“Smart Cars” + Capitalism = a very dystopian future
Ford’s patent ranges from having a “self driving” car return itself to the dealership if you miss a payment, to having the car abruptly disable itself, to “minor inconveniences” like having the air conditioner or heater stop working until you voluntarily return the car.
Don’t think for one second that all carmakers aren’t thinking about doing the same things. Especially Tesla Motors.
Carmakers are already trying to monetize even the most basic features, like charging monthly fees for the ability to use your car’s seat warmers.
Tumblr media
Anyway, nobody does more to radicalize people against capitalism more than greedy capitalists.

(5) Idaho's first 'abortion trafficking' arrest
Last week, an Idaho teenager and his mother were arrested for bringing the teen’s girlfriend out-of-state for an abortion. The pair were charged with multiple felonies, including second degree kidnapping, for taking a minor under 16 years-old “with the intent to keep or conceal [her] from her custodial parent...by transporting the child out of the state for the purpose of obtaining an abortion.”
The 15 year-old, identified in court records as K.B., was living in Pocatello with her 18 year-old boyfriend Kaydn* and his mother, Rachael, when she became pregnant. In May, they brought her to Oregon, where K.B. received abortion medication. Idaho’s ‘abortion trafficking’ law went into effect that same month.
The investigation into the mother and son began shortly after K.B.’s mother reported to police that her daughter had been sexually assaulted. Though K.B. became sexually active when Kaydn was 17 years-old, he turned 18 during the course of their relationship; so in addition to the kidnapping charge, court documents show that he’s also been charged with rape and sexual exploitation of a child.
During this conversation with law enforcement, K.B.’s mother also reported that her daughter had been taken to Oregon for an abortion without parental permission. This sparked a far-reaching investigation that included accessing geolocation data to place the teenager at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Bend, and tracking her movement with Kaydn and Rachael from Idaho to Oregon. (A search warrant, for example, shows that law enforcement accessed the phones of all three, and found that they were pinging cell towers in the area of the clinic.)

God I am so grateful I was an adult by the time geolocation tracking became normal. Prayers out to minors dealing with guardians who think they need your global coordinates at all times. I would dump someone immediately for even suggesting we start sharing our locations. You'll never get me

i want to yapp that i fall from my bike and hurt my nose, chin and both knees, everything totally teared to meat, but i will take advantage of it and write you headcanons🫡🎗️
sorry i wrote it too fast so it’s not proofed at all
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you can insert your favorite wb boy here🤕
so imagine you were on your way to your favorite boy to meet him and went on bike ride date, but you accidentally fell, catching a rail from the tram tracks with your wheel at speed. the most annoying thing is that you almost reached his street and you were only a few hundred meters away from turning to his house.
a moment later, as you quickly got up and grabbed the bike, crawling off the roadway, you limped to the nearest shop and in a slight shock recorded a video showing that you were injured.
the second he opened the message from you, he immediately called you in a rage, saying that you were a little fool, and demanding that you send him your geolocation and a detailed answer about exactly what and how you hurt yourself
a couple of minutes later, your boyfriend appeared in front of you with first aid in the form of napkins and water. squatting down in front of you, he carefully treated your knees, muttering under his breath that he would no longer allow you to ride somewhere other than the park. when it came to the nose and chin, he rose to his full height while you were sitting on the bench. You looked down at him with tearful eyes and hugged him tightly in tears, thanking him for his care. Taken aback, he hugged you back, stroking your head, and you sat there for a few more minutes until he barked that actually you still need to treat the wounds on your face.
ride on his back to his place was provided for you

Bolsonaro administration spied on 1,800 opponents
Tumblr media
Feds identified more than 30,000 instances of illegal use of FirstMile, an Israeli software that tracks cellphone geolocation data. Purchased in 2018 by the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), it was used to monitor at least 1,800 opponents of the Jair Bolsonaro administration, such as politicians, journalists, and lawyers. The names of the victims were not revealed yet.
Two Abin officials have been arrested, five were temporarily removed from office, and USD 171,800 in cash was seized from the home of one of the Abin top officials on Friday.
Twenty-five search warrants were carried out in five Brazilian states. With the operation, one of the Abin buildings in Brasília was sealed while the Feds searched every room for evidence. The agents arrested were on disciplinary leave and used information gathered through FirstMile to blackmail other officials and avoid being fired.

Hello!
I was wondering if you could give us some insight into how tumblr live came to exist/how it will work? For example will we be able to out out entirely instead of just snoozing it? A lot of people are worried about their privacy being violated due to the location tracking (most of our tumblr blogs aren't exactly for our irls to see) and I'm worried this is going to cause another case of site-wide mass hysteria.
I know not all staff members work on everything so If you can't help here do you know anyone i should try asking?
hello!
check out the Staff post if you haven't already, i know it doesn't explain the "how this came to exist", but it gives a good overview of the feature. this is a big moonshot experiment for us, and it's been exciting to see a lot of positive reaction to it and people doing fun stuff with it so far. it's a lot more full-featured and enticing than our previous attempt at live streaming back in ~2016, and there are more features to come. personally i can't wait to live stream our Hack Day Rave Room natively on Tumblr, finally.
there is no way to opt out "fully", but you can choose not to use it, like other features of the site that don't have any full "opt out". also, there is no specific geolocation tracking -- your phone has to explicitly give permission for that, and we don't want it. i've always fought pretty hard NOT to get that kind of hyper-specific data, i think it's pretty creepy unless the product doesn't make sense without it (and, to me, it makes no sense for us to collect that data on tumblr today).
that said, we're not doing any more specific "location" tracking with Live than we've ever done, or any website does. for example, this website will tell you where it thinks you are, without using any specific location tracking permissions from your device. the only way to avoid that is to not use the internet at all, or use a VPN to obfuscate your true "location".
and as always, if you have strong feelings about any of this, please file a Support ticket with your feedback! (use the new Live Streaming category or the Feedback category.)

tumblr has always guessed your location based on your ip, you can see it when you go to your settings to view your active logins
Tumblr media
that's not the same as geolocation or location tracking, which uses a GPS to pinpoint your actual location

How automakers make use of data collected by connected cars is coming under scrutiny in California. On Monday, the California Privacy Protection Agency announced that it will review the data privacy practices of connected vehicle manufacturers. The agency is empowered to do so thanks to a 2018 state law, the California Consumer Privacy Act.
"Modern vehicles are effectively connected computers on wheels. They're able to collect a wealth of information via built-in apps, sensors, and cameras, which can monitor people both inside and near the vehicle," said Ashkan Soltani, CPPA's executive director.
"Our Enforcement Division is making inquiries into the connected vehicle space to understand how these companies are complying with California law when they collect and use consumers' data," he said in a statement.
Connected cars are fast becoming ubiquitous—it may well be impossible to buy a new car, truck, or SUV in 2023 that doesn't have at least one embedded modem in it. In the mid-2010s, many OEMs saw dollar signs at the prospect of monetizing data collected by their deployed vehicle fleets, and unlike with cellphones, it can be hard or impossible to disable location tracking in one's car.
"Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, geolocation is considered personal information. People have the right to say no to being tracked in their cars, but it is unclear if car companies are providing this right," said Justin Kloczko, a privacy advocate at Consumer Watchdog. "These companies know more about us than we know about ourselves, and they’re the ones in control of our personal information, not us," Kloczko said.

"In Kazakhstan, a murder occurred in the BAU restaurant in the city of Astana. According to the Astana city police, a report was received about a quarrel between visitors, as a result of which a woman died from bodily injuries. The murderer of his second wife is the former Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Kuandyk Bishimbayev.
Kuandyk Bishimbayev's cousin was at the crime scene on November 9th, and he testified. On the morning of November 9th, Kuandyk Bishimbayev called his cousin and asked him to come to the restaurant quickly.
Around 9:30 a.m., he arrived at the restaurant and saw that the light was on in the first VIP booth. I knocked, but Bishimbayev did not allow me to enter, asking me to bring a blanket. That's what he did - he went to the dressing room, took two blankets and entered the stall. There I saw Saltanat Nukenova lying motionless, she was snoring heavily.
He thought the woman was asleep. Although then I noticed traces of blood on the floor at the entrance. Bishimbayev covered the woman with two blankets brought in front of his eyes. After that, my brother closed the booth and went to his office. Around one o'clock in the afternoon, Bishimbayev called him again and told him to bring cigarettes, aspirin and ketonal. When he received his things, he ordered all the staff to be released so that no one would stay in the restaurant. The brother completed the assignment, dismissed the people and returned to the office.
At half past one in the afternoon, Bishimbayev wrote to him on WhatsApp: "Delete all surveillance videos in the gastroenterology center." My brother immediately called the administrator and gave this order to remove all video from surveillance cameras not only in the restaurant, but also in the entire gastrocenter. At 13:45 I went down to the control room to make sure that the video was deleted.
At 14:00, Bishimbayev again summoned him to his office. When he entered the cabin, he saw that Nukenova was still lying on the couch, but he did not come close. Kuandyk asked him to find his wife's iPhone. They started looking together, but they didn't find it in the restaurant. Then Bishimbayev asked to see the interior of the car (Toyota Land Cruiser), the phone was really lying there on the panel.
Upon returning, my brother heard the following request: to take this phone home to Nukenova, but on the way, be sure to stop at the Fitness Palace and stay there for 10-15 minutes, since her brother tracks the phone by geolocation. After that, Bishimbayev demanded to return. After that, Bishimbayev demanded to return quickly, and upon arrival stated that he was hungry and ordered food at 16:20. They ate together in the common room of the restaurant. At the end of the meal, Bishimbayev asked his brother to go to the booth to look at Nukenova, then he noticed that she had stopped snoring.
He said he needed to call an ambulance, but the answer was "she's asleep." It happened at 16:35, and at 16:40 Bishimbayev called him in his office again and asked him to check the woman's pulse.
In the testimony, the brother said that only after checking the pulse, he realized that Nukenova was dead, and called an ambulance from his phone. After 15 minutes, I met the doctors, Bishimbayev was next to Nukenova at that moment and was panicking, hysterical. Police officers arrived immediately after the ambulance.
The deleted video was restored, and the footage at 7:00 and so shows Bishimbayev severely beating a woman.
Experts have restored the video and claim that it was not a technical failure, as explained in the gastro center, but a deliberate deletion of the video, which is also confirmed by the testimony of Bishimbayev's brother."
this incident lasted 6 MONTHS, imagine this! I’m ashamed of my homeland, after 6 months there was a trial, he was imprisoned for only 10 years, the state has disgraced itself in front of all the people of Kazakhstan, I'm angry that I was born in a country that ranks first in the CIS for the rape of women....

May your soul sleep peacefully Saltanat...

'i talked to other guardian newsroom journalists' why are you so buddy buddy with the fascists' stenographers and why should people trust you, given said rapport?
apologies for getting to this late i do NOT know how tumblr works lmao
i do independent investigative research/reporting and fact-checking. you'll see me in articles by @nyancrimew, but i've really done more work for groups like geoconfirmed, which involves the tracking of war and the atrocities that occur during it.
one of the most significant eras of my research was geolocations and investigations relating to the hizbullah-israel conflict and the bombardments that came before and after the temporary armistice in november 2023. various groups reported on the region, and along with local journalists, i talked to foreign correspondents, including those representing both the US and UK's guardian. they simply had information that could not be ignored.
i'm trans and extremely outspoken about trans issues, including in the UK (where a good amount of friends are from). i'm deeply critical of the graun and of rustin, the author referenced in my post. i believe they are have horrible opinion and feature pieces alike, especially on queer issues. and i think that if the people i talked to checked my twitter and found neos in bio, they'd be horrified (lmao)
so no: i'm not buddy-buddy with guardian journalists. i simply have communication channels from previous work. i'm not affiliated with the publication, nor supportive of them in the slightest. i just think they have no reason to lie about an article they wouldn't be ashamed of (for the terf publication they are), in clear violation of both their code of ethics and general journalistic ethics as a whole.
hope this clears things up!!

since 988 goes live tomorrow I just want to be as loud and clear as possible that the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline requires all affiliates to use geolocation tracking and to deploy crisis services including police if they believe a caller is at “imminent risk” - a determination which is partially algorithmic - without the caller’s consent or knowledge
confidential hotlines which don’t use location services include Samaritans NYC, Call Blackline, and Trans Lifeline
