HOLYCIDE 1st song, cover art and tracklist for new album!!
(en español: https://b.link/holycide9)
Listen on Youtube: https://youtu.be/L-_boDlnEhA
All digital platforms : https://music.imusician.pro/a/hxNhoEgv
Spanish Thrashers HOLYCIDE have just announced details of their 3rd album which will be titled "Towards Idiocracy". They have revealed the cover art, the tracklist, as well as the first advance single that can now be heard on all digital platforms. "Towards Idiocracy" will be released in June 6th (international day of Slayer) through XTREEM MUSIC on CD, 12"LP, Cassette and Digital formats.
Formed exactly 20 years ago by Dave Rotten of Avulsed and Vicente Paya of Unbounded Terror/ Golgotha, the band really began their journey in earnest in 2013 and since their exciting debut EP “Toxic Mutation” back in 2015, HOLYCIDE have held the banner high for uncompromising, undiluted Thrash Metal – in the words of the mighty Exodus, “100% all out nothing less, aggressive relentless and mean”.
Like no other band in the modern age, HOLYCIDE’s dedication to Thrash is absolute and with their third full length album, “Towards Idiocracy”, they have created a genuine Thrash masterpiece. From the opening attack of ‘A.I. Supremacy’ to the last defiant chord of final track ‘Flamethrower ‘em All’, via a flawless cover of the Atrophy classic ‘Chemical Dependency’, “Towards Idiocracy” is a nirvana of monstrous riffs, relentless drums and a snarling vocal presence that will have the faint ears running for the hills. A caustic attack on humanity’s pathetic addiction to a shallow, selfish existence, “Towards Idiocracy” is every bit as vehement in its unforgiving lyrical exhortations as in its rapid fire, twin guitar assault. HOLYCIDE are setting the standards for Thrash in 2024!
HOLYCIDE is best described with four simple words - Mother Fucking Thrash Metal. For fans of Dark Angel, Morbid Saint, Atrophy, D.R.I., Infernäl Mäjesty, Exodus, Sepultura (Beneath/ Arise), Vio-Lence...
Still bonded by blood with Xtreem Music, HOLYCIDE will unleash the fistful of Metal that is “Towards Idiocracy” on June 6th – the international day of Slayer. What more fitting release date could there be for an album which is HOLYCIDE’s very own “Reign in Blood”? Their most intense, unyielding and inexorable album to date! Mixed and mastered for maximum impact by Javier Fernández Milla (Avulsed, Golgotha, The Heretic, etc) and Davide Billia (Hour of Penance, Beheaded, etc) and housed in the vividly violent artwork of Daemorph Art (The Black Dahlia Murder, Sorrow, Bodyfarm, etc), “Towards Idiocracy” is the complete Thrash package. Prepare for detonation!
So far, 2024 comes with great plans and goals for HOLYCIDE, not only with the release of the new album, but with the return to the stage with two confirmations at super-festivals such as Rock Imperium Festival (Spain), Obscene Extreme Festival (Czech Rep.), Kanekas Metal Fest (Spain) and a few more surprises coming up.
Tracklist for "Towards Idiocracy" is as follows:
01. A.I. Supremacy
02. Towards Idiocracy
03. Remote Control
04. Lie is the New Truth
05. Power Corrupts
06. Technophobia
07. Angry For Nothing
08. Chemical Dependency (Atrophy cover)
09. Pleased to Be Deceived
10. Flamethrower 'em All
Release date for "Towards Idiocracy" will be June 6th, 2024 (international day of Slayer) through XTREEM MUSIC on CD, 12"LP, Cassette & Digital formats.

Meet the Band: Juniper Honey!
Hey blawgers! I’m DJ Penny Lane and this is my first interview in a series I have named “Meet the Band,” where I interview musicians so you can get to know their musical style and background.
My first band here on this series is Juniper Honey, a Southern California indie-rock band. The band is composed of four members, Josh West (bass), Donovan Hess (drums), Jake Hesse (vocals and guitar), and Cason LeSueur (guitar). The band started with two members, Hesse and Hess, departing from their high school band to embark on a new musical journey, eventually teaming up with West and LeSueur to form Juniper Honey. Through creating their own image, I asked if they draw inspiration from other bands, collectively the band landed on more classic bands like the Beatles. However they aren’t exactly striving for one style, as West talks about how, “A lot of us have a very broad variety of tastes, getting influenced by each other[band members] and by other bands pretty much every week.” To add on, Hesse also explains how the band brings “different musical backgrounds, but at the end of the day all of it melts together.” It’s an advantage that each of the members can contribute a different musical influence to the band, opening up a gateway of ideas when creating and sharing their music.
I am always invested in a band's creative process while inventing their music and sounds, so I asked how Juniper Honey works on theirs. “I think we all do a really great job at bringing in our individual elements to the table and hashing things out. We’re also good at giving each other feedback to help build off all of our ideas,” LeSueur answers. I asked if they ever sit down together and have creative writing sessions, and to that Hesse answers, “That’s what everyone hopes happens, but in most cases the more natural thing starts with someone in their bedroom with a guitar and they come up with something. It usually comes to the rest of the band in a very early, raw stage, so it still feels like it’s written from scratch.” West builds off of this with, “That early form could be something like the lyrics, the melody, or a simple chord structure, but then it completely takes its shape after we can all have a stab at it and start adding elements that are us along with the input we share on it.”
While Juniper Honey's performances have been somewhat spread out due to all the band members still attending school, Hesse explains how their current group of shows “has definitely felt like more of a tour.” As they transition from occasional gigs to securing more committed performances, I had to ask them whether they aspire to further pursue music. “I’d love to play some festivals,” remarks Hess regarding some long term goals for the band. “We’re definitely trying to give it all we got,” West adds. “The goal and what we’re shooting for is to continue what we're doing and see where the music takes us. We’ve seen a lot of growth over the last year, and I’m excited to see what these next years will hold.” I caught up with the band midway through their tour, and their standout memory thus far is a show they played at the Brick and Mortar in San Francisco a few weeks back. "We made a lot of cool friends along the way,” West comments, “and I feel like we all delivered a really great performance." Overall, the band receives lots of encouragement from their shows having such great turnouts in cities they didn’t expect. Hesse explains how, “Our expectations are naturally low, so we're pretty surprised when we find ourselves in a place where there are people we’ve never met, yet they know to come see us.” This positive reception fuels their passion and motivates them to continue pursuing their musical endeavors with greater determination.
The last question I asked the band was inspired by the movie Almost Famous, as the last question of the movie ends with the main character being asked,“What do you love about music?” Here are there answers:
Josh West: “I am always captivated by the emotions that music can evoke. Different types of music, different songs, different lyrics can all bring certain memories and emotions into my head. It blows my mind.”
Donovan Hess: “From the listeners perspective I would have to agree with Josh. But from a performance perspective, I’d say I love seeing the transition from playing shows in highschool where all of our friends are having a good time to seeing all of these new people having a good experience with our music. It’s cool to see how happy you can make some people even though you wouldn’t think our music can make this big of an impact on a person.”
Jake Hesse: “What I love about music is the bond that is created from such a simple thing. It can be on so many different levels and look so many different ways. Whether it’s my dad and I bonding over a song, or being at a concert and bonding with complete strangers and feeling so together. I think there’s a beautiful power to music because it’s one of those few things that can make you feel like you can escape and be anywhere except for that one moment.”
Cason LeSueur: “My favorite thing is probably how expressive music is and can make you feel. Whether it’s lyrically or musically you can feel the intimacy from a listener perspective or creator perspective, providing a super connected experience.”
It's been a pleasure delving into the world of Juniper Honey, and I'm excited to see where their musical journey takes them next. To all the readers, keep an eye out for Juniper Honey's upcoming performances and go listen to their music!

2000 Stockholm - Number 2 - Raquel Alão - "De Ti Serei"
youtube
It's hard to say quite how much I love this song, in part because I don't understand the lyrics. I don't have them and my Portuguese comprehension is non-existent. A bigger part, is because I'm speechless with warm, happy feelings as De ti serei (I will be with you/I will be for you) makes my heart soar.
Raquel Alão has featured in my top 26s before with her only other other appearance at the Festival da Canção four years prior to this. She's a soprano, here in the early stages of her operatic career - and with a highly non-operatic song. From her purple onstage waterproofs to the conventionality of the song, you'd never guess that her main career would be performances of early choral works, opera, and a large classical repertoire - a huge distance away from the mainstream rock and pop charts.
In 2000 she's just graduating from her classical singing course at the Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional - that voice has be sculpted to perfection.
I doubt that this song stretched her talent far, but its instrumentation full of rising yearning and passion hit home every time the central progression repeats. The magic here is not only from Raquel and her voice, but from the song-writing and arrangement. Its guitar introduction lays out the motif of the simple breathe-in rise and breathe-out fall chord sequence that cycles throughout the song. At all points you know where it's going and every time, you're just waiting for it to hit the heights in the middle of the chorus hook, before returning to home base
Raquel and her highly non-Eurovision related musical career may have been tempted back to the Festival da Canção, because this year Portugal is not at Eurovision - they were relegated last year but RTP went ahead and organised a FdC anyway - only eight songs, but songs of high quality - even if this is the only one that had made it into my countdown. There's a distinctly different air to it this year - perhaps down to those wanting to perform at Eurovision being absent.
That this song was put on second and only finished fourth should say something about the quality, and despite its result, I'm off to hold up my lighter/mobile and sway along to this set-closer with a little happy sob.
As this is the last time Raquel will appear, here's a clip of her in her more regular setting. This is Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit, by Brahms sung with Raquel as the solo soprano from 2014

Sweeping The industry
Part 1
Tumblr media
Dr Luke music extraordinaire has no idea this newbie will completely change his life.
It was simple enough one day I met him at restaurant.
I push my way through to greet him offering my hand and then here it goes.
“I want to be your protege”
“I want to learn from you “
“You will start to train me tonight “
He gets up telling me to follow him after he pays for dinner.
Showing me around his private studio I bow out.
Playing a few chords to his shock is chaotic, beautiful and raw.
He left what he was doing in a zombie like state, eyes dull and body motionless.
“Beautiful, play again”
“Yes! This your new song”
“You play it”
I have the ability to use music to tap into its roots and manipulate others with it.
I slap him on his back loving his indifference to anything but the sweet bliss.
Quickly, I place a seat next to him as we began to compose and write.
Part 2
Tumblr media
Music paragon Max Martin has written what are some of my favorite songs ever.
So at the World Icon Music festival in his home county of Sweden.
I planned to unveil my project with Dr. Luke and enthrall him at the same time.
“Master, everything is perfect”
“Commence”
“Sir Yes Sir”
The lights dim, the venue blows up with glow sticks and the music blurs on.
The crowd enamored by if all has no idea of the foresight to see the blue wave.
The more he plays, the louder the screams of the crowd guiding the sound.
“Excellent! Max is ripe for the taking “
“Hit the crescendo “
“As you wish Sir, bbbbbooooommmmm”
The entire sea of people fell unconscious on the filthy lawn grass.
Waking up silent they are so pumped for the next performance.
On our way our Max Martin find us inviting us to his place.
“I would like collaborate and submit”
Part 3
Tumblr media
“Calvin Harris right?”
“Yes, that’s me”
“Check this out”
“Go away “
“Listen…now”
“Bbbblllllbbbbaaannnngggggbbbbbaaaaddddaaa”
The music erupts out of nowhere reaching a new high each note.
Sweeping the room with glorious rush of my new song.
The music rises engulfing his ear to a sweet tune as his body shakes.
He can’t help but starts to bob his head out of control.
His body swings away at melodic slow to fast pace under my power.
His feet stop dancing jumping up to his feet as he can’t help but dance.
“I love you”
“You are my favorite my Dj”
“My favorite producer”
“You will work for me”
“You are my slave “
“Now dance for me”
Part 4
Tumblr media
We have been working so hard in my brand spanking new studio.
The hook, the base and every melodic tone overtakes us.
We write, dance and party all night that is till he shows up.
Kaskade is at my door in waves of raging emotional annoyance.
I roll my eyes as he walks into my home the power of the song at full swing.
He stops mid step instantly the music is onto him like heat seeking middle.
“Oh Wait!”
“Enjoy the music”
“We all did”
“It’s our collaboration “
“All four he now”
“Will take the world by storm one song at a time.”
“What do you want from me? Tell me!”
“Our troop will only grow”
“You love me, serve me and obey me”

The celebration of this year’s April 4th – his American’s birthday – was months, months in the planning. It was to be the first Ron could spend in his company, what with his move to New York last winter, and so to mark that fact, and to welcome in the next year of the good man’s life propah, thinking caps were put on early. Ears were opened. And a number Ron hadn’t dialled since oh, before moving over State-side, was rung. Had he sprung this notion of his on the fella he’d dialled last minute he’d have shot him down. Man was busy, had engagements, studio-time, plans for tours and all sorts, but he remembered the cockney drawl at the end of the phone fondly from a couple’a years ago tenue in London’s club scene, so testing the acoustics at Ron’s new Venture? It was hardly an ask in the first place, but was even less of one after mention of a musically talented jam-buddy-come-fan was made.
Diaries were marked, the 4th came round, and The Venture’s doors were quietly closed to the public from lunchtime ‘til the late evening to give Ron’s guest a chance to settle in and get his sound on, and to give Ron an ample window in which to steal Riley away from the day’s earlier-hours festivities and make introductions. Ron hated fibbing, but he consoled himself - as he spun a little tale about closing up shop early so Riley could have a jam session in the pub’s newly minted live performance space – with the knowledge that he was in fact telling half-truths. He had closed up for that very reason. It’s just that Riley, his favourite guitar in hand as they moved from car to premises, wouldn’t be jamming alone.
Soon as they neared the doors, there was music on the air. Chords were being tested and, if you listened close, a bluesy drawl that Ron would describe, if asked, as whiskey’s voice singing was crooning away at intervals. Key to lock, Ron fought the adrenaline bubbling up at the prospect of his gift coming clear like a Spartan ‘til a glance round at Riley kicked that straight out the park. With a grin that was all teeth and open lips and crinkling skin by his eyes, he took opening that door slow-time and began to speak.
“—Y’remembah I told yah I knew artists in club land, Lahndan, righ?”
The heavy door eased open, both men slipping in through a cloud of that whiskey-blues-sound. Ron turned and locked up quickly, then drew Riley through the entryway and onto floors of tile and hardwood. The live performance area – a slightly raised stage with room for a chair or stool as the artist preferred, their instruments and a microphone – lived off to their right; the bar and other seating spread out before them and left. An arm round his mate’s back, Ron went on.
“—Made friends ‘ov a few ‘ov ‘em – acquaintances’a more, ‘n since I ‘eard yah mention a name I knew as a faverit’a yours I—” Glee made a breath catch in his throat. Ron swallowed showing it back, but everything in him sang with the want to move. He contented himself to gesturing towards the familiar face populating his Venture’s stage.  The man looked up from plucking Heaven on his guitar strings, flashed the pair a smile, laughed a—
“Finally!”
-- to which Ron rasp-laughed back.
“Sorry t’keep yah, Joe” he greeted, bowing his head by way of the handshake he’d have given him if he had even the vaguest inclination to leave Riley’s side. To his friend then he said, “I f’ort y’might fancy keepin’ Mistah Bonamassa comp’ny f’a bit.” The arm round Riley’s back gave a little squeeze as Ron smiled up at him. It was a wonky thing, like the real ones always were. A wink flickered by as the expression eased into a warm, obvious kind of fondness. “Bar’s open f’yah if y’want anyfin’, yeah?” Softer then, and with feeling he enthused–
“--‘Appy birfday.”
Never fails, no matter how long he's been up the night before either at work or enjoying not being on his beat, he finds himself awake at half past four in the morning. He'd specifically taken the week off to celebrate another year inching him closer to forty. And yet despite his bed being comfortable, being warm enough not to set off the nerves of his phantom limb, and the window beyond the heavy curtains still being dark as fuck, the restlessness is already seeding itself through him. He should be up, running through his PT routine. He should be in the shower, washing off the last vestiges of sleep and the new coat of sweat. He should be in the kitchen making coffee then something healthy and protien heavy for breakfast, or at least something incredibly indulgent. He'd intentionally made no real plans, content to mourn a little more of his youth with a good bottle and maybe a handful of closest companions ~his brother and sister, of course, didn't really count as he sees them as extentions of himself~ and maybe a specifically catered dinner. He makes no effort to move, instead remains on his back, one arm thrown over his eyes. Neither sleeping nor fully awake, he listens to the morning progress. The traffic sounds coming up off the street, the so-called quiet shenanigans from his siblings who will swear they're trying their best to not wake him, and eventually he has to give up his ghosts when the door opens and they come bursting in. Coffee and breakfast on a tray, Beth singing the traditional birthday song, Billy singing a dirge. This checks out. At least the giant has good enough sense to jump onto the bed before Beth hands him the coffee and settles in on his other side. ~*~
Riley would never say it was grudging when Ron catches him off guard with the offer of something quiet as the night starts to cling to the city skyline. He should have realised there was something afoot when he left the apartment with his Gibson in its case, his siblings not uttering a word about his need for absence. That they'd been content with a 'call youse guys later", and out he went. Normally too, he would have balked at being picked up but he had no intentions of being a teetotaler tonight, and Sally was safer in the garage rather than on the street. Clearly, the sound system put in at the Venture was incredible, the live CD playing tripping its way across the pleasure centre of Riley's brain with its familiar and envy-inducing musicality. There were a great many musicians that inspired him with their art, names he could rattle off like his duty stations. A broad plethora of old and new that he judged his own skills by, and little hidden star-studded dreams that were for their weight just that. Private imaginings. When he passes his judgement on the speakers and stereo, the world lights up in Ron's face. That should have been clue number two. He remembers. Riley never really forgets anything, the curse of a photographic memory. He nods and grins, waiting to hear this story which feels so new its still shiny in the shorter man's mien, a feat unto itself. His eyes take a moment to adjust from the perpetual brilliance of the cityscape to the dimmer, honey-warm sort of lighting of the Venture's interior. The bar really is a gorgeous thing and with any luck, his friend will be as welcomed and rewarded by the city's adoration as he was back home in London, with the notable lack of his brother's anchor round his neck. If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. As Frankie was famous for crooning. As Ron rushed through the tale though, everything started to trickle in. The stage set up was familiar too, he'd seen it before. Excitement all but poured off Ron the way it does Beth on Christmas morning and it partially carries him away on its tide but then… Then. Riley knows the voice, and he knows the song, and he knows the guitar. There is still the tiniest of disconnects as he freezes beside his friend, when all of everything comes crashing into him with the impact of a subway train. The arm around Ron's shoulders flexes, then tightens. His mouth parts, voice already so deep dropping an octave. "I. I uh. You're…you've gotta be fuckin' kidding me right now, Rawnie." It's in the half gravel drawl that Ron would find a universe of words that Riley is ever so eloquent with, and how they've all come to a halt just behind his teeth, unable to climb one over the other to come out. There is almost never an instant when Riley is stunned, and yet right in this moment, that's exactly what he is. A deathlock of a grip around his Brit's neck. The nearly imperceptible quiver than runs through all six feet plus of him. And as if proof of divine miracles still happening in the world, at the whispered congratulations, Andrew Riley blushes.
