Aderyn - 'Chip Shop Boy' (Official Video)
'Do you want Salt n Vinegar on them?' Cardiff Indie Grunge Pop Artist 'Aderyn' returns with fantastic new single 'Chip Shop Boy' which is available now everywhere! With hooky riffs and euphoric chord changes 'Chip Shop Boy' will make all your Chippy Dreams come true, and is certainly 'Aderyn's' strongest single to date. Love it!
Aderyn says “Chip Shop Boy is a song about the rush of first having a crush on someone, and how those daydreams can make the mundane feel magical.” Chip Shop Boy is available on all streaming sites and bandcamp, and will be released on CD and cassette as part of Aderyn’s debut EP Sea Glass on 14th September.
Chip Shop Boy was written about Aderyn's infatuation with the boy who worked at the local chip shop during Covid lockdown. Aderyn says: “The chippy was the only place open in lockdown, and my imagination ran wild with blissful visions of our future together. It turned into this really fun song thats always a big crowd pleaser on tour.” Chip Shop Boy is an irreverent and irresistibly fun indie pop song with moments of Pavement inspired guitars, and more hooks than a fisherman. Aderyn also played all the drums on the track, which was recorded in West Wales with producer Gethin Pearson (Orla Gartland, Charli XCX, Adwaith).
Aderyn will play Gwen Gwen Festival this summer. Chip Shop Boy is the second single from Aderyn's debut EP Sea Glass, out 14 September
Cardiff’s “Queen of Indie Pop” (Radar Mag), Aderyn grew tired of life on a Welsh sheep farm and left home at 16 to be a drummer in a grunge band. Now striking out on her own in her first solo project, Aderyn’s music weaves together irreverent hook laden pop, with a scuzzier grunge influenced sound. Aderyn won the Welsh Music Prize Triskel Award in 2022.

Orla Gartland shares honest and introspective new song ‘Why Am I Like This?’
Dublin-born, London-based singer-songwriter Orla Gartland returns with a new single ‘Why Am I Like This?’. With a songwriting skill, perception and maturity that belies her young years, Gartland has created an existential pop track for her generation. ‘Why Am I Like This?’ articulates what many suffer but simply can’t put into words – feelings of social anxiety, self-doubt and the strain of that constant negative voice in one’s own head.
With comparisons already made to the confessionary and cathartic pop of Stevie Nicks, Gartland has a reputation for being brutally honest and always personal in her writing, with ‘Why Am I Like This?’ being her most vulnerable and inward-facing song to date. She expands: “’Why Am I Like This?’ started with me reflecting on a couple situations, filled with regret and forever fixated what I could have done, what I could have said. As the chorus hits we cycle around the same question again and again, as if stuck in a loop - WHY AM I LIKE THIS?”.
‘Why Am I Like This?’ is a soul-searching pop ballad coloured with a pop, with Gartland taking inspiration from the multi-layered, characterful indie sounds of artists such as Regina Spektor and St. Vincent. ‘Why Am I Like This?’ was produced and mixed by Gethin Pearson and mastered by Robin Schmidt and features backing vocals recorded and submitted by Gartland’s biggest fans.

Launchpad announce the thirty three Welsh artists and three record labels to receive grant funding for 2021
Launchpad announce the thirty three Welsh artists and three record labels to receive grant funding for 2021. The fund is part of Horizons – a partnership between BBC Cymru Wales and Arts Council of Wales investing in and platforming original music talent.
This is Launchpad’s most diverse list of awards yet with fourteen female artists and sixteen black musicians and artists of colour from a range of genres receiving funding to aid their music and creative work, spotlighting the exciting growth of MOBO (music of black origin) throughout Wales.
In what has been a really tough year for the  music sector amidst lockdowns and a global pandemic, Launchpad sees forty thousand pounds in total awarded to a diverse mix of musicians as they take the next steps in their career. Additionally Horizons will be offering the awardees aritist-centred music business training. Also for the first time ever Welsh labels High Grade Grooves(Caernarfon), Recordiau Jingcal(Cardiff), Something Out of Nothing Records(Cardiff) will receive funding, as Launchpad looks to deepen its support of the grassroots imprints that foster and platform talent.
Since its inception in 2014, the Launchpad fund has been awarded to over 200 artists, from over 60 towns across the whole of Wales, investing £210,000 in the Welsh music ecosystem.
Many have been supported in their creative work with the fund enabling them to utilise studio time, specially commissioned photography and artwork, promotion of releases, equipment, video production and touring costs. For the thirty three artists awarded funding this year this is their first step on their Horizons journey, that could in the future include artist development, promotion and showcases sets at major festivals.
The applications were selected by a panel made up of twenty five members - including Super Furry Animals’ Cian Ciarian, Producers Gethin Pearson, Kris Jenkins, band manager Ryan Richards, singer Casi, and BBC Radio Cymru host Rhys Mwyn and many more bloggers, performers, managers and others from the UK music industry.
Panelist Tumi Williams (Afrocluster and Bombard Agency) says:
"Great to see a wide, varied pool of artists apply for launchpad this year. The sheer quality of music, across various genres is incredibly promising for the Welsh music scene. I was honoured to be part of such a rigorous selection process that ensured equality, diversity and support towards Wales' most deserving artists."
Female fronted rock band Mawpit say:
“We are so thrilled to be selected for the funding! We’ve been planning on recording an EP for a few months now and thanks to Horizons this is going to be possible. We can now afford to record our music in a studio and pay for engineers / producers. We've had a brilliant start in 2020 and gained a lot of support since our first single was released so we are very excited to keep that momentum going with new music.”
Horizons will be announcing the awardees with a week-long multi-platform virtual festival highlighting the new talent, from home sessions, to online discussions. We’ll be meeting the artists across the week from Dec 7, culminating on Dec 11. You can follow all the activity @horizonscymru on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
