Seeing a lot of post and comments, and so many angry fights in youtube comments in particular, about the cloud/tifa/aerith love triangle bullshit and like...
Everyone knows I clearly don't have a dog in that particular race but I honestly believe that Cloud is way too traumatized and dealing with that to have even a shadow of a healthy relationship with anyone right now and there is no possible way of getting to that point until everything is finished in the last game and he remembers who he really is.
Like he's so HURT. He is DAMAGED.
Zack isn't just confused by Biggs calling Cloud a badass, it's the attitude Biggs describes that is so very different than the Cloud he is intimately familiar with. Cloud's personality right now is an amalgamation of Zack and what he thinks a cool mature SOLDIER should be with a thin layer of 'jaded mercenary in a 90s tv show' slapped on for good measure.
Even if other characters find him attractive personality-wise as he is, and not just his good looks, I think that would end up being a big problem after he gets his memory back because that would end with him being a different person than they fell for. I really hope that there is a significant change in Cloud's body language and general mannerisms and maybe even personality.
This is not the sweet and shy Cloud Strife in Crisis Core, this is a man broken by torture and loss and grief who can't face any of that and add in the Mako poisoning + traumatic amnesia and he's practically unrecognizable.
I want Cloud to be happy, I don't really care if he ends up with any of the characters 'canonically' - I just want him to be happy and whole and to MAKE IT. I want to see him really openly smile.
Cloud smiles a lot more in Rebirth, but they're usually small tucked away things. He never looks someone in the eye and smiles.... unless he's possessed. And then he's smirking and smiling all over the place. He even smiles WITH TEETH in the Gongaga Reactor when he's slaughtering troopers using Sephiroth's fighting style. He looks so happy and confident and it looks SO alien.
Even when he was messing up his memories with Zack's in the opening that smile didn't look like his. It reminded me of modded games where someone else's body is overlaid with another characters and the expressions just don't quite match up...
I want to see him at ease and happy and if he ends up with someone and is happy then I'll be happy for him. I just.... don't see it happening in the next game unless there's an epilogue and it's been a bit.

I ask this as a Clerith fan myself - why are so many people up in arms about Tifa "lying" in her GS date? I'm not even sure what people are referring to when they say that. If it's when she denied talking to Aerith about Zack... Aerith literally lied about the EXACT same thing to Cloud and no one calls her out about it.
Obviously the context of Cloud bringing up the issue in the first place is quite different with both girls - with Aerith he's wanting to know where they stand and if he can pursue her or if he should give up. While with Tifa he's still focused on Aerith instead of the girl he's with, which makes this date and his extreme (frankly OOC) actions come across as a rebound because he feels like he has no chance with the girl he's really interested in. But that said, I interpret the lie itself as the same from both girls - they know Cloud's memory is unreliable and digging too much into the topic of Zack might make him MORE unstable, so they dodge the issue. Also maybe a secondary reason of lying to keep the mood light/romantic, instead of bogging it down with something heavy.
If it's in response to what she says after Cloud wonders about Aerith still having feelings for Zack... that's up to interpretation, I guess. PERSONALLY, I would take her responding "It's more complicated than that" as dodging the question at worst or even a soft, implied disagreement with Cloud at best. It would be incredibly easy and simple to just say, "Yes, she still likes him." That's NOT what Tifa says, even though to an extent it might be true (Aerith makes it obvious that she's fallen for Cloud by the end of the game, but she MIGHT still love Zack too. You can love more than one person at a time. It's just unclear if that's the case for her or not).
We know from the scene on the ship heading towards Costa del Sol that Tifa and Aerith wanted to talk about love and boys, but it was postponed. But it's also clear they're spending a LOT of time together trying to hash out what's going on with Cloud and generally opening up to each other as friends off-screen, so I think it's safe to say they DID have this conversation eventually. I believe by the chapter 12 date, both girls are fully aware that they EACH like Cloud romantically, but for the most part they care enough about each other as friends to put aside rivalry/jealousy.
Tifa's response of "It's more complicated than that" just feels like the honest truth to me. Does Aerith still have feelings for Zack? Yeah, maybe. But she also undeniably has feelings for Cloud. And Tifa, on a date with the man she ALSO loves, doesn't want to lie but also can't bring herself to say that whole truth (also it's not really her truth to say? Confessing for someone else is messed up in its own right NGL) when doing so would almost certainly kill her own chances with Cloud.
I honestly feel sorry for her in her date. I read the situation as her trying to be as honest as she can without quite literally triggering Cloud or spilling Aerith's secrets, while Cloud, AT BEST is acting out a role with her and being the suave hero who he thinks she wants (which is arguably true, but let's not get into whether Tifa wants the "real" Cloud here) instead of his true awkward self (thus no actual progress in their relationship is made, since everything was just an act on his part). And AT WORST is outright using her as a rebound.
Seriously, what are you all mad at HER for?

FF7 shippers: "Cloud and Tifa were made for each other!"
"NO! Cloud and Aerith make more sense!"
*continues loudly ruining the entire Fandom since 1997*
Square Enix: OK. Listen up, you little shits. You couldn't behave. So we're just going unhinged, and you're going to like it.

It bothered me that Aerith is clearly coded as Rosa because I felt bad about Tifa getting shelved in the Loveless sequence unless if her date but it’s the symbolism and foreshadowing that wins I think m.
Anyway Aerith is Rosa because Rosa stays behind. Rosa stays behind in as the city collapses around her and wishes to see Alphreid again. She stays behind to pray or to stay in another world or to truly be dead depending on your interpretation. And Alphreid he does not stay - Alphreid moves forward to the next act of the play.
Tifa is not Rosa because Tifa moves forward with Cloud. Tifa is in the next act and in the secret unwritten fifth act. Tifa in the story deliberately never leaves Cloud.

Post canon where Cloud trips into semi-adopting nearly every orphan he comes across. It’s an accident really. Denzel came first and then after everything with Geostigma there were so many recently healed kids still left with no one. Kids that had nightmares of Kadaj and the control he had over them. Kids that no one could understand quite like Cloud could. It wasn’t until Tifa caught him sleeping on the floor after giving up his bed for the third time that week that it was decided he should move somewhere with enough space for all the kids. And from there it’s all over for him like every other day there’s a new kid showing up that needs a place to stay and he’s not going to be the one to turn them away.
And the kids all adore him. He’s their awkward dad/older brother/hero and all of them just really want him to be happy.
So they come up with a plan.
Clearly someone as cool as cloud deserves to have a partner that’s just as cool and they are going to be the ones to play matchmaker and make sure Cloud gets taken care of like he deserves.
The only problem? None of the kids actually agree who exactly Cloud should be with so there’s some trying to get him with Rufus Shinra (“He’s rich!”) while others are trying to get him with Vincent (“They even brood the same!”) while others are dead set on Tifa (“They already act like husband and wife!”) and it all becomes the most complicated parent trap of all time.
None of them asked Cloud who he would be interested in as a partner. Cloud quite honestly can’t figure out how the kids keep making him run into Reno while out on deliveries or why a group of them keep trying to lock him and Cid in a closet together.

Now that Sefikura is being teased in rebirth do you want them to be endgame?
Endgame in canon? Lol, no.
Definitely not after everything Sephiroth has done to Cloud. They're fine in AU, but not in the actual story. Sephiroth is a doomed monster. He doesn't end up with anyone because he's already lost himself. He might have some pretty R-rated feelings for Cloud, but they're unrequited beyond the possibility of mutual physical attraction, nothing more than that.
If you wanted me to be 100% honest and genuine about endgame Cloud ships, I'd say Tifa makes the most sense on a narrative level. She and Cloud have the healthiest dynamic imo, and their relationship is built on mutual support and respect. Not that Clerith or Zakkura doesn't also have their perks, but Cloti just always seemed to fit the best with the story's overall message and themes. And after everything they've seen and everyone they've lost, it just makes the most sense for them to heal each other little by little over time, just as they always have.
But don't worry. Tifa is VERY supportive of her bisexual boyfriend.

"It's not the game. That's not what we're arguing about. It is all about an inherent thing we do of social sorting. The reason we socially sort is because we want to put ourselves into a group that gives us a sense of belonging, a sense of friendship, love, whatever you want to call it, and creating a sense of identity through which you can express yourself. These are very important things to people. [...] That is what people are really fighting over. It's masked under all these arguments over these merits about the game, but that's not actually what people are fighting about. They are fighting to defend their sense of identity and belonging from those who they believe are attacking that with their opinions about the game. [...] "What you can do is at least be aware of what's really going on inside of you when you get these strong feelings -- when you see these opposing views to what you believe. [...] Realize what's happening -- realize what's really happening. Take a step back from that. You have this cognizant higher thinking part of your brain right here behind your freaking forehead that you can use to go, 'Hold on a second, emotional part back there. This actually isn't all that serious.' [...] "Because it's going to happen. You're going to have a feeling that comes up. You're going to see somebody who says something and you're just going to feel annoyed. You're going to feel angry. You're going to feel all those feelings. You don't have a choice in that, by the way. That's just going to happen to you. That's the part we're saying you can't control about your human nature. But you can control -- being aware of where that's really coming from -- how you go about responding to that. [...] "We have to wrestle with this. We have to wrestle with how we respond to this. Because [...] we have tools at our disposal that put us into contact with people who, it feels like, are threatening us all the time when they're not. They're not. They're not threatening you. It feels like they are -- it really feels like it. Trust me, I know exactly what you're feeling. [...] I could not control myself. I literally couldn't for a while. If I saw somebody say something like that, I felt the need to validate my position, clarify, tell this guy or girl or whoever was saying it why they're wrong. It's in me, too. [...] "And, I feel like, just in the past couple weeks, I had a little bit of a breakthrough, where I was looking through some comments and I saw something, and I just kind of laughed at it instead of getting angry. I laughed at it because it was wrong; I didn't get angry because it was wrong. Like, my brain -- the prefrontal cortex finally broke through and convinced the amygdala that: 'You can laugh at that; it's okay. You're not threatened. Just laugh it off and walk away. You don't have to fight this person. You don't have to engage. You don't have to prove that they didn't understand what you really meant. You don't have to do that. It's just a video game.'"

I dream of the day when ship wars cease to exist
Genuinely, you can dislike a ship without dissing it or its shippers, and you can like a ship without dunking on ""opposing"" ships and their shippers. Grow the fuck up.
