It has been A Week.

It felt like the media showed up for every hearing I had this week. One of my most difficult clients damn near blew up his plea and we still had to reschedule a bunch of shit. (And I had to get help un-fucking it, which was freely given by one of my favorite humans but they have enough on their plate and I hate having to drag them in.) A sweet baby of a client got a sentence that he did not deserve even if it was technically within the range of the plea. I just...it's been a lot.

I don't know if this orange rhubarb mocktail I've made can fix it, but by God it's going to have to give it the old college try. It's getting an assist from some dispensary chocolate, so I'm cautiously optimistic

• to make the next batch of oath gin, the oats are going to come from valtteri's family farm in finland. paul goes "you have a farm?!" and apparently valtteri owns a plot in finland where he's growing the oats, which ofc only yields one harvest a year. and the apples are coming from adelaide hills.

• they recommend fevertree tonic to make a g&t with as schweppes is "too sweet."

• the gin is so pure that upon contact with water it becomes "hazy."

• paul calls drive to survive "that netflix show" where valtteri "plays that guy who drives in circles" and calls it "great acting."

• paul calls valtteri "an athlete, kind of." slkjdfslkdjf

• tiffany describes the decision to do the BWR "stupid" but she "gets egged on" and wants to compete against the top dogs ;; valtteri also says she's just too stubborn to quit.

• valtteri says he's never seen tiffany that destroyed after a race and she agrees.

• during the BWR valtteri helped a rider named max who fucked his tires on a bunny hop, literally flagged down another rider to get extra co2 cannisters and helped this random dude fix his tires ;;

• we've all been wondering what it is about paul that brings out the chaos and they actually discuss it! valtteri says it's "hard to beat ripke" and that it's nice they can just be themselves around him. tiffany says he brings out their real personalities.

• paul asks what they like about having their pictures/video taken and what's a "no go." vb says no gos are if someone has too strict a directing style to where valtteri doesn't feel comfortable, when things are over-staged/don't feel natural. he prefers to work with two types of photographers: 1) people like paul who actively create the cool moments through a very creative lens or 2) people who are more quiet/blend in but they're getting those candid moments.

• paul addresses vb's "finnish mentality" that makes him very direct & to the point but still "one of the funniest guys i've ever met."

• every week (i'm sure that's paul exaggerating but maybe not!) valtteri sends paul photographs for feedback as he tries to become a better photographer ;;

• valtteri says he's already got a world trip planned out for them for when he retires from formula 1.

I invented a great non-alcoholic cocktail last night on the fly and I think y’all should know about it. I made it in a 3-person batch by kind of eyeballing things so these measurements are not super precise, unfortunately. Also it needs a name!

Ingredients

3 parts sugarcane limeade; I think it was around 2 cups (I buy this from the farmer’s market, you can probably make your own or try a storebought limeade)

2 parts ginger beer (I used a whole small bottle of Fevertree)

1/2 tablespoon of rosewater

1/2 tablespoon of Sauvignon blanc white wine vinegar (this has to be a vinegar with flavor- try a champagne vinegar, or a smaller amount of balsamic if you don’t have a good white wine vinegar.)

1 shake of salt

1 sprig of rosemary, crushed in your hand

A light sprinkle of nutmeg (like 1-2 zips of fresh nutmeg on a microplane per person)

Assembly:

Combine liquid ingredients in a big cocktail shaker or medium pitcher. Stir.

Add salt.

Stir with crushed rosemary sprig and leave sprig in.

Sprinkle nutmeg.

Carefully pour (using cocktail strainer if it helps) into 3 glasses. Ice and cocktail cherry is optional.
