage. So fans who don’t like Edwina think she’s awful for caring about Anthony’s title and house and fans who don’t like Kate vilify her for trying to marry Edwina off.

I agree in that the Sharmas sisters needed more development in their motivations (I thought that would be S3 because Kate and Edwina finally see each other as the people they actually are instead of idealized versions and that is a conversation that works better without the added baggage but CC’s most recent IG post put the last nail in that coffin). I really wanted a Sheffield dinner follow up with Mary and both daughters, a longer post accident conversation (where if they knew CC was out for a S3 they should’ve explicitly elaborated on their motivations here). A Mary Edwina conversation at the wedding. However I disagree that its all the show.

I actually think the show very deliberately goes out of its way to not do the Team Edwina vs Team Kate thing. The whole thing is spun as a tragedy on all 3 sides. Kate is stuffing away her feelings unable to let herself feel, Anthony is succumbing to society’s expectations, and Edwina is blindsided by the truth of what the world looks like. You aren’t meant to compare Anthony x Kate with Anthony x Edwina there are several examples of media where the narrative does want you do that this season looks different from those.

The fandom chose to pit Kate against Edwina largely. Which has progressed to Simone vs Charithra which is actually despicable.

This show is filled with at times pretty shallow feminist dialogue. But dialogue nonetheless. Bridgerton does actively engage with the roles of women in regency society (even though racial disparities don’t exist so the gendered discrimination and homophobia still don’t make sense because those things are tied together).

The pressures that effect Eloise and Penelope and Daphne effect Kate and Edwina but people seem to only allow the “she’s a woman in society” argument to the white women on the show. It doesn’t matter that Edwina says she needs Anthony to propose because if he doesn’t it will reflect poorly on her character. Nor does it matter that Kate says if she could marry to save her family she would without argument.

We simply hold WOC to a different standard. I’m supposed to grant grace to Daphne’s actions in S1 but when Edwina is in the same situation we forget the insight we had into what it is to be perfect. (And Edwina doesn’t even use her naivety to justify SA) I’m supposed to forgive Anthony for any mistakes he makes with his siblings because Trauma™️ but when Kate talks about stepping up after the death of her father we can’t draw a parallel?

Both Edwina and Kate rain compliments on each other but its easier to vilify one over the other so people will ignore whole parts of the season.

The writing left a lot to be desired but for me so did the fandom.

Is the Carole balloon picture new? I immediately thought of the IG influencers when I saw the image. Lol. Because of the balloons and styling. And I agree with the other point about being a good mother putting her children first but then you’ll have the hardcore feminists saying mothers should look after their own happiness too. She is a very ambitious woman who instilled ambition in her first born. K knew what she wanted & went for it. Pippa is doing what she would’ve done anyway.

Cont- Pippa marrying good and living her housewife country/sports lifestyle with charity work here and there. James has had his difficulties and troubles but he has a good support system so hopefully he’ll remain stable/functional with the family support and new marriage. And the Middleton have a huge hand in raising the future British King & his siblings so I will wager the Cambridge kids might turn out different than the older generations. A good different I mean! Not the usual rivalry.

Never seen anyone so untalented despite professional training and so unlikable that the few thousand people who follow her only do so because she is listed as someone's wife. Feminist my ass!!! We know also as a narcissist, this must sting her so bad knowing that hundreds of thousands of people know that she is a grifter. A failure on the world stage. Courted attention like there was no tomorrow and now that attention is helping to expose her lack of business sense even with a team she pays. Also, how you have a husband who is supposedly happy to be married to you but he stayed flirting with his costar for years and when he couldn't anymore he just started looking super-depressed? Husband vaping in plane, dancing w/u at your wedding like you stink, he overused his sm to promote your lame ass then quits sm and looks depressed af. Naaah this woman is a Failure all around no matter what lies they be selling. We still ain't buying. Stop trying. TQ told her that she can be a non working royal but this brat refused her offer and wants to start running apparently. But now it’s all The Palace’s fault?

Let’s look at is this way.

A 36 year old woman, who had a C-List career in Hollywood, was a main character on a TV series that ran for years, was previously married, ran in the upper echelons of Toronto society, grew up in the Hollywood culture, and who claims to a strong feminist is crying about have to delete her social media accounts because they gave her a voice?

This grown woman, not a YOUNG woman, but a GROWN woman, of her own mental capacities and by her own choice got into a relationship with a raking member of the BRF.

She continued this relationship, knowing that if it went towards marriage she would have to give up certain aspects of her life. Harry told us he told her that and she agreed he did!

So she was warned in ADVANCE. She was also given the choice, by THE QUEEN, to be a private citizen and continue her acting career and Harry would be a member of the BRF but no longer a working Royal. Meghan DECLINED this option.

Again, Meghan CHOSE to marry Harry and to become a working royal. I don’t recall anyone walking behind her with a gun to her head.

Life is about choices. You either make them and deal with the consequences. You do not however, blame YOUR CHOICES on others because YOU couldn’t hack the job you were given and were warned about multiple times from multiple different people.

If 100 people tell me that if I put my hand over an open flame I am going to get burned and I ignore them anyways and do it...who is to blame? The flame? The match that lit the flame? The person who created the match? The 100 people who warned me? Or myself?
