Louis Vuitton Purses, Bags & Accessories
Outfitted with a leather or chain strap, the Pochette Accessoires is giant sufficient to suit a Zippy Wallet and other small necessities. While you'll have the ability to nonetheless store this bag on the Louis Vuitton website, this style is a extremely sought-after classic piece. Thus each bag you buy has an actual leather tag that has a quantity and their signature. Last summer time I purchased the Louis Vuitton speedy 30 in Damier ebene. According to the Hong Kong-based Apple Daily newspaper, the company was looking for compensation of HK$40,000 (around $US 5,000) and a public apology within the newspaper. The shopkeeper refused to pay, and Louis Vuitton demanded further damages as much as HK$150,000 in February 2013. The shop claimed to have sourced two such purses from Japan at round HK$120, which it retailed at HK$220. In the case of the opposite small store selling two handbags, they argued with Louis Vuitton that the designs had been different, and received LV's demand reduced to HK$5,000 (around US$640). The proprietor refused to pay and said they were able to face LV in court. In July 2012, Jacobs teamed up with Yayoi Kusama to create the "Infinitely Kusama" Collection, which features daring colors of dots over the vernis leather-based or the monogram canvas. Supursetyle.com is one other trusted designer bag rental firm that gives 10 percent for first time clients. Supursestyle.com has a proven track document of success with 5-star ratings on Facebook and on Google. https://skel.io/blog/post/get-the-best-louis-vuitton-replica-bags Another "home icon," the Capucines bag was named after the Rue des Capucines in Paris, which is where Louis Vuitton first opened his store in 1854. Crafted from full-grain Taurillon leather-based, crocodilian leather, or delicate lambskin, this bag is luxury at its best. The BB, PM, and mini Capucines are all well-liked among the fashion set. A brand’s artistic director also can steer its identity. Marc Jacobs, one of the architects of the collectable runway purse market, arrived at Louis Vuitton in 1997 and remodeled the storied baggage model into the blockbuster trend home it is at present. Twice a yr, Louis Vuitton releases a runway collection of purses. Known as present bags, these pieces are produced in extraordinarily limited portions and solely made obtainable to VIP clients in the largest Vuitton stores worldwide. wikipedia handbags Louis Vuitton 'Alize 1 Poche' travel bag crafted in timeless monogram canvas with real leather-based trim and handles. But these days, Louis Vuitton bags, wallets, and small equipment can really feel downright scarce. For instance, right now, two of the 4 sizes of Vuitton’s most famous bag, the Speedy, are bought out in monogram canvas, both in the conventional and bandouliere models. I can’t do not forget that occurring any other time in the past decade. An LVMH spokeswoman interviewed by New York Magazine stated that Louis Vuitton were pressured to take authorized motion when Plesner did not respond to their authentic request to take away the contested picture, nor to the next cease-and-desist order. In October 2008, Louis Vuitton declared that the company had dropped its lawsuit but have since reopened it together with a model new €205,000 declare due to a painting by the same artist. In May 2011, the court in The Hague present in favour of Plesner's right to freedom of expression. A reference information of previous and current Louis Vuitton handbag names. Think about purchasing these stunning baggage secondhand, or think about a rental choice, from one of many sources listed above. Ann's Fabulous Finds is a luxurious consignment shop that gets rave evaluations. The most common trunks of the era were spherical, which weren’t perfect for toting and storing. In 1858, Vuitton debuted his light-weight, handcrafted canvas trunks, which had been sturdy, rugged and outfitted with handy compartments. When Louis Vuitton died in 1892, control of the luxury house was handed onto his only son, Georges Vuitton. As we all know handbags have turn into an necessary accessory in the fashion world, and are often used as completion items for a woman’s wardrobe. They promote growth within the style business, and designers are including handbags in their collections extra usually to extend revenue. And as we know, when it involves style, ladies are always one step forward from one another. The manufacturer was using centuries old Japanese designs in its items, the identical ones that had initially impressed Louis Vuitton. The Sarah wallet design in particular resembles bag designs which were used for hundreds of years to include jyuzu (strings of beads utilized in funeral ceremonies - see Japamala#Japanese Buddhism). There has been touch upon Japanese social media concerning how the company administration seems to have forgotten the origins of Louis Vuitton's designs. The Shoso-in archive has a biwa lute with marquetry patterns to which some Louis Vuitton's designs bear a detailed resemblance. Like a classic black blazer or a tried-and-true camel trench, a designer bag is a wardrobe staple that's resistant to trade tendencies. I am starting to be turned off with LV and going for different luggage More just lately. It’s super handy to shop on-line and LV makes it troublesome. For instance, I was on a waiting listing for one 12 months and are available to find out that after calling the customer support, I was told I was by no means added to the record and that I can solely go to a store to be added to the ready list . So after I obtained the chance to, I marched to the shop to be added to the listing as a outcome of I really needed the bag so bad. Come to search out out, the bag was available within the store and had been there for quite some time. All trendy Louis Vuitton purses could have a two digit country code. Notice under that SD could indicate the bag got here from France or the USA . $150 is the common weekly rental for one of their LV handbags. By 2001, Stephen Sprouse, in collaboration with Marc Jacobs, designed a limited-edition line of Vuitton luggage that featured graffiti written over the monogram sample. Certain items, which featured the graffiti with out the Monogram Canvas background, have been solely out there on Louis Vuitton's V.I.P. customer listing. Jacobs additionally created the charm bracelet, the first-ever piece of jewelry from LV, throughout the identical 12 months. As evidenced by value alone, designer handbags are for all times.

Excerpt:
-------
At 4:53 PM, on Monday, January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake shocked Port-au-Prince. [...] This is particularly astounding considering that Haiti is recognized as the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with 70% of individuals surviving on less than $2 US per day [...].
The excitement of US officials concerning the financial opportunity in Haiti is best represented by a cable released in February 2010 from the US Ambassador in Haiti, which contains the exclamation, “THE GOLD RUSH IS ON!” referring to potential business opportunities available for the reconstruction of Port-au-Prince (USEP, 2010/2/1; Fresnillo, 2014/3/5). The US government was quick to recognize the financial significance of the natural disaster and used its political influence to impose control over the aid money destined for Haiti. Two institutions were established by the international community to oversee the management of relief and recovery funds: the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC), co-chaired by Bill Clinton and the Haitian Prime Minister, and the Haiti Reconstruction Fund (HRF). Almost none of the money donated to Haiti actually went directly into the country or to local businesses. Instead, funds were primarily funneled back into US infrastructure and private US corporations (Quigley & Ramanauskas, 2012/1/3). [...]
Simultaneously, Bill Clinton, US special envoy to Haiti, was busy advocating for the implementation of a neoliberal plan in Haiti published by Oxford University professor and economist Paul Collier. The details of the plan, drawn up in January 2009 and outlined in a paper titled “Haiti: From Natural Catastrophe to Economic Security,” stipulates that powerful international bodies must intervene militarily and occupy failed states to ensure economic reconstruction and development (Smith, 2010/2/8). Specifically, Collier and Clinton advocate for the investment in luxury tourism and the expansion of the garment industry, despite the fact that these projects contribute little to the social fabric of Haitian society and serve exclusively the needs of major businesses. Collier advises for the exploitation of the low labour wages by corporations in Haiti as a viable means to compete with China’s textile industry. Furthermore, Collier proposes extensive privatization of the country’s port and electrical systems (Smith, 2010/2/8). As a result, the plan functions to exacerbate the inequalities already experienced by the Haitian poor. [...]
[After the 2010 earthquake] [t]he US government initiated a military deployment in Haiti before any request was made by the Preval government, demonstrating US self-entitlement to usurp national decision making. According to a cable from Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, the US deployed 4,000 military personnel to arrive in Haiti by January 15, followed by an additional 6,000 two days later. [...] According to the Pentagon, at the height of its intervention, there were approximately 22,000 US military personnel in Haiti, with 7,000 present on the ground and the remaining forces mobilized in 58 aircraft and 15 nearby vessels. In addition, the Coast Guard was assisting in the interception of any potential refugees (Herz, 2011/6/15). [...]
Although the US donated an impressive $379 million immediately after the quake, the Associated Press reported in January 2010 that 33 cents of each dollar was reimbused back to the US military, and 42 cents of every dollar was invested into private and public US NGOs [...]. In August 2010, the US Congressional Research Office revealed that the $1.6 billion donated by the US for relief efforts followed a similar pattern of self-indulgence. For Example, some noteworthy recipients include the Department of Defense, which was reimbursed $655 million; the US Agency for International Development [...] received $350 million; and individual US states received grants of $220 million [...]. Reconstruction contracts followed a similar trend: of the 1,500 contracts worth over $267 million, only 20% were allocated to Haitian firms. The rest have been awarded to US firms that rely on US suppliers, yet exploit the low-wages of Haitian workers (Dupuy, 2011/1/7; Flaherty, 2011/1/13).

Tell us about your show/experience!! Hope you and your family had a wonderful time!!!
Tumblr media
Hi anon!
As luck would have it, I have a little time to write up my Love on Tour experience today. :) I've had a few questions about what I wore, so I included a picture of my shirt. (I also had the black hoodie with "Treat People With Kindness" in rainbow lettering, but shed it soon after Harry came on.)
I went to the show with my wife and daughter (My son and his wife would have enjoyed it too, but it didn't work out for them this time. She and her sister went to a 1D show before and her sister saw Harry in 2018.)
We got to the show with time to spare and did the requisite merch shopping. All I really wanted was the Love On Tour shirt with the rabbits on a red, checkered background. Of course, they were out of them in XXL. I'm a tad over 6' and 220 lbs (20 of which is excess fat I should lose) so I'm not a huge guy, but do have very wide shoulders. Anyway, one of those Gildan T's in XL would be too tight in the shoulders for sure and I hate when they're tight in the armpits. I had to settle for one with a giant picture of Harry on it -- again! (We checked at 3 merch booths too!)
The main demographic of the crowd seemed similar to 2018, but 3 years older. That said, my daughter and I both think there was a higher percentage of young men and 40+ people there this time around. Our seats were on the 200 level, about half way up. (A Ticketmaster mistake/glitch cost me 100 level seats way back when they were first available, but these were still great seats.) From our perspective, we were slightly to the right of the center stage. Okay, now on to the show:
Jenny Lewis has a very pretty voice and her sound was pleasant. All three of us felt she lacked stage presence and her performance was pleasant, but rather dull. None of us were familiar with her music beforehand. My daughter did say something like, "Only people who are high would have really gotten into her music/performance." A funny comment, given she wore a white outfit with marijuana leaves printed all over it! It's a little harsher than I would have said it, but I think fair. Most people remained seated throughout her set and I even "rested my eyes" for a couple of songs. I think her music qualifies as country? I'm just grateful her singing was lovely and absent the obnoxious, heavy twang so many country singers use. (Being unfamiliar with her music, I couldn't understand many of her lyrics, so if her music is meaningful to you, please ignore my opinion.)
We had about 15 minutes between Lewis' set and Harry (great chance to drain bladders.) We were back at our seats when a song came on the speakers and I asked my daughter, "What the hell is this song?" She said it was Brittney Spears and I immediately knew it must be the one (couldn't remember the name) Harry covered at Harryween. Sure enough, I was able to make out the word Toxic shortly, which reminded me of song name! (Sorry Harry, still not a Spears fan -- although I do commiserate with her in this conservatorship business.)
I don't think Harry's current band has a name, so for the sake of brevity, I will refer to them as the "Love band" going forward. As soon as the Love band appeared, the anticipation level went up about 300%. Soon enough, the "Harry box" was wheeled to the end of one runway, causing the crowd to erupt! He popped out of the center stage very close to 9:00 pm and the show was ON! Everyone was on their feet for most, if not all of Harry's set (which, I think, lasted about 100 minutes.)
I am so happy he has Carolina and Only Angel on the set list this tour! I wouldn't even care if they truly had the superficial "stunt meanings." Both of those songs just ROCK in live concert! It occurred to me that Carolina is the Sunflower of HS1. Set aside the lyrics -- both songs are highly inventive in sound and the mix (arrangement) of instruments. Both are stellar examples of Harry experimenting with sound and coloring very much outside the lines of "regular" music and genre conventions. Also, elated he has Sign of the Times and Kiwi from HS1, but it would be a bigger surprise if he didn't include those songs.
Okay, this is already getting long, so I'm not going to describe every song. Harry was absolutely electric! You know he's one of the greatest, most charismatic performers in modern music history, but forget how powerful and moving it is to experience first hand. The lighting, big screen videos, everything is first class and extremely well executed, but it's all icing on the cake. Harry doesn't need any gimmicks. He could easily hold the crowd hostage to his every note with only a guitar and a mic. He could do it, even without the guitar, honestly! Harry's voice is even better this tour than last (and I didn't think that was possible!) Many (if not all?) of his songs were a key, or two lower than the album versions. As a bass/baritone, I could easily sing along with Carolina, for example, while the studio version is too high for me. This has a huge advantage for strain on Harry's voice as he sings his heart out night after night. I loved hearing more of his incredibly rich baritone register. Don't get me wrong, he also hit some stellar high notes! He made it all sound effortless and he can transition from one register to another so smoothly it defies explanation. Harry's voice is utterly unique -- no one sounds like him and he doesn't sound like anyone else, not even from his classic rock roots. His voice has the rich, unique character of a Johnny Cash, or Top Petty combined with the skill of a top tier singer. (Cash and Petty were great and I love them, but they weren't great singers, really, especially Petty!)
Another thing about Harry's performance is the nuance. He never over-sings, or goes to far with runs/improvisations. He does improvise, quite a lot, in concert, but always with an ear to the natural flow and melody of the song. His voice is always well supported, full and rich -- whether he's singing softly, or belting in triple forte. Harry is putting on true live shows. He's not lip-syncing, or using live auto-tune to stay on pitch. The quality of music you get at a live Harry Styles concert is as good, or better than most artists' studio recordings -- and that is incredible!
And that brings us to the amazing and spectacular Love band! The arrangements for each song are just superlative! The band mirrors Harry's energy and professionalism as they follow his (sometimes unpredictable?) lead! Often, electric guitar solos are excessive in show-boating and excruciating to the ear -- even while showing great technical proficiency. Mitch's solos add, rather than detract from the songs. His solo on She was exquisite! The sound was, in many cases, very different from the album, but so rich, full, beautiful and satisfying. The A cappella harmonies at the beginning of Cherry were perfect and such a beautiful rendition.
This is getting realllllllllly long! I'll close out by saying Harry must have run/danced/skipped for miles! Doing all this WHILE maintaining a ridiculously high vocal performance is no small feat! When he took up a rainbow flag (toward the end of the show, when he must have been tired) the sort of skipped/sprinted/floated the full length of the stage. He seems to draw so much energy from performing live. My wife, daughter and I all enjoyed his concert immensely and we are so glad we went!

On May 25th 1624 the town of Dunfermline, with the exception of the abbey and a few buildings, burned to the ground accidently during a military muster.
You can only imagine the state of mind of the baillie’s son who, having misfired a musket into one of 17th century Dunfermline’s many thatched roofs, saw the entire town burn to a cinder over the course of four hours. Among the few buildings left standing was Abbot House. The records of many Scottish towns refer to this great fire but strangely it doesn’t seem to appear in Dunfermline’s own burgh records.
Most of the damage was done to the area to the north of the High Street where Bruce Street is today and Queen Anne Street, Cross Wynd, the upper New Row and the Maygate were all badly affected. The day was stormy and the houses to the south of the High Street appear to have been saved by a strong wind blowing the flames in the opposite direction.
The magistrates of Dunfermline sent petitions to every town and parish in Scotland for ‘public benevolence’ and received sizeable contributions from Edinburgh,  Aberdeen and Perth. It is likely every parish sent something. Prince Charles (later King Charles I) gave a substantial amount, inspired perhaps by the fact that Dunfermline was the town of his birth.
The fire started around noon and continued until four pm, a fierce storm of wind fanning it from the north-west. I found what amounts to a news report of the day from the Perth Chronicles.....
"Thair wes ane great fyre in Dunfermling, that brunt almaist the haill toun in four houris space. Thaireafter, upone thair supplecation, voluntar contribution wes grantit thame throchout the kingdom. Thair wes collectit (in Perth) above lxx. merkis." Mur. Chron.
The Aberdeen Records has the following minute on Dunfermline fire:-
"Anno,  1624 - Dunfermline, the town of, destroyed by accidental fire, 25th May, consumed 220 tenements, occupied by 287 families, their whole plenishing, with 500 bolls of grain in barns. The town, containing 700 communicants,  and 320 children under six years of age, said to be completely ruined.  Voluntary contribution for their relief, ordered by the head court of  Aberdeen, convened for the purpose; 1600 merks, collected by voluntary contribution as the town's benevolence, paid to the commissioner appointed  for receiving it, for which he granted a receipt."
It seems we Scots were known to be charitable almost 400 years ago as we are today. The pic is a sketch showing the extent of the fire.

Monday 2 July 1838
7
10 ½
fine but dull morning F63° at 8 am out A- and I at 8 ¼ to the pépinière départementale, and called at the pépinieristes’ house and took him with us – quick clever looking man he had laid out the pépinière and seemed very proud of it – said there were very few such – few are prettily, so beautifully situated – the Douze winding along at the foot of the garden – very pretty – could not well catch his nomenclature – soon found that he was gardener not botanist – asked for Mèrat little livre de botanique – he had lent it to someone – but declined selling it – said there was one published every year and referred to the great and best pépiniériste à Paris M. Ville Morin Andeliene, Quai de la Magisserie dit de la Férral, n. 30 enough – I have thus got the address of the best nurseryman – the mans’ place here worth not more than 1,400 fr. a year exclusive of house and fire wood, and a bit of ground (they wink at this) planted with vines that produce a barrique or more per annum – he and his garçon (a labourer aetatis 18) do all the work except for December to end of April when the department allows him 6 additional labourers does not know the quantity of ground he has in nursery garden – it is the property of the Department – gave me a sale catalogue of trees and shrubs, but said he had a great many not down in the catalogue – not having the catalogue till we came away, could not verifier anything and .:. learnt nothing except to know perfectly the beautiful bignonia catalpa (in flower – and with some pods also remaining of last year?) and that it is propagated by seed, and when quite young has more the appearance of a luxuriant shrub-growing plant than a fine large tree – on coming in saw the ortolans – from 150 to 220 maigre in the large darkish high narrow slip ‘volerie’ looking in the court (perhaps 6 or 7 yards long and 1 yard broad) taken off from a building that forms the back of the court, and perhaps 50 in little cages in a dark warm  ground floor large room where are empty barrels etc. etc. 3 weeks to a month in feeding – take about ¼ hour roasting at a good feu vif as for a common rôti – her brother puts down the ortolans when the potage est servi and they are ready to come in when we have done eating – that is for the last course – should be white when roasted, not red – she (the daughter) born at Eaux-Bonnes – and the mother from Oléron – goes every year to the baths of Biaritz [Biarritz] (pronounced Beeariz) very good for cutaneous complaints -  the king of Naples here 1 night – 60 people in his train – the house not large enough for all they received 3500 fr. and the other Inns were paid besides – asked the name of the proprietors of the great house at St. Sauveur ‘M. Sarrat, le maire de Luz’ – his house always let to English – not many people have passed this way aux eaux this year as yet – sat writing the above of today till 12 – having talked sometime to the demoiselle de la maison – off from Mont-de-Marsan (Hotel des Ambassadeurs, very good) at 12 40 – pass thro’ much of the little ville the smallest chef lieu of department in France – very nice little ville – fine road-avenue, the demoiselle said, all the way from here to Bayonne – beautiful sortie from the town thro’ gardens thro’ Spanish chesnut and oak and fir (left) and meadows and greed hedges and trees (right) down to the river Douze and soon pine-forests all the way to Campagne at 1 ½ (poste aux chevaux) and farmstead – our road thro’ an avenue of Platanus, poplar, catalpa, different species of [acer] etc. about Campagne a few fields corn and grass – the corn in large sheaves piled all in one pile – the pine forest again (good rubble road) with every now and then champs and picturesque farmstead to Tartas at 2 35 picturesque little ville – market day – town on the top, on the slope, and at the bottom of hill, and divided, by the Midouze river, into haute and basse ville – a calêche and pair passed us on our entering the town, and a calêche and pair set off just before us which we afterwards found it tiresome not to be allowed to pass – the people assembled here (Tartas) Pyrenees-like people – blue men with crimson sashes and women with crimson petticoats and ditto printed handkerchiefs round the head, and a few with large brimmed black beaver hats – narrow streets except the one main street – very picturesque town – the Post-house stable, an old church – nice cultivation all round the little ville – avenue, rubble road, as before – at a little distance from Tartas forest again and picturesque farmsteads and champs here and there as before – and wherever there is an opening (left) fine distance of cultivated and much wood line of hill – could have on much faster (the road so good) but for the calêche a head of us that we came up with at 3 ½, and then stopt a few minutes to let it get out of our way – at 3 50 picturesque little scattered bourg of Pontons [Pontonx], and waited ¼ hour to let the calêche get out of our way – walked ten minutes went into the little church – neat village church – and got into the carriage at the far end of the town – no regular forest this stage – fine distance (left) as before but much more seen – at 4 ½ distinct at several of the mountain forms but still too far off in misty distance to be of any importance to the view – about 5 meet scattered on the road above 20 priests – very fine drive from Pontons [Pontonx] and very good road – from Pontons  [Pontonx] to the poste at Dax at 5, and gallopt forwards and turned left to the city of Dax and alighted at the hotel St. Etienne Dax at 5 8 – settled all – to dinner at 7, and took a boy guide and A- and I sauntered out 5 35 – saw the bains de Bagnols   in passing and then to the [campagne] of M. De Borta to see his fine collection of fossils and minerals  found here – Madame de Borda just gone (and Mr. out also) sent for him – he was with his workmen cutting wood and desired them I might see whatever I liked – the tower observably locked up – ditto the minerals  .:. having taken a turn in the garden set off home again – fachée at our loss of time – In returning saw the source chaude  really very curious – and saw the plain modern cathedral – came in at 7 – dinner in an hour – then came to my room and till now 10 pm (A- in bed this ½ hour) wrote the last 9 lines of the last page and so far of this and found F66° in my bedroom – very fine day – [ga.] very abundant everywhere dans les lands some English gentleman at Mont-de-Marsan last winder for shooting – nothing has gone well since 1830 – taxes high – our hotel at M. de M. pays 210fr. per annum, and the taxes get higher and higher – our demoiselle said no Stilts (echassée in the patois [?]) except dans les gardens Lands at la Taste -12 lieues d’ici and very narrow bad roads must go on horseback – in light little carriages – ought to have gone to La Teste from Bordeaux – c'est pour une autre fois – at the baths this evening saw bains de bone, the 1st time – ordered the horses to be ordered here at 5 ¾ tomorrow morning – Dax a very nice little picturesque anciently fortified town –

Copper Acetate Structure
Copper Acetate, also referred to as cupric acetate, is the chemical compound with the formula Cu(OAc)2 where AcO− is acetate (CH3CO−2). The hydrated derivative, which contains one molecule of water for each Cu atom, is available commercially. Anhydrous Cu(OAc)2 is a dark green crystalline solid, whereas Cu2(OAc)4(H2O)2 is more bluish-green. Since ancient times, copper acetates of some form have been used as fungicides and green pigments. Today, copper acetates are used as reagents for the synthesis of various inorganic and organic compounds. Copper acetate, like all copper compounds, emits a blue-green glow in a flame. The mineral hoganite is a naturally occurring form of copper(II) acetate.
Copper acetate hydrate adopts the paddle wheel structure seen also for related Rh(II) and Cr(II) tetraacetates. One oxygen atom on each acetate is bound to one copper at 1.97 Å (197 pm). Completing the coordination sphere are two water ligands, with Cu–O distances of 2.20 Å (220 pm). The two five-coordinate copper atoms are separated by only 2.62 Å (262 pm), which is close to the Cu–Cu separation in metallic copper. The two copper centers interact resulting in a diminishing of the magnetic moment such that near 90 K, Cu2(OAc)4(H2O)2 is essentially diamagnetic due to cancellation of the two opposing spins. Cu2(OAc)4(H2O)2 was a critical step in the development of modern theories for antiferromagnetic coupling.
Wujiang Weishida Copper Technology Co.,Ltd. has 12,000 square meters of production base. By virtue of their sincere cooperation, reciprocity of the business philosophy for the industry users around the country to provide high-quality non-ferrous metal products.Weishida specializes in producing cuprous chloride, basic copper carbonate, copper acetate, copper oxide, copper sulfate. Our company has established a perfect quality assurance system, quality inspection and testing equipment, testing, testing and technology development strength, to ensure the stability of product quality, fully able to meet the pre-market after-sales service to provide users with the need.

How One Bahamian Town, Nearly Destroyed, Is Coping After Dorian
By Kirk Semple |Published Sept. 6, 2019 Updated 11:40 a.m. ET | New York Times | Posted September 6, 2019 |
Leer en español
TREASURE CAY, Bahamas — Since Hurricane Dorian plowed through Stafford Symonette’s house, and with it much of his community of Treasure Cay, he has stopped by from time to time to visit the ruins of his home.
What he hasn’t been able to bring himself to do, he said, is sift through the debris for his belongings.
“I am not ready,” he said softly, as he sat down on the toppled trunk of a palm tree.
Much like residents in other communities across the northern Bahamas, Mr. Symonette and his neighbors in Treasure Cay, on Great Abaco Island, were only just starting on Thursday to come to terms with the scale of their loss and to make sense of it all.
Evidence of that destruction was everywhere:the wasteland where a Haitian community once stood. A 45-foot shipping container mangled like a piece of aluminum foil. A Baptist church made of concrete blocks that now stood roofless, open to the heavens.
Some 95 percent of Treasure Cay’s homes were damaged or destroyed. The storm knocked out its utilities, leaving the community without power, water or communication. One resident was killed and others were injured, some seriously enough to need emergency evacuation.
“It’s going to be a long haul,” said Steve Pedican, 58, a longtime resident.
Since Hurricane Dorian struck the Bahamas on Sunday night as a Category 5 storm, at least 30 people have died and thousands have been left homeless. Officials fear the death toll could rise substantially once they have better knowledge of the extent of the damage on the ground.
[See Hurricane Dorian in Pictures]
Treasure Cay seemed to be facing the disaster with a resignation that some residents attributed to two things: a deep religiousness among the Bahamian population, and a longstanding familiarity with hurricanes.
The community is in some ways typical of many others in the Bahamas: an amalgam of native-born Bahamians, mostly absentee foreign homeowners, tourists and migrants from elsewhere in the Caribbean, mainly Haitians.
The settlement, laid out on a peninsula scalloped with beautiful white-sand beaches, was created in the mid-20th century as a resort for foreigners, mainly Americans, residents said.
More recently, Bahamians have bought into the resort. Others live on its outskirts.
Treasure Cay’s population ranges between several hundred and several thousand, depending on who is counting and who is being counted.
Stephanie Hield, 63, the chairwoman of the local governing council, said about 450 Bahamian residents were there. But the full population can swell to multiples of that during peak vacation season. And if Haitian immigrants, many of them undocumented, are also included, the count leaps further.
Since the storm, residents have been doing a nerve-racking accounting, surveying surrounding settlements for their relatives, friends and acquaintances.
Lacking contact with the outside world and working phone lines, people have had to revert to word of mouth to pass on what little is known. On Wednesday, while waiting for the arrival of emergency supplies at a small landing strip near Treasure Cay, Ms. Hield, and Bridgette Chase, 50, a customs officer, compared notes.
“Everybody’s accounted for in Man-O-War,” Ms. Chase said, referring to a nearby cay.
“Everybody’s accounted for in Grand Cay,” Ms. Hield added. “Everybody accounted for on Turtle Cay.”
Though Coast Guard helicopters evacuated some injured residents earlier this week, the first planes carrying medical teams, volunteers and emergency supplies like water, food and chain saws began arriving at the settlement’s landing strip on Wednesday.
Scores of Haitians had flocked to the airport after hearing a rumor that there were going to be evacuations.
“We were told to come to the airport to evacuate so we could find a better place to stay,” said Kalisa Lubin, 21. But most were unable to get out.
Mr. Symonette, an evangelical pastor, was also at the landing strip. He had arrived at 7 a.m., driven more by faith than solid information, to wait for a plane he hoped would be sent by an American evangelical group. He sat on an upturned paint bucket, in the lee of a building that had once been the airport’s fire station.
The hurricane had stripped the fire station of its roof, and turned its contents into a jumble of furniture, construction material and office equipment. Trees surrounding the airport, like forests across the island, were mostly stripped of their leaves and leaning hard toward the West, raked over by the wind.
Private jets arrived throughout the day, disgorging supplies and volunteers, but not the one Mr. Symonette was waiting for.
As dusk approached, he offered to drive a reporter around the settlement. Since the storm, he had not ventured into town, staying mostly at the home of friends where he and his family sought shelter after the hurricane.
At Mr. Symonette’s home, he described how he and his family had tried to weather the storm. As the house was pulled apart, he recalled, they fled to an S.U.V. parked outside. But then the house’s roof fell on the S.U.V. so they shifted to a bigger S.U.V., where they spent the next few hours.
“It’s a miracle we’re even talking,” he said.
Mr. Symonette, who was raised in Nassau and moved to Treasure Cay about 50 years ago, drove through the community slowly, mostly in silence, occasionally pointing out landmarks.
“That was the primary school,” Mr. Symonette said. “This was a restaurant here. That was one under construction there.”
The landscape had been rearranged to such a degree, with one heap of debris indistinguishable from the next, that Mr. Symonette at times got disoriented, mistaking one cluster of homes for another.
“Wow,” Mr. Symonette muttered.
A group of men sat by the roadside near the wreckage of a Haitian community called Sand Banks.
“Pastor, how you doing?” one called out.
“I’m all right,” Mr. Symonette replied.
“Thank God for life,” the man said.
“Thank God for life.”
Mr. Symonette had one more thing to check out: the evangelical church where he was once the pastor. He had overseen its construction, which took seven years.
When it came into view, Mr. Symonette was visibly relieved. It was a tall, sturdy-looking building, and except for some pieces of roofing that had sheared off, it seemed to have survived the storm well.
Even the 20-foot-high cross that soared upward from the top of the facade remained in place, a fact that Mr. Symonette noted with satisfaction.
In Bahamas, a Blind Father Wades to Safety, His Disabled Son on His Shoulders
By Rachel Knowles | Published Sept. 5, 2019 Updated Sept. 6, 2019, 11:50 a.m. ET | New York Times | Posted September 6, 2019 4:55 PM ET |
NASSAU, the Bahamas — The roof had blown clean off. Outside, the ocean surged, swallowing the land. Brent Lowe knew he had to escape — and take his 24-year-old son, who has cerebral palsy and can’t walk, with him.
But Mr. Lowe had another problem. He’s blind.
So he put his grown son on his shoulders, then stepped off his porch, he said. The swirling current outside came up to his chin.
“It was scary, so scary,” said Mr. Lowe, 49.
Clutching neighbors, he said he felt his way to the closest home still standing. It was five minutes — an eternity — away.
Stories of unlikely survival have slowly emerged in the days since Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas, pummeling the islands of Grand Bahama and Abaco for days before moving toward the Atlantic Seaboard.
While the damage has been visible from above, the full human toll is still far from certain, with 30 deaths confirmed so far and the authorities warning that the real number may be much higher.
The death count “could be staggering,” said Dr. Duane Sands, the minister of health, who updated the toll late Thursday.
Some neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble, almost entirely flattened by the storm. In others, 95 percent of homes have been damaged or destroyed.
Thousands of people are now homeless, taking refuge in gymnasiums or churches, and the authorities are bracing for an influx of bodies as the extent of the destruction becomes clear.
[See Hurricane Dorian in Pictures]
“We are embalming bodies so that we have more capacity as new bodies are brought in,” Dr. Sands said. “We need to get coolers into Abaco and Grand Bahama, because we believe that we may not have the capacity to store the bodies.”
Sandra Cooke, a resident of Nassau, the capital, said her sister-in-law had been trapped under a collapsed roof in the Abaco Islands.
At first, her brother couldn’t find his wife — then the family dog detected her in the rubble. When there was a break in the storm, neighbors helped free her.
“She was trapped under the roof for 17 hours,” said Ms. Cooke. She hired a private helicopter service to bring the rescued woman to Nassau, she said.
When Hurricane Dorian first made landfall on Sunday, Mr. Lowe recalled, all of its fury seemed to bear down on him.
The storm raging outside was one of the most powerful ever to sweep through the Atlantic. Its eye was approaching and the group of eight people inside Mr. Lowe’s cement house was particularly vulnerable.
In addition to Mr. Lowe and his disabled son, neighbors whose homes had already been destroyed were also sheltering there. Among them were two children.
As the storm howled around them, Mr. Lowe said, the roof began to lift off, then slap back down. Abaco withstood sustained winds of up to 185 miles per hour that day, with gusts that reached 220 miles per hour. The group sought safety in the bathroom, where they huddled together and prayed, hoping for relief. Mr. Lowe’s son was nestled inside the bathtub, he said.
That’s when the roof flew away.
Exposed to the elements, each person had to step out into the storm. They clung to each other and set out to find refuge.
“I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life,” said Mr. Lowe, who is no stranger to hurricanes but said he could never have imagined the terror of that day.
The group reached a neighbor’s home. Mr. Lowe and his son hunkered down there for a day until a rescue bus was able to pick them up on Monday and take them to a shelter.
On Tuesday night, he was evacuated to Nassau, where Mr. Lowe can get the dialysis treatment he needs three times a week. His son had to stay in Abaco, in the care of Mr. Lowe’s sister-in-law, he said.
“I came here with the clothes that I had on from Saturday,” he said.
Although Mr. Lowe and his son are now safe, his ordeal is, in some ways, only beginning.
He didn’t know if his eldest daughter made it through the storm, he said. The phone lines have been down for days and communication with Abaco is very difficult.
“Right before we had the wind, I spoke with her,” he said. “I wish I could have been able to call and ask somebody, you know, because I really was worried about them. I was worried about everybody.”
So many people have been pushed from their homes by the hurricane that in Marsh Harbour, the main town on Abaco, as many as 2,000 people were seeking shelter in a clinic and a government complex. Officials warned that tent cities might have to be set up to accommodate the many survivors.
There are also environmental concerns. The Norwegian energy company Equinor said an oil storage terminal on the island of Grand Bahama had been damaged. The terminal was leaking, the company said, though it was too early to tell how much oil had spilled.
From the air, the storage tanks appeared to have no lids. The domed tops of five of tanks were “gone,” a company spokesman said.
Bahamian officials urged their citizens to be unified.
“There are no words to convey the grief we feel for our fellow Bahamians in the Abacos and Grand Bahama,” Dionisio D’Aguilar, the tourism and aviation minister, said in a statement. “Now is the time to come together for our brothers and sisters in need, and help our country get back on its feet.”
Like many of his neighbors, Mr. Lowe is now homeless. After a lifetime on the outskirts of Marsh Harbour — where he raised a family and worked as a butcher in a fish house until he lost his eyesight to diabetes — his home, his community and everything he built has been obliterated.
Still, Mr. Lowe wants to return to Abaco.
“I have to go,” he said. “That’s where my family is. My kids are there, my brothers, my sisters, they’re all there.”
But he is unsure of its future. The damage is catastrophic.
In the area where he lived, “90 percent of the houses are compromised,” he said. “I’m talking about roofs gone, houses totally collapsed everywhere.”
He added, “I’m just wondering where we’re going to live when I go back home, what I’m going to do.”
Death Toll Rises to 30 in Bahamas, as Stories of Survival Emerge
By Rachel Knowles and Frances Robles |
Published Sept. 5, 2019 | New York Times | Posted September 6, 2019 |
NASSAU, Bahamas — Days after Hurricane Dorian bore down in fury on the Bahamas, leaving at least 30 people dead and thousands homeless, harrowing stories of survival have begun to emerge.
Sandra Cooke, a resident of Nassau, the capital, said her sister-in-law had been trapped under a collapsed roof in the Abaco Islands. At first, her brother couldn’t find his wife, but the family dog eventually detected her in the rubble. When there was a break in the storm, neighbors helped free her.
Ms. Cooke was reunited with her sister-in-law on Tuesday.
“She was trapped under the roof for 17 hours,” said Ms. Cooke on Wednesday, adding that she had hired a private helicopter service to bring the rescued woman to Nassau.
[Here’s how to help Hurricane Dorian survivors in the Bahamas.]
But officials fear that as the picture on the ground becomes clearer, the death toll could rise.
The death count “could be staggering” said Dr. Duane Sands, the Bahamas’ minister of health, on Thursday.
Dr. Sands said that there were already four undertakers working on Abaco Island, the largest island on the Abaco Islands, and that he did not know if more would be needed.
“We are embalming bodies so that we have more capacity as new bodies are brought in,” he said. “We need to get coolers into Abaco and Grand Bahama, because we believe that we may not have the capacity to store the bodies.”
Marvin Dames, the minister of national security, said at a news conference on Wednesday night that the process of clearing the streets and making airports available had already begun on the Abaco Islands and on Grand Bahama, the two areas of the archipelago hit hardest by the hurricane, one of the strongest Atlantic storms on record.
Aerial footage taken over the Abacos showed roads washed away and debris scattered across beaches. Splintered wood jutted from clusters of damaged homes.
Gaining access to Marsh Harbour, the largest city on Abaco Island, has been problematic, with the airport, Leonard M. Thompson International, left underwater for days after the storm. Like Ms. Cooke, other people also resorted to private companies to help in the evacuations.
A British Navy vessel is stationed near Marsh Harbour for relief support and has been distributing food and water.
There are no official estimates of the number of people displaced by the storm. But in Marsh Harbour, as many as 2,000 people were seeking shelter in a clinic and a government complex.
“Already we have begun the process of evacuating people from Abaco into New Providence,” Dr. Sands said. New Providence is the island where Nassau is located. “Those airlifts have started.”
He said some evacuees were being sent to the Kendall G.L. Isaacs National Gymnasium in Nassau, but that additional shelters would have to be identified.
Dr. Sands also said it was possible that tent cities would be set up on Abaco Island.
The Norwegian energy company Equinor said the hurricane had damaged its oil storage terminal in South Riding Point on the island of Grand Bahama. The terminal was leaking, the company said, but it was too early to tell how much oil had spilled.
During a flight Wednesday over the terminal The New York Times saw storage tanks that appeared to have no lid. The domed tops of five of its tanks were “gone,” a company spokesman said, but only three contained significant amounts of oil before the hurricane.
Oil was visible on the ground surrounding the tanks, but the seawater around the terminal was clear.
“Ahead of the hurricane we shut down the terminal as a precautionary measure and the terminal has been designed with hurricanes and storms in mind,” said Erik Haaland, a company spokesman. “The areas surrounding the tanks are also designed as barriers to contain oil spills. So far we have not received information that oil has been observed at sea.”
Some areas near the terminal had been evacuated at the request of local authorities. The company was still trying to establish a better overview of the terminal and said it was “mounting a safe and timely response to the situation.”
“While weather conditions on the island have improved, road conditions and flooding continue to impact our ability to assess the situation and the scope of damages to the terminal and its surroundings,” the statement said.
No Equinor employees were at the terminal when the storm passed. Equinor, formerly known as Statoil, said it shut down operations of the terminal at noon last Saturday in preparation for the hurricane. The workers were given time off to look after their families and secure their private homes, the statement said.
The storm made landfall in the Bahamas on Sunday as a Category 5 hurricane and stalled there for three days, inundating the islands and destroying homes and businesses.
In the days since, the storm has weakened significantly, and by Thursday morning was swirling off the coast of the Carolinas as a Category 3 hurricane. Residents there were bracing for dangerous rain, winds and storm surge.
In the Bahamas, officials made pleas for support and prayers from the international community.
He urged travelers to visit areas in the Bahamas that were not affected by the storm in order to aid the country’s economic recovery.

How to Test for Mold Illness in Your Body
Do you have mold illness?
Check out my top recommended testing methods to find out, including:
  Mold Toxicity Checklist
Mycotoxin Urine Test
Bloodwork
Gut Testing
Liver Function Testing
DUTCH Cortisol Hormone Test
Visual Contrast Sensitivity Testing
Mold Illness Refresher
Let’s briefly review Mold Illness 101 before diving into my top recommended tests to know what we are looking for in the first place.
Mold illness or “mycotoxin illness” is a serious condition that is commonly referred to as “CIRS”—Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome.
Unlike a disease—which is condition typically with a specific known cause and similar symptoms (such as insulin resistance, frequent urination and weight gain in people with diabetes)— a syndrome, like CIRS, is a much broader “collection of signs and symptoms” that may present differently in different people.
  Signs & Symptoms of CIRS
Common signs and symptoms of mold illness or CIRS include
Respiratory difficulties (difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, asthma)
Neurological symptoms
Sinus congestion and stuffy nose
Hair loss
Anxiety
Brain fog, confusion or memory loss
Difficulty concentrating
Morning stiffness, joint pain
Light sensitivity
Skin rashes
Red eyes, blurred vision, sweats, mood swings, sharp pains
Feeling lightheaded or dizzy
Appetite swings
Poor body temperature regulation,
Gastrointestinal problems (cramps, abdominal pain)
Weight loss or weight gain (unintentional)
Unusual skin sensations, tingling and numbness
You may have several of these symptoms—or just one or two. The amount of symptoms don’t matter as much as the unrelenting poor health experienced because of them.
Although these symptoms are also synonymous with other conditions often talked about in functional medicine—from “adrenal fatigue”, thyroid disorders to gut dysbiosis—the key distinguisher in mycotoxin illness or CIRS is often times, these are often the patients who do not “get better” once commencing a protocol.
Buttttt….how do you know if you really have “mold illness” or CIRS—or you’re just feeling out of sorts? What tests can you do to reveal true illness
  There are a handful…
  Mold Toxicity Checklist
Aside from identifying your symptoms, answer “Yes” or “No” for the following questions (adapted from Environmental Health Center).
  Yes or No?
Do musty odors bother you?
Have you worked or lived in a building where the air vents or ceiling tiles were discolored?
Have you noticed water damage or discoloration elsewhere?
Has your home been flooded?
Have you had leaks in the roof?
Do you experience unusual shortness of breath?
Do you experience recurring sinus infections?
Do you experience recurring respiratory infections and coughing?
Do you have frequent flu-like symptoms?
Do your symptoms worsen on rainy days?
Do you have frequent headaches?
Are you fatigued and have a skin rash?
If you answer “yes” to 4 or more, your CIRS-like symptoms may have some more merit.
  Mycotoxin Urine Test
Mycotoxin urine testing is a relatively newer form of testing that can reveal the release of toxins in the urine. If you really suspect mycotoxin illness from molds to be at play, this test can yield highly insightful information for putting your puzzle together.
  Some key detected mycotoxins include:
Ochratoxins
Aflatoxins
Trichothecenes
Glicotoxins
  Recommendation:
Great Plains Urine Testing (Order Here on behalf of Dr. Lauryn Lax, OTD).
*Note: Sometimes false “negatives” can occur with urine testing since some patients are unable to detoxify in the first place. In order to get the most accurate results, I recommend using high dose glutathione + NAC for 5 to 7 days prior to conducting your urine test in order to encourage elimination and detoxification.
My preferred formula is Trizomal Glutathione by Apex Energetics, which includes both NAC and glutathione. Take 1 tsp 3 times per day for 5 to 7 days.  It is tough to find online, but if you call the company directly at 949-251-0152, request a bottle be sent to you on behalf of Dr. Lauryn Lax.
  Bloodwork
Bloodwork doesn’t always tell the whole story of CIRS or mycotoxin illness, but certainly can point to markers of inflammation and immune dysregulation.
Unfortunately, many patients consult with their conventional medical practitioners and are told, “Your lab tests are normal”, but have not ordered more specialized tests that help look deeper into mycotoxicity and inflammation.  Helpful markers and their normal ranges for assessing mycotoxin illness include:
  Specialty Mycotoxin Blood Tests
Elevations in the following markers point to mold toxicity
VIP (normal range: 23-63, only available by ARUP Labs)
MSH (normal: 35-81)
MMP-9 (normal: 85-332)
C4a (normal: 0-2380)
TGF-beta-1 (normal: <2380)
Leptin (Male: 0.5-13.8; Female: 1.1-27.5)
HLA-DR (the gene that 25% of the population has, making them more susceptible to mycotoxicity; can only be run by LabCorp)
    OTHER LABS
Other labs that may be “off” on general lab work include:
  Complete Blood Count
Red Blood Count low (normal: 4.40–4.90 x 106/µL)
White Blood Count low or high (normal: 5.0–0 x 103/µL)
  Methylation Markers
MMA high (ideal < 300 nmol/L)
Folate low (ideal > 8 μg/L)
  Bloodsugar Markers
Glucose low or high (normal fasting: 75-85, normal 1-2 hours post-meal: 110-140)
HgbA1C high (normal 4.6–5.3%)
  Liver Enzymes
AST high (normal: Male: 0–25 IU/L; Female: 0–23 IU/L)
ALT high (normal: Male: 0–26 IU/L; Female: 0–20 IU/L)
  Nutrient Markers*
Zinc (often low)* (normal: 81–157 µg/dL)
Copper* often high (excess copper can lead to low zinc) (normal: 81–157 µg/dL)
Iron high or low (ideal: 40–135 µg/dL)
Ferritin high (Male: 30–200 ng/mL; Female: 30–100 ng/mL)
Vitamin D low (normal: 35–60 ng/mL)
*Urine testing via NutraEval (Order Here and search for “NutraEval FMV by Genova)
  Inflammatory Markers
Total Cholesterol high (normal: 150–220 mg/dL for males; 150–230 mg/dL for females)
LDL Cholesterol high (normal: 0–140 mg/dL)
C Reactive Protein (CRP) high (normal: 0–1 mg/L)
BUN high or low (normal: 13–18 mg/dL)
Creatine low (normal: Male: 0.85–1.1 mg/dL; Female: 0.7 – 1.0 mg/dL)
  Hormone Markers*
*Hormone markers can be a sign that something more is going on “under the hood.” Inflammation from mold toxicity and CIRS can drive hormone imbalance. Since hormones are the “key messengers” made by our glands to regulate body functions, if our hormones are “off”, they may perpetuate the symptoms of CIRS.
  PTH elevation (normal: 10-35 pg/mL
T3 (Thyroid Hormone) deficiency (normal: 2.5–4.0 pg/mL)
Testosterone deficiency
Progesterone deficiency
Estrogen dominance or deficiency
Bloodwork out of the norm in several of these areas may indicate imbalance.
    Gut Testing
A bi-directional relationship exists between mycotoxins and gut microbiome—mycotoxicity can impact and worsen our gut health, just like poor gut health can make one more susceptible to mycotoxicosis (1)—creating the “perfect” storm.
On this note, it’s critical to realize, “mold illness” does not just happen from mold alone. Other pathogens that cause the same symptoms as mold illness include:
Bacteria & bacterial infections (like Babesia and Borrelia)
Fungi
Mycobacteria
Mold
Mold spores
Endotoxins (aka lipopolysaccharides, or LPS; cell wall components of gram-negative bacteria)
Inflammagens (irritants that cause inflammation and edema)
Beta-glucans (sugars that are found in the cell walls of bacteria, fungi, yeasts, algae, lichens, and plants)
Hemolysins (toxins produced by bacteria that can destroy cells)
Volatile organic compounds
The key theme behind all of these? They affect your gut!
Your gut microbiome is home to 100 trillion microorganisms (gut bacteria). The healthier your gut bacteria, the healthier you are! The sicker or more pathogenic your gut bacteria, the sicker you are!
It’s no wonder that candida (fungal overgrowth) and sinus congestion (from fungi and mold growth in the nose—part of the nasal microbiome) are common in those with suspected mold toxicity or CIRS (2).
Given that approximately 80% of your immune system is produced and housed in your gut, a “strong” gut filled with diverse, healthy gut bacteria helps boost your immune fighting defenses to weather the storm of mold and mycotoxin exposure. However, if your gut is infiltrated by pathogens—and not enough “man power” to weather the storm, eventually your gut microbiome profile can shift, resulting in an unhealthier gut…and an unhealthier you.
  Recommendation:
Comprehensive Stool Analysis + Parasitology x 3 (Doctor’s Data) (Order Here)
  Liver Testing & Symptom Checklist
In addition to your gut, your liver—your body’s “chemical processing factory” and recycling system—also plays an important role in guarding against mycotoxin and mold illness. Consider your liver your “defense” for mycotoxin and mold exposure. A sluggish or overworked liver can equally wreak havoc on your health and make you susceptible to mycotoxin illness
  Liver Checklist
The best way to assess for liver dysfunction is a combination of blood markers and symptoms. Common liver malfunction indicators include:
  Nausea
Sensitive to chemicals (perfuma, cleaning agents, etc.)
Bitter/metallic taste in mouth
Headache over the eyes
Easily motion sick
Itchy skin
Jaundice colored skin/eyes
Swelling (abdomen, legs, ankles)
Light or clay colored stools
Greasy or shiny stools
Constipation
Easily intoxicated
Hormone imbalances (PMS, PMDD, irregular menses)
Glucose/blood sugar imbalances (hypoglycemia in particular)
Brain fog
Nutrasweet/artificial sweetener consumption
History of antibiotics, birth control or long term medications
  Liver Function Blood Markers
ALT: High
AST: High
GGT: High
LDH: High
Alkaline Phosphatase: High
    Cortisol Hormone Testing
Your CNS (central nervous system) is your “stress response system.” When functioning properly, your body is able to overcome stress. If malfunctioning, chronic illness and uncontrolled inflammation happens. Swelling of the brain and “stress response” system can lead to changes in nerve endings and interfere with the electrical signaling to all functions of the body. Enter: The unrelenting CIRS symptoms that persist for those who suffer from mycotoxin illness.
Cortisol hormone testing can give you a clearer picture of where your “stress hormones” are at, along with neurotransmitter function that play a role in controlling inflammation and stress in the body as well—such as dopamine and serotonin.
Note: NOT all hormone testing is created equal. While bloodwork is great for assessing sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone), it is not great at cortisol testing.
Cortisol is a constantly changing hormone throughout the day. Therefore you need to collect multiple samples in a given day via urine and saliva in order to see an accurate pattern for your body. In addition, not all urine and saliva tests are created equal! Most tests measure either one or the other—leaving you with only partial results. Most tests also only measure “free cortisol”—NOT metabolized cortisol. However, free cortisol only makes up less than 3% of all cortisol in your body.
For these reasons, to date, the gold standard for cortisol hormone testing is the DUTCH test—which uses both urine and saliva testing, and measures both free and metabolized cortisol.
  Recommendation:
DUTCH Cortisol Hormone Testing (Order Here)
  Visual Contrast Sensitivity Test
Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, creator of SurvivingMold.com and a “father” of mold toxicity recovery invented the “Visual Contrast Sensitivity” test  to measure of one of the neurologic functions of vision called contrast.
In his years of work with patients recovering from mycotoxin illness, Dr. Shoemaker realized a key theme his patients shared was poor “contrast sensitivity” in their vision.
His online test can help individuals further identify potential exposure to neurotoxins, biotoxins, and nutritional deficiencies in the body. These compounds have been implicated in diseases such as ADHD, CFIDS, fibromyalgia, mold illness, and Lyme disease.
It’s not the “end all, be all”, but can be part of a comprehensive work up.
    Beyond Testing
While testing can be a helpful piece of the puzzle to identifying and confirming CIRS and mycotoxin illness, it’s vital to remember, testing is not the “end all, be all.”
As a functional medicine practitioner, I treat and empower individuals based on the person, not the numbers, and if empirical findings—such as your symptoms or lack of health improvement despite “doing all the things” (i.e. eating clean, working out, sleeping) are still present, then it is safe to assume that something is not right “under the hood.”
Check out the next post on my top ways to “treat” for mold and get rid of it! (So you can get on with your full, amazing life).
