How's Thatcher handling all of this?

Thatcher’s first instinct is I need to fix this. He doesn’t know how, he doesn’t know why, but when he felt that droning, bellowing voice tell him to Follow the screams, he knew that he had a job to do. Something to take care of.

Coming across Adam for the first time, yes he’s terrified, but he also feels terrible. Above the screams and static, he hears the pleads for death most of all, and before he gets knocked out, he reaches out in an attempt to help the poor kid in front of him. Thatcher, who has been tortured by Alternates at every turn for the past 17 years, he knew that the kid in front of him was different. Definitely still dangerous, definitely needed to keep an eye on him, but different still.

Of course, Thatcher wakes up in the destroyed bedroom and Adam is gone. Shit. He hopes, he prays to whoever might be listening, that Adam isn’t another kid who dies under his watch. He can’t handle more death at his hands, be it direct or residual.

Thatcher hauls ass to the police station looking for every possible record on Adam, knowing that he’s had some run-ins with the law in general. His records were missing. A folder labeled Murray sat empty in one of the file cabinets at the Archives. Who would’ve taken it? At the very least, he knew he was connected to Sarah and her BPS operations—Sarah….oh, god.—He needed to protect her. That responsibility weighed heavy on his shoulders. He needed to call Dave, tell him what was going on, explain that he was sorry for anything he said to make him upset, and practically beg him to help again. His niece could be in danger, everything was crashing down, this was the event they’d been preparing for and they weren’t even close to ready. He needed to call Da-

i feel like a lot of the 'i hate kids' crowd would be more tolerant if they understood that due to a kid's limited experience of the world that 4 hour flight might just be the longest they've ever had to sit still for or that trapped finger might literally be the most pain they've ever felt in their short life or they might not have ever seen a person with pink hair ever so of course they want to touch it or nobody's told them yet that they can't run around the museum and they only just learned cheetahs are the fastest animals so of course they want to put that to the test. how were they supposed to know etc etc.
